Tempo Advance - Metronome App Description & Overview

What is tempo advance - metronome app? Approved and used by Mike Mangini (Dream Theater, Drummer of the Year*), Tempo Advance is the metronome app to bring your musicianship to the next level. The new Polyrhythm Mode enables concurrent playback of two meters with different beats per measure, synced on the bar. Find out what any combination of up to 20 beats per measure sounds like.

Retaining the hyper-accurate audio engine from our bestselling Tempo, the UI on Tempo Advance has been rethought to focus on the metronome visual cues.

Auto setlist advancement, accelerando, ritardando and playback tracking makes it possible for you to program count-ins or complex songs with varying tempo, time signatures and rhythms.

Time Tool. In all honesty didn’t want to buy one have an old Boss, but old being old, and having some more convenience in programming different accents for grooves as well as having a good tool to break down polyrhythms, was a great selling feature. Getting back into music as a kit drummer, a metronome is priceless, and this delivers.

Plenty of creative practice options. Having so much control over the beats lets me use the metronome to test and practice my time rather than use the metronome as a crutch. It also has some mixed meter functions that make practicing something like John Adams much easier but I wish it was easier and quicker to make those programs.

Fantastic!!. Being an avid percussionist, this app has been such a vital part of my practice time! I was introduced to the app by my Drumline instructor a couple years ago and have used it almost religiously in the years since! Definitely worth the price!

Can Concur. Like others have said, this is hands a down a great app. You will not need another. I’ve used it for many years. But some of us may be looking for a watch update. I’d pay for that. 😎 With an adjustable haptic amount would be especially cool. Hey Developers, You’ll notice there’s no market for this really. It would be yours for the taking. 🤣

You Don’t have this app what is wrong with you😀😀😀😀. I have. Had this app since its release .. so Easy to use and perfect for Bass/Drummers like me or anyone else who wants to learn how to hang out in groove with out getting lost ...muahaha

Fantastic metronome. Odd division Tuplets? Sure! Super slow/fast tempo? Duh. Road map & save a set list? Easily. This is the best metronome I've ever bought and will likely be the best you will have bought, too.

Love it. I'm a professional (gigs and teaching) and I've used this app for a few years. I love the customizability of sounds, time signatures, beat patterns, etc. it's my go-to app!

Super!. Great app. With just a quick intro from my guitar teacher, I have both simple and complex tempo bits to play with. The flexibility of this app is great. It is well worth the investment.

Missing Tutorial. I first bought the Tempo app which I am able to work just fine. The idea of polyrhythms and more complex timing structure was intriguing to me, so I bought Tempo Advance. Sadly, I wasn't able to understand how complex tempos were structured in a "song" or how multiple tempos were supposed to fit into the song without consuming a huge amount of space. I went over the videos and in app tutorails a dozen times if once. Since I read and use technical manuals on everything from automotive ABS braking systems to ship board systems on aircraft carriers, I expect an extensive amount of detail, but that's just me. I reached out to the company twice by email for help, but never received a reply either time. I suppose if the company is not interested, neither am I. From reviews I see most are able to use the app fine, but to what capacity I have no idea. I'm going to return this app and keep the Tempo app but I am a bit disappointed. What all of this tells me is that the "developer" and the person who "wrote" the app are not one in the same...

Use for click track, but.... Wish it could store songs I input in an alphabetical list from which I could select to create a new set each week. Other than that, this is a very useful metronome

Wow!. The polyrhythm mode is amazing! Really helps clarify both rhythms and my timing for them has never been better since using this app. Also exploring crazy stuff like 7 against 8 in this app is just super fun! Thanks so much for creating this :)

Feature-rich but docs are weak and support non-existent. I've encountered two functions that are not documented. I used their web site contact form but no response after a few days. It may not be a completely finished app, but is a good start.

Won’t let me export the set list. I love this app- but there definitely some bugs for me- the share function has never worked for me- it just say device isn’t configured for mail- which is untrue. I’ve rebooted and reinstalled the app and still nothing- love to practice with it but I’ll never put another detailed song into the app because it’s a waste of time. If frozen ape helps me fix this I will make my review 5 stars

The Best!. I’m a professional drummer and this is far and away the best metronome I’ve ever used. It’s a bit like the top-of-the-line Dr. Beat, but with more functionality. I love being able to change out the sounds, and I really wish I could get Tempo Advance as a replacement for the horrible stock Pro Tools click.

Great easy to use. This has become my go to metronome app. I like the easy of use and intuitive function.

Good for what you need. Don’t get me wrong, this is the best app for a metronome available…with that being said HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU NOT HAVE SPLIT SCREEN AVAILABLE. Fix it. Gigging musicians need cheat sheets and guides for new or first time performances….why split screen is not built in yet is mind blowing to me. ESPECIALLY on the iPad version…..

My favorite met. Literally my favorite metronome that I’ve been using for probably 6 or 7 years. No other met has the options that I love about this app. Between the range of subdivisions and polyrhythms this app is amazing.

Perfect if added a RANDOMIZER. if there was a setting where u can choose what percentage of a change u want from your current beat and/or tempo, that would make this app complete 👽🛸mutate percentage randomizer function pls💚💚💚

Best on the market!. I've used Frozen Ape's apps for a long time because they have always had many easy-to-use features, but the tempo change automation feature is what has made the biggest difference in my practicing.

Everything. Has just about everything you need in a metronome. Great to practice with

Best metronome for traditional music. This metronome allows you to set up incredible combinations of 2, 3 and 4 beat patterns for traditional music, which often has complex time signatures.

User interface. why is the start/stop button so close to where the swipe up motion is initiated?

Tempo Adv. Works Well!. I'm one of those people that has downloaded dozens of metronome apps looking for one that I like the most. I've downloaded some that had cool features, but the sounds were horrible, or the sounds were quality but the app aesthetics were largely underdeveloped. Tempo Adv. has it all; great sounds, features and all of the above. One feature that would make this app even cooler would be a gap click. Overall, I've been very pleased.

Worth the money!. My guitar teacher suggested I buy this app because of its abilities to set and keep polyrhythmic time. The pleasant clave sound of the clicks is a huge improvement over the noises my prior free metronome app made. While it is a bit challenging to navigate and has many more features than I will likely ever need, the ones I use regularly have proven to be well worth the small purchase price. Musically I have improved by using this app.

Great app! But complicated.... I use this app almost every day, would highly recommend it. I gave it 4 stars, and would have given it 5 if there was an easier way to hide the complexity. I only use the standard one click per beat metronome, but all the advanced features are right up front and I have to tip toe around them to make sure I don’t accidentally press a button the gets the app into a state that is hard to back out of. And I would add that I could use some of the advanced features for sure but they are hard to figure out, so I don’t bother.

Been Using It for Years. I use this app regularly. Although I’ve been using it for a number of years, I only just now took advantage of the automated tempo-advance feature. Very helpful for bringing a guitar version of a fiddle tune up to speed. (Actually it was a transcription of a Michelle McLaughlin piano piece, but you get the point!). This app and the “Anytune Pro” app have been VERY helpful with my transcription work.

Would be nice to have a sort function.... Love this app, and use it regularly, but...I have a Master setlist that has all the songs we play at church. I pull songs for a weekend service into a separate setlist from my Master setlist. Having a sort function on my Master list would make it so much easier to find songs, and eliminate duplicates. Still, all-in-all, a great app!

Absolutely phenomenal.. This app is the smartest decision you could make if you want to move forward as a musician. It allows you complete creative freedom, yet keeps you in line perfectly. 10/10 would recommend

Definitely solid, and more.... And I agree wholeheartedly with Phelan’s review. It’ll do anything you want/need it to - I really wanted to like other metronomes. But Frozen Ape metronomes are just more solid- don’t crash and work right all the time. And also- per $money?... get the Tempo app if you don’t need this much subdivisional horsepower. Maybe START working on your subdivisions and poly rhythms if you haven’t, with this! Happy subdividing dudes!

The best out there.. Been using this app since 2009 or 2010 on tour, in the studio, and in the practice room. It’s still the best. Powerful features (subdivisions 1-20, setlists, automatically advancing/changing tempos) and beautiful, intuitive interface. No other app has that combination. Still use it for everything after all these years.

Great app!. Well thought out. It appears to have much more capabilities than I need. Love being able to name the different tempos and time signatures for my original compositions. I recently tried creating polyrhythms and found that the app is intuitive and easy to figure it out.

Hiccups during gigs!. I like the capabilities of this app, but three separate times during my rehearsal tonight it had a hiccup a couple of minutes into playing and I had to play the rest of the song with the click on the off beats. This happened on three of eleven songs. I had the phone in airplane mode, was using Bluetooth headphones. iPhone 11pro max. Latest iOS update. Please fix or tell me what settings to change to prevent hiccups during gigs.

Great. I’ve used this for years now. Great metronome only wish that it had the feature to airdrop to my iPad set list.

Still needs work but worth supporting. Yeah it’s good and has lots of potential, but the interface is not very user-friendly and the tutorial is cursory at best. I don’t know why they can’t put together a decent manual that you can download from the website.

Love the app but where are the click track functions?. The app works great. Period. As a full function metronome, multimeter, and even polynome with subdivisions it is excellent. But seriously, Mike Mangini doesn't play tracks that stay in the same meter for the entire tune. For no other reason than Mike's sheer brilliance the app MUST include (in a future update) the ability to add multiple (infinite) measures with independent meter, tempo, accents, etc... Thank you for making an awesome app. Well worth the $ and I'll use it a TON to replace the popular Metronome app I have been using. Please think about the click track function! Peace!

Speeds up and slows down. So, I'm not totally convinced that I'm having this issue because of my phone, as this app has done this before on a separate phone, but there seems to be a problem where the tempo doesn't always stay steady. It's noticeable during practice sessions where the tempo will seem to fluctuate slightly, in that it slows down by just a small margin and catches back up after a few beats. I used to think this might be an issue if there are multiple apps open that tax my phones processing power, but it seems to do it no matter what. I have other tempo apps that I use regularly that don't do this, but this app does. It used to be fine, so I believe there was a past update that came with a bug that needs to be addressed.

Are you kidding me?. Great features, but way too hard to adjust tempo on the fly. Why do they give us tiny buttons for changing the tempo? It’s easier to accidentally change the meter. What kind of animals do they think we are? Enlarge the plus and minus buttons significantly and I will change my rating to 5 stars.

You'll not need any other!. I teach drums as well as session work and this does everything I need it to. The timers are awesome! I especially like how it is not tied to notation but instead beats per bar and subdivisions. Which means learning a groove in 5/16 the trying to hear it as 10/8 is very easy to configure. Or highlighting clave or other ostinatos to practice over. The other apps are limited to just the meter and subdivisions they have preprogrammed. Just get it. $3 vs $130 I spent on my Dr. Beat 15 years ago is just a better buy especially since it outperforms everything out there.

Perfection👍🏻. Gotta say you guys have honed this to perfection with the polyrhythm's feature. Keep goin with it boys! Maybe add the ability to increase/decrease/constant tempo with decimals. Sometimes I feel like the difference between 214 and 215 is too great. Decimal numbers would create a smaller increment to walk one up nicely to the whole numbers

I wish these tools existed 35 years ago.. This has helped immeasurably with getting a better feel for beat subdivisions like 16th note "triplets", 32nd notes, and beyond. The pendulum metronome was all I had years ago, and not being another Mozart, or Mangini, I really could have used a tool like this. It has helped my guitar practice like nothing else.

Tempo program more useful. I got the regular Tempo program but I didn’t like the digital voice count in. Aside from that I really like the regular Tempo program, especially the bar tracker. I bought the Tempo Advanced app hoping it would give me more control, in particular over the count in. Lo and behold... it doesn’t even have a count in... so I paid money for an app by the same developer that’s supposed to be an advanced version, but in fact gives me less! The regular Tempo app is simpler, less cluttered, and more useful. Don’t fall for the Mike Mancini hype. Just stick with the regular Tempo app.

A couple issues but AMAZING. I use this for guitar exercises and it’s absolutely amazing. It’s also awesome for writing music. I feel though as the iOS for Apple has updated I’ve noticed a few hiccups. I use the increase in tempo a lot and it seems that when it’s increasing automatically when it gets to the 3 digit numbers (100+ obviously) only the first 2 digits of the number show up...so say when I go from 95bmp then it bounces up to 100 it only displays 10. And say 115 looks like 11. Not a huge deal and I’ll work around it but I wasn’t sure if you had heard of this and were trying to fix it! Just letting you know! The other issue has seemed to resolve itself with a new phone purchase but the tap tempo action was causing the app to crash, but it seems fine now!

And more!. This is a great app! Many many uses and easy set list management. Definitely would recommend to any beginner or pro.

Tempo Advanced. I use this metronome app frequently for my own practice as well as during teaching individual lessons or coaching chamber music. It is reliable and the sound is strong and pleasant. The only caveat is that it opens the polyrhythms inadvertently quite frequently which means I have to stop and take the steps to cancel it. The other issue is that it will revert to 160 without touching anything. If they could build in a way to keep it from doing those two things that happen with a slight touch I guess then I would give it five stars.

Great for percussionist. I really love tempo advance. Even when you turn off your iPad or go to another app it is still there. I give this a five star for a good reason

Speed up feature. Love this metronome! The speed up feature really is practical and great for learning music slowly then gradually speeding up. 👍🏽

My favorite. I've explored a number of metronome apps. Tempo Advance is my all time favorite. It's so easy to add subdivisions of the beat with one swipe and it is very flexible. I love this metronome.

Excellent. I am a professional musician and have been using this app for at least the past 5 years. It has all that I need and it works when I need it. The updates to various iOS have been without a glitch. A very dependable and easy to use product. Congrats to the team!

Stylish. This app is amazing. I was a big fan of the previous tempo app and this one does not disappoint! Powerful, in addition to a visually pleasing and well-organized interface, which is bundled with the ability to make your own themes.

Great. I use it only in the simplest settings and the only thing I could wish for would be a feature where the metronome could be set to skip bars. I like to practice keeping a steady tempo and having the click lay out sometimes. That’s the ultimate test of your time I feel. But I haven’t found another app that does that. Oh and Siri integration would be great “hey Siri increase metronome speed by ten beats”. Anyway great app.

Best metronome app!. Love this app, I recommend it to all my students. I always use the bpm automation to build up speed for different exercises, the set-list function is great too

Look No Further. I never leave home for a gig without this App. Easily the best tempo App available. I've trusted it for years now, and it has never let me down.

The best. My go to metronome app!!!

Well worth every cent. Fantastic app, allows for multiple ways to practice

Fantastic. Fantastic app. Wouldn't go one day without using it in my practice sessions - professional musician's best friend.

Great app. Very easy to use much better than the first one

Brilliant update. This was pretty good before, but a monster update has made it really, really good.

Wow!. Such an amazing app! Thank you so much! Would recommend to any and every musician!

My core practice app. As a professional jazz pianist, Tempo Adv is my go-to for practicing all my daily scales, arpeggios, patterns and tunes. I couldn't live without it. It's helped me develop strong time to play with the world's best musicians on stage.

A very versatile, powerful metronome.. Highly recommended!

Great tool. I use this professionally as a drummer. You can store set lists for different artists and customise just about everything in this app. Great features for me are: - Copy and paste songs from one set list to another - Easily shuffle the order of a set list - Backup setlist from iTunes - Name everything - Nice sounds If only there was an iPad version, that would top it all off. Thanks for a great tool.

Wonderful!. This app is wonderful. Great feature set and well designed. The only feature I’d like to see is ability for metronome to switch off/on for a few bars at random so one can test his/her own internal metronome.

Updates were way to drastic. You lost me.. Man, I had all my gigs and sets all programmed into your metronome for live shows. I chose your metronome specifically because of the old interface layout and ease for which I could use it on a gig. Now you've gone and totally changed the layout, I can't use it. I already have another metronome that does all your fancy improvements (in fact it looks exactly the same as one of them - good luck not getting sued for plagiarism on that one!). And the sounds aren't that good either. On a positive note, it's now become a good practice metronome but for live use - the layout is not gonna work. Pity... Oh well.

Difficult interface. I thought the old design was more simple and easier to use. But my main issue is the setlist. Its become difficult to organize my setlist, and the buttons to change tempo are still too small and make it difficult to change the tempo mid-session

Good product.. Excellent metronome, the only thing to make it better would be a MIDI out or even audiobus.

Seriously great.. I've always loved this app on my iPhone, but now with iPad support it's even better. The UI looks great, the theme choice is pretty cool, the bar counter/timer feature is useful, and it's easy to set up a gradual speed up/slow down. Also, POLYRHYTHMS. I've looked for another metronome that plays polyrhythms, but I couldn't find one. There may be another, but I doubt it's this good. This update just introduced polyrhythms out of nowhere with an update! Love this app, I can't see why anyone would get another metronome app at this point.

Great Metronome!. For only $4 (Aus Dollar), this metronome has a exstensive variety of features and the ability to now select the divisions of each beat (as well as create many different divisions by silencing some of the divisions) makes it a very versatile and capable metronome. Usually I would expect to pay over $50 for a digital stand-alone metronome of this quality so it's a great bargain and is updated often!

Great and accurate metronome. This metronome is great, I use it regularly for my guitar practice, there are lots useful features such as dual metronome that can play simultaneously for complex beat patterns, polyrhythms and odd time signatures, especially useful if you’re a drummer. Program a clicktrack to speed up or slow down, useful for scales and arpeggio practice, create your own playlist and much more. If this is good enough for Mike Mangini, then I think this will be good enough for most of us.

Great!. Easily the best metronome you'll come across for $4.99. So many features and does not lag/speed up, like many other metronome apps. Definitely worth the purchase!

Love it:). Has never failed me. Lot's of options within a clean interface. Excellent performance. Well worth the purchase

Great Reliable Metronome.. Does what it says in an easy to use manner. I wouldn’t look anywhere else. The odd meters are great too if you’re a prog or jazz player looking too tighten up your odd time chops.

Highly Recommended. Highly recommend for musicians of all levels

Totally slick. The perfect metronome. Every musician needs this app.

Solid easy to use metronome with great features. Some of the more advanced stuff like programming multimeter sections or accelerando passages are tedious and the polyrhythm feature doesn’t land on 1 together but the core metronome is excellent and very easy to use

Well done. Good app, works as expected, great for setlists

Worth the money!. Most useful and versatile metronome I've used. Great for teaching and more complex exercises

Awesome update!. Thanks for adding two track polyrhythms! As a drummer, this metronome just became so much more useful. Love the new interface too. Definitely a 5 star app!

Very Detailed. Excellent.

Good for gig. Takes some getting used to, but now that I know how to use it it's perfect.

Wicked metronome!. The perfect app for what it is. Does everything you'd expect, really really well, and the setlist feature is brilliant! As a drummer I use it constantly!

Great app Facebook integration annoying. I love this app but hate the Facebook integration. Option to remove this would be nice.

Replaces my $100 metronome!. This is SUCH a great app, I decided to write my first review after buying numerous apps! In a nutshell, this app is so great, it will replace my Tama Rhythm Watch, which costs about $100. I'm a drummer in a band that gigs, and I need numerous functions, especially the ability to STORE and easily recall tempos, so I can quickly get the tempo for the 'next' song. This app not only supports programmable memories, but features MULTIPLE set lists. What I've done is set up a "master set list" in alphabetical order, then for each gig, I can create a separate set list, and COPY the songs and adjust their order. This was a chore with my $100 Rhythm Watch AND that thing only allowed 30 presets. This baby stores 100 songs per setlist! Many other features, such subdivisions, accents, numerous time sigs, bar counter, reference tone (tuner), visual and audio tweaks galore, etc. I researched tons of metronome apps, and this one shines head and shoulders above the rest.

Great app. I use this app all the time for my chamber choir. I can enter all the pieces for an upcoming concert in order and cycle through them to practice the tempos. I can also use it at practice to ensure that I'm setting the correct tempo. Well done!!

A real pro app. Subdivisions, any way you want it

BPMs keep switching. I'm really enjoying this app - well done! I'm just having a problem with my track bpms being switched. Setting them is no problem, but they keep being reversed with each other. Is this a glitch or am I missing a step?!

Love it. As a professional musician I have to say that Tempo does everything I need it to and more.

It sure is a metronome!!. It clicks in time so that’s good. The initial layout is pretty clunky, I have no idea why they made it look like archery practice, but once you figure out the layout it’s okay. I think more time should have been spent on functionality rather than making a fancy GUI. I mostly use my metronome apps for teaching and I can already foresee the new layout confusing the younger students at first, but that’s not too big of a deal. On my phone the tempo drag can only drag to faster tempos and can’t be dragged to a slower tempo while in the vertical screen. I’m sure it’s just a bug with the iPhone4 so I’m not too worried about it since it drags tempos fine in the horizontal screen mode. It would be nice if you could remove the preset/setlist screen, or have it in a different mode. Say if you had a “gig” view you could toggle that would go directly to the set lists so they wouldn’t always be in view. It would also be nice if you could set the "gradual speed-up" and “timer” options how you wanted and then it would be able to turn them off and on at the top of the screen rather than having to go through the options menu for each to toggle them off and on. Another thing that would be great is if the timer function could be reset when you stop the metronome. It seems weird to me that you have to wait for the timer to reach zero before the timer resets. Say you start the metronome too fast for what you wanted, when you have the timer running, and now you wanted to start all over again. Too bad because the timer will stay on whatever time it was on when you stopped the metronome and you’ll have to wait for it to “zero out” before the timer is at the full time you wanted. All in all in lights up and beeps in time, but the layout is kind of funny. Is it worth $4? Not really, but it has the functions I needed so I had to pay for it now that the functions I needed are no longer on the cheaper version.

Perfeito para os bateras. Aposentei o meu metrônomo TAMA! Esse é muito melhor!!! Além do mais o volume de saída é bem alto, suficiente pra não precisar de amplificador para fones de ouvido!

Pretty good. I was hoping there would be a bar/signature time counter. They should put that in

The best metronome app. It’s super easy to customize the metronome to what you need; there are a lot of varieties of sounds for the click and it’s really easy to program subdivisions! I love using it for teaching students to play to the metronome.

Perfect. Gets any job done.

Tacky. Controls are hard to figure out and impossible to use. It can't decide whether I want 30 or 230 bpm. Buttons difficult to understand and no 'tap' feature that I could find. My $40 Boss met. outperforms this app.

Great tool. Finally a metronome which will do all the different time signatures and tempi that I work with in the study of classical to contemporary music. It has more features than I have had time to learn how to use yet so there is still untapped potential in the app. Well worth the few dollars it cost.

Take your time. There is no doubt this version is way better than the first one, specially if you are a professional musician. You just need to take 20min of your time to understand all the features. 2 bucks for this metronome is the best deal in the market. Keep the good work frozenape!

Out of date. A little tricky to get used to the editing but a very good tool and one of a kind in terms of tempo alignment with set lists.

Excellent timekeeper. This is my "go to" metronome app. It has a remarkably large feature set, but doesn't fail where it's most important – keeping time.

The best.. This is the best metronome I have ever used. It is incredibly easy to maneuver tempos, subdivisions and accent patterns. As a musician, I prefer this over any metronome - even a DB-90.

Overly complicated.. That is all. Set it to 2/4 110bpm and get twice the ticks I want. So in the trash you go.

iPhone 5/iPod touch 5th Generation. Please make it capable for iPhone 5/ iPod touch 5th generation!

Almost perfect. I love this app but I wish there was a way to enlarge the start and stop button for easier control for live use. Would be great if I didn’t have to aim my finger at the button and could just easily integrate the click into live playing. Other than that, best click app I’ve ever used.

Great, only one flaw.... I've had this app for over a year. I'm a professional Musician and teach and play drums and guitar. I use this app everyday teaching and on gigs. It has everything, however my only complaint (and I really hope someone reads this and remedies the problem) is that the area you touch for changing the tempo is so small that it makes it difficult to quickly change the tempo. Often while trying to bump the tempo up a few beats the app thinks I'm tapping a new tempo or opens the numeric pad. After a year of using the app it's still annoying. Why is the area for tapping to change the click sounds so big? There should be an option to swap these touch areas and have the larger area adjusting tempo.

Great app but occasional glitches. Agree with everything everyone says about this being an awesome tempo app. Very occasional freezes where it is jut stuck on beat 1 with no sound and I have to restart the phone for it to work again. Glitches like that, while very rare, make it a little sketchy for use in live music settings.

Everything you need.. Great for creating set lists Taping tempo Subdividing No complaints at all

Good apps.. Love it!

Need a metronome? This is it.. Nothing else comes close. There's no better metronome in the app store. I've been using Tempo forever, and this is the best version yet.

Difficult. This is NOT user friendly. Their minimal version is easier. The description implies that you can create a tune in the set list with multiple tempos, time signatures and even gradual changes (rit), but I sure cant figure out how and the help doesn't explain it.

Amazing App!. Such a handy tool for having playlists of your sets. Helps me so much

Rhythm Knowledge loves this app. This app offered me several things that I wanted in a practicing app including the bar/timing counter that I find absent on most metronomes. This allows you to keep track of how long or how many bars of a particular exercise you have done without a separate app or timer. In addition the polyrhythm mode is sick for listening to almost any polyrhythm and playing along with it at any tempo and you can also set up any subdivision you want from 1-19 and time signature from 1-19. Overall I like it a lot!

Well worth the money!. Easy to use & easy to go as deep as you need. Everyone will benefit from using it.

Fantastic! Much better than the free metronomes.. Why pay 2$ when you can get a metronome for free? Because this metronome is so much better. Read the help! It only takes 3 minutes and once you figure out the unconventional interface, it's actually really easy to use. Things I love about this metronome: *Steady tempo - even when your phone is checking mail or downloading apps *Great interface - takes a minute to learn, but then it's super quick to change tempos *Auto tempo increases - practise for a set number of bars and then try it again faster. *Accent notes - place them anywhere in the beat. A great app. Ten years ago I paid $20 for a digital metronome that didn't have half these features.

Great. Love the polyrhythms and how easy it is to use!

Perfect!. This has got to be the best metronome app i've seen! Absolutely perfect, you can adjust it as you wish. Its perfect for practice and for live performance!

Best practice app. Easy to use, has timer, etc. love it.

Amazing Job!. This is a great app, and one can tell that a lot of time was put into this. I would recommend it to any musician. Great work! I love the unique layout for portait mode, although it will be interesting to see how easy it is to see while practicing. Really cool! 2. Although I've seen other metronome makers do the same thing as you have for tempo, I think that the time signature option is much more painless and easy to use. I'd love to see the option for both. 3. The developer is always responsive and looks for ways to improve, so your ideas are heard. Don't expect this to be the final release. I just entered an entire piece onto the app with no trouble at all. It takes a long time to do it right, but this app let's you accomplish a true complete and customizable metronome for each sheet of music you have (If you have the time ;) It also works wonderfully for rythm and warm ups. 4. What I would like to see, and this would take quite a bit of work to make it happen, is a system set up on the tempo app that includes a few more lines like composer, etc. But under a more info tab so it's not cluttered. Then have the set lists exportable as a backup, and have an online (in app) site where you can import other people's lists. This would be awesome! 5. When you drag the tempo (above the arrows on portrait mode) it seems that the direction should be reversed. Keep up the good work!

The perfect metronome. I love this metronome and I wish I had one when I went through my conservatory training. I am a professional drummer and I use this every day for practice. It has many advantages that makes my practice routine more systematic: - Set practice time or bars for each tempo and then change tempo (by bpm) after each sequence has completed. - The ability to accent or silence certain beats -- great for internalizing tempi. E.g., have it click on four of every fourth bar (hard on really slow tempi) - Super easy to save practice routines (sets). - Easy to set up odd meeters - Easy to change tempo or meeters - Great for polyrythms - Great for different subdivisions. The more I learn about this little app, the more impressed I am. Of all the metronomes I have tried, this is the best one (and I don´t even know the makers of this great app:-). One thing I would love to see is the ability to record audio and video while the metronome is running. It would be great to record a sequence with AND without click and then listen to/watch it later.

Terrific app. I have the original Tempo as well and, frankly, that does everything I could want. But this is far more powerful, even if I don't need that power, some will find it useful. Yes, it is complicated. If you want something with serious power, that is pretty much unavoidable. You can buy this and just use its basic capabilities if you don't want both but are worried that some day you may wish you had all the power this one has. But c'mon, it is 2 bucks and does more than any far more expensive metronome I could buy!

This thing is so versatile. Nothing more to say; this thing is dang near perfect.

Can’t live without it. I use it most days of my life.

Great App, but can't wait for the tweeks.. I work in a situation where songs are mixing in with each other much like a DJ would play his set. I was a big fan of the Yamaha Clickstation because you could type in the new tempo as the old tempo was playing, then hit the start button when you were ready to use new tempo without interuption. I'm soooo happy to see that this app has this feature! However, it would be nice if you could type in the new tempo without having to erase the old one first using the (X) button. If that tweak is made as well as some others that were previously mentioned,( like the full screen flash) I would gladly change my rating to 5 stars!!! Thanks for a great app!

Excellent. See title of this review.

Awesome. Best ROI I’ve ever had. You will see progress immediately.

Definitely not an upgrade from “Tempo”…. I paid for Tempo Advance because it seemed there was ZERO support for it’s older brother, Tempo. In THAT app, constant crashes when trying to export any set list - native tempo file or text. So, I got Tempo Advance. From the word go, this is a VERY confusing metronome. I’ve played for years and the polyrhythms it creates are impressive, but sometimes you just want 16th notes over the 8th notes to help keep you in the pocket. This took me about 15 minutes to figure out. No big deal; learning curve, so this app is awesome and its just me. *sigh* I am a drummer on a worship team, so our repertoire is 80+ regarding quantity. I talked my drumming compadres on the worship team to get tempo (at first) because we could maintain a “database” of songs, and simply send the set list out every month. That did not happen as mentioned above. There are a few features that I just have not found in Tempo Advance, and they are pretty crucial. 1) Tempo Advance does not allow you to sort the songs alphabetically - scratch that - at ALL! MAJOR show-stopper for me, as we have 80+ songs! Why would you need it in in alphabetical order? Allow me to continue, 2) You can’t add songs from any list! This seems stupidly odd! In Tempo, I could “Add songs from any set list.” Not in Tempo Advance! Mr. Mangini is one of the most influential drummers in the world, but Frozen Ape needs to focus their efforts on keeping their customers happy, not Mr. Mangini. They are sucking at doing that. So, why such a “good” rating for such a “bad” review? The metronome is amazing if you only want to practice. It helps in learning polyrhythms, as it states. It does a lot of things well, but it does not come close with things that are practical. I wished I’d never spend my money on it. Tempo Metronome did everything I needed, and I don’t have to recreate my MASTER list (even if I can’t share it; but, hey! it doesn’t matter which app you have - none do!)

Long-time user. I've been using this app for a couple years now and I have to say that it is great. I play in several bands, and I use this app to store the tempi for all the songs. My proggy/metal band uses different time signatures and tempo changes; this app can handle just about anything with minimal effort. In church, I simply move the current week's sing to the top of the set list and play the metronome through the in-ears. My team has grown to love using this app as well. I've even shared set lists with other drummers with the app - it is seamless and easy. I'm glad I found the right app early on.

Great app, poor instructions. Would give this 5 stars because it has everything I need, but the layers need better instructions to navigate. Not as intuitive as the site says, and some instructions are outdated. Support is unresponsive.

Terrible customer support!. Does not return emails not helpful.

Amazing App. This is the best metronome app that money can buy!

Greatness!!!. I've been using the original version and recently upgraded. The original was great but this was definitely worth the upgrade. I play drums with a modern worship band and use this as a live click on a very regular basis and it's always worked great. My favorite additions to the new version include being able to totally overwrite a song's settings and being able to copy songs between setlists. These are both HUGE time savers. I also like the new pro sound set and the ability to volume adjust each sound. The only thing I miss from the old version is the on-screen volume slider. Overall a great app.

Lots of great stuff in this update. Really nice update to an app I use everyday and rely on. I had worried that it’d been abandoned with the other app getting more frequent updates and iPad support early on, so this was great to see, and it’ll be nice to native iPad support when I use it on an iPad. I think this is the best metronome app on the app store for real musicians who oftentimes need a tool that can go the extra mile. At first, one thing I missed in this update was the ability to touch and drag to change the beats and subdivision, but upon playing around with it more, I realized you do so by just touching and dragging on the dots now. This is actually an improvement to me as it’s easier to touch the correct area. I’m also really happy to have the polyrythm capabilities now. It’ll take a bit of time to get used to some things, but overall, this seems like a great update to an app that is perhaps under appreciated by some, but invaluable to others.

😎 awesome. GET IT NNNOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW. 😇😇😇😇😅😅😂 amazing app. 💪😉

Almost perfect, just one glaring bug. I love using this to automate drills. Just set up the beats like a sequencer and program the setlist and songs to change as needed and all I need is to hit play and drum along. I use this app for practicing taiko and I would love to use it to program parts of songs or more advanced drills. Unfortunately there is a major bug when playing set lists with unique and more complex songs. If you're doing simpler repetitive drills, this probably won't affect you. The first time a song plays following a different song, the fist beat of the song uses the first beat of the prior song. It plays the first beat correctly if the song is played on it's own or after the first bar when the song repeats multiple bars. This makes it impossible to use the app for parts of songs or certain drills that change up the first beat. I really do enjoy using the app and it's been a great help, but this one little bug is keeping it from perfection. Five stars from me once this bug is fixed.

The best metronome!. This metronome is very steady and easy to use. It has a lot of pro features and I use it everyday.

Deserves no less than 5. This is the first metronome I've ever used and it has everything. I can do anything with it that helps me with any style of music, even swing (you don't need a swing button if you know what swing is with this metronome). Also, can even strap it to my arm or something and it will VIBRATE for me so it takes care of three senses that help you keep the beat: sound, sight, and touch. As a drummer, I can learn new rhythms by simply tapping in the sounds and hits I want and adjust the specific volume and sound for each hit. It's a beautiful metronome and its better than any other.

Amazing tool. Beautiful UI, easy to use and enjoyable

Tempo 2. This is a very flexible metronome app. You create a click pattern with two levels of time subdivision. The main level might be quarter notes and the second level eighths, sixteenths, or septuplets for example. You tap the dots to select one of 4 click types for each beat or subdivision. This allows construction of useful rhythmic and accent patterns. You can then save the current settings as a "song" and chain songs into setlists. What this app calls a song I would call a section for an accelerando or section of constant tempo and meter. GUI non intuitive at times requiring tap and hold to open dialogs when single or double tap would be better. Numbers are changed by click and drag to spin up or down which can be confusing as to the direction to drag. If you are willing to spend 30 minutes to play and learn all the controls and modes this is a powerful programmable metronome. Some GUI tweaks and this will be great.

Best metronome out there. As a drummer this is the best and most advanced metronome on the market. It is also easy to use! You can customize any number of back beats, which makes it easy to practice polyrhythms. You can create custom set lists, so when you are out at a gig or rehearsal, all of your programmed tempos are ready to go and easy to switch between. Few things I would recommend: an OSX version for my computer. Rearranging songs in the set list could be easier. Also have the set lists sync between devices. This way if the battery on my iPad dies, I can easily shift to my iPhone, and not worry about making a new set list.

Really not for everyone. I have been a satisfied user of Tempo, the other metronome from Frozen Ape. I am giving Tempo 2 a low rating because it has very complex and unnecessarily non-standard user interface. Tempo 2 has an in-app help system, and it's the first iPhone app that I've used that needs it. Simple tasks have become difficult and seem far from intuitive. For example, setting a time signature is certainly flexible and compact. Unfortunately it takes about four screens of help to explain how 3.2 = 3/8 ... except when it means 3/4 ... and 3.3 = 9/8 and how to change those numbers. Scrollers that look like an array of buttons are used for setting sounds. The interface does include some nice ideas; setting the accents is intuitive and flexible. This could be very good for someone who needs the advanced features and is willing to put in the time and effort to learn the interface. That's not me. I'd like some of the features - but I'm not willing to learn this interface before I can get the iPhone to something as simple as tap out 112 bpm in 4/4. Thanks to Frozen Ape for making this a separate application so that there is no need to restore after an upgrade that added unwanted features. Thanks also for putting both Tempo and Tempo 2 on sale so that it's reasonable to try both.

It’s about Time….ALL ABOUT TIME. Great app. . Able to do others can not. Has helped my timing.

Great app. Works great, never buggy, tons of features and very versatile.

Legit. Nice metronome and whatever. Highly recommend!

Awesome app, just what I needed!. Helps you with all polyrhythms from simple to complex. Have recommended it to many colleagues already!

Great app. Now a staple for my gigs. It's never let me down

Pretty Good. I just bought Tempo Advanced yesterday, and found it to be pretty good. As someone else noted, the swiping for tempo is a little sensitive, and a little confusing, but its necessary considering this metronome's enormous range. Rather than provide preset time signatures, like 4/4, 3/4, and 6/8, Tempo Advanced simply give users the BPM, Beats per measure, and number of subdivisions. Users also are able to set each beat and sub-beat to whatever sound they want (of the given options). There are several color-themes inside the app for customization, and many sound packs if you don't like the preset sounds. You can save a set metronome configuration into a song, and keep a record of groups of song settings in folders. One thing that I hope could be part of this app one day, is a feature allowing songs to be saved with preset changes in tempo at certain measures. A lot of my songs jump between 4/4 and 3/4 and 6/8, and so on. To configure an entire song to change measure by measure for one's song would be phenomenal! There is an enormous range if options and the capabilities of this metronome. Its tools are far greater than those of the original Tempo. If users are looking for a simple metronome, this may not as good an option as the original Tempo, but if you want something a little bit more advanced, this is a great investment!

100 stars. Loooooooove this app. Super helpful- super versatile. One of the best practice aids I’ve ever come across

Nothing to Complain About. I did a LOT of research on metronome apps, this one is definitely one of the best.

Best metronome.. Just hands down the best metronome app you can buy for drummers. Possibilities are endless. Worth every penny!

Please update the app!. Please keep this app going. It’s strong and has the potential to be so much more.

Love this app BUT!!!!!. This app is amazing. I play at a very large church with multiple services and rehearsal throughout the week. My only issue is the subdivision volumes. It does allow you to control the volume but you have to save the setting for EVERY song individually instead of just saving your volume preferences overall. Secondly, there really is not a significant change in volumes even when you do adjust them. It'd be nice to have definitive down beats and subdivisions. Otherwise this app is incredible for the gigging and touring drummer who got sick of bringing their laptop everywhere and using reason. Unless your constantly using loops, reason gets old fast .

Great. Best metronome period.

MetroNope. Been using it just ten minutes and it is clearly not optimized or something. It keeps randomly hesitating during playback. Sorry, but ZERO TOLERANCE for something that has one important job to do.

best metronome so far. I play a lot of Dream Theater and LTE and I do a lot of prog metal writing, so I need a metronome that can pump out all those crazy time signatures and keep up with the changes. This metronome is by far the most advanced and accurate one i've ever used and i have used quite a few both apps, digital, and even one of those old dinosaur ones. Tempo 2 beats them all. I will warn you though, this thing is a beast to figure out sometimes. it will take some getting used to for sure but it'll do everything you want and then some. Seriously guys, buy this app if you're looking for a great metronome. You can either pay $2 and be happy, or spend 15 times more on a korg and be happy but with less money. You're choice.

Tight. Best ever

Great App. Does everything you need in a metronome. Wish it worked with my apple watch.

5 stars!. Very intuitive and easy to customize!

Versatile practice tool. I’m a working jazz musician for 20+ years now. Ive tried 4-5 different metronomes on the App Store and without a doubt, this is the most useful. Biggest gems... 1 - the subdivision interface is easy and flexible 2 - the polyrhythmic tools are fantastic 3 - the tempo ramping features are indispensable to my routine

Impressive app that can be used not only for music stuff, but also for fitness.. The interface looks polished and an overall look of the app is great. I am not a musician, but I found the app to be very useful during my workouts. Specifically, I use it to set the tempo for each exercise. It can also be set to count the number of reps you have performed with a certain tempo. So, for example, you can set it up to count 3 seconds up, 3 seconds down (1 rep) for 10 reps. Very useful. Thanks to Metronome: Tempo 2, I now can be more focused on performing exercises correctly instead of trying to count up and down in my head while performing an exercise. Oh, and there is one more thing: I had no idea how to use the app or even if it can do what I wanted it to use for. So I used the contract e-mail on the app's website and emailed all my questions. I got a detailed answer with the screen shots on how to setup the app. Great app, great support.

Good app but.... Love this app but currently it hasn't been working. Some notes won't allow me to accent and the met cuts out sometimes. I have to play music for it to start making sound again, really weird. Needs an update asap!

Nice utility with lots of options, but a couple of requests... Frankly it's taken me a while to find all the different options in this app. I just started out using it as a basic metronome, but now am finding out how useful it is for setting up specific measure/beat patterns for practicing tunes I have written for acoustic instrumental guitar. My requests: A greater variety of sounds. Sometimes I just can't find one that fits what I need to hear. The ability to save the sound settings along with the beat patterns in the setlist. This app can fill in as a reasonably good rhythm section (while practicing), and it would be nice to preserve the instrumentation, too.

Everything I want in a click and more. Set lists, polyrhythmic meters, tap tempo, yeah, that'll do it.

tempo adv!!!. The Best Rhythm Partner~~~!!!

Great App. I've been using this app for over a year now and it never lets me down. I play drums at a medium sized church and am able to save all the songs we are playing currently on one set list and just sift through to find the ones I need each week and put them at the beginning and hit start. The only way this could get better is if they added a "search" feature so you could find your songs in the set list and put them at the top without having to drag all the way through the list. Being able to switch tempos or songs, even new time signatures/subdivisions is awesome! Definitely worth it!

Nice! . Sure, this app could use a few more features are UI tweaks, but I don't quite understand the trouble some are having with learning how to use the app, more specifically, time signatures. If you are someone who really benefits from this app like a studious musician, yo should have enough musical knowledge to quickly catch on how to use the beats and subdivisions. The big buttons are downbeats, and the bottom row of small buttons are subdivisions of each button in the top row. Hmm.....not too hard to figure out if you know proper counting of time signatures and a tiny bit of math in some cases. Great app so far, can't wait for updates! (will update with 5 stars after next awesome update!)
