Well, it works.... The iPad app is alright, no issues that I've found while playing around with it... but why doesn't it support landscape? It's not possible to view an entire spread at once (some of which look GORGEOUS), and it's a needless annoyance to have to mess around with my folio case that props my device up in landscape. Navigating the app is also a bit oblique and not very intuitive or easy. I'd love to see hyperlinks throughout each issue, e.g. tapping on an item in the table of contents to go directly to that page, or tapping text that says "recipe on p. xx" to jump to it. Still, there are a lot of minor things that could be changed that would help immensely.

Love it!. This is my favorite publication on the iPad by far. Most magazines simply provide issues as PDF or jpeg files. Bon Apetit make great use of the interactive capabilities. As a publication designer myself, I am very impressed with this magazine. Layouts are beautiful and of course the content is top notch. I bought the print subscription for 2 years and get the iPad version for free. Best deal around. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Confusing. I've come to realize that having a cookbook on my iPad doesn't really work for me unless one can search for recipes easily and then put them on the screen sans advertising, etc. and in a manner designed for easiest referral WHILE COOKING. I have no idea how or whether or not the bon appetit magazine app does this, but I want to UNsubscribe and I have no idea now how to do it. IT should be easier. Maybe I'm just too old now to easily learn new things, be able to navigate through another new app, but mostly...how do you unsubscribe???

Never write reviews but.... This is more than just thumbing through a magazine. Very clever integration/imbedding of recipes and info on the pages. I’m hard to impress! I really like this. Downloading the app and getting it to start up was tricky but doable. It’s the interactive pop-up book for adults! Read the complaints; nah.

Update made app pointless. I’ve loved the Bon Appétit iPad app for years and preferred it to print issues (I’ve been subscribed for about 4 years and seen the app experience get better and better over time, with fun swipeable layouts for articles, animation, modules you could toggle to make photos easier to view, etc.) The new update gets rid of all the best features about the app and makes it the same as reading the print issue. In particular, the recipe index and separate section for recipes was very important and made it much easier to cook from directly. In the new version of the app, the recipe text is as small as the print issue (actually smaller because I have an iPad mini) and very inconvenient to actually read. I’m so disappointed I’m considering canceling my subscription—it would be easier and more legible to just pull up the recipes on the website than try to read them off the app. I don’t understand why they would go backward like this unless they fired their whole app team.

Great app gone bad. When I moved abroad, I was thrilled with the option of receiving my BA magazine subscription to my iPad. Loved the layout, the extra features and the feel of the interactive app. Before I downloaded OSX 8.2, the app mysteriously deleted all of my old issues (8) and wouldn't update the library. Finally uninstalled, reinstalled and now it doesn't recognize my account or any past purchases. When I try to set up the All Access option, it says it's already set up and to sign in...even though I'm already signed in. This is especially frustrating because my subscription just renewed, and right now I've paid for a year subscription to a magazine I can't access. Very disappointed with what was a great app and hope that changes and updates will be made available soon.

Gorgeous, but one complaint. The graphics are great and I love how the magazine "flows" from one item to the next. As with the print version, the content is great. My only complaint about this app is the download - I don't mind the big file size, but it won't download in the background. I live overseas with a slow connection, which means it could take several hours to download ... During which I can't use my iPad for anything else. Definitely inconvenient!

Used to be able to read without internet connection, now crashes. This magazine now crashes and the user is unable to open an issue without being online. That never was the case before with this magazine. Issues used to be accessible without wifi after downloading. The inability to read offline makes it pretty much useless -- especially if you plan to read the magazine while traveling. Most magazines do not require the reader to be online to read the magazine after it is downloaded. What a bad feature!!

Conde Nast DOESN'T get apps!. I have subscribed to Bon Appetit for 20 years and was excited for free access to what I've paid for. When I try to login, first I use my account number or my address. Then when I try to load the full access items, I am told to login again! But when I login, it tells me that this account has successfully logged in and that I should try logging in with another method, which is not found. This app is living up to Gourmet Live, which is complete junk (and I deleted). I have the Saveur and Food & Wine apps and know how to get through a login. They only require 1 login, which seems sensible to me. Conde Nast ruined Gourmet's rep with Gourmet Live and I hope they don't ruin Bon Appetit's.

Infuriating app. I never rate apps because no one needs to hear from me, this one has finally pushed me over the edge. Ever since this moved to a subscription-based model it has been nothing but glitchy. The content is great, but only if you can access it before the app crashes on you. I use several subscription-based apps and have never seen anything malfunction like this app. Don’t waste your money.

Ruined a great thing. 100% agree with the others who said this latest version is a giant step backward. The former app took a great magazine and made it even better and more useful. The recipe index, pop up recipe pages, story layouts, animation, and high level of interactivity made it perfect and fun for consuming and cooking from via iPad. It’s not even really an app now so much as it is just a scaled down pdf of the print magazine. It’s hard to read, hard to use, and hard to navigate. Type is to small, you have to flip back and forth between photo and recipe because it’s meant as a two page spread in print. To add insult to injury, they took all the old fabulous issues away (along with all my bookmarks) so I can’t even refer back to those. It’s awful in every way. This was the last great iPad magazine app. I’m fairly devastated. They need to revert back but I suspect they won’t for short-sighted, penny pinching reasons. Way to go Condé Nast.

Can’t Keep Monthly Magazine Copies. You subscribe, but can only temporarily keep copies of the monthly magazines. Indeed, you have to download each copy every time you launch the app. And once your subscription runs out, you lose access to those monthly magazines for ever. The content isn’t unique anymore-the internet is loaded with similar information, though Bon Appetit does aggregate it. And Bon Appetit cannot shake its Manhattan biases; it’s tiring to read about another Brooklyn “hot spot” every month. Move out of New York BA!

Please change it back!. I used to love the Bon Appetit app - the interactivity, the recipe index, the ease of finding and reading the recipes, the creativity and design... why would you ruin a good thing! I loved being able to open an old issue, jump straight to the recipe index and pull up a new recipe that I’ve been meaning to try. Now I have to scroll through the entire magazine, skip past an ad on every other page, and hope I find the recipe I’m thinking of. Re-hire your app team please! I loved it the way it was!

Cool navigation, but missing some features. I'm really impressed with the navigation of the Bon Appetit app. This is the first time that I've actually preferred the tablet version of a magazine to paper! It's fun to page through and easy to get to recipes. I've been waiting for greater functionality over the last year, but haven't seen a few items that would really add to the experience... there is no way to save or bookmark recipes. On the magazine's website, it allows you to save recipes to Pinterest. Each time I read the magazine, I have to jump to the browser, find the recipe and pin it if I want to save it for future use. I would also be thrilled if I could save recipes to Evernote (like the NYTimes allows).

Excellent work. I've been waiting for this addition. You did not disappoint me. I love your " kitchen " recipes. Very useful in my iPad under counter mount. Add a timer app and ur golden. I don't mind the advertisements as the advertisers sometimes add useful information; if not, a flick of the finger and it's gone. With that said, I think 600+ megabytes is too large of a file, and I would like to see them more storage friendly. After all, I have to share space with my family..... So I took a star. You guys are very clever... Keep up the good work.

Cannot link subscription. The three dots they are talking about are not there

Best magazine app yet. Very easy to navigate. Vertical swipe as well as horizontal (to continue reading an article or feature without having to go page by page). Easy recipe section set up special to use the iPad for point by point instructions (enlarged for easy viewing at a distance.) Also some nice interactive features as well. Kutos to the developers for making the digital version much more than the printed one.

Ruined digital format. I love BA the one star is for the change in the format of the digital content. There used to be a recipe page in the beginning with pictures next to each listing . I hate that fact that they removed that feature. When I plan my meals I often referenced that page . Bring it back

A Giant Step Backward. The latest update turned a great app into a useless one. It was easy to navigate and easy to use. No more. The best feature, a single page with all the recipes, is gone. It’s now just a scan of the print issue. I canceled my subscription to Food and Wine when they did this with their app and really hope I don’t have to cancel this one. I love Bon Appétit and hope they’ll listen to the users and push another update that brings back the features that made it so good.

Update made my subscription useless. The recent update turned the previously well-designed app into something useless... essentially just a pdf of the magazine with no interactive features, including no ability to bring up ingredient lists and recipes. On my iPad, the print is so small, I can’t even read it, it won’t allow me to pinch enlarge or turn the iPad sideways to try to enlarge print enough to actually read it. If this isn’t changed back by the end of the month, I’ll be cancelling my subscription after years of enjoying the magazine. Seriously- what were you thinking?

Works fine. People rating above aren't paying attention to the options while signing in. Type in your account or address. Then on the next prompt DON'T type in your email and password if you ALREADY have one. That screen is for the creation of a NEW set of login creds. Select the option for already having a login and password.

Cone Nast Password Issues. Even though I entered my subscription #, it wouldn't let me enter a my email address/password to login. I had to use my existing New Yorker email/password combo, since it's part of the Conde Nast group. The popup window with the list of Conde Nast sites had appeared way off to the left of my ipad's screen, so I couldn't read them at first--it was only when I tried to reset the password from my computer that I received a list, and realized I should try that--and it worked! I don't know what that will mean for the "auto-renewing" part, since that's a different email address/password combo than I use for my Bon Appetit print magazine subscription, though. This business of one password for all Conde Nast sites seems like a hack waiting to happen. Beautiful display, and I like the navigation. Similar to the New Yorker app that way.

Slow To The Point of Useless. When I first downloaded the app, I was so excited I was already planning to see if I could cancel the print subscription. Then I started trying to use it. Every new page requires a download, and it takes forever even on a good connection. The wait time is far too long, even for the most casual reader. I will not use this again. If the developers know what they are doing, they should be serving up nothing more than HTML and appropriately downsized images. If they are trying to deliver magazine pages, they are nuts.

Not ready for prime time!. I installed it three times (including the "update"), and each time it disappeared at the conclusion of install. Obviously, this needs more work. Update: fourth time was the charm. After it disappeared forthe third time, I got an update message and this time it downloaded and stayed put. The magazine is very impressive. Tons of content, lots of recipes, lots of interactivity. It's quite beautiful to look at. I'm downgrading it one star for the initial bugginess, but also because there is no bookmarking function for the recipes. To "keep" a recipe, you have to email it to yourself and then copy and paste to a recipe app, like The Recipe Box. I could not find a bookmark tab the way that Food & Wine has.

Latest update has frankly ruined the app. This had been one of my favorite apps, making reading Bon Appétit an immersive, interactive experience. I truly can’t name a similar app that had this look and feel. Now, it’s trash. Sorry, your update has taken a clear 5-star app and turned it into something boring and forgettable! Did you lay off the staff that created all the digital features? Much harder to read on top of way more ads! This just feels lazy. Not worth the battery on iPad anymore, I’m afraid to report. Please go back to the previous format. DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU ENJOY THIS APP!

Terrible.. Bon Appetit is Incredibly kludgy! Falls into a crash loop saying "cannot open downloaded file. Close app and re-download." over and over. Compare it to the iPad magazine Savor to get a feel for just how bad the Bon Appetit's interface, sign-in and download process are. Also, I want my Pasta Perfect app back. I purchased it separately. Where is it? It disappeared with install of OS5 newsstand. Apple. You should Censure this product until they figure out how to interface seamlessly with newsstand. It makes the iPad seem crummy.

Way to sloooooow and dumps content. Why oh why when your issues are so huge is it not possible to download in the background? And why does app dump all the issues I have downloaded and then make me reload them? And why does it periodically forget me and then make me go through conniptions to get back in? Yes, when I once and a while can read the issues, I enjoy the iPad version, but that doesn't mean I want to sit there and babysit the app while it grinds through its download. Again and again.

Some recipes can't be viewed. This is the first magazine I tried on my iPad. It is really nicely designed overall and pretty intuitive. Beautiful photography. As others have mentioned, when I tap the red recipe "button," sometimes it displays and then quickly recedes again. I found that after trying a few times or accessing through the index, I could get it to display. Very annoying, so I hope that gets fixed. I'm not sure I would pay a full $20 annual subscription knowing that this bug is in there. It's a food magazine-recipe functionality should be high priority to get right.

No overall recipe search. So far searches yield magazines. Their magazines are fabulous but when I’m searching it’s for a recipe not an issue.

Very buggy, with potential. Pros: content sometimes well laid out, some good ideas for organization Cons: Each version I've had has been buggy and unpredictable. It's also not very intuitive, which they seem to understand, evidenced by the copious "first time user" type instructions that pop up periodically, even after more than a year of use. I want to use it, because it could be a great app…but it's a really unproductive way for me to access this content.

Format Good - Type size TERRIBLE. I was a long time subscriber of Bon Appetit’s print version until I grew weary of stacks of magazines and recycling. This morning I decided to try subscribing to the digital version. I read other reviews and decided I could work around the small type by printing the recipes I want to use only to discover this is not possible. Well, I can take a screen shot, edit it and then print a photo. Not very practical. I like the simple layout of recipes, but reading articles gives me a headache. Without a change to the app I won’t be renewing next year. Too bad for both the magazine and myself. I gave the app three stars because I love the content.

Subscription Means Nothing. I got a special free year subscription and I was excited to get digital access to all the issues... but you don’t. It only applies to the monthly issues (of which 2 were posted) the others are specials like “thanksgiving” or “party ideas” and that would be awesome except those aren’t included with the subscription! They have to be paid for by issue! So, 50+ issues available to browse in the app and only 4 were accessible with my paid subscription. Useless.

Bring back the recipe index with images. In this iteration of the app, the most useful thing about it - the recipe index with clickable images that was formerly at the start of each issue in the app - no longer exists. That index was incredibly useful. It allowed me a to feel secure in recycling my paper copies of the magazine because I had an easily accessible soft copy of each recipe in the app. I would frequently peruse just the recipe indexes ahead of planning dinner parties. The static (unclickable) index without images that is at the end of each issue is nowhere near as useful. Please, please bring the clickable index with images back.

Where are the recipes?. I thought I was paying for a collection of Bon Appétit recipes, not a back catalog of magazines.

New Cover, Old Issue. Each month the new issue cover appears in my newsstand, replacing the previous month's issue, however, when I open the "New" issue, the previous month's issue appears. If I go to the App Store and touch "Open" for the new issue, the previous issue still continues to appear. When I am mysteriously successful in bringing in the new issue, I've gone through so many gyrations, I have no idea how I was finally successful. Although I'm not especially fond of reading the magazine electronically, it is a lot easier to read since the print edition has become impossible to read with the ever shrinking font size and the annoying use of light blue print. I have issues in my library that are over twenty years old but in the last few years, I have found myself throwing a current issue away and realize that I haven't even read through the whole issue and don't care. When my subscription expires, I won't renew it.

RECIPE OPENING PROBLEMS!!!. The app is great when the recipes work. Pages open up fast enough with a good connection, idk why people would complain about that. There are a million points for that to bottleneck... BUT there is some bug where the recipes will open for about half a second and then close........ I've tried restarting the app, then restarting my iPad Air, and reinstalling the app... Still the same problem over and over. Please fix Conde naste/Bon appetit!!!

Can’t link subscription. There aren’t 3 dots in the upper right corner!! Pls pls figure out how to let people link their subscription. I beg

Big Download but Worth the Wait. It's a huge file per issue, but the design, organization, features and images are very good. Besides great content, the app is actually functional...way better than the print version. The size of each issue is a big deal...please figure out some additional compression or load strategies. Thanks. Nice work.

Can't view Recipes. I have been a subscriber for over a year and it was a great app until this recent version. I can't open the recipes because they pop up and immediately go away. Please fix, because without this feature working correctly the digital version is useless.

Wonderful Magazine and Decent App. When I learned my normal subscription to Bon Appetit included a digital copy, I was ecstatic. Initially, on my 1st generation iPad, the experience of reading the magazine I loved on a touch screen was good. Then, when I upgraded to an iPad with retina display - wow. The images are more eye popping and more beautiful than the paper version - that is for certain. Some people have complained about the size of the download, but Bon Appetit is a highly visual experience so it makes sense that high resolution graphics are going to require a sizable download. Typically, I keep all back issues archived and only have the current and previous issue downloaded at a time to conserve space. I've seen others post about numerous technical problems but I haven't experienced any of them. It's an amazing cooking magazine and an excellent application if you have one of the newer iPads.

Disappointing. Takes forever to download; I walked away for 10 minutes and it was still downloading after I got back. Also incredibly difficult to navigate around. I was trying to find a previous issue, and I tapped, tapped, tapped around the screen trying to find a library of previous issues. I finally found it, but I can't tell you how I did it. Other magazines, Time, SI, etc., you tap once on the bottom of the screen and the library pops up. Hope improvements are coming.

Very Visually Appealing. I am beyond satisfied with the Bon Appetite digital magazine! Very beautifully laid out and very visually appealing. Yes there are ads, just like a real magazine. You swipe right to go pass them. Just how you would turn a page in a magazine. I love how you can click to open recipes. I also love how my place is saved when I navigate out of the app and go back in.

Doesn't work in landscape orientation. The images are beautiful, the recipes are pretty diverse, but why would anyone design a cooking app that requires a vertical orientation? Initially looking at the magazine homepage, landscape orientation is an option, but as soon as you download an issue and try to use it, you're forced into a vertical orientation. But I want to prop up my iPad on my cover which requires a landscape orientation to stay upright! This is painfully frustrating and clearly a major design flaw. Also, I find it a challenge to navigate back and forth from various areas on the app. One needs to rub the top of the screen "just so" to get the options like "library" to show up. It's annoying. Note, I'm using an iPad Pro and paying digital subscriber.

Absolutely Beautiful. As a print subscriber, I look forward to each and every month. A subscription to the very affordable print edition gets the digital edition. Register and it downloads to your iPad Newsstand. So well done (not the food, the magazine). This is the way ALL e-magazines should be. Totally love it. The food photography looks good enough to eat on the Retina Display iPad. The beautiful layout is easy to follow. The interactivity works great. Recipes full screen to follow on your kitchen counter. There are even embedded videos! It just keeps getting better. Highly recommend. * July 2012 downloaded within minutes. Previous issues did take longer so perhaps they've addressed the problem.

Fantastic App. I've been getting the print subscription for the last few years, and decided to make a paperless switch to the digital version. I had expectations going in that it would fall a bit short of the paper version in some ways, so I have been very happy to find the digital version MORE enjoyable than the print. They've managed to make the digital an interactive experience that goes beyond being just a magazine. I also love how the recipes are set up and the sleek pages where the additional information is just a touch away. Other magazines need to study what Bon Appetit has done with their app.

WAIT why is this portrait mode/pdf-like??. I love the magazine/content, and was looking forward to having access to it via ipad app. Immediately turned off by the portrait-only, copy-of-print-magazine-only. I use a bluetooth keyboard / case and I rarely use my ipad in portrait mode! I want to be able to search content, etc., as I can on the Bon Appetit website. What gives??

Delicious!!!!. This app is awesome!! What a great way to enjoy Bon Appetit! The interactive elements take the magazine to a new level. It's just amazing. I can't get enough. The recipes are wonderful and they have found such a convenient / practical way of displaying them on the iPad. Brilliant. Gorgeous. Can't imagine going back to a paper magazine after this.

New App. I can’t believe the new app is considered an upgrade. Totally un user-friendly. I miss the index for the recipes. The print was large enough that I could read it without my glasses. Now I can’t even blow up the recipe on the page to make it legible. Super annoying!! I’d like to give it zero stars! I have to re download all of my issues!!

Overall worth it. It takes a few minutes to figure out but once you do it's a great magazine. I just wish there was a way to star or bookmark pages to make it easier to come back and cook from. It does take a while to download but at least you can read pages that have downloaded while waiting for the others.

You had one job ... easy access to recipes. I could see getting rid of all the bells and whistles. I don’t need fancy animation or a never-ending scroll of what have you, but for god’s sake, why get rid of the one thing people would consistently reference and even go back to months down the road? The recipe index was the cherry on top of a great experience. By removing it and its pop-up feature, you’ve made it infinitely more difficult to bookmark, email, or even whimsically pick a random issue of the past and select a never before made recipe. I get it, times are tight and there are definitely bigger problems in the world, but man, this is a bummer.

Poor user experience. New editions of this magazine do not automatically download in the background. You have to keep the Newsstand app open on the magazine and wait ages for it to finish downloading.

Really slapdash, not worth paying for. If Conde Naste expects people to pay good money for their digital content, they need to do better than this. It has not been updated for larger iPads (which have been out since 2015!!!), and everything is a blurry mess. The magazine itself is great, but save your money for a company that is actually functioning in the 21st century.

Bad app. Very disappointed in app. I was under the impression that this would work like going through a magazine. Waiting and waiting for one page to load is disappointing. Plus, while one page is loading, you have to keep the app open and if you minimize the app,the download stops. This is absolutely the worse app I've ever used.

Better. I really like the current format- actually hated the old one so much I didn’t use the app for a long time (sorry everyone!). Suggestion to the developer: would it be possible to allow users to choose the format they prefer in settings? That way everybody could use the app the way they like it best.

Love. Love this app. I,m am a professional cook and bring my I pad every where. This app. Is easy to search and save favorited. The recipes are above the other mags. Love it.

New update is the worst. Where did all of the old functionality go that made the magazine so useful?

Can't download issue. I subscribed 10 months ago and was able to download the all the issues until the January issue. The issue won't download. Very disappointing.

The app is meh. The app is pretty bare bones which is fine considering I'm only using it for the content. scrolling up/down to get through pages would be nice.

Why no PDF version?. It used to be that you could choose either pdf (so like the print version) or the terrible format where you have to scroll up and down pages. Also the layout of the magazine gets worse all the time - bad 1960s and 70s.

Downgraded app. It used to be this amazing interactive app that allowed you to see all of the recipes at the beginning and jump to them and allowed you to view the recipe on its own page. Now it is an uneditable PDF that you can’t even zoom in to view the recipe. It’s a horrible experience. You can get these PDF’s for free usually from your local library app and not have to pay for this. Or just go to their website since you can at least zoom in on the website. Hopefully they will switch back.

Bon Appetit iPad app. Don't bother downloading. It is impossible to sign on. I guess if you like picking locks then maybe this is for you. I am just going to be happy with my print subscription. It is too bad, I use Food & Wine app all the time.

BA. the app keeps crashing. Granted I have an iPad1 but have the latest OS and it s/b compatible. The concept seems wonderful. I will keep trying.

So cool!. They have improve their APPS, MORE INTERACTIVE AND THE PICTURES ARE SPECTACULAR. GOOD WORK

It’s alright. I love the magazine but the app isn’t as great. I’d wish it was more interactive. This feels like a scrolling through adobe reader...

Like the update but can’t see full recipe. The recent (2023) update is great! I like the interactive app better than the PDF style version. However there seems to be a bug with the recipe cards when the recipe extends beyond the screen. There no scroll bar or way to view the rest of the recipe. Please fix so we can actually cook from the magazine!

Hate the new update. I absolutely hate the new update. Please change it back. The old version was fun and interactive. I loved the recipe index as an easy way to find links to the recipe I wanted. I had to update to download the Sept 2019 issue and it was very upsetting to find that it’s basically like flipping through the magazine which I receive in hard copy anyways. It makes it way more difficult to read it on my iPad mini as the font is too small scaled down and there is no way to zoom. It seems like a leap backward to placate people who don’t understand technology. If people wanted this format, they should read the magazine in print. Please bring the interactive format back

This app has been abandoned.. Seems like we’re at Version 1 of the app. Was the old app too expensive to maintain and without profit? Such a shame as I liked the old app and admired how it worked... very elegant. The new version has nothing to admire. Simplistic crap. Why do I have to give this app one star? I’d rather give it zero!

Keep Pasta Perfect. Pasta perfect is brilliant , the update deletes this. I won't update for this reason

Exceeding expectations! Fab app. I really love the Bon Appetit app. I cook a lot a really love the recipe index and the "step by step" instruction option. I may even discontinue my paper version if this online app keeps exceeding my expectations like it does now!

New update of the app won’t load.. I have been using the digital version for many years now. This latest update required my to download all of my back issues and since that started won’t even open. Please bring back the previous version.

Regression. I used the first app that came out, back in 2014 and I have to say that the new format is a regression. It went from interactive to a magazine in PDF format. No instructions, no easy way to navigate through the recipes. Wish they would go back to the original format. Sad that this is what the app had come too. I love the physical magazine, and I love the YouTube channel, hate the app.

New app deletes Pasta Perfect app? If so, not cool.. I'm hesitant to update if it means I'll lose the Bon Appetit Pasta Perfect app. Can you confirm it'll still be on my iPad if I update? Amazingly the FAQ doesn't address the status of that app other than it'll disappear. I tried to ask more about it since the FAQ doesn't address it and goes to a dead link. Not good.

My Culinary Bible. I have learned so much from Bon Appétit over the 20 years I’ve subscribed. I tell my foodie friends to read it. I use it while travelling for meal ideas. Love it.

Can’t exit from issue. App is stuck in the last issue read without any method of exiting

Crashes iOS 11.3 iPad Pro 9.7. Nothing more to add crashes always

Latest update ruined the app. I’ve been a long time subscriber through various iterations of the app. Each new update seems to come with less functionality. First we lost landscape viewing and now with this latest updated, every single thing separating this from the paper copy. It’s like they just took pictures of the magazine and uploaded them to the app. What a bad decision to stop investing time and money in what was once a fantastic interactive experience. I feel like this one will lose subscribers. Might be time to look elsewhere.

Ex Bon appetit lover. While I love the magazine and used to love this app, the continual pop ups asking me to subscribe (I already do) and/or buy the app (which I already have) make using the website almost impossible. If you click a link, the ad for the app appears...if you close it, the Bon appetit home page is virtually empty....just the headers appear but nothing else. Fix it. There are so many problems with the app, subscription services.

Good Mag...Brain Dead Programmers. BA Always a good magazine. But in the mag app you can not bookmark a specific recipe to come back to. Then if you try it and love it there is no way to save it. I have an Epicurious recipe box that I store recipes in regularly. But thanks to programmers who seem to have no idea what a recipe is, there is no way to save an excellent recipe. Can't even use the built in apple print, they haven't figured out how to do this apparently, or someone thinks if we can print it maybe they won't sell magazines.

Update deletes Pasta App. The Bon Appetit Pasta App gets deleted with this update. That is not the way to treat a customer! I will NEVER subscribe to this magazine!

App is awful. The Bon Appetite app is pretty awful . I hope it gets sorted out, still haven't received my first print copy So I hoped the app would be useful in the interm. Nope!

Ok ok, so it isn't perfect. My 5 star rating is here to offset some of the poor reviews here. So it isn't the most perfect app but it is very functional and fun to use. Navigation is simple and easy. The design and layout of the mag is gorgeous. So there!

Once good, now horrible!. Terrible waste of money. This is my second subscription year. The first year was excellent with understandable glitches. This updated version is frustrating, cannot access the online recipe indexand customer service is useless and frustrating. Supposedly not their problem, but their online section's. No indication on how to coomunicate, with this deptt

Be persistent; it's wonderful. Great app. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the convoluted procedure for setup/sign in. Like others, I got caught in a loop of "please sign in" after I already had - but then I went back and carefully reread the directions - including the FAQs - and got it to work. Downloaded all of my previous editions already!

What happened to interactive online version?. When I went to download my magazine on my iPad last month, I saw that all the interactive functionality the magazine had was gone. All I have now is a static image of a page that I can’t zoom in on. The only way I’ll be able to read the magazine now will be on a desktop computer which is hugely inconvenient. This change in the app has rendered my subscription utterly useless.

Worst “up grade ever”. I loved the old apt- recipes were easy to find a sort. You could pull a clear user friendly recipe to read will cooking or a printable recipe to take when you shop Now your just a food a wine clone- endless scrolling to search back recipes in magazines Makes me wish it wasn’t free so I could have the pleasure of canceling I LOVE BA but feel ripped off - you had hands down the best cooking apt and now you are just one of the mediocre mass

Too many bugs. When this app works it is great, but there have been too many issues to continue using. Currently the recipes will start to launch, and then immediately close. Sometimes you can get them to launch, but they will not stay open. Previous issues have included the app constantly crashing. Fix the bugs and it's 4 or 5 stars easily.

Won't download in the background, fixed type for old iPads look pixelated. There are two major downloading drawbacks. 1) You can't queue up multiple issues to download (one after another). 2) You can't download in the background while doing something else (unless you're reading another issue in the app). Ignoring those stumbling blocks, there is also the issue of graphics and text "optimized" for the iPad (non-retina) which looks noticably pixelated on the new iPad. Just rendering the text as text instead of graphics would have made a huge difference. Maybe these can be updated going forward?

Too Many Ads | Too Long to Download. This is a great example of letting designers go amuck. Due to its bloated content, it routinely takes 30-35 minutes to download. The May, 2014 issue, for example, has about 82 "pages," of which 46, or 56% of the content were ads. The cooking content is lost in the ad clutter. BA really needs to take a look at how National Geographic or Scientific American publish their e-magazines.

Love this app. Love the Bon Appetit app. As a print subscriber, the iPad version is included. The recipe index is super helpful, allowing step by step following and easy links to the web site. Highly recommend.

The best thing since sliced bread. The digital edition of Bon Appétit is by far my favorite app for the iPad. The food porn shows in beautiful high-resolution on the new iPad. Don't forget to check out the recipe mode, with easy step-by-step instructions and video tutorials!

Love the Bon Appetite app!. I love this app. The graphics are clean, the extra items that co e only with the app are worthwhile. The way the recipes appear make it easy to use while you cook or to take to the store to shop for ingredients. I liked embedded videos that show how to make the recipes as well.

Fantastic digital magazine!. Wow! Bon Appetit has achieved a fantastic transition from paper to digital. What a great use of the format. It's such a wonderful interactive experience that only enhances the already beautiful photos and recipes the magazine boasts.

Epicuriuos to this - NG. With Epi's syncing deficiencies, now becoming too much to accept, exploring the promotional link to a laggardly publishing media method of transcribing paper to electronic is a waste to them and to me. So why would you proactively divert existing customers from ,again a sync defective Epi iApp, to a choice where you can’t even save a great recipe for further use??? Been enjoying Epi for years and now have to start dealing with sync and mixed marketing focus...elsewhere is easier to my daily relaxation time and planning. Sad for such a business.

Suddenly awful. I have been a subscriber for more than 20 years and have enjoyed digital access the last 5 or so, but in January of 2017 quite suddenly I could no longer download my purchases without purchasing again. After several ineffectual emails with customer service I gave up. I am not sure I will even subscribe to the print version anymore.

New app is not accessible. Congrats app developers...you made this app unusable and not accessible to the millions of folks who have a hard time reading small print. So a great magazine has a crappy app, and I won’t be reading it any more. No option to view a text only version, no double click to expand, not even the ability to pinch expand. What a piece of crap!

New Update. The new update to this app is horrible. You have to fully close out the app to be able to go to a different issue. I also do not like that there is no longer a recipe index. If you want to quickly go to a recipe in the issue you have to flip through the entire magazine. The whole point of having a digital issue is so it’s easier to use, this update makes it worse. Very disappointed.

Frustrating. Since the most recent update, I cannot read any issues "offline". Every time I open the app, it says 'updating library', and all issues I have previously downloaded are no longer available, unless I download them again. This makes my subscription worthless, since I can only read it at home, after waiting 5 -10 minutes to download an each issue multiple times.

Digital version. I not a fan of the new digital format, it’s difficult to read the small print on the recipes. The recipe index is gone witch was one of the features I appreciated, recipes from the previous years seem to be missing.

Homerun. I love how this app approached putting their print version on-line. It totally complements the magazine and is incredibly functional. Love how it is organized around meals with pictures.

Doesn't work. Wife has subscription excited to have them on iPad followed all instructions created account, signed in, app is so frustrating will only let you subscribe which take u in a circle of sign up ... On you already have an account please sign in ... I'm already signed in !!!! thought it was me after reading other reviews and an hour of $&cking the app gave up. Great magazine support no help for digital editions ...

Good layout, annoying animations. While I like the format of this magazine and find it to be worth the subscription price, the animations get annoying. I don't need to see section titles blow in from offscreen. Even worse, if you're listening to music while reading this magazine, the animations pause your music. What a nuisance.

Beautiful but flawed app - quits automatically from time to time. I am so happy that I subscribed to this magazine, but for some reason, the app will quit automatically and lose the place in the issue. There are times when it isn't even worth the fuss, and I want to go back to the print issue. Conde Nast needs to fix this issue!

App doesn't respond. I installed the app and subscribed on a month-2-month basis. I am unable to download an issue. The app closes as soon as I open it. Tech support is not very helpful. I have uninstalled & reinstalled the app almost 10 times. I have "force quit" the app & restarted over 10 times. I wish I had listened to other reviews and not purchased. Now waiting to see how to get a refund.

App only for iPad only has portrait orientation?!. Seriously?! How is someone supposed to use this? You can’t prop it up to cook from and reading is a huge pain! How hard is it to make landscape orientation a thing, and why on earth was not included from the start, given that this is an IPAD-ONLY app? The orientation makes using this app so difficult that the content is irrelevant. Use the website, I guess.

Don't waste your money. This app is horrible, don't waste your money. It's filled with advertisements. I bought the "Paris" issue and after 20 minutes I still have not found the article on Paris! Not user friendly at all. Once you start pushing the arrows you get lost in the magazine and its hard to get back to where you began. I suggest just buying the magazine at the store, much easier to read

Latest revision is terrible. Like others have said, this new app version is terrible. I subscribe strictly because of the enjoyment I’ve had with how the prior version not only made it easy to access the recipes in a straightforward area, but it was visually fun to explore and follow the steps in a recipe. This is essentially a pdf of the magazine. Not recommended at all. If this stays as it is it is doubtful I’ll renew my subscription.

Not all there. Has an icon for "all access" but it only asks you to log in & then states you have already registered - never gives you access beyond what you have downloaded. Took 3 emails to "customer care" to be told the icon is worthless. As far as accessing content from downloaded issues, works great, makes trying new recipes convenient.

Keeps on quitting :/. I love this app when it actually opens. However, the last week has been a waste as I've been unable to actually open the app. What a bummer makes thanksgiving meal more difficult to plan! Please fix or I will not renew after this month!

Great Content, but now App impossible. As a long subscriber I love the content, the type of food and the presentation. Until the update the app was a great match of content and functionality and a pleasure to use. The new update took most of the user experience away. No more interactive features and, the most irritating thing, the font size! Seriously?? Completely useless. Please Condenast you must revert this.

Good but needs support for landscape. As an iPad app only this app would be much improved in landscape. I use a keyboard which holds up the iPad in landscape but in portrait it is awkward and unstable. The app is complete itself works well with all the recipes in the magazine. Plus nice pictures and other features.

Search not working. You used to be able to search past issues with key words. Now even though I am signed in, it’s telling me I’m not and only searches the current issue. Pretty pointless really. Not an improvement . I have issues with other Condé Nast magazine apps as well. Not very user friendly.

The update destroyed what was so good. If you have any kind of vision problems, you can no longer read this magazine on an iPad. There is no way to enlarge the very tiny print. Additionally, all the interactive features are gone, the scroll down to read an article feature is gone, and the whole thing is now basically a simple PDF of the print magazine. It’s much harder to cook and learn from. What an absolute update fail.

Why the change?. I loved being able to click on individual recipes and have them open up full screen. It was a great cooking tool, but now I can’t even tap the screen to go to the table of contents. I’m hoping maybe your digital guy was sick this month, so you did the best you could in his absence and that next month will be back to normal. I’ve been loving my subscription for the past few years, but I don’t care for this at all.

BA’s trends. Still love getting Bon Appétit, but I live in an area of these great United States where a sizable number of the ingredients used are unavailable. Sure, I can buy some of them online but that doesn’t always appeal or I get some weird item instead!

Ms. This is so much more fun than the print magazine. It's interactive!! Still too many ads but they look better. The directions to get to library could be a lot better. it took me 3 tries to figure it out

Dissatisfaction with Functionality. I wanted the magazine app to easily access featured recipes. Instead, I get articles I am not interested in and pictures of dishes which can’t be located. A waste of my time and money for a subscription. Even the survey does not function correctly. I could not go on because I kept getting a message to complete each row which I had done. Perhaps there is a built in glitch when response are negative.

I can’t locate recipes I want.. Don’t like the vertical only format and definitely don’t like not being able to search for AP recipes by ingredients. I see a BA video link and not found a way to find the recipe in the AP. It’s basically a magazine. Even indexing is by page number! Who needs a page # in digital format? I want to find a recipe for several ingredients I have handy. New York Times Cooking is much better for searching recipes. DISAPPOINTED

App ruined. Canceling my subscription. I’ve subscribed to the app for almost 8 years (and have decades old print copies of the mag), and was willing to pay rather than find what recipes I could online because of the quality product. But when BA changed the app to a (slightly) glorified .pdf, they ruined it. It is much inferior to what one can do on the web. I’m sorry to go, and maybe someday if I happen to hear that BA has brought back a useful format/interface, I’ll resubscribe. But I won’t be holding my breath. 😢

Don't buy if. I would not buy this app if you have an older iPad. The updates surpassed my iPad and I couldn't access the magazine. I called Bon Appetit to ask that they send me the print version for the remainder of my subscription. They refused, but offered to take an additional $20 for a new subscription. I then asked Apple, who directed me to the App provider, for a partial refund. They both refused. So I have only accessed 1/2 of my $20 subscription and have no recourse. Very frustrated. I do not think my requests were unreasonable.

Worthless after the latest “update”.. We loved this app as we could email the recipes to each other in our family, discuss, and plan for new yummy things. That ability, along with the recipe index, links, everything that made the mobile app useful went away. I probably won’t renew as these changes just don’t fit our usage and lifestyle. Sad.

Upset by the update. I love reading the physical edition when I’m on the go but at home I have always used the app to find and use recipient. The beautiful digital editions of the mag are all gone! Replaced with pdf scans of the mag with full page adds every other page. So slow and terribly boring to flick through. I don’t understand how you can take away these digital editions from us and just replace with PDFs. The app might as well just be deleted...

The Learning Curve. It takes a few minutes to figure out the app but once you get the hang of it, the experience is far superior to reading the traditional paper-based version.

Bring back the old app!. It looks like the app’s been updated but maybe that’s the wrong word because all the helpful features, like the recipe index, and fun interactions, like the clickables, scrolls, and dynamic illustrations that were part of what made the app version of the magazine special are no longer. Now the issues have been reduced to a pdf/digital-version of the magazine. So disappointing!

World changing.. Straightforward recipes that are accessible to any level of cook. The app is beautifully designed (just for portrait mode, but it doesn’t bother me at all) and has absolutely made me a better cook.

New update is a huge downgrade. I miss the interactivity of the app before the update. Now it’s just another pdf reader, and for what benefit? Please change back to how the previous articles read on the app. They were so well crafted and I preferred them to the magazine because the colors were more vibrant and the interface of the magazine was very well designed. The content is great still but this update needs to go.

Best use of iPad. Very useful app. Clean and easy to use design. Don't bother with the print edition anymore. Cooking is what makes the iPad a worthwhile purchase and this app fully takes advantage of its form and function.

Huge regression.. I love the content, but this app update is a huge regression. It’s basically a PDF of the magazine, and it doesn’t take any any advantage of the digital format. Not to mention that the print is tiny and I can’t even zoom in. This is really a disappointment because the previous version of this app was quite excellent. It’s hard to read and it’s hard to cook with.

No recipe box. I have been subscribing to Bon Appetite for 30 years or so and love the amazing recipes. I like reading the recipes on the IPad, but as far as I can tell, there's no way to save the recipes you want to use. You also can’t print or bookmark. This is literally worse than every other online recipe app I use (NY Times, Epicurious). And the publishers clearly don’t care. (I posted an earlier version of this review long ago and many others have complained to no avail.) So I’m done with BA. :-(

Recipes are just too upscale.. This magazine seems to be published for the professional chef. Recipes do not seem home cook friendly. I subscribed to this magazine for a couple of years, but stopped. The recipes seemed time consuming and often required ingredients I couldn't find locally. I like everyday, quick, supermarket friendly recipes.

Very bad development. Takes so long to download an issue it's ridiculous! And just eats up your battery. Plus, since I have a paper subscription also, why not eliminate the ads from print-subscribers d/l's? At least it was free and I can simply delete it. Oh, and since I'm whining, it would be nice to have a landscape option, as that is how most iPad cover stands work; at least the several I've had.
