Gomez Adam's would love this- just crashes!. Oops!

Unclear how to get access to subscription. I subscribed to this magazine on my ipad. With the app update all the editions are locked. When I select one, it asks for a password. Password for what? I subscribed via in-app purchase on my ipad. Never set up a username and password for MR. In the IOS subscriptions it says I’m paid up through Feb 2020. I clicked a button to Restore Purchases, but nothing happened. Also in the app store the App support link is broken - gives a 404 not found page. Was this tested at all??

App is Completely Broken!. This version of the app does not work. Cannot restore all of my purchases. Cannot access my issues.

Preview issue. Some of my monthly previews have been deleted and I have not been able to reinstall them

Needs a Lot of Work!. The latest version of this app is a step backwards. While I have been able to restore and view my purchases, I have not been able to purchase a single issue since the update. When I attempt to purchase a single issue, I am often only given options to subscribe, or frequently no options at all. There are no features to view/filter on your purchases or downloads. Scrolling thru the list of available issues is buggy and slow. On top of all this, my requests to customer support have never been answered. I’m using a 32GB iPad (7th gen) with IOS 13.1.1

Crap App. I had an Android Galaxy S2-based subscription, but bought a new iPad Pro and the app doesn't work. Took my money, but says "iTunes failure." NOT ACCEPTABLE...fix this.

Broke what worked fine!. This has been a great app until the last update. Now it crashes and won't load. Please fix it ASAP!

Utterly Useless!. If MR is trying to go out of business then this app is a wonderful step in that direction. I am totally astonished that they would release an app this terrible! Did no one ever bother to test this thing? The update to this textbook example of how NOT to write an app has been up for 11 months and no one has bothered to fix this? Good bye Model Railroader! If you cannot take care of your customer base then you don’t deserve to have any customers.

Couldn’t access my magazines. This app is terrible. I couldn’t access my magazine that I paid. Please, fix it or my money back.

Update not working.... The last update on June 15 broke this App. It will not open. Was working fine until then. Please fix ASAP!!

Lost all past issues. I had dozens of previously purchased issues aside from a subscription. All issues are now locked and I cannot restore prior purchases. Please remedy this issue immediately. I have lost all confidence in the publisher. Will they refund me for all the list issues?

Doesn’t support existing digital subscriptions. I am a long-time subscriber to Model Railroader Magazine including paying extra for the digital versions. When I saw the MR App I assumed this would this would work as well as the Zinio platform through which I have access to my digital subscription. But no! I have to pay for digital issues in the MR app for which I have already paid. So, don’t get this app! Use Zinio. It’s free and works with existing digital subscriptions.

what did they do. this app used to work adequately but the last update made it unuseable

Good Application until you have a problem. I have been using this application for almost 2 years with no problems. Worked great up to when I tried to download the June 2016 issue. Was getting an error ‘xml file not found’ 3 calls to Kalmbach customer service and on 3rd call I was was told to call the digital provider. I said the problem is not mine and you need to call them. I was told they can not make outbound calls and gave me the number of the digital provider. Worse customer service experience ever. Will not be using this app or have a digital subscription through Kalmbach anymore.

Not Useful. This application only seems to support selling subscriptions via iTunes. I can’t use it to log in to my account and view issues.

Really, really bad. This version is much worse than the previous. It’s so bad that this is the first review I have ever submitted for any iPhone app...and I have used some pretty bad apps. I currently use an IPhone 8 Plus...the app crashes back to a main screen while trying to load. If it does load, it doesn’t load all of the past issue covers and when I click to download or read an issue, it freezes. It’s enough to just not bother with Model Railroader mag any more.

Lost everything.. Subscribed for 2 years, after last update of the app all my purchases are gone. Used to be good.

Started crashing every time I try to open it. I hadn't opened it in a few weeks and I tried to read an issue yesterday (17 Dec 2013) and it crashes on launch every single time.

Disappointed. Just a backorder catalog of MR. I was hoping this would be a iPhone friendly version of their website. Allowing me to watch videos, interact on the forum, etc. Not realizing it was only a catalog to purchase back issues of MR magazine. Disappointed.

Can’t access anything I’ve paid for. I can’t access any issues at all even though I have an active subscription. Apparently everyone is having this issue.

Won't work in iPads anymore. I too have been unable to view anything for over a month. Still waiting on an update that will actually let me open the app, let alone actually view he magazine I still get charged for.

Pure junk. I lost access to all the previous purchased issues. I do not have a model railroader login, I purchased everything through Apple. Your support team is less then useless in trying to fix this. Everytime I try to restore purchases with my Apple account, you dumb app just locks up. I want my issues restored or my money refunded.

Huge step backwards. Sadly the redesign is clunky and just bad, not mobile friendly at all and makes it darn impossible to find anything. I have also as yet been able to restore my purchases, highly recommend avoiding this app all together until they address the problems and the horrendous user experience.

Terrible app. The old app worked just fine. The new app won’t accept my username and password. Then when I tried to get specific app help from the help link in iTunes, the subsequent link to Kalmbach is broken. And the folks at Kalmbach claim it’s an iTunes issue.

My paid subscription doesn't entitle me to new months?. I paid for the paper/digital subscription away from the app and now when I look at this months digital edition it asks for payment, am I missing something?

It doesn’t work!. This app does not work. You are trying hard to save your print business by offering a combined digital subscription also, but your digital offering is garbage.

You lost a subscriber. After a year of putting up with these inefficiencies and no fixes from the MR staff, I have canceled my subscription to MR. This app has taken away the joy of reading the articles.

Bugs. Whilst the new version of the app looks really nice, restore purchases is not working so all my magazines are gone. Fix immediately please.

No. 1 Worst App in the World. Are you ever going to fix this app? Don’t waste your time/money on this app. You think they would get the hint that something is wrong since they have a 1.0 rating and no positive comments.

Junk. This is the second time I have everything! They give you free doors then they take them away! It does not merit a rating!!

Still broken! Just awful.. This app has been broken for over a month. Lots of iPad users have been reporting that it doesn't open, just crashes at launch. So instead of fixing it, they put out an "update" that resets the review counter but DIDN'T FIX THE APP. That's right, they issued an update that they must have known wouldn't solve the problem. Just trying to cover their butts. Seriously bad juju here. It costs $40 bucks for a subscription and we've now gone two issues that we can't open. Unacceptable in the extreme. I'm running an iPad Pro with all the latest updates. This problem is definitely on Kalmbach's end. When you've got one of the more expensive apps out there, you have a responsibility to make sure the thing works. DO NOT buy this app until the publisher fixes it.

Crash. Always crashes when i start the app

You’ve taken all my previously paid for issues. The last app was cumbersome not having a “search “ for the archives,! However this is even worse. Issues paid for have been taken. I ve been a subscriber for years. I won’t be back after being treated like this. Great solution to hear your customers, your app won’t post my review. Hopeless

App update is a disaster. You should refund not only our current subscription, but our past subscriptions since this app makes it ridiculously difficult to access issues we have paid for. This needs to be fixed immediately. I can’t believe you are just allowing this to continue.

Issues not displaying. I have tried for 24 hours to read the March 2013 issues. All it shows is some boxes and the network busy wheel. If I am unable to read soon I will want a refund.

Application inoperative. All, Buyers beware, Kalmbach has changed their delivery system and this app doesn’t work for new editions. Don’t sign up for a subscription!

XML File Missing. Same issue with an xml file missing. Tried to contact Kalmbach but getting the run around. Hope they fix this soon.

New Update Problems. All my purchases aren’t restoring. Please fix. With the new app, I try to log into my account and it won’t load.

Really Blew It. After years of reading Model Railroader, I’ve cancelled my subscription. This new app has been nothing but a problem, and after never getting help from customer support to download the latest issue, I’m done. And by the way, I’m in IT and know what I’m doing. The problems with this app aren’t user error, they’re the fault of a terrible app and zero customer support.

Still not fixed!. Jan 2019. Hire someone to get this to work. I paid for paper & digital. Have not received an issue on paper. (2 months) Digital is not working. Disappointed? Yes. At least I have O gauge modeler, their site does work. Easily.

My subscription does not work. I have an active subscription through trains.com (kalmbach) which does not work through this app. Disappointing.

Not the full package. Please note that when buying this you do not get the full subscription package. This is only the magazine and all the other benefits that a subscriber gets such as the download and videos from the site are not available. Quite disappointing that this is not pointed out at the time of purchase.

Crashes as soon as it launches.. Was 5 star...but crashes as soon as it launches. Disappointed as I have several issues on my account.

This new incarnation of a Class 1 app is now A Short Line with lousy ballast. What were they thinking? No longer have access to issues. Will no longer accept my login information, so MR and Trains were deceived by some bloody wally. The prats who recommended the changes are pilking wankers!

May 2020...Do not buy or download this useless app!!!!!. Update Sept. 30, 2020: Now over 11 months since the last update of this app, the one that broke the app and stole our paid for magazine issues from us. Absolutely no improvements or updates since then, no help or support from Kalmbach or Model Railroader staff and ni attempts to replace or refund our stolen, paid for online issues. Shame on you Model Railroader Magazine!!! You have been warned....do not buy or download this useless app. As of May 2020 there is no improvement...read on to find out the truth about this rip-off. This latest update, October 25 2019 is awful. All previous paid for and downloaded issues deleted so you are forced to re-download every previous issue you have already bought yet again. But worse than that you are forced to relog-in with your user name and password but there is no ability to recover or change your username or password if you forgot them!!!! So you end up with an unusable app that has deleted your paid for merchandise and no way to recover it. Complete Rip-Off by Model Railroader!!!!! Massive fail yet again by the staff at Model Railroader. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 Update: After numerous tries I was finally able to figure the hidden and convoluted way they have set-up password recovery. I can only shake my head at the sick minds that decided to over-complicate what should be a simple procedure. Now that I can actually log-in to my account I was finally able to re-download my previously bought editions of the mag. Unfortunately that just shows up the slow buggy and crappy u/i. Horrible!. Was a great app, has now been useless for many months since an update late 2019. Have cancelled my subscription. This was a good app at one time, what nonsense that Kalmbach has ruined it. No help from them either as it’s impossible to log in.

Very troublesome.. When I started using this app about 3.5 years ago, it was not that bad. Now it is a complete PITA! Issues I have long since paid for seem to come and go at will. I strongly suggest that you DO NOT USE THIS APP, NOR DEPEND ON Kalmbach standing behind their product. COMPLETE CRAP!

Was great, now horrible. I’ve invested a lot into my iPad collection, various special issues and subscribed for a year now. However, it took multiple attempts to simply access the latest issue (“restore purchases” was very slow) and I still haven’t been able to access any of my past catalog. This app used to be a great way to browse through my collect - now it might be all gone. Can’t express how frustrating this is. For a magazine that is trying to reach the younger generations, this latest update my just turn them (and me) off this publication for good.

Absolute crap!. I give it 1 star only because I don’t have the option to give it 0 stars. The app crashes IMMEDIATELY. Scrolling through the archive is reminiscent of surfing the web on a dial up modem in the nineties. If you forget your user name or password you are SCREWED. There are NO options to recover these from the app. If you already have a subscription like me (which I will DEFINITELY CANCEL) then I offer you my sincere condolences. If not; stay away. This app is complete garbage. If you work for Model Railroader; tell whoever decided to go ahead with the October update that they are an idiot. Model railroader, if you are attempting to reach out to a younger crowd with this digital platform then you are failing miserably. In summary: TOTAL CRAP.

Lost years of paid-for issues. All previous paid-for subscriptions and special issues are gone. The app freezes when you try to scroll back to re-download them. And the password it wants is NOT your current MR password but the one from the year of the purchase. UPDATE EDIT: 10 months later, no updates to disastrous app. As iOS has updated, MR app no longer even opens.

This is the way to do it. Having the magazine on your phone or iPad is amazing! They are gradually starting to release the special additions now which is wonderful. Tapping the ads if they have websites opens the ad, it's just better than the old way!
