Good app, but a few issues. I love the way the app works, and the fact that the content is all included and easy to use, but it would be great if it were possible to search all bookmarks, and save content off the iPad since the issues take a lot of space and there is no way to save recipes to a computer for safekeeping.

An update to clear bad reviews. It feels like the ACP Magazines' apps have been updated to hide all of the bad reviews. Instead of sticking your head in the sand why not listen to the reviewers and reduce the price as there is no justification for the outrageous prices. No print costs and limited distribution costs equal an opportunity to increase readership and therefore increase advertising dollars. Yes, you have to change your business model!

Needs a search feature. This is a great App (or, more correctly, this App allows the purchase and viewing of a great magazine) . Would be better if there were a decent search feature (or it one could search through Spotlight) so one could search across all editions. The bookmarks are useful only to a point.

Reader. Interesting stories, great recipes, albeit pricey. Looks fantastic.

Aussie aesthetic at it's finest. Thank you from NYC!

Should be free for existing mag subscribers. The online iPad version Should be free for existing hard copy magazine subscribers... Doesn't really give you this month's issue to "see how the mag looks". You still need to purchase at $5.99 per issue. Good idea to complement my mag subscription but not when you have to pay for both versions.

Excellent online features. One of the few Magazines that takes advantage of all of the IPad's features

Not a free app!. Publishers need to take a clue.... Is 5.99 in Australian dollars which are much much different than USdollars? I deleted app. It shouldn't be in free app.

Don't save your favorites. This is a fantastic magazine offline. Online you have to manually type in recipe names before saving/bookmarking. But when they upgraded the app, the hours I spent saving recipes were all wiped. I had to restore all my purchases, without the bookmarks. I contacted the magazine who pretty much said their clients would all have to start over. Not wasting my time again only to have it happen during their next upgrade...

U.S. subscriber -- Superb. Best Executed.. Excellence in an App. I have been a subscriber for the last 2 years, and to most all ipad based, top food magazines written in english and italian. Our large US food magazines are still trying to balance content (generally a theme around bacon) and the technical abilities of the App (failed recognition of subscriptions, no downloads, flat content etc)....take note...this is the world-class model. Well done. If you're a true gourmet, home chef, love food & wine, are a traveller who saveurs the finest with a bon appetit, look no farther. Even if you want to see excellent execution of an ipad published document of any sort - this is the best I have come across.

Lovely Magazine. I have absolutely fallen in love with this magazine. All of the features are always interesting and well written and beautifully photographed and the recipes found in each issue are always well written and look delicious. If you are looking for both home friendly easy recipes and more challenging recipes straight from a restaurant chef then you can find both here. Gourmet traveller has also been the most interactive and user friendly magazine I've downloaded so far - there are videos included in every issue and the interface is extremely well done. If you want a high quality magazine that you aren't going to get bored with in five minutes and will refer to repeatedly, then give this one a try. Also, everyone is saying this is an expensive magazine but, if like me you live halfway across the world (USA) from Australia, then the thought of finding a way to buy it then have it shipped here monthly is a far worse thought.

Lovely way of discovering cuisine. Beautiful pictures, lovely recipes and in general very straight forward directions in how to cook them. Overall a good starting point for the home chef

Lost in Space. Well I liked the magazine and was willing to pay for it, but the last time I attempted to download an issue I lost all but one of my purchased issues but one, and that was an old one, not the one I had just paid for. Never did get that downloaded. No matter how many times I hit "restore purchases" nothing was restored and the issues are floating around somewhere in space between here and Australia. And the issues do cost way too much.

Terrible App not functioning!. So frustrating.... Love the magazine but this app continuously crashes and shuts down. Can't get past 2 pages and it crashes. I've wasted too much time trying to figure out issue. Will be canceling subscription and need a refund. Terrible app seriously... What a shame.

Amazing. Love print but one look at iPad version of this mag really makes me want to subscribe digitally. App maximises interactive features and allows you to see all images (most) large. Incorporation of video is also great. It is the best magazine app I've seen so far.

Better than freighting a hard copy to the States. To read this magazine I'd normally have to subscribe to the paper version & have it shipped from Australia to the US. I appreciate that I can buy it electronically from this app. The navigation took a little getting used to but once I got the hang of it I quite liked it.

Useless. It would have been useful to know that downloading the APP does nothing more than give you the OPP to buy the magazine. Couldn't get it off my home screen fast enough.

like it. BUT I agree with the others that it's misleading to say it's a "free" app. They should be up front like the other mags and say what it really costs. Otherwise, I like it and prefer mags on iPad not on paper

Don't waste your money. $5.99 per issues is way too much money for an electronic format magazine

Love this!. There are some magazines that just don't translate well from the print issue but Gourmet Traveller is not one of them. The pictures are awesome; the articles, brilliant and the recipes, simply divine. As this is one of my favourite mags, to have it on hand wherever I am is a real treat. I used to tuck the print issue away in my bag (it's my staple carry-on reading matter) and curse when I'd forgotten it but now, it's always with me regardless of where I am. The cost of the in-app purchases are negligent and since the e-version is less than the printed version it's an even bigger bonus.

Beautiful. My favorite food mag. Love the images and recipes.

would give no stars if I could. The new format in the September edition is awful. Not interactive, diffucult to manouver around, unable to link to articles from contents or index. Seems like some of the articles are greatly reduced.

Greatest App Ever. I love this app. It's so cool and now that I can purchase a 6 month subscription, it works out cheaper than the hard copy subscription cost, which is the way it should be. I haven't had any problems with new issues downloading. For my 2nd & 3rd issues, I received a notification message that the issue was available and it downloaded without any problems. It is such a great concept to have copies of your favorite magazine available to carry around with you - and the iPad weighs about the same as one hard copy edition!! The app is very easy to use once you get the hang of it and the added interactive features are great.

Good App, renewal answer. I had the same problem with auto renew, but found out how to fix it. go to settings on your device. Tap on Store then tap on your apple ID. Tap on Manage Subscriptions in your account settings and select your desired subscription period. You can turn it on and off. Other than that glitch, I rather like the mag on the iPad. Most likely will continue as a subscriber.

Bring back the dinners. Hello I’ve been a subscriber for over 30 years and always enjoy my monthly editions. One of my favourite was the Gourmet Traveller dinners. It was always the best opportunity to experience a new restaurant or experience at its best. I would love to see them back! Silvana

Why?. New update is terrible. Can't open the Sept 17 version for more than 30 seconds without it crashing, and in those 30 seconds before the crash, it is almost impossible to change pages. I have been a subscriber to the e version for 4 years and will be discontinuing if this isn't fixed.

It's food porn, but I read it for the articles.. I have subscriptions to food mags from around the world and this is by far the best. Best photography, best mix of idealistic and realistic home cooking, new ideas, classics, corny die-hard food dork commentary. It is jam-packed, good value for money compared to many other food mags which end just as they get going. Negs: Reviews are a bit like boiled zucchini and there are tech issues from time to time but updates tend to fix them.

Great Gourmet. After Years of being asked to cull my collection of Gourmet Traveller magazines, I am finally able to purchase without any guilt. The application is easy to use and and the Recipe Index is great - no more flicking through a whole magazine looking for the dish that looked Devine. I love the video demonstrations as well. Now just need the app to add ingredients directly to my online shopping list and preheat the oven.

You broke it again. After reverting for an all too brief period to the user friendly, interactive version of the app that I loved, the April 18 edition is once again little more than a PDF of the magazine. Disappointing and hugely frustrating.

Loving it.....but!. I really love having GT on my iPad as it is so easy to use. However it seems the use of video prevents you popping on your headphones and listening to music from your iPad while reading the latest issue. The video graphics really aren't necessary and it seems as though it is just for the sake of it. Something to work on and don't get too carried away with the bells and whistles.

Downloads. I too have had problems downloading the last 3 months. The first 10 were fine. The disappointing thing is when I contacted the subscription department I had an excellent conversation with one of the people in there, who although wasn't a techie would make enquiries and someone would contact me that afternoon. That was 3 Fridays ago. Not caring for customers is the fastest way I know of losing subscriptions. Although the production values are excellent, support is what will keep people loyal. We all know technology is not infallible. The market for this type of product is crowded and rivals have offerings just as good, eg Cuisine

New subscription nowhere to be found. Very good at automatically charging for the new subscription, yet when I go to download the next (new) magazine release which I've paid for already, it's nowhere to be found. Not happy as I've paid a yearly subscription which I can't access, as I'm being asked for payment per issue when I go to download. Ridiculous!!

Would give minus stars if I could. Download and keeps asking for ‘secure connection’ and won’t download new or old purchase. Preview has gone. Terrible organisation. “Not happy Jan!”

Broke it again. Just when I thought it was safe to renew my subscription, you have broken the app again. It is back to being a PDF, not the interactive magazine that I loved.

A cut above usual. Few other food magazines take the care that has been evident in Gourmet Traveller over the past year or so. While not every issue sets the benchmark, many of them do. The combination of time-based graphic whimsy with detailed and in-depth prose makes for superior quality that a number of their competitors should emulate! This magazine makes better use of the format possibilities that the Web provides than most other print to Web food publications. This, coupled with good insights and writing from leading food professionals and aficionados in Australia and abroad makes for a great Australian and international magazine.

great magazine poor download. i love Gourmet Traveller magazine, and purchased the magazine monthly when living in australia, now that i am living overseas i still get my monthly fix. Such a shame that the program is so clunky, i have a very fast internet connection and after 3 days of trying to download 2 issues and getting errors in return, I am getting quite irate! I hope you fix your software issues! and get rid of the adds, no need to be going through pages of Ads that are no use to me, keep it for the print version!

Subscription. Read permission expires after several months and request to renew appear at a cost of $3.99. This is unreasonable for a product that has been purchased already

Love this app !. This is the only magazine I have subscribed to online - I feel the online copy is more interactive and it's much easier to flag recipes I want to cook and find hem easily. Also no dusty piles of magazines to deal with! Also I enjoy the animations and videos - it goes beyond what print media could deliver. Well done GT for a well thought and usable app

Great magazine! Great format!. I was already a huge fan of the paper version of the magazine, but once I downloaded a free copy of the iPad version there was no turning back! I love the extra features you get, not least the indexing and book arming facilities. Yes, it's a large file, but you set it downloading and come back to it when you have time for a good read!

Inspiration. I have loved my monthly subscription of Gourmet Traveller. I open it and am captured by the visual rendering of the cover. I am sure I there was a fragrance with the August French toast!! It is a decadent read, with journeys of the season, beautiful achievable recipes, which ignite my passion for cooking and bringing adventure home to my kitchen. While food is the journey I travel on, I am enticed into visiting a new passion for destinations. I have been home bound due to illness, and sometimes it is hard to capture and hold a dream for "one day" adventuring. I didn't read the travel articles when I first got GT, but now, look forward to each new destination. Making me dream of travel. It has taken me a while to be comfortable with the scrolling of articlels, rather than the page turning with the IPad, but I can carry it with me everywhere, and when the mood strikes, or I need to be inspired, it is my reference.

not really free and terribly slow. To call this a free app is misleading. The reader itself is free but it comes with no free content so surely its false advertising. The magazine web page has loads of free content so why not put some of that on the app to wet the consumers appetite. The other big issue is that it takes forever to download. For the july issue more than an hour. i subscribe to a number of Mags through Zinio. These mags download within a few minutes and also allow you to start reading during the download unfortunately the same cant be said about gourmet traveller. As always the magazine itself is great but the app needs serious improvement

Great e-version of a great magazine. I can't believe that anyone would expect to get this magazine for free. Naive, much? Good value, and I've had no problems so far with crashes or disappearing issues as reported by other reviewers. I stopped subscribing to this magazine a few years ago as I had no more room on my bookshelves so I'm thrilled to be able to buy a digital version. I have subscribed for 6 months and will be renewing if it remains an easy process to download and read.

Gourmet Traveller on IPad. I love Gourmet Traveller in hard copy to the point where my husband is feeling over whelmed by the stacks of them that sit in my studio and on our coffee table -in the kitchen and the bedroom! I was so excited to think that I could have my copy on my new iPad ... And paid the subscription for the first two months ..... a week ago I saw my receipt from iTunes come in via my email - for the next two editions ... April and May 2012 - so with great excitement I opened my iPad to see the new issue ...but what do I find ..the app has the cover displayed - but also has a box with the option to pay for the new subscription even though I have just paid it? So I am not impressed ... I sent two emails to the only help I could find last night direct to the magazine but have not had any email response even though this was promised .... So if you want to play in the eWorld you will have to start talking to iTunes and make sure you accounting is synchronized - I will be contacting them tomorrow when I have a moment. I will cancel my subscription If you cannot guarantee proper accounting and delivery to my Bookshelf properly! And I will be tempted to spread the word .......Beware!!! With thanks Wyn

Improvements have paid off. I first subscribed a year ago and thought it was ok - a nice rendition of a magazine into an app but little in the way of price or design improvement to make it special. One year on and PBL have invested in the format with great results. The pricing is more rational and rewards loyalty, ie the more editions you buy the bigger the discount. (i have chosen 3 month sub). The look of the mag is also better, taking advantage of the app format and making it richer with moving presentations and photos. These are good reasons to come back to the product and I am now looking forward to more innovations.

Great!. Online version of the magazine is so much more fun. I love the videos of recipes and the clips. It is also great because it takes up no room in my cupboard! The photography takes on a whole new dimension on the iPad and looks as though it should, crisp and clean, with great colours that always lose a little something in print. I see no reason to buy a hard copy ever again.

Love GourmetnTraveller. I just love the iPad version of The Gourmet Traveller - I love that when I travel all of my issues come with me - I can read articles in whichever order I choose - browse recipes and enjoy the Travel News, Postcards and Reviews at will. No rush to finish one mag before I purchase the next - no storage problems! Just great! Only down side is that I had to pay more for several older issues I purchased than I pay for the currant ones. Something very wrong there!! Do love this magazine though - gives me great pleasure. Thank you.

Great Magazine. Love reading this on the iPad. Probably actually read more content than I did with the print version. Also like the fact that more video content has been added. On the downside the navigation bar that comes up when tapping at the bottom of the page seems to have changed and is not as useful as in the June issue. Also it would be nice if the online edition came out at the same time as the print version. Overall a great buy.

Love my Gourmet Traveller. I love the electronic version of Gourmet Traveller. Also like that you get a preview of the magazine before purchasing the issue, as many others don't. I often go back to my purchased issues, whilst on my daily commute, for an escape to other cultures where life is so inextricably linked to their cuisine. The electronic version is very easy and intuitive and love using the bookmark feature to quickly reference all my favourite recipes or articles.

Permission to read EXPIRED?!. I won’t be back. Seriously?

OK. I like the fact I can get it on my ipad as I have a tiny one bed flat and now I dont have to worry about keeping an issue because I like the recipes. I only like the food part of the mag the travel is a total waste and I never read it. The size of the download is large but not as large as some. I find it irksome when we have to update the mag software and it will really irritate me if one of these updates in the next couple of years wont work for my ipad.

The way forward. I've been checking out a few iPad mags lately, and have found varying interpretations of what they should and can be. This one's a great reader experience with some cute touches. Having said that, I almost abandoned the story with the dropping lemons in the Greek issue - you know which one - but they stopped dropping just in time. The only tiny gripe is that page number references don't mean anything (OK, OK, I only found one...) - perhaps use a link instead? Great content in a fab new format!

Unfriendly layout. The new layout is terribly bad and small. It’s very hard to read the recipes now. Looks very much like a copy of Saveur magazine. I’ve complained a few times but have had no response.

Looks fantastic!. I'm really impressed with how this looks on the iPad - a match made in heaven! After working out the navigation, it's really easy to move around the magazine. The bookmarking option works well, and I like the recipe index. I would love to see more video content though - eg, showing some tricker steps of recipes - to really use the iPad's capabilities. But overall, it saves paper and storage space in my little home ;-) and I can keep all my favourite recipes and articles easily.

Standards dropping. This is the comment I made when AGT went digital for the first time. “This is one of the best applications transferring hard copy content to digital format that I have come across. Your IT and design people should be congratulated for providing an excellent user interface without losing the AGT hard copy feel that I have enjoyed for more than twenty years.” Since the change of ownership of the magazine and the very obvious cuts in their budget AGT has become a shadow of its former self. Syndicated articles from elsewhere in the Bauer empire with little relevance to the Australian context, political editorials which are better left to our news papers, downgrading and dumbing down of recipe content all have contributed to my new rating. I have noticed with the replacement of the editor that there has been a slight improvement in content, hence my rating of three stars. From a subscriber of more than 25 years.

Great but should offer cheaper 12 month subscription. I loved the IPAD version of the magazine. It has some neat features e.g. ability to scroll down an article (look out for the little arrow at the bottom of the page that indicates more pages) or to skip those pages if your not interested in a particular article by scrolling across) They should offer a cheaper 12 month subscription.

Complete disdain for your audience/ customers. A completely unreadable (on the intended device) piece of junk. Bauer and the the editorial team should be embarrassed and ashamed.

And back to being just a PDF reader. Great content, but not at all optimised for tablet. It’s quite unpleasant zooming in and out of a magazine page. Was much better when GT made a proper interactive edition.

Something is not right. September issue only downladed after I paid for it.. now I still have 4 months until my current subscription exprires. Terrible update. Not interactive. Feels like a magazine but only on an iPad. If I have next month same issue the subscription will be cancelled. Before anyone starts my IOS is the latest.. it's not my iPad nor IOS..

Pretty good but can be improved. It seems that most of the comments are either complaining that the entire app isn't free, or that it doesn't come free with the print edition. Judged on its merits, it's pretty good. I get a bit lost sometimes whether I'm supposed to scroll horizontal or vertical- this should be more clear. Also it would be nice if old back issues were available for a cheaper price...

Love this content. Great for restaurant ideas and reviews

Beautiful but misses the point. It looks beautiful, and I like the layout with a recipe per page so I could use it for cooking. BUT As a print magazine subscriber I'd like a way to access the app. That could be forgiven however, if they hadn't blocked the ability to share on linked iPads. My partner isn't able to access the content. This is unlike any other magazine app we have downloaded. This is completely counter intuitive to a magazine app - especially one that charges the same as the print version for each edition.

Convenient, improved navigation. Love having all my iPad issues at my fingertips. Navigation much improved from early issues, now much more intuitive. The recipe index is visual, linked, and true to the digital user experience. Now that subscription is available, there's nothing more to ask for. The issues cited by other reviewers in October (straight after iOS5 upgrade) have now been resolved so quit whinging and enjoy the world class app. Can't wait to start reading the November issue.

Greg Mag. I've been reading this mag for longer than I care to remember and the fact that I continue to subscribe says it all. Love the food and travel articles particularly the variety. I may not always appreciate some of the "out there" food all the time but I do appreciate the effort and work that goes in to producing this great magazine.

Is GT the best ipad mag production?. Gourmet Traveller as a print mag is great but GT as an iPad mag is even better. The page setup - where each article has its own identity is much easier to read than the more usual turn-the-page model. The links are brilliant - being able to follow a thought line or line of inquiry instantly is very useful. Being able to zoom in on details is wonderful to a visual bod like me. And then, the clincher, the animated graphics...... With some mags I am still tempted to paper but not GT. Only one improvement that I require - a separate recipe index that works across the mags I have downloaded, or, one that holds my bookmarks across those that I own. Do this for me and your team will earn a box of gold stars.

Great first attempt. Well done, I think it's a great first go. Good to see them get this up so fast and early on in the digital media world. Some of the other reviews cover the criticisms, which I think are valid. I had always assumed this device would be good to allow direct links to websites, companies and especially advertisers, I'm sure they would also love this feature. I look forward to the next issue, fingers crossed they tweak it a little.

iPad + postal subscription. I am an Australian living in Italy. I have your iPad app on my iPad 2. My daughter bought us a postal subscription of Gourmet Traveller for Christmas. We love the new big format. One question, why not give postal subscribers access to the iPad version as The Monthly does? It's a great service and could only be a plus for Gourmet Traveller. Devoted reader, Robyn Sinclair.

Good for browsing but more features needed. I really enjoyed reading the magazine this way. In fact, I prefer reading it on my iPad to reading the hard copy version. I can also imagine cooking recipes using the ipad in the kitchen. However, a few really useful features are missing... BOOKMARKS: the bookmarking feature is really limited... 1. The bookmark list is in a small pop up menu and can't be viewed on the whole screen. 2. The recipes are not listed in the bookmarks by under the recipe title. The article title is used instead, which makes finding particular recipes in the list difficult. 3. There is no way of sorting the bookmarked recipes into lists or folders. 4. There does not appear to be a way of removing bookmarks. Am I missing something here? SHARING: it would be great to be able to share individual recipes, eg by having an email to friend option.

You could be so good for me.. When this app works it's a winner. The addition of iPad specific content is deftly executed and I love having multiple copies of the mag with me wherever I go. BUT... I'm stuck in a doom loop; I'm trying to download the latest version and I get redirected to the purchase screen. I figure my subscription must have expired so I authorise a new subscription and get a message saying I'm already subscribed until April next year, so I try to download the latest version and I get redirected to the purchase screen... So as god as the mag is, it's useless if I can't actually read it. My advice: stick with the paper version until these guys get it right; there's no point spending your money if you can't get hold of the goods.

Fantastic!. It's one of life's little thrills each month when I download my new issue of Gourmet Traveller. It's so inspiring on many levels, the amazing recipes, beautiful holiday destinations & fantastic articles and advice on where to eat & drink always have me planning my next trip or dinner party. The photography and styling always makes it look like you could reach out and touch, smell and feel whatever is in the shot. And yes the download may take a few minutes as mentioned in other reviews but its a whole lot better than having to bin mountains of paper in 12 months time when your issues stack up. It really is a first world frustration so just hit the download button, go and make yourself a cup of tea be grateful for the technology and chill out!

Easy on the eye. Love the digital version of Gourmet on my iPad. Have just been on holidays and had my books, Gourmet T etc on the iPad and could cook from the issues I had on hand. Made some fabulous food. So much easier than taking actual magazines along, and far better for our environment. Beautiful pictures also make it so easy on the eye and I can email recipes to friends who loved what I cooked. Thanks GT!

wish for a searchable database of back issues. Wish list: 1. I have purchased the issue online so would like the ability to also view on my laptop which is synched to my iPad. 2. I have been a subscriber to (paper copy) Gourmet Traveller from 1997 to Dec 2011 and switched to an online subscription because I could not part with a single copy and ran out of storage space. I'd keep the year index issues separate to go through when looking for a particular recipe or inspiration. It would be great if there could be a searchable database that could refer to the year, month and page number so that I could dive into my collection to locate a recipe.

Never miss an issue. As an Aussie expat I appreciate a bit of home, but as another reviewer said, Aus & NZ produce the best cooking magazines in the world, so why wouldn't I want to read them.

New Version of the app is terrible. It now reads like GT have taken the paper version and thrown it up on line. This app used to lead the market. The user experience is terrible. I’m canceling my subscription.

Really beautiful. Love this app, easy to manage, same gorgeous mag

Excellent and Delicious!. I have just moved to Australia and love Gourmet Traveler! I have a subscription on my iPad and I love the variety in recipes, skill levels and presentation! Definitely worth the download, every recipe I have tried I have thoroughly enjoyed!

Amazing. Great app, this is the best app so far, truly 1st class

Great magazine.. I've moved abroad a few months ago and this is the only food magazine that's kept me close to the Australian cuisine. Thanks

Great magazine, great app. Love this magazine. High quality, beautiful photos & wonderful food. Terrific mixture of the two things I love best - travel & food.

Great Maagzine. Amazing recipes and updates on what is happening on the food scene. The pictures are fantastic.

Disappointing customer service. I have a subscription and have been unable to download my paid for magazines. Contacted them over a week ago and nothing. Waste of money

excellent. As an expat Australian I love to download each new issue - my little piece of home. Top quality in print and on line.

Best iPad mag. Living overseas.....The GT app and monthly mag are not only a great deal..But instant. And I don't have to store the paper copies anymore. I love it and tell all my friends whenever I can in Canada, and elsewhere.

Always Inspirational. I've loved Gourmet magazine for 30 years. I love that it takes me traveling through food, but can also always count on it to pull me up out of a "what to cook" funk.

A beautiful thing!. I love the downloaded result...it enhances the beautiful editorial standard that sets this magazine apart - on the newsstand and the iPad.

Great magazine. Love the Gourmet Traveler magazine. The apps is very interactive and offers as well a great recipe video. The only negative point I see is that the apps and the issues take lots of storage space which is a bit annoying. Would have preferred it to be a cloud apps with minimal storage on my iPad.
