Not even opening. It used to work well (as expected from a app with a simple function). Then it took forever to barely open and on top of that if worked slowly. Now it doesn’t open at all. I wonder if people who are responsible for this app are dead

A must have for a medical professional. Great messaging and communication features. Fantastic security and timesaver! If you are not using cortext you are wasting time that could be spent on patient care. Keep up the good work.

Terrible terrible. I am a physician and receive many cortexts every hour. When it beeps and I open the app, it takes another 3-5 seconds to load the message. This needs to be fixed. Also, with recent updates, the app has slowed down and seems to take additional couple seconds everytime you open the app to pull in directories. Cortext has to fix this as physicians already started using another app as we are fed up with poor performance of this app but still need to use this as nurses dont have another option.

Changes my day. Makes is so easy to call colleagues as opposed to using pagers. This is a simple yet so effective solution.

The latest update is horrible. I use Cortext on 2 phones. One was updated to the latest update. It never loads the message any more. The reliability of Cortext is totally gone. It doesn’t ring reliably. I wish I can undo that upgrade. I had to change my app upgrade to manual on my other phone so I can refuse the latest update. Since the other phone is the phone I read my Cortext now.

Latest update is slow as molasses. I don’t know what exactly in the last update made it unusable. It used to be slightly slower than texting, and now it’s slightly slower than a fossilized snail. When we ask for fixes we are told to turn Wi-Fi on and off, or to reboot and re-download… which is as effective as shouting into a void.

Poor quality and design, unreliable, glitchy. I'm genuinely surprised that an app published from such a large company would have such a cheaply built and low quality application for something as important as physicians communicating about patient care. This app represents minimum effort.

Alerts are useless. I'm a busy doc; I work nights and long weekend shifts. I need an app that can wake me at 4 am (pretend your house is on fire and your volunteer firefighters are relying on beepers - what alert would you want them to use?). A useful alert would ring for more than 1-2 seconds every 3 minutes. A longer alert, say 5-6 seconds, with an option to repeat every 1-2 minutes is essential. And why can't the volume on this app be similar to the rest of the apps, like texts, on my iPhone? Also, an alert needs to be heard over the din of monitors in the operating room. If my pager sounds just like the anesthesia machine (the only alert on your app that is remotely loud enough sounds oddly just like the cardiac monitors on my patients) then my support staff in the OR is not going to hear it. Until these issues are improved I cannot recommend this to any doc.

Unnecessary update. This most recent update has had incredibly negative effect on the utility of this app. The interface is slow; the text size is either too large or too small; and messages either or not being delivered, or are being delivered too late. The only improvement has been that you can select to copy portions of a message, but in all honesty, the net affect this update is to make me more reliant on the web interface. This app update was clearly not tested sufficiently, and represents a very poor execution of product roll-out for a well funded organization. You can do better than this.

Terrible terrible app. About as bad as it gets in so many aspects. Messages will often not load for minutes at a time in a “messaging” app. The app freaks out when going outside of WiFi range. The app is slow and clunky. The worst part of it all is the battery drain. The app shortens normal daily battery life by hours and regularly uses >75% of daily battery. Worthless. If I had a choice I would never use this again.

5.0 update is horrible. This update is absolute garbage. It freezes and crashes continuously. The response time is awful. What were they thinking pushing this out? Unfortunately I’m sure they have many signed contracts already with businesses that allow them to get away with this, but better believe I’ll make noise with my huge academic institution about how bad it is.

Frequently locks me out tells me to contact an administrator. While on call the best way to communicate nonemergent conditions is via Text. Unfortunately my admin cannot reset PW when Imprivata decides that it has expired with no warning and they cannot set me to unavailable while I cannot receive messages. Anger ensues when docs think that I am ignoring their texts when in reality I can’t get an alert that I have messages to read let alone see the message.

Improved. Connectivity is much improved on new version. I haven’t had any non-alerts to incoming messages or simply not receiving messages since the update. Imagine that, I’m thrilled by a messaging app that can now reliably receive messages. Still consumes a great deal of my iPhone battery. That’s not an issue for everyone. The hospital’s IT folks said the developer was working on that. They still haven’t addressed an option for larger fonts.

Need AppleWatch app. Getting alerts on my AppleWatch is nice, but I really need to be able to read them there. MOST other messaging apps have a watch app, in can read and reply right from my watch never take my phone out. Please add AppleWatch app, please make it cellular compatible so I can leave my house without my iPhone and still get messages and reply on my AppleWatch

Problems with either update or iOS 12 or iPhone X. Recently my alerts have not been sounding, banner alerts only. Connection has been extremely wonky lately as well- seems like I almost need “perfect” conditions. I don’t know if this is a function of a recent CorText update, iOS update (12.2), or new phone (XS). Why was the “override silent mode” option removed from the app? Despite what it says this cannot be done in Settings>Cortext>Notifications. This seems to be a functionality needlessly wiped out.

Very slow app. App is slow to load, slow to send messages. Glitchy. Unacceptable for fast pacing inpatient environment.

Good idea, bad execution. As a physician, I appreciate the desire to have a HIPAA-compliant messaging app. Unfortunately, Cortext is lacking in quality considering it is actively used by major institutions. 1. On iPhone X the home bar overlaps the text input box. This should be an easy fix. I’m surprised they haven’t resolved this bug. 2. I’m not sure what they used to program the app, but it doesn’t feel like a native iOS app. It feels like a poor quality web app shoved into a mobile app container. 3. There is no way to report bugs in the app itself, which led me to write this review instead of doing it privately. 4. “Override silent mode” for urgent notifications doesn’t seem to do anything. The notifications are still silent. Is this even possible on iOS? Now that I’m forced to use this app, I hope it improves rapidly. There’s a reason so many people just use iMessage/text message instead. It’s not much less secure than Cortext, and actually works and looks nicer. Unfortunately, iMessage isn’t HIPAA-compliant, but I wish it was.

Poor connection. What I’ve noticed about this app is that when attempting to connect it always says I’m off network .I have used my hospitals IT resources to try and correct the problem, but at this point they suggest just removing and re-downloading it is really frustrating when you’re trying to work in healthcare and you’re unable to communicate. Luckily , it functions well on the hospital computers which is what I primarily use but if needing to be contacted outside the hospital they are unable to because of these issues with the application. It would be nice if someone can please try to fix this up to make it easier for healthcare workers to use.

Lack of support or ease of reporting issues is my basis for the 2 stars.. I’ve noticed a few bugs and wanted to report them. There’s no where to report bugs in app so I went to the App Store to use the support link. When selecting the support link it just took me to their website and not to their support page. I should have to click 20 different items just report a bug that shouldn’t be a thing anyways.

Horrible since the “improved update”. The absolute worst update in the years my work has used this app. Thank ts now harder to read. Buggy. Crashes ten times more. It takes forever to load, typing is even worse, I’m usually 10 words ahead. I’m hoping our IT department dumps this and moves to a better one.

Lack of customer support. Long time (previously satisfied) cortext user dealing with unacceptable glitches following latest update (5.0.7). Attempted to contact customer support and only ended up wasting time chasing rabbit trails. Multiple coworkers frustrated with new update interfering with work productivity throughout our organization. Cortext team please fix: 1) User friendly ability to contact your company for support. 2)Glitchy previous update 5.0.7. UPDATE: First person I went to for assistance with Cortext at my place of employment told me that deleting app and reinstalling had not fixed issues for them so I didn’t try. I contacted IS/IT for help with Cortext app. The IS/IT employee suggested DELETING APP & REINSTALLING. THAT FIXED SLOWNESS & GLITCHY ISSUES. So I’m changing from 1 start to 4…..still would suggest Cortext company try to improve customer support.

Love/hate. This app is a useful tool and maybe someday could replace the antiquated pager. They need to fix the bugs, however, and make sure texts always come through in a timely manner. It is also ridiculous that there is no medical dictionary, auto correct makes some embarrassing spelling errors. The ability to do voice to text would improve functionality as well.

No video function. Would be helpful to send videos (eg for exams, scrolling through radiology images, etc.)

Problems. The application has a lot of problems after the recent update you did a few days ago like badge notifications are not showing up

Newest update got rid of post-nominal. In a very large hospital, lack of post-nominal makes it incredibly difficult to find who I’m looking for. People with similar names could be a nurse, a physician, an NP or PA, a dietician, a PT, an OT, or a custodian. Titles aren’t necessarily how people choose to be addressed, but they are so important in identifying one another. I can see a LOT of communication errors with this update.

Thanks for keeping me up at night. There needs to an integrated way to have Cortexts reliably break through Do Not Disturb. I am already on night call for days at a time and awake responding to actual clinical concerns in addition to seeing patients during the day. I do not want to be disturbed for robocalls from Slovenia because I can't put the phone on Do Not Disturb while using this app. Bring back the physical pager!

Poor App. I’m getting too frustrated with this app, the more I use it, the worse it gets! Imagine having to remove and reinstall the app each time you close your iPhone. Like I’m not busy enough without the hassle of having to deal with one more. Anyone else having the same issues?

App very slow. App very slow to text

Repeat alerts. After update I keep getting an urgent update message for a message I’ve viewed, then deleted, then reset my phone, then reinstalled the app. Not sure if the repeat message (like 15-20x every 10 mins) will continue with the fresh install. Still a very annoying bug.

No updates in over a year. So many bugs, not updated in over a year. Forced to use it for work, yet unable to as app gets stuck on the create a pin screen… yet I can see messages that I cannot reply to behind the pin entry popup.

Great messaging app. Feature requests: 1) user feedback option within app 2) sharing contact lists 3) dictation in chat

Slow and doesn't work.... Be ready to wait for 1-2 minutes before each message loads. I also constantly get alerts even though I'm on "do not disturb" and it specifically says I shouldn't be able to send or receive messages.

Unusable after new update. The recent update has completely destroyed the functionality of the app. My hospital relies on Cortext to communicate urgent patient information. Ever since the update a few days ago, it has been extremely sluggish, having to "load" something like the entire "directory" every single time I try to open any conversation. It crashes constantly throughout the day when trying to open it. I am getting messages late. The aesthetic change was not asked for or needed and definitely not worth the update. You need to test these changes in house before you roll it out to hospitals.

They ruined it. Used to work and changed hospital work for the better. Now it barely functions and seems to freeze all the time. Probably adds 30 minutes to every shift waiting for it to sync.

New update is terrible. Can no longer easily locate contacts for texting. You must type in their names in first and last name in that order, otherwise the message will be send to their office or cell phone outside of cortext which will be encripted and they won’t be able to read it unless they click on an additional link. Completely worthless app now.

Not what has been expected in past. Has gone downhill recently with users accounts not working correctly, sounds are not reliable. Not notifying of text on phone. Thought I was sleeping through alarm but settings not working correctly. Would like to see reliability significantly improve.

Horrible application - very unreliable. I work in a medical clinic and am basically on call for the entire workday. The clinic decided to use Cortext for confidential “texting” between providers and support staff to exchange information or notify me when patients need to be seen. While it works as it should a lot of the time, it has enough problems to be a real liability. 1. Delayed notifications: have a had several incidents of not getting notifications for several minutes, hours, or even days. 2. Malfunctioning alert system: lately when I do get a notification, the alarm will not shut off for several minutes, even after I have read, responded to, and deleted the initial message. I have changed the settings in the app to remove repeated alerts and this has not fixed the problem. 3. Availability notification problems: When I change my availability from “available” to “do not disturb”, the change doesn’t remain and people still think I’m available and send messages when I may not be in a position to reply. Bottom line: if you have another option for a program or app of this type, use it!

Changed my work flow. Usually I am paged all day to nursing without knowing if the call will be answered or how serious the problem is. With cortex all that changed I know who want to communicate , how serious the patients condition is and have all my communication documented in the cortex text system. No more getting up to find a phone during meetings. Every interaction done quickly , improves patient care. Everyone should try it. Thanx. C

Should allow dictation, buggy and slow. The update has been a downgrade. Three salient flaws. One, I should be able to use dictation. It’s not up to Cortext whether I am HIPAA compliant, it’s up to me. I can dictate in every other app, it makes no sense to close it down in this one. Stupid. Second, please remove the passcode requirement that was added in the update. Not needed and annoying. Finally, since the update if you are composing a message that is multiple lines, and you delete a selected block of text at the end, only the first line of the text will show and there is no way to scroll down to see the rest of the text. To re-create the problem, write a multi line text message, select a word at the end, and delete. You will see the issue. Communication with the synchronization server(s) has also been much slower since the update.

Slow slow slow. This latest update has made it unusably slow.

Post cortext trauma disorder. Awful is an understatement, I wasted so much time calling cortext support folks, resetting my phone multiple times, deleting and downloading cortext app atleast 20 times since their update, staring at cortext screen waiting for message to open, clicking on send button multiple times with no success.. Context has added more work and stress than improving my efficiency at work. And worst part is that it continues to consume 40-50% of battery despite their multiple updates. I’d not use this even if it is free in current form Even getting paranoid to the point that I believe there may have been some cozy exchange of benefits from cortext with my employer that my employer is not ending this subscription.

So bad. I have emergent pages and Cortex deletes my account and I need to delete, and reinstall it on phone. Then, when I log into it on my computer, I see that I’ve missed messages for over one week. Stay away from this system like the plague (or Covid) if you are a health care provider unless you like filing QAs.

Poor connection. I really wish this app was better. It often takes me several attempts at sending a message to have it go through, connectivity seems to be an issue while I’m on Wifi or cellular. This has gotten substantially worse since the last update.

New update. This new update stinks, it keeps sticking and i have deleted the app and redownloaded it and nothing is making it better it is awful, they need to fix this fast. Been like this for about a week now and it takes 10 minutes to send a simple message because it keeps freezing. Ugh.

Sound alert not functioning. Until my most recent update the function worked but more recently the sound has not been functional to alert me and I’ve missed a lot of messages while being on call. No one has any ideas to help me and the sound on my Phone is all the way up.

Lacking features. Need to allow voice-to-text dictation. Also need to create an app for Apple Watch. Providers do not want to be reliant on their phones all of the time, and allowing reading and replying to messages on Apple Watch would help with that.

Never functions right since the update. This app used to be decent but since the most recent update where they changed the user interface, not only does it look terrible but it functions terribly. The app takes forever to load. It can’t keep up with my typing when I’m trying to write a message. It takes forever to toggle between different tabs in the app. I hate it. It makes my job harder.

Latest update cripples function. Cortext used to be a straight-forward, boring app that worked. Now it takes forever to load and grinds endlessly while doing nothing. Critical calls and messages might be missed - you’ll never know because you don’t get any info beyond a status badge on the Home Screen.

Very unreliable. Message delays are common, sometimes you get no notification, sometimes you get a notification but the message isn’t there. Often when I reply it will give me a “not sent” error. I have to use it at work due to confidentiality but it is a terribly unreliable platform. I despise using it.

no apple watch app?. when wearing apple watch i get alert that there’s a text for me on the watch but I can’t read it, so I have to pull my phone out. Seemed like being able to read the message on watch should be a no brainier for a messaging app.

Horrible noise options. The options for noises are absolutely horrible. They are ether too loud or too quite/ unusable . There need to be an option to use different notifications sounds. They all sound like horrible fire alarms. My old Motorola pager had such better noises. The noises are so obnoxious keeping them on silent. Please fix this shortcoming. Other than than that awesome app! Good job guys! Works perfectly for professional secure contact to hospital!

Need to be more user friendly. Overall OK. Potential is there. Issues to be fixed: 1. Delay in connecting to the server. Eg: when deleting a message it takes a while for the screen to reset after Notification shows new message but inbox doesn’t 2. Ability to set away times on a schedule. This is A MUST HAVE feature.

Absolutely terrible. Cortext gets more unreliable with every (infrequent) update. The app constantly freezes, crashes regularly (sometimes requiring deletion and reinstallation to function again), and worst of all cannot be relied upon to push notifications when texts are received. If you are looking at Cortext as a secure texting solution for your enterprise, do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. Our staff are lobbying for its replacement because it is so unreliable.

No sign out button. I own a iphone 11 pro max and there is no sign out button

Worse functionality since Spring 2022. Ever since a recent update was pushed in Spring 2022 Cortext has frequently failed to push notifications for medical communications. This has delayed patient care and resulted in a number of near misses. As this messaging service is its core function, I cannot recommend the app.

Paging volume variation please. Urgent notification sounds give everyone in the hospital a heart attack!! Even using a milder tone with a medium volume is terrible. Fantastic app otherwise.

Good but.... I'd really like the option to allow reminder beeps (like SMS text on the iPhone). It is too easy to miss the first alert. It would be nice if the alert repeated in 30sec and in 1min if you don't check the message the first time. This would eliminate missed messages. Very useful app otherwise.

Mr. Signed up and can login to to the admin website but can't get the app to work. Tried support.. No luck yet

Poor app. Messaging app needs a lot of work. Text readability is horrible on new iPhone XS and there is no setting to change it. There also needs to be a way to read the messages on attached Apple Watch.

Buggy. Starts up in iOS 8 now, but flashes a warning that it's still not compatible with iOS 8. What does that mean?

Fast Battery Drain. Fast Battery Drain after latest update of Imprivata (11/01/16) version 3.9.1.362176. High battery usage (30%-40%) as indicated in the iPhone settings.

Terrible. Awful app. Does not alert despite correct settings and reinstall. Good way to miss urgent patient issues

No AD integration. Managing groups of people in this app is a nightmare.

Poor Apple Watch support. It’s supposed to mirror iPhone alerts to my Apple Watch, but it doesn’t. Worse yet no Apple Watch app.

Bad alerts. For all the aforementioned reasons (repeated alerts but no new message, not getting alerts on time, etc) I find this app a big liability and pain in the a**. All for HIPAA!!!! Hopefully an upgrade will make it useable.

Needs updates. I continue to have difficulty changing my availability and frequency,have to delete cortext from my phone and then upload again. This occurs 1-2 x week.

Terrible. Keeps closing immediately upon opening rendering it useless. Reinstalled with help of IT still not working. Tiger text is much better and supports voice to text.

Frustratingly Buggy, limited functionality. I can no longer count the number of times now that Cortext gives me a alert only to find no new message to review, or does not give me an alert for a new message, or receives a message 10+ minutes after it was sent. More consistently, every time my ‘not available’ status times out and returns to ‘available’, I am inundated with back to back alerts every few minutes of nothing until I reinstall the app. I’ve reinstalled the app and reset my internet connection multiple times without avail. I even tried it on my friend’s old iPhone instead of Android and it does the same. It’s happening to me again as I speak.

DOES NOT WORK WITH IOS 8 for iPhone. It doesn't work on iPhone 6 or any iPhone with iOS 8. Imprivata, please update your app soon.

Only medical app not better than Android version. Issues: 1. Randomly auto logs me off which means I will miss messages unless I notice myself 2. No override silent for routine messages (this is a feature you can enable in Android, not sure if it is iOS limiting it) 3. Sends me notifications that I have unread messages when I do not. 4. Overall very easy to miss messages and lose connection The UI improvement recently was much needed and smooth. But it is window dressing from an app that does not work. Hopefully my place of work moves away from Cortext to another platform.

Keeps asking to create an unlock code. The app was working and I accidentally signed out one day. When I re-logged in it keeps asking for a 4 digit unlock code. However it won’t accept the codes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times without improvement.

Custom notifications pls!!. Can we add custom notifications for apple users?? A variety of prompts would have a huge impact on user experience. Simple fix you’d think…

Unusable. Terrible terrible update to 5.0x version. Unusable. Slow. Unreliable. Can be a liability for patient care at institutions that rely on this platform for P2P secure communication. Curious if there are other decent competitor platforms.

Screen wont flip. Can you make it so the screen flips when my tablet is in landscape mode.

Necessary for work, but..... HIPAA compliant text messaging is vital to keep our field personnel connected with the office and with each other. Since early 2017, problems with the app have increased. It is notoriously slow to load. Once loaded, it sometimes freezes and will not scroll or change functions. Or it suddenly jumps forward while you are reading a long string of new messages, so that the reader is not in control of the scrolling function. When that happens, time is wasted scrolling through many messages searching for where you left off. The most recent update resolved a glitch with absent notifications, but problems with the keyboard freezing and losing messages partially complete has increased. I need this app, but sometimes it makes me want to throw my phone in a river. Cortext, please invest more in refinement and maintenance! 12/4/17 update promised to fix bugs. I cannot see that any bugs troubling me are gone. As of the date the update, my app was labeling me “null” for some reason, and making it very difficult for me to find and read messages.

Worst application I’ve ever used. Fails on a nearly daily basis. Never syncs correctly. Always trying to reconnect. I get messages hours after they have been sent. Terrible product.

DONT UPDATE ITS A TRAP. Since most recent update several weeks ago, the app is essentially unusable. It takes a long time to load and hangs almost every time it is opened.

Good concept, slow server. I use it a lot and like the concept. The server is slow and messages are often hung up ( the app sometimes downloads 2 old messages from the ER when i open it to send a message). Suggestion:- have an alert for the sending MD if the sent message has not been read in 10 (or similar) minutes. This will trigger the sending MD to try to call the recipient in a different way.

Unsafe at any speed. Last few days I have been signed out by the app repeatedly Only way to get messages is to delete app and reinstall. It is 1:26 am. Once again app malfunctioning. Alarm keeps going off but new message won’t appear in queue. Hospitalist administration has heard many complaints from physicians. I suspect so has cortext given the reviews May 25.20: again malfunctioning I have to delete and reload app to get it too work

Worst App !!. This is so yesterday! No talk to Txt!!! Are you kidding? Who has time to txt one letter at a time! It is much faster to Just Call each other! Forget this time waster!

Latest update bug.. You will not receive notifications unless app is open or running in the background. Have missed multiple messages due to this issue. Please rectify.

Doctor. I hate this disaster. We have to use it daily. My IPhone X cannot handle this piece of software. Keeps crashing daily. Delays messages constantly. So much for quality of patient care. Dangerous. Update: still hate it. I wish our administration got rid of this disaster!!!

Clunky app. Long loading times and not clear how to use Shame they make us use it

Buggy inconsistent. Neither adjective bodes well for any clinical app.

Horrible upgrade. Just had the upgrade earlier this week (11/20/2017) and now it beeps me 3 separate times for each page. Even while I’m in the middle of responding to the page, so that it deletes whatever I’m typing and I have to start over. It’ll also start a new window for each time it beeps you, so you have to hit the back button two and three times to get to your home screen. Also keeps dropping the connection so i go 10 to 15 minutes without a page, then get a flurry of pages all at once. Again, each one hits me phone 3 times. I’m going to make a strong recommendation to my organization to drop this program if they don’t fix the problem. I’d rather have a traditional pager than this crap.

Worse upgrade ever. Whenever they 'upgrade it' it actually gets worse

Sound. Impravata sound is extremely low and the volume is all the way up. I only heard the alert because I was on my phone checking e mail. I take emergency call for the hospital and I am concerned that this will not wake me up at night.

Find another. 1. Delays in notification 2. Challenges with app loading and replying to messages. 3. Delays in synchronizing messages with Desktop. 4. Alerts are not consistent and messages can be missed.

Awful. Total unreliable crap. Forced to use as hospital based physician. Dangerous to patient care due to unreliability and seriously irritating to attempt to use.

Please fix bugs. I appreciate that there’s a requirement for a compliant communication system, but please fix bugs for availability settings. It continually resets to available no matter how many times I set it to do not disturb.

Encountering errors signing in. For those that just upgraded to the new app version and can’t sign in from phone. Delete the app and reinstall it.

Unreliable, can’t dictate. Paging alerts are inconsistent and unreliable (iPhone SE 2) Can’t dictate responses due to hippa which is a hazard when you are on the go.

Sound. Lately the sound on the alerts is not coming through loud like it used to. I’ve checked the sounds in the application and on my phone and they are both maximized.

Unreliable for a mission-critical service. Notifications frequently fail to deliver. Group-texts automatically disable Do Not Disturb mode. Frequently drops messages and silently fails to deliver, sometimes delivering days later, despite “deleting” the message. But I guess my IT department says it’s HIPAA compliant so it’s all we’ve got. Wish they’d just get TigerText or something.
