Traditional musical instruments are difficult to learn because notes are arranged based on physical constraints. Musix Pro arranges notes based on their harmonic and musical relationships instead, allowing shapes and patterns to emerge that unlock the mathematical beauty of music.

What is Musix Pro:

- A professional musical instrument and midi controller
- Learn one pattern and instantly play in any key
- Explore the harmonic relationships between notes
- Play music easily without sacrificing virtousity
- An isomorphic layout creator and experimentation app
- A melody exploration device

Features:

- Core / Virtual / Bluetooth Midi, OSC
- Supports all MIDI / Audiobus DAWs
- Touch Velocity Dynamics
- 8 Built-in instruments
- AudioBus Support (MIDI sender, Audio sender, State Saving)
- Hexagonal and Rectangular layouts
- Multiple built-in note arrangements
- Custom layout generation and saving
- Colourize different notes based on key, scale, and mode
- Label notes based on Solfege, or Note name
- Multiple note sizes
- Multiple color patterns
- Note Overlap (play 3-note chords with one finger)
- Full iPhone Support

Unlike other music apps, Musix Pro provides a wide range of octaves, scales, keys, chords and modes, without limiting your creativity. With multiple built-in instruments and support for OSC and Core/Virtual Midi, most existing synthesizers work beautifully with Musix Pro as a controller.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Musix Pro is key agnostic, which means is that once you have learned a musical pattern (like a chord or a scale) that pattern is the same for all keys, even the dreaded A-Flat! Sharps and flats appear in the right place automatically, through the mathematical magic of isomorphism. You can learn to play melodies on a traditional keyboard by playing them on Musix Pro and watching where the sharps and flats go.

Songwriters benefit by discovering new melodies and musical relationships. Novices find it easy to learn to play. Experienced musicians are rewarded with an intuitive interface. Keys can be resized to fit your style - start with "epic"-sized keys, and as you get better you can shrink the keys fill the screen with notes.

Isomorphic keyboards are found on traditional and new instruments, from concertinas, accordions, and "jammers" to Janko keyboards, harmonic-table devices and more. Musix Pro is the only way to access all isomorphic note arrangements in one powerful customizable application.

Musix Pro comes with a set of built-in layouts, each with its own pros and cons. The harmonic table layout allows you to play any major chord by touching three hexes with one finger. Wicki-Hayden makes modulating between pentatonic scales a breeze. Try them all and find one that works for you.

Musix Pro allows you to change the colour of the notes in your layout. You can colour the notes white and black like a piano; you can colour the notes of any scale or mode (like D-flat mixolidian) and you can colour notes based on tone centre.

Needs a piano. Great app for exploring music theory but It is in desperate need of one real instrument, like a piano! Spacefart synths have there place and im not saying get rid of them! but it's really hard to hear/learn any valuable note relationships with bright brass, hi pass sirens, long decays, pitch mods and other effects.... Side note this app should partner with tenorion

Terrific, Intuitive MIDI Performance Surface. Works as advertised, a great tool to use when writer's block creeps up on you.

Love it when It works. Works like a champ, and gives me access to new ideas but will not play nice with audiobus and sunrizer. Works well with other synth, so could be sunrizer. Perfect in all other respects.

Essential for Linnstrument Owners. This fantastic app is the reason I got an iPad Pro and might be one of the most impactful musical tools I've encountered in my life. As an owner of a Linnstrument, I wanted to have as much practice time as possible on an isomorphic grid, but the Linnstrument can't go everywhere I go. This app *greatly* accelerated my skills playing on a grid and has transformed my understanding of music theory. As I spend more time with it I realize how much of a window into isomorphic or hexagonal layouts it is -- anyone else using this app: Do yourself a favor while you're learning, and switch between 1) layouts, 2) scales, 3) button sizes, and 3) labellings every now and then, even if you're working towards other goals. Doing this really opens up the possibilities but also constantly keeps you at the "edge" of where your learning is at, which helps you get better faster. Going back to a Linnstrument after playing on this app is an amusing sensation, as playing on a glass surfaced iPad requires a lot more mental agility so when you return to the Linnstrument you feel like an ultra-precise master. Great app :)

Isomorphic. This lets you try linnstrument, lumatone, wicki, janko, regular tuned fretboards, accordion, and custom square or rectangle or hex layouts. Being fascinated with these layouts, this app is a killer app for tablets and worth twice the price, in my opinion. Unfortunately, not enough people share this view and development stopped years ago. The UI is clunky, documentation, unfinished, the feedback tool calls it a beta, theres interapp audio but not audio units, and no mpe or bending/sliding/glide. Midi over lan works great, but between two ipads i had missed notes. I havent tried it in AUM yet. All that said, this is the app to buy if youre curious about isomorphic interfaces but arent ready to drop 1 to 2 thousand dollars, order 3d printed janko keys, or retune your guitar. I think the app notional keyboard has square layouts and mpe but not hex, and is twice the price but updated.

Need dark theme note pattern coloring. Personally I feel it will be more fantastic if there is a color theme, where the keys are all in dark colors, while I touch it, it will be bright color. Kind of similar to the colors of those launchpad style app. Also for the existing color themes, it will be cool if touching the key triggers bright color or even some twinkling/flash effect instead of black as it is now.

Good but needs a lil extra to be great. If u have used an app like soundprism which is a fairly real competitor to this app u know 2 things this app desperately needs a) a midi velocity control and b) accelerometer control capabilities.. U can't control any type of velocity pressure with this app, not even manually and u can't control any midi parameters either, just where the signal is going and that's it.. Midi is the reason why this app is at a $5 to $10 buck premium and all the midi does is control the notes.. Mind u, the app is incredibly useful but until it doesn't have a way to control velocity pressure within the app, it's just a great concept that u'll use once in a full moon instead of the monster controller it could be

Excellent app. Good stuff

Great app for microtonal midi control. Hi! Thank you so much for creating and continuing to support this app! The only feature request I have is that we be able to number the individual buttons manually so that saving a preset is even more beneficial, especially when working with hyper chromatic scales.

It's evolutionary. Music is a lot about patterns. There are now several ways in one to learn and experiment with patterns. You will see new patterns and make sense of traditional patterns. It 's Fun and innovative

So Close to 5 Stars.. I am overjoyed that a high-quality isomorphic keyboard app exists in the iOS ecosystem. Musix is responsive, well-designed, and thoroughly usable as a serious musical instrument given its fantastic support for MIDI, OSC, and AudioBus. In my opinion, this app is 3 minor changes away from perfection: - Please let me disable the "slide" between notes! The iPad touchscreen is great, but it is far too easy to mistakenly hit a second key after beginning a touch event. I don't slide between keys on a piano, I don't really ever want to do that here either! - Musix needs a blank coloring. Blank white keys are my favorite way to play on isomorphic keyboard layouts. The rainbow coloring is distracting, and the major scale colorings are constraining for musical thought. - I want to turn the lettering off. All that text is just unnecessary and distracting to me as I don't really think in terms of lettered notes. Thank you so much to shiverware for making such a phenomenal tool! I recommend it to everybody who will listen.

Cool. Very nice app, but needs better sounds than what comes out of the box

Best midi controller on the App Store!. I love this thing! Best midi controller and isomorphic one too.

Superb!. I find myself becoming stale in my playing every once in a while and when this happens I look for ways to change things up. This app does it for me. I simply select what pattern I want the notes to appear on the screen and once I learn how the notes to ascend and descend, I can start noodling around. Another reviewer mentioned the lack of velocity control being sent to other apps. I agree that this would be an important feature, but I'm still very impressed with this app. It's too bad that the iPad doesn't have a larger screen. Making the votes larger and still have a lot of notes on the screen would make this an even better app. Unfortunately, app developers really have no control over the hardware they're developing for. This app gets my thumbs up vote.

Waste of money. I can’t hear the sounds of other apps. I can’t hear any other sounds from different apps

Best midi controller app inthe store. This is hands down the best app to control vst instruments via midi! I can't say how much I miss using it, please update so it will run on the new version of iOS.

A real instrument. First music app I’ve seen that seems like a real instrument in its own right optimized for the iPhone.

Love It!. This a great app for making music. Many different layouts! Polyphonic! A midi controller for Virtual Midi apps! I do wish the instructions were available offline. Shout out to IOS Music and You for making me aware of this app! However, put a recorder a AudioCopy on it and it would be absolutely tremendous and a five star app!

A great program. I'm very happy with this program... although I agree with the reviewer that said it could use a few other control abilities (I will be contacting the company with my personal ideas). The other big thing I would really like to see in this is a basic phrase recorder. This in my opinion would make this a wonderful on the go sketch pad for musical ideas. Well I guess a few more basic sounds, or a very basic synth so you can get your own basic sounds wouldn't go amiss, but all in all though this thing is great!

Musix Rocks!. I can't agree more with Rayato, add the velocity and accelerometer will make this app a Monster! And many music apps already have, except they don't have a brilliant control surface like this one.If added, this will be a Ableton Push Killer! Come on guys, seize the corner of history and make us proud!

great app, easy to use. makes it easy to lay down some bass or keys that sound great. support is quick and responsive too. thanks again, looking forward to future updates.

Awesome Music Interface. I love this interface with its midi support! Thanks for the Audiobus support!

Good in it’s day. Needs to be updated to MPE to be current.

Easy to use for a beginner. I was a bit skeptical at first but soon was quite impressed with the thought that went into this.

False advertising. All features work great but in the iPhone version midi out to daw is not supported. There is no mention of this in the description. Only reason I bought it. A very expensive app for limited functionality merits 2 stars in my book. I suggest thumbjam if you're looking for a midi controller with scales

The Innovation string players have been waiting for.. The boards are laid out in a way that makes them fun and surprisingly ez to play. It just all seems to click together really well to make an outstanding instrument. I far prefer this to traditional linear keyboards. I know I’m not the only string player who understands the concept of a linear keyboard but doesn’t enjoy rocking one because something doesn’t mesh. Personally I think in terms of circles musically and this app gives me the extra dimensional aspect to provide me with circles to look at. This app makes my iPad feel less like a sequencer and more like a traditional instrument. It’s I pretty neat controller that way, but the real power behind this app is that it is literally a sort of archetype or template for every song you could ever want to write. This is hands down the writers most powerful tool, even if you’re a writer that has your theory memorized or well understood there is certainly going to be an idea that this app can help you inspire to write. This isn’t the one to be cheap about 10 bucks on. This app is very innovative and should be funded along to enrich our musical / technical foundation in this growing industry/ hobby market. If you mad it doesn’t have its own sounds, don’t be, this isn’t that sort of design. Sounds are dime a dozen. This is a whole new keyboard concept where your finger shape positioning never needs to change to create new chords, this makes arpeggiating and chord progression a cake walk to navigate thru manually even at faster tempos rt on your iPad screen. It’s awesome ¡ These devs are fast at responding if you need even the stupidest help like I did too. I’m really excited about this app and that’s why I’m giving the best review I can. Im hoping to see continued development over the course of my lifetime on this one... DONT OUTDATE MY KEYBOARD PLZ !!!!!!!

An ergonomic revolution!. Having not so large hands, I have always struggled with the reaches involved in playing the piano keyboard, and have always wondered if there was a better way to lay out the keys. This app really opened my eyes to the possibilities of the isomorphic layout, especially the Gerhard layout. The efficiency in space reduction is significant, as I am able to access 4 chromatic octaves’ worth of hexagonal keys on an iPad Pro 12.9”. I do realize that some of these layouts have existed before on concertinas and button accordions, but this app gives you a lot more options. It also allows you to turn the iPad into both controller and sound producer - one neat little package you can take anywhere! A few things I would suggest to make this app even more awesome would be to mirror-image the screen, because many layouts favor one hand or the other, in terms of performance proficiency. Velocity control could help with expressive performances. A pitch bend bar option would also aid that. As a person who likes tactile feedback, making Musix Pro able to control the layout of a hardware button controller would make it indispensable. That being said, this app is a fundamentally important tool in the evolution of musical instrument design. Thank you, Shiverware!

To many issues. The app keeps freezing and it doesn’t show how to change instruments

Musix Pro. I have had this app for several years, and always come back to it and learn something new. I particularly like the many keyboard options which are isomorphic, and use Janko and Wicki-Hayden everyday, while toying with the B and C systems from time to time. It's been great ti practice for my "real" keyboard (Striso midi controller) and my acoustic Hayden Duet Concertina. It's a treasure!

beautiful MIDI control surface. This app is working great for me, no hiccups at all. (Okay, every once in a while a note won't play.) I love a creative musical interface, and this is one. I love being able to choose from different logical note layouts that bring new melodic and harmonic possibilities to the fore, mixing visual and audio creativity. I use the rainbow color scheme and turn the note names off, just letting my sense of color and pattern lead me. I haven't done anything with the app's builtin sounds; the MIDI works fine, connected with Thor or Thumbjam or whatever. I would like to see some other controls -- like maybe a volume slider, pitch bend or mod wheel -- added, so I hope the dev is still working on this.

Great for learning. Great for learning music theory and bridging the gap between how something sounds and how it works according theory. Highly recommend it to visual thinkers. Really fun for improv as well. I would like to see an option to put a subtle outline around the octaves, I think it would help me to relate it to playing piano a little more easily.

Useless without velocity. Wish I'd done a bit more research before I pressed buy. I really like the isometric layout and think it could be a really great tool, but without velocity it's useless for me. Especially since the velocity it does output seems to be 100% making everything I run midi to sound like it's being smacked with sledgehammer. Even if there was a static option to set velocity at say 50% or 75%, that'd be be better. But surely these creative designers can think of some way to integrate a smart velocity control.

A new way. Your app is a great way to not concentrate on scales and chords by looking at a piano keyboard. I find it liberating to use for creation of both melodies and chordal passages. I am a guitarist first and foremost and your app just has me listening for harmonic relationships instead of formulas.

Great!!!. Really loved the app. Wanted a better keyboard than standard piano layout. Which is 500 year old technology. You guys helped me choose the keyboard that is right for me. Being the sonome or harmonic as I am focusing on playing simple chords for pop songs Great app!!,

Great!. Simple customisable layout, easy to remember patterns for scales & chords. Really like how you can move the range of notes up and down using the corner controls. Changing the size of the keys is also an excellent feature to enable it to be set up for individual playing styles. No problems with getting the midi out to control other apps

So easy to learn. I've only had musix for an hour or so and I'm already playing Christmas carols. Outstanding!

Great work. Love the midi and osc support!

Best app ever. Had a great time playin around. Rocked all day long.

Epic?. More like epically underwhelming. Spend your money on something else

Unique and fun to use!. This is a great app that makes it so easy to play music. My kids also love playing around on it!
