Rolling Stone Magazine Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Cancel Culture. Wants to take u down? I am coming back. Even better that that puts Wenner is gone!!!

Doesn’t work. Subscriber and can’t get app to work or refresh subscriptions. Unable To contact anyone at support for help either.

No way to log in?. It seems that there is no way for print or digital subscribers to log in as there was with the previous version.

Really? This hasn’t been fixed yet?. Have been RS digital subscriber for years but cannot access the content as it only loads a red screen. It has been this way for weeks and I cannot believe there has not been a fix or an explanation!

Keeps getting worse. This app gets continually worse. The ‘saved’ stories disappear after 24 hours, and now I only see the red load screen when I open the app. It’s been more than a week, and “tech support” only sends out automated messages with no help. I love the RS content, and it’s a shame that they can’t do their writers justice by letting people who pay for a subscription read any of it.

Great photos in the gallery!. Thank you for putting up this cool content that might otherwise get lost.

Why doesn’t the Search feature load??. Just spins and spins. Dumb.

Worked great for me - try the updated version.. Navigation is smooth and intuitive. I was quickly reading about and watching video clips from some of my favorite artists. Wish it was free but it’s time to accept good journalism is worth paying for!

App is not working. The app stays frozen on the red opening screen and stays that way. It’s been like this for months.

Not able to sign in and stay signed in. I’ve done everything I know to sign in and stay signed in. If you’re lucky enough to find a sign in link, when reading a story, beware about leaving the app because the minute you leave the app they sign you out. And then you can’t sign back in.

Can’t login. Unable to login and magazine has been steadily getting too “woke” for us. What happened to articles about music, artists and art? Why do we need to know your stance on politics?! What used to be a great read about our favorite artists and their works, has now turned into agenda pushing. No thanks. This crap app just puts the cherry on top for canceling my subscription. I won’t be back.

App does not work. The app just stays on a red screen and never "opens." Deleted and reinstalled multiple times. It's basically a scam - subscribe to a red screen!

Very good but could be glitchy. I love Rolling Stone magazine!! The only problem is this app could a glitchy sometimes.

App doesn’t work. The app just doesn’t work

Archived and Downloaded Magazines lost in New App. Opened the new app and I’m bombarded by every digital posting. Where are my archived and downloaded magazines now?

No Landscape Version. My iPad sits on a stand with a keyboard. There is not setting for landscape. So I have to tip my iPad sideways and awkwardly try and “enjoy” articles. It can’t be hard to offer this? What gives. It is a horrible iPad experience.

Searching?. It would be cool if you could search for articles.

Keeps getting worse. I'm a print subscriber who used to enjoy digital access as well. I could download the digital version before my print copy arrived. I could flip through & enjoy the interactive features until the print version arrived, though I preferred to read the articles in the actual magazine. After the most recent update, it took over a week to restore my previous purchases. And when I got them back, it was without any of the features I had enjoyed before. Adding to that, there's an issue that the app insists that I need to pay for even though I've been a continuous subscriber. I no longer get notification when there's a new issue available. Tonight I went to download the latest issue,it wanted me to pay for the issue. After signing out & signing back in, I had lost my entire library. Since restore purchases still doesn't work, I'm in the process of downloading each issue one at a time. Again. And to top it all off, when I do try to read the digital version, there's no way to save my place.

App won’t open, no way to contact. I’m reviewing because they won’t respond on messenger and there is no other way I can find to report that the app stopped opening on my phone last week. I love this publication and used the app multiple times daily.

Wasted Money: App Does Not Work at all with Current iOS release on iPad. Rolling Stone Magazine app has not been updated in a year per App Store and does not work with current iOS release on iPad. When opening the app it shows a completely red screen with “Rolling Stone” printed in middle of screen and is otherwise completely frozen. Called Apple Tech Support after deleting and reloading app. They refunded my remaining app subscription and advised I purchase a new subscription to resolve the problem. Purchased a new subscription and same problem. If there is still a software development team working on this app out there somewhere can you please update it to work with current Apple iOS and iPad and notify subscribers when it is safe to purchase a subscription.

So much better!. The new design of this app is so much better than the old version!! This is what I would expect from Rolling Stone.

Worked great 2 days ago. Don’t know what you did but it no longer loads. Please fix whatever you did

First-Rate Content, Miserable App. It’s a shame, really. Rolling Stone was the perfect magazine to adopt the bells and whistles of a truly digital edition. You could put ears to the featured artist playlist without the hassle and legwork of seeking out each track yourself. The issue’s reviews were just a click away for your own consideration. Navigating the stories was always intuitive and enjoyable. It was quite possibly, in this writer’s opinion, the gold standard and the point of a periodical even offering a digital-only subscription. Enter the new and suddenly lack-luster Rolling Stone “App” — read: PDF clone-viewer. The once splendid and feature-rich digital edition now reduced to a shell of its former glory, no more usable than looking at a print copy through a window five feet away. You can still zoom, edging it arguably closer to the adjective legible. But should you decide to do so and then have the audacity to scroll through a multi-column article that way, be prepared to restart your enjoyment of that particular article by selecting it from the app’s main menu. Scrolling seems to be more difficult a task for the app to manage, crashing it often enough to reconsider your stance on the ease of digital subscriptions. I understand that publishers have to do what they have to do. But it’s a shame, really, to have learned what it felt like and seen what it looked like to thumb through a proper digital magazine.

Disappointing. No way to search archives.. I got a Rolling Stone subscription to read older articles. I got the app to avoid some of the janky issues with the website. But there’s no easy way to find older articles with this app. It’s fine if you want to read the current content or you enjoy browsing year by year, but terrible for accessing some of the best historical music journalism of the last 60 years.

Won’t load. Open app to nothing but a frozen red screen. Is this the red screen of death? Going on for weeks, what’s up?

Dud.. App opens with a red screen and stays that way. No response. Download again.. ditto. Over and over, same result… nothing. GARBAGE

App fails to load. App launches but hangs on startup. Gives no indication of progress or any activity. Too bad because it used to be a good one.

Awesome app!!. I love this new version!! It is so simple to use, and it’s great to be able to read the articles with ease! Also Lists are amazing!

Not working. Just a red screen. For 2 weeks. “Customer support” does not exist. Suggests “Apple support”, who could care less. Could read RS on the web if it wasn’t 90% auto play video ads even for paying subscribers.

No Way To Login - Useless. I am a print & digital subscriber and am unable to access content or read articles. The digital subscription and this app are useless. Obviously there’s a huge disconnect between account subscriber management and the developers of this (cr)app. Don’t waste your time subscribing or downloading this.

Red Screen of Death. App hangs at Red Screen and will not load - 2 months and counting with no apparent resolution.

Fraudulent App. App does not work and Apple will charge you for subscription and then not refund your money when you find out the app does not work. Rolling Stone and Apple are scamming customers with this app.

Rolling Stone Con. I’ve been a Rolling Stone subscriber for years, with both print and digital access. With this latest app update I lost all digital access. According to Rolling Stone customers service I have to pay for the digital content of this app even though I already pay for digital access through my print subscription. Rolling Stone is truly a reflection of today’s culture. One big con job.

So disappointed. Absolutely worthless app. Delete reload. Nothing works. Just as well. Been reading RS since the early 70’s. Hardly a shadow of its former self. Gone so far downhill. Shameful.

Nice app - clunky for current subscribers. I am a print subscriber and was also very frustrated that I had to purchase a digital subscription. I did discover that Rolling Stone refunds the unused portion of your print subscription so I canceled that online and subscribed digitally in-app. This took a leap of faith (and will result in a one issue overlap) but it is not as dire as I first thought. I subscribe to other magazines that require that I receive the paper copy and, personally, that is more annoying to me than just getting digital alone. If you do want both for one price then, yes, this model is annoying. Arguably, Rolling Stone should make it easier on current print subscribers to evaluate the digital version (with at least a few free issues and an option to make the switch in-app). Despite a slightly broken purchase model that risks frustrating their most loyal current subscribers, the app itself is nice and the magazine 'pops' on the iPad. I couldn't read the print version without the iPad handy for looking up music and videos as I read. The digital version allows me to enjoy the read without balancing a magazine on one knee and the iPad on another. Snippets of music and links to more info on the RS website make digging deeper even easier. If you are willing to go all digital and don't mind the hassle of canceling online, I would recommend the app. Rolling Stones subject matter lends itself very well to a more interactive digital experience.

Why even have an app?. Though I am a paying subscriber I have no way of logging in. This app is beyond pointless, it is maddening!

Dead App. Nice red screen. #1 Fix the App #2 Fix the App #3 Allow landscape rotation on iPad

Keeps sending popups to allow notifications!. I turned OFF notifications because I dont want them, it wasn't an error. Now, every time I open the app, there is an annoying popup wanting me to turn on notifications, and even a link to take me to the settings! I’m almost to the point where I just cancel the subscription and delete the app.

No method of logging in. A gave 2 stars because the previous version was so bare bones. Seems like some thought was put into new layout. However, there is no way to USE the new version because you cannot log in/link account. Furthermore, if you contact them, no one knows who owns the new app, and you get the runaround. After four times I finally got a hold of someone who seemed to know about the issue. They took my email and said they’d get back to me in a couple business days. That was more than 2 weeks ago.

Horrible. I pay for a digital subscription and this so called app only shows a red screen & logo. Nothing else!!

Magazine Buried, Unusable. The app took a giant step backwards. The focus is now “online content,” and the magazine itself it buried on the last tab with no way to navigate through its table of contents — the only option now is an awkward scroll through every page. Worse, there is no way to save where you left off in an article, even if you just leave the app for a minute. Without the ability to get cozy with deep reads of the magazine, the app is just basically a website of tabs and links, but less elegantly usable than an actual website.

A giant leap backwards for the magazine. A few years ago you updated the magazine interface from what was basically pdfs of each page to a very usable interface. Articles again scrolled and the text was such that they could be easily read. You are back to what is basically a pdf of text so small it is unreadable. Requires you to expand portions of the page and then watch it float around while you try to read it. What happened???

Utter crap. I paid for the mag, downloaded the app and, 10 minutes later, was still staring at a red, cover screen. Apparently Jann Wenner wrote the program for this app, turning it into crap like everything else he touches.

App issues. I love the RS app when it works. Right now I’m deleting it & adding it again. Red screen is all I get.

No landscape mode?. Missing this key element, especially useful on iPad

You simply don't care about your loyal readers. Every other magazine I subscribe to allows me to adjust the text size but Rolling Stone. You've shrunk the type so small it's unreadable. You have apparently done away with the interactive features that used to exist. And finally, to make matters worse, you require print subscribers to buy a digital subscription too to have digital access, unlike virtually every other magazine in existence. As a result of the deficiencies and your failure to address these concerns voiced by thousands of subscribers besides me, I will not renew either of these subscriptions until you address these concerns. Read the reviews on iTunes and you'll see I'm not alone. Despite many, many people raising similar concerns, you do nothing which leads to only one, inescapable conclusion: you simply do not care about your customers. So, count me among the many, recent former subscribers. Let me know when you start caring about the people that actually buy your product, and I'll consider another subscription. Sad part is, I really love the content, but that love is substantially outweighed by my hatred of your obvious disdain for your customers.

Broken app. The app hasn’t worked for a couple months. Apple referred me to Rolling Stone customer service, which keeps telling me they’re escalating my complaint to the IT department and they’ll get back to me. Then — nothing. Disappointing. I’m a longtime Rolling Stone subscriber, and they’re better than this. Meanwhile, I had to install a pop-up blocker so I can read the web version of the magazine without the constant, annoying pop-up ads.

Can't get search to work. I am a brand new subscriber and find the new content interesting, but I can't get the search feature to work.

Update makes this so much better. The app is snappy and the content is great. I love it this update

Great digital adaptation. Don't get why people with a mag subscription are even bothering to buy a digital version of the same mag they get in the post every month.... The whining in reviews about standard practice of all major magazine apps is tiresome. Cancel your print sub... Logic. I think that's sort of the point of many of these publications going digital. Print is dying, time to transition people into the new era. I love buying Rolling Stone (among other music publications) when I'm traveling....but purchasing this app makes so much more sense, as I get to enjoy every month's addition now, and I save money ofc, by not paying stand prices + no magazine to carry around and lose before I'm done with it. Digital magazines just make sense, because I always found myself wishing I could listen to the songs being reviewed as I read. With this app I can do that, watch interview/trailers (just overall get more content) and be directly linked to downloads ect. Everything looks great, navigation is easy, no major technical glitches...not much more to ask for really.

Good app. In general is a good app, but some time is glitchy and you have to reinstall it to make it work

Sorry to see you go RS. Cancelled my subscription. The only reason I subscribed to the IOS version is that it was an interactive version. If I wanted to read a PDF version that's too small to read on an iPad screen, I could just torrent it. If you come back, I'll come back. In the mean time, I'll read you on your website.

Rolling Stone Magazine. A terrific magazine. The layout suits the Ipad perfectly.

Finally.... I've been waiting forever for Rolling Stone to get an app and they finally did. It's a great interface, the issues are interactive versions of the magazine and not just PDF versions like some magazine apps. Great app and for now, I haven't noticed any bugs.

Error. Can not load an issue. Error every time. Does this app not work in Asia?

Excellant. It was about time RS went digital !

Can't access subscription. I paid for online subscription to this magazine . However the app is so poorly designed that I cannot download any editions. Something is definitely wrong with it as I have no problem with any of my other magazine apps.

New format. This was a perfect app until the format changed with the December 31 issue. Now the print is too small to read without using the iPad zoom feature, which doesn't make for an ideal experience. Go back to the old format RS! If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Rolling Stone app. I totally love this app! To me, it's better than the print version. The interface is flawless and the images on the retina display are exquisite! Great app! Great price! Great extras!

I want my money back!. Since last update app crashes whenever I try to navigate the magazine. Neither Rolling Stone nor Apple offers any solution...or refund!!

Piece of crap. Latest update won't let me download new issues. No support. No help.

Don't do it !. Don't waste your money. Last two issues font is to small to read.

Nat. Superbe. Ce livre interactif est vraiment bien.

So dissatisfied..... I have been completely unable to access any issues since October 2018. I have tried restoring purchases, reinstalled the app, and have contacted the publisher several times. I really like this magazine, but I will have no choice but to cancel my subscription in March. Even then, I feel RS owes me a refund ....

What rubbish is this. Shameful organization, was once the wave, became a betrayal to American culture.

Luv RS but troubles with app. This iTunes subscriber has trouble from time to time viewing new issues...had to reload app...wish it could get fixed

Finally!. Glad to see RS come to the newsstand. Great value and same great content!

Don’t Bother. Read online for free, or pay with this app.

A lot better than the printed version!. I really recommend this app and subscribing to the magazine! Not only it is more fun but there seems to be no subscriptions for Canadian rolling stone magazines! This is the best option for Canadians for sure!

Not bad. Been waiting a long time to see Rolling Stone available this way. App works pretty well. Fairly small download size. Does not do landscape orientation....why not?

Great content - lousy app. You need to restore constantly which may - may not work. Landscape mode poorly supported.

Purchases lost. Not impressed...can't access two years of past purchases. Please fix

Rolling Stone app. Timely stories , always right on the mark - good information on new bands . I did get help with an app problem and the fix worked!

Amazing!. This app is well put together and has yet to fail and close itself on me. Embedding of songs to listen or buy in their review pages is very convenient and the app's look and feel is very crisp. Other magazines should be looking to this app as a template for their own.

Better than the print magazine. The pictures are brighter and sharper than the magazine, and the addition of playable song snippets tied to album and singles reviews is another plus. This is a very satisfying app that offers an experience similar to print with the multimedia of a website, while being superior to both. If I had one wish, it's that RS would open up its archive to subscribers the way the New Yorker and the NYTimes has.

Awesome!. Love this app!!!

Doesn't work with iOS 8. I had no issue with the app on iPad Air with iOS 7, but since I upgraded to iOS 8 I no longer have access to my magazines. I cannot download/open them. Please fix it.

Smarten up!. I can't access my subscription with the latest update. The reduction in font size from the previous update was too great and unnecessary.

Nothing more than a PDF reader. Rolling Stone had a great app with an interactive iPad edition for a long time. Every story was formatted perfectly for the iPad screen with no zoom required. I really enjoyed reading it over the past couple years. With this latest edition, all you get is an exact copy of the print issue on a much smaller screen. This means you have to zoom in to read anything, which makes for a tiring (and annoying) reading experience. What's worse is that after re-downloading my previous favourite issues, I've discovered they've been replaced by versions in the new format.

Newest version terrible. First off, the last two issues were unreadable as they were formatted like the print edition instead of the old digital edition. The microscopic text couldn't even be enlarged. Though the text can now be enlarged in the latest fix, it's still formatted like the print edition instead of for an iPad, and you can no longer listen to music samples in the reviews and recommendations sections like you used to. The digital-formatted version of the past was so vastly superior I don't understand the change. Complete bunk. I've subscribed for years but will not renew.

Rolling stone. Same! App is glitchy. I can download 2 or 3 new issues then the app locks up and I'm unable to load any more issues. I then have to delete the app and re download it just to access my previous issues as well as new ones. It's too bad, the content and image quality of the issues is great. I love reading Rolling Stone but these performance issues for this app need to be resolved!

Total joke. I hate rolling stone digital. Latest iOS update and everything goes to hell. I cant sign in because i bought my subscription through itunes. I have no idea whats goin on. Hate.

Great app. It's great to read and listen to clips at the same time. Definitely adds to the experience.

Better than the hard copy. It was a long time coming, but worth the wait. Great use of photography and audio. Same great content as the magazine with bonus links to audio and video content.

Junk App. This app is junk. First off it uses flash? Sorry guys, but for an entertainment magazine get in the know... There's a hot new device called an iPad! Second, the left margins are hide the text on the linked features and you're unable to read your article! No problem I thought, I'll just goto the help area of the app, but low and behold, the bottom of the scroll doesn't stay locked at the bottom so once you plug in all of your info you can't select the iPad check nor can you actually hit send. There are way better independent free music magazine apps out there with less tee shirt adds and more up to date content, so save your $20 and go buy so music! Cameron Crowe.

Something's wrong with it. I can't access the magazine I have an account and I know the password but it won't let me in to get my new issues big waste of 20$

Horrible App!!!. Great magazine but don’t bother subscribing. Using the app is a nightmare. After paying you cannot log in to the app to read the magazine. Better off reading everything for free.

App Crashing. Ever since I paid $19.99 for a year subscription the app crashes. Won't ever open. Only crashes. Please fix. Would rate 5 star if I could open it. Oct. 20, 2013 - still crashing/won't download

App is junk garbage piece of crap.. It’s August 11 and still don’t have latest issue what gives?

Wtf. Rather broken. Can't even exit out of the app? Wtf

WTF - what the font. I need a magnifying glass to read it now.

Rolling Stone Magazine app. This is a frustrating app. It tells me it won't opeN because I need to free up space, but there is not much stuff on my iPad. So I am not sure what the solution is.

Now a terrible app.. Now they fixed the size problem but all past issues are taken away! Plus when you re-open the app, it does not take you to where you were but starts with the cover shot again. I even had to re download the issue again. Signed up for one month only. Then I will delete the app altogether.

Used to work. Not sure why, but now the app will open to a page with no menu or options. It used to work fine. Update needed?? If this isn’t fixed, you should refund my subscription.

Restore now works. I still lost last year purchases (2014). I like the magazine but I will not renew. $5 price increase, lost issues buggy app. Too much of a hassle restoring every time you update the app. Time to roll on...

Now junk, change it back please!. We use this app on our iPad, used to be really good but recently lost all of the interactive mobile-friendly features. Font size is unbearable! Seriously? Why go backwards? Was this a cost saving measure? Well it's a horrible mobile reading experience now. Likely won't renew.

Purchases gone. Where have my purchased issues gone? Please fix this issue asap. I had hoped to renew for another year but not if my issues go missing.

Can’t view articles without subscription. Used to enjoy this site

this is bs. I subscribed to rolling stone a while ago..every time I try to read it they want more $.....booooo!!!

Font way too small!. I need a magnifying glass to read it!

Worst app I've ever had to use. This app and the service and support I have not received make this the worst I have ever had to use for one of the best and most favorite of my magazines. Why can't it hold the last page I was reading, for instance? And why has it all of a sudden been crammed into such a small space? The earlier versions were so much better, and I never had the problems that I have had with this one. And one of the issues took two months of hassling the support service before it was finally downloadable. Fix the problems or I'm not renewing. I'd rather read the print version.

Print Subscribers Pay? No Way.. Like a previous reviewer, I have a lifetime sub to RS. Apple has been advertising the iPad Mini do the back of RS for months and just now we get the app. But it's not useful to me, because I have to have a second subscription to use the app. Uh, I don't pay for the print version: why would I want to lay out for this? All my Time-owned magazines do both for the print price. I have Time, Real Simple, and Entertainment Weekly all in Newsstand. RS is the only one that I still read in print. Actually, Nat Geo did the same thing, but I just went digital when my sub expired. Can't do that with RS's lifetime deal. Bummer. It would be nice to be able to resort to my iPad when my kids steal my print copy.

Finally.... I am a print subscriber to RS and i've been waiting what has seemed like forever for this app. So excited to see it! I know it takes a lot to get such a thing up and running, so I paid for the digital subscription, but mainly because my print subscription will end soon anyway. The app needs a little tweaking, as the layout runs off screen, but the sound content is a nice touch. Now if only the archive issues of RS were in this app, I would return and give it five stars!

Looks good, but I am not buying both. I have been a print subscriber for 20 years. But, my subscription is winding down. I want to be a be able to read on my iPad, but the full issue interface on the website that subscribers can view is poor. So, I will not renew my print subscription and try this it for a period of time. Too bad.....I love the print version...keeping the "100 best..." issues for later reference, etc. But it is clearly not worth paying for both.

Wish I could give zero stars. Purchased an annual subscription last May. I was always curious about the login option because they never sent me any credentials after the purchase. I even went to RS's website to see if there was any option to email support over it. Nope. Now with the most recent update (16JAN2016) it requires logging in to access my account AND the restore purchases from iTunes doesn't work either. So basically here is where my subscription ends; i.e. 4 months short. I'm irritated that they can't seem to figure it out and annoyed that I'm robbed of $5. But then I remember how little I will miss seeing cover art featuring crappy boy bands like 5 seconds of summer (also RHCP did that already you wankers).

It's about time!. So far so good, I haven't found any major glitches yet. I'm sure updates will take place so issues such as font size will be adjustable. Some of the high graphical pages take a few seconds to kick in but I think it's well worth the wait. I am not outraged that I have to pay for this service. These things cost money to put together. Get real complainers! You got your wish....

Terrible "Update". What have you done RS?!?! I will join the chorus of current subscribers frustrated and annoyed by your app not restoring previous purchases/downloaded issues. Once this issue was resolved for me, what bothered me even more was that the magazine is now just a cheap PDF copy of the print version. How is this an update?? The digital magazine format was great, with an intuitive interface and clickable links to songs and videos; in 2016 why would you revert to an outdated, cheap, and lazier version? This decision to degrade your app has diminished the value of this once great magazine for me, and I will not be renewing my subscription if the true digital magazine format is not brought back.

This app CRUCIALLY needs to be updated. I have been using your app for years now because it is the only way I am able to read Rolling Stone magazine through my iPhone/iPad. In my recent years of using this app, I have been anticipating an updated release that is tailored towards the newer updates of iOS and the newest hardware updates for Apple’s iPhones. Time and time again, I have been disappointed with the user interface for the app and my reading experience for Rolling Stone magazine has diminished. The app severely needs to be updated and I need to feel the satisfactory rush of joy again when I have finished reading the latest issue of Rolling Stone. PLEASE UPDATE!! IM BEGGING YOU! I am honestly thinking about cancelling my subscription due to this situation because it’s not a solid reading experience anymore.

Come on RS...Be Fair. I have no idea if this app or the iPad version of Rolling Stone is any good because the publisher has taken a totally backwards approach to their digital version. I am a long term subscriber to Rolling Stone. I like receiving the print magazine. And it's easy for my wife to grab my copy when I'm not reading it. I tried to get the digital version on my iPad but RS sells that separately; not even a discount to add digital to my print subscription. Come on guys. I know publishers are struggling to remain profitable but don't charge me twice. I should be able to pay one price and then read your magazine in whatever format I choose. Digital is handy at night. I can read without turning on a reading light and disturbing my partner. And it's great to be able to carry a bunch of reading material when I take a trip. But I can't easily share the digital version with my wife. I want both for a single price. Don't make me choose.

Print Edition Exceeds It’s Former Glory, iOS Edition Still Disaapoints. This summer I was close to giving up on Rolling Stone after 30 years as a subscriber. Then, with the arrival of the June edition they won me back. Now that the print edition has been upgraded, how about doing the same for the iOS edition? The recurring issue that has been annoying subscribers who wants to enjoy RS on their iPads remain: I just renewed my subscription for another 2 years, yet I am once again faced with the inability to download the latest issue. Yes I know, if I play around with the “restore purchases” setting long enough it will eventually work. Come on, Rolling Stone, either get off the digital platform or provide us with a stable iOS edition.

Transition to digital. I have been a print subscriber for much of the last 30 years. This is a big leap forward and should replace my print subscription. It is simply better in every way. That said, it would have been nice to provide some price preference for existing print subscribers. But, whatever. I just won't renew the print subscription next time. Nice job on the app. So-so on the customer appreciation.

Awesome. The only thing I wish is that streaming full songs didn't take you to a new page and that you could turn the page and continue reading while listening to songs embedded on previous pages. But this is an awesome app, worth paying the additional amount over the print subscription price.

Could Not Be More Pleased. Have been experimenting with the new version of the RS app for three days. Couldn't be happier. Had always wanted a landscape ipad view...now have it. Had always wanted a phone application, particularly for a larger screen phone...now have it. Upon use, I find the permitted gestures to be both intuitive and useful. Great job RS, although the roll out was clumsy. Pleased to re-up my subscription.

It's not you (RS), it's them.... The bad review(s) are misdirected IMHO. Long time, first time...(subscriber/reviewer). I have no issue zooming in/out with pix and/or text, was able to read FAQ to determine the info needed off the print version to use digital, seamless move to iOS9 despite the drastic differences in app interface. They sound like the typical Jo(e) tech consumer; if it doesn't work how or the way they expect, it must be broke. Rather than read a FAQ, they post a review based on their understanding to the one place people may actual give a quick read. Did you mean to subscribe to Highlights?

Could be better. I like the editorial content of RS and it's articles. The current iPad app leaves much to be desired. To read an article I need to constantly 'enlarge' a page to be able to read it and then shift it around to move through the article. Former version allowed you to pull up the article text which was so much easier and iPad friendly. I have had to remove and reload the app twice as previous editions of RS could not be viewed. The cover appeared in the library but when I went to view it, it was blank. Very frustrating. Some articles that I have bookmarked 'to save' often go blank, forcing me to remove and reload. This app was better at one time and it was 'improved' but could not prove it by me. It was not broken, why was there an attempt to fix it?

Good. Most bad reviews are from RS print subscribers upset about not being able to access the iPad version at no extra charge. I agree with this point, but the current 2-star reflects poorly on a rather nice app. The magazine is straightforward and really easy to navigate. Swipe horizontally to move between stories, and swipe vertically to explore content. Audio previews are a cool idea, though i haven't tested them yet to see if they work well. As far as I can tell the content is identical to the print edition. My one qualm has to do with web content- I'm on an iPad Mini, and the built in web browser crops the content on the right side of the screen. Fortunately, it's easy enough to open these pages in Safari, but it would be nice to see an update addressing this. Thankful to have Rolling Stone on my iPad!

Just Dumb. This is one of the goofiest apps I've seen. It won't accept an annual subscription using a valid iTunes ID and password. I called iTunes for help and they told me to call Rolling Stone. I called RS and they told me to call iTunes. I tried to force the subscription to work by buying one issue, which worked, but this is not exactly what I wanted. I got help with the Report an Issue area and they lectured me. No joke. They told me not to do it again, but did not solve the problem. I waited a couple days and tried the annual subscription again, it worked (glitch fixed?). I downloaded the current issue at the time (DiCaprio on cover), read the issue, etc. Went back today to download the latest issue and it's back to thinking that I don't exist. The prior mag is not in my library and it wants me to subscribe, again. But do iTunes or RS seem to care, nope. And how is the magazine subscription business doing these days?

No prob!!!!!!. Attention all rolling stone readers..this app is here and will change how the conversion from paper to screen. Me and mine are getting cabin fever and what better to stop petty irritations than music, entertainment, and a fresh look at AMERICAN culture. The history of Rolling Stone magazine is one that still needs to pass from parents to kids.....'cos REALLY u ain't an American teen unless you are blasting your generation music from your angst ridden bedroom while reading Rolling Stone. The mode of communication may change but I hear the message load and clear.

My Review. 5 stars as an iPad mag, great features, next level, etc. 1 star for not getting paper and digital subscriptions together LIKE OTHER MAGS. It is bad enough that you can NOT share digital subscriptions on more than one iPad in a household... it is not beyond the limits of todays technology that in a household with unlimited iPads (or people), only one iPad could use this app at any given time, like with a paper magazine. Yes, a lot of words...now an executive can actually understand a two star review that is positive about the product, but not your standards of subscription.

RS app not worth it, which is unfortunate. Worst app. I get better coverage and articles through their social media. I had hoped app and online subscription would send me notifications and updates on published works. It does not. Downloads take up space, doesn't download properly, makes you go through each magazine edition separately, confusing digital menu, doesn't keep me signed in & overall not a great app honestly, which is unfortunate bc I paid money and am getting nothing. And RS has been a standing favorite publication of mine. Please make this a better app. It's just awful.

What a rip off to loyal customers!. I have been a Rolling Stone print subscriber for about ten years. I have been hoping they would put out an iPad edition for a while now and was very excited to finally see one a month or so back. At least until I discovered it was not going to be included with my existing subscription. What a rip off! I also subscribe to Entertainment Weekly and don't have to pay extra for the iPad edition. And I know there are many many other magazines on here that are free with an existing subscription too. I was hoping it was just an oversight by RS and would be fixed in the first update, but that's out now and you still have to pay twice. Which I certainly won't be doing. At least I can still access RS on my iPad through Safari. But it would certainly have been nicer to have it conveniently located in my Newsstand app.

The RS APP Is Total Garbage. I have to add my voice with the overwhelming majority of this APPs negative reviews. The first 2-3 years of the digital version of Rolling Stone were fine with nary a hitch. Then suddenly, about three years ago, all hell started breaking loose. Issues wouldn’t download, I couldn’t log in (after mysteriously being logged out), getting ahold of someone to help was an impossible and mind-numbing experience. I was so frustrated that I decided my subscription wasn’t worth the pain and just deleted the APP, halfway through the annual period, which I already paid for. (I was concerned that I would be automatically re-subscribed, but thankfully that did not happen.) This scenario happened about 2 years ago, but I surmise it’s still a nightmare. Sad, too, as I was a decades-long reader of the mag. The experience turned me off to it. (I get what I want from the free online abridged version.)

Poor implementation. The beauty of the iPad is to be able to view in any orientation. Rolling Stone falls down on this account as you are forced to use portrait only. And here's a nit. While viewing the FAQ, the screen did not resize to accommodate the ad they insisted in showing me which forced the content I was trying to read off the edge of the tablet and off course I wasn't allowed to scroll right or left to view the content. Does the app display the magazine contents?? Yes, but the app is poor. My local paper's app is far superior. This is a poorly conceived, poorly implemented app.

Rolling Stone: cultural lightening rod. I have thoroughly enjoyed my subscription to this biting, insightful and up to the moment news source. The pop and music gossip and glossies caught my attention, but the fearless and honest journalism ( mostly) has me reading my issues cover to cover. I have a modest interest in staying relevant at age 58, and Rock and Roll was the culture that I grew up in, so I enjoy sampling the new artists, whether or not I like them. I would recommend this magazine to discerning ex-hippe wanna bees and former YUPPIE scum types everywhere.

Problems when linking to online content. Paying twice notwithstanding, the app isn't bad for a first try but it has a glaring problem: when linking to online content from in-app links, the resulting pages are skewed so all printed content is unreadable. The left side of the pages are too far over so the beginnings of sentences are all cut off. This even happens with Rolling Stones' own FAQ pages from the dedicated button at the bottom of the App. Ridiculous. How did the designers miss this? PS. I posted 2 stars with this review. It has since been changed by someone else to 5 stars. Not by me. I wonder who?

Very Disappointing!. I love Rolling Stone (and have for decades) but want to register my extreme dismay over the BIG FAIL decision to deliver the iPad version of the 'zine as basically a photocopied replication of the print version. The type is now unreadably small and (far worse) the elimination of interactive features debases the e-publication. The inabilty to engage with the material or listen to clips (and the loss of the sometimes "Just Plain Fun!" qualities of previous e-versions) is a glaring absence and those qualities are sorely missed. Bring back the design that previously made Rolling Stone (along with National Geographic and the NY Times) one of the "poster children" we would turn to that highlighted the enhanced qualities of a truly online publication to anyone who ever asked "Why is this better than the print version?" Please reverse course here - it's an embarrasing degradation and it tarnishes the brand.

Irritated no more. Paid for a digital subscription but now being asked to pay for the latest issue too. Call me irritated, and please fix it. Also, some content on the customer service page is unreadable because some of the type is outside the edge of the screen, and I cannot even swipe over to see it. Update, contacted customer service by e-mail, prompt response, problem fixed, like the digital version.

Double dipping. Hey, you're a loyal rolling stone subscriber who is excited to be living in the digital age. You have a print subscription, but you left your hard copy on the bathroom floor and now you're at the dentist waiting for your root canal. Want to finish that awesome half-read article by Taibbi on your phone/tablet? Too bad. You'll have to buy the magazine again! Yes, that's right, your subscription doesn't count when it comes to this app. Rolling Stone wants you to be either a full Luddite or full 21st century digital humanoid. You can't be both - unless of course you want to pay Jann twice ...

So much potential, so poorly done. Not an Update! A downgrade. They've gone and made this app worse. It's just a blurry PDF now- for the same price! There is no magazine better suited for digital than rolling stone. What a disappointment. To make matters worse, they're charging the same price for this pdf as they were for the app!!! I've cancelled as of today. I've been subscribing to Rolling Stone for at least 30 years (yeek) and I've been waiting for an iPad version since the first iPad. Can you imagine what a great Rolling Stone app could be? Deep dives into artists history and back catalogs, full streams of songs on the albums reviewed, interactive stories with live maps, interviews, anything to add insight. Instead what we get is nothing much more than a glitchy PDF. Please, Jenn, check out the Esquire app or the wired app and see what a magazine app can be. Also have the sense to include the app with the print subscription. Nobody should have to pay for the same content twice.

Finally, well done. After suffering through the Zinio version, I had finally let my RS subscription expire after 20 years. This is the digital version as it was meant to be, well-built, fast and with music samples to make its Recordings section vital. I understand the frustration of the print subscribers because other magazines had done that to me before getting their acts together on full access subscriptions. Hopefully RS will fix that soon.

Demand for extra $ from print subscribers makes no ¢.. Hey, Rolling Stone advertisers, do you want to get your ads seen in more places by more people? If so, you should advertise somewhere else, because RS is determined to make iPad access as painful as possible for its print subscriber base. That's right: If current subscribers want to read issues both in hard copy and digital form, they have to pony up extra for the iPad edition. What percentage of subscribers do you suppose would go for that? One percent? Two, maybe? Contrast: Print subscribers to The New Yorker can download years' worth of issues they might never have received in the mail. Such service makes the magazine's premium subscription rate easy to justify. Generosity begets generosity; cheapness begets cheapness.

Good and bad. Here is the problem: The Good - The App is amazing. It has interactive menus. Sub sections with extra photos, side reference notes and external links that you just tap and go..........all of which are not available or even possible in the print add. But the cherry on the icing are the sound bites of the tracks, right next to the reviews. So you can listen to the tracks as you read the reviews. Brilliant. The Bad - unlike every other large publication, RS charges you for both the printed hard copy and the digital App. Not cool guys.

Love this App!. I subscribed to Rolling Stone for years, but after I got married, started my own business, had a baby....Rolling Stone kind of bite the dust as far as a priority. But FINALLY they made the app! Now I am back in the swing of things with ole Rolling Stone! I feel like I am more up to date with show business and current events. Rolling Stone App has the same great content as the print mag, but it fits better now into my life style. Barney Wood

Great Magazine now a great app!. I've always been a fan of Rolling Stone magazine and was wondering when they would have an app in Newstand. I love this magazine and the app is fantastic. It has never crashed on me and I love the interactive magazine features. I think the only reason that it has received bad reviews is not because of the app itself but because present subscribers don't get this digital one for free. If I were a present subscriber I would be kinda miffed too but not enough to bash the whole app. So if you like Rolling Stone Magazine and are looking for a more interactive experience with it. Get it for the Ipad. Seems like the Ipad was made for it.

Bad app. I have enjoyed Rolling Stone for years, and this app does not suit the magazine. 2/3rds of the way into my year long subscription it’s not allowing me to download the new issue...it’s making me purchase it. I reached out to Rolling Stone to fix it, and they said it was Apple’s problem to fix because I bought my subscription through iTunes. I reached out to Apple, went through their “tests”, and they said it was the app developer’s problem to fix. Enough...enough of passing the buck...even if it’s all accurate. I’ll stop reading this magazine now.

This is a great app, regardless of what the print subscribers say. I used to subscribe to the print issue for years but canceled when the iPad digital age came to life. Who needs to waste all that paper? Well, it took them long enough but Rolling Stone has finally issued a digital version worthy of paying a subscription. It's easy to navigate and easy to read. And it's only $20 a year. It seems that most of the negative reviews are from print subscribers who are annoyed that they are being charged additional money for a digital version. Well, sorry, that's how it works. I'm paying for the digital version so how come I don't get free access to the print version?

Good App; Non-Print Subscriber. App is good. Very magazine-like. Easy to read. One minus is no horizontal view. What's up with that? Would much rather read with the tablet on a stand, horizontally, than have to hold the tablet, portrait style, to read. Otherwise, good graphics quality, well laid out. Have not been a previous print subscriber so don't have a dog in the fight over whether or not previous hard-copy subscribers should be able to access for free online.

Not free with print subscription. I'm a long time print subscriber on auto renew which is also auto renew so now I have to figure out how to cancel my print subscription. It's only $20 but I have to admit I thought about it before I downloaded this app. That said, great app and I love the links out to music so I can hear what the reviewer is talking about. Previously I had to log onto something else and run my own search to listen before I buy. Nice layout, easy to use. Love the new app. I'd give it 5 stars except for what feels like a double ding since all my other magazines with a reader allow for sign in with print subscription or a lesser annual fee for electronic only.

Solid app. If you like Rolling Stone, this app is for you. Pretty cool holding the latest issue of RS in your hands on your iPad! However, I would like rolling stone to cover a little wider variety of music. For example, where is the cover story or even the review of the new Lady Antebellum record? Didn't see the new Jeff Lynne or ELO reissues reviewed either. And RS always ignores CCM music as well. How about at least a mention about the new record from the great Amy Grant! But I do enjoy the app!

Love new digital issues of a classic Mag. I have subscribed to the digital version of Rolling Stone before thru the Zino appt. It was just like the paper version. The interactive features of this new and improve app are brilliant. It is great to read about an artist or song and be able to listen to it at the same time. The negative reviews of this app that I have read seem to be subscription related only. I did not have these issues fortunately. The features and quality of the app are worth recommending and trying it out in person. Easy to use features and choice of navigation are a plus for sure. After the experience of this app, it would be very difficult to go back to the print version.

Great digital music mag. Now, I'll start by saying I was never a print subscriber that transitioned over, so I can't speak for those situations. I think this is a great digital magazine with awesome content. I've always loved Rolling Stone's articles and reviews. Good interactive features like listening to music while it's being reviewed. I've found a ton of great musicians through this mag and their reviews. Worth the price.

Terrible. This app is really buggy, and honestly one of the most low effort apps I have ever seen. They don't update and apparently don't listen to their subscriber base. I've been able to sign in once, when I first downloaded it almost two months ago. I subscribed and was able to download one issue before it crashed on me. I was signed out and I have not been able to sign back in since. I keep it on my phone so I can try over and over to restore my purchases to no avail. And the best part is, I keep getting billed for having a service I cannot access. Stick to the paper version.

Why can't you give zero stars to an app?. I've been a loyal reader for years, and as much as it pains me to delete this app, I must because I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO READ CONTENT THROUGH IT FOR OVER A YEAR. Have you tried to contact the app developer? Don't bother. The form doesn't work. The link to "Click here to see answers to the most frequently asked questions" doesn't work. So I'm going to email bomb every email address at Rolling Stone that I can to try and get them to get a decent app developer to provide a good app for their publication, because Werner Media, whoever they are, ain't it. The worst part is that Wenner Media is the owner/publisher of Rolling Stone, They clearly don't have the resources in-house to write a good app and provide proper support for it. I wish RS would look to the app writers for Wired or The Atlantic for a model that supports paid subscribers and allows free limited browsing for casuals.

Previously downloaded June 16, 2016 issue availability stopped with the July 1, 2016 issue download. I opened my app to read the June 16, 2016 (Hamilton) issue and then the Muhammad Ali (July 1, 2016) issue downloaded. The Hamilton issue has effectively been lost, because the little progress download wheel just spins. I hope that this app is fixed soon. Rolling Stone Customer Support has responded via email to my request for help in the past. As a reminder, they cannot fix digital subscriptions purchased through iTunes. We must contact iTunes support. For once could they pre-test updates before releasing them. Hopefully they will fix this app and access to the Hamilton issue soon.

Finally. Been wondering why RS was the one magazine missing from iTunes. Oddly the South African version was available but not the US version. Finally! I'm giving this 4 stars rather than 5 because it seems print subscribers don't have access, and that's simply unacceptable. Also it seems you have to agree to give your personal info to the publisher to get the free month. Lame. But as for the magazine itself, looks and works great on my iPad 4.

Thumbs down from Zinio reader. I have been a Zinio reader for a couple of years. I REALLY WANT to change my subscriptions to newstand for easy of use but other then that I have really found no reason to. With the Rolling Stone app I don't have access to the app on my phones (iphone or droid) and can not email or send an article to Dropbox for further reading. I also can not zoom into an article to increase the font size. Also in my Zinio app I have an easy to read text only option.

Fantastic!. Just read most of the current issue, and had to write to say how fantastic I think this digital version of 'Stone' is. So easy to read, no 'bugs' noticed and the photos are 'ridiculously' vivid/beautiful. I'm 'old school' in many ways, but I can see myself purchasing these digital issues from now on. Well Done!

Slap in the face!. I am loyal subscriber to Rolling Stone for over 10 years, and have been patiently waiting for an iPad app to enjoy the magazine. Well, it finally arrives and print subscribers are slapped in the face by not being able to apply their subscription to the iPad version. I am a subscriber of National Geographic and Golf Magazine, and both magazines allow print subscribers access to the digital version for no extra charge. Hopefully the big heads at Rolling Stone will come to their senses and make this happen, or I'll be canceling my print subscription soon, and you won't receive any further support from my wallet. Thanks.

RS has bet against the ipad?. Like many others, I loved the interactive ipad version that is now gone. And I, too, detest what is really a pdf version of the print edition. Put this together with the initial difficulty (now solved) of gaining access if we had bought our subscription via iTunes plus the fact that the app is now built by Zinio, and it seems clear to me that RS has determined that its future does not involve partnering with Apple. I suspect many will join me in just returning to print editions of publications that offer nothing unique for digital editions. And here, alas, will end the evolution of digital publishing of traditional magazines. Selling pdf copies is not digital publishing. It is just low-cost printing.

Incredible integration of text and multimedia. I don't write a lot of app reviews, but this one has really impressed me so far. It seems to take advantage of all the iPad was meant to do. It's amazing to me to read an article about the fact that 80-year-old Yoko Ono has a #1 dance hit and then listen to it right there; it's much more immersive than simply reading an article. I also use Zinio, but some magazines are just naturals to take advantage of the full iPad experience through their own app, and I believe Rolling Stone has nailed it.
