Translations a bit off. Beautiful illustrations. Wonderful history. Awkward translations. It would also be nice to have an option to sort chronologically. It almost makes up for the old posters I bought in a St. Petersburg's bookstore in 1994 -- they were stolen in the Moscow airport.

Great app. Wish there was an option to make memes out of these. (As in adding or replacing the Russian texts with English)

One of my favorite apps!. Thank you to the authors for creating this amazing app. As a graphic artist born in during the Cold War, this app is a real gem. This artwork was forbidden to me in the first half of my life. To have the opportunity to study it now is a dream come true. It brings to life a style particular to a unique period in Russian history. The use of illustration to shape the thinking of a nation is pure genius. I could teach an art course on the subject just using these illustrations. The simple but powerful use of color, the bold, in-your-face imagery, the dramatic and flagrantly heroic poses, the depiction of the uncomfortable relationship between labor and war, religion and war, peace and war...everything centers around a hunger for peace and prosperity juxtaposed with constant vigilance and a preparedness for conflict. These fascinating images teach volumes about the soul and psyche of the Russian people. I could study these illustrations for decades! I use these images as wallpaper for my iPad but even now, I feel uncomfortable just looking at them, much less displaying them publicly, because of my Cold War upbringing. Some of the illustrations still feel extremely dangerous to me as an American. The fear of being branded a Communist for admiring these images still haunts me. Even though the world has finally changed, I still fear repercussions. That's amazing to me. As an artist, I absolutely love knowing that even now, decades after the end of the Cold War, these illustrations still have such power over me. That's the true meaning of art! Well done, and thank you for bringing into the light this amazing artform that was hidden from me for so long.

Valuable for the art, translations are off. This app has a great collection of posters with some fascinating propaganda art. Look elsewhere for translations, though. These are painfully off in most cases and incomplete in others.

Skip it!. Not worth the money - installed it, spent 3 minutes browsing the posters, and then uninstalled it. Aside from a few nice pieces, most of the artwork is poor (to each their own!)

Well done!. It's obvious a lot of work went into compiling this collection. The translations for the text on the posters could be a little better, but overall this a fine (and fascinating) application.

Nice picture album. Had a lot of fun browsing through the posters, especially the civil security series. Felt like back in my USSR childhood with civil emergency trainings and playing with gas masks and fake grenades instead of toys.

Awesome - History Style. I do like the graphic style of the art. I've seen posters like this before but only briefly. Here I can study the style. It has also sparked my interest in learning more about what's behind the graphics. There's more of a selection than I thought and the categories are a great touch.

Soviet Posters HD. Great app. Social commentary as well as propaganda of the Cold War. Use to add content to your texts. The only drab back is that some English translations are ... Too short.

Smashing. As Nigel Thornberry would say. You may want to download this from the computer, this app is extremely large but that does not take away from its amazing content. This app is a comprehensive collection of very high quality, olden style Soviet posters from pre-WWII onwards and it is stunning. They are well categorized and displayed in easy to view thumbnails/frames. This app suffers from no noticeable glitches and bugs and is in all aspects a very good app. The posters are art, representing a culture and nation of power, strength and unity, and all the other aspects including politics, war and even civil movements. They are also followed by a caption containing the translated version of the focus of the poster. This is a unique feature and very helpful to understand the poster's meanings. The app offers the choice to download these posters in HD, email it to yourself in a higher resolution or even save that poster directly to your camera roll. They are beautiful and unique, each poster makes a very cool wallpaper almost the perfect size for an iPhone 4's screen. Great app. Artwork on the posters are brilliant! Love the option to email it to you in a larger resolution. Would be better with more of an explanation on what the poster means and who the leader was at the time and things like that, but still an excellent app for anyone interested in soviet history.

Translations. The translations were obviously by someone who either knows little Russian and/or little English. Case in point: some translations make reference to the virgin, I suspect the term should be "the motherland"...in an anti-religious Russia use of "the virgin" is obviously incorrect. The posters, however, are very interesting.

I love it.. A good incentive for me to try to learn Russian again.

Intriguing!. This app delivers a fascinating look at old Soviet era propaganda posters. The artwork is predominantly of an industrial style and often shows the Soviet worker as a heroic figure. The wartime posters are particularly interesting as the Nazis are depicted as grotesque humanoid forms. Some of the translations of the poster texts seem like they are literally transcribed and lack the spirit of the message. Some posters don't make much sense in regards to the message, probably because they were topical at the time and have little relevance today. From an artistic point of view this app is a nice reference, but it could benefit from some historical exposition and better translation.

This is awesome. I love this app but all i ask is that you give us the option to read the full translation at the bottom of the posters. I would like to be able to understand the entire poster, not just the first 5 words. Other than that, it's great!
