Friendly Social Browser App Reviews

Broke completely yesterday EDITED. This used to be my favorite, but it’s useless now. Hide by Keyword used to be the best feature. Doesn’t work now. Facebook pages now look just like Facebook pages. I might as well be using the Facebook app. I reported the issue but I’m not holding my breath. EDIT: It’s been many months since I expressed the above disappointment, but suddenly it’s back the way I was. I never have to hear about anybody’s birthday again. So far. Even hide by keyword “sponsored” works again.

Good app!. So far, I really like having Friendly. Mainly, I they allow me to use the Facebook newsfeed and the messenger all in one app, and it doesn’t take up as much space. It’s been kinda screwy lately, but there was just an update promising to fix a bunch of bugs, so we’ll see how that improves. The only thing I would love to see added is the calling feature. I live somewhere that makes it hard for people to call me on regular phone service, so some people use the messenger or WhatsApp. None of my friends from outside of my area have WhatsApp though, so it makes it a little less helpful. Everyone seems to have FB messenger though, because they’re FORCED to. I have both this app and the original Facebook app on my phone still, because there are a couple of things that I have found hard to do on friendly and I have had to go to the other one to do. But other than those small annoyances, and the lack of a calling feature, I really like this app. Thank you!

Good replacement for Facebook's app. Update: I don’t know how many years I’ve been using this but it just keeps getting better. Not only that, but I filed a bug report last night, and within hours had a response. And less than 24 hours later, it is already fixed. Spend the two bucks to get the pro version or to upgrade this version. It's worth the cost. I switched to this app because of how bloated Facebook's app had become, both in size and features. So far, I am pleased. There are some issues with the app but there have been two bug fix releases since I started using it two weeks ago, and the app continues to get better. While I have some concerns with the effects of ad blockers on the information economy, I very much appreciate the ad blocker in the app. Especially when visiting sites that use ads in an abusive manner.

I LOVE THIS AMAZING APP, but...... It needs a few more things. The fact that it’s ONE TENTH the size of Facebook/Facebook Messenger, which combined come in at about 725 megabytes, is amazing. The customization options are great, the fact you can empty cache or modify feed etc are awesome and I recommend this app all the time. But, it needs video and voice chat in Messenger. It does. I need these things. My friends need these things and it’s the only thing holding them back. I’m sure you can add them without bloating out the app. You got an amazing app that could be STELLAR. Get on it and give us the few tweaks we need, including other recommendations in the App Store comments. I don’t mind paying for an app that delivers. SO DELIVER, and add the tweaks and watch your sales numbers skyrocket.

Wanted to like it, but it’s not good. I’m tired of Facebook’s app. It misuses data. It abuses permissions. It’s a battery hog. They change it every week for no reason whatsoever. Basically I hate it. After switching to Friendly, though, I’m afraid I’m forced to switch back and it makes me mad. But Friendly is just so bad, so crippled that I can’t do it anymore. So what’s so bad about it? First of all, the messenger portion is terrible. It didn’t notify me of a message until much later. If at all. I couldn’t use gifs. And no matter if I read all the messages, it still said I had an unread one. I long ago switched back to the Facebook messenger app. Second, I wasn’t get all my Facebook notifications. And conversations and comments weren’t always showing up. Just way too buggy. Third, I set up a password and used Face ID. For some reason it rarely worked. I can unlock my phone with my face but then go to friendly and it’s like “who dis?” Forth, to reemphasize, it doesn’t allow native use of gifs. Sorry but I use them all the time. To not be able to use them is a major annoyance. Finally, and this was the reason I’m deleting it - I recently started hearing a loud piercing “beep” when On Friendly. I couldn’t figure it out until swiping on the control center and I saw it was some sort of ad. Are you serious? It was annoying, and it didn’t matter if my volume was up or down, if I had it on silent, whatever. Not acceptable. If you’re doing something shady like that, what other shady things is the app doing? DELETE.

Excellent Substitute For Facebook. I’ll preface this by saying that I only use Friendly’s Facebook features, so I’m not knowledgeable on how the Instagram or Twitter features work. In my opinion, Friendly is way better than the official Facebook app, especially if you prefer your timeline to show “most recent” instead of “top stories.” Most of the same functionality is there, with the addition of awesome features such as night mode and ad removal. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is that it seems like it doesn’t background refresh even though I have it set to do so. I don’t get any notifications until I open the app to check. So far, that one minor annoyance can be overlooked because of all the positive things this app offers.

Best alternative to the Facebook app. If you need to use Facebook, want more features then the Facebook website, but don't trust the Facebook app, Friendly is for you. It even has ad blocking for the news feed! I've tried a couple of other Facebook app alternatives over the years, but they all either have stopped being updated or just don't work very well. Making an app like this that works well and maintaining it for years takes some serious dedication. Friendly's not quite as smooth as the Facebook app, but given that it's a custom browser that applies a lot of tweaks to the Facebook site, that's to be expected. Can't have it all.

Not all functions work. I use this app to access my secondary FB account that I keep for following and talking on my geeky fansite pages (anime etc) because I got tired of people teasing me about it on my regular FB page. But I also hate signing in and out of different accounts constantly on FB. So - for that reason I like having this separate app. However, it is often VERY glitchy. Most of the time you can’t click on ‘reply’ to a comment in a message thread. The screen just gets a gray tint if you click reply, and you can’t do anything. Now it’s started doing that on more things. Tried to update my page BG picture, and when I click on the camera icon on my current picture from the “Edit Profile” section, I get the same grayed out screen and can’t change it. Very frustrating. These issues have been ongoing for months. Would be nice if the developers would fix such big problems. If not, I will be looking for a replacement app.

Great Overall. Could Improve 2 Areas. So overall this app works great across all social media platforms. It even works pretty well with X/Twitter despite the new TOS that prohibits third party apps from being used with twitter. There are two issues when using with X: 1) when accessing twitter spaces as a speaker or listener, something seems to be draining the RAM on my iphone that doesn’t happen when using the X app and my connection to Twitter spaces gradually slows down and loses connection after a few minutes. My iPhone also tends to really heat up thermally when using Friendly for X spaces. 2) when using it to access various accounts across all platforms, it would help if there was a setting to remember or store your login credentials for a given account and to have autofill.

Pretty buggy. Can't play a video more than 3 seconds long to save it's life. 2 back buttons that are inconsistent and make no sense. Text selection is completely broken. Browsing is a poor substitute for safari or chrome... I fact, the only thing this thing has going for it at this point is that it isn't made by facebook or doing creepy things when I'm not using it. The app petty consistently launches to a blank white screen, requiring you to explicitly quit the app and relaunch until you actually get FB to load. I've reported this a number of times and the authors have never fixed it nor asked for any information. ETA: this had finally been fixed. All the other problems remain. Devs still haven't made contact. ETA: Nope. Not fixed again.

gotten quite buggy. I can’t even begin to list all the bugs in the FB integration. Most infuriatingly it constantly resets the feed to the top, whether you toggle away to another app for even a few seconds, or even if you were in the middle of entering a comment on a post. It completely ignores all contextual hints that it should stay put. IMO it should never reset the feed unless requested to by the user. Also if you scroll up too far when writing a long post it calls for feed reset and you lose the entire post! It’s unfortunate how infrequently it gets updated, and when it does happen it never seems to address the most obvious and egregious bugs in the current version. Also a lot of feature lag: it still doesn’t handle large text posts with backgound, nor support GIF comments.

A great little app but.... It’s great to have my go to social apps in one location. If this were an older gen iPhone it would be perfect. It customizable for the most part . Ad blocker works great unless you click on a link that takes you outside the app. Passcode lock so people can’t view you stuff if you hand someone your phone. All in all a great little app but does not fit the iPhone X screen you know the unibrow which I have grown accustomed to. So I hope it is updated soon. To the Dev : You have done a great job and I have bought the paid version to support your efforts. For now though I am going to stick with the main apps and come back in a bit and hope for an update. Looking forward to progress.

Just as good as Facebook app. I’m able to use friendly to get to my FB feed. It works the same as the iPhone app, as far as I can tell. The one drawback is I do have trouble using the search bar to find people. If I want to go to a friend’s page, I don’t know how to search for them. I have to go to my friends list. I didn’t see much in the app description about privacy. One of my friends just posted that the FB app is looking at your “off Facebook activity” and you need go to FB app settings to turn that off. I think using Friendly prevents such spying. Friendly has me logging in quite frequently. That is a little annoying.

Bad connections. Once again, you update and it blocks me out of using the app from my other devices. I don’t want to use family sharing. It opens up a whole new can of worms. The more you improve the more it goes wrong. Soon it won’t be worth anything as an app. Update, sent a beta version on test flight that fixed the problem. My other devices that I used for Facebook account worked just fine. The other just crashed right after you tried to start it. Reinstall did nothing. The beta version started it up right away. The fix came fast and although I have had this problem previously it was fixed as well. Other than that this program is a great program with some bugs. Better than the Facebook app by far. Next, since everyone one is password crazy, which is fine. I don’t want to have to signed into this app everyday. I sign in for too much already, thank you. Just like having to respond to this. It gets tiring. About ready to can the whole social app concept. Found it!

Used this app for about a year, very good privacy, horrible for playing videos.. I wish I could give this app a 5 star, it has everything I thought I could ask for in a social media app, easily switch between accounts, hide ads, and have more privacy. However this app has a glaring issue and that is with its video playback. If a video is a few seconds the app has no issues but the moment a clip is over a minute you will not be able to watch it. I have tried this on two devices to no avail. Also tagging people in comments is no intuitive and might just be impossible because I haven’t figured it out after a year. For those reasons I give this app an average rating.

Usable. The convenient thing about this app is that it is not from Meta and it has private messaging built in, as the FB app once did. And it does strive to throttle ad posts, though it has declined in that capacity. The UI is pretty crappy, though. Where the FB app might give you a pop-up, or show you a few of the comments on a post, this app slides you to a whole nother screen view. The sliding itself is pretty annoying, especially when you end up looking at a blank screen for the time it takes to load (my connection could be faster), but the amount of sliding gets excessive: want to look at the likes list? you have to slide over to comments first, then slide over to the likes, when it would be so much better if it could just detect where you tapped and pop the list up right there. Other apps do that. It cannot be that hard. Then, there is a nav bar at the bottom, which is great for a phone but is just wasted space on an iPad. The buttons are a bit iffy, in that, say, the bell icon will slide you over to notifications, but if you go look at notification content, then decide you want to go straight back to feed or messaging, those buttons do not take you there, they take you back to notifications before you can get to where you actually wanted to go. Then there is the bar-hide feature, which is fine up to the point where the bar hides and refuses to come back, forcing you to flick the app away and relaunch it. Finally, the browser thing is seriously bad. Its nav behavior can be confounding, and when you select "Open in Safari", it does not actually open Safari but slides you over to a new browser pane. I would be very happy if they just canned the embedded browser entirely and let me open links in Safari. It does have an advantage or to, but the design is desperately wanting.

Decent app, but definitely not flawless. The good: I can read and send messages without installing Messenger, and the app seems to update better/more frequently than the official Facebook app does. The bad: Quite frequently, it will shut off in the middle/end of my typing a post (and obviously, all the typing is lost). Not only that, but from time to time, I'll type a post, hit "post", and it'll disappear. By far the biggest issue I've had, though, is that if I don't close out of the app before locking my phone, it turns my phone off, and it can be hours before it will turn on again. Full battery doesn't matter; plugging it in doesn't help. I'm using an iPhone 5s; not a single other app has ever done this, but Friendly does it at least half the time I forget to exit the app before locking my phone.

The only way to Facebook. This app has been my saving grace. When I want to view my page without being hit with multiple chats I use this app. Yes, I could turn chat off on the reg fb. But I prefer to use friendly in those times, so I don’t feel the guilt of turning away from my friends and family. This allows me an escape, to view and reminisce . For me this app offers calmness. Not the business of the fb app. It is also fun with all the screen options, changing colors etc things fb does not offer. All the above and many more are the reasons for my five stars.

Probably the best way to get rid of ads on Facebook. I had Friendly a while back and it was still in its early days. I deleted it and after downloading the original Facebook app, I was tired of seeing like every 4th post being an ad. So I just started reporting ads but I grew tired of doing that very quickly. I remembered about Friendly and saw the other review and so I quickly downloaded and logged in to my Facebook and I kid you not Facebook is actually likeable again without all the ads. Plus, I added my LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, etc to do the same. This app is pretty legit and worth paying for. My Reddit fails to load however. I am able to login but once I login my feed won’t come up. Any reason why that is? Other than that this app is solid!

Does what it promises and some other cool things. Could use some more functions though.. I quit tiktok a couple years ago because the constant doomscrolling was consuming my life and I felt more free with my time. And then every other social media introduced vertical video so I’m back to where I was before. Anyways in relation to Friendly, this app does what it promises, removes trackers and ads. The only exception I have seen is on Instagram stories, some sponsored posts make it through the filters. A lot of the sponsored posts are from brands I have already seen so I’m not sure if this is something Friendly can fix or if this is something on Instagram itself. But other than that I have no complaints here. The other thing this app offers is that (I don’t have TikTok on here so I can only confirm for Instagram) it disables scrolling! I can’t doom scroll if the function to scroll doesn’t exist!! I love that a lot and I hope it stays like that, because now when I hop on social media, it’s for a fully conscious reason, rather than just habitual. The only other things I would request that I haven’t mentioned is that Friendly should offer the option to receive notifications from the social media apps and have that be forwarded on mobile. Like instead of me keeping the Instagram mobile app just for the notifications, Friendly could just say “you have a notification from Instagram” or something like that so I can remain in contact and not have to think about it. The last thing would be to easily switch between multiple accounts on the same social media without needing to log in multiple times. Like with how easy it is on the main app because the app knows both accounts. I’d be okay with saving that login info to Friendly if it provided that ease of access. Didn’t mean for this to become an essay, but I hope this helps!

More annoying, ongoing. Why are reels so tiny. They are so small now that the embedded text covers 3/4 of the image more times than not. If one were to check my usage, it would be clear that my access of reels has dropped precipitously. Every update seems like more silliness for users to work around. Predictive text produces gibberish now. Last letters of last words disappear when punctuation is used. 🤯 Now I am unable to reply on friends’ threads at all. Tech support is continuing to try & fix it, yes? Or is the app cooked now. The dump outs continue. And now there’s tutorials popping up every single time I restart the app. How does one turn off the pop up tutorials, please. The app now frequently (multiple times each day) dumps me out when I’m replying to a post. I have to start typing it from scratch. The group suggestions that appear at the bottom of a thread and bounce, so “accept” is accidentally clicked. That messenger is no longer accessible. I’m running out of reasons to continue using this application. Can/will any of this be fixed??

Still haven’t fixed that STUPID auto refresh!. Ok, listen. Myself (and others I’m sure) have brought up the issue of, for example: I’m scrolling DOWN on the screen (which is bringing you back up to the top of the Marketplace ad pics you are looking at) so you can get to the “Back” button to go back to the place in the Feed where you were. But in doing the scrolling, when you get to the top, it pulls down that stupid Refresh action that then sends you back to the top of the Feed where you DON’T WANT to be! This is a MAJOR problem. You say in “fixes” that you fixed that problem, but you HAVE NOT. Please stop that stupid refresh action. I just want to be able to back into the Feed where I left off. Not have to start all over again from the top of the Feed. Thanks! Steve.

Look elsewhere. Not the app it once was…. Honestly, I can’t take it. I’ve been a user of this app for over 6 years now and each year it gets slightly worse. However, this year I’ve had enough. I primarily use this app for Facebook only but it performs so jank, that a quarter of the features don’t work anymore. Not to mention, you’re rolling a ~35% gamble every time you open the app for it to load nothing at all! It’s incredibly frustrating as a long time user to see this app go downhill and there’s nothing being done to fix it. Look elsewhere for a privacy-focused or generally better built multi-social media app because this isn’t a good option anymore

Friendly app in-use. Friendly is a quick way to access multiple FB accounts. Although it is quick, there are a few frustrating issues I encounter, despite updates. The most recent is the voice-to-text feature. On my iPhone 10max, every app except Friendly work fine when using voice-to-text. On Friendly, despire my rate of delivery, I can only get 3-4 words out before it stops. Weird. This has been the same symptom on current upgrade, as well as past past two upgrades. Hoping they figure out the bug and patch it. It’s the most irratitng issue, presently. Anotger is tge canera doesn’t work when trying to send a pic directly. Once the pic is taking in the Camera app, friendly uploads fine. I wish they’d delete this non-working feature, if they can’t resolve it. Thanks, Jim

Great app but poor video quality. Update 2022: (I only use this for Facebook, same with my previous review) So the video thing still applies. Not sure if that’s something that CAN be fixed. The scrolling still feels weird. It’s smooth but not responsive. The main issue I’ve been having lately is going back after reading comments. Especially in a group page. I swipe left to go back and it takes me all the way back to the home page. It will even do this if I just open a photo in a comment. There is a small arrow on the “address” bar next to ‘Facebook’ that will take you back as you’d expect. But that doesn’t always show up. If the big arrow did that same thing and the swiping did what the small arrow did then that would be fine. Or at least give an option to change what the swipe gesture does. There is some jank with the app too like darkmode isn’t perfect everywhere. Starting the app loads with this white page with the app logo so that’s annoying at night. I’d love to see that be a black page to respect your dark mode settings. The app is still great though. I like that it blocks ads and trackers. It also tells you what advertisers are tracking you. Dark mode does look great on the feed too. I like the color schemes. Original review: I love this app. The dark mode is great. Scrolling isn’t as smooth as the official Facebook app but that isn’t that much of an issue. My only real issue is the video playback. It’s always very low quality. The same exact video will be just fine on the official app but when I switch over to friendly, the video is much lower quality. Even downloading it in HQ downloads that low quality version. If this issue was fixed, I’d be convinced to switch over to it for good.

“No more posts to show right now” makes no sense.. I’ve been using Friendly for several years, because of how easy it is to manage multiple accounts. But this latest update is frustrating me. I get to the ‘end’ of Facebook, where it says there are no more posts to show right now. That’s impossible. Facebook has been around for over a decade, and I have any friends and am in a lot of active groups. There is no possibility that I could even scroll through all the activity for one day if I access FB from my desktop - especially with all that’s . I’ve tried chronological view and top stories and that happens with both. There have been various issues and glitches over the years, but this makes it nearly unusable.

Recent July 2021 update tanked the app. Update: Dev responded super quickly and released an update that resolved the page loading issues - now if we could just the page load to be black instead of blaring white (or follow system settings) that would bump it up to 5 stars I’ve been using friendly since I got my iPhone and it’s been acceptable up until now - now after the most recent update it seems to be much slower at loading, if it loads at all, and when it’s doing so it’s a blaring white screen (pretty rough if you use dark mode like I do) - I’m hoping the dev is seeing these reports/reviews and rolls back changes if possible

Please respond →Desperately needs a FWD ⏭ button/function. Can you please add a “Forward” ❯ button or swiping function? Currently you only have a ❮ back button that appears when browsing. And also only the go backwards swiping works but not the swiping forward. As you know every browser has both a ❮go backwards function and a ❯ go forward one. If your app already has this ability please let me know how it works. Thank you so much! - JR ------- My Last REVIEW------- There's no debating that this App is hands down a lot better option for smartphone users. Instead of handing over most of ones cellphone privacy by using the official Facebook and FB Messenger iOS apps. I've been using this app for nearly 3 years. And I want to thank the developers who consistently work extremely hard to keep the app at optimal performance. The only bug that I continue to have for as long as I can remember now is when it comes to clicking on the notification that someone has accepted my friendship. Once I click on this area it doesn't show how these new friendship additions are. But instead it says there no new friendships. However later when I go on from my laptop I see that I truly did have some new friends added. Can you please address this issue asap? Thank you again!

I use this more than Facebook see⬇️. Still glitches BUT. This app gets around the Facebook algorithm so that you can ACTUALLY see posts in your feed in real time instead of recycling the 20 same friends. Then there is the Twitter reposting where you should use Friendly to repost those as well. Also this isn’t saturated w/ ads! Highly recommend this as an additional tool for Facebook. The only real reason to use Facebook is for uploading pics, vids & status. But you need to keep under the allowed characters to use Facebooks ignorant color background to get way more views. I If not. Not many ppl will even see it. It’s worth as an add on. And plz come back & leave a comment of the specific person glitches when you review this. Hope to read others soon.

It’s much better than the alternative. Edited to reflect new update as of April 1st: The new update looks great. However, the same inconsistency exists with the “back” button and the backward arrow. I wish that it would be consistent. It’s better than using the regular Facebook app. I almost don’t want the UI to improve because it would make it more “fun” to use, and I don’t want to be on Facebook more than I need too. However, there is confusion with the backwards arrow and the actual back button. If I’m searching posts in a sale group, click on a post, then press the back arrow, I might go back to my notifications or my feed or whatever. I think it would be better to have the back button (which would take me back to the sale group) stay on screen when viewing a post. Or at least make it only appear when you scroll up. Currently it’s only at the very top of the post.

Love this app but..... I enjoy using this app because it provides a private experience without the tracking associated with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. The features are great, allowing you to choose any color you want for customization. However, I have encountered a few issues. Sometimes, when I try to launch the app, it displays a black screen instead of loading properly. Additionally, when I attempt to comment or remove myself from a group on Facebook, the screen becomes faded, and I am unable to interact with it. I’m not sure if this relates to the app's scripting, but I would love to share this feedback with the developer. Overall, it’s a fantastic app for those looking to avoid the tracking of services like Facebook. It would be nice to have a Messenger version, though I tried it and wasn’t able to get it to work.

Great idea, but has some bugs. Just heard of this app, and I love it so far. The Messenger section of the app is a little buggy though. I can’t see all group chats for some reason. There are two larger group chats that I’m a part of that don’t show. These group chats have a name associated with them, so I’m not sure if that has something to do with it. The small groups that just display the names of the people in them seem to show. Another bug seems to be that I can’t clear the unread message count. I even open up the messenger app to make sure I can clear my notifications, but the count doesn’t go away.

So far so good!. I couldn’t get FB to work in the official FB app. I could not see notifications and it was driving my crazy. No amount of updating or uninstalling and reinstalling worked. So I looked for other options which lead me to Friendly. So far I am loving this app! I can see ALL my notifications and I’m seeing posts from all my friends not just who FB wants me to see. If I continue to like this app, I’m going to pay the extra to remove the ads. But they don’t really bother me anyway. They are not annoying. I have added Instagram to this but don’t really check it, so I cannot tell you how the other social networks work.

Awesome Alternative For Privacy. I recently deleted Facebook and Facebook Messenger due to privacy concerns. While Apple has done a lot in the newest iOS versions Facebook has still managed to circumvent some things. I don’t think I can post links here but if you look up recent findings on Facebook privacy you will see that a researcher discovered that Facebook still taps into the accelerator on the phone and can retrieve information from that. Anyway, while Friendly isn’t perfect is certainly a very good alternative to The Facebook app and you can still use messenger.

Broken connection between FB and Friendly. Update: after the latest release, Reels no longer work at all. Since the latest updates, videos do not work. When you click on one to play it, you get the audio and a black screen. The video will sometimes appear if you keep tapping, but then you get the audio from the black screen and the actual video. Reels do not work at all and lock you on that screen. The only way to get out is either tap the address bar and go back to the homepage or close the app and reopen it. On the plus side, it has significantly decreased my social media time since most things don't work anymore. Latest update makes me go through tutorial every time I open the app.

Finally!!!. I’ve recently downloaded this app to replace the FB app & I absolutely LOVE this! I was debating about whether or not to delete FB altogether. Does it have ALL the features the full FB app does? No, but I didn’t expect it to. One of the things I love most I got to delete FB & messenger as well since this app includes both. I love that you can customize the background color to make it your own. The app runs smoothly..no glitches so far. There really isn’t anything negative I have to say about this app right now. It has freed up soooo much space in my phone & I find myself spending less time on FB since downloading this app, which was one of my goals. As far as it being a good replacement for FB, IG, etc it really depends on what each persons needs are. Give it a shot, I know I was pleasantly surprised...not disappointed. Great job Friendly...I’ve FINALLY found a solution to all my FB issues. Thank you!!!

Didn’t Work. I was excited to use this app. However, 30 seconds in using FB the screen continually flashed on and off & never ceased. I switched to the desktop version and it seemed to stop and be okay; however, when I tried to respond to a comment on FB, nothing I typed actually was entered. I gave up. Before doing so, I recorded the screen to share with the app creators. I appreciate that I was able to send them a message about my experience, however, would have also liked the option to attach anything that would show what the problem was, as there was no ability to do so. There was a diagnostic report that automatically attached itself to my email but I was unable to open it or see what was reported. Total disappointment. I would be willing to give it another chance if problems were resolved & I could try again simply because I really wanted this to work, but I’m not going to try any of the other apps until this one is resolved. Time is money as they say!

Slow on iPhone, glitchy on iPad. This is an app that I have had for years. Facebook is an annoying and intrusive hog of an advertising application, so every so often I try this app and always end up deleting it for various issues. This time I decided to actually review it. The iPhone version - it is one of the slowest apps I have ever used. Once it Face IDs me, it takes forever for a screen to load. Sometimes tapping buttons will bring me where I want to go and sometimes it’s like I didn’t even tap a button. After a short period of time, it gets really annoying and it ends up deleted. iPhone 14 Pro Max with latest iOS. The iPad version - it is glitchy. If I have dark mode on, whenever I scroll, it will flash white at the top of the screen when scrolling down and at the bottom of the screen when scrolling up. Very annoying. I don’t know what other issues it might have because the white flashing during scrolling got it instantly deleted. Second generation iPad Pro 12.9” with latest iPadOS. I give this two stars because it would be a decent app if it weren’t screwed up like it is. Other than the Facebook app, it is the only game in town. I hope that it is better the next time I try it.

Been getting worse. I used to LOVE this app for Facebook. It used to be great! But now it no longer works - it just passes Facebook’s horrible mobile UI through. It no longer blocks ads or any content I had it set up to filter. I’ve reported this bug numerous times to the developer via the app for well over a month. No response. There’s been a couple updates to it since, but the issue remains unresolved months later. I’d sincerely appreciate it if the developer could use an in-app message or something to let us know whether they’re working on this or not. That would help me know if I should patiently wait, because I’m about ready to abandon it completely - which is sad, as I’ve used this app faithfully every day for years. Seriously, I’d be willing to pay a small subscription fee for this app if they’d keep it working. I realize that it could be Facebook screwing things up, but again, it would be nice if the developer of this app could somehow message us to let us know that, so they don’t take all the blame.

Really like the app. I’ve been using friendly for years since Facebook forced Messenger down everyone’s throats. I like using the Friendly app to read my messages on Facebook without having to use Messenger. For some reason, this doesn’t work to message a new person anymore, but it’s great for talking to people I’m already connected with. I would give this app five stars, but there are some things that work better with the actual Facebook app, so I have to use both. One thing I will say is that I had a problem with the app a few days ago, and the developer emailed me when it was fixed this morning. I have never had that happen with any app. Pretty cool.

Better than the app but lots of issues. I like this because it allows you to use facebook without all of the tracking garbage that gets put on your phone. I’ve never been able to use it for instagram, so I just generally try to run instagram on a mobile web browser instead. Lately, you can’t reply or comment on people’s posts. You can watch reels, like, and scroll. Honestly, that saves me a lot of time versus using the actual app, so I kind of appreciate it. 😝 Overall, much better than Facebook but if you like the full functionality, you’ll be missing a lot.

IPad issues. It’s a good app they just don’t put enough time into the iPad version of it. There are a couple bugs that have been persistent throughout each version. One of them is rotation on the iPad. If you’re scrolling through a Facebook feed and stumble on an article you want to read. When you go back to the feed it starts at the top again. This also happens when you switch from landscape to Portrait without looking at an article. It’s frustrating. Also when you have selected a default email like spark in iOS settings if you go to report an issue in the friendly app it doesn’t recognize the new default email program and you can’t send the report

Obviously Glitchy. When I first downloaded this app for my FB, it worked good, but then it logged me out and wouldn’t let me log back in. I did the paid version, and made sure everything was up to date on my phone, and with this app. I ended up having to uninstall it, then pay for it a SECOND time. Today, my entire news feed disappeared. I submitted a ticket, but haven’t heard back yet. I’m almost certain this app has a lot of issues now, and they want you to keep paying them to have it. I had it about a week the first time, and now the same this time around. It worked mostly fine when it worked except it was super slow at times, and it had a hard time being able to share anything or open up certain links from other pages. While I think this app could’ve been good, it’s obviously not a good long term option if you have to keep deleting it, paying for it each time, then reinstalling it.

OK for Facebook, BAD for Instagram. This app is a fine substitute if you just want to get Facebook off your phone, but it definitely has its flaws. There's no way to upload photos into people's comment sections. I always have to go to Facebook's mobile site and do it there. There is also no way to upload video from your phone to Facebook, I'm not sure if they'll be able to fix that, but it would be nice. The ads can be a little annoying but it's what you'd expect. If you are planning on also using this for Instagram, forget about it. Just keep the instagram app because the Friendly version is terrible. While the photo filters do work, the editing tools do not show up at all- it's just a blank empty space where they should be. I've updated this app several times and it's never been fixed, I think they only care about the Facebook portion of it. There is also NO way to receive direct messages from Instagram- I just found out today that people had been messaging me months ago and I never knew about it. Twitter seems to work fine on here, I haven't noticed any problems, but I also don't use it as much. The app periodically cleans itself which is good, and while it's nice to have everything in one place, just keep in mind that their main focus is Facebook so if you have other social media you might be better off keeping the original apps for those.

Doesn’t work like I thought it was supposed to. I don’t understand why when I look someone up and friend request them, if I try to send them a message it takes me to the built in messenger but doesn’t open a new message. It opens up the last message I sent to someone. So if I don’t watch I’ll be sending a message to the wrong person. This is a serious problem. It should open a new message to the person in sent the request to she intended to send a new message to. Not the same person I sent my last message to that has nothing to do with the new message I intended to send. I’ve tried every option in the app and still get this. I’ll have to look for another app if this isn’t corrected.

It's amazing that it works at all. Update: the ad blocker for Facebook has vanished from the latest version. That was the biggest reason to use Friendly despite its flakiness. Old review: I'm a privacy freak, so this is the only way I'll use Facebook in my iPad. Unfortunately, the app doesn't always work well. Since iOS 13, for example, the arrow keys on my Apple Keyboard no longer work in Friendly. Some features available in the Facebook desktop site appear to be missing in this app. And the app status line sometimes disappears until I kill the app and reload it. Comments to the developer about these issues have gone unanswered. I still use it, but I do with it (and its users) got a bit more attention from developers.

Bugs. I’ve been using friendly for a couple years and this is the first time I’ve felt compelled to write a review. When you click to read an article, it automatically switches to reader view, which cuts off half the article. When you try to switch out of reader view, it will switch back. After going through this 3 or 4 times, I’ve found myself ditching the friendly app and viewing the article in fb on the web. Give me the option to turn off reader view all together. I don’t like it on a good day and this is even more annoying. Anytime you send a link to someone, whether you are in friendly or not, the next time you go into friendly the app asks if you want to post that on fb. Usually a nuisance, but not obtrusive. Today, the share link option took over the entire screen, and the only way to get rid of it was to close the app and restart. Overall the app is good, but when bugs happen, boy do they come on strong.

Was a great 8 years until now. I loved the Friendly App. I’ve used it exclusively since it first came out, way back in 2010 or 2011. I told everyone about it. I tried the official Facebook app many times but I always delete it and returned to Friendly. I liked that the news feed stayed on Most Recent and it was easy to navigate. I like that I can personalize it by color and add other social media accounts. But this most recent update is awful. I used to be able to click a link and it would take me to Safari. Now, it doesn’t take me to Safari- I have to copy the link, exit Friendly, then go to Safari and paste and go. Trying to go back to the news feed after going to someone’s post and thread doesn’t always go back to the news feed, or it takes me so far such as back to the top of the feed. After checking notifications, I get stuck there and can’t get back to the newsfeed. There are just so many things wrong with this and I’m so disappointed. There’s a saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” I definitely will not be downloading the official Facebook app, and I’m ready to delete this one. It was a nice run, but your updated look is not better than before.

Great alternative to official app, ad blocking is excellent. I have been using this as an alternative to the official Facebook app for a few years. The $3 is well worth it if you don’t like all the ads. There are a few quirks and takes a little bit to get used to the difference. For some reason messenger doesn’t work within this app. Probably a setting haven’t figured out. I have kept official app and messenger loaded and switch to them when needed. Also not in this app that I have been able to figure out is Facebook news and marketplace. However it is very easy to switch the newsfeed version from popular to most recent and a few other options. I use this for about 80% of my Facebook browsing.

Worse with every update!. Have gone back to using regular messenger and fb apps. Tutorials for using app just pop up every time app is loaded. No way to remove them. Friendly doesn’t load on first few tries, it is just blank screen. Have to close out completely and restart it. Every single time since the latest few updates. Newsfeed is littered with irrelevant ads, sponsored pages/groups/people and suggested people and groups to follow. I see 1 actual friend post when notifications shows I have many more but newsfeed is just full of junk. Clicking manage ads does nothing. I spend more time blocking/reporting and hiding irrelevant suggested people/groups and pages to try and clean up newsfeed than actually reading friends posts. Utter waste of time. It is all just replaced with more junk. No way to view pdf’s or any files people have uploaded to files section of groups. Useless. Have to use regular FB app to view uploaded pdf’s and other files. Messenger: I’ve gone back to using regular app as the functionality in this one is ridiculous. The people are shown by profile pic on the left side not by name. I don’t have everyone’s profile image memorised! Some people frequently change theirs! Have to click on every person to figure out who is who. Unable to archive or delete chat, couldn’t find the option so went to regular messenger app for that as well. Every time messenger is opened in friendly it jumps to a random person messaged not a list of names. There is no notification of when a message is received either. Also messages sent just randomly disappear within the chat have no idea what happens to them or if the person saw them before they disappeared. Friendly used to be really very good. It has lost its effectiveness as updates seem to make it worse not better. Have reported issues several times, never had a reply.

Good app, very useful, BUT. Friendly no longer has the save button for video posts on Instagram, though I can still save photo posts. Over than that, great app.

The best. I’ve always wanted an IPhone app that allows me to successfully login to Facebook without having to use the actual Facebook App. This app also allows you to login to other of your social accounts or even if you have multiple Facebook accounts. I’m so stocked to have discovered this app. Gave them a good 4stars 😍😍

Awesome. Brilliant app, does as advertised, maybe sometimes I get a little annoyed with having to manually update Facebook conversations and such, but that's no biggy. Being able to quickly switch between multiple accounts is awesome. I'll give it that last star when gifs are supported, like tenor keyboard support or something in the least. Besides that, love your work. I'll be back when I can use gifs 😉

Can’t access groups after latest update. iPhone X using iOS 15.4.1 … FB - unable to find groups by clicking 3 bars bottom right, or change feed priority eg from Top Stories to Most Recent. Was working fine before that and a handy FB replacement app.

Not bad, some frustrations. I like the app, but there’s still some wacky issues in Instagram. For instance, I can’t edit photos because the editing options just don’t appear, and when I’m writing the caption of a new post, my keyboard randomly disappears. I love the ad blocking, I love having all my FB, Insta and Twitter in one app, and I love a lot of things about the interface. But these issues need fixing.

Notifications Issues. Pretty good app, but I have issues with timely notifications (most of the time I don't get notifications of FB Messenger messages until I reopen the app manually, so I miss stuff). Also, it's too easy to accidentally trigger the "Like" button when just scrolling through. I've accidentally liked stuff I didn't want to just when scrolling through my feed.

iOS 13 issues. Since the iOS 13 update the app in my iPad 6 no longer remembers where I was in my news feed after I exit the app and go back a few minutes later. Previously my timeline position was remembered for hours before it refreshed...now it won't go back to the same spot 5 mins later. Would love this fixed please.

Prompted ads and various issues. I’ve paid for the full version and still see prompted ads on my timeline which is the main reason I got this app. There are various bugs I have found and a few improvements that can be made: - when scrolling through my Twitter timeline, the scrolling seems like it locks up the gestures on screen and can’t press anything and continuously scroll - can’t swipe back from within a tweet and need to press the back arrow - no option to change browser when opening a link to a website The app is missing some very basic features which almost all apps have nowadays. I really wanted to like this app but there are too many bugs.

Keep updating please. Please keep updating. Please remove ugly splash screen UI, create better icons, update search UI, update messenger push notifications as they don’t work. Keep updating this great app, it has potential.

Good but not great 3.5/5. The UI is pretty amazing, It doesnt seem to freeze, load times are good and its very easy to read, my only gripe is when i scroll with my left thumb it sometimes likes a status that i acroll past. But the kicker is the notifications. I dont get them in real time. I get them all at once. 'Someone's birthday was yesterday' 1m ago paired with 'someone posted a new photo an hour ago' 1m ago. Its pretty annoying and i feel i have tried everything, faster notifications, deleted and reinstall. I hope it changes. That said. Its easier to focus on negatives than positives. Overall a good app but improvements needed.

Was good, became worse over time.. Friendly started as a great app, but has suffered from a slow and steady degradation as time goes on. Image galleries frequently don’t work - you click the first image in a gallery post, and the next image shown is just the next image in your feed, rather than the next image in the gallery. The cursor positioning loupe disappeared several updates ago, which isn’t a huge problem on an iPad with two finger trackpad functionality, but makes cursor placement basically impossible on an iPhone.

Barely Usable. This used to be a great app, but lately it has become more and more unusable for Facebook. Navigation doesn’t work properly with it being very easy to get stuck in a loop where you open an article, go back to a blank screen, pull down to refresh and it takes you back to the article. Dark mode is ignored with all pages remaining white. There are 2 navigation bars with both behaving differently. Reels show as blank but start playing audio and when you hit play again it starts playing a second video over the top of the first audio. You can’t refresh the notifications page. And it has been crashing altogether lately too. I have reported a couple of issues which still exist and I never had response from them. It is now absolute garbage, which is a shame, it was a great application for a very long time.

unhappy. Ptevious version, I could download stuff from Facebook. Now I can’t, and since downloading the new version of Friendly, it seems, I’m forced to choose all sorts of applications that I don’t use when all I want is Facebook. I can’t get past that page that says, add these add these add these apps, why have you tied a wonderful app to all these other sites, which I don’t use?

Good in theory. This app may claim to not track you and implies that it blocks trackers on the app webpages you visit with it however it does nothing to stop all the services you are signed into from loading it seems simultaneously to track you. This is independent as to whether you select any particular webpage when you visit the bookmarks menu (where you may be signed into all your accounts and essentially offering everything to the trackers on wonky serving tray). If the reasons are because the app doesn't use tab containers and/or doesn't disable link prefetching I have no idea but the app is fatally undermines its reason to exist because of it.

It’s been broken for over a month. The app worked great for years but is now broken: you cannot see or navigate to notifications, messages, events, or Marketplace. You can only see EITHER your news feed or your own profile (by changing your home page in settings) but not navigate between them.

Great alternative. A great way to log into multiple platforms.. A few bugs but hey it's free, so can't complain. Keep up the good work guys. Even considering upgrading to the paid version

Yay and nay. This app is so good! I love it so much, it’s so easy to use and it’s fast as well! It’s just like the Facebook app but just a little different! Awesome! but after the last update it just crashes as soon as I get into it😢 please fix this! But other then the crashing I highly recommend this app!

Excellent App. I’ve been using this app for about 2 or 3 years, and I find the app user friendly. It is certainly fast when click on friends to reply or comment etc. I hope the app be successful in the future, to replace FB.

Messages don’t work. You can look at Facebook but not your messages so it’s sorta pointless as the whole reason I want friendly is to keep all my text messages from Instagram and FB in one place

BEWARE - Still has access to photos.. This App has still access to photos even if you denied it. That’s a no go! Deleted it. Do something about it!! I’m not using an app anymore who still has access to all my photos even if I’ve denied you access. ⛔️🚫❗️👎🏻 Update: Thank you for your response, yes I know that, but I’ve quit friendly and other apps who still have access to photos. That’s a no go for me! Sorry. I’ll use the fb app again, and for instagram you can have 5 accounts at once (and with a little trick you can even add more profiles if someone needs that too)

Convenient. Easy and convenient to use, due to having a few accounts for work and personal use, this app makes it easy to navigate between my accounts.

Nice!!! Works just fine.. The thing I love most is that it’s 300mg smaller than the other ap. Occasional crashes, or lags, but it's two/3 apps in one! No need to get "messenger" ap and that's a saving of almost 300meg, it makes getting used to the ads worth it! I thought annoying feed refresh bug was a fb feature! Thanks for fixing!

Great app. Great app especially if you have two fb accounts like I do, I use friendly for my business account and the fb app for personal account

The last update broke it.. The five stars are awarded for when it works. After the last update no pages load.

I can’t send support messages as I don’t use the mail app. The app is broken. The newsfeed shows 4 posts then loops. People tag me in posts where I need to approve them; but I cannot give them a love heart when hold press the like button nothing happens. It keeps saying I have a new message notification but there are no messages? It’s also not updating my messages: I had sent many messages a few weeks ago to one person, but it shows their very old messages from August and not from October this month. So many things are messed up with this new update.

Terrible upgrade!. I was a long time user of Friendly. In the beginning I loved it so much I purchased the add free version, until I started receiving adds on that version. I subsequently downloaded add blockers but they still did not work. I double checked my settings & still I was getting commercials. The latest upgrade towards the end of 2023 has been the worst. Moving the search & notifications area to the top of the app & not being able to refresh the page properly renders the app almost useless. It’s a pity to see Friendly go down this road. I find the current upgraded version unusable. This all could be remedied if Friendly went back to its previous great format in next upgrades.

Too many invasive ads. Initially I found this to be a useful app, everything in one. I didn’t mind the adverts on the side. But now the ads are getting too much, opening their windows and invading the whole screen, requiring me to close them but then they pop up again. Also can’t upload videos onto messenger. So have deleted the app and find it much easier having the separate apps

Awesome 4 out of 5 rate. This app is totally amazing. You do not have to download messenger app for you to read the important messages. It is very smooth and easy to operate. The ads are the only downside of it. But overall worth it to download :)

Facebook Messenger. I initially gave this a low rating because of the inability to change the user agent, to get the Messaging to work in Facebook. After some playing around I managed find an alternate way to change the User Agent, to get things working, so I’ve changed my review and rating. Although a comprehensive help file would be very useful. Thanks.

Excellent Facebook and Messenger Alternative But.... Initally a lot of additional "Followings" suddenly appear based on your previous Facebook experience but you can UNFOLLOW these unwanted posts individually as you come across them to reduce the clutter. Facebook photo uploading is a bit clunky and slow so not as streamlined as the Facebook app but works fine when you get the hang of it. (HINT - You can only upload 1 photo at a time) In the Messenger part each message within a conversation looks like a separate post compared with messenger app but you quickly get the hang of it. Developers note! It's great to have both parts in the one app and the memory saving is enormous - 400MB vs 40MB - YES! Thats right. For an older iphone with 1GB RAM and 16GB memory its almost essential to switch to Friendly and delete the official apps as this will boost your iphone's memory and overall performance. Would have received 5 stars if photo uploading wasnt so clumsy and messenger conversations didnt look like separate posts.

Unable to tag the right person sometimes. When replying to people on the internet posts it doesn’t automatically include their name so you have to type it and frequently the tag choices are other people with the same name but not the person you actually want to reply tag

A few Posts. I only shows me the last few posts as I don’t have friends. I am a very secluded person who has not a lot of friends, most not even on FB. I feel discriminated not to be able to see what others do :(

The perfect way to browse. The perfect way to browse so many jumbled feeds. Without the tracking and company’s showing you what they want to see. I’d rather see it how I want it.

.MadDude.. With this you can log out of both Facebook & Messenger which Facebook App won't allow!! New version is annoying.. The comment box keeps dropping below the keyboard and you can't see what you're typing, Drag the comment box back up and the moment you start typing again it drops back down behind the keyboard :'(

Chat issues. Very hard to type msgs when other person is typing pages flicking while msgs sending...so far I never had any issue but recently very hard to use in chat ...very disappointed

Mostly Good. I don’t actually know how much more private it is than the official app, but it mostly works just as well. I usually am not able to send messages with this app, though; I cannot type in the field. Has glitches from time to time. Paid for the pro version but can no longer access it.

Disappointed. I paid to have an ad free experience but when my phone died and I needed a new one, the purchase I made was lost. I am not paying again

Difficulties since update. Have really enjoyed using the friendly app the past few years. Noticed more crashes and difficulties with showing posts after pressing from notification bar - goes to blank screen. Also can't download pictures as I could previously for some reason too. If these could be fixed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Easy and light on storage. I have been using Frienly for a few years. I love that it allows me to easily flip between my personal profile with family and my business profile that I share with the world.

Nice and lite. Nice lite and efficient app. Non intrusive and has messenger included without having to use Facebooks bloated apps. Some bugs and some image display oddities but the developers work hard to keep it all working. Best of all, no Facebook app needed!

Just open the first time!. Most times when attempting to open the app all I get is a blank white screen. I have to close down the app and reopen it numerous times before actually loading Facebook. I paid to get rid of ads and support this app, can you please fix this issue

The only way to use Facebook. I’ve been using Friendly ever since Papers was discontinued by Facebook (for being too nice, apparently). Friendly is superb, the developer is constantly updating and refreshing it, and I prefer using this to even the desktop browser for reading Facebook. Grab it now, you won’t regret it!

Facebook video issue. When watching a video on Facebook, you hear audio but only have a black screen until you press play. Then it starts the video with audio, so you're hearing the audio double/ overlapping. This makes all videos unwatchable because the audio is a big jumble. Please fix this so that you only hear audio when actually playing the video.

Doesn’t work anymore.. Loved this app but it doesn’t work anymore. Wont detect videos on IG at all anymore no matter what fix I try.

YouTube. Still can't login to YouTube, and shorts player is very bad

LOW QUALITY DOWNLOADS. The quality of the video id like to download isn’t HD anymore.

No longer works with Facebook. Used to work decently but for the past 6+ months the navigation bar at the bottom of the app has been missing for Facebook. Reinstalling the app fixed it for a day then gone again Now it doesn’t work at all for Facebook as fb are blocking it and you get a prompt to use a browser or official app Changing user agent lets you bypass the above but the feed is broken and only shows content from random pages that you aren’t following. No friends no followed pages.

Can't Access URL tab or Apps/settings button. For the past 3 months, I’ve been facing an issue where I can’t access the URL tab cause it’s above my iPhone's notch. I thought it was a bug in my phone, and I got a new phone last week, 15 pro max and the same issue. I still can’t tap the URL section to do anything cause Dynamic Island is above it; it’s terrible and unusable now cause I’m stuck at one site. Before three months ago, whenever I had this issue, I just refreshed the page by pulling it down, and it used to fix the problem, but not anymore.

Decent App. Decent app. Takes up a ton of data, esp if you don’t think to turn off auto play for videos. Has a few quirks like can’t play voice messages in Messenger, but all around serves me well.

Suddenly doesn’t work for Facebook. I loved this app, which I picked after getting tired of sharing too much with the same big corporations. But suddenly it’s not working 🙁 with the message, “This browser is not supported.”

Broken much of the time. I used to rely on Friendly for Facebook. Now, I barely open it because it drops features depending on the time of day. Example. I checked and found, from the bottom menu bar, that I had a message. I read it and responded. I arrived home and wanted to check if my cousin had messaged back but, for no reason, there wasn’t a bottom menu bar and no access to messages (or the other typically present option). This happened yesterday so I updated the iOS on my phone and restarted. I can’t do that every time I want to check for messages on Facebook. I sent a request for assistance yesterday but, at last check, no answer.

Everything sucks after update. Video doesn’t play, messaging doesn’t work, everything is slow, selecting Likes icon doesn’t work.

Crashes. The app crashes a lot and you’ll have to delete and install it back. The new version is really bad.

Horrible.. Always has glitches, repeats the feed continuously and the worst app I’ve ever used.

Facebook is broken on this app.. Looks like this app is no longer maintained and it fails to load Facebook correctly. It started several months ago when I purchased the premium version of of this app.

No more messenger. I hadn’t updated in a while and would use this app cause it conveniently has messenger built in After updating, it now asks to download the messenger app. Also now it looks like a low quality rip off of the original fb layout whereas all the menus and stuff looked pretty nice before (activity log looks horrible)

It used to work well. The new version looks like I’m just on safari, I cannot sue messenger anymore.

Too many bugs. It used to work well but it no longer is usable on iPhone and iPad.

Very lousy app. Besides from the app randomly logging me out every few times I open up a different page, the terrible loading times, obviously the annoying crashes at some times, pressing on stories can make the whole page refresh randomly, you can’t just backpage to return where you were before you clicked, it’ll just completely refresh everything, viewed stories are all unviewed after refreshing the page, videos play badly, and too much more to write.. I’ve had this long enough to recommend you not installing this, uninstalled right before this review

Used to be good. Used to be a 5 star app now doesn’t work to download videos at all. Always says no video/photo detected. I’ve emailed in 4 times about the issue and no response at all.

Slowly improving. Starting to get back on track. Ad blocking in Facebook much better and no display glitches now. Unfortunately it’s still quite a battery and CPU hog - my phone actually gets hot while using it (the only app that seems to do that). But moving in the right direction otherwise.

Needs a Update. It used to be my app of choice for Facebook, but it’s badly in need of a update. Ads are no longer blocked, and the screen jumps all over the place when scrolling thru the feed.

Not working properly. I love this app, but there just be a glitch. I can’t download any of my own Instagram reels and videos. Which is why I wanted the app. And reached out to customer service multiple times with no answer. Too bad. It could be a cool tool to use for my business. Don’t download it.

Friendly …are you kidding me ??. You’ve sold your soul to the parent. I initially downloaded your app as the lighter option to the bloatware FB and Messenger are.In fact, initially, it was called Facebook light until you change the name to Friendly now it’s anything but friendly it used to be you could navigate to just about anywhere that you could using Facebook but now everything’s a chore.Now, every time one looks for Messages they can’t get navigate to that location without being badgered by Messenger to download and employ the parent Messenger app. You’ve turned what wasn’t at one time and enjoyable app to use into a piece of garbage. It’s shameful. 😡and Pathetic !

Don't block any adds. I don't know why this app has a adblocker if the adds keep popping up when you watch YouTube videos.

Notification doesn't work / Paid for no support. Notifications does not work and this app consumes all my battery. Wrote to support, never had answer for a month and I cannot have my money back. Worst app.

YouTube won’t work. I’ve tried multiple times to log into my YouTube account and it’s saying that YouTube will not work because of security risks on browser that issue needs to be fixed

Doesn’t do anything it is supposed to. This apps may have worked in the past, but not anymore. None of the function like blocking sponsored post and stories work. It is basically like login on Facebook on a mobile browser with zero added benefit. Waste of time.

Bring back the messaging option. Lately when I try to use this app it no longer allows me to check or send messages or even notifications. I don’t see how this is upside to how it was from before. There’s no reason to take away messaging and checking notifications. Please make this app the way it was from before because it use to be a good app now it sucks!

Bulky, slow and buggy. UPDATE: Facebook marketplace no longer is supported. Friendly comes up with an error message stating: YOU HAVE NO PERMISSION TO ACCESS THE MARKETPLACE great, thanks! What are the developers actually doing? I let you live on my phone, collect usage data and you’re not even paying rent by providing me with a working app ;-( FB marketplace became unusable and isn’t been fixed for a few months now. Messaging tricky at best and app keeps crashing, becoming unresponsive when on FB.

No Longer Allows Posting on Marketplace. *** Update: Two months later and nothing fixed. Deleted the app today. *** I used Friendly for selling items on a second Facebook account. It was not an smooth process, and often I wouldn’t get notifications from interested buyers for days, but it worked. Until recently. As of a few weeks ago, I can no longer access Marketplace or see my listings. It takes me to a page that says: “Marketplace is best viewed in our mobile app.” I will give it one more update and then delete if nothing has changed.

Pixelated photos and videos. What’s going Friendly? It used to be good, but in recent months, when viewing photos or videos on full screen, it looks pixelated. When I open up the same videos in Facebook, it’s definitely sharper. Please fix it, I use to prefer Friendly because I can write messages without having to go on Messenger. However full screen photos are videos are not ideal now.

Refreshes for no good reason. Refreshes every couple of minutes. I can’t make any headway in reading my newsfeed, because I keep getting sent back to the beginning whenever there is one new post. I’m tired of being interrupted while reading posts, landing back at the beginning, and having to scroll back down past everything I’ve already seen to get back to where I was before the dang thing refreshed. I settle in to read and it refreshes again.

Mostly ok but a few problems. I like this app for keeping my newsfeed current without constantly showing me “popular” posts that I’m not interested in. My biggest problem with this app is that it will freeze and closes automatically almost every time I try to post a reply or send a message. There is no workaround that I have found. If you reopen and try to post again it sometimes will go through but usually will freeze and close again. The only way that I know for sure to get a message/reply posted is to close the app and open it via browser.

Good, but needs improvement. UI is alright, just needs a polish to make it look more clean. 1) Messenger should have infinite scroll, like the native app. A better option would be to have users choose to enable this or keep it the same. 2) When viewing a full size photo, it's a bit hard to swipe away to make it go away. Maybe increase the sensitivity or tweak it a bit to make it easier. 3) Press to save should be an option when viewing photos. 4) When viewing photos, screen goes black every now and then. 5) The arrow that is used for going back to the previous page is nice, but it would be nice to have double arrows next to it. This would be used for going back all the way to the first page, essentially resetting the pages. I'll think of more if these are fixed. This is a decent app but as the title states, it needs a bit more improvement :)

Was excellent until the view changed. Until the past week I would have given the app 5 stars. My Facebook page suddenly changed to the desktop view and I cannot reverse it. My page is so cluttered that it’s not usable. Only about one forth of a photo shows and trying to post is a challenge. I was so desperate to get the default view back that I returned my iPad to factory settings and reinstalled everything. To my chagrin, the desktop view appeared when I reinstalled Friendly. I have no idea what happened but Facebook is unusable. The app had been extremely useful. Hopefully my experience is uncommon.

I’ve gone back to the official facebook app. So this app is basically unusable for me, it makes my iPhone get continuously hot to the point where it could burn my hand or damage the components in my phone, I’ve written to Apple, also to the creators of the app, they even put out a survey in which I made the problem know, and nothing. The app was updated today and still has this problem. So I give up, I’ve gone back to facebook’s official app, as I can no longer use Friendly or Friendly+, furthermore the reason I loved the app which was to have messages in one place without downloading messenger, no longer works.

Awesome App. I’m so glad I came across this app because there’s so many videos on Facebook that I’ve been wanting but couldn’t download or have saved to my camera roll. But THIS APP has been a blessing!!!! It downloads my videos to my camera roll which allows me to place my Facebook Lives on Instagram and/or whatever other platform I desire to upload the videos on. So grateful for this app. Absolutely LOVE it!! Thank you.

Crashes regularly. A lot to like but still very flawed. The ease of use is wonderful. Love that it has security features and can navigate between facebook twitter and instagram on one app. It’s a light app that doesn’t consume my battery nor data. But it definitely needs refinement and some major glitches to be addressed then I’d feel like I got my monies worth. As of now I feel ripped off. When you leave the app, say to copy from another app and return but you have already started to write a post, it will make you log back in and start all over again. It frequently freezes then force closes out just plain force closes by itself.

At least for Facebook, don't bother. As others have said, this app used to be good. For a couple of months (and a few updates within that time), it has become completely useless for Facebook usage. Absolutely nothing works, it's basically accessing Facebook through a mobile web browser that has been stripped of all functionality. Slow, fails to render lots of things, cannot filter anything, cannot download anything. There is no way to publicly contact the developers, no place to report issues. The last several updates mention bug fixes but the app is so broken that it's hard to see what they fixed.

Couple issues. It locks up from time to time and I need to restart the app. I also can't change the times on night mode. Dark mode is nice, but I also feel it could be refined just a little. Sometimes the borders don't fit within the posts, especially on face book. Taking away the borders completely or make them color themed would be way more appealing. Overall though, this is much better and stable than the actual Facebook app.

No recent updates; leaves ads unblocked. We all know that ad blocking is a constant cat-and-mouse game between the platforms hosting the ads and the tools blocking them. Unfortunately, this app seems to have given up the game and no longer blocks ads on several social platforms at all. So sad, because until recently, both “post ads” and “reel ads” were blocked consistently and seamlessly, making the platform actually usable on mobile — without ads and without tracking. I would love to return to Friendly if there’s ever an update that restores the great functionality, but for now I’m uninstalling it.

Data saver. So glad I found this app! I live in a rural area with poor internet service and updating these four monstrously bloated social media apps every other day would eat my data plan in no time. It also addresses one of my biggest frustrations with the official Facebook app - being able to set “Most Recent” as your default feed. Is it perfect? No. Is it better than the frustration of keeping four unnecessarily huge apps updated? Absolutely. I gladly paid to upgrade to the plus version.

This app has become extremely unstable. I gave a good review at first but after the last couple of incremental updates the app is extremely unstable. I have reported multiple problems on the Friendly Facebook page with no response. The latest problem is that the screen content inside the app borders repeatedly flashes white and disappears, sometimes returning and sometimes not. When this happens, the app is unusable. Closing and reopening the app solves the problem temporarily, but the problem always returns and makes the app unusable again.

So much better than FB!. I looooove this app. I only use it for FB, even though it could access other social apps. Maybe I’ll consolidate one day. I just love how you can set your own theme color, stop seeing ads (with a very affordable paid membership), and see more of the content I actually WANT to see. There are some suggestions I have for the developers, but nothing big enough to lower my rating. Its a great app! Get it!

Was a great app then it got updated. It was the best replacement for the Facebook app and even provided some extra special features. I just updated today. The newsfeed seems like it’s a browser page—and I’m fine with that. The main drawback is related to media. It’s very much the Facebook controls now. Forget downloading videos for example. Also, opening an image means you have to go back by refreshing the newsfeed and being unable to continue from where I left off. (I’m only giving two stars because I used to love the app)

Not very good. App seems unfinished even though it’s been around for a while. Awesome concept if it worked properly. Navigation is kinda clunky. My biggest annoyance that I’ve been trying to get around is the fact that I use this to manage customers through Facebook marketplace and it doesn’t push notifications through at all. Thought I missed a setting and after a couple hours of reading others experiences it seems that a lot of people have messaged the developer about the same issues and never got a response. I just uninstalled this unfortunately. I don’t know how people can use a social media app without any notifications until you physically check the app.

After donation: crashes, doesn’t hide ads, can’t sort chrono. Darn, I was really hoping this app would make FB usable again, but I really don’t see much happening. App crashed three times while I was trying to configure settings. Even after my donation, ads are still everywhere. But what really mystified me is there appears to be no option to sort posts chronologically. Really??? My advice: good at FB complaints of the last 5 years and treat that as a to-do list. Make it happen and I’ll give you a monthly donation! That’s how much I want an app that makes social media usable again.

Ok what happened now🤷🏽‍♂️. The app, despite its not being able to upload vids anymore, was still a good means as to have all your social media apps in one spot, but now, it appears that it’s not even functioning 😒. It was working til about ~7:45am (EST) but then all of a sudden, it stopped responding. You click on it to open, and it just doesn’t. I uninstalled then reinstalled the app hoping that would provide the fix, but no. What’s also troubling, frustrating is that as I read the reviews on here, no developer has responded to even give some sort of insight or to just say there’s nothing that can be done, etc and the reviews are like 4yo…that’s truly bad business

There’s always a major flaw or 2. I’m a longtime user of Friendly, mostly just for Facebook. Over the years I’ve tolerated many bugs. One that continues to frustrate me is that hitting the left arrow (to return to the previous screen) more often than not skips the previous screen but to a point at the top of the navigation sequence, requiring one to repeat the original series of clicks. But I’ve tolerated that. Now, however, the icons at at the bottom of the screen (timeline; messages; notifications; other menu items) has disappeared. This may be the final straw. Apparently NO ONE at Friendly bothers to test the behavior of the app.

Kept me from abandoning Facebook. I HATE the political saturation of social media. I was so nauseated by what I saw that I wanted to block some of my own family. I had deleted the Facebook app off my phone and was seriously toying with the idea of deleting my account altogether..... then I discovered "Friendly" not only does it allow me to filter out all the political posts and mud slinging, it also allows me to block ads something that is also very important to me. I will never go back to the official Facebook app. Thank you for this app. 🙂

Facebook app alternative!. It’s great as a Facebook app alternative. The annoying problem is the “…more” links. They’re supposed to expand the text to let you read more… but the links are so small, most “clicks” end up opening the whole message to a new window, which is pretty slow. It would be nice if clicking on or about the more links would just expand the text. It’s a real hassle to slow down so much to aim and just miss at those tiny links.

Thank you!. UPDATED REVIEW: For some reason my newsfeed is no longer showing “show first” accounts. I believe this started around the last update. I just realized I’ve missed at least a week of posts from one account that should be at the top of my newsfeed. Help! Thank you for doing what Facebook won't do and putting messages and newsfeed in one app, and for blocking the excessive ads. My only wish would be that ads show up for vendors I like...I find that I'm missing out on some sales and specials because their sponsored ads aren't getting through. But it's a small price to pay for the many, many other benefits.

This app + Adblock is amazing !. This does what it promises, since my goal was to use messenger and Facebook in one app like old times before messenger even existed. Using this app alone can be annoying for the amount of ads , but used together with an Adblock app a new level was reached. Really looking forward to acquiring the plus version after my next paycheck. Did not test the insta + twitter thing , there might be other bugs. But anyway, my goal was fulfilled. Needs work. I have two major complaints about this app. The first one is that, without fail, If I navigate away from this app to open another app or do something else on my iPhone, the Friendly app stops working. I have to close it and reopen it before it starts working again. The second complaint is that since the most recent update, I can no longer browse the marketplace. I'm forced to search for a specific item, only to be met with haphazard, nearly illegible search results. Please fix these things. IOS 15, iPhone 7.

Great app..Some changes needed.. This is a great friendly user app says in name. However there’s some things that are missing that would be great to add. First add the option to make glyph comments. Also sometimes he app can be slow when it comes to posting. And fix the Instagram interface it’s hard to post photos on there as well. Add Glyphs and fix Instagram. Either than that it’s a great app to avoid annoying Ads.

Still Crashing With 3/31 Update. Still giving this app 4 stars since it helped me solve the storage issues I've been dealing with on my old iPhone. Was able to delete Facebook and messenger which freed up over a gig of space on my 8 gig phone. The app is easy to use, looks great, but has crashed on me 3 times in the 12 hours since I've updated it. It locks up if I'm doing something mundane like scrolling through comments. Once the bugs are worked out I'll be recommending to others! Thanks for an (almost) excellent product!

The app is ok but..... It's a heck of a lot better than the Facebook app. But it's ad engine is getting really annoying with opening the App Store with apps for games while posting in Facebook. It will only be a few more months before it succumbed to ad daemons and overwhelm with dribble. The interface is good and the app is mostly bug free. It does allow leads and hidden hot spots to load in postings to more ads. Now it started pushing targeted ads. Had to delete this app., also battery drain. Just installed the latest version and now I can only view, can't post anything. Great update, what's next filter content and friends? Updated to horrible. It's so bad, I just deleted it. Social Media is now the evil in this world.

User Friendly, Handles multiple accounts with ease. Updated 2018: No crashes. Nice to check multiple accounts and all my private groups. I like the look and feel and flow. I configured it to see posts from only my friends and not distracting news feeds from 3rd parties. I used it in 2016 and 2017 in order to check multiple business accounts and pages. That is where it shines!! I am down now to only 2 accounts now and plan to stick with Friendly. To me, it's far more user friendly than the FB app.

Limited interface and bugs w pic posting and tagging friends. I downloaded this the same reasons most people do to save on space let me take a quick look at the day-to-day happenings on Facebook or Twitter but when I try to post in the app I have so many restrictions between the ads popping up which I understand I have to pay for those to go away. Or the biggest problem where I can’t tag my friends or some of the pictures won’t load so overall this is become useless and forced me to download the four Facebook or go to my browser and login Facebook from the desktop

Great app! One very small flaw.. I’ve had his app for a while. It’s very ideal as I have a personal and business Facebook. It’s very easy to switch between the two. One minor flaw thats been happening in the new update, minor but crazy annoying. While I scroll down, it feels like every time I touch the screen anywhere near the left side it “likes” a post. Before, you could move your finger away and it would unselect the like, now there is no avoiding it. You have to like, then I like it. PLEASE fix this minor thing.

A few tweaks needed..PLEASE 🤞. I like the idea, but it has some interaction problems. My biggest one is that when I'm jamming out my personal music and go into your app it chooses to stop it instead of waiting for me to engage an item in your app that would be what would happen if I was just using my social media apps independently rather than through your app. Please consider fixing this ASAP, I'll continue to peruse the pros and cons and if I like it, I'll let everyone know. It could be cool to be able to share between the different apps, but that might be operator error, if so make it easy that a caveman can do it for me. Thanks.

Data stays private & developers are responsive. It’s a stable secure alternative to sharing all your contact data and more that is required by FB apps and others. Great way to access multiple social media accounts in one place. Social media sites can make changes and if it causes any minor issue with this app, all you do is report the issue and developers are very fast to address it. I normally don’t write reviews and I am not connected to developers or receiving any compensation for this review. This is just an all to rare good app.

Why the updates?. Why mess with a good app? I have loved Friendly for a long time; however, these recent updates are really frustrating. I use it for Facebook and it is MUCH harder to navigate now. Sometimes you can’t get to your feed or notifications no matter what you press. Right now, my screen is frozen so that I can see half of my news feed and half a blank black vertical stripe. You have to use messenger. I am about to delete this and I really HATE the Facebook app!

I like it!. Just a few pros: you can pay for the ads version and if you haven’t noticed lately Facebook is loaded with ads in your feed, so that’s nice. The fact that you can change the background color, is awesome! It makes it more fun to be on the app. You don’t have to have the messenger app like you do on the Actual FB app. You can hide the stories, personal preference but I find them annoying, when a friend posts a selfie in the stories and it’s all you see all day, in this app you can hide that. Cons: I can’t send gifs in the messages through this app like I can on messenger. :( It doesn’t tell me when the message has been read, I have to open up the message to see! It seems to take longer to upload a post or a photo and you have to hold down the screen because if it blinks out, you have to start over again. I still love this app more than the FB one though.

Friendly X App Is What Happens When Nobody Tests the Product Before Launch. I was using the Friendly X app when they suddenly locked me out without any warning. Every time I try to log in, I get the message: “You are temporarily locked out. Please try again later.” I contacted Friendly’s technical support and received exactly zero response. What’s even more ridiculous is that every other X app on the iPhone App Store works perfectly fine—only Friendly is broken. At this point, “Friendly” might be the most misleading app name in the App Store. Locking out users without notice and then ghosting support requests is a great way to lose customers. Save yourself the headache and use literally any other X app.

Wonderful App. I’ve been using Friendly for years now , and is wonderful. I can switch from social media apps with no problem and it does not take up space as the other apps. And from a country where the connection is not as fast as the developed but I can browse well with friendly. But with the recent update I’m not able to see my notifications, search, homepage etc task bar. I updated and it’s gone. Hope they are working on it to restore the options

Makes Facebook enjoyable again!. Pages load so much faster when ads and trackers are blocked. Breeze through those links with ten ‘Nexts.’ It tells you what it’s doing. On one link it blocked a combined 5 ads/trackers; on another 10! I don’t mind an ad as I’m scrolling down but some of these new fangled ads make navigating a page on a phone nigh impossible and Friendly ends all that. Something tells me I’ve seen the end of weekly 250 megabyte updates also.

Has become absolutely garbage. I have been a long time friendly user and at one time,the 4.6 rating was justified. No longer is that the case. The app is absolutely garbage now and there is zero reason to use. No ads are blocked, can't download any videos anymore and the screen dims with no way out if you select any pop-up option. Can't get out of stories or reels without closing the app. Even if you turn off active everywhere else, friendly will make you active. Chat/messenger doesn't work,I get more ads and awful suggestions than even in FB itself. 100% do not recommend anymore. Sad the how bad one of my favorite apps got.

Cool app, not so cool icon 😉. This is a good little app, it makes browsing Facebook far more enjoyable as it removes all of the advertisements and the suggestions, making a cleaner experience. The ability to customize the colors is also nice as is the passcode access to accounts and this takes up WAY less space compared to the official Facebook app. ...The only think I don't like about the app is the icon which looks like a blue happy baby Shrek.... I feel like this makes it appear a little immature and would benefit from a more stylish logo. Other than that; it's a great alternative to using the Facebook app. UPDATE: they have now added the option to customize the app logo! So if you like the Baby Shrek image then you can now change its color or if you don’t like it, then you can replace it with a regular “F” logo 🙂👍

Instagram. I like the app, but i would like to make a wish for the next update :)) the thing is that in instagram part of it the videos are always on mute which is not a big big deal but! The unmute button lays right behind the download button this is why you need to be extra careful in hitting it, only one spot to hit, otherwise it will start to process downloading :) It’d be awesome to move them apart! Otherwise thank you for the app. Appreciate it!

Great idea, unfortunately unusable. The app isn’t really usable in its current state. Many videos and posts won’t load except on actual Facebook, and some of the UI is frustrating (why two different back arrows??). But the problem that made me uninstall is that holding your finger on the screen for longer than the millisecond it takes to swipe triggers the app to select/copy the text from the post (as if you want to copy/paste it). It happens incredibly frequently and is super duper annoying. I keep checking back every couple of years to see if friendly has improved. Wish there was a true FB app alternative out there.

Cant send fb messages unless friended. In general, to spite the amount of ads and broken seams in transition to other sites, I appreciated having access to messages without having to download messenger. Since the updates, you can only send messages to names that will pre-populate in messages. Now, as an example, you can no longer can’t click on the message button to someone you’re not already friends with and send a message. Now, a prompt to download FB messenger is the only place it will take you when trying to do that. Which pretty much defeats the main purpose of why some folks use it.

Only for Reading, No Commenting. There’s no ability to comment on Facebook with this app. The comment field simply isn’t there. You also can’t view or interact with the menu for posts, for example, to hide posts or block the poster. The entire screen gets a gray overlay, but there’s no menu no commands, even if you pinched to zoom Out. So, if all you wanna do is read Facebook and like posts, this app is great. It hides all the ads, it takes care of all those annoying, sponsored, and AI generated promotions, but only as a passive reading experience; there is nothing “Social” about it. And it’s certainly not “Friendly.”

Great until sudden crashes began. I have used and enjoyed Friendly for the better part of a year. I suddenly began having issues with it shutting down when I was typing a comment with the iOS keyboard using the swipe feature. I crashes every single time. It allows me to get a free word into the comment, then freezes like its trying to catch up, then crashes. It’s the only app that does it. Started, best I can tell, with the latest iOS update (13.1.3). Betting this one glitch, I absolutely love the app.

Zero stars. Not sure what is up with this most recent update. The app basically just shows FB as if it’s a browser window. The toolbar at the bottom is gone, but sometimes will reappear. The news feed randomly jumps around showing posts from 2 hours, 2 days, 1 minute, or 10 days ago with every refresh even though it is set to most recent. Stories are the top thing on the fed even though Hide Stories has been selected under feed settings. At least 4-5 ads and 1-2 suggested pages (that are irrelevant) pop up in the first 10 posts. Worse than using FB and having my data tracked, because Friendly is essentially unusable right now. Hate it.

What happened?. This had been the best social media app in existence. Something happened in December that destroyed it with a single update. Despite their attempts at “updates” nothing has improved. Roll back to the December 1, 2023. “Most recent” couldn’t be farther from the truth, it’s a feed of posts at random times none of which are even close to the most recent. The interface changes randomly based on where you attempt to go in the app. Then there’s more ads than actual posts in whatever feed the app attempts to provide. After using this app for +10 years I’m about to remove it from my devices. Very disappointed by the developers.

Will no longer be using.. This used to be a good alternative to the Facebook app because you had a lot of control over most features including a built in ad blocker. But now I can no longer recommend it because the “most recent” feature no longer works so you have to delete and reinstall the app, but when you do they remove the ability to block ads unless you pay for it and ad more ads on top off the normal Facebook ads. I have used this app for a long time and have recommended it in the past but I will no longer be using it and neither are most of the people that I know that have started to use it.

Can a buggy mess be tolerable?. I’ve used this app for years. Not because it’s amazing, but because it was marginally better than the default app. I’m not sure that’s the case anymore. Every update seems to break something major. For example, I used to get logged out frequently. That seems to have been fixed, but now: - I haven’t been able to leave comments because tapping Reply grays everything out. - Uploading pictures takes you to a preview that goes nowhere and so can’t be completed. - Downloading pictures used to work, but now fails more often than not. - It doesn’t lag as much as the default app, but it locks up on a white screen a lot. - It will often auto-refresh while I’m actively reading something. If I switch to another app for even a second, it’s virtually guaranteed when I go back. I’m going back to the native app. It’s not great, but at least I know what I’m in for and features don’t routinely break like with Friendly. 2.5 stars

Friendly Stopped Loading. This App , though it worked well for the time I utilized it, a few years . It apparently will not load a full page in IOS . Also I couldn’t edit posts . I suppose it cannot keep up with Apple updates ? I contacted developer by fb message ,to no avail for replies from them . I am giving 4 stars because it was a previously practical alternative to actual fb app. I hope it can be functional again!
