Great to play again. Of course listening to the reviewers with no imagination you can see they likely don't read books either. Oh my no graphics what will I do!

Flick the switch on the wayback machine. I played a couple text games on a apple II when I was a kid. I never played this one before so this is great. Low tech meets hi tech.

All text. If you're unfamiliar with the original (as I was) this is game is entirely text-based. There are no graphics, sounds or actions. The game will tell you what you're doing and what's around you, such as "You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building." You enter text into the field (1 or 2 words at a time) to move the action forward. After fifteen minutes with the game, I still had no clue what was going on. If you like D&D or the original Advent, go for it.

Memories.... The first time I played this, there was no CRT display. I dialed into a time sharing session from the teletype with a paper printer displaying my input and the hosts output. You could save programs on punched paper tape to reload later. xD

Fix glitches. I think that this game is a great idea. I like the text only interface. However, there are far too many glitches. If I enter a room, it will tell me that there is silver in the room twenty times. When I go to pick up the silver (which I already did last time I was in the room), it says that I see no such thing. Other than that, it is a great game. Please fix the glitches!!

Awesome. Great. You have to give commands to eat and stuff. You use your BRAIN to figure out what to do, but not like a logic puzzle, like you're actually having the advent. Great fun, Get it!

Great game. This game is lots if fun. If you get stuck though, they have parts of the solution online. Don't let the flashlight batteries die.

Great game with one minor issue. I definitely am not old enough to remember the text adventures, but that doesnt mean that they can not be fun for me. When I first got this game I didnt expect much from it, but I turned it on and gave it a try. Once I finally found a way to actually get inside of the cave, I was taken to a world that could be anything I wanted it to. I like the updates from this game from the older versions such as being able to type in "downstream" and it takes you downstream. The only problem that I found with this game, and the only reason it is not five stars, is the fact that a bug crashes your game and your whole ipod. You cannot get very far into the game before you have to start over again. If advent can fix this bug so there will be no crashes I would definitely give it five stars! Vote yes if you agree to fix the bug!!

Good conncept, but... There is simply too much guesswork involved. I would like this game better if it gave a little more direction and didn't apologize before reciting a shortened description.

Fun, but freezes iPod. This is a great app and i was really enjoying having this classic on my iPod touch but once you get to a certain point in the game it freezes my iPod every time :( you may not want to download this if you are the type that if you start a game you like to finish it

For the oldsters only. I spent hours with this game back in the 80's. I'd get called at 1 am to fix an 0C7 and while waiting for the job to complete, I'd play Adventure. For those who remember, it's a hoot. Was soooooo glad to see it here. But if you've never seen it before, you might not quite understand. This is ancient technology, but far more challenging than stoot-em-ups. You actually have to think and reason and use logic in the game. So far, looks just like the original.

Bug. There’s a big when u try to water the plant

Great. I am not old enough to remember it, but I've played the original. The only annoying thing for me is when I attack the snake it doesn't say "with what, you're bare hands?" Other than that, the game us great. If you want to know what a real adventure was (or what it was to people in '82) play this game. If an update with sideways typing comes out, I will give it a 5.

Good but needs fixes. This is the newer version of the classic rpg text game with the safe in the building. It is a great game, and this rendition works fairly well, though I have found two glitches so far... 1) the supposedly correct combination (the date found on the tall tree in the forest) doesn't work to open the safe, unless you do it first thing after looking at the tree, and 2) there is no way to manipulate water, so no way to put water in the pitcher to save the rose, for example. The classic command for this is PUT WATER IN PITCHER, but this command doesn't work where it is supposed to work. Also, game stops working if you try to WaTEE PLANT. Hard to finish the cave this way!

Great game! Now we need Rogue and Larn too. Now all we need are Rogue and Larn - If you don't know what I'm talking about you sure missed out on 80's Unix computer games. Rogue and Larn were graphically based games using character graphics. There was a VGA graphical version of Larn for Windows and that would be great on the iPhone too.

Awesome text adventure. Never played this type of game before, so I was confused at first. But if you just google "adventure game", you can figure out what to do pretty quickly. There's even walk throughs to help out newbies like me.

Adventure Old Times !!. This is an excellent and unique idea concerning the iphone. The person who had written this app is a genius. Try this application and keep it to the iphone. It will keep you company at lonely moments. Thank you for the nice application.

I love it!. On a whim, I searched the App Store for my favorite text adventure from my mainframe support days in the 80's. I was thrilled to se it here, and this is it in all of it's mind immersing glory.

Fun. I give this 5 stars because it does what it is, a free text style game that works just fine on my phone, I think it's fun alittle hard at times but fun.

Old School Fun. I never played this specific game when I was a child but I was introduced to text-based games when I was 5 years old. I had an Atari and a Nintendo but just couldn't seem to drag myself away from a text-based game that actually made me think instead of just sitting at the tv mashing buttons. It's absolutely GREAT that someone brought a classic to the iPhone. I had always wanted a chance to play Colossal Cave and now I FINALLY got a chance to. I am now 26 and still enjoy the old-school command-prompt games. PS: If you're not using your immagination (yes, a game that actually makes you think) AND you're not writing things down, you will get lost and frustrated VERY easily. Takes a lot of patience and a lot of mistakes to get anywhere in these types of games. :)

Great Game from the Past. I remember this game from my first incarnation of playing on a Honeywell Terminal back in 1978 (Paper Feed). I am not sure if this is the same creator, but I think it is....I played this game in Madison Wisconsin on the city mainframe TSS. I actually got to speak to the creator on the phone back 30 years ago with some questions about the game. This game spawned my interest in programming and PC gaming. I am glad to see that it has made it to the iPhone even after over 30 years of age. I downloaded it today for some great memories of the past. It may be kind of old in comparison to what is out there now, but this is what started it all....please keep that in mind. Thanks guys, and I hope you read this from an original player from the past.

Yay!. Great classic adventure game - free! Two non-issues: first, go east to a new location, then go back west. The few times I tried this, I was not in the place I should be. Second, I echo another review - if possible, it would be nice to keep the keyboard on (as an option) and possibly create a cache of already-used commands so you didn't have to retype.

Unhappy. When I first purchased this game I was VERY pleased, as it was the original game I knew and loved and was thrilled to have it. Unfortunately it has been "upgraded" to a different version and I am now very unhappy. I've lost the game I wanted. I wish I had known, I wouldn't have taken the "upgrade". I wish they had released this "new" and different version as a seperate app, so we could keep the original if we wanted. I want the OLD GAME BACK! Text? You mean I have to read??. C'mon people. Why re-release this? Why re-release Shakespeare? Why all those countless movie adaptations of Jane Austen novels? OK, I admit, I have to wonder about that one myself. This is the precursor to all the modern MMORPGs and others. Yes, the game is old and clunky, and without a keyboard it is quite tedious. If you have never played this classic adventure game, do it on a real computer with a real keyboard. But as far as a free iPod game goes, this is a great port.

Classic text adventure reborn. This is a very good copy of humungus cave. However it is not the original adventure, it is as stated humungus cave. That is the name for the 1000 point version. However only four stars due to the "put water in pitcher" glitch.

Adventure. Wow...this is a trip down memory lane...I played this on my IBM computer back in the stone age....I'm in a maze with twisty passages all alike... If you never played a text game, try this...the amazing graphics are produced with your imagination...the better your imagination...the better your graphics card. Google Infocom...another set of text games that kept me up all night as a computer geek teen. :)

Yuck Interface. Like adventure. Would like to play it again. Totally yuck interface. Yes, I know it takes a text input but every command, tap the box, wait for the keyboard to pop up, type a direction, click return. Painful as you type directions to navigate around. Should either leave the keyboard up all the time and/or include a compass of arrows to do simple navigation. Don't mind typing free bird but I do mind 3 clicks to type n every time.

Wow. This game truly is a great game. This was the first text adventure game that I had ever played, and it was great. I played the game for about a half hour or so, and when I unlocked the grate in the river and dropped down, I walked down the tunnel until the game said that a giant snake was blocking the path. When I typed "n" for north, to run back the way I came, my iPod froze. For four ducking hours. I had to sit there and wait for it to die before I could plug it back into the charger and boot it up again. Did anyone else have this problem? I would love to play this game again, but I'm afraid it might freeze again. Still a fun game though. I've downloaded this and other text adc

Why?. Why can't u go into the building any more u say enter building and it says "what?" and it doesn't understand downstream either u should bring back the old commands,

Good version of a timeless classic. The Original Adventure (or advent) is a classic from old-school computing. The very first example of the genre of Interactive Fiction, reproduced in all its glory on your iPhone! Automatic game saving is included. Even the background picture (two hiking boots) shows attention to detail. It's not green text on a black screen, but in all other ways, the game is as you remember it from long, long, ago, back when Federal Gravitation Laws required you to walk uphill both ways to school. Download it already! It's free, and (let's be honest here) it's not really a computer if Adventure doesn't run on it.

Well It's A Text Adventure Game.... Sadly, many people nowadays fail to enjoy these kinds of games, so I think a lot of people aren't going to like this much. However, if you remember the original, or you're younger but easily amused (like me), you'll probably enjoy this. I knew it was a text-based game when I downloaded it and thought it would be incredibly boring, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it pretty fun. However, I don't ever play video games, so I'm sure that makes a difference. I'm sure my younger brother, who loves video games, would get bored with this game after about five seconds. But if you think it might be mildly entertaining, I suggest giving it a try because you might enjoy it more than you think. (Plus it's free, who can resist that?)

Historical game. This is the game that launched a hundred subgenres. It later was commercially rewritten as zork, with probably half a dozen rewrites in between. Is it playable? You'll need patience and cleverness. And you'll need imagination, like reading a book instead of watching tv.

Great Game, Plz Fix. This is great game for your imgaination and ingenuity and problem solving. That said, its not for the fainthearted but their is plenty of help, thanks to the interent (when you really get stuck), something we vetrans didn't have. Note, this 1,000 point version has a few different tweaks, so even if you knew the old 320 pt version, you won't be able to blitz through the game that easily. On the other hand, the game's natural setbacks or fustrations (like the maze, the villains ) are now easier to deal with. Now, the previously reported the water bottle bug is a major concern. Please don't be cruel and leave us with some of the dead ends like the 1st version 320 pt game left us. I have a 35yr score to settle and your continued donation of support will be loved.

I no like read n thinkie. This almos as bad as movie by beavis n buthead "idiocracy" or Wall-e. All i want is to wack snakes with sticks+1 preferably powerlevel healer help me. :( oh just typing hurts why'd seacular power teach Ug to read n right but not spelunking ironie or satyr

Remember the Commodore Vic 20?. I first played these types of games on the Vic 20 and became hooked on them. So when I saw this game in the App Store I had to have it. This is a must have for any fan of this type of game. If you haven't tried a text adventure game, give it a try, you might just like it. Besides...it's free! And what could be cooler than having a game this old on one of the most sophisticated pieces of modern technology like the Ipod touch and the Iphone?

Old timer. Wow.. i think the last time i played this type of a game was back in the early 80's on either a DEC Vax system or Perkin Elmer unix box. With only terminals back then, this game was popular for sure. INFOCOM i think was the other company that made Zork series for Apple II's. I like the idea of bringing it to the iPhone platform but without a good keyboard for input, I think this game will suffer playability. I would have love to see at least the directional buttons for compass directions as well as maybe some of the common commands such as Take, Look, Drop, etc. which would have made this game more playable on the iPhone platform. Its nice to see this type of game but only give 3 stars due to the user interface.

Still can’t water the plant. Play button fixed, but still can’t water the plant with bottle of water, unless I am doing something wrong. I’ve tried every command and even tried to use the stone pitcher.

The ancient classic lives!. This brought me way back to a computer lab late one night (ok, several night) in 1980... Still the same! I am glad the writers didn't add graphics, it would ruin the experience. Still, a little scrollback would be welcome. Hooray!

Idk why this game is so fun. But it is... I've hated text based games my whole life. But when ur bored and u dnt have worldof world craft. This is the next best substitute. It has dwarfs and dragons and lots of puzzles. Ives died 3 times in the past 4 hours. The one thing I'd change is the word recognition. For ex. The game doesn't understand the phrase "use key" that's the annoying part(s).

Buggy. I have experienced bugs that cause repeated listings of room contents and force me to scroll to the end of the buffer after each command. It would be nice to have landscape mode and keep the buffer above the keyboard (so it isn't covered while typing). I appreciate the developer's effort to port this classic game, but the bugs are keeping me from enjoying it.

Close, but no cigar. I was looking forward to reliving my youth and playing advent once again. I was especially looking forward to playing the fabled 1000 point version, since I've already played the standard 350 point version, the enhanced 550 point version, and even a rare CDC NOS (Brass Hatch) version from the early 1980's. The good news is that this is a nice implementation for iOS. The bad news is that it's very buggy. Not crashing buggy, which I could live with, but game logic buggy. Some parts of the game just don't work! It seems that the original parts of the game work correctly (so far), but some of the extended game is broken. The rose puzzle doesn't work, for example. And lights are inconsistent (candles don't work in places, but the lamp does). I've also run into a bug where the inventory shows you a full bottle of water, but the game treats it as empty when you try to use it. But if you try to refill it, the game treats it as full! Argh! Also, some of the commands don't work, like NOTIFY, SAVE GAME, RESTORE GAME, INSTRUCTIONS, and HELP. The commands BRIEF and VERBOSE work, but don't stick like they're supposed to. I would have reported this to the developer directly, but they don't seem to have an obvious support page on their website. Bugs come up on a 32gb iPad 3 running iOS 5.1.1

Not bad. I am just a little too young to remember the text based games (I started gaming when Return to Zork came out) but this game is actually pretty good if you like adventure styled games (when can we get Kings Quest games on here). The interface IS a little clunky. It would be nice if we could get a better input system and a compass. Just a thought, but an output system similar to the SMS messages might help this game out. Either way, 4 stars from me.

good. hey all you ignorant haters who can't figure out how to play this game, please shut up. I hate having to look at all the crap you put out. honestly, if you don't like it, don't freaking say anything! I think it's a very clever game but the only thing I don't like is the fact that the idiotic dwarves always pop up and kill me. if there was a certain part of the game where if you wanted the dwarves around you would go to like a certain room that would be okay. I always die because of that.

Please tell me what to type?. I want to try this game... What should I type at the first screen? I am a young guy and have never played such games before... Is there a forum for this game? Are these just like cross-word puzzles where you have to guess the word?? Please answer the first question atleast guys.. Thanks.

Great text based game and with a few tweeks it could be excellent.. It's great to see everyone having fun rediscovering text based games. As said many times the fun of the game comes from problem solving and using your imagination. It would be nice to have a scroll feature and a compass rose that you one could use for controlling direction, with that being said it is still very entertaining. Have some fun and download it already.

Just the way I remember it!. Just downloaded this app. I used to play the original Adventure game for HOURS. Did finally beat the game - big thing about this is it makes you think - it's not graphic. You need to draw a map as you go and track your movements. There are secrets and uses for each of the items. The snake is the first trick. Get the bird - but to get the bird you need to first find the cage. But you can't get the bird in the cage until you drop something. Use reasoning, imagination, and draw a map as you go. You should be able to have hours of fun too. For older - not Gen X mostly us boomers that were into computers in the early days - before GUIs and mice - back when the command line ruled - this was the type of games that wasted hundreds of hours in university labs, company computer centers and other such places. I played this game and others (trek, hammurabi, etc) on PR1ME mini-computers on text terminals. Ahh nostalgia. This implementation of Adventure (or the Colossal Cave) is very well done. My compliments to those that created it. Thanks!!

Maybe I'm just dumb. I really had a hard time with this. The instructions were vague and the help was bordering on insulting (which was actually funny, but not when I was so frustrated I wanted to throw the phone against the wall.) I wish I could've figures it out. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Good Idea. This was a good idea for a game, but needs more user friendly commands. If you don't like text games, I would not suggest this one. It's a great time waster, but after about 30 minutes you get stuck trying to kill these very annoying dwarfs and a stupid snake. Overall this game kinda stinks, but if your bored, then download it.

Awesome Blast To the Past!. I've been waiting for a text adventure for the iPhone, and this is the original! Please bring back some of the Infocom Classics like Zork and The Lurking Horror! Great fun, especially for those who remember the glory days of text adventures!

A great game sullied by a terrible interface. The original game is a great work of art, and still an enjoyable play. Unfortunately, the iPhone port leaves much to be desired - there is no scrollback, all responses clear the screen (so you can't even tell if your commands had an effect sometimes, such as when picking up multiple items), and the text input box doesn't even support any sort of auto-correct, making typing very fiddly and difficult. I recommend that if you want to play this game on your iPhone, you should instead use one of the many excellent web-based versions instead.

Great game but stay out of the maze.. Come on Guys. Why the bad rap? This was the first text adv game ever written and should deserve some respect. I remember trudging through the Hall of the Mountain King at 3:00 in the morning at Melb State back in 1980. Besides, what do you want for free?

Great Game. This game is only for those who can truly apreciate the old classic games. This game is very good for it's type. It's like judging the quality of fruit. You can't judge the quality of a lemon with the same standards as you would to judge a strawberry. With a strawberry, the sweeter the better. A lemon would obviously not taste sweet.

Classic Oldie. You have to have been playing games a long time ago to appreciate this game. I remember these type of games from the early 80's. If you remember what is a "text adventure", then you'll like this game.

HELP PLEASE!!. I got stuck in the ''Hall of Mists'' place...and my lamp just burned out and I can't go anywhere or else I'll "fall into a pit". And there's a creepy little dwarf that follows me and throws things at me. :( Then it said there's a vending machine somewhere and stuff. So can someone please help me? Thank you!! Overall, I think this game is pretty fun!! One thing it could improve, though, is the giving commands thing. It would be so much simpler and better if there were options to choose from! So yeah, I like this app. :)

Didn't like it. Very crashy. It would lock up my whole phone. Hard to get the game to understand what I mean. Spell check would greatly help, I think.

It's adventure!. What do you expect? It's the old-school text based adventure game. If you're into that, then you should definitely check this out. Unfortunately I'm not into that :(

I love this original game...cannot play this one:(. As stated above there is no way to tap play and begin the game. Something is wrong and I wish I could fix this bug.

Not what I remember growing up. Definitely been "modernized" in its descriptions. I prefer the original.

Frustrating. I played this game on my Osborne 1 in 1982 and enjoyed the explorative nature of the game. The user interface then was a keyboard and it was reasonably fast to poke around and try things. This game is too painful to explore. I would have been pretty happy with a compass rose for input and text responses. I give up on this.

At First,. You think this game is going to be interesting. After two minutes of using it, though, you think the following... "NOT." Boo!

can't play it... doesn't seem possible to start it. I can open the game, I can tap on the options at the bottom, but nothing happens when I press the "play" button in the middle of the bottom part of the screen. There seems to be no information whatsover to explain how to get the game to begin. Oh well.

Hated it! with a passion. Very crashy it would lock up and restart my phone if I opened it and when I went 2 update I had 2 of them and I got bored of looking at this guys feet!

Crashes. It's a good game but it keeps crashing!!! Whenever I get some where my ipod restarts and its so annyoing!! I'm deleting now.

Locked Up My Ipod Touch. I enjoyed playing the game until it locked up when I reached the snake. Great idea but it needs work.

Very confusing. Ugh this game is ok for people who are great at strategical games like this but I don't think the average person would like this game very much.

Original Version Gone - Sad. This was much better when it was just the original Colossal Cave game. It would have been nice to have kept the original 350 point game as on option.

Author pushed new adv without notice. Very poor update has left the app useless. Doesn't seem you can play the original adventure anymore. The text field has always been very poor, which is kinda a big deal for a text adventure game. Recommend you move on and try another app.

Ignores years of text adventure interface improvements. The interface is crude and ignores years of improvements to text adventure interfaces. It feels like a quick and dirty port.

NEVER DOWNLOAD APP!!. This is one of the worst apps here as far as I can tell. Thank goodness no one has to pay for it. What a waste of space in my phone.

Text adventure games are still relevant why?. Please, for the love of God, stop re-releasing text adventure games! At least this thing is free but, come on, we're way passed the time when these things were remotely enjoyable.

Awesome, but crashes!. You can't kill the dragon in this version. The "attack" verb freezes the app and crashes the game. Otherwise, I love it. Fix the crashing and i'd pay to play this.
