Love Ground News but the redesign broke everything!. I love Ground News - it’s my go-to source for news every day. It’s the only place I trust to see media bias and get the full picture on each headline. But the redesign completely broke the “Read Full Article” feature! For some reason, every single source for every headline only actually points to one source. For example, every single source redirects to “Raw Story” for an article about Trump and classified records today. When I click CNN? Raw Story. Washington Examiner? Raw Story. It’s the same for every headline! Not all of them point to Raw Story - for each headline it’s a different one, but I can’t actually open the full articles except one. Also, minor bug, but it takes several views of the notifications page (accessed by the bell button in the upper left hand corner) to actually clear out notifications and mark them as read. I’m OCD about clearing my notifications badges so this has become super irritating. I’m not a HUGE fan of the aesthetics of the redesign either. I preferred the old design. That being said, I will get used to it if the bugs are fixed. Please fix this app!! I need my news back!! Ground News is such a fundamental part of how I engage with the news cycle and it’s been so frustrating to use since the update.

Fair and Balanced. Ground News offers a perspective on the news that I've found nowhere else -- it shares with readers how today's news stories are presented (or not) by a wide range of news sources across the political spectrum. Ground News doesn't take sides or promote a perspective, but it gives insight into biases, intentional or not, from a wide and global range of news providers. It gives me an understanding of how information is presented to the public -- and that's new in itself.

The best source for news, period.. I recently heard about Ground News and was blown away when I checked it out. To my knowledge there is no other news site like it. It is incredibly impressive. Being able to customize my news feed for the news topics I care about and then to get notifications when articles from any of over 50,000 news sources from around the world publish articles on those topics - and to be able to check the bias and factuality of those particular journalistic sources at a glance, just wow. Well worth the small price for a premium subscription for anyone who wants to stay informed and who also wants to know the integrity of the news sources they read. Kudos to everyone on the Ground News team and to the software engineers who make it happen!

Just a new way to attempt pushing the left wing narrative more to the center.. I had high hopes this would be a fair site, but whenever I see most publications from the left being said as “highly factual” and most from the right being labeled low or mixed factuality I saw the picture. Also there is a bunch of left wing news articles reading as center bias. I see a “center bias” news article labeled as highly factual and then denies 2020 election interference. That is not “highly factual” as they cannot prove this as a fact, and also don’t take into account the fact the Russian collusion story was a hoax of FBI lying to a FISA court to spy on a presidential candidate, or FBI clear violation of 1A in collusion with social media to prevent a Trump presidency and even suppress a factual news article from a 100 year old newspaper. These happen to support actual factual interference in 2020 election and to deny these facts with labels of “highly factual” stories is a joke. Now after saying all that, if you completely disregard their bias and factuality ratings there is a useful way to use this service. It has a huge collection of articles from different sources that can be valuable to compare and easy to find, but you absolutely must disregard the actual fact that their factuality rating is completely nonsense.

The Future of Online News Content. I love this app. In many ways we are still in the 19th century when it comes to the media industry even though the medium for consumption has changed. Having to listen to one persons opinion on something who pretends to be unbiased and works for a corporation which has a vested interest in outcomes social and political outcomes is utterly boring and exhausting. This app is fantastic and absolutely worth the monthly subscription price of only 83 cents a month. Thank you so much, this makes consuming world news enjoyable and interesting again. My only suggestion is to keep adding more news sources across the political spectrum to bring even greater variety of perspective. Any thoughts on this format in a nightly news program?

Love the App. This website is everything and has everything! I love it so much and the developers that work behind it are very responsive and helpful. I wouldn't use any other news app.

Consolidation of sources. This app does one thing very well, it takes basically every source and, using third party media bias charts (3 of them which can be found into he settings), separates the sources into 1 of 7 categories, from far left to far right. The media bias charts have their own unbiased methodology, so if someone does not like where their preferred news source is located, it’s probably time to start using another source. Do not be an idiot and complain that “FoX nEwS iS nOt RiGhT.” Of course Fox News is a right source, how partisan does one have to be to not realize that. The media bias charts are great and have really shown me that some of the sources I would dip into, I no longer want to use (ex: MSNBC). The app needs some UI improvements taken from an app like Brief (another great unbiased app), but other than that the idea of Ground News is fantastic.

Interesting but poorly executed. A news aggregator that rates bias is an interesting idea and I was really excited to see an assortment of stories and how the coverage differs. However, within 30’ of installing and only trying a few stories I am deleting the app due to absurd execution. Unlike other news aggregators that I’ve used, this loads each publisher’s individual Web pages. This is a problem because of constant pop ups, cookies, requests for subscriptions, ads, intrusive videos, and everything else we HATE about browsing the Internet. Why would I subject myself to so much crap just to see how different biases are expressed? Nope, I’m out. Clear out all that garbage and maybe I’ll reinstall. Stop using icons instead of names for news sources and maybe I’ll even pay. As it stands now, it’s an interesting idea, poorly executed, and not worth your $1/mo. or even your time.

Now if only there was an economic incentive. Fantastic concept, as soon as I heard this existed I immediately downloaded and subscribed. People make more sense when you see the bubble they’re living in. The only way to change your worldview is to burst your own bubble. It’s not fun, not easy, but it’s necessary, and I’ll sign up to have my bubble burst any day. Unfortunately, and I hope I’m wrong, but my faith in humanity is such that I don’t actually think people will be willing to sign up to have their bubble burst. People want to take comfort in having what they already believe reaffirmed. It feels too good to be right and it’s too easy to think you’re right. Letting people live in their bubble, and inflating their bubble, that’s where the money’s at. Social media giants (or their AI algorithms) understand that. I wish ground news the best of luck and I’ll try to get as many people as I can to subscribe.

Interesting app to help you see your bubble. Update Feb 2022: The app got a major overhaul. Cool features to analyze your social feeds to see what kind of bias you’re seeing and more importantly the comments seem to be gone at my first glance. Raising my review. I’ll use the app more for a while and maybe give it a final rating. The app is well designed and easy to use. Getting an overview of how the news headlines are rated doesn’t take long since it’s pretty intuitive. I’ve added this to my regular news routine and might move to a subscription plan if it continues that way. The comments in the app are almost entirely right wing and certainly an echo chamber. Honestly this makes me skeptical of the app itself if the user base is heavily skewed to one end of the political spectrum. I know you can turn off the comments but I wonder why they even exist. The slanted nature hurts the trustworthiness of the brand. UPDATE: The comments are a 1 sided conservative cesspool that add no value. The app’s basis seems sound, but until they disable comments I would not recommend it and will not subscribe. The fact they permit that makes me question their motive.

I Can Not Thank You Enough Ground News!!. Firstly since I know these first lines will definitely be seen more, DOWNLOAD THIS APP!!! With all the tension throughout the world that has been linearly increasing at dramatic rates as of recent, I as well as many others understand just how difficult it is to find any trustworthy, truthful media sources out there and have spent so many hours of my life’s just trying to find news sources that would report without biases. Ground News, you have single handily solved this massive issue with biased media by providing your users with not only their right to gain factual knowledge, but also their right to choose for themselves, bravo👏🏼👏🏼. I really cannot applaud the whole team behind ‘Ground News’ enough, thank you for having morals and representing what journalism truly looks like! THIS SHOULD BE THE INDUSTRY STANDARD I would like to say you guys have helped restore some faith in humanity for me, but because of your app I now know WWIII is basically in full effect😂🤣(only laughing because i’m not sure this much else to do besides that at this point).

False balance is not “fairness”. This app is causing harm.. Ground News publishes fake news on a daily basis, labeled as a “left-wing blind spots”. The headlines and summaries on these stories are AI-generated based on the articles being collated, so they are only as good as the source material, which is often bad. Notably, I have seen and reported several stories about the LGBTQ+ community, that Ground picked from sources that it labels “Low” or “Mixed” factuality. These are tagged as “blind spots” for the left, rather than the outright lies that they are. Queer people are already under attack, and amplifying fake news about us is not helping at all. I’ve been cataloging the “blind spots” that Ground publishes. In the past week, I’ve captured approximately 100 stories from the left and 100 from the right. Stories that are labeled as “left blind spots” (stories where the coverage skews strongly to the right) tend to have significantly worse sourcing than stories labeled “right blind spots”, per Ground’s own factuality labeling. Right-leaning stories this week have had an average of 3.7 high-factuality sources, 8.7 mixed-factuality, and 3.6 low-factuality. Left-leaning stories had an average of 12 high-fact sources, 4.9 mixed-fact, and 0.3 low-fact. This leads me to believe that Ground is promoting “false balance”, giving equal weight to both sides of issues that actually don’t have two sides. In other words, they are promoting fake news.

Automatically Shares Email with Newsites. The app overall was pretty meh. It appeared to make an attempt at providing insight, but I have my doubts. I signed up for a premium account, and despite that they were still sharing my email address with the newsites I visited. This is obvious because I started getting email from a bunch of random news sites I'd only ever heard of through their app. The app may very well have warned me, but if I'm paying, I don't want to horse around with something like that.

Great!. I think this is a fantastic app! I does a great job of showing biases in media, which I think is so very important to know. I would absolutly recomend this.

Does what it says. I used to try to read a balanced selection of news sources on both sides of the ideological spectrum, but it got harder and harder to weed out sources of frequent misinformation. Ground makes it significantly easier to see what different Americans are receiving in their information diet. It surfaces news items that I definitely would not have seen otherwise, and it even makes it pretty obvious when a news item is planted from propaganda sources. The other thing I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t encourage doom scrolling. Each article has a quick summary at the top, and once you’ve looked at the major stories and their summaries, you’re pretty much fully informed about today’s news. Oh, there’s also no social aspect to the product. There aren’t any comments or any way to debate the stories. Folks can’t weigh in on the news. It’s pure news, not an editorial system pretending to be news.

Version 4.0.1 redesign was a mistake. Just got Ground a few weeks ago and started paying for the highest tier the same day. I was very glad to find an aggregate of important news composed of different sources from across the political spectrum, and was transparent on where it’s sources lied on the spectrum. That hasn’t changed with this update, but man does the app look gross now, and it makes things look more confusing. In the previous update it was simple: flat color background (it was black to me but that could just be because I have dark mode on for my phone) with red for conservative, gray for center, and blue for liberal sources. Clean and easy to see. Now it’s a weird light colored gray for the background and a beige highlight. The color for the biases are the same, but now they feel the need to add a gradient to the colors so it just looks like a giant gray bar with some red mixed on the right and some blue mixed on the left. I get that the point is to show an intensity in bias, like the more solid the color the stronger the bias is. However it looks ugly, and I much prefer the old view to the new one. I appreciate what they were going for, but wish they had kept it simple. Please fix, or at least give us the option to switch back to the old color pallet if we want to.

My recommendation for gathering your news. I’ve been using the app for a while now and I can say that the service this team provides is great. I worry about being trapped in my own information bubble on the internet, getting sources and articles curated to appeal to my interests and biases in how they are told. This app helps prevent me from getting stuck in such a bubble! The comparison ability is not a first among news services, however Ground News does it very well and I additionally appreciate the ability to see how much a side of the political spectrum reports on a story, which shows the level of importance an issue is to a side or if the story itself may be told in a twisted way. I eventually paid to get the Pro version of the app to support this service. The small team personally reached out to thank me and told me to contact them for any recommendations on how to improve the app. That level of involvement was extremely nice to see. I agree with some others that the comment section of the app isn’t really needed, I personally ignore it. I feel this app’s purpose doesn’t really mesh well with the commenting feature. Though Ground News makes this feature easy to ignore if you wish, yet accessible if you would like to contribute to it. Overall I really enjoy this service, haven’t had any problems with it software wise, and would recommend supporting the team if you enjoy it too by subscribing to one of the paid models, since they’re so cheap.

A tool for seeing both sides. I have been using this as my primary news source for over a year. I value the ability to see multiple sides of a story including photos and videos relevant t the topic. I am still getting used to the new update. It definitely feels less clunky and much smoother to navigate, however, it is a real shame to see that the comments section has been removed in the new update. It was a largely unmoderated place (save a strict filter for inappropriate words) where people could speak their mind on topics. I greatly value the ability to see and discuss different perspectives . With that comes some toxicity, but that is anywhere people speak and people were free to turn it off or mute if they didn’t like it. It was so popular that many topics seemed to be exceeding the amount of space GN allotted for comments. I am very sad to see that instead of expanding it, they chose to shut it down. America is suppose to be a place where free speech is protected yet corporations continue to impede that ability more and more. There are so few venues to discus perspectives and challenge ideas because corporations continue to strangle out discussions and information that they do not like. I am not happy that Ground News chose to destroy their free speech platform (however small it was) which closed down one more venue that allowed the discussion of current events and perspectives.

SYNC MY TOPICS BETWEEN OSX AND IOS APP PLEASE. Great app

Informative, reliable, and user friendly. Ground news is a great app and the subscription is well worth it - a modest annual fee for access to personalized recommendations, information about biases and factuality, and the ability to easily navigate between multiple similar articles to compare and contrast the information you see. In this age of social media being most peoples’ news source (myself included, until I downloaded this app) it’s hard to take anything at face value - there’s so many ways information can be left out or even simple word choices can affect how you respond to a headline. Ground news does a great job of giving you the information to consider articles critically and feel confident in the information you’re consuming.

Awful reading experience. iPhone annual subscription experience: The rapid inclusion and selection of sources is really good, but— much of the time you will meet a paywall instead of an article, especially with many of the major sources. In hindsight it’s to be expected, but nonetheless without subscriptions to NYT, WP, WSJ and many others you’re left with a very different landscape including too many niche and sloppy sources. If you have subscriptions to the major news gatherers, why also this app?- If to deep dive into one subject at a time, or for news junkies to uncover yet more, okay. This is what I originally wrote: And way too many of the “free” sources are over the top with parallax and pop-up ads and the reading experience is an awful mess. Ground responded to my review, pointing out two very helpful features, which is why I added more stars: “We recently created an external browser that gives our readers a better news reading experience. To use this feature, click on the golden icon in the top right corner of an article. It makes for a less choppy news reading experience for articles that are inundated with unfortunate pop ups. Additionally, as a Ground News subscriber, whenever you open the newsroom to see the full range of sources reporting on a story, you can select “Sort & Filter” and remove paywall sources from that collection of stories. I hope this improves your experience.”

Context is EVERYTHING and this app shines a clear light on it!. I love this approach to news. I've come to realize every news source has (a) its bias, and (b) its level of commitment to journalistic factuality. This context is EVERYTHING, and this app visually provides the contextual lens through which each news article is written. For each news story, you get to see the spread of news sources covering it, and then diving in, how each one choses to tell the story. Even the difference in headlines is telling and revealing. HIGHLY useful to anyone really wanting to understand the world.

Great News Aggregate, Toxic Community. I’ve loved Ground News for a long time now, and have really appreciated the work that they’ve put into showing all sides and biases. Unfortunately, this seems to have attracted a community of toxic hyper partisanship where users just see their side as “telling it as it is”, the center as “watering down the truth”, and the opposite side as the “MSM lies”. The comment section has gotten so out of control that I had to turn it off. Even then, I can’t feel good about funding a forum where people get “thumbs’d up” for insulting and making conspiracy theories about the capitol police officers who committed suicide (my last straw). These are the same people who’ve driven any semblance of moderacy away from the community and drag Ground News down like an anchor. Again, I really do appreciate what the creators of the app have put together, but I just don’t want to fund the toxic environment that it hosts.

Absolutely Essential App (Love the Update!!). We need to see the story from all sides, when possible. This is an excellent app to do just that! So many sources are used to cover a wide varitey of topics and show the biases on each story. Very cool app!! The newest update makes it much more similar to the iPhone app. I highly recommend this app to anyone looking to see the bigger picture!!

Great app, want to give them my money, but…. Their built in browser has some kind of issue on iOS where the videos playing on some sites force themselves into full screen, repeatedly, making it impossible to view or interact with the article. This is is compounded by their browser allowing videos to autoplay and seemingly no setting available to disable that. If I could use this app without getting stuck in full screen videos (sometimes from the news outlet, sometimes an ad), they’d get my subscription dollars easily. I like how the news is collated and the information on bias and factuality (esp. since you can disagree with Ground’s bias rating and set your own, if I recall). I just don’t like being bombarded with autoplay videos.

Suggestions. 1 - The new format is too convoluted. It takes too many screens to get to the actual story and even more to get back out. Readers should be able to go directly back to the main headline feed and/or the source page after reading an individual article. 2 - headline feed needs a “return to top” option. Nobody wants to scroll back to the top from several pages down. 3 - on the headline feed, chopping off the top of photos is so unbelievably annoying. You may think it’s a clever disguise to maximize clicks, but it is a psychological irritant. As a retired human interface quality expert, i suggest you shrink the photo and display the whole photo to the left with the headline and the source list to the right. Allow readers to choose at the headline where they want to land on the political spectrum and let them go directly to the desired source. You can put the source spectrum at the bottom of each article so readers can jump to the next source when they are finished reading. 4 - you need a ‘return’ to headlines’ button at the top and bottom of each full article. I am a retired engineer. Therefore I feel justified in making these criticisms. I am also a woman who was forced to retire because of discrimination against women in my profession. It pains me that a woman developed news aggregation site (such a great idea) is so poorly designed that it actually drives readers away.

does not work. safari plugin does not work. does not show website rankings. the dowenload has a seperate app that never loads its contents- blank screen. useless.

Best news app for people who think for themselves!. I don’t write many reviews but when an app is good enough to put an end to years of searching, the developers deserve the praise. I have tried many news apps and been dissatisfied with them all until Ground News. Not only does it do an excellent job of aggregating the news, but it provides a very intuitive and clean way to compare multiple sources. I also love the ad-free reader. This app is perfect for users who don’t like being spoon fed news from only one angle. If you like to think for yourself and don’t want to fall prey to spin and manipulation, this is the perfect solution. The Blind Spot is a great addition that helps fulfill the apps mission and my search to educate myself on news events without falling prey to confirmation bias. I have chosen to pay for this app both because it is truly worth it and because I want to ensure the developers are encouraged to keep up the good work. I truly hope that many more find this app and that it can help many to be able to think for themselves and see through bias in these increasingly divisive times.

Delivers Cool Bias Coverage, But Doesn’t Actually Deliver News. The stories pushed by Grounded have all the bells and whistles it promises, including headlines from across the political spectrum and references to outlet’s expected factuality. However, the app follows the same exact feed of stories that populate cable news, which is to say, most of the content I am show is not news but infotaiment. “Woman sees toddler walking on the highway” is not news, it’s entertainment for the morbidly curious. It affects no one’s life and is merely an oddity to grab attention. Actual news is useful information that describes events that effect the country/city/community/me. How are my tax dollars being spent right now? What is the state of the jobs market? What cities in the country are changing, and how? I’d settle for fluctuations of the price of corn and wheat! Just give me something with meaning, something that helps me look at society with a little more clarity. I want NEWS, not reality television.

Best News App I’ve Used In A Long Time. I don’t usually write reviews for apps, but I absolutely love this app! As a high school social studies teacher who teaches Government, American History, and Media Literacy, this app helps me better stay informed about the main news stories of the day. I love the bias feature that allows average news consumer to figure how how a particular story is being covered by the polarized media outlets. It even links right to the actual news stories within the app, so you don’t have to switch/close out an app to read a story. Seriously, for the average news consumer, the paid subscription of $9.99/year is well worth the money. I’m hoping to show this app to my students to help them understand the importance of getting your news from more than one source!

If you can suffer through MSM this is the app for you!. I’m an age of Polarization Ground News works hard to make sure that you can gather the facts. In the age of spin harder than a cat 5 tornado Ground News works hard to make sure you can se it before it hits you. Ground News is in incredible opportunity for all to see how the MSM really runs on all sides of the aisle, pushing stories and angles to make you see an agenda and narrative that they want you to believe. Get ahead of it and try to catch all the facts with GN, who carefully curates and categorizes all news outlets by their (American) political bent. It’s a phenomenal tool to help you avoid rash judgments and sound thinking. Seriously give it a try, what do you have to lose?

I hate the news ... BUT ... this was really the only app I have used for keeping up-to-date when I needed to. I wouldn't recommend anything else.

Off the mark. I find the rating system for ‘left, center or right’ off the mark. The app attempts to categorize the slant of news based on the outlet displaying the story instead of its written content, context or original source. Here’s a hypothetical example: A news event is published by network ‘A’ the app categorizes as ‘left’, which creates a left percentage. Then, the identical story is picked up by three local networks which creates an even larger center percentage despite these local affiliates all sourcing the story from network ‘A’. Literally, it’s an identical copy a paste from network ‘A’s news feed. Based on how this app works that story is rated 75% center, 25% left. The factual content didn’t change, nor its context. So, if you are seeking contextually centered content be sure you read the story source header instead of relying on the apps rating of the host site. When you do this you’ll find the majority of all news found here is copy and paste from CNN or the AP.

Variety is the spice of life. A common recommendation for enhancing media literacy is to read a diverse array of perspectives to avoid bias and misinformation. Traditionally this has been difficult because there’s been no centralized place to parse stories from different outlets, with the exception of RSS feeds, internet forums etc. But even in those cases it’s easy to select sources that conform to our biases and preconceived notions. Ground News makes it easy to not just read takes on a topic from multiple sources, it also provides a handy guide for the flavor of perspective you can expect whether that be left, right, or center. And if you disagree with their labels you’re free to submit what you think is a more appropriate selection. This has been a very useful app for wading through an ocean of information. This fact, combined with the responsiveness and customer service of the team makes me wholly comfortable recommending this app to my friends and family.

Ratings are inaccurate, hard to change. Ground news makes an attempt at non-partisan news presentation and ranking—bravo!—but is mostly unsuccessful. Witness the highly inaccurate and non-factual characterization of Florida’s law that prohibits the sexualization of minors. Ground calls “news” sites who call the law “Don’t Say Gay” Center leaning and Factual. This is a clear propaganda term, and couldn’t be further from the truth. A simple reading of the short law shows it is not aimed at any LGBTQ… credo. It is possible to re-rank sites at least for ones self, but heck if I can find it. Please make it easier for us to rerank sites based on such obvious tell tales as this. EDITED: Kudos to Ground for their rapid response. They use independent ratings organizations to assign the bias, to ensure their own biases don’t slant their news. Unfortunately, we have all discovered almost all “fact checkers” primarily obfuscate the facts, and lean heavily left themselves. This is a societal pronoem, and Ground is caught up by it as are we all. I applaud their attempts to deliver news with an attempt at rating. They also told me how to adjust the bias ratings for myself. Thanks for that, Ground! For their efforts and quick response, I added back a star. My finding above stands, however, for my reasons above. I will continue subscribing to Ground, and resort to adjusting the bias scores myself.

Great, but can do without the comments section. I like Ground News a lot, because as a news aggregator it is effective at what it does and the free access isn’t super restrictive. It allows you to do exactly what a news aggregator is supposed to do, allow you to compare, and contrast reporting and track news stories. On top of that it lets user to tailor it to the topics and regions you are most interested in. What I think would make it better is if they did away with the comments section. Taking one look at the toxicity of most comments there, it is distracting and detracts from the positive experience to be had on the app. I know they allow you to turn comments off, but I still strongly think they ought to be removed. The focus should be solely on the news and not people’s two-cents. That’s what social media is for and not a news aggregator.

Infowars is not news.. Including Infowars alongside actual legitimate news sources is a disgrace. It does a disservice to what I thought was the actual mission of Ground News, which is to try to cut through bias and arrive at a view that more closely represents reality. Including conspiracy theory sites that peddle lies and propaganda as presumably legitimate news sources is a travesty and just serves to propagate more disinformation. I have canceled and will not be back.

Good but not great. Lacks features. Let’s hope it gets some help in development in the next year otherwise I won’t be renewing. The app has a lot of promise and it appears that the creators have a vision for the app and how it can help provide news sources to create a more well rounded and informed reader but it’s clunky and in a few ways feels out dated even though it shouldn’t. Managing topics are a chore. Would love to be able to curate my experience a bit more but there simply doesn’t appear to be a way to hide topics from the feed or organize topics. If I want to read about Elon Musk or US politics every time i open it, sure it’s right there but it would be nice to take a break from that every now and then. I’ll probably use it less and less over time. Reviewed on the iPad version.

Making news palatable again. Worked in news for some years and learned to hate it. I worked when there was a new ISIS or mass shooting event almost daily. Stopped following news altogether once I left that gig. I knew that if I wanted the real news, I needed to do legwork and compare articles, sources, find a 3rd party commenter, but i have little desire to do this for every story. This app makes it simple to compare headlines, and even quickly read articles from different leanings of sources. Sometimes just for a laugh from fringe stories, but it helps me quickly get a balanced view that I can dig into with ease. I want the devs to keep thinking and finding new ways to accomplish this, but features like blindspot and personal stats are great starts to making me feel like comprehensively understanding the local and world news stories are a few easy taps away. If you understand anything about the news climate, you’ll see the immediate value in an app like this. In its current state it does still feel like a nice beta, but it’s got the right idea and is on a path toward something not just great, but necessary for navigating online news content.

News Transparency We All Need. We live in a time where information is so easily accessible and events are reported on by so many different sources. However we lack transparency of sources and this app/team seeks to correct this. They seek to show you an event has occurred which is what we actually need to know. They then show you the spread of reports about it while being transparent about the known political leanings of those reporting the event. They also make an effort to show you events that you may not have paid attention to due to your own political leanings. I believe this team has created a wonderful app that establishes a balanced news platform. One in which you can be informed of what’s happening around with transparency of political influence on different sources.

The world DOES need this... From an app that isn't broken.. I'm gonna make this short and sweet. You guys have 10 people on the team and it looks like 9 of you need to give most of your wages to the poor guy or girl that wrote this application on his their own. I get what you're trying to do and I support it completely. However, as an engineer I cannot support this app because, well, basically, it's broken. I wasn't even able to finish my initial testing because I couldn't get passed the very odd window sizing and resizing, and eventually it locked up my system and I now I can gladly say I can recreate the problem quite easily. That's a serious bug, I would go so far as to say that your app probably needs an overhaul from an experienced programmer. If you're interested in some free (for a time) consulting, send me an email. With that saidl.. NEWS ALERT - Your program isn't ready. Fix it and give people what you really want, not this less-than-acceptable excuse for software.

Simply awesome!. Love this news app! The layout is great, the ranking on left/right/center views is great, love the colors (very easy on the eyes). There is a slight annoyance with the alerts tho. I’m order to clear the app badge icon, I need to go into my alerts, close out and go back in for the second time before the alerts clear. I’m one of those who doesn’t like having badge numbers just sitting around, so it’s nice to clear them when I read them. Other than that, I’ll happily pay a small subscription for this beauty. Can’t freaking stand ads that are literally everywhere on all the other news apps out there. Even the ones you pay for still have just as many ads. So stupid.

No share sheets? How!?. The Mac app has incrementally improved, slowly, but one glaring issue remains: you cannot share headline articles using share sheets like you can in the iOS and iPadOS counterparts. It's the #1 reason I have to deduct two stars, because to me, this feature is an essential part of the app.

Please Revert Back or Change Colors All Together. Whatever made you swap the “left” and “right” colors so that the left shows up red and the right shows up blue, please either revert it back or pick new colors all together (not red and blue). It feels like one of those tests where they have a color word displayed in another color (I.e the word purple displayed in green). While I logically know the difference, it feels like an unnecessary complexity. NOTE: updating my rating from 3 stars to 5 for the quick response and solution. Sorry for being a typical American and assuming our purview is the world’s purview 😂 (to be fair though, it had previously shown as US for me, so I wasn’t aware of what caused it to change). Thank you!

I will subscribe if this gets implemented. I would like to express my appreciation for the features your application offers, particularly the ability to compare perspectives across the political spectrum. However, I would like to address an area where the user experience could be enhanced. My preference is to access news content directly through ad-blocking browsers like Brave, which efficiently remove advertisements, providing a cleaner reading experience. While I acknowledge the presence of a reader mode within your app, it does not fully substitute for viewing the original site in its intended format, especially when it comes to visual content. Currently, selecting the option to open a news site externally redirects me to the Ground News site, offering only a summary rather than the full content I seek. This limitation hinders my ability to engage with the news in the most immersive and unobstructed manner possible. I kindly suggest considering an update that allows for direct redirection to the news sites via ad-blocking browsers. This enhancement would significantly improve content accessibility and user satisfaction, aligning with the desires of users who prefer an ad-free browsing experience while engaging with news articles and their accompanying visual elements. Your consideration of this feedback would be greatly valued, as it would elevate the overall utility and appeal of your application.

Helpful Developer Response. This is an updated and revised review which I feel is appropriate following a very informative genuine response from the developer. My original review complained of annoying ads in linked third party articles rendering many of them unreadable or sometimes being directed to articles that were behind a paywall. I noted in that review that these ad problems are in no way unique to Ground News and that Ground News app itself is an ad-free experience but that I felt it hampered the reader experience. The developer replied with a genuine and sympathetic response but clarified some additional things including the fact that they do not in any way profit from popups. I learned from the developer that there are ways of filtering and adjusting your feed so that paywall articles can be screened. Also, the developer indicates that an external browser function is available to better deal with pop ups and such like. I’ll be trying out these features and settings but overall I am very satisfied with what Ground News does, how it helps when it comes to news biases and the sheer breadth of content. It is clearly highly customizable - perhaps in a way that I didn’t fully understand at first. And of course, any developer who takes the time to reach out personally to address a concern is serious about doing the right thing and their product.

Too much clutter. The Safari extension clutters the browser making it unattractive, and somewhat unintuitive to navigate. Clicking on the extenition would be much more useful if it opened a drop-down window with a dashboard and resources.

Ground News is absolutely Fantastic!!. Great News App! If you want to stay informed on current affairs, you could download every single news outlet's app. But that would be a lot of work. Instead, make it easier on yourself and download Ground News Pro. Ground New Pro collects articles from a large pool of sources, and incorporates different types of reporting, so not everything comes from the New York Times or a local news station. It tells you if the source leans left, right, or center. It learns from your reading style and directs more articles from your choices to you. Great news from all over. International to domestic. If you really only want updates from your regional newspaper, go ahead and download that dedicated app. But for news stories from around the world and across topics including entertainment, science, tech, politics, and beyond, get Ground News Pro. You won’t be disappointed.

The way news should be. My initial review of this was based on the idea that even though this app fulfils a need and dream I’ve had for awhile, it had some bugs and inconsistencies. But since my first review I’ve seen updates that have addressed most of the issues. This is indeed a good team of devs that are actively listening to their community. Normally I don’t bother looking at all the sources for every piece of news because it’s too time consuming. I just try to get a general idea without taking on too much bias, but despite my best efforts I’m sure I’ll take on the point of view of the first few articles which are being fed to me via some personalised algorithm. This app fixes that, not only can I get a clearer idea of the biases, I can also compare each side or location and get even more information.

Great App! Great Developer Support!. This app is amazing. Being able to scroll through the bias, location, and timing of a news story adds an incredible amount of context. The sources are truly international, and inline translation works well. I am now significantly more informed about how the world is seeing events unfold. This is something that google news, apple news, or any of the other aggregators do not give. Furthermore, the developer support is REAL, and it is handled quickly and correctly by one of the co-founders. I had an edge case issue where my second device created a dummy account and I used a different email for my subscriptions. The developer wrote back the same day multiple times and we were able to resolve the issue. Bam! I am a huge fan. Well worth the year subscription. Give the free trial a go, and you’ll be hooked.

Awesome idea. My favourite news app! The layout is really great, I’d love for the list view in the top right hand corner to be made more obvious, though.

Awesome. This app has made it so much easier to find news that I’m interested in, and the collation of multiple articles helps me gain a broader understanding of the issues.

Great service. Really good to see a comparison and slant of various news sources. Keep up the good work!

A constant pleasure to use. When was the last time that reading the news reliably made you feel better instead of angry? Ground News gives you the key facts first, then it invites you to see the breadth of perspectives and a summary of each. Then if you want more details, you can click through. This is just everything you’d want from reading the news. Local news: done Your personal interests: done Global perspectives: done What the other side is talking about: done If everyone used this, society would just be better. Reading GroundNews probably lowers your risk of heart attack (not medical advice).

Great idea, but app feels cluttered. The app is a great idea, but the UI is much too cluttered; hard to focus on any one story, and the touch targets are not big enough a lot of the time (find myself hitting buttons I don’t intend to, etc.).

Ground News gives you news and an outline of the biases that the reports are influenced by. This app does stand for a noble cause. Tried it out myself just to see if it was legit, and I suppose it is. I do however, think that a laying out of the frameworks of reasoning, biases, etc would be helpful too, like, as a hypothetical example, “Trump is great, and we’re taking this persons word for it for some reason!”, although I don’t know where that’d be listed.

Best news app. Great price plus wide selection of news sources equals good value. Strongly recommended.

Same price, less features. I was an early subscriber. Same price, they have now removed some of the features and added a more expensive subscription.

Pop up videos.. The pop up videos are extremely annoying as they keep appearing even when not clicking to select them

Australia Maybe????. Hey, maybe could you also assess Australian news too? Thanks

Great app. Love this news app. Provides all the news from all the sources like ABC, 9 News, Guardian, BBC etc. It is free and best doesn’t have any ads!

Perfect if you are looking for Independent News feeds. A great service that allows allows me to access critical information from a central portal and also understand any likely bias, factuality and validity of the source. Also great customer service with a quick and effective response to my service ticket. With all that is going on in the world, this app is more important today than ever - especially given the lack of independent journalistic professionalism and the corrupting influence of global leaders and corporates who thought that George Orwell's novel "1984" was a documentary or a global leadership " How To" guide book" A must have App for people who consider themselves as critical and rational thinkers.

No comment section!!. That was my favourite part! It’s totally gone!

Ads keep shifting content around the screen. Try to read an article to see if it’s something I want to subscribe to. Every few seconds the content shifts the place I’m reading off the screen and replaces it with an advert. App deleted.

Part of the reason. Just another aggregator

Such a great idea!!. This is a great app, easy to use, and a bit addictive! Highly recommended 👌🏻

Great App. Love it’s simplicity and power to identify bias. Fast becoming a favourite.

Can do Better. Idea is great- it here in Australia Needs Work

Very good presentation but no Australian content to speak of.. While I appreciate the effort to give a broad coverage, it lacks local relevance to me in Australia

Brilliant& really needed. Thank you for this. It's exactly what is needed these days and if it continues to work as it has been, it can only become the only necessary news service. I don't usually pay for my news service but after hearing about you and then seeing it, I immediately signed up for a basic subscription. I'm on a pension, so every dollar is accounted for, but I found a way to support this worthy new service. Thank you again.

Refreshing change. Well done. We can all use something like this to help assess the news and the slants and angles attached to it I’ll be recommending it to friends and foe alike Keep up the good work

The best news app I’ve ever used.. Says it all in the title.

Couldn’t log in. Tried several times to log in. Gave up and deleted it in the end. Sad as it looks like a great concept

Amazing. I absolutely love ground news, I was between jobs so had to end my subscription for a while and they actually reached out to me and gave me 2 months of premium for free so I could still have access to all the features during a tough time they are absolutely amazing

Amazing one stop app for all my news updates. Love the bias filters

Fantastic. This app is amazing. I consider myself a bit of a centrist and this app is amazing to see what both sides of the political spectrum are promoting or hiding.

Brilliant!. This is so great to see biases on n reporting by collating different sources of a news story and easily seeing how different outlets focus on different elements of a story, sorted by third party political bias rankings. And the blind spot feature highlights news stories that are being underreported by one side. If you like to be informed across the political spectrum, or just see what those nasty people who vote the other way are up to, this really is a brilliant and feature rich tool!

❤️. It’s the best app ever. I love it 🔥💯

Great apppp. I love using the map. Such a creative unique way for digital readers to get hold of newss. Thank You

Great Idea. I was looking for this for a long time. I realised how important it is for the public to have access different news sources with a knowledge of what level of political bias. This helps them to form their own perspective. Thank you!

Very easy to subscribe, not so easy to unsubscribe. I downloaded the app some months ago. After looking all around, I find out that it was just not for me. No the kind of news I was interested in. I uninstalled the application. It’s very, very easy to subscribe. No need to search, in every page you will found 2, 3 even 4 places to do so. After close to 3 months, without the app, I still received their mails, regularly, like a clock, they don’t missed to send you one. The first time I received it, I go at the end of the page, spot the “unsubscribe” link. Where it bring you to a page where No place to unsubscribe. But to subscribe, there’s plenty of link. I write and write, over and over again, begging them to tell me the step to unsubscribe to what I consider now to be a junk mail. Still no answer. Do yourself a a favor, found a news app who’s honest. Period.

Best news app!. Ground fills me in on the news I need to go, on the go. I love how it’s relevant to my interests, and confirms everything is real. Totally converted me from getting all my news from twitter :)

Janky. No way to turn off the bell alert icons number AND having to manually delete each one at a time.... 🙄👎👎 Cancelled my sub, this app is not worth the price

A great way to stay informed while also staying unbiased. I like the local news

Great news content. It’s so hard to trust what you read via social media platforms. Ground is on point with its content on top of an amazing user experience.

Less political bias, more corporate bias. This app could use a compass realignment. Instead of focussing on the individual political silos, there should be a focus on the impact that advertising and corporate ownership has on news sources. There should be an “unbiased” category and one that highlights media sources that don’t rely on advertising or corporate money. The real issue with our news sources is money, not political bias. Political bias is the result of a corrupted system.

Amazing news feed. I studied in political science and philosophy and i approve this message. Long live the information king! Hurray! Hurray!

Why the influx in ads?. Auto launching vids repeatedly (presumably by the source vs aggregator) has left me feeling forced out of control, time to delete.

One of the most important and useful apps im existence.. Such an improtant service..and great UI too. I am proud to pay for their premium service, and have told all my friends about it.

Country-specific version?. I live in Canada, so I would love a way to Canadian-ize the app. We don’t have nearly the volume of news agencies as in the U.S., but we have some that are left and some that are right leaning. It would be nice to have the option to localize the app to Canada, the States and possibly the World. Is this something that you would consider for a future version?

New update. New format isn’t nearly as good as the previous one. I’ll most likely delete the app if it stays the same

Finally an app where you can easily identify bias. I came across ground news through a colleague of mine. Allows you to: - compare news from different sources in an easy swipe motion - identify news source bias but more importantly, helps identify your own bias - cool features like choosing the type of news for your feed, save articles and well developed search mechanisms I had thought about creating something similar to this in the past but never spent the effort to do it. I'm really glad you did :) Thank you for making this app !

Not a serious app. This app is not showing the real far-right nor the real far-left. It’s a good thing, but the far left and far right are regular leftists and right wingers.

Great way to show all sides of the story. Works really well

What the media industry needs. Have been using the app to stay informed on the COVID19 pandemic. Has kept me better informed than other news companies. Love the mission and find the bias rating feature interesting, not something I’ve seen before but I’m glad someone did it!

Top Stories as the wrong approach. Interesting idea, yet there should be a place when I can see "my top stories" based on the content of what I'm following, without having to manually select each one. Other content agregator have the save issue. Please give me some top stories of my content and let go of the rest. I don't need no Biden and Trump news :)

Very useful app for news. I really like the follow feature that allows you to keep up to date with updates on certain new stories. I also like how you can see the different news sources that cover the story.

News on a map. It’s great panning around the map and seeing whats going on around the world. There is a list mode as well, but the map is where it’s at.

Thought this looked like a good idea. Loaded the app after hearing the creators being interviewed on the radio. Looked at it a few times but found the interface way too crowded and confusing to decipher every time I just wanted to read about an event. For some unknown reason it spontaneously started issuing notifications so I opened and noticed they are rating the CBC and PBS as centrist news sources... um no they are pretty far left. Don’t trust this app any more, deleted it.

Good app but it doesn’t recognise my Premium subscription. It’s a good news app but it doesn’t let me use the blindspot feature even though I’ve paid for my premium subscription. It is still asking me to get premium

Information Overload. While the identification of bias in news articles is great, there seems to be no way to filter news stories. Every time I open the app I am inundated by news from all over the place and on all kinds of topics, which makes finding important news difficult. Clicking on article doesn’t open the story from the source attributed to it, but opens a Ground News summary. If I am a careful news consumer, why would I want a third party telling me what’s in a story? I think I just don’t get it.

Great. In the past I had a dozen or so news apps on my phone so I could get a broader perspective on coverage, now I have one. Ground news allows quick and easy access to all + more. The new bias feature is ok I guess. I tend to prefer to gauge my on bias as every author is different. The map feature is excellent to glean local coverage of stories you’re interested in.

Full of Misleading Information. I can’t believe if without saw it by myself that in Ground News, the Chinese state-owned propaganda tools like CGTN, People’s Daily, Global Times, and Russia’s state-owned propaganda tool like Russia Today (RT) are positioned as “centre”. Really doubt if this app is actually backed by China and/or Russia government.

Love the app!. A phenomenal interface and idea. This will be how I read all my news going forward because of the ability to browse the map and customize for the content I want!

Big fan of the app before. Removing the comments section is a big move backwards to what the original vision of the app represented; to provide a platform free of adulterated news, creating a well informed and critical community. Removing the comments from the platform to discuss the content from mainstream media implies that the information they provide is factual and requires no public scrutiny. There is no time more crucial than now to create and maintain platforms where people can openly discuss their thoughts. Ground News needs to take a step back and reassess if they want to join the model of the failing media or be part of the change the public and their customers are demanding. GN has a great opportunity here, I hope they make the right call before I cancel my subscription and support someone that will.

Pro is amazing!!. Love the new update ❤️💙

Great App but Mainly US Focused. Great concept but kinda frustrating that you can only choose between US and international news. You should be able to choose between other countries, I’m Canadian and want an app like this but focused on Canadian news.

Great app!. Love checking the news using the map.

Needs iPhone landscape support for aging eyes. Paid subscriber. As an aging Gen-X I have resorted to landscape format with both the google/apple versions of the app. May you add landscape mode support? Most news are uncomfortable to read in portrait mode now, even with pinch zoom. I realize most QA testers may overlook the aging eyes factor.

Transparent. I really like the interface, and the transparency this platform offers, not a publisher but a platform that provides perspectives from several different sources. It's a really great idea, the company is focusing on a huge issue we are experiencing with misinformation.

A good concept - needs work. I like the idea. But separating media in simplistic boxes like “left” and “right” doesn’t do much to provide any diversity in the news. Nor are these terms very accurately applied. It’s just twitter organized differently. It’s got potential tho.

Great app. A must have to keep yourself informed of how spin is implemented.

in a league of its own. comparing by news stories by bias is really useful. Somewhat scary how one news story can be reported on so differently by sources on opposite side of the spectrum. My new go to news app

Not worth it.. It’s a poor decision to scrape news sites for data then just provide AI summaries - the news sites deserve the clicks and without people actually clicking on the article, they won’t get ad revenue and the news will cease to exist (hence why so many newsrooms have shut down in the last decade). This app is very short sighted if it believes it’ll have anywhere left to scrape from in 5 years without sending traffic to the websites. Bottom line, When we click a headline, it should bring us to the news agency’s website, not your AI summary. Second complaint is that it just does not refresh often enough. Why am I seeing the exact same headlines for three days in a row? (Also why am I, a Canadian who has expressed zero interest in Australian business, getting headlines several days in a row about Woolworths grocery chain? Or crimes occurring in small towns in the UK?). Third, and very annoyingly, on several different new sites, video ads pop up full screen even if I haven’t touched the ad, and far long after I’ve scrolled past the part of the page with the video ad. This doesn’t happen to me on safari or on other news aggregators ok those same news sites. I also wish it would block the little pop ups that ask you to subscribe or ask to accept cookies. Also, a compressed view without photos would be good, because as it is you can only see two stories a page. This is definitely not worth $125 per year, ESPECIALLY considering it doesn’t give you access to paywall content. I gave the free trial a go for a few days but I’m cancelling and deleting.

Best news app I’ve ever used.. Best news source app I’ve used yet. Helps give you the tools to decide for yourself whether it’s real news or bull 💩. Try it and see for yourself. And no I don’t work for Ground.

Terrible update. Not interested in somebody's opinion in a summary of the story. We will make our own summary after we read several angles on the same story. Three clicks to get to the content is irritating and unnecessary.

Difficult to unsubscribe during free trial. Not a bad product, but does not meet my needs. I found it impossible to unsubscribe during the free trial. No instructions on the site or in the app. I would not recommend the trial.

Elsaid. I am very glad to have just one news app that lets me find what I look for in one place , it is so great and helpful. Thank you..

At First This Was My Go-To News App. With this pro version you cannot even basic compare the different publishers on stories & so much more but this alone was one of the biggest things that attracted me to this app. Being able to compare and form my own decisions. This subscription model ruins the app & i will no longer be recommending this to friends & family. Would’ve given this 5 stars before.

Tracking you 24/7. In order to make more money off of you, they now require to use your GPS local news. Because you probably don’t know what city you live in. And if you do, maybe you can’t spell it so they won’t allow that. Just give them your constant GPS location …

A solution to an abundance of news sources. I love this app. It’s subscription price is super reasonable, it allows you to identify your own biases and offers such a simple interface to navigate different news sources on the same topic! As someone who is trying to understand what’s going on in the world without being flooded by bias, it makes finding several sources easy so I can better form my own opinion/perspective on events.

The best. Considering the amount of lying done by today’s journalists, this app is useful if only to determine which sites are credible, and which aren’t. I seek out objective journalism, and this is the app which helps me to make sure that I am not being fed propaganda from either side. Its subscription fee is also dirt cheap considering what you get, so it makes sense to pay the annual fee for clean information.

Actual News. Mostly all the news i’ve watch on tv or youtube always go a certain narrative. I don't know but i’ve started paying attention more. Then I’ve discovered ground news and ohh boy. This app’s the real deal. Would recommend to my friends and family definitely. Love the app

Great Product. Like others have said, it's a great idea. I want to be informed with what's going on around the world through multiple sources. I like that Ground News collects news from different outlets and lets me know their typical biases.

Great way to get your news. Better than twitter. Honestly less "noise" and more focused stories that matter

Topic-based news. Provides a way to see the same topic from different angles.

Love it!!!!. I love how there are various tools to analyze and compare the different news sources. It makes it so easy to automatically distinguish which one to trust and not. Love the interactive globe!

Potential. So far I see the potential with Ground News and i am planning to use this exclusively. That being said I noticed a bug and wasn’t sure if there was a process to share so I decided to just do it here. I am uninterested in celebrities so I have this not selected but I am interested in the environment so I have that selected. I have noticed that a title that includes the word “environment” is included in that section but I am getting articles in my feed regard toxic environments on social media. Nothing to do with actual environments. I see the logic but can recognize that I would like to see a way to tag an article from a topic in the feed to say it isn’t suppose to appear there. Idk but so far probably the best news app I’ve used. Better than reddit for sure. Great Job!

Biased. I had a friend who wanted me to figure out if this was legit or not, and after some investigating it is quite clear this platform has a pretty obvious Left Wing bias. This is coming from a center-lefty myself, who reads and watches all forms of news from different sources from different ideologies. But the “factual reporting” segments were not correct on most of the sources I checked. Sorry, but even NEWSGUARD disagrees with your assessments. For example, Timcast has a right leaning bias with a mixed factuality review, even though Mr. Pool’s Timcast has a 98% Newsguard certification. On the other hand, sources like MSNBC news has a “mixed” on factual reporting, while Newsguard and anyone with a brain reading their news can tell they are not a prime source of factual coverage to any degree, somewhat the same with NBC as well, and CNN.

Good idea, janky implementation. This is a fantastic idea for an app. I like using it to find out what I might be missing because of filter bubbles or underreporting, and it works very well for that! But this app is not nice to use. It looks almost like a native iOS app, but it doesn’t act like one. Scrolling performance on last year’s iPhone is bad, animations are hitchy, it’s using the one game API to keep the home indicator from responding the first time you try to get out, and it puts the buttons on a slide-up modal dialog in weird spots. Oh, and in 30 seconds of scrolling the news feed, my network-level ad and tracking blocker reported 12 requests to 3 different tracking domains. Gross.

Best news app. If you are looking for an unbiased news app, I can not recommend this enough. They sort news by topic and you can see who is talking about and their bias. So the article might be bias, but you can read multiple to see different sides. Also, this app really has no ads. They don’t spam you, create pop ups, or impact the visibility of their site. Update 5/1/23: Just had to give this app a little more praise. Just noticed they actually tell you which news articles are behind paywalls. So you don’t have to waste time waiting for all the news outlets ads to load before waiting to find out there is a paywall.

Great App. My only complaint is that they need to develop an IPad-specific version where the “news feed” is a vertical stream that you scroll up and down through on the map (while in landscape mode) instead of the weird narrow band with horizontal scrolling. Otherwise its a pretty solid app with the ability to see news articles from multiple sources for a given event. Some of the articles are not accurately depicted on the map; however, this could be related to the articles’ meta-data and not an app issue. Definitely recommend giving this one a shot, especially if you live in a high-population area and enjoying staying informed.

Complete View. Only when you see the world from all points of view can you see the full picture. The Ground news platform makes this possible by taking the work out of hunting down sources and categorizing them by bias, location and timeline. You can form your own opinion when you view all perspectives and step out of your lane no matter what your political affiliation. This app also expands your world view by vetting and categorizing news outlets that carry stories from around the world which may not make it to mainstream media in your location.

Excellent news App despite being slow a d buggy. Excellent news app for gathering sources from everywhere and helping evaluate coverage bias on a topic. Images and video can be slow to load, sometimes with the wrong content and significant layout shifts, it’s a somewhat buggy app. Today, when scrolling down a lot, the app just quits. Growing pains for the developers I’m sure… I will keep loving this app as long as they keep it up and keep making improvements because it is worth it 100%.

Great app but freezes. I really appreciate Ground News and their endeavors to expose media bias while covering the news in a balanced manner. I’m a paid subscriber because this is desperately needed in todays society and want to support them. However, and this is why I gave it 3 stars, several times a week the app freezes as I’m scrolling through the headlines. Sometimes, when I click on a story, the page won’t load. Closing out the app and opening it again sometimes works, but not always. I’ve also uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I have an iPhone 12 so my phone shouldn't be a problem. Once this is remedied, I will happily give this app 5 stars.

New design is terrible. Ground News was my daily news app for the past few years, but this new redesign has ruined the app. It used to be so simple and streamlined, but now it’s clunky, ugly, and harder to find the same basic info that was clearly visible before. Since the update, the app also isn’t recognizing that I already have a pro subscription and shows that I’m only using a free account, even though the App Store shows its active. Overall, it really stinks that this app has changed so much for the worse. I’m so bummed. Edit: I was able to get my subscription reactivate after signing out and back in. Also, glad to hear the developer is listening to user feedback and will be pushing out som updates soon. I look forward to seeing those updates!

It’s moving in the right direction, it just needs some tuning.. For aggregating sources this is pretty handy for a free app. I really appreciate what it’s trying to show people, I disagree with the approach however so I will be taking a break from it for a while. Informed citizens know the bias of the editors and the media publishers, however there are new names in journalism every day that omit pertinent information and use biased language for what might be considered a ‘center’ source. After a few hours of use its easy to find yourself outside of center, even after trying to stay with just the sources that should be closer to center by this particular rating system. Perhaps rating the journalists- and not their employers would be more realistic. Real journalist put their name on the work for a reason and devote their lives to the trade, some accountability where it matters would be nice. These are just people, after all. Outside of that the UI is confusing and not very tidy but that can easily be ignored considering the value of information presented.

Totally reductive way of looking at the news. The Ground news paradigm of forcing all news outlets into an American style “left” and “right” leaning political bias is utter garbage. Nowhere is there any value placed on the values of “accuracy” or “reliability” or “trustworthiness” or the value of the work that reporters and journalist do in uncovering wrongdoing, holding powerful leaders accountable or providing a public service to readers who need information during major crises. Instead, news is viewed through a jaded cynical lens that devalues the work that journalists and their editors and fact checkers do every day and instead rates it on a political scale that only furthers political polarization and sends readers further into their corners. I would definitely not recommend using this app: it is a dangerous mind warp that is harmful to society.

From the moment I installed it, Ground News has become my default app for news.. I’ve been living off the app for my news since the installation. Wasted no time getting the pro membership. It’s absolutely stellar. I’ve put the widget front and center on my Home Screen. It carried me through the election. The US presidential election. It puts all other news apps, including and especially Apple News to shame. You pick your sources by content, genre, interests...and all sources are all in there. From the New York Times to Rolling Stone. From Vanity Fair to the guardian. Topics are endless. This builds your feed. Open the news for the day, see the headlines from all your sources. If you’re a political nut, choose by bias. Far Right, right, center, left, far left. Note which outlets cover what. And which don’t. It’s brilliant and reference worthy. Congrats to the team!!!!!!!! Bravo!!!!! Keep up the great work!!!! Wes

New app. I setup the app today. I am giving it 4 stars initially because there is quite a bit to this software. ( news, video, comments, dark function to name just a few) and I have enjoyed the quality of what I’ve seen along with the fact it actually works smoothly and looks to be very high quality workmanship and easy to figure out. It has a bias function that analyzes your political leanings or interests. That is quite different. $10-$12 per year gets you everything that is available, which I did on a monthly basis of about $1. I can discontinue anytime through the Apple store. Can’t beat the price for this quality. Everything’s explained well in settings and just to be sure I emailed a question which got a response in about 30 minutes. My only negative comment would be that it is a very busy screen with all the things going on. I am more of a minimalist so that is a trade off. I’ll check back in with a follow up review in 30 days or so.

Republican extremists control the comments. This app is great! Great news, great bipartisan coverage. But the comments are full of toxic right wing people. Can’t have a different opinion without them thinking you’re trying to silence them. They constantly attack you without trying to make a point. And the app is just sliding towards Parlor status. Unfortunately, it’s losing its bipartisan status from the right wing political extremist trying to control the comments with hateful speech and false facts Edit: I’m updating my review with 1 star now, the devs seem to think having the ability to turn comments off is helpful. The problem is the comments are so toxic, it’s the worst of republicans, the app may be great, but if you provide a breeding ground for hate and misinformation, you’re starting to become an app only one demographic uses.

It’s not bad, but…. It’s a great app! The interface is intuitive and keeps my attention on what matters. The only caveat is the comments on the news stories; these people somehow find a way to politicise EVERYTHING. For example, there was a headline on how NASA found some mysterious radio waves, and the comments were on how aliens would be disgusted by Bidens speeches. Like what the heck? It’s just out of hand. But other than that, the app is great- my fav feature is the category tab (specifically off-beat, I’ve found some really funny headline there)

Alt right propaganda and conspiracy theories. This app is little more than alt right activists trying to normalize their fringe conspiracy theories by including their “news” sources on the app. The amount of times I get recommended breitbart and other alt right publications is ridiculous, but did I ever once get a recommendation from tyt or jacobin? No. They claim to be about clearing up bias, but really they only care about pushing their opinion as fact Edit: the response from the devs just prove how extremely incompetent they are. I never claimed to be receiving news from just one source, I just listed a singular source as an example. Instead of responding to the actual problems with their app they decided to poke fun at my semantics and ignore the question. What a bunch of scum bags

News. You will see lots of reviews about user interface issues, but these aesthetic complaints about how well the app scrolls pale in comparison to what a great app it is. Simply put, journalism is a dying art, and it is impossible to get an unbiased take on even supposedly bipartisan issues. The bisected political system is annihilating our public discourse and oftentimes I am more concerned about blatant lying than I am bias in news coverage. This is the only application, app or otherwise, that I have found that allows even a small amount of control over the flood of sensationalism pouring out of the news media. This app is no less than a gift to mankind.

Bias?. Update: I received a response from Ground News and am updating my review. I understand the position however as an inexperienced user of the app, Im trying to understand their position. I do stand by my assessment that I see more right biases articles show up w/out me having to scroll left or right if that makes sense. I suppose that means there are less articles that are left biased w/out a center biased article as well. Confusing I know. I’ve enjoyed the content so far, however their “bias” seems skewed. If an article is critical of the left, it’s right bias; if an article is critical of the right it’s centered bias. Rarely if ever is an article Left bias.

I am VERY Happy With GROUND News. It’s helped me keep an open mind, and read more views from opposing viewpoints to my own. It even has a widget for your home screen that includes one story that is a blind spot for the left, and another that is a blind spot for the right. I always feel more properly informed from GROUND than other news sources, since I know I totally have a liberal bias, I now always check how right-leaning sources are talking about stories. I’ve been exposed to ideas and stories that I otherwise would not have, and that’s something truly amazing for a FREE news app. Seriously, use this app. I would absolutely recommend it, it’s now my only source of news.

Interesting idea but poor execution. I like the idea of the app, but there are a few issues. 1. There is no way to apply ad blockers to the in-app browser when clicking on individual articles. There is no way to stop annoying autoplaying videos that pop up every 2 seconds on many of the news sites linked. 2. There are far more far right websites relative to far left sites. The ratings are also skewed. Reliable, unbiased sources that report news without added commentary like AP, NPR, and PBS are labeled as left instead of center. This is because the app comes up with the rating using three rating sites: AdFontes, AllSides, and Media Bias/Fact Check. Both AllSides and Media Bias/Fact Check are owned by people known to have right-wing affiliations. AdFontes is the only one that uses a rating system that is methodologically sound.

Nothing else like it. Truly helps see all sides.. Eye opening to see what you always suspected. The misrepresentation using headlines. Sensationalizing trivial facts that cause a firestorm in one camp. And failure to report from one camp since it obviously doesn’t support their narrative. Made me realize I’m being led by the nose, whoever I’m listening to. Great supplement to primary news sources, but not yet able to use this as my go-to since it requires a lot of wading through stories to find what is making headlines out there, and maybe some refinement needed on how they group stories (but they listened to and received this feedback! Wow).

Mostly good, but some really annoying issues. I'm mostly happy with the service, but the banner that keeps offering a 1 week trial for the premium service is pretty annoying. I'm a subscriber, and I'm logged in. Please stop advertising to me. Another annoying issue is listing links to sites with paywalls. Please fix the app to stop listing sites I can't access. Sure, I can delete each one individually, but I shouldn't have to. Finally, please allow me to disable the top banner completely. I don't care about what someone thinks is "breaking news". I don't need the banner at all - it just annoys me. I'm going to read the articles, just tone down the hype please.

nowhere near as useful as I was expecting. The $10/yr “pro” sub is barely worth buying because it only unlocks a few features. There appears to be no way to upgrade, you just have to buy a second $30 subscription for full functionality. After I bought the $10 plan, the app refused to recognize me as a paying user on iPad or iPhone and kept requesting that I upgrade. I managed to get the iPhone app to recognize me 20 minutes after buying the membership, but on iPad, I had to wait until the next day before the “restore purchases” button would work. Generally speaking, the app is crudely designed, keeps freezing on me, and fails to load articles. And finally, because Ground News has no agreements with news outlets, most of the articles they recommend are locked behind individual paywalls, making the whole thing pointless.

How reading the news should be!. After trying for years to piece together a rough approximation of reliable news from the dozens of available news outlets, discovering Ground News was like finding a decoder-ring. Now I can take in all stories from major headlines down to even minor local stories, and I can see at a glance, who is saying what, any political of financial agenda(s) the author(s) may have, and how credible and factual the story might be. Ground News paid service is shockingly inexpensive and worth every penny!!!

This is the way news should be reported. This is an amazing app. It gives you access to numerous reporting sources so you can see how each topic is being reported across multiple media outlets - nationally and internationally. You see all sides of an issue and can make more rational decisions. I especially liked the Blindspot reports, which tell you what stories you are missing if you only read from one side of the political spectrum. After using this app you will be better informed and more objective.

A great news app. I’ve been looking for an app like this for quite a while and finally found Ground News. They essentially scan the news outlets for the current stories and point out how the left and right report. It’s great to compare and contrast and see how both sides are only looking to sway you instead of reporting the facts (some are better than others). It will also show stories where both sides agree and are telling the same story! The app also has a premium option, I am not usually a person who pays for a premium subscription but I am considering it since I truly appreciate the transparency and ease of use for this app.

Good Intentions, Not so good UI/UX. I like the intention of the app - finding out a stories bias across different media outlets, but despite the founder praising the benefits of good UI/UX, I find this app suffering in that regard. The difficulty is skimming articles and trying to present them in a cohesive way. Often the photos are oddly cropped and I find the chronologically linear organization does not actually find me the stories I want. Although I filled out preferences, I need to go to “Following” section to find specific articles organized by topic. Ironically, I think Flipbook organizes the variability of other media sites stories well, despite occasional errors (“German Shepards are the most popular dog!” while showing an image of a pug…)

Too Many Clicks to Go Forward and Backward. Most times when I see an article on the front page, I just want to click and read it. I am not interested in checking the story with other publications. I am also visual impaired and the dark mode is important to me so I use it all the time. I just want click and read the article in dark mode with ONE CLICK. It is frustrating to have to clicik and click and click to read the article. Then I have to click and click and click to get back to the front page. Why can't the user choose a default setting to automatically read the full article in dark mode with just one click and go back to the front page with one click?

Excellent News Application. This application is a vital tool for our modern news landscape, most news aggregators are based on an algorithm which will serve content based on what you’re biased towards, and influence your opinions in a specific feedback loop. Ground news has allowed me to read different views on various topics and be able to form my own opinions by seeing the different ones baked into the news I read and by showing the leaning of the source, can enable me to not be misled.

Nice idea but flawed. This is a great idea except very few will objectively review a news story. Besides the fact that most news services simply copy and paste stories from a small number of major new sources. A story about the President not extending the eviction moratorium is basically the same in all news feeds. Fox News was rated right bias even though it’s story was almost identical to many others who got a center leaning rating. They just changed the paragraphs around so it wasn’t a copy and paste like most of the others. So basically, the ratings you see are for the news service itself and not the specific story. Fox will always be right leaning and CNN left leaning. The only fair way is hide the name of the news source until after a review is done.

Brilliant Idea, with poor execution. The idea behind the app is vary good, and it seems well written. I suffered from a problem many such applications have. Poor planning. It will find multiple articles from independent sources, which have various takes on the same story. The problem is that the links frequently lead to pay pages, and many of them lock up the app until you pay. Leaving you stranded or subscribing to a web site you have been to once, and don’t plan to return to. Or just closing the app, and starting over. I suggest that they spend some of the money I had to pay to start a “free trial” to put in place access agreements with the sites they send you too. If I go to the same site multiple times, and decide I like it, I may subscribe. If all it does is force me to close the app, without actually reading anything, it rapidly becomes “a not going to subscribe.” I’ll try working with it for another week, and then request Apple process a refund. I don’t have time in my life for another frustrating app.

Use Your Own Critical Thinking Skills. All the other newsfeed apps deliver you content via algorithms created by guys in hoodies in Silicon Valley. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want some faceless dude telling me what I should (or shouldn’t) be reading. This app delivers me a wide range of content for each news event and lets me decide how to digest the topic by allowing me to objectively review the news item by source, bias rating, location, etc. I have been using this app for some time and it has helped me be a better consumer of news.

Good App, With a Catch. Well done news app with several really good features. Paid to subscribe at the Pro level ($10/year), but get constant messages letting me know that the feature I want to view requires an additional “Premium” subscription to access. I’m not fan of having tiers for features that should be accessible to all subscribers (like blind spot, which shows you stories only on the right or left) especially when the incremental feature set is limited and doesn’t include access to subscription news sources (like what you’d get with Apple News). Most likely won’t be renewing.

Easily the Best News App Ever!. This app is truly amazing. So many people stick to one platform of information and it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing highly edited articles. Ground News does a great job mitigating bias by offering you the same EXACT story but from almost EVERY platform thats covering it. You see exactly how they change headlines to convey what message they want you to hear. As well they provide very succinct AI summary that pulls from all the articles which I LOVE. Cant go wrong downloading this app. Even the free version is awesome!

News feed with perspective. Quickly gain perspective on headlines of the moment. Clearly displayed biases of the news sources with easy to understand indicators. I particularly enjoy seeing how their biases shape the words they choose and the subjects they focus upon in the range of titles. My only real frustration (no fault of Ground News or their app) most links to the full articles bump up against a paywall. I get it - they deserve to make a living, but there is an industry (news) and a populus of potential subscribers that would love a better option. Excuse my tangent. DISCLAIMER: I did pay for access to Ground News and for those of my Loved Ones.

The Best News Out There. News that is reported and vetted according to the slant given to it by both conservative and liberal platforms. There is a clarity in the ratings that cuts through most of the extremism, and reports news in a straight forward way. Listing the media companies, gives one the feel about how the news in reported in different countries, as well as seeing how the news is reported in Europe, Asia and Africa, and gives a feel for how the news many be perceived around the world. It gives one a depth of understanding, and perception provided by no other app. It is simply the best.

Perfect app for those wanting to broaden their media intake. Media is always a tricky subject. We tend to keep ourselves in our own little bubble and therefore only hear or read stories that further our already strong beliefs or feelings about something. The best thing about this app is the ability to see the same story from multiple different news outlets and see what bias it has. I have been able to read and learn so much with this app about stories that I would not have seen before or maybe a story that is written differently on the left vs the right vs the center. If broadening your perspective is something you are wanting when it comes to news, this is app is perfect!

Such a great concept!. This app has made it interesting to read the news for me for maybe the first time ever. I can follow the specific topics that I’m interested in so I’m not hearing news that doesn’t interest me, and I’m hearing news that I don’t get in other places. The ability to look at the ways that different publications are covering a story is so valuable, watching how divisive it can be is eye opening and very needed. Overall, now that I have this app, I can’t imagine consuming news any other way.

Both sides-ism at its worse. The idea behind this news aggregator is to present the news from all viewpoints and to point out when one side has a blind spot to a particular news story. But it ends up promoting news articles from highly unreliable sources with many errors of fact or outright lies. The problem is worsened by the rating system having only 3 levels for factuality: high, mixed, and low. So a lot of very different news organizations get dumped in “mixed factuality.” This is despite the fact that one of the three ratings outfits Ground News based its ratings on has 5 levels for factuality. A publication with a 70% factuality rating can get lumped into “mixed factuality” with one that comes in at 30%. Last, you can try filtering out the low factuality sources, but this doesn’t always work.

Help you find the balance. What’s not to love. I have been so curious during these last few months re: International reaction and in depth news to coronavirus. My husband and I travel a good deal and I do international mission work. I can get individual Missionaries reaction to what’s going on but I really have wished for a more global approach to news. It is so interesting to find out what countries are reporting the news and how they’re reporting it. Try the space and see what you think. I can also get news in my region that I know my local paper is not interested in.

Lots of little things. It’s ridiculous that I have to ask this from a news app, but please show the date on stories in the feed. It’s unfortunate that I regularly see days-old stories with no way to tell they’re old unless I click in. That subscription banner is just obnoxious. You’re not converting anyone by annoying them, only pushing them away. At least hide it on scroll. Please make it easy to block/hide certain sources. There’s so much garbage and clickbait and no easy way to curate. Maybe start using AI to avoid recommending these articles altogether. Making this a paid feature just shows a lack of care for user experience and erodes confidence in the value proposition of the app.

APP HAS IT’S OWN BLIND SPOT. I like the idea of identifying typical bias in news organizations, but rating the bias of a story/outlet is more than just simply if they reported on it. It’s not just WHO covers the story, but HOW. When a “news” organization is obviously biased, but they represent them selves as “objective” and consciously and consistently misrepresent the facts through omission or otherwise, it doesn’t “burst your bubble” to hear they’re particular “hot take”. What would be better is if both Left AND Right fact checkers gave the story and/or the source a credibility rating and the bias rating was weighted as a result. Eg CNN would be hit hard on its Covington Catholic reporting among others that would reduce its “credibility weighting”. Same for the outlets that perpetuated election fraud without presenting statistical context.

Essential app. This app is so essential for getting at the truth. As a left leaning reader they show me blind spots in coverage and seeing which outlets are reporting what helps to gauge what issues are important to me - whether it’s a left, right, or center organization. I purchased a $10 yearly subscription (very worth it) and I cancelled the renewal as I’m poor and want to manually renew when the time comes. The app’s team contacted me personally to get feedback on why I cancelled. Not automated, they actually wrote to me. Can’t beat that kind of personal touch these days.

Awesome news aggregator with helpful analysis.. Ground News is easily one of my most-used news apps and I find myself using it daily. Aside from the bias analysis, which has been useful for looking at news on both sides of the political spectrum, I’ve found it’s a great aggregator that has exposed me to many stories I have not heard about from across the globe. I highly recommend this app if you’re an individual that enjoys being “in-the-know” but are also interested in digging deeper into the stories that matter.

Surprisingly good. I’m able to read news again.. Over the past few years, I’ve read increasingly less news, but I’m reading more again with Ground because it gives access to more ‘what happened’ news, without the noise of subjective analysis or opinions. Being able to browse left, center, and right sources and filter for factuality is brilliant. However, I do wish the filtering options could be saved. I read my favorite news sources much more critically as a result. I always start with center and high factuality, then browse left- and right-leaning sources. Please subscribe. Ground deserves the support. On the critical side, the web interface is better than mobile, but I guess they’re working on that. I don’t use the apps anymore. Days-old articles stay on the front page alongside fresh articles for a confusingly long time. It seems older articles should expire when new articles covering the same topic are published.

Truly Unbiased. I’ve used many news aggregators: Flipboard, Google News, Microsoft News, News Republic, etc. and all of them unashamedly lean toward a a very particular spectrum with little to no representation of the opposing side. Ground has such a refreshing approach. They take an article and sort the sources into clearly defined sections on the political spectrum so you can see which side is more focused on the story and decide which viewpoint you will read it from. You can block sources that are too extreme for you, left or right, and choose topics your more interested in to better personalize you feed. I can’t recommend this app enough.

Interesting idea, but the bias calculation is definitely off. I actually really like the idea of this app, and it’s definitely the closest thing I’ve seen to having a solid comparable coverage methodology in a news aggregator. However, after looking at the way that they rank the news sources, I don’t agree with their “independent” reviewers. There is no way that CNN is left and the NYT only leans left. I don’t think that there is a 100% bulletproof way to label an entire outlet, so I’ll give them some wiggle room, but I think they could get more accurate representation by using keyword monitoring ai, and eliminating the “center” classification. The reality is that there is so little in today’s “click on me” world that centrism doesn’t really exist.

Really like this app. I struggle with finding a balance of news sources because I don’t always want to get one slant due to the way our country is being polarized by only reading news with which one agrees. I’ll often read international news sources to get another view but I’d rather not have 5 different news apps on my phone. In comes this app. The only thing I dislike about it (and not enough to ding it with a 4 star rating) is it often pulls the WSJ which you cannot read if you don’t have a subscription. The owners of the app may want to see about getting 10 articles/mo free or something. I think the NYT does something similar. Not sure how they keep track of who’s seeing what. I read an article from Nigeria’s national newspaper. I read a French newspaper (it was in English). I love that I can get non-American views about issues. I recommended the app to my friends on Facebook, and I recommend it to you.

The poor ratings are lies. If you are not 100% sold, by their bold claim to have the most news. Their low monthly price that accompanies it ought to smooth things over. If that’s not enough, this is what did it for me. I tapped “blindspot” and immediately recoiled at what I saw… it follows me everywhere, I can’t escape it. Just terrible flashing….. oh boy, anxiety attack, nightmare… I’m living a nightmare…. And then I just tap… and I told ground news exactly what I didn’t like about it and it said it will show me less of it…. And I trust it. I already trust it. I thank God.

What did you do to the app?. Until this most recent update I was recommending this app to a large variety of people. But now the UI has gone from simple to understand, to an ugly gray mesh with confusing density-bias bar that highlights the deeper the bias is, as well as the comment section being permanently turned off. Im aware of the purpose of the new changes I dont think theyre well implemented though, whoever was doing UI must have realized that if you disable commenting the engagement factor drops significantly and wanted to give the user something to engage in. If youre not willing to let people speak their minds about the topic at hand, I dont think this application will garner the support or continued usage its users have been giving it. Good luck with whereever you take your project, but Ill be uninstalling and looking elsewhere.

Please wait! Ground News app comments loading...
