Fantastic App! Not as $$ greedy as the newer ones. I’ve been using this app since 2016 and I’m so happy that it’s still runs on my devices. Awesome!. With wood prices up this app is essential for reducing waste. Love everything about it. One small issue for me is the area isn’t as smart as it could be. For example swapping dimensions to make a piece fit instead of going to a new board. Not a big deal just something to look out for

Good app. I make signs for a living and find this app useful for its intended use. It saves time when doing several different size cuts to minimize waste. One review said 5th grade math would do the trick. You can do the same calculations on a sheet of paper with the same results however, why waste the paper? It’s not a perfect CAD design program but that’s not what I is intended to be. It’s a simple to use calculator that saves time and resources. I’ve used it from its beginning and through any and all upgrades it is still useful unlike other calculators I’ve used. Keep up the good work.

Great app. This app has been very helpful the past couple of years. One improvement I'd like to see is the ability to optimize based on multiple quantities of the same length stock I have on hand.

Super helpful - needs a few tweaks. I have used this for several years now. This app does all of the math and space planning in seconds that would take me at least an hour on paper. Minor frustrations- sometimes just by changing the description of the cut or the material (long dimension vs short dimension first) I find that the plan creates more or less waste. I have to delete and change the descriptions to find a better, less wasteful plan. Related frustration - descriptions can’t be edited; cuts have to be deleted and re-entered. Cuts also cannot be batch deleted but deleted separately. It’s annoying but not a deal breaker. I love how easy printing the plans is. I just put the cut plans printout on my clipboard, and we’re off!

Nice but glitchy. This app is fairly basic, would be nice if it were able to create cuts for different wood thicknesses without having to create a new list for every size. But it’s something and the price is right.

Meh, not really.. I used the original freeware cutlisting software way back when, and as rudimentary as it was over 10 ago, it blows this away w/ early 90s graphics. This app is fine to see how much material you'll need for a project but doesn't seem to take into account maximization of unused material or preferences for initial cuts being of rip or chop. It also doesn't seem to register preference of grain direction. What's killing me the most is that there's no manual placement so you can't move the pieces! Why can't I fix this app's horrible layouts? I wanna line pieces up along long initial rip cuts but this has me making a million little shorty cuts. Yeh right! No me, no way, not now, not ever! This has a pretty interface and is all polished up but no. I'd rather use my pencil LOL

Nice but could be easier to use. The input interface is not very intuitive. A more positive enter or save button for each step would help (For example if you do not enter the unit like inches, you can hit done and nothing happens). A training video or real instruction would help. Overall a good value but with just a few tweaks it could be a killer.

Nice and easy to use. Very nice and easy - would like more edit options. Have to delete and re-add, but so easy not much of a hit. Also would like to manually assign some cuts to certain woods. Spot on product

regular guy. Took we a while to get used to how to add, modify or delete cuts and materials, but once I got familiar with that, this app has been perfect for me. So far, this app has done a spectacular job of optimizing materials. Has saved me a lot of time I would otherwise spend doing it with a calculator and/or graph paper. Have used it for both linear goods (such as 2x4s) and sheet goods. Also has saved me money by eliminating waste. I'm sure I've already saved the few $ this app costs. Much better overall than I would have expected.

Easy to determine cut list. Straightforward app to determine cuts. Does not let you enter cost per board foot. Would also like to enter existing lumber inventory.

Love this app! Could use some updates though!. It's been 4 years! Would love to see some modernization and updating. But still functions and is the best available

Great start. Cut Calculator is a great tool that could be better. It may be my fault but I would like to be able to have multiple material options in a single plan instead of having a separate plan for each material used.

Basic Calculator. Does a decent job of fitting pieces into a sheet of plywood but doesn’t fit them in for optimal ripping on a table saw. Pieces are placed in the sheet as long as they fit without regard to straight line cutting.

Great for Beginner Woodworkers. Let’s me maximize my materials by planning out most efficient cuts. Have used on several projects and let’s me know when I am short with only having to worry about the measurements of my final piece.

Can’t print won’t print. Great app it’s simple to use and I like it a lot. However the print function fails every single time crashing the app. It should convert the layout into pdf and print accordingly… it used to work and now it simply fails. Please fix it

Generates accurate cut list. Calculator app exceeded expectations. It is a simple to use tool. It provided an accurate cut list.

Waste of money. I guess this is another app that gets its reviews from a review farm. It’s UI is not well thought out. The algorithm that lays out the cuts is not accurate - it is, in fact, the worst I’ve used. It’s only good feature is the ability to mix metric with imperial. If you’re looking for an app to efficiently layout your cuts this ain’t it.

Great help to save materials. Calculate materials needed for complicated projects. This app will make it easy to optimize and organize your cut sheet.

Great way to plan material. I’ve been using this app a lot lately to help plan sheet goods for a large cabinet job, I love it. It is pretty intuitive and the results work, you might be able to get even higher yields but as a starting point, it s great.

Super useful. UI is janky and takes some getting used to. But once you’re used to it, it is straight forward and works extremely well.

Ok...but could be way better.. I’ve used different and more expensive software before. For wood working, I typically use multiple sizes of wood to complete a project. There is no way to enter in multiple material sizes under 1 plan. Only cut lengths. If you plan on using different size lumber 2x4, 1x3, 4x4 for example you need to create a different plan for each, which seems counterintuitive to me. I have no problem spending time setting up the available materials and designating under the cuts what material is needed. It is a simple add to the software that will take it further. Since it only really does 1 size at a time, I can work that out on paper like other reviewers have stated.

Handy for making foam board trays. With the kerf set to zero (razor knife thickness) this app helped with making divided storage trays for Christmas ornaments from foam core board. Of course it’s been used in the wood shop too! My only wish would be that parts could be parametric, allowing me to enter a part’s dimensions, and then changing the part’s quantity later. Or, entering a “project” as a list of parts, and then changing the project quantity later... Until then I can live with making a BOM first and then entering things. It’s still a five star app in my book!

Life just became easier.. Saves me tons of time designing kitchen cabinet cuts. Love it.

Looks good. Haven’t used this yet, but it looks very useful. Could be better if it would set table saw cut lines ,because you can’t cut corners in the middle of sheet goods with a table saw.

Great for deck planning. Building a small deck, and this is the first cut list app that has actually exceeded my expectations. I’m able to enter the cut lengths I need, then quickly experiment with board lengths for purchase to see how to reduce waste. In general, waste is more costly than incremental cost per lineal foot for longer boards (but not always). App crashed once when switching grain direction from horizontal to vertical, which didn’t inspire confidence out the gate. Output to PDF for printing is fantastic! Haven’t tried panel layout, as I don’t need that yet. Would be nice to be able to input pricing and/or availability for different material lengths and have that as an optimization input (for example, say 10’ boards are unusually expensive compared to 8’, or perhaps I need materials now, and there are only 2 10’ boards in stock, but plenty of 8’s). Worth the asking price - I’d buy the developer a cuppa coffee!

Does what I need. Easy to use with efficient display. Gives me optimized initial cut layout for sheet goods and a good estimate of the number of sheets required.

Easy but too simple for shop use.. I guess I could sum up my review with you get what you pay for. The most glaring omission is the inability to include material thickness in sheet goods calculations. I commonly use 1/4", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" thick plywood and/or mdf in a project. There is no way to enter these thicknesses in you cuts or materials. I can't use this for what I do. I gave it 2 stars because it is very easy to use and can quickly do 5th grade math and save you 20 seconds of figuring.

It’s Fair, cannot read all the numbers on the layout. It is pretty straight forward but one you have your layout plan it is very difficult to read the dimensions. And if you print it out it is a very small printout that you can barely read. And it cuts off numbers. I’m trying a different app

Junk. I would gladly delete this app for my $5 back. My cut list would be from white melamine sheets so grain direction is irrelevant. Even without entering a blade cut thickness this program had me hacking up a whole sheet when I can get it out of a half sheet. Figuring it out myself also allowed me to line things up better and do less cuts.

Nifty App. Helped me figure out the size of lumber to buy based on my project needs, really simple and easy to use. Printing ability was great as well, so I can take sheets with me to store. Also was able to go back to a saved "project", make changes, and recalculate. Had a little learning curve at first, but realized you want to calculate lengths on one dimension at a time, (for ex. Put in all cuts on 2x4s only, and available stock to come up with lengths to buy), or cuts and available stock on a "area" (for ex. Plywood sheets of certain size to but for all cuts from plywood needed). I thought ability to have pricing might be helpful, but generally longer stock lengths and efficient cuts translate to lower costs. Couldn't find this tool in more expensive apps.

Love it!. Just what I need to figure out how much wood to buy and how to optimize its yield. It has no useless bells and whistles. For 5 bucks, you can't beat it!

need to know the most efficient way to cut your wood. this is the app that big box stores should be using to help customers not waste their wood. Where you are charged after 6 cuts what if you don’t really need it? I like knowing how many projects are potentially in this purchase

Time & Material Saving App!. I just don't understand what all the complaints are about? It's only$4.99 not $499! C'mon. I've yet to actually cut a sheet of 4x8 ply on my TS using the app but I've studied the way its handles layouts taking into account blade thickness and it seems to be right for kitchen cabinets.

Great app. Saved me a lot of figuring out when cutting heaps of shapes and lengths from timber. Very simple to use and it is very accurate.

Pretty good but room for improvement. This app does what it says it does but the user interface can be a bit annoying at times. The main thing that gets on my nerve is that you can't manually rearrange the pieces, this should be an option because it doesn't always put them in the best way. Looking forward to a few improvements in the future

Almost perfect.. Very easy to enter the piece sizes. Also very easy to correct any mistypes. Layout is good and intuitive. The printed diagram does not show the full dimensions on smaller pieces and the identification letter is at the end of the dimension so it can't be seen. Where there are many of similar sizes with just a few millimetres difference it can be hard to identify each piece. The printed diagram could be a lot larger. It has very wide borders around the diagram.

Useful app. It does the job adequately. Help files could be a bit more expansive in order to learn how it works. Can’t adjust quantities of panels when in edit mode is the only criticism or improvement I have.

Very useful. Interesting and saves time

Great app, ignore low review scores. Although it is not a perfect app, it is very useful in laying out your cutting pattern for the least amount of waste. Granted it sometime doesn't make sense where blocks are placed when it comes to cutting on a table saw. You only paying $5, some programs online that do more also cost much much more. If I could add one update suggestion, once you've added all of your measurements and the app as placed them all. Allow the user to moved the blocks around and have them 'snap' to the other lines. That way you can setup for better cuts. Thanks for the great app!

Save $ and time!!. Great app, user friendly! There are minor glitches that make the cut sheet somewhat awkward, but on the whole, this app is well worth your money!

Cut calculator. Great app, easy to use, wish I had this when I first started my project, great for minimizing waste!

Crashes. Crashes when I try to export file or to print. Does not auto save work. Bottom of calculator disappears after entering first dimensions. A chore to use.

More than just wood. I use it for figuring dimensions and qty of metal to buy for welding projects. Also works well for using up scrap around house on small projects. Would like to set default auto rotate instead of having to remember to change it every time.

Some suggestions. Entering fractions: let it remember denominator, now it resets numerator to 1 when you change denominator. So I have to enter denominator first which is backwards. Material list: I entered sizes of leftover pieces but they never get used. I want the tool to make cuts from the smallest piece of stock possible. Only go to new sheet goods when the cut requires it. Overall it is useful if starting from scratch or planning a new project. Air print works and the program looks good.

One trick pony, not very useful. Thought that this app would give me a good cutting pattern. It doesn't. It's simply an area calculator that calculates the least amount of material waste. The cutting pattern in my first project doesn't make sense on the saw. Would be much more useful if one could move the pieces around to manually create a sensible cutting pattern. It could then simply report the waste factor, which really is all it does now. Not worth $5. Needs to calculate real world cutting patterns.

Saves money. I spent $5 and some time entering data, but it saved me from buying an extra sheet of goods with the first use. I've used it several times since and it makes planning my sheet good breakdown easy. It would be nice if the material dimensions could auto complete, but other than that, I love it. I use metric for everything in it, so I can't speak to fractions.

So useful. This is a great app to figure out how much material to buy and how to set up your cut pattern.

Exactly what I need!. Saves me hours of time and lots of money when working with lumber and sheet goods. I'd give it 5 stars if there was a Universal version, because currently it's only available for the iPad. Wish there was an iPhone version too, as I carry my phone with me on every jobsite, but not usually my iPad.

Awesome update.... … And now I get to do some of the math too…. Great!!! Your approach for handling multiple entries is even better than I had hoped. Kudos… Now for the next feature that I would like to see. Instead of being warned that i have entered a measurement longer than my available material length, I would like the app to treat the entry like any other. For example, if I have twelve foot material and I need a length of sixteen feet, I would like to see the cut list reflect that I need two boards. One full length and the other showing the four foot piece needed. As an exterior finishing contractor, I find a lot of measurements are over the available length of material and having the app handle the lengths seamlessly would be mind-blowing. Thanks Dave

Material saver. I have found this to save me a lot of material and to reduce my waste. To maximize its effectiveness I look up the available lengths of material that I can buy and enter in many of the options to let it give me the best solution. It is great when you're planning a project that you are considering different sizes on such as a deck.

Great App. Works as promised. I was able to layout complete kitchen cabinet cuts in just a few minutes with very efficient use of material and very little waste. The options for entering fractions could be more user friendly. I found entering fractions a bit awkward.

Works Great. I have used this for three projects now. Very handy, easy to use, can save cut sheets, and the app has never had any problems on my ipad.

Cut Entry. Please enhance to allow grouping of cut entries. I would love if you could say enter the trim lengths for each window I need to trim and block or group the entry. After I enter all my trim give me the master cut list or give me a cut list by group. Would be even better if I could copy and then edit the new group as I go window by window door by door. Most of all I wish I could edit the dimensions of an entered cuts having to delete and re-enter. This is a great app and with a few tweaks lie this it would be very easy to spec out the materials.

Great App!. I have used this developer's Tapulator app on my iphone for basic measurements for a while and it was a real timesaver. I found CutCalc and it was well worth the money. I had to build some shelves, and this app saved me from wasting an entire 12' piece of laminate shelving. There's my five bucks back:) It's simple to use and it works. Definitely five stars

This app needs only two things to be perfect.. First, most projects need so much of one thickness and so much of another,etc. it would be excellent if that third dimension was also indexed in. If there wasn't a thickness of that size available then an option user interface would show how many other pieces assembled together would make it (like no one inch pieces but you have a 3/4 and a 1/2 - glue them together). When I enter the wood from the on hand and then the plan requirements, I should be able to also generate a shopping list if short.

Love it. I wish you could lay out more than 20 pieces at a time though.

App Saved My Day. I was looking all over google trying to find a free calculator to do these calls for me, and stumbled across this along the way. I held out hope for a decent free one, but the few I found sucked. Finally broke down and bought the app. I AM SO HAPPY I DID!! The calculator is quick and efficient. The graphics look great on my iPad mini. Almost every feature I needed was included. The saving and loading previous measurements is a great feature. Emailing and texting the shopping list is also handy. The only thing it's missing is a way to export or save the actual cut measurements. Or at least I couldn't find a way other than to take screenshots using the power-home button combo. If it weren't for the lack of this feature, I'd have given it five stars! Everything else is perfect, but I feel this is a very important missing feature. And I thought so highly of the app that this is my very first written review. That and I wanted a way to provide my constructive criticism and feature request. I can't recommend this life saving app enough for the DIYer or professional alike.

Solid Company: See iPhone "Tapeulator", too.. I am giving this a 5 star without using it yet. I have no relationship with the developer, and I'm not a "shill". I was so impressed with the developer's iPhone app, Tapeulator, that I figure this will be a winner, too, so I purchased it sight unseen. I use the iphone app all the time, because of it's very slick/simple interface, but I may drag my iPad around too, if Cut Calculator is as useful as I think it will be. Wasting lumber is a major drag, and this promises to save me hundreds of dollars in a few months. Thus: the price is quite OK with me, even for a shot-in-the-dark trial. I suspect this developer is very good, and has a clear spacial understanding that applies to carpentry really well.

Pretty Cool. I agree needs slight improvement. Need to be able to add cuts of the same size without having to enter them individually. And I really hope you folks can find a way to make circular cuts. That would be way cool in my book. I do a lot of sewing as well as cutting plywood. Circular cuts are in everything.

Close. Just bought this app. Works wonderful for what I wanted: calculating number of signs that can be printed on 4x8 ft sheets. But: It has crashed several times and doesn't seem to accept input less than even inches. For instance, it won't accept 16.5 inches etc. App has great potential and us very close. Please fix ASAP!

Great for Woodworkers!. I used to calculate my cut lists with paper and pencil. I live 1 1/2 hours away from the nearest hardwood dealer so I try to batch all my cut lists so I only have to buy materials every few months. Figuring out all the cut lists for the projects I needed for the next few months on paper was quite a chore and something I did not look forward to. However, using Cut Calculator is so easy I don't mind making cut list anymore. If you are a woodworker you will find this program very helpful!

Extremely Helpful. Easy to use. Accurate. Has helped me design (because I can see the cause and effect of different choices). I would, however, like to be able to label cuts in addition to seeing the dimensions. Also, would like to be able to set what I actually have on hand rather than getting a shopping list. But other than that this program has more than paid for itself in terms of reduced waste. Thank you for this app!!!

Very Happy. This app is well worth the money. On my first job I could have saved over $50 in material. I say "could have" because I bought the app after I bought my material. I thought I had it all nailed down, and had a spreadsheet of all my cuts, and thought I did a fair analysis. When I put the same cuts in the app I was able to save an entire piece on each job I put in. Paid for itself right away. My only criticism is that it would be nice to be able to zoom in on the cut layout. For some narrow cuts you cant see the sizes. It would also be nice to have names associated with each piece, with call outs on the layout. This helps with identifying whats what. btw, this is the first time I took the time to write a review. so that should tell you how valuable it is.

Helpful tool. Like the ability to highlight measurements, now just add an edit feature so i can fix my mistakes quicker!!

Not exactly worth the $8. App doesn't automatically rotate cuts to best fit to the sheet. You have to play with it to make it fit the most you can out of a sheet. I can do that myself in sketchup.

Frustrating!. This could be really useful, but actually ends up just being really frustrating instead. It doesn't allow you to make any changes after you input a measurement. If you need to make any changes or input a measurement or quantity incorrectly - than you have to start over.

Impressive. I have been in the carpentry business for a long time and I couldn't tell you how much time is spent trying to buy and use material in the most efficient way. This app will save me hundreds of dollars in material costs not to mention time. Won't trim another room without this app! Thank you!

Cut calc. This is a great app. Used it on my hallway remodel with 8 different wall measurements. Came out spot on and saved me tons of time with calculations and board demetions. Seeing the boards and how much waist there is was a great touch, gave me confidence in the formulas. Thanks for the greats app.

Needs work. There is a bug that is not allowing me to put two measurements with decimals (5.5"x6.5") in the measurement area. It grays out the decimal so you can not use it. A minor flaw but needs to be fixed

No more Over or Under Estimating. This app conveniently lays out all of the measurements visually so I can go to Home Depot and only buy what I need. Before I used this app, I would always over and under buy lumbar since it was hard for me to calculate in my head. I highly recommend this app.

Worked until iOS 14.. Will not open in iOS 14. Not good when I have a bunch of projects saved. Before that it was 5 stars. I hope they fix.

Great ROI, happy customer. I've been looking for an app like this for a long time. I'm a carpenter /contractor with lots of competition and rising cost of materials. Needs work. Could be a great app but it doesn't let you put in measurements that are longer than available material. I do not need an app to tell me that! Unless I am not doing something correctly, this app needs work!

I Like it. Awesome app. No more scratching my head trying to figure out how to get the most out of a sheet of material. Highly recommended.

Saving time and money. This took me about 5 minutes to master and it probably saved me 2 sheets of plywood and an hour of calculation time. Much cheaper than the other app. Good investment!

Almost a good App. Tried this app for a plywood cut sheet. The results given would have required several stopped cuts and finishing by hand or jig saw. I had made a hand drawn cut sheet for cabinet panels that required 2- 5' x5' sheets of Baltic Birch. I entered the same dimensions into the Cut Calculator and it "calculated" that I would need 3- 5' x5' sheets of Baltic Birch. Save your money.

Time & Money Saver. Made my built in Master Closet project much quicker by using the many awesome features of the cut calculator app. Great tool to use!!

Perfect. Exactly what I needed. Strongly recommend this app for anyone who needs to know how to carve up sheets of plywood for projects. Making wall cabinets from oak plywood. PERFECT

Needs attention to details. The app does an adequate job optimizing panel rough out but has a number of easily fixed problems. The printout has text on medium green and pseudo-wood texture. If printed out on a black & white printer, the measurements on the diagram are difficult to read. You just get the diagram, you don't get a list anywhere. There should be a checklist of panels preferably with an index for cross-referencing. Clicking on Share -> Mail just prints out the material list (i.e. 4' x 8' (6)) rather than the cut order or the cut diagrams. The cut optimization sometimes goes wacky: for example I had a large number of slightly different width cuts all at 31~1/8", if I allowed rotation it burned an entire 4' x 8' on just 4 panels laying out two horizontal and two vehicle. Manually I could get about 8 panels with a much more straight-forward cutting plan. Finally when entering fractions, changing the denominator rested the numerator to 1. I understand the range of the numerator needs to change (no one wants to see 31/8) but the selected index of the new numerator should be relative to the previously chosen numerator rather than spin back to 1.

Good purchase for projects. I use this app a lot for wood projects. The only reason I didn't give it 5/5 is they need to make a universal app that works on the iPhone. I share my iPad with someone so I don't always have it with me, but I always have my phone. But all in all, it was a great purchase

wonderful app. Saves a lot of time for cutting wood or metal. I have a machine and welding shop and use this app all the time cutting pieces out of plate or strips of metal. I used to try and figure all of this on a pad with a calculator but this makes it so much easier. You can also add for the width of your saw blade or cutting torch. Highly recommend this to machinists, welders, and woodworkers.

Needs Two Enhancements. Very attractive app. Works well, but needs two enhancements: (1) in addition to entering width and length, one should also be able to enter quantity. I'm making a bookshelf, and had to enter each of the six shelves individually even though they are all the same size. (2) Once you enter a piece you can't edit it, so if you make a mistake, your only option is to delete the entry and start again. With those enhancements, I'd raise my rating to four or five stars.

Saved me from stupidity. This kept me from way over buying or dreadfully under buying 5 1/4" molding for my living room and dining room. Help was nicely done to help me figure out how to use it

Amazingly useful! One more request?. Love this app. No need to run about looking for graph paper to figure out if I can fit all my cuts into one sheet of plywood or not. If how much wood is all you need to know this app is perfect. I would take it once step further. I ask that the developers add a feature that would allow some manual manipulation of the cuts. I have a project that requires L shaped cuts and this app will not support that. Once I put in the dimensions, it would be nice if I could couple some of the pieces together, but this app optimizes the space, forcing my pieces to separate even when I would prefer they did not. I have also had situations where once I knew all the pieces will fit, I'd seen that they could have been aligned better for planning the easiest possible cuts. Again, a little manual manipulation would have been key here. Next upgrade fellas?

Don't waste you $5. Due to poor discription I bought this app hoping that it would do some basic math calculations in fractions for me - well all it does is layout cuts on a board. It takes some time to figure out how to do that. So I went out and bought a real contractor calcuator, which will do what I was looking to do. Wasted my $5 + (slap in the face) tax!

A saver. This app is a headhach saver! It is well done and saves you money by computing the best way to use your wood. The only downside is that when you add more than one material size it load for a looooonnnng time (maybe 20min) and then crashes. I have the ipad 4, so it is not that i have the oldest ipad around. But this app is so well done and helped me so much in the most annoying part of woodworking, that it earns a 5 star heads up! Thanks!
