====================================

Bash is a "Unix shell": a command-line interface for interacting with the operating system. It is widely available, being the default shell on many GNU/Linux distributions and on Mac OS X; and ports exist for many other systems. It was created in the late 1980s by a programmer named Brian Fox, working for the Free Software Foundation. It was intended as a free-software alternative to the Bourne shell (in fact, its name is an acronym for "Bourne-again shell"), and it incorporates all features of that shell, as well as new features such as integer arithmetic and in-process regular expressions.

In addition to the interactive mode, where the user types one command at a time, with immediate execution and feedback, Bash (like many other shells) also has the ability to run an entire script of commands, known as a "Bash shell script" (or "Bash script" or "shell script" or just "script"). A script might contain just a very simple list of commands — or even just a single command — or it might contain functions, loops, conditional constructs, and all the other hallmarks of imperative programming. In effect, a Bash shell script is a computer program written in the Bash programming language.

Shell scripts can be called from the interactive command-line described above; or, they can be called from other parts of the system. One script might be set to run when the system boots up; another might be set to run every weekday at 2:30 AM; another might run whenever a user logs into the system.

Shell scripts are commonly used for many system administration tasks, such as performing disk backups, evaluating system logs, and so on. They are also commonly used as installation scripts for complex programs. They are particularly suited to all of these because they allow complexity without requiring it: if a script just needs to run two external programs, then it can be a two-line script, and if it needs all the power and decision-making ability of a Turing-complete imperative programming language, then it can have that as well.

Bash Programming Language Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Don't waste your time. This ''free" app is useless. I don't know why they even have it for "free". You can't even use it one time without having to pay.

Worth the 3 dollars. It is great for testing out any scripts you are working on this is amazing I have been looking for an app like this for ever thank you I us Python2IDE and Linux it’s great for using your scripts don’t worry about the money Its surprising that you get a great app like this for such a low price so I’m I’m saying is this is a must get for any script writer web developer just someone who enjoys tinkering with web programming

How to learn BASH? Pay first.. Thanks, but... No thanks! Bash can be learned freely online. Google it!. There is even a website named shellcheck wich you can write on the fly and it points errors.

This app is the best guide (s) for Bash in existence. It's one where I refer to my iOS device with this app before I dig around on the web or search my Mac.

Seems Like A Come On. This lets you run a BASH script, once, and then you have to pay $2.99. There’s no way to even begin to see what it can do, because it’s a one trick pony, until you pay up. Perhaps it’s ok for testing shell scripts, but there doesn’t seem to be any real BASH capabilities, from what I can tell. It’s just a way to run some scripts, but without access to anything except a script editor and a “compiler”, there’s not much use in having it.

Adequate. My online complain is that you have to be online to compile.

Bash review. Does not run on your machine! Nothing is on your device, everything, programs, text, reference material, etc. is in the cloud and has nothing to do with your ipod/iphone/ipad. Worthless for any development work.

Kinda cool if your a kind learning bash. It's alright if you know nothing about bash but the killer for me YOU HAVE A LIMIT ON YOUR COMPILATIONS PER DAY!! Not worth the $2

Pay to do anything. You have to pay to run your scripts. Awful and terrible.

wow. Free Software Foundation? really?

The developer is entitled to make a little money. Dmitri is entitled to some compensation for all of the hard work and hours he put into this so called free app. I agree that he needs to give 5-10 free compilations, if only to get the customer hooked on using it otherwise people walk away. This is a good learning tool and I came here to test out some concepts while commuting to the office. But if I don’t get any value first, I’m not forking over any money to find out later if I will be “nickeled and dimed” or not.

Terrible junk app. I got this app and the example script worked. Therefore, I thought that this app actually worked and that it was really good. After I bought the $2.99 subscription and edited the script, the script wouldn’t compile and run. The output stated that I needed to check my internet connection but there was NOTHING wrong with my internet connection! My program would NOT compile and it would NOT run. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP!!! IT IS A TOTAL SCAM!

Uhhhhh. Really?

DO NOT PAY FOR THIS APP. Absolutely horrible app, I'm attempting to get my money back.

I’d love to give real feedback. I use vscode to write bash scripts and had an idea for one so I searched the App Store and saw this , it looks like a passable editor with highlight which is cool , but I really can’t give any more feedback as the app doesn’t really let you try full functionality ? Maybe give people a few freebies ? Or maybe put ads and make the “unlimited compiles an option ? People are way less likely to buy something they can’t put through its paces or twice in. I work in cars sales , butts on seats and feet on pedals , sell metal.

So far, good app, a couple suggestions. The app is all around good, though, I would like to be able to test the build/compile feature before I commit money to the app. I understand the dev needs money to support the app, but, it is difficult for me to put money into something that may not work for me. Second, the app needs cloud support, allow me to store my files in the cloud, and access them across devices. Don’t always have my tablet on me, and it would be useful to access my scripts from my phone.

Ok. A so-so app. I didn't notice until after buying it that it is online only. Kind of a disappointment. It is also very slow to run scripts.

not really free. you have to pay to use this "free" app

Great App!. I am writing a compiler that targets many languages and this app is ideal for my purposes. Keep up the good work!

Non useful preview of functionality. Doesn't let you even run a script once without paying. Five free runs minimum (10 or 20 would be better) would be reasonable. Offering a "free" app that does nothing unless you pay is, I'm sorry to say, deceptive. Loosen up a bit, developer. I appreciate that a ton of work goes into app development. But I'd rather be asked to pay to download at all or be given a chance to try the app's functionality within reason before paying. [EDIT: it runs interpretation through a remote server--so it can't be used offline, and isn't really an emulator? No.]

Not actually free. Claims to be a free app, but you have to pay for compilations. You get ONE compilation, who most will use to run the default script. Make it a 2.99 app, and get unlimited compilations

Total waiste. The app does not work. Any command execution takes about 5 sec and always displaying ‘prog.sh’. Removing from iPad.

Perfect!. I don’t understand the negative comments at all! The developer could have easily asked $4.99 on the AppStore and I would have gladly paid for the reference alone (I’m learning). This app works perfectly for me and more.

Pay to play. You have to pay for basically everything, so the app is basically worthless unless you want a way to blow your money really fast

Dissatisfied. I know it isn't a lot of money but Dmitri should have put more effort into this. Despite his useless tech support you can't figure out how to use it offline. Apple should remove it from the App Store. Also if anyone knows of a way to have Bash command line features running in an app like this I would buy it. Unless Dmitri wrote it of course.

A bit useless. Allowing for one 1 “compilation” isn’t enough to evaluate. 5 or 10 would be more reasonable. I’m not paying to evaluate a product properly. Or, save your money and download a free ssh client and sign up for a free amazon AWS account and use your own EC2 instance.

Rip off. Masquerades as free, then charges $1 to actually do anything.

10 Seconds Before Trial Ends. I downloaded the app because the screenshots looked very impressive and I thought it would be interesting to experiment with scripting. But when I launched the app for the first time it had the Hello World script already there and I executed it to see how the interface worked. Unfortunately you apparently only get one execution before you have to pay, so I'd blown my trial within the first 10 seconds. If an app is going to be "free" even with in-app purchases, it needs to give you enough usage to decide if it's worth purchasing in the first place. In my case, it was reason enough to uninstall the app and go back to the App Store for something else.

It’s not free at all.. Not even a little bit. It’s $3. Free to install but $3 if you want to use it. The bait and switch turned me off to this app completely.

Slimy all around. You have 1 (ONE) free compilation, which I assume the average person will use immediately upon opening the app to run the sample script, and he will only discover later that he has 0 left. This is what happened to me. Furthermore, this is not a bash interpreter. There’s no shell, it’s a text editor that can send your script to a server that has a bash runner. This is evidenced by the fact that it needs internet to run. Very slimy. Edit: more things. I see that another reviewer had the same experience about the trial. The dev responded, “just buy unlimited compilations.” Well dimitry, just mark the app as $2.99 like it actually is!!

Not actually free and requires internet to compile. The app isn't actually free. You get ONE free compilation and then you have to pay. If you don't pay, the app is basically just a text editor. 1 star because this is just deceitful practices. I'll stick to sshing into a Linux machine and using that for any development work.

Don't waste your money and time!. This app is garbage!

Awesome!. A great tool to have!! Helps keeping fresh with Bash

Not really bash. It's a text editor. There are buttons to run your scripts but without paying an IAP there is no way to tell if it will actually work. It appears that by paying some money you could execute your script on a remote server somewhere and observe the output, but if you have access to the internet you might as well ssh into something that can actually run bash.

NOT Bash for your iOS device. This app lets you run a Bash script, yeah, though not on your iOS device but on a remote computer. So if you want to learn basic Bash to run on other computers okay, but if you want Bash to explore your iPhone or iPad, this is not it. The developer really should make that clear, but AFAICT they do not.

Seems to be Broken. When ever i try to run something in errors in the output: insufficient compilations, get more in the settings tab. What does this mean?, the settings tab just displays a white box with the number 100 written in it and nothing else.

I’d give it a zero star if I could.. You cannot try it unless you pay for compilations or what ever they are calling them. This is not a free app. It is a hiding in the weeds to get you when your back is turned type of app.

Extremely restricted. Don't bother to download this. It won't let you do anything until you pay which makes it impossible to evaluate. How am I supposed to know what i'm paying for with such restrictions imposed. It could be totally fake for all I know. I don't trust it at all. I get a bad vibe from it. I mean, why else wouldn't they let you evaluate the software for much longer unless they're hiding somehing.

Do NOT buy. The program only allows you to run a few programs a day, then prompts you to try again another day!!!!!!!!! And this is for a paid version. RIP OFF

Useless unless you buy IAP. This app will not let you compile anything unless you purchase "compilations"

As below. TERRIBLE and needless restrictions on a paid app. Do Not Buy.

Only one run then done. Don’t install you only get one compile free Dev: why charge on compile? Should charge for bash lessons / course instead. Could be a great tool for people to get into bash
