Clickbait notifications. App works well enough, but the Notifications are awful and pretty much just clickbait. “Schools are closed for two more weeks in one state in our region”. Really? They won’t just put “Kentucky” or “Ohio” instead? Another indication that the goal is to get you where you can see the ads, not to actually inform. One user in our region is deleting this app right now.

Okay when it works …. … but the majority of the time? I’m waiting for things to load. Any notification I get that is worth clicking on, I never get the page to show anything. It just sits with the WSAZ banner up top and that’s it. Nothing else, and I’ve let the page sit for 10mins and it still never load. It’s SO slow when you are using wifi only, but for some reason, it will load fast when in service. Considering how a large portion of viewers for WSAZ are in rural areas without cell coverage, we’re relying on wifi to use the mobile app … but what is the point when the app doesn’t even bother loading? Even loading the website on a phone’s browser is incredibly slow. I’ve seen dial-up load pages faster than whatever this company is using to host their site and app. This has been a major issue with the app for about a year now, and only recently, it has gotten increasingly worse with trying to get it to load. Users shouldn’t have to be in cell service just to access the features of the app properly when wifi is perfectly viable. Also, do better with ads. The predatory nature of the types of ads associated with WSAZ’s app is honestly shameful.

Click bait notifications. Notifications just barely tell you enough that you have to go into the site to find out anything. You would think that really important information like a health issues, COVID virus content, interstate closed , escaped murderer, etc, would have relevant information.... but no. It’s just a opportunity for WSAZ to sell ads. I am turning off all notifications. They are totally useless

Notices no longer say WHERE news is happening. I’m turning off all notices from this app. Every notice now says that the news is happening “at some region in your area” requiring you to open the app to see exactly where it is. Notices used to specifically tell you where the news was happening. Most of the time that region is no where near me and I’m not interested. This is something new they are doing no doubt to get more ad time by making you open the app and hit you with an ad before taking you to the actual news page. It’s annoying, and I am going to find a new news provider.

Freeze. Freezes frequently. At times, I have to close the app out and try again. Frustrating at times. Why do you keep old news on the app? Things that happened a day or more ago. WCHS app is much better with coverage and updating. Terrible that WSAZ won’t do the same.

Weekend news. Weekend news at WSAZ is sad it’s not updated until Monday morning and by then they are more focused on what’s going on Monday with a very small amount of new that happened over the weekend. In Madison Middle School football ball player news should have been reported although the details should not be released but it’s not only this store I’ve noticed this lack of reporting on the weekends for a long time. But WSAZ seems to like stores that they can take credit for roasting politicians which is news but something they can get credit for.

Proofread people. App has a tendency to crash. Whoever looks over the spelling in these news stories misses a lot of mistakes. “Desolation will begins today”. Really? I find mistakes like this a lot. Journalism deals with words and making things clear for the public. Vocabulary should be included.

Updates. My complaint is you don’t update the story enough, especially wrecks that have the road shut down. Even if there no change just tell them that. It has happened more then once

Terrible. As someone who runs a business site, I cannot believe how many misspelled words are on this site! Especially in the headlines! The site is also not properly maintained, and does not keep up with the news in the area. I don’t know if it is just laziness or plain censorship. However, when you can get more news off of Facebook postings in your area, than off if the the actual local news APP there is a real issue!

Search bar fairly useless. Very hard to search for anything using the search bar- not for lead news stories but “human interest” and “fluff” - but interesting - items. Can’t find those on the app at all...too bad as those are often the kind of things I would Ike to share.

App’s altimeter unwinding. WSAZ News and the app’s developer have put this app into a tailspin. I used to check SAZ’s news several times throughout the day, but due to the recently added pop-up ads at the bottom of the screen it’s become impossible to even view a story without the app freezing. And yeah I know this app is free but on the other hand WOWK’s app is free as well and it doesn’t have any issues - hint, hint. Congratulations to your competitor on designing an app with less issues.

Coverage. I enjoy your news but you do not give much coverage in Ohio. You give more attention to Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia Than Southern Ohio. In any category. Example: Saturday, March 15, 2025, Portsmouth High School Girls Basketball Team Won their First EVER State Title and your web site has nothing on it. And your TV Broadcast, which did not air due to network broadcast of a golf tournament, left it until the 11:00pm then it will be forgotten. But you will be sure to broadcast the WVHSS Girls Tournament results. Remember, you are a TRI-State News Service and you are forgetting at least one-third of your audience and up to two-thirds, if you count other parts of Kentucky not in the Coal Fields. Southern Ohio is a forgotten area, beautiful with a lot of history, but forgotten. There is News happening here but nobody knows about it because it is never reported. Unless it is majorly political or catastrophic. I have watched you news broadcast for years, and over the years I have noticed this habit occur all too often. Please think about it, and try to change what is perceived. Thank you.

PLEASE UPDATE THIS APP OMG. Anytime I receive a notification from WSAZ and click on it, I’m stuck looking at the loading screen for a good 2-3 minutes before I give up. I am not the only one with this issue. The app is so laggy and buggy. I can only hope that someone realizes how behind on updates this app is and fixes it soon.

Terrible Business. I deleted the app and will not watch the news they produce now that they have fired an employee for not being vaccinated. I am vaccinated, I can get Covid, I can spread COVID. The vaccine protects ME from extreme symptoms. If I ha e no symptoms can still spread the virus. WSAZ management must be ignorant, and I prefer to get my news from unbiased stations.

#cluesNOTnews. Before this year I would have given this APP a good review. However, recently WSAZ has quit sending out notifications about the news. Instead, they send multiple frivolous “bait-type clues” (such as “One county in our viewing area...”) about the new. This is rediculous! WSAZ is more concerned with increasing web traffic than they are about getting NEWS to its viewers in a timely manner. Please stop the #cluesNOTnews notifications.

Commercials. I love watching the live newsfeed on this app especially in the morning while getting ready for work and I love wsaz , but the repeated commercials for Prim low office in is rediculous . This morning it played 5 x’s or more just repeating !! Then took another break And played 2x’s during that break. But other than that we love WSAZ and everyone that makes it happen!!

Stories. The stories are fine, it’s just they are being shown over top of the ads and you can’t read what’s written.

Version 5.1.6 is crap because of the widget. The today weather widget isn’t going to the weather tab of the WSAZ news app, all it’s doing is taking to the home tab which I don’t want to be. So your making us click/tap on the weather tab on the home screen of the app when we should of been there version 5.1.6 didn’t fix that problem to the wsaz weather widget

👍. Great app helps out a lot when on the go keeps me updated on all new and weather.

Fake news. The newest version of the app, did nothing but included poorly disguised advertisements as news stories. Older people, could easily mistake these fake stories for news, as if phone scams and credit card scams aren’t bad enough, now one must show the same caution with a previously trusted news outlet.

App not opening. For about 2-3 weeks the app will not open. I get notifications, but app will not open from the notifications or when I open the app. I tried deleting and reinstalling and it did not help. Before this issue, I have never had a problem. Please fix.

What happened. This used to be my favorite WV news app not now. What happened you cant even access it without your location on, which I never leave on. I’ve deleted it because there’s no point in having it if it isn’t accessible. Sadly here I come wchs app or woky.

Notification issues. I'll receive a notification and when I click it, the story isn't available. I don't know how long it takes for the story to actually show up, but it's longer than ten minutes. I'm using a 7 Plus running the most recent version of iOS and my app is up to date.

Fixes made it worse, not better. The app crashes. A lot. It freezes. A lot. I get notifications of a news story that’s not on the app yet. A lot. You need better editors. There are way too many errors for such a reliable news source. I’m giving it only 2 stars due to all the freezing and crashes.

Terrible. If you love commercials, having your news shut off in the middle of the story (live stream), political ads from some other place in the country and continual political ads then this is an app you will love!!!! My 5 year old grandson could make a better app with playdough. This is a 100% mess!! The designer needs a job a Wendy’s flipping burgers but hey they’ll always be burnt! Save yourself space on your phone and don’t bother.

Not user friendly. Looked forever to vote on things and cannot find them. Changing the name of Laidly is a great idea and the people who live where Stonewall Jackson Middle School should be the people that choose and vote on the new name not the entire Tri-State. I hate trying to find anything on this app.

Love the WSAZ app!. Love the WSAZ app. Love the notifications of important news. Wondering why the weather app went away??? It was the best weather app out there?!?!?

Locks up half the time and stories not available. People want their news but this app just brings frustration. This used to be a good app. I’m going to be using a different news source however, because it’s too frustrating having this one freeze up daily, and when I get a notification of a new story, and try to go read it, it’s not even available. Poor quality and service shows.

Revert. The app was much better than it is now. Breaking news is vague (intentional I’m sure) which requires you to open app and find the article. The articles have been replace with videos that require watching an ad etc and make it inconvenient if you are trying to read the news. Not ideal while at work or in a quiet setting.

Many glitches. This used to be a decent app until the latest update. Screen locks up or spins and never loads. Today I deleted and reinstalled app and now I get a message about setup on the next page but it won’t let you move to next page. Please FIX IT!!

Updated. The website needs to be kept up to date. It’s 4 days after the 4th of July. We don’t need to read when & where the fireworks are going to be. Also the older news stories need to be placed after the newest stories. The ad regarding following WSAZ on Facebook is annoying. It appears to be more important than the actual news.

Needs fixed. It was great when it worked, it opened up and loaded quickly but now it won’t open, it’ll crash. I’ve uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it is still crashing immediately. Please fix it.

Notifications. I signed up for breaking news, now I get reminders every few hours to watch their broadcast. Many more notifications than necessary, there is always a commercial to watch prior to what ever old news story. Most of their notifications are just a nuisance.

Despise Notifications. The App is okay when I open it, but I just turned off Notifications because they are always teasers to get me to open app. I understand more clicks mean more advertising money for the station, but I hate going to the app to find out the details when they say something like “teacher arrested in our area”, or “local road closed due to accident”. The other news apps post enough information to know if the news effects me, so I don’t waste time finding out the wreck or the teacher were in another state, and don’t really interest me at all. So, with Notifications turned off, I probably won’t be opening this app much anymore.

I expect more from a trusted news agency. My major issue with this app - aside from the fact that it performs poorly and loads slow, is that they allow manipulative advertisers. You know the ones... the popups that appear and say you have an infected device...Bla Bla Bla. Click here to fix. Pure crap to prey on people who don't know any better than to avoid such click bait. A news agency should have higher standards than a third rate advertising partner like this. Pure crap... don't download, just use their site if you have to... you're better off.

Disappointment. Its not clear news. “Someone in our region...” the frequent tag line used as bait to get you to click on the story (that isnt even there) is misleading and frustratingly redundant. Once i click on news its often ill related, not complete or biased. When you decide to report “the news” and let ppl decide for themselves the opinion they have i may be back. Until then-bye.

App review. I don’t come here to wait through 2 and 3 commercials before getting to look at current news. This is ridiculous. I understand the concept of sponsorship. Anything more than one 15 second ad is too much. I’ll probably deleted the app over it and find my news elsewhere.

Clickbait notifications. Notifications are always teasers to get you to open the app. Other news apps at least give you enough information to see whether or not the news pertains to you.

Like keeping up with the news. The only issue I have is the app itself crashes a lot! Otherwise it's great to be able to keep up with local news!

Worst click bait. Frequently there is no story posted to the app to go with the notification that I just received. Also the notifications are borderline click bait. Why have you gone to omitting the names and locations from the notification? I shouldn’t have to go all the way to the app to see if the notification is even relevant for me. Terrible reporting. Just a way to increase traffic to the app to force add review by increasing views. Shame on you.

Updates I trust. I always get the updates I need weather, school, news its always keeping me up to date on what's going on!

Too many notifications. Entirely too many notifications, even when set to receive only breaking news and severe weather.

It’s okay. I don’t notice any intrusive ads anymore - my only complaint is that 90% of the time when I click on a new notification, the story hasn’t been released on the app yet. For example: a notification “2 break ins in one day in Huntington WV” will pop up on my phone up to 20 minutes before the content is on the app, and I’ll get a message saying “there is no associated story blah blah blah” Please fix this. I shouldn’t have to wait just to read a story. Either make the content appear sooner or don’t give people a notification until it’s ACTUALLY on the site/app.

Horrible updates. Used to have a problem with just commercials, where it would delay going to the live broadcast… now the volume doesnt work… 1/2 the time the “unmute” doesnt show up… and 1/2 the time when it does, even after you click to unmute the volume still doesnt work… guess I’ll just watch WCHS on their app

Could be a lot better!. The notification are always earlier than the app will show, unlike the weather app which is always way late on the notifications. Always the same news for a couple days in a row. And more news for out of state than local!

Traffic. Traffic app doesn’t work

Lackluster. Articles there one minute then gone the next. You should be able to find a story same day it was published but no. The search option doesn’t even find them. The local and regional have barely any articles. But the main page can have two articles just ones the update. Not to mention misspellings and incorrect grammar. I used to love this app but they need rid of all the extra menu items that aren’t needed and focus on keeping the news on the news app. 🙄. WSAZ has gone downhill since Jessica Ralston anyhow.

Love it!. I love the WSAZ app! When I’m not where I can watch channel 3 news, I can always count on the app to keep me up to date! It’s also my number 1 go to app for weather! Thanks for this incredible tool!

Can’t get to the app. Used to love this app, but now when I downloaded it there is a notification to allow tracking on the next screen and it won’t let me do anything at all. I can’t even get to the next screen.

Notifications. I feel like it sends to much notifications but that’s probably a good thing. It keeps you updated.

Freezes. Updated the app and now it freezes. Not too pleased. I’m notified of important things but cannot read about them on updated version. Please fix ASAP.

Review. I am appalled at the number of typos and grammatical errors that appear in WSAZ news articles online. I know that they're busy, but these errors make them look unprofessional and unpolished. They must have editors. Use them!!!

WV High School Soccer. WHY is it that WSAZ does not even mention the State high school soccer tournament this weekend. Both the girls and boys high school teams from Cabell Midland made it to the state soccer tournament in Beckley this weekend and there is not one word about it. Only football and volleyball. Is soccer not a sport around here. Shame on WSAZ

App keeps crashing. Every since the new update I can’t open the app every time I click on it, the app closes. I don’t even get notifications anymore. Hopefully it gets fixed soon

New Alert. Please go back to the old alert sound. I do not like the station tune as an alert. To us, it is very annoying.

Poor. For months now the app will not open up, sits and spins with the app screen, or will close as soon as the app is opened up. Very disappointed with this app and it’s developer!

Freezes constantly. This App has become unusable on my iPhone X. Freezes constantly in the middle of articles. Have to hard close the app and restart to get it work - needs updated or deleted.

Good for…. school closings and weather. News reading is corny but delivers some info. On scene reporting is awful. They won’t hesitate put a camera in a victim’s face while they’re crying, heartbroken.

Won't livestream. Will not livestream, my internet connection is great, I can watch 3 iTV's at the same time, it's just a lousy app. If it ever does work, it constantly freezes up especially during commercial breaks, it's a great concept, but it's a shame that WSAZ won't invest the time or money to make it work

Crashes frequently. Good app when it works but v5.2.1 under iOS 12.0 on an iPad is crashing at random intervals. Can read one or two stories then app drops completely.

Terrible. On top of the poor grammar, pop up ads, stories that aren’t there when the notification says they are, NOW I have to watch an ad video before reading an article?????? No thanks, I’m done

App stinks. First the ads are terrible and you can’t skip them and when watching the videos the words on the screen flash and causes me to get a headache. Will not ever use again or recommend this app.

Yuck. Thankfully they FULLY tested the notification that asks you to reconsider allowing them to track you after you’ve already said no. It now generally pops up every time you load the app. Good job!

Constantly crashes. This app would be great if it didnt constantly freeze and crash every time you opened it.

Too noisy. I need a local news app for Huntington, WV but this one makes the NBC noise all the time. Can’t put the app on mute. When my phone volume is on 0 while in a meeting this app keeps sounding off. Been using the app for years but now have to delete it or risk looking unprofessional. Please fix the noise.

WSAZ aka CNN. Fear mongering alerts every hour. Not worth having when you can see all these “alerts” all over social media whenever you want. Never uplifting about the community and pushes liberal agenda

Can’t watch videos. It says I don’t have permission to watch videos can you help

App hasn’t worked for a few weeks. I can see headlines but the stories won’t load. I count on this for news throughout the day and I really miss it.

Unfair employment. You have lost a follower in me and my family over the termination of Amanda Barren. WSAZ should not mandate a Vax for employment. I hope your ratings drop so far that you will be made to go off air. Karma is coming.

Can’t load stories. I cannot load any of Links. Every time I click on a link, nothing happens.

Terrible. This has to be the worst app for news. Wouldn’t expect anything less in WV though. Stupid layout makes it hard to navigate. Ads galore. Dumb. I give it a 0-.

Unbelievable.. 5 or so minutes ago, they sent a bulletin... something to the effect that Scioto County authorities had released the name of the 18 month old killed in a crash earlier in the day. That was the bulletin. I touch it for details, and it tells me there is no story connected to the bulletin. But wait. If the story is the fact that the 18 month old victim’s name had been released ... why isn’t at least the name posted on the app? Absolutely moronic millennials. To paraphrase the Seinfeld’s soup nazi... “No stars for you, WSAZ! No stars for you!!”

Kentucky News. What about Kentucky news? For two days now I’ve clicked on Kentucky news and all I have gotten is error 404. One was the Governors update he gives everyday on COV-ID 19. I consider that very important.

Don’t waste your time. App is trash. Always glitchy and never accurate.

Ad ridden. This app is littered with so many advertisements that the end users can’t determine what is news and what is ad. Worthless. Such a shame. This app was once great and trustworthy.

Glitch?. App works after initial install but if location services are off it won’t open again without deleting and reinstalling.

This only has one star to get to the people complaining. To all the people that can’t open the app just delete it and reinstall it that worked for me

Bad app. The app freezes up constantly and whe I click on a story it just clicks off to my home screen

Obnoxiously glitchy. When I click on any live alerts/notifications the app glitches and I’m back at my phones home page... that’s not the only ones that does this.... this app needs a lot of bug fixes!!!

Local news not reported. I see events happening in South Point Ohio and here in Ashland Kentucky and nothing gets reported on WSAZ. You people report on West Virginia news only and don’t report on news in southern Ohio and Ashland Kentucky/ Boyd County

Just Deleted. Must have hired somebody new to run this thing, used to be informative now it is garage. Same thing can’t be breaking news 5 times a day!

App is terrible since the latest update.. The app is unusable since the latest update, it kicks you out of the app when you select an article. This needs fixed.

I use to enjoy this app. You should rename your station from WSAZ to WCOVID since that’s all you report on anymore. Thankfully other news stations in the tri-state area doesn’t do this and we can actually see something other than Covid 19.

WAAAAAAY TOO MANY NOTIFICATIONS. 15-20 notifications a day...and most of them are meaningless and not important. If you want to get a breaking news notification about someone spraining their ankle in Greenup Co. KY while petting a family pet, then this is the app for you!

App closes. This app closes whenever I am reading a news story. I sometimes have to reopen the 3 times to finish reading the story.

Not as good as it was. They started to mix a bunch of click bait stuff in the real news. Making this app feel generic like TMZ or something. I would just getting your news elsewhere.
