Encarda App Description & Overview

What is encarda app? The Encyclopedia of Arda is an indispensible reference guide to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, based on the popular Website of the same name. The Encyclopedia contains around 4,000 individual entries, many with additional features such as maps, family trees and images.

Also included in the Encyclopedia are a selection of articles and reference guides, including a detailed lexicon and a guide to old and rare words used in Tolkien's works. The interactive Chronicle and Calendar let you explore the history of Middle-earth from its earliest times, and the Encyclopedia even contains detailed guides to the recent film versions of The Lord of the Rings.

FEATURES:

- Search the Encyclopedia, choose from an A-Z index, or browse articles by topic. Each entry is rich in hypertext links, letting you freely explore the world of Middle-earth and beyond.

- Many entries provide their own factbox and timeline, along with maps, genealogical charts, and images.

- The interactive Chronicle of Arda lets you explore any period from Middle-earth's history. The Interactive Calendar lets you choose dates in any of seven different calendars and see which events took place on those dates.

- Language guides include a dictionary of old and rare words used by Tolkien, and also a lexicon explaining the origins of many names of characters and places in Elvish and other languages.

- The 'Excyclopedia' feature is an additional guide to less canonical topics, exploring concepts from Tolkien's earlier work, and related topics from other sources.

- This is a standalone app that works completely independently of the Encyclopedia of Arda Website; no Internet connection is required.

A tool for every reader of Tolkien. Placing locations mentioned in the Silmarillion is difficult. This app allows me understand where what is happening. I love the list of words Tolkien used. The interface looks great; especially helpful are the little images to tag each object, a nice wizard image indicates something that has to do with wizards.

Excellent Encyclopedia. I've been using the Encyclopedia of Arda's website and downloadable program for years. As soon as I found out about the app I rushed to download it. I haven't been disappointed. It features all the information from the website in a form easily navigated and referenced on the go. If you enjoy researching the worlds of JRR Tolkien don't be without this handy app.

Simply indispensable. Easy to use and thorough as possible. The only reason I give it four instead of five stars is a lack of citations. Not a complete lack, just occasional. Where to read a full account of the Battle of Azanulbizar is one such lacking. But overall this is an impressive tool and one I am deeply thankful for. If you are a fan of Middle-Earth, get this already!

Best reference app on iPhone store. I adore this encyclopedia. No gimmicks, no "pay more to see more" crap like there is on others. Easy to navigate, great reference material, fairly complete. There are issues, however. It has loads of incomplete entries "due updates," but it never seems to update. One other wish would be source citations. The synopses are neat, but I'd like to be able to quickly find which book or history it cites for the information.

Great. I love this App. It’s one of very few that I pay for. Well done layout and extensive in it’s information. Having the maps pop up is awesome. I am in the middle of rereading the Silmarillion and this app is open during.

Crashes after update. Latest up (June 2021) should be avoided. I updated and when I open the app and to select a letter to get list of items or select recent entries it crashes and closes the app down. I tried removing app and reinstalling but no help. Helpfully a fix coming soon. UPDATED - I uninstalled app, reinstalled and it did a massive update. After that I worked great! My iPad version updated with no problem.

A Must for Any Middle Earth Resident. I first read The Hobbit at age 12, and Lord of the Rings a year later. I was enthralled with Tolkien's writing, his vision and attention to detail. But his words and ideas were beyond my limited vocabulary, then. Even today, forty years later, I still find myself occasionally stumped by words like "paveyard", or puzzled by the unanswered questions such as "Where did Tom Bombadil come from?" The Encyclopedia of Arda was a great blessing for it answered such questions, and the app of Arda lets me find my answers at the touch of my phone. It is fast, well-designed, and even comes with an optional map to show locations! The design is tasteful without being showy, and the language therein lends meaning to the aforementioned unanswered questions, complete with footnotes! I am now reading Lord of the Rings again, and using the Arda app at every turn. Right now I am learning just who Queen Beruthiel was, and just why Aragorn mentioned her in the mines of Moria!

Fantastic for Fans. This is an amazing app for fans of all that is Tolkien. A comprehensive database of information. Easy to search and easy to just peruse for random information. Excellent electronic encyclopedia. Instead of having to search through the multiple tales and lost tales you can use this app to uncover all sorts of interesting information. As a Tolkien nerd I'm so glad I bought this.

Wow, just what I needed!. It’s a daunting task, much like Frodo and Sam’s, tackling the vast world of Arda. From the complication of times and names and places, it’s very easy to get lost. If only there was an easy to use app that was worthy of the name of Tolkien. Well, Encarda is it. Quick and efficient with maps aplenty, it is a wonderful app to keep one up to date to fully enjoy the width of Tolkien’s vision. Now note: the app is 5 bucks but has a 2 dollar fee to get updates. It is worth it!

Would be 5 stars, but UI is clunky and slow. I think at this point in the apps development, it’s makers need to focus more on the UI. Simply put, it’s 2022 and this app operates like an app from 2012. I hope this review can be the nudge out of the hobbit-door the devs needed to get to work on an overhaul of the UI making way for a smoother user experience. Especially if users are being charged a $1.99 annual fee for “live updates”. I understand the information is being updated and I’m thankful for that, but I don’t think the UI should be overlooked.

Great app. Wonderful resource!

A Must Have. Any time that I’ve entered Arda, I have this encyclopedia at the ready. The wealth of information contained here is invaluable.

No longer compatible. I find this app indispensable when it comes to finding information about Tolkien's works. It is organized, comprehensive, user friendly, and does not require an Internet connection. My only disappointment is that the recent and much lauded update is not compatible with my old iPhone. I would award the Encyclopedia of Arda with five stars if only I could use the new update.

Wonderful Application. Very influential in understanding Tolkien’s creation.

Crashes all the time. The app won’t open after latest update. Very frustrating. Even with all other apps closed, it doesn’t open!🤦🏾‍♂️

Your Middle Earth Guidebook & Encylopedia. Useful and in-depth resource to understanding Professor Tolkien's works. Any questions you have about characters, place-names, geography, family trees, and bits of lore and history are covered in this easy-to-use app. The entries are hyperlinked so that all important proper names are defined. Excellent both in content and design.

Perfect little accompaniment.... Every reader should support this project. It is well organized and easy to use. Those who are new to the stories will find this very useful in keeping track of things. The only problem with this project is that I end up spending lots of time wandering around in it! Thanks to those who put it all together and continue to update the articles.

Terrible. It is literally the website in app form. Not worth $5

Keeps crashing. Probably needs an update

Basic. Very basic app for the price. Hasn’t been updated in ages. Also I’d like to point out it’s not dual compatible with iPads. Even the game of thrones ice and fire app is compatible with both devices for one purchase and it’s a FAR more robust app. Don’t nickel and dime customers when you aren’t even developing the content.

Awesome app. The Silmarillion put me off reading Tolkien for years but this app was a handy reference that opened up JRRT’s amazing world to me.

Excellent app. I have nothing but praise for this app. I have used the encyclopedia online (internet) for many years, and this app is a faithful recreation. Actually, I think the app may be better because of the graphics and expanded search functions. The navigation is good and the hyperlinks - without the all-too-common underlining - are easy to see. It is worth the price and the memory.

Wow. This app is phenomenal. I’m suprised at the amount of detail they were able to find for some characters. Must have

Excellent quick reference!. I’ve been “studying” LOTR for many years using numerous references materials. This app has been a welcome addition! I like that the developers have been very thorough in explaining there sources and are open to discussions about their work. I have just begun using it and already I appreciate the dedicated work done here. I raise a tankard of ale from “ The Green Dragon” to them all!

Handy.. This app is a really helpful companion to any of the middle earth books. It has full write ups, family trees, history on just about everything, and maps as well. There are CG images of certain landmarks that appear to have been done in the very early 90's. They're cheesy, but great in a weird nostalgic way, it makes me feel like it's from the first tomb raider game or something.

Informative but not perfect. Finally decided to pull the trigger and buy the app plus the 1.99 subscription for updates. I love the in depth information that this encyclopedia has, but I'm disappointed in the format. Certain entries I can not click because they are too close to the bottom of the screen. This wouldn't be an issue if there wasn't a tab at the bottom of the screen that brings you to your account info. In other words, if the article you want to read is on the bottom of the screen, you're out of luck and will need to find a roundabout way to reach the desired article. Overall I love the aesthetic of the app and the extensive info, but hopefully these minor gripes will be fixed within time.

Essential. The original wiki of Middle-earth and no internet connection needed. So great that this is an app. The only thing that's missing is the ability to have multiple "tabs" open. The speed you get from it being an app though can't be beat. If you love the world of Middle-earth get it.

Indispensable reference to Tolkien’s universe. I’ve been referencing the web version for years, but the mobile app is thoughtfully designed and facilitates quick look-ups. If you are a serious Tolkien devotee, this app is a no-brainier.

Update created problems. Recently this app updated. My subscription was good until July of 2020. After the update, it prompted me to renew and showed that my subscription has been expired since July 2019. So my subscription renewal didn’t follow through and now maps are not loading. Why is there no way to contact someone if you are experiencing problems ? Perplexed !

Awesome but needs a little more in order to acquire the perfection!. I am in love with this app. It has so much information and is a must for all the Tolkien geeks out there. You can find almost everything from Lord of the Rings to the Silmarillion in this app. All that information is brought to tip of your fingers. However, I believe that if you add features such as map (that you can zoom on and pinpoint anywhere on map which will show information and history about that place) also some artworks to each character according to the descriptions of the book, would make this app more than awesome. I know the fact that it will take more storage in your device but who cares? For an app like this, the space it takes on your device is nothing.

For Beginners and Seasoned Tolkien Fans. Whether you are new to Middle-earth or you've travelled there and back many times, this is an amazing resource. There's seemingly no end to the information. Want to learn about dwarvish lineages? Want to dive into the world of philology? Having trouble following the geography of the Fellowship? This app is your guide. Great interface, never cluttered, and it will take you quite in-depth. Keep this open when reading the works of Tolkien. (Additionally, I kept this app open while reading for a graduate Tolkien course and it was invaluable in the reading and writing process.)

Certainly worth the buy. Lord of the Rings is the most difficult fantasy world to comprehend by far. This encyclopedia can answer almost all of your questions and certainly all the questions where answers are available in any of Tolkien's writings, short stories or letters. This app is necessary for any Tolkien fan on the go who doesn't want to look everything up on a laptop from a variety of sources. Excellent buy.

Perfect for hardcore Tolkien geeks. If you have any interest in your edification of Middle-Earth content I highly recommend this app. Further it may be helpful to have this app handy while reading the books.

Epicness simplified. I got this app a year or so ago and have been immensely satisfied with it. I can honestly say I have not read much of tolkiens work besides Lotr and the hobbit. You cannot complain about a lack of information cause you this thing has it all. For example the question of balrogs this app goes so in depth that a discussion concerning whether they have wings or not goes for several paragraphs and not once was I bored it was intriguing. A must have for any Tolkien lover or a person who had only seen the movies by Peter Jackson .

Update Needed. The app has not been optimized for iPhones without a home button. I know the developer says the app will be discontinued soon so I doubt it will get an update for this. It’s an app with great information and makes reading the books less daunting as I have a way to reference maps and create a good mental image of where the characters are at.

Update broke app. The most recent update 29-JUN-21 broke the application such that it is no longer usable. Disappointed as this is one of my favorite apps to browse in my spare time. Will update rating once fixed. **UPDATED** Quick turnaround fix. Back to functional.

The Ultimate Must-have Tolkien Resource. I have enjoyed frequent use of The Encyclopedia of Arda for several years, always finding exactly the information I need, and was extremely happy to see that they had compiled this lovely utility onto an application for iDevices. Truly an astoundingly helpful tool, wether you are merely a curious reader/movie-goer, or an avid Tolkien reader like myself, this is a must-have resource. You will not be disappointed!

Incredible resource, bad maps. This is an incredible resource for Tolkien fans. The only thing that keeps me from giving this great app 5 stars is that the maps have horrible resolution and are usually so limited in scope that it is difficult to get a good understanding of how that particular location fits into the larger world.

Useful and Entertaining. I've been using this while reading the Silmarillion and it has proven to not only help me keep track of who's who and what's what, but it has also led me down intriguing paths. I could probably just spend hours reading all of the research on this app. It's obvious the creators took this seriously and this fine product is the result.

The perfect companion. As someone that really wants to learn and know Tolkien’s Legendarium, this app is perfect I was a little put off that I had to pay for the app and also pay for updates. I’m glad I did, though. I appreciate the, pretty much, daily updates. My only recommendation. Offer an interactive map. I like the simplicity of the map areas that are shown when you search an area. A full (zoomable) map of Middle-Earth in the same format would be awesome.

Disappointed and out $2.99. I downloaded this app from itunes. Although the icon came up and looks cool on my iphone, I get nothing but a blank screen when the app. is activated. The tech service from Virtix was very accommodating with his time and effort in trying to help me resolve this issue, but wasn't able to fix the problem. I do have the Encyclopedia of Arda program on my laptop, and was very excited about getting this app. Can't endorse something I haven't been able to use. Since I wrote this note, Virtix has continued to contact me with suggestions of how to resolve my not being able to activate this app on my 1.3 iphone. I must say, eventhough I cannot endorse this product (because I cannot activate this program on my phone), I am compelled to laud the service of Virtix, and their sincere desire for my satisfaction. Thank you Virtix for your excellent service to my needs.

Absolutely Fantastic!. This app is everything you could want in an app made for the works of Tolkien. It gives you all the information you want to know and then some. Whether you want to know something specific or just wander and discover new things, this app is perfect and undoubtedly worth the money.

Everything I needed and more. This has everything I knew and more in incredible detail with dates, references, illustrations, and maps. The "random" key is a blast to help take you off the beaten path and discover something new. Thoughts should definitely be taking place to make a similar app for "Game of Thrones", as only the creators of this app would be able to do it justice

Great App. Excellent. Must have if you are a real Tolkien fan.

Great companion. Maps should be much better.

Super Tolkein reference. Watching the Ring of Power? Download now

You Don't Get Update App. $5 was expensive for an app like this, but I decided to go ahead and get it (even though the app has the same content as the website). I was aware of the $2 yearly fee for updates (even though it's not very obvious that's the case before hand). But here is my real complaint. You don't even get the updates that have been released prior to purchase... As a developer here, I say that is a pretty crappy deal. At lease give us an up to date app for our money, future updates is another story.

This app is sooooo amazing!!! Five stars!. This app is totally awesome for anyone who likes j r r tolkens world of Arda or and middle earth. I used it all the time some times just to read for fun. Some times for thinks I need to look up. It's totally awesome and worth it! They even have maps!!! I think they should update it with more though, but still they have some! Keep updating this app who ever is in charge of it! Because its awesome! Well done.

Truly helpful, thank you!. I want to get into the Tolkien-verse, but am a slow reader and find the idea of reading ALL of the books very intimidating. Thiz app is so helpful. It seems quicker so far than going online to look through the different sites. AND the quick links to all of the other articles involved are soooooo nice. For example: I wanted to learn about the Balrog, found it easily. In learning about it, I found out that they're ancient spirits. So I clicked on that. And so forth haha. It's so easy to get sucked into the lore.

Not worth $5. App looks like it was designed 10 years ago.

Perfect. Flawless, clear, simple when it needs to be and indepth when necessary. The best Tolkien maps ever made, btw.

Great!!!. A wonderful app, no problems loading and using on latest software and iPhone. Would be great if we could get a travel calculator that determines how long it would take to get between pints according to mode of transport.

Best Encyclopedia ever!. Omg my dream came true! One day I dreamed that there would be an app that has the lord of the rings info and maps and character description and blah blah blah and then I went to see if there was any new lord of the rings app and I found this. I reckon the app is worth $10 but it's only $3 thank U!!!!!!!!

Wow!. This is such an amazing app! A must have for every Tolkien fan!

Great. Feels good man

Dissapointing. Downloaded a few times but each time the app doesn't open and displays a black screen. Also causes my phone to freeze for about a minute. Not happy

Handy app. Very handy for trying to get your head around Tolkiens huge world. Especially the Silmarrilion

Follower. Would prefer a more in depth look into middle earth but still a great app

Great. Best app ever

Love this App.. My daughter & I keep this app open when watching LOTR. We love looking for histories & extra information on everything. Love, Love, Love it!!!

Awesome. Awesome app for anyone interested in Tolkien lore and the history before and after lord of the rings

Fantastico. Good stuff, this is essentially a Tolkien dictionary in app form :) It won't disappoint!

Great. Great app-I had to come back to rewrite my review the more I use this app the more awesome it gets - well worth the money for true Tolkien fans :)

Amazing!. Excellent Tolkien resource, a wealth of information!

Speechless. This app is so cool!..... That's about it. Though, sometimes, it isn't exactly precise. If you're a LOTR fan, this app is for you!

I get a lot out of it. I really like pouring over Tolkien and this app is great for it. I've stayed up much too late on many occasions reading up on Middle Earth. Lots of content and the hyperlinks are great for reading more into subjects you'd easily miss otherwise

Excellent resource.. Great source for Middle-Earth references on the go!

Incredible.. Worth every penny.

Amazing reading reference. I am using this app like crazy while reading The Silmarillion, what a great reference. I was getting lost on names and going back and forward on the book.

Works great. Well designed, and useful

Too much of a good thing.... Is a good thing! There is so much info in this app it's mind-blowing. Can't imagine how long it took to compile. I don't normally write app reviews, but this app was too good not to. I started reading The Silmarillion and this app offers great additional details on locations, characters, and other lore. When Tolkien mentions something I've never heard of, I just look it up on the app. Really enriches the reading experience for me when I have some background information. Great job on this app!

the best. surely the best tool for tolkien lovers

Great app !. Great app. I love it. The only problem ... I'm having troubles stopping reading it. Well worth it.

Totally worths the price !. VERY useful while reading Tolkien without Wi-fi connection, or just by itself to learn more or to remember infos about caracters, places, races, etc.

Wonderful :). Excellent app and well worth the money! Not interested in the movie information though, the symbols beside the words are great for quickly seeing what category it fits under (though I was disappointed in seeing the "eye" of Sauron). Still enjoy using my offline version on my computer.

Awesome. An invaluable tool.

Knowledge. Amazing

Fantastic!. Accurate well written information!

Good app. This app excels where others fall by the wayside because you can work offline. If not for this excellent feature, the app would not be worth the $3. Instead, having the lexicon of Tolkien's work at your fingertips without needing to access the Internet is definitely worth it. No crashing or bug-related failures to document just yet.

Spectacular!. Comprehensive, easy to use, and informative! A must have for any Tolkien fan, and extremely useful for anyone reading through the books.

Very well-made app. Incredibly useful for Tolkien addicts such as myself. The info is accurate, well-worded, and clear. I also had a ton of fun with the Movie-Goer's guide being that I didn't notice many of the flaws whilst watching it myself (aside from obvious ones like the exclusion pf the Barrow Downs or the 17 year skip from one scene to another).

Fantastic. So excited to find this app!

Indispensible. I love having the whole Arda website in my pocket. It is great having this resource whether I am reading or discussing Tolkien, or I am trying to come up with a cool character name for D&D.

Fantastic App. Great app for the geek in me. Never thought I would be sitting in my work lunchroom checking out some heavy Tolkien lore but hey it made the day slightly better...

What an awesome guide!. Very comprehensive and the perfect guide to learning about everything Tolkien.

Very thorough. I like this app for casual browsing of articles and have found the answer to every LOTR question I have ever asked it. For some reason the icon has lost it’s picture (hey developers, how about fixing that), but the app still works. Great for any LOTR fan.

Most impressive!. A must have for any die hard Tolkien fan. All the reference information at your fingertips. Pretty much covers everything.

Great for an LotR enthusiast. The app is fantastic and very easy to navigate, however I'd like it to me even more informative. It's a matter of content, non the less I give it 5 stars.

Great!. Excellent app. I would ask the maps be a little more hi-res if possible and all names be linked to their corresponding page.

great to have while reading or after. this is a good resource to have while reading any Tolkien book (about middle earth). be weary for spoilers when looking up characters just like looking up characters in the silmarillion glossary

Pretty Awesome. A brilliantly designed and easy-to-use collection of info. Unfortunately, some of the articles have not been completed yet, and some of them are lacking considerably; once the info is actually there it'll be 5/5.

Crash bug. This is a perfect reference for anyone interested exploring Tolkien's Middle Earth, but it has one issue: the app crashes when attempting to enter an accented character using an iPhone 5, iOS version 7.0.3. It would be great if this were fixed in a future update.

Great Resource!. I have a number of print Tolkien references, but this one has the big advantages of being mobile and never disappearing on my shelf! Addicting!

Beautiful app for LOTR fans. I have always love the Encyclopedia of Arda website for its detailed and interactive entries. Now I can have it on my phone! The app is beautifully detailed and easy to read. It's a little pricey, but totally worth the cost for a true fan 😄

Very good app. Excellent reference for fans and readers. Well designed and easy to use. I particularly appreciate the light text on black background, which is much easier on the eyes.

Fantastic!. After fumbling around with other encyclopedias I found this one online and it's fantastic. Very easy to use and has more than enough to answer any of my hundreds of questions. SO glad I found it and consider it money very well spent.

Best 1 stop source app around. I've been using the web site for years now. The iPhone app is buy to use, but for the Tolkien fans, hobbyist, gamers, etc, its well worth it. The wealth of lore stored here is amazing. Many thanks and kudos to everyone involved in this project!

Indispensable tool. This is the perfect companion to have while reading any of the Tolkien books, but especially the "history of Middle Earth" books. Worth the price.

A Tolkien Fan Must Have!!!. I have always loved the website & have spent hours craning my neck towards the screen. Now I can read all about the world of Tolkien from the palm of my hand! Absolutely love it!!!

Wow. I am in love with this app. Everything you ever wanted to know about the world of Tolkien. It has more info than any reference book that I have bought in stores. Covers it all from the Hobbit to the Simerilian, the Tolkien histories to the unfinished tales.

Good but could be great!. This encyclopedia has pretty much every person place and thing from the world of Tolkien, but I think that more can be written about many characters. There is so much more about them that is not mentioned here. Other than that it's good.

Didn't know it existed!!. I've searched "tolkien" plenty of times in the itunes app store but this app never popped up! I only heard about this app because I googled "tolkien apps" - I think this app would get a LOT MORE PURCHASES if a "tolkien" search result made it pop up... As for the app? AMAZING! A TOLKIEN LOVERS DREAM!!

Unbelievable!!. This app is incredible. I am so thankful someone has taken the time to distill down all of the information for this app and the website. Awesome!!

Very well done. A surprising amount of love and attention to detail was put into the production of this app. Fantastic. I'm very pleased. Great pocket reference for a very good price. You'll spend five times as much for a hard copy of Robert Foster's Complete Guide to Middle-Earth. And this is every bit as well detailed.

An absolute must. A must have for any Tolkien fan. Whether it be the books, films or both. Arguably the most helpful Tolkien companion I've ever had the luxury of reading. The app creators have done a remarkable job with names, pronunciations, maps, definitions and beyond. Absolutely remarkable.

Fantastic!. When it comes to reference material for Tolkien's universe, The Encyclopedia of Arda is my go-to. The app makes it all that much easier - and I never want for something to read on the bus!

A guilty pleasure. Now I can enable my Tolkien preoccupation at all hours of the night! Wait, maybe that's not a good thing. Anyway, I've been enjoying EOA since '99... Thanks for this!

Excellent transfer from Web to App. I have been a great fan of the website for years, and I find the app to be an even more elegant platform.

This was excellent as a website. But as an App...it's awesome! The only thing I would ever like to see added is quite impossible; hot-linking into the books using iBooks. That might be too much awesome for one device, however.

Great Reference. 100% amazing. Thanks for this. I don't care to pay 3 bucks for this. Keep the updates to the articles coming as you can.

Keep it going!. Awesome, keep it going. If you want to know more than just the movies or have forgotten the books, use this app and visit the website. You won't be disappointed!

Tolkien lore in wiki format. Love this app. When u have 15 minutes to spare, I pop in and read some entries. Great fun, just wish the were maps and images.

Wizard in your iPhone!. An excellent and indispensable reference work to the greatest alternate reality ever imagined! It's like having a very patient Wizard in your iPhone to answer all your questions. Pippin needs this!

Great. This is essential for the casual and serious fan alike. Im glad to have found it and use it often. If anything, I wish it were even deeper and it's extremely deep. Very happy with it.

Fantastic!. Been a visitor to the website for years. So glad you guys made it into a app. I could not be more pleased with its style, easy use, and the incredible amount of information. It even has maps! This is a first class app and worth every penny. Well done!!

Well Worth The Money. I love this app. My friends and family joke that I know everything about Middle Earth and its history but even I learned things I never knew all thanks to this app. =)

Great app. If Tolkien falls within your range of interests, then this is the app for you. Having this open while reading the books can help keep all of the people, places and dates straight.

Good - More Info Please. The app is a good one in style and format, but I wish the articles had lot more information. There is a lot more you could say about some of these figures and other entries. All in all, though, well worth the small charge!

Fantastic Tolkien Resource!. This had an amazing amount of Tolkien information in it. Maps, facts, references are all here. If you are a Tolkien fan, you will love this app.

Tolkienian Perfection.. I've been obsessed with all things Tolkien all my life. This is like Christmas Day. I literally re-read Tolkien with this app open next to me. BUY IT.

Great for Tolkien Fans and Newbies!. This app is basically an encyclopedia of the world Tolkien created. It has entries on every character, location, and creature in all of Tolkien's books, not just The Lord of the Rings. This app is great for both die hard fans and newbies to Arda!

Great resource. This app is an invaluable resource when reading any of Tolkien's books on Middle-earth. It provides a quick reference when needed or a more detailed description on more obscure topics. It also includes maps, genealogies and timelines. Highly recommended!

Fly you fools and get this now!. Every thing you need is jam packed into this well laid out app. Could use pictures from the movies for some topics to help the reader understand a bit more. Other than that its PERFECT!!!

Great reference. Nicely cross references within every subject. I would recommend to any Tolkien fan who would like more info on the mythos. I wouldn't mind seeing more illustrations included, but overall - Well done!

Wonderful app!. This is an amazing app. The encyclopedia of arda has been a consistent and comprehensive source of Tolkien information for me for years, and this app makes it super convenient to use!

Excellent app!. This a great app if you want quick and accurate information regarding Tolkien's universe. I spend more time on this than playing games.

Beyond Words. Absolutely. Amazing. I love this app! Wish it would update more, but i understand that these things take a while to compile. Waiting patiently!!!

WOW. This is definitely the app you're looking for. Amazing Tolkien reference; very easy to use. I can't seem to put it down!

Amazing! Must for Tolkien fans!!. This works great on my iTouch 4g. I was intimidated by the Simarillians but now I feel like I can finally go on reading without fear of memory loss....!! It does lag a bit so I hope some updates can fix that. Thanks for a great app!!!

Awesome App!. This app is great! Well worth the couple bucks it costs. It's super thorough and easy to use. Each topic has etymology, dates, and an article on the topic with links to all the names and places mentioned therein. The article on Tom Bombadil is particularly good.

Perfect.. This is quite honestly the best app on my iPhone. Easy to use, easy to navigate, very expansive and detailed articles. Great work, my favorite app by far.

A huge delight!. This wonderfully crafted encyclopedia is a must for every Tolkien-lover! Although there's much more to improve about the design (it's rather crude), the application comes in very handy and is still user-friendly!

Useful app. It's a useful app to look up information on Tolkien's world in every age. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because there's still more that can be added.

Great app! Perfect companion for The Silmarillion. This app is excellent and easy to use. Has accurate info regarding all things middle earth. The only complaint I have is the maps need more detail. Also having a world map that's easily accessible from the home screen would be great but unfortunately They don't have this

Arda Encyclopedia. This app is a great resource for all things Tolkien. The timelines and maps are especially useful. The books can be dense, especially Silmarillion, and the searchable aspect makes it a great companion!

Very Pleased. My primary satisfaction with this comes from a quick to access app. I enjoy that I have the ability to access a majority (I haven't tried everything yet) of the content!

Fantastic!. This is a great resource for anything related to Tolkien's works, though since it is so expansive, there are many articles in need of extra information in the form of updates.
