MSN Comments & Reviews 2026

Extremely disappointed. I am so, so upset about this radical redesign that MSN just did. I have three or four news apps that I check in with a few times a week, but this was the app that I would spend time on nearly twice a day. I loved its simplistic, clear-cut layout. This layout made it stand out from all other news apps. Now it’s ruined because of Microsoft who only took over because its its greedy, never-satisfied, and has a constant Need to monopolize wherever it can. I’m so saddened by this. I did not realize that my innocently pressing “update” would cause this to happen. I’m going to try to give it a chance, but something tells me I’ll be forced to delete it in a week. I can’t believe that Microsoft took over and ruined what used to be one of my favorite apps.

Save for Later feature missing for News articles.. I want to enjoy this app so much, but it’s becoming impossible for me to use because the “save for later“ feature seems to be missing on the iOS app. I have searched online for a way to fix this, but have not found anything except old articles related to the topic. This is very important for me because many times I find news articles that I want to read, but don’t have the time to read them on the spot. I want to be able to save them for later so I can read them when I have time. Even if the feature is available, it’s obviously not user-friendly, and I don’t see any instructions about how to make it work. I am completely surprised by Microsoft, as I had expected them to have high-quality services similar to those of Google and Apple. You would think they would have a way to save articles just like their competitors do in an easy fashion. It appears that this is not the case.

Bum wrap. Trying to transition from the index to the story does not live up to its promise. Instead, it draws away into touting other things the app can do whilst not reverting to the story. I am not impressed, nor will I continue down the rabbit hole in order to see what the story line is. I am disappointed that it takes forever to find the information I want to read. I want the story without the fluff. Don’t waste my time with things that don’t concern me, I want the continuance of the story I am interested in now rather than features I care less about. Vote me out.

Buggy. Like many I downloaded it for the cash back feature. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It rejects some receipts for very odd reasons. I’ve had receipts rejected because the app claimed it was a duplicate receipt even though I scanned it immediately after walking in my house after making the purchase. I had a new reason today. The receipt was rejected because they only accept paper receipts. It was a paper receipt from the same grocery store I’ve scanned receipts from many times. Sure it’s only a penny but those pennies add up especially if you’re Microsoft and thousands of people are having receipts rejected that shouldn’t be.

Not impressed. First of all, being forced to use this after reading news on msn all these years is a bit annoying. On top of that, msn says “to continue reading this article open the app” and when you do, it doesn’t actually open the article you wanted to read or even give that as a possibility. You have to cut and paste the msn headline to search for it in start. Additionally, it doesn’t seem to refresh the top news, etc. when I open it - the same exact news is there for days. And, when it does refresh, because it wants to “feed” you, the algorithm starts to give you things that are all the same. If I read a story from a source, I don’t want to have that source become the main one I am offered- assuming I can’t handle opposing viewpoints… Maybe I am doing something wrong. I am not completely tech challenged, but maybe… Anyway, just an annoying app overall….

New version is awful. Really do not want to see like or dislike options. Not interested in opinions. News is news and is meant to inform. It seems as if you added this feature as a point of entertainment for people. I think that’s sad and essentially adds fuel to the fire in regards to some stories since the opinions written are not informed at all. And many will view some opinions as fact. I think that sets dangerous precedent as we all have come to see over the last couple of years. There better formats for expressing opinions. As far as the layout goes I really preferred it the way it was. Should now be called MSN Entertainment. I will seek out other sources of news.

This is great. I use a lot of apps for news and information and this is by far the best one stop source that I check all the time. It really covers everything that I wanna know. And I love the fact that it gives you the coins to be able to use in different AI apps and doesn’t cost anything. Microsoft did a really good job on designing this. It’s easy to use. And when you customize it for the information that you want it streamlines when you wake up in the morning to give you the relevant information you need to know to start your day. Thanks guys keep up the great work.

I really like them now!. I watched the first 3 episodes last night and realized for the first time what a horrible disservice they’ve been given. I believe their story Is the truth. They are obviously very much in love. And next to nothing about Megan’s outstanding work in standing up for the rights of others, her solo work in Africa, her high intelligence and caring nature have been written about. She is constantly referred to in derogatory terms. So wrong! And Harry is obviously an intelligent, caring and sensitive man who also happens to be quite handsome. I loved the pics of their sweet family. And applaud their bravery in leaving the firm in order to save their own family. While watching I couldn’t help but wonder if William and Kate wish it were themselves. Really looking forward to the next three episodes. Also, my husband who never follows the royals watched the 3 episodes straight in a row with me and agreed with my thoughts.

Outstanding Experience with Microsoft Start!. I recently downloaded Microsoft Start and I’m thoroughly impressed! This app has significantly enhanced my daily digital experience. Its intuitive design and user-friendly interface make navigation a breeze, allowing me to access news, weather, and more with ease. What sets Microsoft Start apart is its personalized news feed. The AI-driven content curation is spot-on, keeping me updated with news that aligns perfectly with my interests and preferences. Whether it’s technology, sports, or entertainment, I’m always in the loop with relevant and engaging stories. The integration with Microsoft services is another huge plus. It seamlessly connects with my Office 365 and Outlook accounts, making it a central hub for my day-to-day activities. This feature alone has boosted my productivity. The weather updates are accurate and detailed, providing all the information I need to plan my day. The search functionality is also exceptional, delivering fast and relevant results every time. I appreciate the app’s commitment to privacy and data security. It’s reassuring to know that my information is in safe hands. Microsoft Start has exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s a must-have app for anyone looking to streamline their digital life. Highly recommended!

Great App. I love this app. Well designed with reactions and comments. I think they could take this even farther with tags that are like reactions, but more informative. They could use tags to select content better. The articles are good and a mix, seems to have much less bias than other news apps. Also, the app has good performance. I'm curious what they do with this next. I feel that there's somethings missing still with the design to make it optimal. But it's the best news app that I've used so far and I experiment with a lot of news apps.

Awful. I’ll start this review with a caveat: Maybe, because of the ongoing feud between MS & Apple it just doesn’t work too well with iOS. That being said: Things just don’t work. You get a response to a comment and you can’t link back to it to respond. You get responses and you get no clue as to what the response is in reference to. The app doesn’t even tell you what comment is being responded to. It is just an awful, maybe typical Microsoft mess. I’m about to delete the app and forget all about it. It’s probably a perfect example of the many reasons why I prefer Apple anything over Microsoft anything. They just can’t get their act together over @ MS. Just deleted the app. Censorship crossed the threshold of the ridiculous. It’s their app, they can allow and disallow anything they please. But the political bias has become overwhelming.

Doesn’t refresh. I mainly use it for news as I don’t like Google news trying to view everything in its own browser. This one will take me to the actual site when I click on anything on the news article. However, it never refreshes on the “For You” tab. I click on refresh but it still won’t. I have to click on a different tab, and come back to “For You” tab to refresh. Other tabs are a hit or miss for refreshing. Sometimes they do and sometimes I have to do the same thing for them too. So basically, I am back to using Google News again.

This app is broken. This app has changed dramatically since i first downloaded it and now they dont even care what type of news you are looking at. For instance, under the sports headlines today I saw a headline titled, "LA reaches settlement over alleged at-home Covid 19 test kits".. not too sure what that had to do with sports, that is not the only example of this, there was also "Depressed demand forcing Wisconsin dairy farmers to dump milk", again nothing to do with sports. Additionally, whoever developed this app thought it would be a great idea to have NO end to the headlines under each section, so if you think you are going to get the bottom of page it just keeps loading more headlines whether they are relevant or not. This app has gone down the tubes, its absolute trash now.

Impossible to Comment. It’s nearly impossible to comment on any article. When I am already signed in, it FREQUENTLY won’t let me comment and says I have to sign in. I click “sign in” select my name again and it still just says I have to sign in. I’ve even created a second account to switch back and forth to work around that, and that worked for a while, but as of this morning that no longer works. Then the button to post a comment just disappears frequently. On mobile, if your keyboard pops up, it covers the area you are typing into. On top of that, if you do sign in and get past the many glitches, the comments are so censored, it’s practically a useless feature to be able to comment at all. You can’t use the word “you” so people try to find work around a like “ewe” but it will still hide any comment “for review” that has that word. Even if you’re using it in a general sense as I am doing here. If there is even 1 word in all caps, even if that’s the name of a company, it will be hidden “for review”. There’s also a bunch of other rules which are unknown or seem arbitrarily applied by some horribly programmed parameters so most comments submitted are never shown. And mobile never tells you if you have any replies to your comments (I’d like to be able to turn this on or off).

Being force fed an app that doesn’t work. My gripe is less the app itself, and the integration, or failure there in, of the MSN website when opened in iPhone Safari. I’ve been accessing MSN for 6-7 years for news. About a year ago I started getting prompts to either continue reading in webpage, or open in the MS Start app. A nuisance, but still an option. Lately however, the option to read in-browser hasn’t worked. Instead, I’m forced to “Read in the app”. Only problem is that the link rarely works, and in the failed process it opens an iTunes app loader page, a redirect tab, a Start App launch…without the desired story…and poor search qualities to find the story that took me down this rabbit hole in the first place. Epic fail; loads of frustration; numerous tabs and/or windows to now close or navigate; complete loss of interest in the original story and little motivation to want to use MSN or MS Start in the future. Nice going folks; you had a loyal cu, who actually occasionally made choices from the advertising, who’s now looking to Yahoo or anything other than Bing/MSN/MS Start for their news 🤨. Friggin Reddit is better for than this nonsense.

Has issues. I read this every day but...it has issues. Sometimes you click on a story only for another story - the wrong story to appear. They will talk about a video but won’t include the link for it - which is rather annoying. If you click on the picture for the story it will sometimes include other random pictures. The “Good news” isn’t updated often enough - really? It’s that hard to find good things to report? And sometimes the “good news” is depressing. It’s just ok but better than most of the other stuff.

A PENNY ONLY. This app is so ridiculous and the customer support is even worse. I had contacted customer support after 10 receipts that were scan for cash back we’re talking about purchases I made being way above $50 and I only receive a penny back. I am now on my 40th+ receipt and the most I have received back has been three. Cents, if you’re only giving me a penny it’s gonna take me 100 receipts to receive a dollar I’m not gonna buy 100 items from dollar tree to receive one dollar back. I get more back on my credit card than this if you guys are not willing to give anything more than three. Cents, even after I hit the six receipt reward mark. Then what’s the point of even having the program you’re tell me, Microsoft doesn’t have money to give back. I’d rather just stick with chrome, then to do with this crap.

MSN just is difficult now to use.. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Start numerous times. It never remembers my login credentials and if I try to open it from the website it always asks to download the app which was already installed. Sorry I’m not always sitting in the Start app when pursuing web news outlets. Then when I tap open since it is installed it never goes to the story I was trying to expand on. Now it is uninstalled and MSN is coming of my list of sites to review for news. Their own fault. I fear the AP will head that way, as they are trying to push their app down our throats more and more too.

Wonderful looking fwd to continual improvements. I was initially going to get four stars just because there’s still a lot of obvious improvements but I decided to get five because I really love that they are giving us access to the latest GPT model for free and I can tell that their pushing to make as much available to the public as possible which I think is great. This is stimulating our growth in so many ways because it allows us to use our creativity and brains to explore even if we don’t have the physical or technical skill in the given area, we can still contribute to growth in our literature, and you name it!

App just keeps getting worse. Update: apparently the developers don't read the reviews. This thing has gotten worse. Open the app, swipe through two or three articles and CRASH! C'mon, folks! Do better! My complaint before was that each time the app loses focus and then is brought back to the foreground, it resets itself. This means that you have to scroll through all of the stories to find where you were; assuming you remember. Now, when I try to share something via Twitter or Facebook (on my iPad Air), the pop up window loses focus while I'm typing and I have to start over again. Definitely going to look for a replacement now. The app owners apparently don't care and definitely don't test their product.

Terrible app. This app is terrible. When you are on the msn website and click the “continue reading on the app” button, does it take you to the article you want to read? NO OF COURSE NOT. Just the generic MSN home page and then you have to go back to the internet, find the title and paste it into the app. Additionally, every time, and I do mean EVERY SINGLE TIME, that I have clicked on the “continue reading on the app” button, the app needs to UPDATE!!! It isn’t user friendly either. Strongly recommend using something else. Or maybe the programmers could redo the whole thing? Heck, what is one more update anyway??? If I could give this negative stars I totally would 😤

Wonderful Way to Start and End My Day!. I grew up in the era of the daily newspaper, where each day’s delivery brought so much more than the news, but comics, coupons, sales, games, and more. Microsoft Start has essentially filled that place in my life. I love having an overview of world, national, state, and local news each morning as well as a good measure of personalized topics of interest to counter some of the heaviness I sometimes read. I’ve also been using Bing Rewards for years, so having this and general shopping features baked in has been really helpful to keep me on track. There’s so much more that I could write, but suffice to say that I am very happy with Microsoft Start and how it has continually evolved to bring ever greater value to my day.

I’d rather read in my news app. I downloaded this because I couldn’t finish an article I was reading in Apple News; the only choice was “continue reading in the app.” Once in the app, the header and footer never go away, significantly decreasing the readable screen area, and distracting me with a search bar on the top, and a collection of buttons on the bottom, none of which I need. Most modern apps hide these things until you change your scrolling direction, and then show them to you momentarily to see if you need them. If you don’t, when you resume reading, they disappear again. I’m not sure what the purpose of sending me to this app is rather than serving me the entire article in the place I’m already reading it, unless it’s for Microsoft to track me. That might serve Microsoft, it doesn’t serve me. The only time I’ll use this app as if I need it to finish an article.

Microsoft search engine has gone soft. It works like any other search engine. But they have a future that you can’t disable or turn off as a user, it’s the AI search I wish this can be turned off, but it will never be turned off. It’s a feature that they have for the app it’s unable to be disabled. Even they have Microsoft rewards program last year was the best they had so many points that you can earn on Xbox and through the Microsoft edge now they’re lowering their points system either they’re losing money or too many peoples getting too many free gift cards. I don’t know what it is yes take a grain of salt. It is a free rewards program but now every time you earn a point it went from five points to one or two points. no more earning those 10s and 20s or higher points. Everything used to be dead on target, but now that the end of the year is at a end is becoming unstable points or not adding up points in isn’t registering. I’m only in it for the last points I need & uninstalling.

They ruined it. Use the Web App if you liked it better before.. The major redesign that just occurred that added a bunch of unnecessary stuff like a Bing search bar that Microsoft would like us to use made me search out a replacement. My recommendation is to go to the MSN website, navigate to the “News Headlines” page (which is what the old version of this app basically was) click the share button and then select “Add Website to Home Screen”. It turns out that it doesn’t merely add a bookmark icon to your screen that then pops up in Safari. MSN and some other websites (including APnews) when added to the homescreen like this actually become a HTML Web App. It’s still The Safari engine running it but it opens in its own window and has a custom full screen app like interface. It’s not quite as nice to use as the old app but it’s usable and doesn’t include all the nonsense that was added to the new version. Also less ads. The icon looks perfect right it the spot where the app icon was so you don’t even have to rearrange your Home Screen.

Biased. First let me say I am a huge fan of Microsoft’s products and although I deleted this app I continue to use many of their products and services. I was excited to try the start app when I first discovered it. But that excitement did not last long. The first thing I noticed was how every news headline or story that was pushed to me was very left leaning. And some leaned so far they read more like Soviet style propaganda rather than news. My second complaint is with the rebate tool. When scanning receipts from certain types of stores, the program will not recognize the store name. Thus you are unable to get credit for that receipt. The first type of store I noticed this with is vaping stores. However, the final straw came today when I tried scanning a receipt for Cabelas. The program recognized the transaction total and date but would not pick up the store name even though the logo and name are clearly printed. With in just seconds of a tenth and final attempt to scan this receipt I get a push notification from the app about how the GOP is blocking gun restrictions. If you are going to make an app that is going to cater to one ideology that is fine. It’s your right, but please state this in the description.

It’s all messed up now. Ugh where to begin. I’ll just stick with the first screen to you once starting the app. The continue screen. Every time I start the app that MSM screen is always present, I click continue get to the main page. Then I click on an article read it click the back button and what to I get? The MSN screen again. I get this screen over and over again. I look at my profile I click the back button and get that nag screen again, because that’s what it is now. A nag screen. Even though I’m using a paid Microsoft account and clicked continue. When it was Start it was great it was my go to app for internet and AI. Now it’s more of a pain than anything else. I haven’t even started on the blank page you get when you click a reference from returned from CoPilot then click the back button and you just get a black screen. Did you guys do any bug testing??

Disappointed. Over a year ago, my biggest complaint was the repetitive Twitter, and Facebook inclusions that were already in the article. Now we get the same strange repetitions within the article, plus we get more links to things that appear to be an article, but it’s just a click bait ad, I can no longer highlight a word and search the definition, and I can no longer select a picture in an article and zoom in. The video articles I am most interested in, get stuck in a constant buffer but not the one I really don’t care about…those ones load just fine. I no longer get local news for my area, so I have to go back to doing a web search for local news, because the app only picks up neighboring city news. The closest city that I can get news for is 20 miles to the city limit but really the city is more like 40 miles away. I have setup the local news and areas of interest, but it just says “Sorry! No news for this area” Back to using google news now, which is only slightly better. Go back a few updates and you will win me back Microsoft.

Better on Windows Mobile. Unlike many of Microsoft's other apps, this one is much better on Windows Mobile and full Windows 10 than it is on iOS. Microsoft's News app on iOS is quite clunky and outdated when compared to similar news apps. It jumps into a different window just to show a picture, unlike their own Windows platform app which overlays the image. Navigation is difficult, with the back button way in the top corner and access to my "interest" topics buried in a top menu, instead of laid out with the other "main" topics. One last thing that I find quite confusing in this app - the lack of any useful settings. There is really only a way to sign into an account, and pick a language. That's about it. What about options for video playback? What about text sizes?! What about easier ways to choose and navigate content and interests? What about a dark theme choice!? For Microsoft's "dump windows and build on other platforms" mobile strategy, this sure falls flat. It's a terrible experience.

Still haven’t gotten my cash back. I sent a ticket to microsoft last month (February) and all I received what is an automated email saying that someone would get back to me. I still have not had a response from anyone. I had noticed I had $20 cash for that I had forgotten about from signing up with something. And that it was ready to be cashed out since September 2022. So I got excited and went ahead and type in my email address to cash it out to my PayPal. However, I did not realise that I had typed in my email address incorrectly by missing one letter. It says that my cashback was sent. However, I did not ever receive it. I need someone to fix this asap! This is so road that I should wait one whole month for someone to respond back to me. Kittie

Great News App. This app works very well. I really liked the Apple News app, (in the beginning), but then there became too many articles that where behind a paywall, which was a waste of my time. Plus, it was inconsistent where it would open and load all stories quickly and then open very slowly the next time. Microsoft’s news app has been very consistent at opening fast, very interesting stories/articles, and a well laid out UI. Big fan so far! Keep up the great work Microsoft!!

First review. I have been using the Microsoft Start app since it came public. I found it’s one of the only apps that I’ve been able use to get my Bing points. Using a Start app to get Bing points is a little complex and buggy at times. While I like the all in one app for news, shopping and receipt scanning here are a few drawbacks… I getting points takes much more time now. Sometimes you get points on clicks and sometimes nothing. Sometimes you can click through the trending news and click click click and get points, sometimes nothing at all and you have to come back later in the day to finish. In the last few days, I had the app freeze up on both iPad and iPhone. While I could clear history for the day and week without a problem the app crashed when trying to clear the longer dated history, i.e. 4 week history and all history. This was replicated on my iPhone and iPad both and this maybe due to limitations of the RAM or sandbox memory but hopefully this information will help to may the app better in future updates. Thank you Microsoft support teams for all you are doing.

(updated) one change is needed. Microsoft needs add at least one of these to significantly improve this app. They are: 1) add the date an article published 2) add a counter that shows the number of since the article was published 3) give us a way to hide an article after we have read it. It is entirely too to difficult to determine how long an article has been showing under an interest. I can't always remember if I have read an article. Whatever algorithm Microsoft uses to find articles related to an interest needs work. For example, I have an interest for cold cases. I get very little information on cold cases. My interest is full of covid-19 coverage. I understand the importance of covid-19 information and have an interest for that. Please limit information not related to an interest. Currently, I wonder why I have interests. *** too many sensational article headings. Otherwise know as click bait. It is too difficult to determine a valid article from clickbait. ***

How can I fix these issue?. I have a few things that aren’t working. But I just did two separate updates and both times I was assuming that it was a fix for the bubble at the bottom of my screen where the likes, comments and share info is but those are completely gone. I cannot like an article or comment nor share unless I click on the 3 dots tab at the top now to share but nothing else. Is there going to be an additional update to fix that or what is a solution to fix it? An where can you start saving the articles like before, it’s no place to save them, so I always have to send the article to myself to read later or add to my reading list but they use to show up in saved. The last thing is I use the app to do my Bing, but I can’t seem to click or use it to do anything other then get my mobile points. It doesn’t register when I go do it on edge and I don’t have a laptop so I understand the pc part but the edge doesn’t show.

Wake up before it’s too late.. Not sure who is running this app. However reading people’s thoughts on Trump in this app mostly saying he should be locked up in jail but why. Don’t you think if he did something wrong that he would be locked up? So yes sounds like a witch hunt. You got to many people on a band wagon or someone controlling bc when I tried to share a comment well guess what it wouldn’t let me. So don’t fall far this. Something is up with this app in my opinion kinda like Jan 6 when trump was set up by a lot of dem people but what do I know. “Trump is not in jail” oh I don’t know bc he is innocent. Huh who of thought. Wake up people before it’s to late it’s MAGA or it’s going to get worse check out Newsmax. Have a good day and God bless America!

This is Bing, Not a News App. What a shady, dishonest update. What was once an application focused on actually displaying news is now a sneaky way to trick people into using Bing. How so? When you load the application, you’re given a nearly identical experience as the Edge browser’s start page. There’s a search box, but if you think you’re searching for news topics, you’re wrong - it’s Bing. Looking for news? Sure, there’s a few headlines on that Edge start page, but the functionally you would expect to find and was central in previous versions is now buried in the third tab. It’s this sort of anti-user practice that build a generation of folks who lack faith in anything from Microsoft.

Microsoft Forces you to use app at times. I don’t need a news app from Microsoft but when I click on some articles from MSN or Google Chrome home page, it forces me to use the app to read the full article. Other times, even if it doesn’t force you then, it does once you try to comment on an article. I go ahead and let it start the app, take me to the article and then try to comment. This doesn’t work since it says I have to be signed in and the sign in button doesn’t work. I can actually sign in under the app but still forces me to try to sign in on individual articles but it won’t work. If I’m signed in on their darn app why do I have to sign in on the article page?? I don’t understand how this huge company can make such a broken and annoying product and predicament. SMH

This App Has Come a Looong Way!. I’ve used Microsoft news before, but uninstalled due to not having features I find important, especially the widget. Now it’s there and I’m happy as can be with Microsoft News, BUT there is one feature that is lacking; Custom news notifications. I want to be notified when other topics I follow have new stories. My Notification Center and widget are loaded with political stories, but not with what’s important to me too, which doesn’t make sense. Thanks Microsoft News for making a reliable app that I can count on!

What did I just download?. Is this a news app? A browser? A weather app? A grocery delivery app? Microsoft just couldn’t quite figure out it’s use case. The dramatic navigational and UI inconsistencies seem to echo this confusion. Some pages have a back button, others don’t. Some pages are native slideovers that you dismiss by swiping. Other pages are websites wrapped in native controls whose tab has to be closed. Sometimes you can swipe backwards to go back and sometimes you can’t. There is a user profile settings page and then another settings page nested within it. Searching just brings up the web bing search results instead of a desired news article. The bottom navbar‘s buttons are identically weighted making it unclear which one is the “front page” of the app. Then there are the functional bugs. For example, progressive pages sometimes fail to load when you pull up for more content (games, looking at you). All in all, I find this app confusing and a bit aimless. It’s got the kitchen sink of features but none of them are implemented all that well.

What is this app?. This app has multiple purposes that are all scattered throughout. The main reason reason I got this app was to upload my receipts. So far i have only made a few bucks, i do shop quite a bit and so does the rest of my family but the downside is not getting 1 cent a receipt. There are other offers to get more Cash back but for some reason you have to click the actual offer rather than pressing “scan receipt” so that I could get the bonus, weird. So after 6 receipts uploaded, you have a chance to win $50, I’ve only ever got between 11 and 50 cents and I’ve down I would say a little under 10 times. My overall point is, what are the odds of winning $50, or a little more then 50 cents. Don’t get me wrong a few bucks never hurt nobody but still I’m just curious as to why I feel like this app is useless.

Does not change news feed. I’m hoping that Microsoft sees this as their link for support is a dead end. I use start on both my iPhone and Windows tablet. I don’t know how many times I’ve told it to block whole categories but they still show up…in both places. If I tell you I’m not interested in entertainment news, why do you keep adding that to my news feed? Same is true for some other categories. Come on guys, fix this! Update March 2: still the same. I get a lot of entertainment news that I don’t want and sources I’ve blocked turn up anyway. I’m a big Microsoft fan but you guys blew this one. Also the constant scrolling back to the top is wasteful of my time. Why can’t your feed pick up at the last story I read?

Great news, bad app. Microsoft News is fantastic for news. But the app never save settings about news preferences and even when you set them again, the categorization of articles is often poor. For example, I cannot find any possible way to permanently disable news about sports, entertainment and especially royals. When I finally do disable these (until the next time the app starts), the app saves that I’m logged in, but ignore my preferences. An because of poor categorization, things like sports, entertainment and royals ends up jammed under trending or possibly Asia or Africa. The result is, at least one in 3 articles I’m presented are tabloid rubbish. I can’t imagine that MS would need more than one person on duty at a time to properly sort and filter articles.

Newest update has an irritating bug. Updated…received notice from Development Team that issues fixed. Development Team fixed my issues and the app now works well. Nice to see that comments are reviewed and addressed where possible. Every time I open app or try to switch between stories I get the introductory screen where you have to select “continue”. After that I get the pick three or more topics screen before getting to the news feed. This is every time! Hope this is fixed soon.

So sad!!!. I’ve had this app since my days of using a Nokia Lumia 1020. Been through a ton of updates. I recommend this app to everyone. Going forward I can’t. I’m not a fan of the new layout at all with the last update. To me it seems just a giant mess. And it made finding news articles even harder to find. I’m here for the news, why do I need to see groceries and everything else. Stop trying to be like apple news. Not everything apple dose is a good thing. As I type this review on an IPhone. I now the irony. I’ll keep the app around play around more with it. Hopefully get use to it. I won’t be recommending it to anyone for awhile. Was one of the best news apps out there and now just like everyone else’s. And not good at it.

Update ruined this app. UPDATE 2: they finally rolled back the “back button” issue too! App is fixed! Hurrah! UPDATE: The “Welcome to the MSN” problem has been fixed! The app still doesn’t let you click “back” in the browser from links on the Bing rewards page, but I will still put my review up to a four, as the “Welcome” screen was the most egregious problem by far. If they correct the “back” button issue, I’ll go back to a five! (Original review follows) I loved the Bing app and used it everyday. Unfortunately when they “updated” it to this “MSN” app, they made it so, so much worse. Anytime you click on an article, when you click “back” it brings you to the “WELCOME TO THE MSN” screen that you have to click “continue” to get back to the homepage. It also GOT RID OF the “Back” button for any links you click in the “Bing rewards” section. There’s just an X to click instead, which—surprise, surprise, also brings you right back to that infuriating “WELCOME TO THE MSN” page. It’s basically impossible to navigate the app now without clicking that “continue” button every minute or so. Very disappointing. I’ll update this review if and when they fix it.

New layout hard to read. The updated newspage is messy and hard to read. The story tiles are arranged in in two randomly staggered columns, which results in a confusing jumble to the eyes. You can’t scan the articles left to right because the headlines don’t line up, and you can’t scan the columns top to bottom, because there is no bottom of the page. This is beyond annoying. Whoever designed it need to go back to Layout 101. Please line up the story tiles left to right to make the page readable again! The content is what it is. This isn’t so important to me because I seek news from multiple sources. But it has to be easily readable or it’s a no-go.

One reason. I haven’t experienced any crashes yet as others have. I use this on an iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 Plus. I haven’t watched or read the news for many years since it’s mostly negative and all politics is garbage. I own this for one reason. ‘GOOD NEWS’. It’s about time someone did something like this. I can now skip all the negative bull**** and go straight to the stuff that doesn’t try to pull me down. Then I can skip right over to technology and be done. Super easy.

Why bother?. This app tries to to be a catchall for your phone browsing use, but in practice just feels pointless. The apps are just a collection of actual apps you can download, but with less functionality leading to frustration and a trip to the actual dedicated app instead of the one in start. Then there are the news articles. The majority are random clickbait headlines with little substance if any at all. Many of them are clearly written by AI and contain repetitive information that might not even be true. There are also plenty of ads masquerading as articles. If you want to use any of the features in start just download the dedicated app for that and use a different news app for everything else. If gpt 4.0 is important to you then use the edge app, but Microsoft puts up so many walls on it I just use the chat gpt app instead with 3.5. TLDR: There’s no real reason for the Start app to exist. Most of the articles feel like something my grandma would share on Facebook and the apps are worse versions of the ones in the actual App Store.

Glitches. Reading article and all of a sudden it disappeared. Couldn’t get it back or at times not even find the article. I’ve also flagged articles that I wanted to follow, and never see them again. And yes, I know the difference between follow and delete. If this was a one time issue I could accept it, but it’s not just one time. It’s been multiple times and over a variety of topics. If it can be posted IT SHOULD NOT DISAPPEAR. Or is that just good old CENSORSHIP and CORRUPTION or someone decided it was not that much of an article. OH SNAP — isn’t that the same thing?

Was once great, but avoid at all costs now. This was my top choice for a news app not that long ago. I relied on it all through 2020, which, you know, was kind of a newsy year. But a few months back they updated the app to include things like user comments on articles, and social media reaction “features” that allow you to 👍 or ❤️ articles. So now each article, let’s say reporting on something tragic, will have hearts and emoticons and a toxic comments section below it, things that don’t belong in a news app, and frankly, don’t look good next to an article about death or disease or war. And all the standard internet comment section junk has reared its head: obvious trolls, even more obvious bad actors, arguments over nothing, and constant “Biden libtard” this and “Trump nazi” that between commenters that have absolutely *no* idea what’s going on around them. Use a different news app. There are a bunch. There were features only this one had, and it *was* the best once. But we never needed Facebook style features in the app, and a quick review of recent history should have let Microsoft know adding these kinds of features does not improve the user experience, but creates a hostile environment rife with abuse and garbage.

Excellent news app. Happy how I can leave comments but they should not be censored if they don’t meet the opinions of the censors

Lots of notifications but articles hardly load. I ended uninstalling, most of the notifications wouldn’t load when opened and I could filter specific dodgy outlets.

Mr. I am able to watch news anywhere and anytime so that’s great and not needed to follow the news you do/did for me. Thanks so much love your program App.

Forced ads, what’s the point?. The app functions adequately but it’s unpleasant to use with the ads littered throughout the news. There needs to be a paid subscription to get rid of all ads/sponsored content, or else I’m better off using a regular browser with certain useful extensions.

Fun Place for News Bytes. I like the articles the have been personalised. Simple interface that connects with the content well.

Live traffic. Live traffic feature is very helpful. However, if we’re allowed to customise the route would be extremely helpful as we sometimes needs to take alternate route due to traffic congestion or hazard on route to work and or home:

Was an excellent app now full of rubbish. This news app was simple, easy to use and well stocked with good news articles. It is now clunky to use and full of ‘sponsor’ articles and ‘ads’. You have to navigate past so much rubbish to find a decent story. There are better news apps out there now. In fact they are like what this app use to be. Pity.

Ai. I would like to know that my account can open up my Apple Watch

I have edge on mobile do you want me to delete it. I have edge on mobile do you want Microsoft or edge

Review lachlans thoughts. Don’t really think much about search functions of the app can only see certain items in news feed.

Wind units are useless. Report a problem system is unusable. Dear Microsoft. Wind speed in this app are presented as metres per second. Useless! Please provide mph, kph and knots as options to choose (like every other weather app!). Also the “report a problem” function is a complete dead end and unusable. Other than that it works but not as well as most apps of the same type(s).

News. Too slow to update. The news is happening every minute. You must be up to date by the minute, not a day or 2 late.

Terrible app. It’s glitchy and does not open news articles on the one you clicked, it opens up sometimes a four month old article.

Very good browser. 1 issue.. We can’t select this app as our default browser on iPhone sadly. Please have this as an option!

Excellent app. As a stroke victim I find that this app is easy 4 me 2 navigate ✅

Nice to read easy and always up to date. As above

Somewhat annoying.... The news coverage is broad and the layout looks great. Some issues with grammar, also sometimes the photo’s in a story don’t correspond with that story, which can be a little frustrating.

Hate it!. I’m forced to use the app when all I want to do is read the news in my browser on my phone. I shouldn’t be forced to use the app. When I do try and use the app, I get very different news stories to what I do on the web, stories that I have no interest in and that I can read elsewhere if I wanted to.

Much improved. Content is much better in the last 3-4 moths. Was getting sick of gossip, entertainment and Hollywood BS stories. Good job! Please drop Daily Mail.

Too many ads.. Two ads on one phone sized screen. How could any developer think that is not annoying? Just read the headlines from the notification, don’t bother clicking on any of the new stories.

Should have left the app as it was. Horrible format since the update. Not very user friendly, not the same style of news showing up. Disappointed and will look for a new news app now.

What Happened To The 3D Touch Function. I know Apple has changed the 3D function under ios13 but this latest update to your app has removed it all together for those of who unfortunately updated to iOS 13. The 3D function was working before you update this app. Please bring it back. Other apps using the iOS 13 platform have some type of 3D Touch.

Great. Only new to it, But easy to use,,seems like it will be great for quick news notices.

Good stories, shame about photos crashing app. I like how up to date the news stories are, but I usually end up frustrated & going to other sites as it continually crashes or doesn't load photos with the story.

Crashing and errors. This ap crashes continuously and error notice telling me me there is something wrong with my internet connection, when clearly it's working for everything else. This needs a fix !

Microsoft start but. This is fantastic app from Microsoft but where are the WIDGETS? Also when you tap maps and tap navigate it open Apple Map👎🏻 Why not Microsoft maps👍 # Weather section viewing RADAR is broken. Bottom buttons overlap others. Please fix that too.

Moronic cesspit of the worst opinions, and bizarre censorship. What a terrible app. It pushes out the most trash news (from all sides of politics) and then facilitates the worst comments system, completely unmoderated except for a TERRIBLE automated censor that forbids you from saying WAY too many normal words that would allow you to make a reasonable contextual comment to an article. Absolutely the worst way to run an app. And it’s a shame that Twitter seems to think this is a winning formula for success lol

Please fix the new layout. The app just updated and the new layout is terrible for browsing. I’m not sure what happened to the fonts but it is even harder to scan for news now. The search bar at the top needs to be hidden as it takes up limited screen real-estate with no benefit. I’m also frustrated that space was dedicated to emojis 👍which takes up a whole line of the headline.

I give up. This app used to show the interests I had set up in individual tabs. I could browse through local news, world news, then specifics interests I had set up. This was important to me as there are times when I want to read news items on one subject. From what I can see, it’s now one page that I guess takes account of the interests I’ve set up, but they’re all jumbled up in one feed. The tabs have gone and despite many attempts to find them, they appear to have been taken away. Ok, time to invest some effort into the Google News app. This one is of no use to me any more.

Good job Microsoft or the product manager or the product owner. Updated to the new version, good job. Interface looks much better. Now i will try the news

Shows ignored topics. I want to like this app, I really do, but I keep getting news topics about things I have no interest in. I have disabled all sporting news completely and I still get AFL and Soccer on my feed no matter how many times I tap ignore on the topics

Never-ending onboarding. The app just keeps kicking me into the onboarding screen every time I open it: and when I tried to delete it and use the website instead, half of the articles demanded the app. This is infuriating.

Regular News. Refreshing to read & listen the news

MSN news. It's an excellent easy to use app and superior to many paid digital news mags. I enjoy the msn digital read every morning with my coffee. There is little need for a physical daily newspaper these days though we still get it delivered for my wife who is a slow tech adopter. MSN news is the way of the future.

Cecil Renfield. A good news site, well laid out and legible typeface. I give it a once over daily and more.

Infuriating. Very often fails to load the pics in the story, you are stuck with the tiny thumbnail version in the headline itself. Has been doing this for as long as I remember, across multiple devices. Forces me to use other news apps instead.

Microsoft News app. Excellent, Awesome, comprehensive news app covering Politics, Sports, Current Affairs, Weather etc.

What’s happened Microsoft?. Lately “Start” has begun to falter, with an almost complete breakdown today. Recently, news articles have been recycled day after day. Today, I tried to review a repeated article, only to be told “This page no longer exists.” All recycled articles have generated this message today. I tried to ask Copilot but kept being dumped back to the Start Home page, each time after Copilot added a new line to the answer, but I barely got 3 seconds to read before the exit. So I deleted Start and all data and reloaded it. I hope this fixes it, or I’ll just dump it and go back to other news media. Looks as if my ploy to remove and reinstall Start has worked. Everything seems to be working again. Must have hit a bug 🐞 1 day after removing & reinstalling and Start is back to its old tricks. Deleted, rebooted iPad and reinstalled. Cross fingers. This is make or break for Start.

MSN news. Great way to stay up to date with what’s going on in the world. And great that the app is on my iPad and phone so I am always able to have a read.

Actually a good platform and things I care about.. The weather app alone is so good and news alerts are always something I’m currently following.

Informative but crashes far to often. Good news despite being biased on issues, very little AFL news. Pictures don't always load and crashes whilst reading or looking at articles.

Easy. Very easy to use very useful fun quiz’s and stuff to do i recommend to everyone!

Pretty good. I get the news that I’m looking for

Buying. I don’t want to buy any stories but it is a good app if you like to catch up on what is happening out there in our world !

Microsoft news app. Can’t copy news articles to share like you can through safari search, so that’s a huge inconvenience for me. App design and font size needs work, too busy and far from easy to navigate. Tried it out, now deleted it.

News and Search in one! Love it!. This app combines News and Search into one simply structured app, plus lets you earn MS Rewards just by searching or scrolling through news!

Great App.. Have had MSN news on my phone for some time, only last week finally installed it on my IPad. Best of all the news Apps that I use, very easy to navigate also.

Microsoft News. Fair and balanced...quality news

Entertaining. Keeps me up to speed on life’s little mishaps and uphills. It’s also a very interesting app for down time in general.🧐

Real news. Has more real news than our national broadcaster. The MSN news website is also my prime source of news.

Don’t bother. App crashes at least once a week, have to delete and reload each time. I only want to read the news but the app makes it so much harder.

Font size too small. Great app but how do I increase font size?

Forced to use app. I don’t like the app at all. When I use my phone, I can expand two articles on the MSN websites and then it forces me to the app which seems to have day old news.

News. Great wide selection of articles.

App itself is great BUT….. I do not want to comment with my full name which comes from my Microsoft profile ! When you login to comment, it uses your full name!! Why Microsoft can’t I use an alias? FIX this !!!

App doesn’t open with article I’m trying to read. I have had the same problem as others where it forces me to open the app to read the article, but I then can’t find the article I wanted to read. Every time.

Disappointed. Content doesn’t change for days. Content is not as interesting as on MSN.ca View in Start doesn’t work from MSN.ca

False… continue reading in the app… That’s a lie. Reading an article continued from the Independent…must be a news source site. Says continue reading in the app. I download the Microsoft link and it’s nowhere to be found from where I was reading it. You have to type all the information in it. This is not what anybody’s gonna want to do it want to direct link… This was a waste of time ..I deleted the app.

Best news app, but crashes sometimes. Sometimes app shuts or freeze but still the best news app and thanks for not showing pub.

Zero Stars. I am very angry that MSN is forcing me to use their app if I want to read an article. Sometimes I can just read the article when ‘expand’ is the choice about how I want to access the article. However at other times I am forced to open the app to read the article. 😡😡😡😡😡

Forced. They don’t give you the alternative to keep reading without downloading the app. Is the app so bad that you have to twist arms to get it downloaded?

Not News,Just Another Social Media App. The opinions stated in section of this app come down to “you’re wrong, no, you’re wrong”. The news is a very distant second to the social media megaphone the app offers. It looks like there is no moderation of the comments, so the app is perfect for extremists to sling crap. Any comment supported by thought or fact is quickly called down by name callers.

App. Not much use bi read the msn site it says open in app but never does. So you can only read the headlines. Not the actual artiles.

Some news in between all the advertising. Every other article is an advertisement. What’s the point?

Doesn’t let me read articles. It blocks me from reading them in my browser, then when I click read in app, it just goes to some home default for the app, not the article. Worse than useless.

BROKEN!!!. After i updated this app… my favourite thing about it VANISHED! I can no longer find the section called REWARDS where i could collect daily bonuses & do news searches … etc This is going to impact my ability to keep a streak going.

Too many ads. Home page doesn’t fit in iPad screen. Keeps showing the welcome screen. There are more ads than actual informative articles. The best part about this app is probably the icon. Nice butterfly.

Go back to original layout. This app use to fill my iPad screen. Now it is 1/2 the size. It use to fill the whole screen on my iPad. I was using this app until they changed it.

Canadian Fox News. If you’re looking for a Canadian version of Fox News this is it. Keep that in mind as you read the news. There is another side to their reporting that tends to be less biased.

Frustrating!. When I want to read an article on MSN it takes me to the App which I open, but then I cannot find the article I was interested in. I’m going to find another way to read the news…don’t need this frustration!

Doesn’t Load. This app is not fast or efficient. Half the articles don’t load. When trying to flip through stories the app has a mind of its own. I wanted to like this app but it doesn’t like me.

Bonjours 😉. Salutations distinguées 🌸

Join the Microsoft collective!. Microsoft is just like the Borg. One System to rule them all. It just doesn’t jive…

It’s like they don’t want me to see the news.. When I first got the app it was fine but after a couple weeks they got rid of the news button on the bottom of the screen and replaced it with camera. Camera?! No big deal could still get to the news through the apps section so I pinned the news app to my favorites and moved on. Not too long after that the news disappeared from the apps section. Now I only get a handful of top stories on the homepage. For the life of me I can’t figure out why this news app doesn’t want me to see the news. I use the app only for Microsoft points now and get my news from Google.

Does Not Work as Advertised. From msn/en-ca , I click on “continue reading on the app” and it takes me to the app… but the article is nowhere to be found Thanks for making me download an app that doesn’t work. Will be deleting and continue going to original source of article to continue reading.

left moderators. i can never comment on stories because microsoft is a left woke corporation. No bad words no hate just a different opinion but i’m censored and can’t post.

Mostly doesnt work AND wants access to my Photos app. Recently, this app has been prompting me on my iPad and iPhone to allow access to my Photos - whatever for? So, my trust level is now really low.

No me jodan. No me moleste

Why?. Truelly dislike this ap. Get asked on msn to swith to see a news article and it never takes you to it garbage app.

Can’t open articles. I used to choose an article from MSN then it said continue reading in App. So I accept. Now it won’t open and wants me to download Start App or something like that. Which I have.Garbage. Just let me read the article on MSN. The Startpage does not have the same articles that I find on MSN homepage.

Microsoft News. It’s Microsoft everything is good there

News mini app vanished since a few months ago. Where is news section?

Love the new design.. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add RSS subscription support. It will make this app superior to anything else on the market!! Thank you. Edit: You guys used to have an amazing MSN Weather app. Please at least add a weather section to the Microsoft news app.

Je veux être servi en FRANÇAIS S.V.P merci. Sinon j’annule

Keeps reverting to old news. For some reason, this app constantly “freezes” or simply goes back to presenting articles that are 3 months old. Then won’t update until you delete it and reinstall. Very frustrating and annoying.

I just want the weather. MSN weather is super accurate, but I don’t need the rest of this app. A standalone would be superb.

Sucks!. This app is TERRIBLE!!!!! Try to open the story you want to read on the app and it doesn’t take you there, constantly have to update it! May just give up on MSN news altogether…..

Start. I don’t like using Start. I much prefer MSN for the layout, etc. Unfortunately, when i got to an article on MSN, I can’t continue reading it unless I hit “continue reading”, “continue on the app”, or “expand article”. Very, very annoying. If I wanted to use “Start”, I’d go there first. Please let us make up our own minds!!!

Ms app. I am continuously redirected from msn articles to your app, at which point I need to search for what I was reading on msn! This is nuts! How many millions of msn users don’t finish reading what might be important news because they r forced to your app and then need to spend TIME trying to find what they were reading. Fix this!

The most comprehensive browser start page on mobile. Even though I’m not an Edge user, I have to admit that the start page it offers is superior to the competition. It’s refreshing to get it on mobile even though I wish I could change the sources to ones closer to the centre of the political spectrum.

APP IS HORRIBLE. Nothing appears to work and sometimes the comments and likes won’t show. The news stories are always months old, but that might be deliberate. There’s no point in looking for engagement because you’re censored to death if you don’t agree with the status quo. You’re not allowed to have (respectful) conservative discourse on this app.

Old news and forced to go here. This app shows too much old news and doesn’t update as it changes. It is the end of July and it is showing a top story from April about snow in the forecast as an example. I shouldn’t have to see stories more than a week old so often while new stories are pushed aside. Also as you scroll down you get repeats of the same stories time and time again. The MSN news website also pushes you here and often doesn’t open automatically and sits on the app page here or you have to manually search up the same title. Very annoying. It used to be alright until they changed their dashboard to remove the top stories tab and put other stuff in its place. I can’t find a way to customize it. Sometimes you just want to browse news titles for things that interest you.

Bing maps. Can you kindly add an option to send the planned rout on web bing map directly to phone as google does? And could you please develop bing maps app for ios like google maps? Thank you 🙏

Top Stories & News. Keeps me informed with breaking news.

Review of app. Should go straight to article it is attached to - nigh time waster!

MSN. I get kicked over to this APP to continue an article I was reading on MSN on my IPhone but the story is never there.

Works well and fast. Have been using this app to catch up with the news that I am interested for more than 2yrs

Read your most recent reviews.. Same problem identified again and again! Fire whoever is in charge and fix it!

Stopped Working. After the newest update, it’s just stuck in a loop, sending me back to the setup page to personalize feed after each article. Makes it almost unusable.

Bring back Start. The MSN app keeps asking me for preferences despite having provided it many times. Very annoying. Going back to Google News.

👉 Are you looking for an Adsense alternative advertising platform?

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!

Enjoyable refresh of the app makes. I usually use the built in News app for iPhone until I noticed an icon change for Microsoft News and re-checked it out. What a difference this ‘refresh’ has had! Clean, fast and easily adjustable/customizable. Very cool - keep the updates coming with the speed getting faster! :)

I had high hopes. I thought to myself how hard could it be to make a news feed based on personal interests. Surely a company as large as Microsoft could handle such a task. Well I was wrong You allowed me to pick my interests and then when I go to my feed it’s a bunch of stories I have no interest in. political propaganda and other world events are shoved down your throat on this app. if you let me curate my own news feed then do not put stuff you think I’d like into my feed. do not sneak in your agenda under the guise of “oh maybe you’ll find this interesting” well no I don’t because it wasn’t an interest I picked out to begin with.

The new design is a disaster. I like the original news app. I have recommended to many my friends before. However the new direction and new design is a total disaster. The app lost its identity. There are some very anti human designs like the swipe left behavior. The way to easy to click like button. The auto play videos on home screen and many and many What purely puzzled me was the tabs. What! Tabs! Is this a browser? What do I need to keep previously read news in tabs? What do u think people would use those tabs for? What does this app want to be?

Suddenly much worse. What used to be an ok-ish news aggregator suddenly has a weird and awkward layout, is harder to navigate or find things in and has even fewer customization options. But a ton more white space on my screen so I can exercise my thumbs by scrolling twice as much. It also assumes, because I'm in Mexico for a week, that I only want to see articles in Spanish, and there's no way to tell it otherwise. So, nice job programmers. I'll just uninstall and move on. Whoever the high schoolers you hired to design this mess had in mind when they did, it wasn't me. Millennial trophies for all of you.

Comprehensive App. Microsoft Start seems to incorporate everything I need from Bing, Bing AI, weather, news, cash back from rebates, and more. Prior to the Start app I primarily used Edge, even though the Bing app is on my phone. The Bing app seemed limited so I just went straight for the browser, since Microsoft Start I use Edge for mobile less and the Microsoft Start app more and more.

Junk feed makes a waste of time. The app does a horrible job curating articles. It allows you to create interest sections but many are not sorted on the actual topic, instead it mixes articles from other topics. Worse is that it will duplicate the same article multiple times in the same section, so you keep scrolling past the same article, making it a waste of time. It is ad supported, so advertisements are sprinkled throughout the feeds. Frustrating distraction but acceptable.

Shopping for a replacement news app. The previous version of the app was my go-to news app for the past few years. It had a straight-forward, clean design, that allowed me to get to the stories I was interested in quickly, but also introduced me to others in a simple way. The new app feels just like the Apple news app - disjointed and full of non-news ads. You literally have to scroll through a ton of content to get to actual, relevant news stories. So tired of the “dumbing down” of news - why can’t we just read news?! If I want advertising and “fluff” pieces I’ll go to the Apple news app.

The receipt scanner does not work well. Have tried the scanner and it doesn’t scan receipts well. I must have scanned the same receipt over 15 times but it couldn’t register the store name though it was in big bold letters at the top as well as in a smaller font with the address right below the store logo name. Needs work

Love MSN. The MSN news app is easy to navigate through to find the stories that I really am interested in. I have found MSN to be very objective in their news reports. When a mistake has been made the editorial staff will print a retraction/correction with an apology to their readers. The only issue I have is the color of the app tends to blend into the background of my home screen. I would appreciate a change to the color and design to work with a darker background like I have.

What a comeback Microsoft 👍🏻. Microsoft might actually be making a comeback here. I love start it’s great place to get all your news. You can even see short form videos of clips of the news under the video tab. The best part is you can also have ai help you with search and sometime news stories your reading.

Needs better local news coverage options. The local news section seldom if ever has any LOCAL news. It merely repeats the same national news information. Why have the option if you aren’t actually going to see LOCAL news. The option to pull up all of the local news stations and scroll through is an awesome feature and it used to work fine in earlier versions, showing several local news stations. Now almost completely pointless. Hope it changes soon.

A better visual experience than apple news. I liked apple news until they changed the view. I typically read my news on my tablet while it’s in landscape mode while propped up. Apple news now has a large panel on the left side while viewing and it greatly obstructs and negatively impacts the viewing experience. I found this app after the change with apple news and like it better.

Was okay, now garbage. The redesign of the News app into the new Start app comes with several negatives. First, it's now a nearly indistinguishable duplicate of the Bing app. Second, even when selecting the option to remove news sources, they're not really removed. They remain in the feed and also return to the feed the next time the app is opened. Third, there's no option to stop videos from autoplaying. In this instance, three strikes mean the app is out. I have uninstalled it and will instead use the Apple News app—and this is coming from a fervent Microsoft user.

The receipt scanning is a JOKE. This app was already ridiculous for baiting you in thinking you could win an extra $50 for scanning in receipts. The biggest bonus I’ve ever received was 50 cents and I’ve scanned in hundreds. But now it’s completely useless as you have to wait for your receipts to finish pending. My receipts were pending for over a week which caused 26 receipts I had to be too old to even use. And now you have to hold on to all of these receipts after scanning them in because if they think just one is invalid you have to rescan all of them. It’s not worth the hassle or headache to literally get paid PENNIES.

The Worst IOS App from Microsoft. The options to share an article are too limited. Sharing via email provides the MSN URL shortcut, which is almost as annoying as AMP links in Google News. There are no options to open the article in a web browser. To locate the URL of the original site, sometimes I need to enter the title of the article into a search engine. The most annoying issue is when sharing an article via text, the prompt requesting I write a review prevents me from selecting a contact and also will not let me respond to their request. I have no graceful way to proceed and must close the app and then relaunch it.

Broken. 2 stars because their “Scan And Earn” feature for scanning store receipts for small $ rewards has been broken. It brings up the camera and lets you scan a receipt but the app doesn’t do the OCR text recognition of the receipt store name, item prices, etc. This has been broken for a while now. Apparently I had reviewed this app before when it was called Bing News. Microsoft has rebranded or repurposed this application ID in the Apple App Store multiple times. Bing News became MSN News and then now it’s called Start which is kind of a collection of MS things.

No updates. About the time of the last update to the app the news does not update on the “for you” header. It just gets older and older. No matter how many times you hit reset the same stories were there. Trump convicted? Nope. Still showing article asking the judge for clarifications. Not until I deleted app and reinstalled did it show the conviction and then it never changed for 14 hours. The answer? Deleted a second time. Thanks for keeping me in the dark. Must be what your fake intelligence (AI) is telling you to do.

Frustrating app. Using Microsoft start on an iPad is frustrating. After clicking on a tile to read a story then pressing the back button to return, Start repositions you at the top of the Start page. No matter how far down the article link tile was located. Thus forcing you to scroll backdown the page to relocate to where you were before. Repositioning to the previous scroll point is such a trivial thing to program. I don’t understand why they chose this pattern.

Way too far Left for me.. I took this off my phone yesterday. I received about 7 notifications yesterday (Sunday) that referenced headlines that were very misleading and some that were outright lies. ie. Rubio schooled by Jonathan Karl. I am tired of “news” organizations misleading us. Russia gate lies that lied about Russia involvement in electing Trump. Hunter Biden’s laptop and now 3 balloon excursions by China during Trump. I estimate 95% of notifications I get are negative to Republicans. The lie about Social Security/Medicare is especially irritating. I think addressing the problem now is better than letting it go broke. Tell the truth, it needs to be addressed.

Poor quality. I've been using this app as a replacement for Apple News and Google News on my iPhone; however, although there has been a very anesthetically pleasing redesign, the user experience is still of poor quality in comparison to the other news apps. It's also very much similar to a browser rather than a news app and the news information is not as interesting or relevant as Apple News or Google News. The App needs more work

Fantastic App, but man, are the News Articles Biased. The interface and aesthetics of the app are phenomenal, however, I wish that Microsoft gave us the ability to choose who we actually follow on the web. Set aside any feelings you have about politics/etc., and just focus on what would make the app better for the end user. I personally don’t align with any political party, but can tell when developers favour certain news organisations over others. I wish Microsoft would allow me to choose whoever and not choose whoever I want in regards to subscribing when using the app. I like to follow certain websites when scouring the web for news and this app doesn’t allow me any customisation whatsoever on that front. Until this happens, I will keep this uninstalled from my device. 5/5 app interface 0/5 customisation 2.4/5 overall review +0.5/5 because Apple doesn’t do half stars Thanks for listening!

Old version was much better. This app used to be my go-to for global news. Yet the latest redesign makes created a news app full of unnecessary junk stories and a negative reading experience. For example, the addition of social features makes me feel like I’m on a social app, rather than a news app. The inability to view and zoom in on the news photos, makes the stories less engaging. The reorganization of content aims to direct readers to what the app wants the user to read, instead of what the user wants to read. I encourage the product leads to take a step back and gain a better understanding of what their core audience actually wants in a news app.

Getting worse instead of better. I have used this app for years, even before it was renamed Start. They have taken away access to my interests, only allowing a news scroll, and their “news sources” have devolved to things like Raw Story and Pop Sugar in place of credible news organizations. I have tried blocking many of these, but with the latest builds even when I block them the same sources and “articles” keep appearing. Microsoft had a good app and they have ruined it. It’s no wonder there are so many uninformed people out there sure of what they know. Go elsewhere for news.

Overexcited Links. I actually really liked this app, but with a recent version change, now when scrolling through any article, if my finger so much as brushes against a link, it immediately follows it. These articles are all loaded with links, so when scrolling it’s extremely frustrating to be constantly taken away from the article you are trying to read every time you touch a link. News flash! Touching links while scrolling is not the same as tapping a link deliberately while the page is still! Arghhh!!! Otherwise the app is solid.

Much better than news websites. News websites have so many ads and other junk on the page. They take so long to load. The News app is a much experience since articles load faster and there are fewer ads. The two issues that are a pain: when swipe scrolling if the swipe starts where there is a hyperlink it navigates to the link rather than scrolling. Also, sometimes the app blanks out and I have to restart the app.

Has one terrible flaw. The news feeds are good, but there is a terrible flaw with this app; you can scroll and scroll, see a few articles you want to read, find one to open. You read it, but when you go back, it always takes you to the very top again, and it refreshes, so you have to scroll and scroll to get back to where you were, but the refresh has changed everything so the other articles you wanted to read are gone. Very frustrating

News from a variety of sources. It’s a very good app. The news likely isn’t totally unbiased given the likely users and what they click to read. A person does get news from a variety of sources and I do like that. I like how it is organized but don’t like the way that the first part of the first sentence of an article is now above the photo and the article is below. UGH I so hate that!

Cheap. I use this app only for their points/rewards system, which they constantly adjust to lower your earnings. After using this for several years, I’m going to delete the app. For one, they stopped doing receipt rewards. Even while they did this program, you NEVER received any resolution from customer service. It wouldn’t count any local business receipts, it would decide certain receipts don’t count, and it would miss linking up to product rewards. And customer service was no help and never credited your account. For the points, they used to be far more generous. They have whittled it down to 30 points for news articles, 50 per day on polls and quizzes, and the searches. Which now the searches must be completed in batches of 4 searches every 20 minutes. The headlines are nonsense and propaganda. Most aren’t even newsworthy. I would never consider this a legitimate, trustworthy new source.

Horrible. I only had a good experience for about two weeks, but after that, it no longer was a good app for getting cashback rewards for receipts submitted. After I cashed out about $12, I started to have all of my receipts being reviewed and most of the time they would be reviewed later which did not allow me to get the bonus cash rewards from the restaurants as those are times and really random, and then I also started getting my receipts, rejected or told that my receipts were duplicates, even though they were not. It’s a really bad app would not recommend

Cringe changes. Microsoft had a good thing going with me and ruined it. First they removed the ability to get cashback from gas purchases, then they removed the deals tab, and now they removed the news tab I actually liked and put in a video tab I have zero interest in. Microsoft, please stop trying to be TikTok. It’s not working out for google. Heck it’s not even really working out for TikTok. Give us the ability to at least change the tabs at the bottom to specific apps like you can do with the app slots on the apps tab.

Bad iOS experience. I WANT to like it because I’m annoyed by Apple News, but Microsoft (in typical fashion) isn’t sticking with the expected experience on iOS. For example, swiping out of the article doesn’t work; you have to hit the back button specifically. Also, you can’t highlight a word and use the standard iOS tools to look it up in the dictionary or on the web; instead Microsoft has their own awkward and non-standard lookup for the at word. The whole experience is like that. It just doesn’t fit well on iOS. Bummer.

Excellent app ….. Great app to get the daily news And be on top of our country’s current events. I would like more if it did not have the comments section. Most comments are disgraceful, ignorant and resentful. The people commenting on the news have nothing* better to do than attack the messenger and spit venous saliva. Please close the comments section so I can read the news without the feeling of grief for my country. Thanks

Finally can start recommending this. I’ve been wanting Microsoft news app to step their game up. In the past, I could never recommend them, they were missing a lot of features that others like Apple news and google news. Loved that they finally adding reactions and thumbs up and down

The BEST yet!. I really am so grateful for this news app. I have run the gamut of news apps and deleted them all after a year or so: CNN, AP,Reuters, FOX, BBC,NBC, etc, etc. Each had major drawbacks for me and some were almost completely video driven and hey, I can still read! Don't need to watch videos like a child. Anyway, the news is relevant and concise with some quite in-depth stories, which I really appreciate.

Broken/old links and stories. Typically, I read my news on the MSNBC webpage. Lately though, to read an entire news story there’s a message stating to view the entire story click on the link to this app. So I reluctantly added this app. And now when I’m on the web and reading something I really want to know more about, I click the link and it takes me not to the story I was reading but to the app store page. I click “open” and it takes me to old stories. The app is inaccurate, dated and essentially useless. Waste of time. There are better news and information apps.

Incredibly BIASED. Such a shame. This app… they make you install it if you check the Bing news feed easier, but my goodness it’s just a never ending BARRAGE of anti Trump and anti republican info dump constantly. It’s shameless. You never see anything but sympathetic stuff about the other side even when Biden has all sorts of classified leaks, they just report TRUMP all day long. Just cool it please? He isn’t president any longer. Move on and report and push the NEWS to me. I didn’t even ASK this app when they wanted to know my interests for any political topics, I picked tech and video games but all it does is push one sided politics.

Get rid of ‘UP NEXT’!! I keep accidentally hitting that and losing place in article.. The touch controls do not work well on this app. Also this app needs the ability to turn off ‘Shake to leave feedback”. The slightest fart and something pops up asking for me to leave feedback. Super annoying. Plus we can never pickup where we left off in an article. Touch the wrong part of the screen and your taken elsewhere. When you go back to your place in the article it is not saved. EDIT: The touch navigation controls on this app is absolute trash!! Deleted: collects way too much data on people. No thanks

Terrible Update. I used to use the app to keep up with the news and subjects of interest. The new update makes that process exceptionally more convoluted. Too much clicking around to find what you want. Additionally, it has a terrible new feature, “contextual search” I think it’s called, where if the reader does anything other than swipe fast, a word is highlighted and a pop up comes up, disrupting the reading, to tell you more about the work, and you cannot tap it away. It just highlights another word. Very sad because the previous iteration was wonderful.

Doesn’t link to the article. I had this issue when the App first came out, where I’d click “continue reading in App” and it would take me to the Store to open it and then it just opens to a generic page….The article nowhere to be seen. This seemed to correct itself for a while recently, and it was great, but then it went back to the annoying process. I don’t know if a phone update impacted it, or what happened, but I can’t read any of the articles that require you to “continue reading in the app”, which is just about all of them. 😑 Note, this is only an issue in my iPhone but that’s where I do most of my reading. 🫤

Oh No Not Another one!?!?!?. I happily stumbled on the app and was looking forward to downloading and trying it out for a while, at least that was the plan. Unfortunately that plan changed as soon as I began reading some of the many reviews dated here about it. Basically I read this app in its current state with s no fun at all, instead, it’s a big PIA they doesn’t work right. This is not a new problem either which make me want to scream “WHERE IS IT”? How could you ignore your app, she is crying out for you so please, give her a little attention, she deserves it, and you know that. Please....all I ask is will you please just fix her! please........and thank you.

Great news feed!. I never really read the news before I got to college and got an iPhone but now it's part of my routine and this app is easily the best option I've tried. I can customize what I want to see and the standard feed is great. Linking stuff works well but it is slow sometimes. Microsoft news and their bing app are top notch on iOS and I will continue using them

WHY did you make a good thing awful?. Have used this app for quite some time. It had been my “go to” news source. But I truly hate the new version of this app. It is slow to get open because of the artsy multi-language little graphic piece at the start. And it does not glow easily as before. News is not updated as much I’ve tried it several days and hate it. So sorry to dump it from my home screen but it’s gone ! I’ve tried a couple other news apps and am going to use them from now on.

Left opinions does not make it news.. So slanted. Seems like every article has something to do with Trump. And most of it is silly and insignificant news about Trump. They even have a fact checking page. You guessed it it's 99% fact checking every little thing that comes out of Trumps thumbs or mouth. Where was this fact checking when Obama, or Bush in office? This is not a news site any more. It's a gossip column with no facts or twisted facts. They have a agenda against Trump and it plainly shows. If you want just the news and not a opinion, well I don't know where to find just news anymore. It's sad.

Comments versus Articles. Being able to make comments after reading an article is a good attribute to Start. However. the articles published break the rules or guide lines you employ allowing a comment to be published. Character assassination is inappropriate when responding to a comment. But factual information which can be damning should be allowed. Questioning opinions should be allowed.

Microsoft Start Rewards is a joke. Time for Microsoft to get serious. Theirs receipt rewards program is a joke. They need to accept the fact that their program is garbage next to the app Fetch and even inferior CoinOut. One major failing is if you scan a receipt and Microsoft doesn’t like it, they freeze your account so you can’t get rewards and then they run a disclaimer saying it could take 90 days to clear. Like most things out of Microsoft, the end user is their text environment.

Microsoft Deals - Receipts. If you are downloading this app to scan your receipts, you’ll be very disappointed. You can only scan paper receipts (because Microsoft has a personal vendetta against trees), and even those don’t get accepted. I have had several receipts that were incorrect and many more that the app would refuse to even submit because it said that altered or electronic receipts are not accepted. Well, apparently regular printed receipts aren’t accepted either. As for the rest of the app, it’s generic and offers essentially the same thing as many other apps/websites.

Limited offline capability, unfortunately.. This is my go-to news app on different platforms, but I am not sure that the news layout is an improvement (less news per screen real estate, more/bigger photos instead of information). The most frustrating bit, though, is the poor offline capability: It is not clear which articles are available offline and it tends to lose the cache if you close the app (instead of purging as time goes by)

Recent UI changes !!bad!!. Removing easy access to major categories like “For You”, “World”, and “Top Stories” has crippled the Start app as a news feed. A news feed does not need a camera jump button in place of access to news. Copilot, maybe you can use it to suggest news stories? Instead of a button to just take you to news stories? You also have easy access to Apps, so instead of *news stories* you can quickly get to Math Solver. The update takes this app out of the category of news feeds. Other priorities (apps, Copilot) have been put in place instead. Workaround: To get to news now, start at Home, scroll down for a story in your desired category, and click the category name (e.g., “World”) above the story. DO NOT use the back arrow more than once after reading each story; a second click puts you back at the top of the list.

Social additions and too many ads interfere with otherwise good app.. The social manipulation to increase polarization needs to be customizable so it can be turned off. Until then, app is a no-go for me (bah-bye). It didn’t used to be so obvious as a click bait news aggregator. The ads are sneakily integrated with the stories. As a result, I don’t trust the stories until I make sure they aren’t an ad, which slows down the news reading process. This becomes a problem for me because there is no ad-free version. Another no-go (bah-bye again).

Illegally collected geolocation data with proof. As of January 4th 2022 the Microsoft News app whatever language or region that is adjusted started to post Chinese news even though geolocation permissions were not permitted ( language was adjusted to English and region United States). Our trust to the Microsoft Corporation from here on can not continue anymore. I suggest everyone to be extremely careful and start looking elsewhere for non geolocation forced news and of course those who think just because Microsoft issued documents informing that they would not collect data have openly violated that trust. Be aware , be warned.
