IFTx Comments & Reviews 2026
Works well with QMX. I had a couple of times it sent multiple 73 messsges even though a RR73 was received. It would be nice to add SOTA and POTA to the contest mode so it would send CQ SOTA.
No CAT Control. App receives fine and generates FT8 signal but does not offer CAT control for transmitting to a QRP Labs QDX transceiver. Hoping developer can add CAT control and a POTA template in a future release so the app is more useable.
Works with a FT-991 over USB. I recently purchased this. With some setting changes on my FT-991 via USB, I have been able to receive and transmit FT8 signals and had a successful QSO. I also see the reporting on PSK reporter. The interface is workable, it takes a little to get used to, but is working. I think because there’s not as many options as compared to a full computer with keyboard. But, as a portable device, this is a good and viable option.
A great Start. This App is off to a great start but many of us have been struggling to figure out how to select the iPad serial port for audio input and output. It seems to default to the iPads microphone and speaker rather than the lightning connector.
Problem with recognizing usb audio. It works but only sometimes. When it does not work it listens to the iPhone mic vs the usb mic Saw the YouTube video about using the ugreen usbc-audio adapter. Support page comes out blank on iPhone so trying this here in hopes someone else can confirm and better is there is some setting I need to have. When I connect cable I choose headphone vs other but have tried both. It has worked about 20% of the time.
Works well on the go!. Some problems with sequencing of the other party was not following the expected sequence to the dot. Lost 23% of my QSOs today due to this. However being able to just plug my phone into my kx2 and do FT8 is awesome while on the go! This is a great start. Can’t wait to see where it goes.
Excellent software. Well designed and easy to use. Can use IPhone mic and speaker for a no cable solution. Nice help built into app. Well worth the small price. Running on my IPhone SE. Perfect for portable FT8 operation. Highly recommended! WB9FUW
A will use this!. Obviously this is not the same as using a full size computer screen, but the developer has done a fine job of making best use of a small screen. This app might be the last straw that gets me to buy the new iPhone with usb C. That is not really necessary. There are other ways to connect if you’re not in the mood for a new iPhone, but I was already thinking about upgrading. KO6FE
Great New App for FT8/FT4. Thanks, Christoph, for this app! It works perfectly with my (tr)uSDX and iPad. Love the auto logging. Suggestion: add QRZ look-up option. With the QRZ look-up added, one could also access one’s own QRZ logbook and then from there upload the QSO to LOTW. I am still trying to get the IFTX to work on transmit with my iPhone 8. It receives, looks like it is transmitting, but no output. The problem must be somewhere in my iPhone settings. 73 and keep up the good work! 73 de W B 3 B I Q.
Now with POTA/SOTA!!. I have used this app successfully for about a dozen activations with nothing more than my phone, and my TruSdx using VOX. Pretty intuitive, and the log export is ADIF compliant. Well done!!
Very Useful for Lightweight POTA/SOTA Activating. Let me say that this works, and sometimes I think it “hears” more than my laptop running WSJTX. I have run it with my Elecraft KX2 and a Digirig no problem and activated several parks with it running on a iPad Mini and IPad Air, I have not tried it on my IPhone. Much lighter and easier footprint than bringing a laptop along. It is not, however, as “flexible” as WSJT-X. By that, i mean, if you have several stations calling you, your callsign is not highlighted in the large “Listen” page, you have to go back and hunt through everything you are receiving, though perhaps under the “reply” page the developer can add all that stations calling your callsign with all of the stations calling ‘CQ’. I also would like a feature to clear all of the “QSO”s in the “log” versus having to delete them individually. Though I only ask for this since I also found that it would always download the entire log, not just “new entries since last export”, which for a POTA guy makes managing each activation cumbersome. Overall, i give it 4 stars because it does a good job for what it does. Fix atleast those 2-3 issues above and I’d give it a full 5.
So far not sure. I downloaded the app I can not get past putting in my call sign. I enter it and hit save it tells me “ enter call sign’ I’m stuck how to move forward. I click support and nothing comes up. Trying to find a email to ask for guidance. Can’t wait to use this. Once I get pass this problem.
Great start. I really like the app so far. A few issues. When I go to log it logs my call sign instead of the station I’m calling. Can you consider adding in the future and auto respond to any reply to my CQ? would really like automatic logging to take place if possible, thanks for all you do 73.
Interesting and Easy to use, lacks some features for now. I’m very excited for the progress on this app. The software seems there and it decodes and encodes FT8/FT4 just fine, but I hope it could be expanded to JS8call or other modes potentially in the future. It seems that running an integrated sound card such as the one in my Xiegu X6100 is not yet supported, as on both my iPad Pro 2020 and my iPhone 12 Pro connecting an Apple USB-C to C/Lightning cable was ignored and played the audio through the speaker. I hope in the future this method could be implemented as I would use it very regularly for SOTA in order to lighten my kit.
Worked on first try!. No C/V computer control needed! VOX does the trick, IF your radio has that feature. Manual hitting the mike button may work as well on simple rigs! Make sure the iPhone time is accurate! I didn't understand or find a log however. Adding a LOG button would help. 73 Bo W4GHV since '54
Outstanding real FT8 operations on the iPhone. I use an Easy Digi connected to the microphone and headphone jacks on my Yaesu FT-710, and connected the 3.5mm cable to a genuine Apple Lightning to 3.5mm adapter and my iPhone 14 Pro, and using the iFTx app, I can both reliably decode and transmit JT8. If I could ask for one improvement it would be QRZ or eQSL log book integration. Still this app hits it out of the park. I love this app. It doesn't get any easier than this for iPhone portable ham radio and JT8.
Good and simple program. But…. I really love this, but the exporting of the log does not really work. The export since last export still exports the entire log and you can select specific contacts to export. Fixing that would make this app PERFECT!
Needs DX and POTA added to CQ transmission.. It seems to work better on my iPhone than my iPad. On the iPad I get relies to my CQ calls but after that I don’t seem to get the signal report and/or 73. To be fair, the only time I’d find it useful to use the app is working POTA. The app definitely needs this functionality to be useful to portable operators. UPDATE: The developer is adding POTA/SOTA/DX additions to CQ calling in the next update. I have upped my rating to 5*
I’m impressed! Elegantly simple.. I love how simple this app is and the fact that it just works! Perfect for POTA, when you don’t want to lug a laptop or risk damaging one. Yaesu FT-991A RT-42 USB Cable Lightning to USB adapter - $16 SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the amount of energy needed when operating on battery power - in my case, 105W laptop vs 10w phone. I was able to make several contacts without power running to the adapter, which is really cool. Didn’t seem to drain a bunch of battery while doing it either. Very well designed and architected app. 4/5 because the waterfall needs some work. I’m okay with the stylized signal visuals, because this is a mobile app, but it just doesn’t display correctly on screen. The bandwidth scaling is off. I move the bottom slider to the right, but it makes the waterfall start at 600Hz and displays well past the relevant pass band. Would love to see a feature enhancement that enables advanced waterfall configuration similar to WSJT-X - i.e., Start, Compression Factor and average FFTs.
So far so good. I like the program so far. Any chance you can add a free-message option? Or maybe JS8?
ft8. Can this application connect to the Bluetooth of the radio via iPhone and transmit via FT8 mode?
FT8 in your pocket. Worked well. Easy to use. Did have a problem trying to use on Field Day. I couldn’t find a way to enter the FD exchange information.
Works…most of the way. For some reason, when I use the Exchange button to respond to a call it always sends a +00 signal report. Also, logging is strange with incorrect time entries and repeated logging of my own call sign as a contact.
Time is out of sink?. Seems like the idea of the program is great. The problem I’m having is the time is out of sync with my iPhone. The time says 0600 when it’s 11:00 PM. Also moving the cursor for the frequency is very difficult to set to an exact frequency. If I could figure out how to fix these issuesi I would change my rating to 5 stars.
Purely portable ft8. Within 30 minutes of getting my cables I was making contacts using this app, a few generic cables and my tx500/antenna. Very cool de NT3S
Good app but no transmit.. I really like the app and it decodes well I wish with a digirig I could send from a iPad Pro with USB C for audio. Then I could run FT8 portable with my KX2. If this dose work for transmit please share how.
Holy cow!. This app is miraculous. I was typing in my Callsign and grid, with my X-6100 nearby, volume down extremely low. When I closed the configuration window I found it had been scribbling the whisper-quiet screeches in the background and copying them perfectly. Incredible!
ADIF includes unnecessary info. Works fine with internal sound card of QrpLabs QMX. My only complaint is that the ADIF output from the log contains superfluous info which makes importing into another application problematic as it reports that there are too many characters. The complete qso exchanges are sent as “message” and latitude and longitude of both ends of the qso are included. I had to edit the adif to remove this but would like it to have not included the data in the first case.
Great but inconsistent. I tried a SOTA activation yesterday with this app and my KX2. I could only complete 1 contact via the apps and had to switch to SSB to finish the activation. I called CQ and got no responses, then switched to “Listen” mode and saw that a number of stations were calling me back but the app did not present them to me when I was in “Calling” mode. The one contact I made was the only station who called me back on my calling frequency. I also hope to see the ability to add SOTA or POTA prefixes.
Decent application - couple minor nits. The program works very well and is very intuitive. A couple things that would make it almost perfect - first, fix the option to export only QSOs since the last export. It exports everything all the time. Second, add the option for station ID and Operator. Right now, if I operate with a club call sign, I have to manually edit the ADIF to indicate that I was the OP. Third, add the option to add a park number to the export. The MY SIG INFO field gets POTA, but again has to be edited to add in the entity.
Terrible logging. This app works great other than the logging feature. Would love to see logging be changed to manual instead of automatic. I worked several stations with this app and it didn’t log a single one. Also cut out the signing off cycle.

iPad Pro, xiegu g90, ft8, ce19 home built connections. I can confirm this works for ft8 send and receive, with confirmed QSOs. No CAT control, or integration with logging apps or web sites, but will work for light weight POTA setup. No integration with grid tracker or equivalent. Harder to get optimal power output than a Mac or PC.
Bad. No good.
