Love it. One of my mainstays.. Use it all the time. UI could use some tweaking and I’d like to see a wider selection of default newscasts, but can’t complain about a well done app that costs nothing.

Very Handy. While it has occasionally experienced some glitches, the developer has done a good job to update and maintain the app. I don't need custom sources, but will probably buy the feature just to support the developer.

Wonderful will pay regularly for feaatures. This is a wonderful app. That. Makes my mornings a lot bettor! It would be great if I could have it start automatically at a certain time and support for feeds that require authentication soo I can get everything I need all at. Once. For both features I would be happy to subscribe to pay for the app continually.

Hourly news. A great way to get key news bytes as I start my day. I especially like getting news stories from a variety of sources.

This app is so old .... Its instructions are in Latin. Not really, but they might as well be. Barely functional, this app has not been updated in four years. Content fails to load, or stale content loads on most channels. It is free, so its limited functionality doesn't cheat you out of a purchase, but the frustration factor of this fossilized app may be more than you care to deal with.

Part of My Morning Routine for 8 years!. I’ve been using this app almost every day since 2012 to get caught up on the news from all parts of the political spectrum and continents. The included news reports are great in their variety, and the ability to add additional radio news feeds makes it possible to listen to news from around the world like 🇺🇦, 🇭🇰, 🇿🇦 and 🇳🇿. App is easy to use, though can be a little finicky. For anyone that has the issue of the app starting to play in the background, it is because it just received a new hourly update. Force close the app to avoid it. Otherwise, I love this app and am so happy the developer continues to support this invaluable and unique app! Thank you!

A really annoying bug spontaneously starts playing the news at all hours of the day…. This has long been one of my favorite apps, but recently there is a bug that allows the app to spontaneously start playing. This is super annoying when I am in a client meeting and suddenly the news starts playing on my phone.. Please please please fix this bug. Thank you.

Excellent news app. I depend on this app daily to keep informed about the latest breaking news. It's an excellent app to start your day off and receive a quick glimpse of the world.

What is wrong with hourly news app. About a month ago my hourly news app started shutting down. Then it said I needed to pay 99 cents in order to continue. Still cannot make it work.

Annoying commercials. Now, the app will not play Fox News at all. e. I’m OK with a few commercials every once in a while but the ads from “indeed “and “trip recruiter “have turned me away from this app. Those type of repetitive and high-pressure sales advertisement have a tendency to lower the professionalism of great news apps like this one.

Randomly starts. I totally enjoy this app; makes it very easy to get updated information. HOWEVER, it goes off randomly while my phone is no active and/or in my purse. Basically I’m in church, in a meeting, in places where I am NOT at all on the phone or connected to it and it starts playing. Any ideas how to stop this from happening?

Ok could be better. I flip back and forth with other audio apps. Needs to remember where I was at when I left and then come back to this app. Also the slider is not very usable, hard to grab the dot, can’t see where the time is. But good selection of news podcasts and good audio.

Handy News Digest.. A convenient way to start the day with your preference of news sources. My only criticism: Updates slow in coming. My version started slipping from one podcast to another, before each was complete(while my Iphone warned that the app version needed to be updated). Eventually, the app must have been updated, because it stopped skipping through the podcasts.

GREAT RADIO NEWS APP ‼️. This app allows you to hear what almost every radio station use to broadcast, usually at the top of the hour. Not any more! Broadcast radio is pathetic now. So glad to have this app👍

Longest used app in a decade. This is the longest and most frequently used app of mind over the last decade. Thank you for creating this. It has opened my world significantly and made me intelligent about most news. One of the stories I listened to helped me make the decision to go to Switzerland and get on the train that goes through the alps in the winter. Beautiful sights. To die for. This app helped me know about something I may never have come across.

Crashes every single time. The app crashes every single time on iOS 11 with an iPhone X. It also hasn’t been optimized but the crashing has been happening for months. Update: I contacted the developer, who was very responsive. The issue is a bug relating to a popover about custom sources, he says, and I expect a fix will be out soon. I’ve changed my review to 5 stars from 2.

Great app - stopped working suddenly. I love this app. I used it for many years. Rather than dealing with multiple sources, one click gave me a simple way to listen to several news providers. Simple, elegant and so time-effective. As of this week, the app stopped working. Please fix it. This app deserves a 5-star rating and i will update my review as soon as the app works again. Please don’t let this wonderful app die. Thanks

Hands Free Listening to Multiple Newscasts. Great to use when doing lengthy tasks around the house. One newscast folds into another, with cast order rearrangeable. The app does need a way of replaying the last 10 seconds and a way of moving the newscast ahead by dragging the playhead. Also the list of radio sources is skimpy. A much larger list should be available with the paid custom source option.

CBS News not loud enough. For some reason, for the past few months, CBS News plays at a much LOWER volume than all the other newscasts. Any idea why? It used to not be that way.

This and the weather app are the only apps I use everyday. It’s been over 10 years since I found this app and began using it. I don’t have a single complaint. I use it every morning while I shower. I recommend it highly. More than worth the single dollar.

Turns on without activation. Used this app for many years. When the feeds are updated in the background it sometimes triggers the news to start automatically. Very big bug if you’re in a professional setting and your devices start blaring hourly news updates.

Big Fan. This app is so customizable and comes with a good collection of news sources to draw news report audio from. And if you have a specific source you would like to add to your collection, you can! Albeit, for a buck but hey, it stays with the app once and for all! Thank you people who made this, you help me keep up to date with global matters and local matters in a fantastic format! I only review apps that I find nearly indispensable, this is one of them.

Needs more sources. The app works well and is mostly intuitive (minus locating how to access sources and preferences for the first time). What it’s really lacking is more sources. Much more sources!! There are so many broadcasts out there and you can’t add your own. You’re limited to what the app has listed which is actually a really weird mix of broadcasts.

Best News App Ever!!!. This news app is exactly what I want! Just real news US and global news with very little advertising and without garbage “news”. You can pick your news sources or add your own and play them back to back. They are recorded, so you can skip segments. It’s perfectly designed. Kudos. ❤️

Crashes with custom feeds. I have been using this app for almost 2 years now. Works great with default feeds. I have added 2 custom feeds 1. Numbers by Barrons 2. Readback by Barrons Strangely, playing through all the feeds, as soon as it reaches the custom feed, it crashes. If I go manually directly to the custom feed, it works fine for that feed. I think the developer needs to fix these bugs. Wish it would work flawlessly. It is still my go to app every morning when commuting.

Have had this app for years!. My only wish is that developers would stay on top of updates for compatibility. For the last several months I've had issues with delays and playing the sources, and received messages saying the app was having compatibility problems. I'm hoping that's resolved for now. Thanks for a great app otherwise!

Worthless. This thing is so buggy it won’t even play. Used to play fine but it’s worthless now. I have kept expecting it would get fixed, but no. It just gets worse and worse. It’s a waste of a dollar.

News. Wonderful app with a goodly number of news feeds available. I don't believe there's anything else quite like it in the App Store. Latest update (1.7.3) further improves the opening speed of the news selections. Unfortunately, more commercials on some of the feeds have lessened an otherwise positive experience.

Used to be great.... I've use this app daily for years. Seeing how I now the nuances of this app, I'm posting a review in hopes they get their act together and bring us an update. BUG: scroll button on timeline is terrible. One pixel width of grabbing room. You’ll see.... ANOTHER BUG: Starts all the podcast over from the beginning even if the podcast doesn’t have a new show

Great and easy. Love this—no bells or whistles just audio. Works like a charm and keeps me up to date with news (whether I like it or not). Buy it, you won’t be disappointed.

Great App!. I check out the news mid-morning and mid-afternoon. The variety of sources for the news updates gives me a better understanding of world news than my local TV newscast.

Please fix ghost starting. Have been using the app for many years using most up to date version on my iPhone 15. The app begins to play frequently on its own even if it is not opened on my phone. My only recourse is to keep phone volume off so it doesn’t start playing in places I would not want my phone to make sound. Ty

All the news in one place. Everything I need to know when I need to know it from multiple sources.

By far my most used app. If you follow, the markets are your end of world news, this is totally worth the price. Multiple news outlets and it updates automatically to the most recent news summary that they each put out throughout the day. And the Wall Street Journal Minute updates three times a day. Love the app.

NPR hourly news. Fantastic. Listen to all 5 stations every day during exercise, driving, etc.

Crappy ads. I love getting the news this way — until it goes over to CBS News. Two-thirds of the way through, several extremely irritating ads start blaring away. They’re always the same ads! Ads don’t belong on this app! That said, I’m told that CBS has itself added the ads. But I have been given no instructions on how to contact CBS News!

Hourly news.. A must in my morning walk. I love it. I can hear different news outlets and get different points of view. All in one app.

Great! Could improve. I LOVE the I formation that Hourly News provides in such a convenient, succinct manner. However, I believe captions are necessary. My best friend is def and cannot use this app. Also, many people o show the app have had trouble enjoying it because "they speak too fast."

Love this App! But it stopped working. Hourly news is probably the only app I use everyday. For some reason it has stopped working on my iPhone. I wish I could solve the problem!

Useful app, but: ‘updates’ that disable existing features, & spontaneous playback at awkward times.. A recent update to the app introduced a change that may disappoint longtime users. A key feature — adding custom news sources — now costs $1 per custom source you want to add. This feature had been free until the update. Also, the app sometimes starts playing spontaneously in the background, e.g., during an important meeting or while you’re asleep. To prevent this, force-quit the app when you’re done using it.

Great App. I like this app as it's easy to use and plays my favorite new shows consecutively. I would definitely recommend this App to others who enjoy listening to the news.

My go-to hourly news app!. I've enjoyed for several years now having a convenient way to audibly scan a cross-section of breaking news. Helps me avoid the single-world-view trap. I'm so glad they've updated it to keep it current with Apple's iOS changes.

Needs work. This is a very simple yet efficient audio news app. The problem is it cuts out when Google Maps gives audio directions. You have to go back into the app and push play again in order for the news to continue.

Impressive must have. If you want to be in the know from many sources which are spread across the political spectrum, this app is it.

Unbiased , no advertisement and international. TRUELY there is no free news media in the USA ; all are owned by special interest groups besides you can sit many hours (( many hours )) to get any worthwhile information , black out from important local and international news but Hugh amount of advertisement , no wander we know so little about the world

Works again 🙃. The app stopped working three days ago and I posted about it… working again within two days. 👍🏻 I lost sources I had added myself even though I backed it up to iCloud; also when I added the app to my MacBook Pro prior to that, it did not sync the sources I added on my iPhone. But glad it’s working again nonetheless.

Clumsy at best. This app lacks so many controls you’d want. No 15 second rewind or forward. It doesn’t remember which source you’re streaming from. So when you open the app it automatically goes back to the very first streaming source. Something designed by apple should have great functionality. It’s like a monkey jerking off with boxing gloves on.

My go-to news app. At the gym in the mornings it just plays through all my favorite stations and I get the news I need with no fuss. I can add podcasts easily and this app makes it very easy for you to access the news you need. Simple and intuitive. I would add another star if the interface were somewhat slicker and not just black with a play button.

Simply Perfect. I use this app every day. It is perfectly simple and simply perfect. Synchronizing the settings via iCloud worked perfectly when I recently got a new iOS device. I have the OSX version too and use both regularly.

A constant companion. I enjoy the news. Moreover, I enjoy receiving copy from a broad base of countries. This application is a constant companion and performs as advertised. However, I would enjoy more feeds, from different sources and in different languages. The English only policy is too parochial. In principle, I have awarded four stars to allow room for improvement.

my favourite app. I listen every morning to get my news and the different versions from different news sources. The only beef I have is the ads that some of the news (fox I think) channels sneak in.

Perfect! I Love This App. I downloaded this app a couple of years ago and I still love it. It’s the perfect way to be fully informed but avoid the 24 hour cable news hyperbole and speculation machine. Respected journalists from all of the major news sources delivering the news in a neutral way, without all of the yelling, updated every hour. You really can be fully informed and keep your sanity.

Stopped working!!!. Crashes now on iOS. This is a wonderful 5 star app when it was working. Hope it gets fixed soon.

If a developer stops maintaining an app .... ... then kick the app off the store. Or force it to go free. Anyway, I've been using this for a few years and it's crap at syncing over iCloud and when I'm on cell it frequently bails and switches to the next feed even when the coverage is near perfect.

Good App. A simple concept but nicely executed. Even if it has just one news feed, I'd still think it's a nice app to have on both my phone and laptop. But if it can, at some point, include feed from local news (local NPR station or up in Canada, local CBC) that would make this app perfect.

It works, and provides good variety. Not just uk and American, Canada is here to via cbc. New streams seem to be coming online, although they don't always work right away. Good update app.

Indispensable for news addicts. Does one thing. Does it well. Open the app, listen to the latest news. That easy. Set your favourite newscasts to play in order of preference. Advance through them or to the next news provider with one swipe of your finger. It would be cool if the app could also allow access to longer news podcasts summarising the whole day's news, rather than just the hourly update.

Everyday app. The first app of my day, everyday! Works great 99.9% of the time.

Crash. New version crashes upon start! This is on iOS 6.1.3

iPadOS version crashes. My iPad is running iOS 18.3. When opening the iPad - iPhone version it crashes. I deleted it then downloaded the iPhone only version under the app stores filter, which will run on iPad. This version still works. Hasn’t had an update in 7 years. I gave it 2 stars because I still really like being able to hear news summaries from a bunch of different sources all in one spot.

Great app that can be hampered by connection issues. This app is pretty sound. I use it exclusively in my car which has created some unpleasantries that are not a fault of the app. I like how the app flows from one new source to another. Connection issues are usually a result of poor cell reception, but I have had network issues as well. Note: If you are inclined to listen to the app as you drive to work from home, for example, I found that waiting until I am out of range of my home wifi helps. There seems to be a hang-up when I start on my wifi and then transition to cell coverage. I like the additional streams and the ability to listen to custom podcasts.

Changed - not for the good.... I used to be able to hit play close my phone and put it my pocket, and now if I do that all audio shuts off so I have to literally leave my phone open and on for audio to happen. This is disappointing and unsafe for the security of my phone. This needs to be changed back.

Great app for catching the daily news. All major networks present.

Output Volume unstable. I listen to multiple feeds with this app and no two sources have the same output volume level. Frustrating … otherwise this app is very helpful to me.

Absolutely Esstential. Absolutely essential news update for me every morning and at bedtime. I follow it every day.

Very Nice despite some downfalls. I use this app while driving to and from work, it is better than anything so far. 3 things though, FIRST: occasionally and during rainy cloudy weather, some channels won't play. SECOND: the WSJ news doesn't work or starts them stops abruptly after less than 30 sec THIRD : the ESPN channel has the lowest voice volume among all channels that I need to turn the volume up then after this channel is the SRN which has the highest voice among all that start with a very harsh loud Ringo Star type drums combined with Beethoven's symphony 5 opening sound that is so annoying that the radio volume needs to be lowered to an extended degree..Imagine you hear that on your car stereo while driving in a busy highway! Not safe if you are expecting to enjoy to a radio.. Despite that I gave 4 stars because I still truly enjoy the app and its my main source of news

Broken.. I’m afraid the app has been broken as of IOS 17. It starts, then crashes. It was great while it worked.

DW NEWS crashed app. DW news crashes app starting January 16, 2024. Have to uninstall and reinstall and leave DW unselected. App flashes something about a problem with the source but immediately crashes.

Possessed! Be very careful!. Hasn’t been updated in over a year. This app will suddenly launch itself and start playing at the worst possible moments. I’ve tried deleting & reinstalling but no luck. It’s downright creepy.

Was good. Now it has adds.. This app used to be good because it didn't have adds between news stations. I purchased the app for the sole reason that it didn't have Adds. Way to ruin a good app.

Plays all by itself.. Over the last couple of weeks. I’ve been awoken by this app at 3 am. It just starts playing on its own.

Simple, Efficient, Reliable & Useful. It's rare that I rate anything higher than 4 stars as there's always room to improve. This is a great app! Excellent brief audio summaries from a handful of reliable news sources. The best part in my opinion is that it simply reports the news - free of pundit commentary, slanted opinions and overly biased presentation of facts. Just the news; no more no less. I find myself increasingly more irritated with (and tired of) ratings based cable news shows so this app serves as a great tool when I just want the news without all the noise. As for improvements/suggestions, I can only think of two things: 1) Would be great to see more news sources. Al Jazeera (English) comes mind as an internationally credible news source that would make a nice addition. 2) Far less important and maybe not worth the effort as far as cost/benefit goes...but it would be cool to have something to look at within the app when listening to the broadcasts. Like a slideshow of interesting/telling pictures of the days news. Still, however few, I'm just glad to know there's still a handful of legitimate news broadcasts that still have some resemblance of integrity in broadcast journalism. At $0.99, I'd say it's definitely worth downloading!
