Avis - Car Rental Comments & Reviews 2026
Can’t count on app - Update. Had confirmed reservation in BLOC / downtown LA only to arrive and be told there were no cars. Solution was to pay for a Lyft to LAX to pay a HIGHER rate and waste hours of my families weekend in the process. 2019, “the cloud”, modern telecom networks and AVIS can’t figure out how to keep their inventory updated in THEIR system??? Am I remised to state that this is their fundamental business? Not good... Update - Avis rectified the situation eventually and am glad they took responsibility for the situation, expressed sincere apology and reconciled. Would’ve put a 5star after ordeal if I had not had to put in >30min in phone, two different calls, and writing this review to get “attention”. I will be calling ahead to confirm future reservations at smaller distribution sites that have a high probability of being inventory limited and or not “up to date” in the system.
Bad service for being an Avis Preferred customer. I’ve been renting Avis cars for quite a while now where Ive become an Avis preferred member for several years but when I go to pick up my car anymore at the airport at Midland international Airport they never have my car ready I always have to walk very far out to get my car and they used to have my keys the form set up ready to go all they did was hand me it and I was on my way so I’m very disappointed in the customer service on how long it’s taking!! I got one today I had to wait in line for 40 minutes to get my car not happy with that also the prices have doubled the last several months why is that ? So not being treated as a preferred member and prices have doubled hope this gets fixed or I will have to find another company to rent from
Horrific - Anti-Ease of Use. This applications setup process is totally broken and non-obvious. It automatically latches an email address without means of changing it. It grabbed my personal email rather than work. The app on first use has a giant create account button (80% of the screen) there is also a create account with wizard number. But if one has ever logged into the website, the apparent correct action is none of the above. Instead, one clicks the tiny login button. The error messages associated with try to create an ‘App’ account, when one already has.a website account are woeful. (The are apparently one in the same, but the error message doesn’t say, an account already exists, it says “parameter error’.. the AVIS customer support attached to the error messages was woeful. The initial screen shows a primary create new account button, or a create account with wizard number. If you already have an account, use neither, use the login button at top right. And then, in spite of prompts use only account name, not the promoted for wizard number. On a 2 to 19 scale, this app is -1 waste of time. Truly BAD, BAD, BAD. On a scale of 1 to 10, thirds account setup pages are a zero. Not to mention the use of 0’s embedded into alpha strings so users cannot tell if a given character is a zero or an ‘O’. AVUS truly gets a total fail on this app. It is as if the app was never field tested with real customers, just pure junk.
Poor customer service. We arrived at DFW very excited that we were going going to be able to rent our Toyota Prius that we prepaid online almost $400 for a week. When we got to the counter the agent asked if that was what we rented? I showed her that and her reply was we rented it out earlier that day. I explained to her we wanted the Prius Becuase we were looking into purchasing a Prius And this would be our opportunity to test drive one. She said we don’t have any Prius and the only car they had was a Toyota Corolla. I then asked is their anything that was similar to a hybrid? Her reply was we only had a Toyota Corolla. I then told her that Avis bait and switched my purchase for the rental. If I would have known that I would not be able to rent my Pruis I would have went else where. They did not to remedy the situation even though I gave them the opportunity. I added a driver and they charged me over $150 dollars as well. But they did thank me for being a preferred member. I will never rent from Avis again. Very poor service.
Horrible customer service. Came out in the morning to a car that was dead. Called roadside service and gave them ALL the information. They said they’d text me when a tech was on the way. Eight hours later I called them only to be told no one has been dispatched because they DIDN’T HAVE THE ADDRESS WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS LOCATED!! Ridiculous!! If that was the case, why didn’t they call me?? I told them I needed a new car and the old one picked up. They said they couldn’t do that and that I’d have to talk to the local office. They transferred me to a phone that rang and rang and then hung up. ABYSMAL!! My travel agent at World Travel couldn’t reach them either!! Good thing I wasn’t stranded in the middle of nowhere!!
Avis lost my initial car, then the replacement broke down. It was pretty much a nightmare from the start. Someone else took my rental car in Nashville that had been reserved so they gave me a Mustang as a replacement that broke down after 4 days. I stayed on hold waiting for emergency roadside assistance for 30 minutes. They could send a tow truck for the mustang but could not get me to another car since the nearest Avis was 100 miles away, but offered to let me Uber and try to get reimbursement later. What a nightmare! I got a ride to the nearest Avis, and then turned the next car in a day early but never received any credit, nor an apology for all the mistakes and inconvenience. Lastly, they did not credit the account I wanted my points to go to so I had to sit on hold again for an hour to speak to someone, only for them to put me on hold again for another 15 minutes, and then hang up on me. Frustrating is not the word!
be careful. I am writing especially for American tourists, please read my message before you book any car through this app, you will lose money 100%, and so I booked a car through this app, they charged me 575% of the initial amount and I had to pay the rest of the money in the amount of 1200+ $ when I pick up the car, but when I arrived at the Avis location to pick up my car, they told me that they did not have this car and apologized for the damage caused, they wasted my precious time + because of them I lost an important business meeting, but that's not all, after I wrote to Carla's support service to get my money back for the goods not received, they refused to return the money to me without any reason, and there can't be any reason and it doesn't matter to me since I I didn't receive my car and besides the fact that they were obliged to immediately return my money, they also owed me compensation for the damage and inconvenience caused, but they even refuse to return my money to me, and this is chaos and illegal action, I ask all tourists to be be careful from this app and Avis rental car, if you suddenly pay in advance through a credit card or through another and you have a problem with the car, then you will most likely lose all your money thanks, and I am not going to pay not one cent, and after I have a problem with my credit history, there will be legal problems with this company with my lawyer
Late renter beware I’m Albuquerue. I was worried when I reserved my rental for my late night trip to Albuquerque and trying to find a car that would be available after midnight but Avis said they’d be there. So when I arrived at the terminal in the rental car area I was ushered through to the garage where preferred AVIS renters were to be met by someone with my vehicle ready. Finally arriving all the way out there hoping to be quickly seated in my new rental, I was met by darkness and my name was no where on the preferred rental board. I also could not find any attendant at all due to the fact that they all went home. So I made my way back into the terminal to talk to Melissa who thankfully was still there and was able to help me access a car and put me in the right direction. Too bad the left-hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing as the inside counter person had no idea of the staff activities in the garage. So if you’re arriving late, call ahead and get the facts about your car and be sure to grab papers and keys before heading to the garage after midnight. I did try calling from my connecting flight in Dallas just to make sure everything would be well when I arrived late in New Mexico by calling the Avis 800 number , which put me in a merry-go-round of voicemails that took ne nowhere close to Albuquerque‘s car desk area to ask any such questions. In the end, all was well.
App Review. This is a review of the app. It is not a review of Avis. Apparently a lot of people think that they have a complaint about a Avis. This is the appropriate forum. I give this app three stars, because there are some functionality issues that can be improved. For example, when selecting the airline one must scroll through a large number of Airlines -it would be easier to be able to type in a few ladders and then Select. then type in a few letters, There should be a better way of doing it. Overall, it is much easier to rent on the app, then via telephone. However, when I get to my destination and I request a car such as a Tesla, they told me I need to reserve it on the app although there’s no means of doing it. Obviously, there’s a disconnect between the app and service.
Terrible cars at this location. This is the 2nd time I’ve rented a car from AVIS & EVERY car I’ve ever gotten has been run down. Today I picked up a car & rep said there wasn’t any damages to it. After getting into the car, not only did it have chips on the bumper but the drivers seat seems broken (I went back into the location to info rep. & he said there weren’t any more cars. The car is suppose to be an upgrade and it rides HARD like there’s a problem with the tires, it pulls to 1 side as if it needs an alignment, it rumbles & accelerates hard as if there is a problem with the transmission. I had to wait over 45 min. for the rep because he was cleaning cars. Waiting caused need to be late for some very important meetings. Therefore, I had no choice but to leave in this broken down car. The last car I rented was a nice full size car with lots of upgrades ( unlike this one) but, it was obvious someone had smoked in it. I drove it out of town by myself at night and I wasn’t sure the car would make it. When I got to Atlanta I had to switch the car out & it wasn’t any better. This will be the last time I will rent a car from AVIS until they begin to get newer & better fleets of cars.
Please fix your app. I keep getting an error that I will be locked out of my account if I don’t change my password. I have tried to change my password at least 10 different times on 3 different days, and I keep getting the same pop up that I can’t use a password that I have already used. None of the passwords were the same, or even close. I shouldn’t have to keep doing this. I have since cancelled my reservation for this week, and rescheduled thru Enterprise. Being that Avis has always been my go to for renting cars for business and personal trips, I hope this is fixed for my next trip after this one so that I can go back to using my favorite car rental company.
Poor customer service. I’ve been a customer for years. Somehow the name on my Avis proffered account was overwritten and I can no longer link reservations I make through my work concur profile. Over the course of several hours, I spoke to 4 different individuals, who gave me 4 different answers on how to fix their mistake. One of which was “oh you can’t actually change your name online in the profile, I don’t know why it says you can”, another representative stated the exact opposite after saying they could only link my reservation to my Avis preferred account if I agreed to pay 4x the original price because it was impossible to update my name on the account. Several phone calls later, I was assured it was resolved, twice, I still can’t link my existing reservation to my Avis account. The whole experience raised the bar for incompetence in customer service…. So congratulations I guess.
Disappointed and almost done with Avis.. Over the years, Avis has made a consistent decline in the quality and amenities included in the basic full size vehicle. It’s very disappointing to feel as though I’m getting less and less for the same amount of money I spend. In addition to this fact, Avis has become less likely to issue significant upgrades, unless it is clearly convenient for your station representatives. I used to be part of the Avis First program- what ever happened to that program? Now when I get upgraded, it’s to a gas-guzzling SUV (which I NEVER ask for because I prefer driving a regular sedan). It’s almost as tho you can’t get them rented- so why not give them as upgrades. I DONT LIKE RENTING SUVs. I just want a sedan with leather seats, and I prefer Ford since that’s what I drive personally. These requests seem to always inconvenience your local station reps. I used to be part of Avis First- a higher tier Preferred program that was actually pretty good. Bring that back please
New app updates. I’m so sorry! Because I LOVE your company, and I LOVE your employees, this app change is just not so great. I travel every week for work. I used to get push notifications every time I landed and took my phone off airplane mode. Now I have to sign In nearly time, I don’t get push notifications, and I am usually on the ground about 15 min before the app acknowledges that I have a car rented for today. Face recognition - I’ve clicked to turn it in every time I’ve signed in and it still isn’t kicking in. (Also, Sacramento Avis has a lot of issues picking up the cars and with even getting to the rental center, but all the other cities are great). I’d love to see this app improved to keep up with all the other great aspects of this company. (Aside note - SFO - best rental experience, consistently, every time, and your employees simply ROCK. Exceptional everywhere I go!)
Reservation numbers do not guarantee a car. Sadly, this was my family’s experience flying into Punta Gorda, Florida late at night. We were in a long line to check in at the Avis counter. It took about an hour and then I the problem was for families in front of us were told that, even though they had a reservation number, there was no car for them. I foolishly continued to wait in line thinking that certainly that wasn’t going to be our experience. Avis is the company that says we tried harder, and they gave me a confirmation number. But the reality was my family of four that night was not only told we do not have a car, but was given no assistance to get transportation to our hotel 15 minutes away. They help us attend attendant at the desk, blamed the corporate software, allowing cars to be checked out, even though there was a reservation on them. I don’t know what the problem really was but I know that’s no way to secure future reservations. Avis has competitors that try harder.
Online app service. I was on the phone for about 2 hours trying to get a car rental. I did it online through the app. It kept kicking me out of the app after I put in my information including my credit card information!!! I tried again and got someone on the phone from the Avis to totally have me redo my reservation only to have the same thing happen. I put my card number in twice!! Finally the guy on the phone said that they were having trouble with the reservation online if you put in the pay now option which means you have to pay more if you pay later!! Come on now!! Of course when I tried for a third time it went through because I was paying more and I finally got a confirmation number from them!!! Now I have to call my credit card company to make sure that I was not charged three times for this car!! What a pain!!!
Different quotes. I drive for ubereats & with them your suppose to get a discounted price. I’ve gotten 3 different quotes from different representatives. When I went in person to the kennesaw location & was about to pay I got quoted $321 for a week, $100 included in that price went towards the security deposit. When I called last week, I got quoted $300 for security deposit & $385 for the week. That was the actual price I’ve paid before for a week & security deposit without going through the Uber rental program because I only had prepaid cards which they do not accept. I called today & was quoted $200 for a security deposit & $345 for the week. I’m not sure if prices fluctuate during the week or holidays or if they just changed depending on who I talk to but it was very confusing. I’ve paid at over $200 cheaper for a rental going through a different company and I will continue doing so!
Ridiculous. I tried to reserve a mustang GT on the app. It would not give me the option. It did however say Mustang with no real details. I arrived at the site and in the spot was a regular Mustang. I went to the counter and asked why I wasn’t given a GT or the option to rent a GT. They said they could do it but it was going to be 1000 dollars more expensive. And they were giving me the car I requested. I explained this did not happen the last time I rent or the time before. And that I never was given the option for the car I wanted even though it was there. The counter clammed up and said take itnor leave it. All while telling people cars were coming and having no one was receiving a vehicle. The last time I rented I got the vehicle I was looking for with great service. I was expecting to have a certain vehicle for Memorial Day and felt like I was taken advantage of. I excepted the vehicle that was there and left highly disappointed in the whole Avis preferred experience in Denver.
Inability to change business and personal profile. First of all this App has some pretty cool features like choose your own car at pickup location and walk to you assigned car without talking to a human. However I cannot believe it does not let you setup a business profile separate from your personal profile. Come on Avis it’s 2024. People travel for both business and vacation. If it’s business, it should be billed to the company credit card. If it’s for vacation, it should be billed to the personal credit card. To make this worse, you does not allowed change of method of payment if it’s prepaid. I prepaid with my personal card for vacation but when I arrived at the pickup location it changed to the last card I used which was a business credit card. Please fix this issue or learn from Uber/Lyft.
Make my UX magical...Mind the gap!. While this latest release is leaps and bounds better, there’s still some work needed to make my UX an A+. Give us full access to all rental modifications. As a user I would like the ability to return my vehicle before the date of the scheduled return. For example, the app will not let me return my vehicle one day early. I am only able to add days to my rental. Full access to reservation mods would make any change far more efficient for the user, and here’s why: The 1800 preferred automated/rep phone user experience is very clunky, very slow and forces the user to *only* use voice prompts, no keypad entries are allowed. Not only does the user need to repeat their entries, but annoyingly loud. This is a security risk when making mods in a public space. Aren’t most customers renting cars away from home or in a public space? With that said, my other alt is to make the mods via web, but the web’s UI and UX is buggy, often timing out during fetch, or just does not have most basic rental modification features. Calling and speaking to a rep is an absolute nightmare, even as a preferred plus member. Please consider my user story for your next app development sprint, it would greatly improve the UX. Make my UX magical...Mind the gap! The details are not the details; they make the design.
Shady and deceitful. Rented a vehicle with avis for an out of state visit with family. Was able to prepay and the app said I was good to go. Confirmed my reservation, total price when I landed and check in was easy (to a fault). Working on the assumption that all my options (declined all added services) would be honored and went directly to choosing a vehicle on the app. When I returned my vehicle I noticed I was being charged almost double what I was quoted. Tried to contact support but as I returned my vehicle after customer service hours, I had to wait until the next day. They informed me I accepted liability protection (I did not). Provided them with a screenshot of the original agreement showing all options declined. They informed me that they could not do anything about it. If your reading this double check your agreement before driving off and just because you declined the services AVIS IS ABLE TO ADD THOSE SERVICES ON LATER AND CLAIM YOU AGREED TO THEM. Will be taking to my credit card company about a partial chargeback as they refuse to work with me regarding this.
Impressed!. I was having a hard time finding a rental company that didn’t cost me a fortune plus a deposit on top of that! This company worked with me and I didn’t have to go into detail and explain myself as I often feel I have to, I am very comfortable in their vehicle! In fact I actually love it! 2020 Kia Optima. Since I’ve had the car, it’s been a complete turnaround on my mentalState of mind.,It has greatly affected my moodAnd emotional status in a positive way! I recently lost my Toyota Camry and the unfortunate car accident on route 1A. I had only liability insurance and unfortunately I didn’t have collision. My insurance company paid the other party involved in the accident $7905! When my car is completely totaled, they hit me, and they were able to drive off! Their front bumper was a little damage sure, anyway that’s besides the point clearly I’m still upset about it. But besides all that, yes I have been extremely grateful and hopeful that I can get a lot done while I have this rental so I can get old blue back on the road! So thank you Avis company for working with me!The two young folks that were working the desk the day I picked up the car we’re extremely kind and helpful and got me in right away! The airport was pretty dead because of the snowstorm but they both seemed like they took pride in their job and we’re also dressed very nicely by the way! Very professional! I love the app I love the rental car I love everything you guys are awesome! 👍👍😊
Book a car delayed and even though I called your 800 number that night and the COS car xxl. No help calling your 1800 number and the COS station - was on a domestic flight that was delayed - then cancelled due to severe weather - as soon as it happened I called your 1800 number who instructed me to call the COS station in the morning which I did the young lady who answered the phone - assured me my car was going to be waiting on me and they wouldn’t cancel it until midnight - I tried to explain to her that I was supposed to have arrived the night before - later I received and email saying rental would expire at noon - so I called the COS station to find out the car had been cancelled - the agent then tried to tell me that whomever booked it had it had booked it checking out and in the car for the same day - which was incorrect because I have a confirmation email showing the car rental check in was for 12 April at 1200. Both your 1800 agent and your local COS agents were basically not helpful. Please train the agents to listen to the customer before giving an answer. During a stressful trip due to bad weather it would be nice to know I can count on Avis to assure the car I rented was secure and waiting for me.
Horrible customer service at rock hill location. I booked a prepaid car using this app.. I arrive after taking a $30 Uber to get there and am informed they “can’t” rent to me. Keep in mind I am a preferred member with over 60 rentals this year alone. I was then directed to call customer service to return my car. I asked for the number and the response was “this avis site doesn’t have a customer service number call the number that’s on your email.” When I then showed this “avis agent” that the number on my email to call for issues was in fact her local branch’s direct number. Still no help.. finally I was able to google avis customer service and get through to the billing department and get a refund. This did not help the situation as I was at this location with a newborn baby and a rude Avis agent. After a little research I’ve seen several complaints about this specific location. Rock hill galleria is a privately owned franchise and they constantly have complaints about the owner himself being just as rude. Why avis hasn’t stripped him of his ability to ruin their name? I have no idea and until this rude, inconsiderate, and poorly ran Avis is not allowed to use their name I will never rent from you again.
Vehicle and Service Great but..... I have used Avis for the past year and have told everyone I know how great the service and cars have been. Well, this Camry I currently I have now, runs great, was clean but someone had smoked in the vehicle. The car was dropped off at my workplace and when I got in the car I noticed it right away and didn’t have time to exchange the car if I wanted to keep my schedule. I have been driving with a rear window partially open even though it is cold, it prevents me from getting a headache. Just wanted you to know. I am renting a vehicle for a personal trip to Albany NY this weekend and hopefully don’t have this issue again. I totally understand that it is difficult to managed drivers who smoke vs those who don’t but it is a big concern for me and my wife. Thank you for your time. Mr. Albert Vazquez
Beware small airports. Beware of small airports. Upon landing at Burlington Vermont I used the Avis App to select a different vehicle. I chose a four wheel drive Explorer as there was no additional charge. Upon arrival at the counter I was informed that there was a “glitch in the system “ and too many customers were taking upgrades that they weren’t entitled to. I was given the basic Elantra (original car) which caused real problems crossing the mountains. Previously I have used the App to change vehicles without problems. The switch option has a limited timeframe. I have never been able to change prior to landing (I have always been honest and booked at my scheduled arrival time). I’m thinking of switching rental companies to compare vehicle change options. Lastly beware of using the App to change the drop-off city. My plans changed and I used the Application to return to a different city. I’m can’t say I wasn’t told but on returning the vehicle I had exorbitant mileage charges that were not in my original agreement. Making changes with a real computer allows better control of actual charges.
Dr. Mark. There are many aspects of the app that I really like and find the improvements to be better and better all the time. However — one EXTREMELY frustrating thing for me is the inability for the app to keep me signed in. It asks me to enable my Face ID each time and the app NEVER keeps me logged in. I don’t have this issue with any other app where I have log in information. I have even tried to delete and reload the app on several occasions. This doesn’t seem to be a difficult fix to make and I can’t imagine I’m the only person to have this issue. It’s very frustrating for me when I basically go from one Avis rental to the next. Thanks! Hopefully there’s something that you can do to improve this feature for me.
Decent app until time to pickup car. The little issues (mentioned below) combined really make using the app a chore when picking up the car. Making reservations: - Upcoming rentals seem to be sorted by modification date rather than pick up date (e.g. later rental listed at top before earlier rental) - Pictures in app look cheesy, always outdated or un-rentable vehicles shown - I like option to select prices with tax, that’s helpful, should be a profile level setting to keep on/off continuously Picking up car: - When trying to chose/view other cars in app, that has been disabled for me and I receive an error message saying “There was a problem with the payment method on the account. Please update it and try again”. - No idea why since the credit card saved to my account is correct, not expired and used to pay for rental (confirmed obviously by rental charges on that card after return) - And my name/space number wasn’t listed on board at pickup, no email informing me about me assigned car either - I asked the associate at Preferred desk about error message - they told me it’s because I wanted to pay with cash?! How’s that possible when my reservation used the credit card on my profile?! Very annoying - Express pass doesn’t work all the time at exit gate either - Frustrating process ruins whole experience Returning car: Returning process through the app was pretty easy.
Pointless App, Still Requires Counter Wait Time. I have had the Avis “Preferred” app for two car rentals now. The first car rental I had to go to the counter instead of being able to pick my car and walk right to it. After I got to the counter the price was more than double my original reservation. It was eventually rectified but not without arguing with the customer service rep. My second rental I still had to go to the counter to be told which vehicle instead of being able to go directly to the car from the number on the “Preferred” board. Both times I was unable to choose a vehicle from the app as it advertised. I’m now trying to add a second form of payment using the app and it instead defers me to call Customer Service even though the app says it can store up to four credit cards. The whole point of this app is to aid in convenience, but it is nothing more than a hassle. Do not recommend this mess.
Customer Service / cleanliness of car. I first checked in at the ORF AVIS counter. The lady at the regular counter was nice enough. However, I was directed over to the preferred counter inside the parking garage. That clerk was rude and seemed like I was bothering her. I was practically the only one there, besides her. The airport was pretty empty. I made it to the car, the car’s first check inside the dark parking garage seemed ok, and it had the “car has been AVIS sanitized” sicker on the mirror. Once I got out of the garage and into the light, I learned it was not cleaned. It had nose (or finger) smudges all over the back two side windows. A few days later, I opened the passenger side front door to get something. There were two chewed toothpicks in the door handle. I’m pretty sure more time was spent hanging the “cleaned” sign than actually cleaning. Other than that, the car runs great and is great on fuel mileage. The windshield washer is bone dry.
Requires Full (not just add) calendar access just to add. This app has been flakey with consistency for years now. I often just abandon bookings attempts and start over and get different results and costs (within minutes so not variable pricing). But my most recent attempt to add a reservation to my calendar with permissions of “add event only” continued to claim I had to give the app access to my calendar. Restarts and multiple attempts with no success. Come to the conclusion that the app wants full access to my calendar which when I consider doing in settings tells me that the Avis app will have read/write access to every single event in my calendar. A quick search shows other folks with similar issues and suggests that once granted they can even store this info on their servers. No thanks! I am sure that full access is needed to UPDATE events - but the app should just allow me to simple add.
Double-Dippers of PII. If you book Avis thru a travel agent, Avis will associate the email address you've given the travel agent with the agents themselves. And so if at a later time you try to create an acct of your own with Avis, you will not be able to do si using the same email address. Avis doesn't tell you this; instead of informing you you cannot use the email address, its website and app let you "register," only to leave you hanging because their own system reroutes emails to your travel agent. The app/most of the Avis reps won't tell you this as you navigate the app/speak with them online/on the phone. You will not be able to access any Avis reward points/frequent traveler program, etc. unless you provide them with a second email. You're told they've sent you a "confirmation email," when in fact they have not (they *cannot*, because in thier database your email address is tied to the travel agent). Luckily the last rep I spoke with explained all this to me.
Almost but just not quite. Would give it 5 stars but just a few minor big things. First they should let u add multiple Drivers on one account so that me and wife can accumulate together. Second, when trying to use free day points it doesn’t always allow me to go through with the reservation. I do the exact same length and time of my rentals when I do it so it’s not what I’m putting. It’s just the app some weeks don’t let us use our points and that can be also annoying when u have saved something up and planned to do something only for it to not be working that week. Otherwise great app easy to manage and scroll through
Rent from somewhere else. Avis/budget has gone downhill quick! Been renting AVIS for over a decade now, app used to work great and airport service was friendly and helpful. However, my last few trips have been a nightmare. The APP has not worked properly, nor does their website to manage a reservation I prepaid for. Most recently the Kona Budget desk team would not rent me the car I prepaid “disappeared for 20 minutes to talk to their manager” and returned to tell me to cancel my prepaid reservation and have my wife rent a car for 6X ($2,400) the price! Would not take us back to the airport in the shuttle and forced my family (including my 3 year old daughter) to walk back to the airport to get an UBER at 1 AM. Zero ability to contact a person on the phone or reach the KONA AVIS desk to resolve the issue. Never renting from AVIS/Budget again. Got a car from SIXT the next day with smiles and a reasonable rate.
Highly Disappointing Experience – AVOID at All Costs. My experience with Avis has been extremely frustrating and unsatisfactory. After more than a month of trying to resolve an issue with a security deposit that has not been refunded, the situation has only worsened. From the start, customer service has been problematic. Each time I contacted the company, I spoke with a different representative, and each had a different understanding of the situation. The information provided was inconsistent, and the arguments and values presented often contradicted what had been communicated previously. The lack of clarity and the disorganization in the company’s communication have been a true nightmare. Instead of finding a quick and efficient resolution, I ended up facing a maze of unmet promises and conflicting information. Therefore, I strongly recommend avoiding Avis for any transactions or services. My experience highlights a clear lack of professionalism and competence in customer service, leading to an unnecessarily stressful and frustrating situation. I hope this review helps others avoid the problems I encountered!!!!!!
Yet another dirty rental. Twice in a row I have received a rental car from Avis that had not been cleaned, didn’t even have the trash removed. This time though, the previous user smoked in the car, it reeked of stale cigarettes and ashes all over. This is not acceptable for a second time in 2 weeks. I called customer service because I was in a rush when I picked up the car and could not complain to the Avis rep at the counter. When I called customer service, they didn’t even take my name but said they would notate my account. I had to force the customer service rep to notate it so that I would not be charged the $250 fee for smoking in the car. Hope the previous renter gets charged. Also, the last time I rented a car from Avis and reported it not being washed, they said “We will be sure to train the person to not rent a non washed car”, this time I will be expecting some type of retribution for the inconvenience of having to wash my own rental car and trying to get the nasty smell out.
Can’t detect GPS signal. I tried dropping off my rental through the app but it never let me because it told me it couldn’t access the GPS, and it told me that it couldn’t tell if there was Avis location nearby while I was at the Avis drop off center. I had cellular data turned on, WiFi turned on and Bluetooth turned on. I was also connected to the WiFi network of that Avis location. And I had on my setting and changed location use to “Always allow” for Avis. My location services were turned on. And google maps could use my location and find me on the map. But Avis could not and I could not close the contract so they charged me a 3+ hour surcharge. Plus there was a huge line for me to be able to talk to anyone at the counter and once at the counter they couldn’t help me at all, nobody at the counter knew what was happening. I tried to pay with my physical card but it didn’t go through so I had to take the car back with me and drive home to get a different credit card. I lost half my day trying to avoid anymore late fees, but I ended up being charged for an additional 8 hours.
The Run Around. Avis rentals wasted soo much of my time and money, from the unreliable rentals given (2 system malfunctions rendered my 2 separate rentals to be inoperable in ways that you sent your servicemen to help “resolve issues” just to not fix anything and leave me in the same cycle to redo the exact same thing the next day, to then get it towed (this scenario happened twice, on 2 separate rentals..) for me to be charged for such, as well no reimbursement towards the rental, as well have be continued to be charged over a vehicle I have not had in my possession in over a month… I have lost thousands of dollars attempting to rent through Avis, let alone the time and energy spent just to be heard, and understood, let alone have any of my issues resolved. Thus here I am, making a public statement about such, so maybe my issues will be valued in was to resolve your customer experience issues (which I thought was the foundation of a Truthful company.)
Reservations “Not Honored”. This is a company that values some customers a lot more than others. I have a lot going on and regularly need to change plans to book flights and rental cars last minute. Today was the 3rd time I have booked a car with Avis (and Budget) in the morning to pick up at the destination airport later that evening… only to be told at the counter that “we didn’t plan well and are running low on cars — my manager is not honoring same day bookings unfortunately”. Why is it OK for a company to allow you to make last minute travel plans with them and confirm a rental car pick up— and then simply say oops we are out when you arrive in a new city?? I was told that people who booked months in advance would be priority for being honored. 1) Why are customers who have the need to make last minute travel plans valued so much less than customers who happen to have been planning a trip months in advance? 2) The real question is why guarantee a booking for someone online if there is any chance at all that they won’t be able to get a car when they arrive? I love Jetblue and love that I can get TrueBlue points with Avis and Budget, but I’ll be moving on from this incompetence now.
Room for improvement. I have tried using this app several times to reserve a car. The first time (last year) it kept informing me that the booking be completed. Out of frustration I finally called reservations on the phone. During the call I was informed that my reservation had actually gone through. However, I was unable to pull up the reservation in the app. The next time I tried using the app I became so frustrated I went to a different car rental company. This last time I tried reserving my car while booking my flight plans. The first attempt was unsuccessful. For some unknown reason I couldn’t finalize the reservation. I waited a few hours and tried again. I went back to my flight reservation and reserved an Avis rental car. I then went to the Avis app and my reservation was not there. I tried searching with my name and was told I did not have a reservation. No use having an app on my phone that doesn’t work. I certainly won’t recommend it.
Excellent and Easy Car rental Company. I have rented cars from several rental company’s over the years. Recently I decided to give Avis a try. I downloaded the Avis app and couldn’t have been happier with how easy it was to use. It gives several options to choose from on a variety of things. I reserved my car and basically walked into Avis and the employee asked my name, handed me the keys and my rental agreement that was already printed and ready to go. It was fast, easy and the employees (Virginia Beach Blvd location) were friendly and informative. I won’t use any other company except for Avis. I also have turned my family and friends into Avis. Thank you Avis for your customer service and for making my car rentals a quick and easy experience.
Ontario Airport Staff(Love Love the App). I have rented a lot of cars over the years but the Customer Service of the Avis Preferred Counter at Ontario Airport and the Avis Counter when Preferred is not available is awesome! They always take care of me one way or another. I love the way this Avis App is set up now that I know how to really pay attention to it I was going to the counter all the time not realizing my car was already available with the lane number, what type of car and the fuel status. Having this feature takes the guesswork out what your getting and if you need to make changes because it was not what you expected, the process at the counter is easier to adjust to accommodate you to getting into more of what you desire! Thank you Avis!
Poor service. Where do I start? Poor customer service after the morning shift. No Preferred or President line Rude staff and no visible ID tags. No on site or hands on manager. The manager I was told work remotely from Birmingham Al or Knoxville TN. The cars are almost never ready or cleaned and the servicing staff for the vehicles are lazy and there is a high turnover rate in that department and shortage of staff. The representatives are without working printers, lack of pens, Avis booklet covers, etc. Customers are going to other agencies while at the Airport for a car due to lack of availability. I’ve talked to several staff members and the morale their is at an all time high. Frustrated staff members with no management support and no tools will always yield poor customer service. Many times I’m always late for my business meetings due to waiting on a car or waiting for someone to check for keys or waiting for someone to clean the vehicle or waiting for someone to come in or the representative to get a break from the desk to go find a car. This is unacceptable. Today I have a vehicle not of my preferences/choice that I had to wait almost an hour after my pickup time to get. I’ve waited as long as 2 hours past my car pick up time. This is the ONLY location in Huntsville Al and it is at the airport. Please fix these issues asap because I’ve been a loyal customer for over 8 years and I have a business account with Avis. Thank You Mona J G4F729
Dishonest Company: Don’t Use. I rented a Jeep to drive it around to determine if I want to buy one. I did not take the jeep off-roading. I merely drove it around town while on vacation in Virginia (where is rains a lot). When they gave me the Jeep, the wheel well was already covered in mud. I should have said something, but I didn’t. When I returned the Jeep. There was a little bit of grass on the floorboards of the back seat from the kids shoes (from getting in and out of the vehicle for a whole week). They took 1 photo and duplicated it 3 times and then charged us $125 extra, for “sand” in the car. When we spoke to a representative about it on a recorded call, he agreed there was no sand just a little grass (we never went anywhere with sand) and it was the same picture duplicated. However the company decided not to do what was right, but to go after more money. They charged us extra for having to vacuum the vehicle, which is something they should be doing after each return. There was no extra work involved. There was just a little bit of grass on the floorboards. If you don’t intend to have the vehicle detailed before returning it, use another company. Avis care little about ethics, only about money.
Lancaster Ca Avis Avenue J. This is the best car rental business I have experienced in my years of travel for my job. Kaylee and Sheri are always here when I do a Saturday or Sunday pickup. They are totally organized and on their game at Superior customer service. When they are busy they always come out to acknowledge to everyone they will be right with us, they move the line very quickly together. These ladies also clean the cars!! The cars are always super clean and washed and ready to go. If you are tired of standing around at enterprise and waiting for a clean car long after you rented it. Go here!!! You will not be disappointed. I’ve been coming here for 6 weeks straight and they do not miss a beat here. Forever Lancaster Avis!!! On Avenue J.
Points. I reserved a car and after I use my points it came out to $134 and some change which I prepaid ..after my trip a checked my credit card to see if I was reimbursed for the hold and I see I was charged by Avis a full amount…I checked the app and the points weren’t applied I called them about this and they ask for email stating that points were used I told them I never received emails from them saying points were applied and this is my 3rd time doing so.. was told that I didn’t apply the points and therefore I can’t apply any points and refused to apply points since as they said rental is closed…I did my rental agreement just like I’ve done before and I questioned whether they had a computer glitch and both people I spoke with flatly said no…. I mentioned why would I reserve a car and not use my over 15,000 points…was told you just didn’t apply it …HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE..will not EVER tell anyone to use Avis…I Will you up these points and triple Check and then I’m Done
Avis customer service Auckland New Zealand. I never had so much grief dealing with Avis in New Zealand. I rented a car for 3 weeks and had to extend it by 2 more weeks so I called Avis and asked to extend. Avis representative in Christchurch New Zealand was very nice and cordial and confirmed I can keep the car for 2 more weeks at the same rate. Few days after I returned the car I was shocked when I received the invoice. Avis doubled my rate from the day I rented the car. I called many times arguing with customer service in Auckland that I was told the rate will not change. A few days after, I received a very frustrating email for a lady (I still have her email on file) from Avis Auckland customer service letting me know the rate is the rate and my request has been rejected. She also added I need to provide her with the name of the person I talked to to validate my claim. She implied I was lying. Im used to Avis in the US which would never do that to any customer. But I guess outside of the US, customers are at the bottom of the list. I’m going back to National!!!
The modern day?. We talk about technology what is it? Just gathering data for whose benefits? What good is it to go to t He site and try to do something no matter what is it suppose to be the convience n time n direct map to your needs with ease n simplicity? So my complaint is just give me one company that wll do this without wasting our time just to get one general question answer or straight to what you ask for without playing musical chair with different agents that don’t nothing about anything you are calling about without transferring to another of the same! I see a lot of wasted time being used n that means money is being fork out to something that is not even the road to its purposes? Or is it just data they after n by that just junk up of emails with the same around and around again. I just wanted to know where can I buy this item if available or whatever the best next avenue is please provide? Location, contact info etc., etc. that’s what I thought all this technology is for. Simplicity n convince and service to the need of that petticoat item or services we inquired about.
Return Car Feature is Poor. I was excited about using this feature as it saves time, especially with after hour returns. I dropped the car off at the airport. Followed all of the instruction. Left keys in the car. Then clicked on return car. I kept getting the error, “unable to return”. Refresh GPS. Now I’m sitting in the Avis parking lot. I can’t go nowhere else as they have the spikes so you can’t leave the parking lot. There’s no attendant there as it’s after hours. So I kept refreshing GPS all the way up into the airport and still couldn’t return the vehicle. This features needs serious work. The concept is nice and it will be a huge improvement when it works but currently it’s in a failed state. I missed the shuttle sitting there trying to keep refreshing the GPS. All apps has its bugs but this one is a big one that was offered to me and didn’t work. I got the notification to use it and it doesn’t work. What sense did that make? Fix the GPS problem and you can move on to something else.
Chaos. I am new to the Avis Preferred group but after 4 rentals, I am very much less than impressed with the service, the app, and the system. My first rental with Avis ,I waited 1 hr 45 mins in St Louis to get to the counter and had to wait an additional 30 mins for a car After I had reserved online etc. I had signed up as a preferred member. The following week in Indianapolis I was told Avis couldn’t rent me a car because the system showed I hadn’t returned my previous rental. 2 weeks later in San Antonio, the app alerted me that my car was ready the night before and to go straight to the preferred counter. When I landed, the app told me there were no cars available but to check with the preferred counter. I waited 30 minutes in line AGAIN and was told there were no cars available. When I gave my Wizard #, viola the car I had reserved came up and was ready. Am currently sitting waiting on a car after I had reserved is wizard# etc…. Strongly reconsidering my choice of change rental companies. BTW, came to Avis via the Capital One United Club MilagePlus card…

Wizard F5A15Z. I have just landed & picked up this car I reported on exiting the Avis Compound that the cars interior stank of smoke. I was informed politely that if I required another car it would take a considerable time. I chose to get to my destination in a timely manner. Unfortunately the odour in this car is very unpleasant. I am very disappointed
Road Side Service. Normally I have seemless service from Avis But.... Yesterday the trunk lock failed (with luggage and passport in side). 3 calls to the road side assistance resulted in extreme frustration and receivers who could not deal with the issue. Unfortunately the car had a Car# beginning with 4 not 9 (first they said not possible! But it had Hawaii plates) and they sent me to International center??? And then to an external service who obviously couldn’t help (think it was an emergency service!). Also they had trouble entering my international mobile number. Eventually I had to drive to LAX (nothing else open) and the boot was opened and the car exchanged. An extremely frustrating afternoon (and time wasting on my behalf). This was unnecessary. Login all wrong. When initially living in it asks for your email and password, if you already have an account. What they actually want is your Account number and password. From a company so big you expect something as simple as a field to be correctly labeled. The consequence was an hour wasted resetting password unnecessarily, multiple times. Very frustrating.
Great - Easy to use. Loved the app. From making the booking to returning the vehicle was easy, smooth transaction. My preferred vehicle ready and waiting for me in the allocated bay just as the app advised. No queuing required.
Will not load upcoming rental. I have to enter the confirmation number every time. When I look in the rentals screen it always says unable to find any upcoming rentals. It also says I can add my wizard number to the reservation but there is no capacity to do so. I may as well just print it.
Best of all rental car apps. All I can say is- well done. Having used most of the big name rental car apps, AVIS has got to be the best. Very easy to use and straightforward. Modifying existing bookings is very simple and intuitive. The designers have obviously used this app and thought it out well.
Unable to create account. I have an old Avis account linked to my email. I tried to use the app and it seemed pickup some things linked to my account eg old credit card and phone number(which is correct) but it would not accept my phone number! I tried dropping the ‘-‘ adding the zero back in etc but nothing worked. Error message was not helpful, just told me it was invalid without telling me why it thought it was invalid. Wasted my time!!
What is the use. Avis don’t care, you spend time to make a booking and show up as a preferred customer to your car not being ready, not available and have to make other arrangements. You talk to the Avis people and they are not interested, you leave messages in surveys to be called back to dead silence and neglect. One PERTH customer service even threatened to cancel booking if I did not like here trying to sort out a booking that was meant to be for 30 minutes prior even their own emails to customer service go unanswered
Useless. Doesn’t log in and gives the “you are using an offline profile” and directs to a page without any information on what TH that means. Useless piece of… Basic app functionality needs serious work done.
Broken App. Have tried and called many times about my app login details not working. Can log on to the website fine. But the app is broken and says call customer service. Call them and get stuck on the phone to have them reset my website details and tell me they have nobody that deals with app support. Have been loyal to Avis over the years, but the everything is apps these days when traveling!
Can’t Search for Pickup Location to Start A booking.. I mean, what is the point of this app if the most basic location search doesn’t work to initiate a booking. I tupe a City location and it consistently comes up with error. Completely and frustrating unusable
Avis Darwin. Very up to date online rental update options and car damage report with pictures, very easy and time saving.
APP is Appalling. The APP crashes frequently and while trying to update my profile it crashed after taking my credit card details. Really poor digital platform. No excuse in 2019 for this sort of sloppy service and waste of time. Messages to ‘ring Avis’ defeat the whole point of online service, convenience.
Rental. The service at the counter at the Brisbane International airport was fantastic.. I had a rental booked through the preferred member but it was at the Domestic airport not the International one .. I booked using the Avis app and it didn’t give you a choice of choosing ether International or Domestic so if you can fix it that would be great
Avis Review. I do a fair bit of business with Avis and this one was at very short notice. And now I have just added a day, the night before the vehicle was meant to be returned. Avis has been extremely accommodating. Thank you.
Receipt error. My receipt consistently gives an error. Very frustrating. Much prefer just a print out - this has happened before
Not a good start. Took two attempts to set up. Initially, it would not accept any state in the address, even though you could only select from a drop down list. After trying later in the day I succeeded in setting up an account. Really uncomfortable with the amount of info they collect Uploaded an existing reservation and was pleased to see that I would get a discount on it. However, despite 3 attempts (two with success messages and one with a “call us” error), it is still showing no reservations against my account.
Dirty car and tried to upscale up to make money. We arrived to pick up the car I had reserved- a BMW1 which I specifically requested as I needed a small car with room for 4 people and some luggage. I specified automatic with a GPS built in. On arrival I was told the bmw wasn’t available but a “luxury” Alfa was. I told them it was too large for the parking space and did not want it. Then I was told I would have to have the Audi 3. Then it apparently was having mechanical trouble- so did I want to pay more for the Alfa- no I didn’t . Somehow a Toyota CHR was available. All good. Then the upsell again to take out insurance . Down to get the car- it was dirty inside and out and the GPS was blocked. Back up to the office to get a small Garmin - not what I wanted because their visibility is poor - but all there was unless I wanted to pay more for the Alfa. I had booked months in advance and was very upset all round. I think a discount is in order for the mucking around and lack of service once it was obvious I wouldn’t give in and upgrade my booking .
Member since 2011. I’m preferred member. Why ? Because for work I used all rental services and found AVIS to be more superior at all stages—- bookings, service at counter, cars, easy to modify and always have enough vehicles. Frequent free upgrades are bonus.
Avis service and app. At majority pickup locations although I am Avis preferred my car is never ready/allocated for express collection. At Melbourne airport I waited 50 minutes to collect a car which was consequently allocated to another customer. The service at Melbourne airport was exceptionally appalling on this occasion and the attitude of the attendants was inexplicably unacceptable. The only airport the Avis preferred actually works and a car service is provided usually is Brisbane airport. Majority of my pickups at Brisbane have been flawless but occasionally the car is also not allocated and ready for pickup. One of the benefits of Avis preferred is free upgrades but every time I request an upgrade I am charged for it. On the app it does not give my the option to indicate or request my cat preference so it is also a process to get the car changed on pick up. I have added this to my online profile however it does not seem to be ever taken into consideration. Having been a Preferred customer for several years I must say the service has gradually declined and more noticeably this year.
Would not match name, ended up canceling and creating new account after 5 phone calls overseas. Would not match name, ended up canceling and creating new account after 5 phone calls overseas Get the bugs out if this app so it accepts the basics
Cumbersome - you broke the App. Disgusting. Difficult to use. Servers are almost always down. I stumble around in Avis’s butchered counter intuitive crumby interface until I get angry. I’ve been a long term Avis preferred member since 1989. But now I’m bailing out. Avis you shouldn’t have changed the App’s user interface. You just lost a customer. Your software engineers are immature idiots. GOODBYE 👋🏽
Unhappy. In my previous two trips with Avis I have arrived at the office to collect my car my name was not on the board and now car was allocated I have had to go to the office and wait in line for upto 20min to get the keys to my car All of the preferred be idiots don’t seem to be followed in Melbourne line is long lots of staff doing nothing and preferred customers are not getting the preferred treatment If this continues one more time I will change my supplier Avis is more expensive that other and for this I expect my car ready to go when I arrive and listed on the board Overall not happy with this service
Editing details. Have tried so many times to use the App functionality and change profile details for it to constantly redirect me to needing to call an agent who then gets me to email sales support… really poor
Great apps & user friendly. I’ve used the apps to book cars when we were travelling around USA. It’s a great apps to help is to book, pay & pick up the car is even easier if you have the Avis Preferred. The apps has all the information required about the car including the car rego number. This is handy at the time when you checked in to the hotel. Although booking everything using apps, we still received excellent customer services from the staffs.
Great update to the app. Having used Avis for business and personal rentals for the past few years I am enjoying the updates to the app. Being able to swap vehicles at the time of arrival is a good addition. App works well, and enjoying doing business with Avis.
A complete disaster picking up car at Charleston Airport. After arriving from a New York flight we queued for an hour at the Avis desk in the terminal only to discover that was the least of our wait. As a ‘Preferred Member’ I had expected to collect my prebooked car easily. We were then directed to join a group of about 40 other people, some of whom had been waiting 2 hours for their car to be brought around from some distant location. After trying to find an Avis rep to talk to and trying to contact ‘Customer Service ‘ we eventually were shuttled to a location about a mile from the airport to pick up our car, which wasn’t ready Staff said this was usual as they were constantly understaffed. It’s not their problem - Avis: would you like a pic of my cut up Wizard card? Never ever booking with you again
Good app. This app is easy to use and convenient, with a nice layout. A suggestion for improvement is better corporate integration. When searching for a booking made by an agent it doesn’t allow it to be added to one’s profile for easy access. Having this functionality would be a welcome improvement.
App is clunky. I can never actually use app to return vehicle, it keeps saying GPS doesn’t work. Also if there is damage on the vehicle on pick up, there is no way to deal with this in the app.
Great if nothing goes wrong. I have been using the Avis app for about a year now and everything has gone well until I wanted to modify a booking from overseas. It doesn’t work at all so I’ve had to make numerous phone calls even back to Australia to try and modify the booking. Even the operator in Australia couldn’t do it. So I go to the French website to call them they charge €0.15 per minute to ring them so after being on hold for 20 mins I gave up wasted $5.00 and rang Australia again.
CAPTCHA not working. When trying to reset my password you drive me crazy making me answer so many questions and then at the bottom ask for a captcha which didn’t appear on the screen! Overkill on the questions while failing on the basics of a functional captcha
Hurts more than Hertz. Creating an account kept crashing due to password error malfunction a no. of times so I had to keep calling the Avis support staff. The captcha on login sometimes does not work since it doesn't appear on the screen properly - expect to see captcha but it is not viewable. Sounds like app is in beta - Avis please try harder
Changing booking for extra 2 days. Changed booking for extra 2 days very easy to do
Login info. This app doesn’t seem to remember log in details. If that is so then why offer a remember me option on the front page?
When it works, it’s great….. For a global company in the service sector, it shouldn’t be as annoying & frustrating to get a key function like a booking reservation system to work. When it does, it’s great! When it doesn’t, wow! It is very, very “not great”!
Additional drivers. It should be possible to add a driver to a booking using the app. The app could send a photo of the drivers license and digital signature. That would be a huge feature.
Incomplete with errors. In some ways this app is great but where it really falls short is recoding the state of the car at pickup, and surprisingly every phone number in the contact section appears to be incorrect and/or incomplete. Fix those two things and it’s a 5 star app
Reservations. Has been very difficult to contact Avis or get information re our booking. Have currently been on hold for over 30mins to speak to an agent
Always awesome service. Hats off to Avis. Great service 100% of the time. App is also very user friendly. Highly recommended.
Easy App. Found it easy to understand and applicate the details .
So Efficient. Arrived at Adelaide for a last minute business trip and Avis was able to accommodate all my needs without any fuss. In, out and on the road within minutes - thank you!
Great Service. Even though using this app eliminates contact with your customer service agent, the experiences I’ve had so far has been nothing but a Great Service.
Modifying a booking. The new Modify a booking page is just so simple. Previously I had to call, wait for the manual calculation, listen and pay over the phone. Now, 3 clicks and all is good. Well done Avis techno people.
Good app, missing arrival modification. There’s no way to notify Avis if you missed your flight and are arriving at a later time. Otherwise, helpful app.
Locks you out every time. Once you’re in the app, it’s great to use but it keeps you logged out and gives you one attempt at remembering your password before it locks you out and you need to do a password reset. Super frustrating.
Useless - poor security. Apps’s useless as it does not support the use of a password manager with the keyboard and does not supporting pasting in the password field. Consequently the is forces the user to use shorter less secure passwords. My password with Avis via their website is 40 characters long and the app does not allow the entry of more than 25 characters in the password field. Consequently I cannot manually enter my password to log in to the app. Unfortunately with such poor security and design this renders the app useless.
Please hold my car. My flight from Gold Coast was cancelled this morning and I have had to wait 7 hours for the next flight. Thank you for holding my car for me I should be there at about 3.20pm cheers Greg Dixon
Avis all the way. The new app with select your car is brilliant for the busy traveller
App too difficult to log in with. I haven’t used Avis in years but booked a car for the weekend I didn’t know what my old password was or what a wizard number was. Tried to retrieve wizard number was told it was sent to my email address but nothing came and checked junk folder too. Rang Avis and was put to reservations and they didn’t know either so deleted the app as it’s too hard to use and now pointless having it
Apparently a glitch with the system. Web site won’t allow my wizard number Avis representative said there must be a glitch in the system but the price they quoted me was over $400 different to the web site, not much confidence in Avis or their web site.

Never work. Can not find location, can not complete the reservation properly with the application, Can not change a reservation, always an error at the end that prevents you to complete the change or reservation
Worst Car Rental Check Experience Ever. Communication is the key to any relationship. AVIS provide a great platform for their PREFERRED members through the app experience. With a confirmed reservation, on-time terminal pick up - disaster awaits. Finally after 2hrs of dithering, failing to take responsibility and apologizing. SUCCESS! At this location, after getting the paperwork completed in a reasonable time, it took the vehicle readiness crew 2hrs to ready the vehicle. Yes, the vehicle was on location and we were the first customer of the day!! Receiving reassurance every 30mins that the vehicle would be ready in 10mins..... Lift your game and be honest with your customers....
Never works.. When it does work it assigns you a vehicle that has already been assigned or tells you to go to the counter anyways which defeats the purpose.
No rental location at Billy Bishop airport.. It is impossible to make a revision either by phone or app once a car is picked up. Our problem arose because Avis confirmed car pickup at Billy Bishop airport where in fact, there is no pickup available. You get a shuttle to the nearest rental site. Because we didn’t know this we went to the airport and they could not find the shuttle so we ended up taking a cab. We then tried to modify the return location to YYZ but cannot modify at all. This means we have an additional cab cost. This is no way to treat a loyal customer.
App isn’t synced with user info. Log in and password works on the website; doesn’t work on the app. And calling customer service was no help at all. I don’t want to reset passwords when it’s working fine on one platform but isn’t on another.
Are you mad bro?!. I’ve been a loyal customer to Avis for quite a while and their prices were reasonable, but they’ve gone mad recently! You can’t rent a car for one day, as it will return a “no available cars at this location” but you can rent it for two or more days including the day on which no cars were available. I mean $180 per day for a Hyundai Elantra is 🤯. I’d book that if it comes with a complimentary breakfast, lunch and all you can use gasoline!
Long Wait for Preferred Service YVR. Too long of a wait
Horrible customer service. Warning, if you prepay for your vehicle a head of time. Your business trip gets cut short and you return your car a day or two early. They still charge you for the full 2 days that you returned the vehicle. Will never rent from Avis again!
Une app nulle alors. Excellent service en succursale par contre
Vraiment mauvais beaucoup de bugs. Mauvais
Très difficile de récupérer les infos. L’application est a peine en français, mal traduite. Impossible d’avoir du support ou de parler à quelqu’un
I rent a vehicle every week and get NO free upgrades. I will be renting at National or Enterprise from now on
Rate app. Terrible ap. Impossible to navigate b
Zip code keeps bugging making it impossible to modify my reservation. Ma
Great Service. Avis Managers, I recently rented a vehicle in Saskatoon (#968175666)and want to give a shout-out to your customer service representative Gurpreet Singh. He was very courteous and professional when setting me up with my vehicle, including accommodating me with my change in vehicle. It is for this reason I am a loyal AVIS brand customer. Frank Jantz
Love it, super easy 👍🏻. Super easy to use, no hassle, just great thanks.
Handy but glitchy. Some items allow you to change other such as preference of vehicle do not (even with an edit button). App needs better testing and bug fixes.
Where are my points?. Rented twice in the last 60 days. Don’t see my points anywhere. When I got to the booth they told me I had to call in to ensure my points went through. If you read this review I would like a call to straighten this out.
Not everybody pays in US dollars.. How can you possibly have not thought of currency options when showing prices???
App sucks. Try to get a receipt, it don’t work!
Layout. Another app where the log out is hidden. Poor design but all too common.
Worse app for signing up for account. I signed up for an account online. I then got the app for my phone and logged in. Most of the information was missing and after repeated attempts to re-enter credit card info and DL info, I kept receiving a message with “missing info”. A notification finally came up and advised that the info couldn’t be updated online and I had to call the customer service number. I did that. The very disinterested service representative told me that she could not do anything and I should delete the account and try again. I did this 4 times, after getting to the same point every time with the same message. 90 minutes of my life I will never get back.
Mr. Not impressed. Preferred client. Not only was I not offered a free upgrade. I had to ask. When I did I was told as I was renting the car for longer than 14 days it’s not applicable. It does not say that anywhere in Avis, if it does I’d like to see it. Even listening to Avis add as I’m waiting to speak to someone it does not say anything. I’ve also paid in full. I was told upon picking up the car owed nothing. Yet I see a $600plus charge on my card with no explanation!! I was also told I would be getting a substantial voucher from Avis for my next rental. I haven't received anything. Been holding to speak to someone for over 30 mins and still on hold. None of the phone numbers work to get a hold of anyone. Yet when you need to book Avis answers in seconds. So far not impressed.
Dry Disappointed. First time using Avis after being longtime Hertz customer, so many things went wrong. Couldn’t process car with app, had to go stand in Preferred line for 15-min+ in SFO. Took more than 10-min to process car. After return, app won’t generate receipt. Junk all around.
Does not work. It does not get your rental information and is giving me rates with the Wizard number that the avis rep cannot enter in the system. I just lost more than an hour of my time with this installing the app and multiple info they are asking and the being on the phone to end up managing my rental the old fashion way!
Best rental driving app on the market. With the combination of relationships and partnerships of Avis, Hotels.Com and Expedia, the world is yours! Great app that is user friendly and staff at Avis wherever you go are the best!
What a waste of time. You already have an account. Reset your password. Try to find “reset your password” on the menu. I tell you - what a waste of time
Ridiculous Company. Tried to book online, says the rental was automatically canceled. Twice. Had more than enough available credit. Best believe they grabbed my money off of my credit card before they let me know the booking didn’t finalize. They take the deposit for a vehicle I’m unable to rent and then tell me I have to wait a week to get my money back. Is it really that hard to conduct yourself as a half decent business that operates professionally. Even times I’ve actually receive the car from Avis, always had problems with misinformation and lack of professionalism. Especially over the phone. Plus the hold is 500$ now. For regular cars. Lol😂 Fleet at my location dwindled by min 80% seems like. Need I go on.
Poor app. The App does not allow to select return when you launch it or search for the existing reservation. Please take a photo of when you returned your rental along with photos of your rental condition.
Prior bookings. Difficult to find out how to input a prior booking for future pickup in London LHR
Avis app doesn’t work. Why do you have an app and offer car pick up if it doesn’t work. This is my 3-4 pick up at Montreal airport and it never worked. Waste of my time and energy.
Excellent staff at the Preferred Counter. Your staff are amazing and very accommodating when I pick up my rentals. Always going out of their way to provide the best service
Not recognizing Canadian ZIP code for payments. This is the second time that I tried reserving a car via the app and it doesn’t work - for the silly reason that the app is not allowing me to enter the Canadian ZIP code of my credit card. I rarely give the 0 star review, but there is little use of talking about the rental experience and car selection process of I cannot actually pay for the rental… I had the same issue with the AVIS app before and ended up with a different rental agency.
Sweetness. App is by far the best rental car app. So easy to use. Had to extend and it was silky smooth. A+
Saves time and Money. It is my go to app for car rentals. Easy, quick and transparent. Saves me at least half an hour a week in line!
Automatic charge in foreign currency. App does not remember your preference, can’t talk to agent
Couldn’t adjust my reservation in app. I need to add a day to my reservation and cannot get ahold of anyone. The app is not allowing us to do the modification and I cannot extend my rental on the website. Every phone number either rings on and on or hangs up on me or states the hours of operation as Monday to Friday. This is Saturday. Lots of people rent cars on the weekend. I am very disappointed in the company for the lack of service and misguiding information on the website.
Can’t extend rental on App. I wanted to extend my rental on the App but it wouldn’t let me and it did not explain why. As a result, I had to waste 30 minutes of time I didn’t have to spare, wait for an available agent on the phone….
Vasilis is the best. Kind polite knowledgeable and helpful
always getting ripped off. i hate avis
Always a problem when using the app. The app has given me major problems over the years including allowing me to book reservations in locations that have access to the public. This happened in Mexico twice. Now I can’t book because of two more problems. The app doesn’t recognize Canadian postal codes for billing. App is stuck asking for a country code and there is no indication where or what that is for. Tired of wasting my time with this app.
What status info?. It said I’d get info about my car in advance. Nope
Your Avis app sucks. Constantly locks me out and tells me my account has been disabled,
Options don’t work. Lovely idea, not great execution. Can’t modify anything on the reservation, yesterday my reservation didn’t even exist…
Best car rental company!. I've worked and travelled the world. Avis can be trusted to provide the best quality service and vehicles on a consistent basis at any location.
Useless App. I don’t think this app has ever worked right. Won’t let me sign in. Can do it on a computer no problem. What is this nonsense?
Terrible and useless. This app has absolutely no working features starting the day of the rental. If you have mechanical trouble do not try to use the application. So disappointing!
Excellent customer service!. Very helpful, especially Milena! Thank you to her and all the staff of Milano Malpensa Avis!
Postal codes. I've tried to book using this app and the Avis website (both on a laptop and mobile device) and it won't accept Canadian postal codes when entering billing information. Since it's a mandatory field, I can't book. The app is otherwise great, but if I can't book, it's useless!
When you’re Canadian the App sucks. No Matter what you do the it always ask for a zip code when we use postal codes very frustrating!!!

Unable to return my car using the app. I tried to return the car using the app and it would just say that it could not confirm my location at the facility. I called the Avis help line and talked to someone with chickens and roosters in the background who could not understand what I was telling him. Then he just put me on hole and I was suddenly transferred to someone else who had a hard time understanding me. He said that he sent the return info to somewhere. But as a result of the phone call I have received three copies of the rental contract and my car is still showing as not returned. The app works ok only some of the time.
Beware of Avis!!!!! Avoid them at all cost!.. Do yourself a favor and go with a different company Avis is vindictive. I reached out to them regarding missing rewards points I earned and to date still haven’t received only to be disrespected and berated..Don’t bother contacting them because the reps are rude and will make back end notes that affect your account reflecting in dramatically higher pricing, automatic unethical treatment when you call in, and limited vehicle availability. They manipulate their system to gouge customers for apparent retaliation. This company is a bunch of scammers and thugs. when you log into their app or web that doesn’t benefit you as your specific account marked by Avis resulting automatically in higher prices to purposely get back at you. They are shady, you will see over $100 reduction in price when you view numbers without revealing your identity.
Lack of Information. The app should state something to the effect of “please be aware that the first time you rent a car as a preferred member, we will need to run your credit card and capture your drivers license.” This will prevent the first time Avis Preferred member from getting off of the Preferred stop, only to find that their name may be on the board, but you still have to see someone at the counter because the car wasn’t assigned. They go to the regular counter, only to find that there is a Preferred counter in a completely different building. While the logistics of the buildings have nothing to do with the app, clear information about could provide a better user experience.
Otherwise great app easy to manage and scroll through
No words. This app is as bad as the growing incompetency of the company. Why are we all still here?!?! (My boss is a saddistic mule who prefers- awful customer service, incorrect billing, the “skip the line” farse....etc- over change). He spent 3 weeks trying to get a new password and change his primary email address (bc he got locked out of his account). I spent 5 hrs trying to set up an Avis for business account bc i was tossed around from one incompetent call rep to another. Its not so much that they were clueless but more so that they acted like they don’t get paid enough or trained enough to do their job..... But i digress— the app won’t let you change primary credit card; it autofills AWD with not associated with the account rather “guest”; you can not chose your car and the rate at which the app actually does one thing accurately is inconsistent at best. So again....why are we here?!? This company gets away with bad and the app is garbage.
App never works and terrible customer service. I have had the avis app fail time after time again. The app never works and leaves me stranded at the airport having to book last minute with another company. Do not trust or rely on this app. Prepaid for a reservation last weekend in New Orleans. I arrive and the app assigns me a car. The exit booth will not let me out because no car is assigned. I was then told to wait in a thirty person line serviced by one rude agent. I call customer service for help and they tell me they cannot assign me a car and cancel my reservation. I get an email from customer service saying that I will not get a refund because my reservation is canceled after my reservation started. What a terrible experience at midnight! Then I had to walk over to Hertz and pay $800 for a last minute reservation. Do not use this app!
Hmmm. Where do I start. I tried to add a credit card online, but it wasn’t accepted and I was told to call Avis. I gave the information over the phone, which didn’t work either. So I was transferred, two times. The new card finally showed up online, not as an additional card as intended but as a replacement, after which my new reservation no longer showed online. I entered the long confirmation number from my email receipt into the search box and got only a pop up warning that the pick up location does not exist. So I moved on to check my points. The box showed Plus, above Preferred, above the total, but the box below it said Plus would be achieved after 25 rentals. I counted 21 rentals in my online history. So I have no idea whether I have Plus or not. I know I should call again, but I don’t care to waste another hour.
Awful!. Awful awful awful. Rented a car last week. Did prepaid option. $469. Turned it back in and was charged another $110 for a 1 day rental, with no prepaid shown. Now I have to call Customer Support to get this fixed. Presidents club has our own line, great! They can’t help and transfer me to another department. Explain it again. They don’t see the $469 at all. It’s sure still on my credit card bill though. They are going to transfer me to a supervisor. It goes straight to a voicemail that I should leave my name, phone number, and case number (I was not given one of those if you’re still reading) and someone would call in 24 hours (I’m sure at a convenient time during my conference tomorrow). It’s still not fixed and I am going to spend more frustrating time on the phone at some point in the future, or give up and never rent from Avis again. Not good customer service by any measure.
Great for renting, bad for return. The app works great for renting a car, confirming car selection etc. my only complaint is that the ability to change credit cards for return doesn’t work. 1. I have personal and business cards entered into my profile, you would think it would let you simply chose “Personal Card” when returning, it doesn’t, you must completely enter the card information. 2. When entering the above information, the scan with camera feature doesn’t work. I get a complete green rectangle around the card image and the app just sits there. 3. Manually entering the CC data has never successfully worked for me. I get an error, yet presenting that same card at the counter always works. Would love for Avis to fix these things.
Avis rents unsafe vehicles! Read below!. I've been an Avis client for decades. You rented me (I still have it) an extremely UNSAFE vehicle that put my life & my whole family's life in danger last night. I always rent from Avis & the cars are usually in good shape, but this Jeep Cherokee you rented me (w/57k miles) has BALD TIRES. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I realized this when I was driving my family in light FL rain at 25 mph in a 30 zone, and the car completely spun out into oncoming traffic as it had ZERO traction. Luckily the driver coming toward me swerved, and when we both got out (everyone was shaken up) they pointed out that this car should have had new tires put on 20k miles ago & they're bald! I cannot believe a company I trust so much completely dropped the ball and I am having a HORRIBLE CLIENT EXPERIENCE. Please someone get back to me as I have to drive this car back to MCO and I am deathly afraid to drive this utterly unsafe death trap.
Horrible customer service. I rented a car in Connecticut and was wickedly over charged and on top of that I was charged a late fee because I kept the car a couple days longer as my car was still being worked on. I bought a second car because so I can avoid renting from a company that gave poor customer service as well as over charged me. I am a preferred member, and when I wasn’t able to find a car I knew a scam was in the making. So basically in Connecticut if you are a preferred customer you get a discount with Avis , and pretty much it works wherever you go, but in Connecticut it seems they have discovered a way so preferred members can’t find a car if they use their membership number, so the members are now forced to go straight as if they don’t have a membership, and that’s how they over charged me at the Farmington Motor Sports.
Avis damage scam at OGG airport. Spent 10 wonderful days in Maui for a family members destination wedding, only to watch our family members get “taken” by Avis. When our trip was over and we went to drop our car off at the airport location, we were told that we damaged the car. I’m so thankful for the video I’d taken of the car when we first picked it up because I was surprised at how horribly damaged it was. The employee demanded I show the video to get out of all fees. She watched about 2 seconds of the 45 second video before she said "fine". She wasn't interested in seeing my video and me having it didn't allow her to proceed with her scam. As we were siting at our gate getting ready to fly home, one of our family members shared with us that they were furious that Avis is holding hem responsible for damage they didn't cause. They were so upset, especially after two more family members said the same thing had happened to them. Each of the 5 cars we returned were accused of damage. Coincidence? No way! We are absolutely disgusted in what they're doing at this location. It's obviously well planned out, as we all checked our cars in within 5 minutes of each other and had different employees doing it. Shame on you Avis OGG.
Worst reservation experience. I had an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience with Avis. I booked a car at one location expecting the reservation to be honored, but instead I was sent to three different locations. I had to pay for cabs out of my own pocket just to keep chasing a car that Avis had already confirmed but clearly did not have available. What made the experience worse was the complete lack of coordination and responsibility. Avis did not properly verify inventory before confirming or redirecting me. Each location I was sent to was sold out, which wasted my time, money, and energy. This is completely unacceptable from a company that is supposed to provide reliable transportation. A reservation should mean that a car is actually available, not that the customer is forced to run around the city from one location to another with no solution. The staff and system showed poor communication, poor inventory management, and no respect for the customer’s time or expense. This was one of the worst rental car experiences I have ever had. Avis failed at the most basic part of the service: providing the car I booked. I would not recommend Avis to anyone unless they are prepared to waste time, spend extra money on transportation, and still end up without a vehicle.
Be careful when Returning Rental. I rented a car from Avis on Friday June 28th and returned it on Monday July 1st, just like you I got it and it is July 10th now, they still haven’t closed the rental out. They’re charging my Credit Card as if I’m still in the vehicle. My contract said I was driving a silver truck and it was white. I’ve called several times and went back to the location. Nothing has happened, I’m constantly getting the run around about maybe tomorrow it will be closed out. There’s still pending charges I didn’t authorize on my Card. So be careful when returning! They’re to busy doing Tik Toks, when they need to be checking the vehicles in properly. I’m destroyed over this!
Go Lucy B.. I was in line awaiting my turn at the counter at the Atlanta rental car center. There were approximately 6 people in front of me. It was taking unusually long for the people at the counter to get their cars. I thought they were just too chatty. Finally when it was my turn, Lucy greeted me with a smile and told me that it may be a few minutes because the my car wasn’t ready. They were running a little behind. In the mean time she encourage me to download the Avis app and since I was already a member, to update my profile. She made waiting pleasant with a big smile a great customer care. Lucy when your boss sees this, you have some explaining to do! ;-) Sincerely, Carlos Henriquez Preferred Member C9E513
Had for years, never works right. I have been a loyal Avis member for several years. Over 30+ rentals Over that time. The AVIS app is awful and I don’t understand why. This is literally the thing driving me towards a competitor most likely. The UX/UI isn’t good, it never matches with reservations I make online under the same account/user ID #, and I have never been able to just walk to the car with the app, despite being a preferred member and doing all the things I am supposed to. The reservations I have, when they do appear in the app, always disappear and I have to go hunting thru emails for confirmation numbers. I could go on and on, but overall, when this is the most customer engaging part of your company, it’s bloody terrible.
You need to start over. After I signed in on the mobile app, where I was properly identified (been a member for at least 15 years), I searched to find how many reward points I had earned/saved. That information was not ‘readily’ available and maybe not available at all. I was invited to ‘ask a question’ - which I did was thinking that someone would respond to - telling me where to find my reward points- and then how to use them. At the bottom of the question box, before the Send button, there was a notice that Avis does not respond directly to questions submitted in this manner ???. No live chat, no auto answer to what must be a VERY common question, so way to get an email response to a simple question, and the absence of useful data on the member’s app. I think it could be time to bring in a new app developer.
Terrible customer service. I spent the last two hours going back and forth with customer service to try and log into my app. They were extremely unhelpful and continued to misgender even after I corrected them politely several times. Being forced to change my password seven times only to be locked out immediately after trying to use the new password. It was very frustrating. I did finally get into my account, but fear we are going to have to do this all again soon because now I don’t remember which of seven passwords was the one that finally worked.
Terrible service. I have multiple names and I’m unable change them in person at a counter, over the phone, or on the app. If m names don’t match in my account, I’m not even able to cancel a reservation or edit it. It’s very frustrating and I strongly suggest people go to hertz. Their customer service is way better and they actually make you feel like they want your business. I’m very disappointed in Avis and the long wait times of over 40 minutes just to inform me they can’t help and that I need to send an email to change my information even though I’ve been with Avis as a loyal customer for over 10 years. Very disappointed and will most likely only use Avis as a last resort. If you have multiple names, Avis is a difficult car rental place to rent from. Be sure all your information is correct.
The worse experience!!. I reserved an SUV to be picked up at the Lowes Hotel Coral Gables Florida. The day before I was to pick up the car I called to verify the reservation I was told my reservation had been canceled. I don’t know why because it wasn’t me. I spent an hour on the phone with Avis reconfirming the reservations. It was reconfirm. When I arrived at the Lowe’s at 8 o’clock in the morning to pick up my vehicle and nobody arriving, I called Avis only to be told that the location they had given me to pick up the car was not an authorized location, even though it was confirmed in my reservation with Avis by the Agent in the text message they sent me and the email confirmation. This has been a nightmare as I don’t have a vehicle now I was supposed to pick up people at the airport and head to a 6 Hour Drive. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had in my life with a rental car company. Goodbye.!!!!!!!!
Poor Service. I just signed up as an Avis Preferred customer and reserved a SUV pickup at the JIA airport. I had to walk inside to the counter, walk outside to the booth, then walk all the way to the very back of the parking garage. (So much for being “preferred”). Then, when I finally got to the vehicle, it was dirty both inside and out. The first person in site who worked for Avis didn’t speak English, so he summoned a lady over who them walked away to get someone else. A guy came back with her and took the vehicle to wash it. She said he’d be back in 10 minutes, however, if I preferred to exchange the vehicle, I’d have to walk all the way back inside the airport because they don’t have computers outside. Last week, I rode with Alamo at the Ft. Lauderdale airport and experienced EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have appointments today and am now late due to Avis’ incompetency. The lady offered no apology, no seat, no NOTHING. I am HIGHLY UPSET with my first experience with Avis.
Car Return. I joined Avis preferred for the first time. When we arrived we were sent to our car and there wasn’t a car there. Then we were given a different car. This car sounded like it was going to fall apart after we had already arrived at our destination. The rear axles made a terrible vibrating sound and didn’t feel safe. We had to return the car in the middle of our vacation. I called and reserved a car for return and they said they would have the exact car for us. We arrived this morning and it wasn’t there. They said we had to wait for a similar car. Obviously, there were many other SUV’s available just sitting there. They may have been a little more expensive, but I would think customer service would give us that after what happened with our original car? Kind of not great service to me? Thanks, Donna Mosher
Locked out Persistent Issue. My account is continually “locked out” on the application. Resetting my password over and over. Calling only gets me sent a new password reset and I still cannot access the app. Can access the full website with each new password. Never the application. Called before, during, and after trips and the only response is the same response, over and over. “All we can do is send a password reset”. The perfect example of what it feels like living the definition of insanity, “ Doing the same thing over but expecting different results”. A few months ago I was told, “ We’re aware of this and fixing the app now, give it an hour and try again”. When I responded that this has been an issue with my account on the app for over a year now and my colleagues were not having the same problem the person hung up on me.
Don’t bother - they don’t honor reservations. I had a reservation to pick up a car. I travel for business and rent cars multiple times per month. They called me to say they had 1 car left and it was a minivan, not the car class I reserved. I told him I would be there in 3 minutes, and when I walked in the door he said he already rented the van. Reservations and long standing preferred member mean nothing to this company. They could rent the van to someone paying the higher rate (because of their mistakes I would have been charged my full size sedan rate), so he quickly rented it out to make more money. Went right around the corner to the amazing E company with a green sign and they were welcoming (not condescending like Max/Mark from Avis) and got me right in a vehicle and on my way. Will be cancelling all my future reservations already on the books with Avis, and using the other company.
App is problematic. I on a regular basis have to reset my password to get the app to work when arriving at airports. As you will see, I travel often so it’s troubling. When I call in it is rare to get good customer support. Two calls ago your staff could care less if I moved away from Avis. As a business person I can’t imagine your leadership feels that way about their loyal customers, I know I don’t treat mine that way and far too often I have to fix what “customer support” breaks. The last call the representative not only fixed what the previous rep wouldn’t, couldn’t or had no idea how but she also had a good attitude. Wade H 4RF72K
Ridiculous operations management. I had a reserved pick up for 3:30am. I arrived 10 mins early to find no one at the counter. I then had to wait 40 mins for someone to show up. I called customer service twice during my wait and one of them actually told me that I just have to wait with no other assistance. After the 40 min wait 3 Avis employees show up together. They told me they were on break and forced to take breaks at certain times. Even though they had a print out on the desk that clearly said I was picking up at 3:30am, ALL THREE of the employees took a break at the same time. Truly unacceptable and weighs heavily on my future rentals. What’s the point of being a Preferred if your treated like you don’t even exist. By the way, the three employees could not care less and presented as if this is normal for people to have to wait for them. If it’s true to have all employees break at the same time, the management seriously needs to be re-evaluated.
Horrid - find a different rental car company... for good.. I have been a preferred member for over a decade. This is the last time I’ll ever rent from Avis. My first car had a flat tire within 24 hours. Avis emergency services pointed me to a close location and said they have a car for me. Nope, they have no cars and point me to the airport, a call will be waiting. Nope, I have to get in line. The line at Avis counter at the airport is literally 200 angry people long and a two hour wait. They give me a new car, and I go to leave the parking garage, and the battery in the car is dead. Nope, back to the line says the unhelpful Avis person in garage. Back to Avis counter for another car, finally works. I’ve lost two days when I’ve supposed to be working, and I’ve talked to Avis on at least 8 telephone calls and seven exceptionally unhelpful employees. Boycott Avis and all subsidiary companies; horrid customer service.
Avis loses again. I just became Avis Preferred Plus and thought I’d give them a try as my 2 day rental ATL was $10 less than my normal National rental. I am Executive with National. The Avis app said I had to go to counter I assume because first time I used Avis in a long time. I get to counter at 11:55 pm with long line. My wife notices we can go to preferred counter in the garage. We head there and arrive at counter at 12:01 AM. I see someone inside but everything is dark. I walk around and get the attention of a clerk who informs me the counter closes at midnight. Nothing on the sign says this. We proceed back to line inside. There are 6 clerks helping others. As each customer finishes, the clerk packs up and leaves. Once down to 3 clerks, I reserve a car with National and cancel my car with Avis. 5 minutes later, I am driving out of the deck with my National rental. Avis is awful.
Stop erasing login information when app updates. This dev team does what every dev team does when they don’t talk to their CS department. Listen. When you update an app, make sure that the login email is saved for the user. What happens is the user forgets what email they used. Tries a bunch. Gets locked out of their account. Can’t reset the password. Calls CS who can’t do anything because the customer doesn’t know their ID (because they’re locked out). Waits on the phone for 30 minutes. Turns into an hour wasted just because AVIS’s head of IT security thinks he works at the federal reserve and not on a loyalty program. Please hire a competent UX person and redesign your entire flow. While I’ve typed this all out, I’m still on CS holds even though I’m “presidents circle”. Guess I just hang up and book with Hertz since I can’t even get into my account to book a reservation.
Terrible customer service!!. I have never been treated more rudely by a company in my entire life. First of all, the van made an incredibly horrible noise, which we called about right away. We were told to bring it back if we weren’t happy, or we could exchange it a couple hours away. After many attempts to contact the next Avis pick up spot, we were transferred over and over and never got any resolution. Thankfully, the noise was just annoying and we never broke down, but the customer service on that was very sad. Upon returning the van, I found that we were incredibly overcharged. After calling, I found out that because we picked the van up early, by an hour and a half, we were charged an entire full days rate!! Had I known that, I never would’ve picked the van up early! I had called the national number to ask about getting the van early, as it was more convenient but not a necessity, and was told absolutely, you can pick it up as long as it’s there at your pick up spot. I called the rental directly at the Bangor international airport, and was told yes, it is here you can pick it up at any time. And then again at the counter the salesperson, Caleb, never mentioned that we now had to have the van back by 5 o’clock or we would be charged an extra day. Three different chances, and there was no communication. I am very, very disappointed as I have used Avis several times. I am a preferred customer, and the girl I talked to on the phone used that against me! Saying, if you are a preferred customer you should know our policies! We were also charged an additional $116 for Refueling, even though we returned the van full, and that was refunded, but after much grilling about where I got the gas and how much I got and how much it cost! I asked to speak with someone else and the girl said, “someone like who??”, In a very rude tone. The man who came back on the phone offered me a free day rental at another time. But he said the charges were valid and he could not help me. Unbelievable.
True User Friendly App. The Avis rental app is one of the best apps I’ve ever used. It has clearly labeled links to navigate to where you need to be. It even shows what your previous rental vehicles were. This has really been a help to us, as we have purchased two vehicles (one from Avis Sales and one brand new) based on our experience renting them. It makes reserving a rental easy, plus there is now a way to modify your rental: extending a rental is as easy as selecting the modification link, change your return date, verify the original cost, the extension amount, and new total, and then save it. Easy Peasy! I wish ALL apps were as user friendly as Avis has made theirs.
Items left behind. I left behind my medication in a black bag. I know it was in the car on my way to drop it back off to the CMH airport facility because I used some of the meds on the drive to the turn in location. When I got through check in I noticed my med bag missing. I know it was left behind in the car. It matched the black interior and I overlooked the black med bag. I immediately began the process through Avis to retrieve my meds. After several days I received an email stating my medical bag was not found. When I spoke about this to others at work, they said the same has happened to them. Avis has never ‘found’ their left behind objects and I should consider my meds never to be seen again by me.
