AMAZING. I love Japan and I wanted to learn the language I was looking for apps and first I found this app so I tried it and it is amazing now I know a lot of Japanese

Great!. Used this to try and teach my best friend Japanese for our trip to Japan. I have been fluent in Japanese since I was maybe 7 so I didn’t need the help, but using this app with my friend to get her to understand the basics, was perfect (I helped her along the way, of course). By the time we went to Japan, she knew how to order food, ask where things were, and buy things on her own. I was really proud of her. She wasn’t able to have a full on conversation with a local, which is to be expected of course, but this app is perfect for learning basic phrases and words in the Japanese language. Totally recommend to anyone who’s willing to start the language and/or needs some basics for a business trip or personal trip. The app is completely free and works perfectly. Thank me later!

Great app, but a huge issue.. I purchased the full version a while back... And got a new phone, then tried the "restore purchase" thing and it won't work. It loads and loads and loads but never restores my purchases. Please fix this and I'll change it to 5 stars :)

Sniping in last visited screen. Currently, app screen doesn’t store user visiting paths, means, when I go to content page while I am learning in specific section, no shortcut to go back directly to me my last place. I need to find from beginning. This is so time wasting.

Perfect for tourists. I am visiting Tokyo soon and was looking for a free 'general conversation + pronunciation' app. This IS the app you are looking for!

Very easy to learn on. I was able to count to 100 in like 10 minutes and learn a few words. This app is the best app I used so far

Vocab. This is a good app for vocabulary when you are just about to travel, but if you actually want to learn the language, it doesn’t teach any grammar, or explain the culture behind the verbs.

UI is confusing, way to expensive. Most of the content requires a subscription of $5 per month to access. Even if that were a reasonable price, the UI doesn’t match the screen shots here on the App Store. The content is obscured by a giant search box that takes up half the screen, and a giant navigation bar that takes up the other half of the screen. The search box don’t even search the dictionary. Save your money and find one of the free or single purchase dictionary apps.

Big help in Japan!. I used the phrases from this app during our trip to Japan!

Significant changes for the worse. Misleading photos and UI, and while this was useful prior to the paywall, almost all valuable features are behind the monthly subscription now.

A little trouble with the flash cards. I think this app is almost perfect. It is nice for beginners and for people who are trying to relearn. I am having trouble with getting the flashcard section to work though. I can have someone else help me with it. But, it is harder to do while I am alone.

Amazing app. Love this app it is very helpful and easy to use. My sister introduced me to anime last year and ever since then I’ve been obsessed with Japan. It was hard to learn much Japanese through the shows so when I got this app it was like luxury compared to google translate. Besides the fact that I have to pay for any extra things I want to learn this is great! On top of all that my thirteen year old sister loves this app to!

Unable to restore my purchase. I purchased a few years back and now I am unable to restore my purchase.

Pretty good. This app is useful but some of the translations are either incorrect, or they need to elaborate more on the use of some words.

Someone not fluent.. I’ve been trying to learn Japanese for a while now, and unlike other Japanese learning apps that make you cite the word, this one is so much better because it shows how to pronounce, write, and the spelling. It’s basically perfect for practice instead of spending money on lessons. While some things you have to pay for, as long as you can learn the basics that’s good enough. One thing I’d like to say though, is when you do start getting familiar with the language, you notice how some of the phrases are a bit too long. But, other than that. This is a good way to learn Japanese when you’re a beginner!

Amazing App! Even when it's free!. This app is my ideal go-to app for quick and easy Japanese words to use. The best part is even the free version has A LOT of words to use! And useful ones too! Though the Full version is a bit pricy, but I can see why. I can teach you how to write in Japanese slightly if you really pay attention to the spelling of the words. Over all a really amazing app, and much appreciated! My thanks goes to the developers. Thank you! 10/10

Love it. This app is very useful for learning basic Japanese and as a pocket guide when you just need a phrase or two.

Pay. It’s a great app. It’s been helping me learn a lot. My one anger is that you have to pay for some of the icons and I’m only 13 and don’t have much money. But other than that, it’s a great app

Lots of misspelling words. At first this app looked great with good vocabulary and phrases selection (paid version). When you start getting a little more familiar with the language and expressions, you are able to notice a lot of misspelled words though. I’ve been using 3 language apps simultaneously and comparing the 3, this seems to be the one I trust less when it comes to structure and spelling.

Not sure of accuracy but good. This has words that conflict with my current text, so i can’t say for sure who is more wrong. But I like the app over others so I use this.

Love this app. I love this app! I'm a pretty big anime fan so I've always wanted to speak the language. I honestly think this app will help anyone with basic Japanese words. I give this all stars!

There kinda.. WRONG. So if you click goodnight it says “Oyasumi Nasai” but if you use google translate it’s “Oyasumi” so you probably need to update everything sorry:/

Excellent for English speaking tourists. This app has dozens of helpful words and phrases for travelers, written in kanji and the English alphabet, and pronounced both quickly and slowly. While one could get by with the free phrases—there are many of them—I highly recommend spending the $5 for the complete app, which unlocks quite a few more. It will probably be the most useful five dollars that you spend on your trip to Japan. Arigato!!

Solid!. Gives you the basics, enough to get along in Japan. I used it a ton when I was stationed there. I really like how you can choose the option to say it nice and slow. Gives you a chance to articulate the word.

This is the easiest way in my opinion. I just started using it. I can count to 10 so far which is really cool I'm not going to Japan but I just wanna know this stuff cause I watch her a lot of anime and I don't like it in English so I keep it Japanese and I put subtitles on but down load this app NOW it's also got more languages🙂😀 🇯🇵

New to the language. I am so stoked I came across this app! I have always wanted to learn how to speak Japanese. That’s mostly because I am a HUGE anime fan. Lol 😜

A anime lover. This game is great!👍👍 It helped me learn some basic Japanese words. I don't have any reason why I need to learn the Japanese language but I just really like Japanese things and I have always wished I could fluently speak the language. The only problems I had with this app was that not everything is free so I can't learn more words to build up my knowledge. I am a little confused about the word search part of the app. I would type a word (for example family) and nothing happens. I don't know if nothing happens because you have to purchase family related words or what. But other than those two little bugs in this app IT IS AWESOME 👏!!

Great just one thing. Amazing. This app is completely worth it. It's really good and it's free. Some of it does cost money, but for all of the lessons, it's only 5 dollars. With this, it just shows the English word, the Japanese word, how to write it. It even says it. It's not like most language learning apps that have those lessons and you have to match the Japanese words to the English words. Instead, you just find your word and it will show you how to say it. I personally love it, and it's completely worth it.

Really useful. I found the recordings of how to pronounce each everyday phrase to be really useful and easy to hear. I'll be using this app regularly in Tokyo next week!

Great. In the field, when you want to be a good customer/tourist and you can't quite remember that key phrase, this is perfect.

Alright. Okay I'm not going to lie I'm studying Japanese for my LOTE class this doesn't explain how you have to use formal and informal language to you elders or people who are higher in authority another thing is they tend to not use konichiwa over there as much as Ohio gozimous which means good morning another thing they need to explain is that there is actually 3 Japanese alphabets hiragana, katakana and kanji the two they use the most are hiragana which for traditional Japanese words and katakana because they use this to convert English language into Japanese and the fact that if you don't speak a word properly it can sound like a similar word

Was ok!. I wish I hadn’t updated this app. I’ve used it for some time now and it served well as a self-learning tool. I updated recently and now it’s full of ads and a worse layout imo. Is there a way I can go back to the previous format?

Japanese!. I'm going to Japan for a month and this has been so handy to learn the basics. I like that the voice sounds Japanese! I also appreciate that the phrases are said slowly, it makes it easier to understand. However it would be even better if they were then repeated at a faster rate, the normal rate Japanese talk. The best. After trying many Japanese language apps this one is so good, buying :) Hearing spoken Japanese makes learning easier. Too much Kanji without Hiragana is a problem for me. Wish there was an option to switch off Kanji and romanji and just have Hiragana and switch between them. A full Kanji grade one section would be great

Phone upgrade. Recently upgraded my iPhone 5s to XR. Had the app( upgraded version) on the old phone and wanted it on the new one, but can’t get that for my newer phone, simply doesn’t upgrade. Has been a waste of money after years of use on old phone.

Learn Japanese App review. User friendly and helpful app. Assists with basic communication & in particular, guides correct pronunciation. Used it extensively while holidaying in Japan.

It’s okay, definitely not the best.. The Romaji for some of the translations don’t match up with its proper pronunciation. I’ve seen several “Sho” characters written as “Syo” in Romaji, which is not correct. Whether or not these are typos I can’t say for sure. The interface is simple and easy to figure out how to use, so points for that. If you’re looking for an app that can teach you Japanese the right way, I would not recommend this one. There are a good handful of other free apps that are much more effective.

Great for travelers/beginners. A useful app for anyone wanting to travel to Japan who doesn't know the language and who needs some basic words & phrases. Need to fix up the romaji though as some words are misspelled.

Great app. I'm in Japan for the first time, just downloaded the app and already things are more fun, not to mention a little easier.

Really Helpful. Lovely app, very useful for travelling. Clean layout with no ads and topics that are important for travellers. Topics include: accomodation, eating, transport, general conversation, and emergencies. One of my favourite features is that it translates into words and characters, so you can read ingredients and menus and such. Admittedly, it doesn't really show the relations between words, but if you're in a hurry trying to get somewhere, it's okay.

Ok App. A decent app with a nice layout and selection.... If you wanted fork up some money. It contains quite a few helpful phrases yet not an understanding of how the words work together and having to pay money to get a few more phrases that you can't understand. rubbish. I bought the full package version last year. When the app required an update this year, it removed all the full package content I bought and I would be required to repurchase the full package content again. I want my money back for the full package that I bought last year which is now lost because of the update.

Very helpful and interesting. I was going on a holiday to Japan and I found this app very useful as you could like things and make a list you could refer to again of the words you wanted to know and I also found that it was very helpful that you could slow down the pronunciation so it sounds it out for you. All in all this was a great app

Incorrect translation. I’ve been studying Japanese for a while now and earlier I saw this app, I knew it wasn’t correct from the pictures but even some numbers are incorrect, I learned counting about 4 years ago and it’s the easiest thing now. Konichiwa translates to good afternoon, not hello. There are others I’m just pointing that out. I gave it a 3 start and not a one star because despite having incorrect words, the layout is very cool and well made, maybe you could over check looking for mistakes? Just an opinion because it’s not really bad enough to mess it all up, and is great for people visiting, but I plan on living there soon:)

Wow. I can't wrap my head around the fact that this app isn't very well-known. I'm slowly but surely starting to memorize Japanese words and phrases, and the little descriptions provided are absolutely lovely. Even without the full upgrade, it's still very helpful. Could not ask for a better Japanese app❤️

Wow... Just... Wow!!!. This is the best Japanese learning app right next to Human Japanese! Pimsleur learning programs are expensive, but I've used their technique and this phrase book together to learn the language so quickly! I can't believe how quick I saw improvements in my Japanese! The reason I only gave it 4 stars, though, was because its $5.00 for the full version... And that is way too expensive! :'( Make it $2.00 or something and not only will you make a 5 star on my list but a purchase of the full version from me! Arigatou gozaimasu!

Very Helpful. I downloaded this app because I was very interested in the Japanese culture and language. This app was far more helpful than I though it would be. The lessons are so detailed and helps me really understand how the language works. I honestly have no complaints for this app. It is fantastic!

Great app but.... I would give this app 4 stars because I like a lot of things about the app except for one thing is that it is not fair that you just have like about 6 of the topics open I think we downloaded this app so we can learn Japanese but you closed half of them so if you want 5 full stars you should really open the rest of the topics I'm sure not even only this app should have the rest of the things open if you want ratings you should really be more fair about the games and apps

Great for learning Japanese. I love this app, it is great for begginers because it is easy to understand and an option for slow pronnounciation. The only issue is that it can be slightly confusing to understand the menu.

Good for learning. This app has helped me learn another culture greatly. I practice everyday and I mostly just practice on the greetings and general conversations. I am going into seventh grade next year and we get to take two languages. I get to do one because I chose choir as well as other subjects. I've always been interested in the Japanese culture so I thought it would be a good idea to learn some of their language; if I go to Japan someday I will be able to understand and communicate with them. This app is great and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a new language.

All you need to know is where you are or are going and what you what to do( sightsee, eat, get a bus, plane or train, find a museum . . . ) and this gem of an app will do the rest in only a few clicks. Love It.

Excellent!. I am most pleased that I do not need internet to use this app, and I am excited to use it, but I also intend to combine with watching Anime in Japanese with subtitles and catching the words I recognize. That's me, but maybe that helps someone else! Thank you!

Awesome!!. I really like this app! It helps me brush up on my Japanese! I took two years of it in high school, but this year I couldn't take it b/c there is no Japanese3 course!! :( I also have friends who live in Tokyo, Japan who are bugging me to see them, but I at least want to be pretty confident in my Japanese, and this is helping!! This is a great app for learning useful, day to day expressions in Japanese.. If you will be spending any amount of time in Japan, your stay will be much better if you learn the language. I wish I would have had this app when I went. It makes things easy to read, and the pronunciations of each phrase are played clearly and slowly.

Great. I like this app a lot and it helps to learn basic Japanese on the go. I just upgraded, because I thought it would be worth it, but I don't know if it's really worth it--the app boasts that you get 800 more words or whatever, but it seems like 200+ of those "800" more words are just the names of cities, countries and landmarks. Which I guess is okay, but I don't think that should count towards "vocabulary." I feel like it is worth 2 or 3 bucks but not the $ 5 I paid to upgrade. Hope to see more in the future--though I'm upset about the upgrade, I still give this 5 stars.

Five thumbs ands stars!!. Needless to say, I was impressed with how well developed this app is. Amazingly learning how to speak in a brief conversation, It's definitely worth buying the full version. I have even taught myself how to write a couple of full sentences using this app and my keyboard by adding the japanese language in the keyboard settings!

Love this for beginners!. I am able to have a small conversation with a mother at my daughters school because of this app, and it makes her feel so welcome in her new town! The little girl is now great friends with my daughter bc we were the first to try to communicate in their language :)

Good. This is very fun way to learn Japanese. Since I just want to know how to say some essential stuffs like when I travel to Japan or when I speak w. Japanese folks. I like the heart function which you can choose what you'll use the most. Would of given it a 5 star if this free version had more words to learn. They want u to buy the paid version.

Awesome!. I love this app! It's excellent for learning from giving you the symbols (kanji) and giving the pronunciation. It's SO much better than Google Translate! Although, for the next update, would you give this app a Sports category. Other than that, it's one of the best apps on my phone!ありがとう ございます！（≧∇≦）

Great app!. Been using this app for a while now, really helps if you want to learn some Japanese. The upgrade isn't worth it but then again it isn't bad. It adds a few a lot more phrases and words, that's all.

Eh.. This is an okay app. Mostly because it has some useful common phrases and such, which are really helpful. But when it comes to the romaji version, it's very misleading to new speakers to replace a syllable like "cha" and turn it into "cya". It doesn't make much sense either. Please fix the romaji. It confused me at first and I've been studying for a good 4+ years. Lord knows how it's misguided new speakers. Plus, learning hiragana, the characters don't match up.

Great App. Really helpful! Most of this stuff I have picked up watching anime and listening to Japanese music, but having the words in front of me with the pronunciation provided as well.. It makes for a pretty decent learning experience. Definitely recommend this if you are wanting to brush up on conversational Japanese!~

Astounishing. I'm half Japanese but raised with the Hispanic and Hawaiian culture and language but once I moved to Japan I didn't know as much Japanese so I was really eerily, so I went to the App Store and purchased this and studied it for 2 hours a day for 1 week and I was able to fit in more.

one of the best :). my boyfriend is into Japanese, and has encouraged me to also, I downloaded this app along with a few others to help me out a bit. while I downloaded 6 to begin with, three have remained, including this one. I love how it says the words back to me, and how it doesn't require Internet like some :D download and have no regrets

Super helpful. I went to Tokyo in April, and this app was very helpful, I used it a lot when I needed directions or in sushi restaurants. People are more helpful when they see that you are trying to speak their language. Because not many Japanese speak English.

Indispensable application!. This app has been extremely useful during my wife and my stay in Japan. We used it every day to great effect. The only thin that would make it better would be some basics on sentence syntax. That said, as it is, this app is outstanding.

Best Japanese Language App!!. This is one of the best if not THE best Japanese language apps, it has a very large amount of words, easy to use and really helpful..I bought the full version and it was worth it, specially if you were traveling to Japan, I just hope that with the next update they'll be adding more categories and more words..keep it up guys! Good for mimicing!. The only thing i would like to see here is maybe a hyperlink to key words that explain its usage. It might be easier to remember. For example, watashi wa is used to say that i am something. I dont even know if i am right. Just what ive concluded from reviewing this. Anyway, something to consider.

Great app. Within a week I've memorized the entire first category. I check my pronunciation with the google translate app. Between the two, I've learned a lot very quickly. I wish I had this years ago.

Best translation app yet!!. Great for learning basic japanese, just wish more word translations could be added. The app is so use friendly, & i looove how no wifi is needed in order to use the app!! Translated words r spoken, written (in english & in japanese!) & can even be spoken at a slower pace. Translated words r organized & easy to find.

Fantastic little app. In my opinion this the best, most simple, and useful translation app available. It's exactly just the right amounts of what you need with both translation and pronunciation. It's a no-brainier download if you're traveling in the area. Thanks!

Good app but minor issues keep it from being great. This app has a wide range of useful phrases. Some of the romaji have typos, however, and a few phrases didn't sound as though they were slowed down when clicking the turtle icon. There are also a lot of punctuation issues within the text of the "..." section. Looking forward to future updates to correct those issues, as well as new phrases.

Good App. This app is great for a short trip to Japan. You're not going to become a native conversationalist with it, but the quick use categories will help you get through the basic exchanges of everyday life. At the restaurant and need to ask for more water? Go to the dining out section and scroll down. Oh! And there's the way to say excuse me! Quick and easy. One improvement would be if there was an auto play function to allow you to learn words on the go rather than having to keep selecting each word.

Absolutely Wonderful. I love this app! It gives you audio, an option to slow down the pace so you better understand, and you can favorite words. The only thing that upsets me is that you have to upgrade to get the full version but I understand. Amazing app!

Must get. 5 stars no doubt. I used to use anime to help me learn, but I didn't remember them (plus different translations) Then I tried "Japanese words of the day". They were hard to remember and I forgot them within 4 minutes. Now, using this, I remember the easy phrases in a snap. I've already learned 6 phrases in 3 days! If its hard to remember things, this is how to go about learning japanese

It worked before but now it won't. It was a great app before it stopped working, it teaches you lots of phrases that you could use in real Japanese life. But then it stopped working, when I get into it it is just a blue screen then goes back to my home page. Please fix. :(

Easy to Understand. To be honest I was really questioning if this app was worth the extra $5. In the long run I believe it will. I'll be traveling to Japan in the summer & I believe this app will really help with talking with the local's with no doubt on my min.
