1000 Hours Outside Comments & Reviews 2026

Having a difficult time keeping the timer going. The timer of this app seems to stop itself quite often. Especially if I want to go to my camera for a picture or turn off my screen to save power. I am not quite sure how I feel about this because so far I have been so focused on trying to get the timer/calendar to work without my having my phone in front of my face the whole time and it’s just not. Full disclosure, I’m using the free version of the app. But this was supposed to be a fun New Years goal for our family, I don’t see the value in paying a monthly fee for something that should be so simple. And I’m not even sure the membership would fix my issues.

Lacks seemingly obvious features. For a paid app this should have more. I would like the ability to see each individual timer entry; The time the timer was started and stopped; And be able to edit individual entries. If we go out once in the morning and again in the afternoon, but I forget to stop the timer in the afternoon- I have to some now keep track of what was already tracked in the morning and add it to the second entry that I’m trying to edit. The app should be able to show me all of the data for one day… not just a running total for the day.

Loving this app. We are no this app but sometimes Mom messes up and forgets to start or stop it at the correct time. It would be great if we could verify or correct the times logged as a feature. Either way, I love it and love the idea…. Even if i have to set my oven timer to remember to turn it off when I’m logging the time missed… the next day. Lol.

Doesn’t do basic tasks. I can’t find my history in a list anywhere with details. The calendar shows 2 hours when I have 2.5 in my week history. I can’t go back and look at any other days outside of that week with any detail if I entered it in rather than using the timer. I also did the timer this morning and then manually entered in another outdoor activity in the evening and it erased my timer from the morning. Frustrated I can’t have a detailed list of what I entered so I can look back at it clearly without having to click on every day and even that isn’t accurate.

Timer works 1/2 the time. This app is so glitchy! Half of the time I use the timer, it doesn’t keep running once my phone locks. If I let my phone lock on it’s own/don’t press the lock button while it is running, is usually works, but not always. But it’s very frustrating when it can’t be trusted to do basically the sole purpose of the app. Waste of money, in my experience. Which is a bummer because I was so excited to use it to make our 1000 experience more accurate and easy to track.

This app needs so much more capability!. It does what it needs to do, right? It tracks the time based off the timer. It does not make it easy to add or subtract time for the main account without doing the math myself. Why can I easily add and subtract from the subsequent accounts but not the main? Also they should add a place for weekly totals or at least compare last week to this week. Lastly, the journals for each day should have a total for the day and include the totals for each time the timer is started and stopped.

Extended version def not worth it??. Just downloaded today and it’s easy enough to use - very basic in a good way. I decided to buy the extended version/“membership” for $20/yr thinking it would give me good ideas for outdoor activities - but all of the recs that come up are indoors and…not activities? Several hotels, a casino, a shopping mall, a metro station?! Very unhelpful. I can type to search parks and splash pads, but I could have Googled those and saved $20… I think they need to work out some kinks here because as is it’s not helpful.

Makes tracking a breeze!. I had attempted to use the free pdf sheets for two years to track our hours outside but I never remembered to bring them with us or I never remembered to log our hours. I decided to finally get the app and for the past two years I’ve been able to track our hours outside seamlessly. sometimes I’ll even forget to track that day, I’ll look at photos of that day, and can go back and log those hours.

Love the concept, but could be better. We are trying to complete 1000 hours outside this year. To pay for the app you think that the whole app would be better. Every time I open the app to use the timer and start the timer it ends up closing the whole app out. I end up just tracking on my own how many hours we are logging. In a portion of the app you can upload photos, but not more than one at a time. After paying for the app there is also more in app purchases. If you want to collect bandages along the way, you have to purchase. We purchased the map and needless to say I could of googled most the locations I am at. I really wanted to like this app, but it has a lot of issues that need to be worked out. Needless to say since this is my New Year’s resolution, I will continue to use to log my hours.

This app is amazing. This app has completely made our 1KHO journey SO much easier! I love that I can set and stop the timer easily, edit time if I forget the timer, and that it keeps the running total for us. I keep the times updated on a paper chart, but this is 100% easier than what I was doing last year, which was recording the times on my phone, having to calculate what added up to an hour, and constantly trying to remember what time we left the house. My husband and son even join in by letting me know when to start and stop the timer. Thank you thank you!

Crashes, Changing Model. I bought this app 2 years ago to track our outdoor hours and “gamify” getting outdoors. It does great for that and I like I can reset it for the new year. However, it has been crashing every time I try to open it as of late; it usually takes my 3-4 tries for it to stay open and I don’t even bother with the stop watch because of it. I am grandfathered into the OG version, but I would not pay for all the extra features that I already get elsewhere for free (mainly being maps/all trails). The rest just doesn’t seem convicting.

Love! & Suggestion for v.2. Great, straightforward app! Part of an amazing movement/brand! Hoping we'll someday get: 1. Able to choose a date to start the cumulative hour count from. (It defaults to installation date.) 2. The ability to link profiles across devices. (I'm not the only person who takes my kid outside!) 3. The ability to track different activities or people outside. For instance, I don't count our 1 mile bike ride to school for our overall hours or organized outdoor sports but I know it would add up over time. Or for families with more than one kid, they might need individual timers for the kids' different schedules. Love this app and use it every day! Hope it becomes even more useful in the future!

Just a Tracker. I love that this tracks your hours easily for the 1000 hours outside challenge, but other than that, it’s pretty worthless, which is crazy for the price. The timer consistently stops tracking time in the middle of being outdoors. The map feature has hardly any points of interest and it doesn’t appear there’s a way to add your own or track where you have been on the map which is a shame. I would love to be able to share great trails between other people doing the challenge nearby, as well as rate them for myself to see what worked well for our family and revisit.

Love but…. Absolutely love the concept, but the app has some annoyances, including a big at the end of the month. Today is Jan 31st, and in the monthly view, the last few days of December show up. Those dates incorrectly show the January data for the same date (eg, Dec 30 shows the hours I logged for Jan 30). Now I’m wondering if my total is wrong too? And I don’t see how to export the data so I can track it some other way. It’s leaving me a bit demoralized.

Great movement but app needs work. I really love the movement that Ginny has created but this app could use some work. It would be helpful if you could set some sort of reminder on the timer so you don’t accidentally leave it on too long. Or even a nudge to encourage you to get outside if you haven’t logged any time that day. Another feature I’d really love is something to track my average hours outside so far, what I need to hit each day to pace to 1000 (or whatever other goal) and what my current pace is based on what I’ve logged so far. $25 is pretty steep for an app. I’m not sure the current features are worth the annual price tag.

So much easier for me than paper!. For a few years I’ve been tracking our hours, and at first I loved the marking our hours on a paper tracker on the wall. But it became hard for me to remember our hours when life got busier over the last couple years (after the pandemic). I love how easy this app makes it for me to track! I can see what days we did what hours, how many hours per month, and many more little details that I couldn’t see with the paper tracker. I don’t forget to track our hours as often because my phone is with us when we are out and about (to take pictures of our adventures!). Also I like the little photos/notes section that is like a little journal of what we did that day. Never had any issues with getting the app to work!

Convenient and Affordable. This app has made tracking my outside time very manageable and fun. I love looking at my progress, seeing my best and worst days. Seeing the total number of hours I’ve logged YTD is very encouraging too. I didn’t make it to 1000 hours this year, and the app never guaranteed that goal to me; however, I’ve logged more hours in my adult life than any other year and couldn’t be happier.

Wonderful Outside Tracker!. I have used this app for a year now and have been very impressed. I love the option to add a journal entry at the end of every day and pictures along with it. Babies don’t keep and being able to download all of my entries at the end of the year was so heartfelt and brought back so many fun memories of spending time outside with my little one. I would recommend this app to anyone!

Getting there!. This is a super useful app for our 1kho goals, but it definitely still needs some work when it comes to tracking different profiles. I tried to edit one kiddo’s hours when I accidentally left the timer going and it seems to get confused about edits- I checked his total hours so far and they were definitely more than they should have been, the app was confused somewhere between the profiles and edits. Looking forward to more improvements but not totally trusting the app yet and will still use the paper tracker and keep an eye on hours!

Tracking multiple profiles. I just started with this app, and I love that we can track multiple people! My only wish would be that I could simultaneously use timers for different people. In the summer, we go out at different times for different amounts of time, but we can manage with single timers.

Love this app!. We just started tracking our hours this year and this app made it super simple. I have three little kids, so coloring a page daily was a bit overwhelming. I decided to make this purchase and it was very much worth it. I can backtrack hours, add them daily or even start a timer when I go outside. It’s easy to use and makes tracking your outdoor hours simple and not overwhelming. Definitely worth the purchase!

Great app to track outside time. We love this app and it really shows how much (or how little in the colder months) we spent outdoors. One suggestion that would make this perfect: an Apple Watch version! We often leave cell phones behind as they distract us from our surroundings so being able to track on the Apple Watch would be amazing!

Love the idea but missing simple details. I was so excited to get this app and couldn’t wait to make the purchase. I’m bummed though. To find my total for a month, I have to go through and manually click each day and add the hours - I’m not seeing how to find a running total aside from the current week’s running total. I’m also frustrated that once I’m past 1 hour in a day, it’s just showing a one on the calendar even though I might have clocked 1.7 hours. Those issues alone make it so that the app isn’t doing what it was made to do. Am I missing something?

Disappointed. I downloaded this app a couple days ago to support my family’s new year resolution of getting outside more. My kiddos were super excited about the idea of earning badges. Unfortunately, they are now already frustrated because the timer doesn’t function properly and frequently stops timing while we’re enjoying the outdoors. What’s the point of what I paid for the subscription for this app if the simplest feature doesn’t function as advertised? What a waste of money. I could have used the timer on my phone and kept notes for free.

Great App!. I have used the app for several years now, and there have been great improvements along the way. I keep accurate count of all my kids hours as well as my own and it is very easy to edit if I forget to shut the timer off or forget to start the timer. My kids absolutely love seeing when they achieve a new status when we have a badge show up. It is so simple to use and now part of our outdoor experience everyday!

Frustrating app. The free version of this app was really frustrating. I’m not sure if there’s an error or what, but when I initially used the app at the beginning of January, I was able to do what I needed beautifully—namely, simply track our time on one profile. However, for some reason now there’s no way to edit entries. Every single thing you click says to become a member. I do not care or want any of the membership features. I just wanted one basic timer that would time my family’s outdoor time, but it’s useless if I can’t edit time for days I didn’t use the timer or if I didn’t immediately turn off the timer.

Great app and support!. The app team got back to me pretty much right away with my problem! Great customer support. And I do love the app. The hour badges are fun to get; it is an incentive to get outside more with the little one! ***** I use this to keep track and love the idea. But with the latest update, I can’t seem to put in hours for Friday & Saturday. I will keep using it the best I can but please fix!

Remove logged time feature. I really like this app but think it could use some updates. - I love tracking time with multiple profiles they make it super easy. However the numbers aren’t accurate because when I remove time it only comes off of the main account. - I frequently forget to turn off my timer when we come inside. I think you could easily add a setting to pick your “normal” outdoor time and if the stopwatch is tracking longer than that the app sends you an alert that asks if you’re still outside. Thanks!

Way more trouble than convenience. I got the app hoping it would be easier than physically tracking my family’s hours in a paper, but it’s actually not been helpful at all. If I forget to start the timer right when we go out, there’s no way to adjust the start time. And there’s no way for me to add an hour for one child and two for another if I miss it - I can either do one child or the same amount of time for both - and then if I want to spend more time outside later, I can only edit that before time instead of add another hour or two. It became so complicated, I had to stop trying after a week and I’m back to my paper in the kitchen. I’m glad it was only $2, but it was still a waste.

Meh. I’ve been using it for a couple weeks now and even paid for the full version in order to edit times. Turns out you can only edit your daily total and not individual entries…so if you forget to stop the timer on a day when you go out multiple times it is difficult to change. Yes it still tracks your weekly and monthly times which is nice, but overall not impressed. Given how simple the concept it, it could be much better

Needs improvements. Love the fast access to a timer, this feature worked especially well when I could go out with both my children at the same time; but now that they are on different schedules logging for separate profiles is a complete pain. Needs profile improvements.

Misleading App Capabilities. Tech support was very prompt when I asked for help with the family sharing portion of the app. Wish I had realized that the “family sharing” meant you all had to purchase the app multiple times across whatever device you want to use it on and that it only allows you to track one kid at a time. The family sharing they promised was the only reason I bought this app instead of using one of the numerous free apps out there that do the same thing. Wish I could return this app. I’ll be using a free app and not recommending this one from now on.

Good but a little buggy. I like the app overall to keep track of our hours outside. My four biggest issues are: 1. The timer itself is buggy, I’ve gone to open the app and stop the timer after an hour or two outside and the timer will show as 00:00 with a start button and I will accidentally reflexively hit it with your realizing it hadn’t yet “updated” to our actual real time count. Sometimes it takes a full minute for the timer to refresh itself after it’s been running in the background a while 2. There’s no app widget available! This would be the perfect thing to add to my Lock Screen for instant access, sometimes I totally forget to start the timer on my phone but I believe a widget start/stop would make this whole thing way easier and enjoyable 3. When in the calendar view if I need to edit a single days time I expected to just click on the square for that day and be able to edit but you have to click on the little tiny clock button that comes up. I overall found a lot of navigating the app to be confusing. 4. I haven’t yet finished a full month of timing since it’s still January but other users have said that once a month is finished you aren’t shown a “month total” and would have to add up days manually to see how much time you spent outside during one particular month, if this is true this is VERY disappointing! I guess I will find out soon.

Unimpressed. For a paid app, I am pretty unimpressed with the features. For there to be additional payment requirements for exporting to pdf, using the map features, and the badges, its certainly frustrating. I subscribed thinking that the map would have a bunch of outside things to do but it included basically anything that google maps would show. I can use a timer and a piece of paper and eliminate this entirely. I love Ginny’s ideas and podcast and am really surprised with this as it doesn't seem to be up to par for her work typically.

So easy to use!!!! CAN YOU PLEASE UPDATE FOR DATA USAGE. I am 1000% happy with this app! It is so easy to use. I don’t mind not being able to track more than one child, it actually helps me to see it so simply anyways! I track the majority of our time together anyways! If your on the fence about whether or not to buy the app just do it!!!! For a couple dollars it is way worth it to me!

Love it + one critique. I love this app and how it encouraged us to be outside more in 2023. Excited to start a new year and “beat” last years hours. One feature I wish the app had was after stopping a running time, to have the ability to “approve” or edit right there and then. So often I forget to stop the counter when we go inside and then I have to go back into the day’s total time and (😱) do math to correct it. When it’s only been like 5 minutes, it’s no big deal… but I have been known to leave the counter running for many hours or even over night haha and then it does become a challenge to remember what was already on the count for that day, and what the correct total time should be.

Just another app that wants your money 🙄. 👎👎👎👎When I first heard about this I researched around and found this be the only real tracker for 1000 hours outside. It cost a few bucks but figured it was well worth it. And it was! Well at first anyways. Nothing was paywalled to a subscription and it’s a tragedy to see it turn into yet another cash grab app. Still love the idea but won’t be using this app anymore as there’s infinitely better and FREE ways to track outdoor hours. It feels especially heinous since the whole idea behind the movement at least to me was to encourage more people to spend time outside. 👎👎👎👎

Great Idea, Subpar App. I absolutely love the idea of this app and have been very pleased with the incentive it offers to spend time outside. Unfortunately, in just the two weeks I’ve been using it I’ve encountered many occasions where the app glitches and doesn’t record my time. Oftentimes I’ll hit the start button, see the count begin, and leave for my time outside only to come back and find that the app didn’t record my time. This has been quite frustrating, as I’ll have to estimate my time outside and manually record it. Though the app is still effective in encouraging me to get outside, I do wish that it would more reliably record my time.

Never works properly. This is one of the worst apps I’ve ever had the misfortune of using. It NEVER works properly. When I time our outside adventures, more than half of the time the timer doesn’t save our hours. Instead it says it “saving” until I close the app and reopen it. Once the app is reopened all time is lost. The concept of 1000 hours outside is fantastic. This app is literally one of the most basic apps I e ever used, it simply needs to track outside time and can’t even do that! Don’t waste your time or money, there are much better time trackers!

Unreliable. Ever since the most recent update this app has been very inconsistent. We were outside for at least three hours today and the app said 52 minutes 11 seconds. You also have to have service for the timer to work which is frustrating because many times we are out adventuring where there isn't service. It used to be very easy to toggle between the timer and calendar and now I have to close out of my app completely to get back to the calendar from the timer. Hopefully they will update this again. It worked perfectly perform they updated it

Doesn't accurately track. This is a great idea in theory, but the app is proving to be very buggy. It seems there is a big issue with exiting the app and coming back to it, whether that's by hitting my home button or even pulling down my notifications bar. I've had it stop tracking and reset to zero. But most often it artificially inflates the time. Just yesterday with each time I pulled my notifications bar down I watched the time jump from 20 minutes to over 7 hours of time. Disappointed to have bought this and have it not work. Was so excited to join the challenge and have an easy way to keep track of our time.

The BEST app for tracking hours, love it!!. I absolutely love having this app. It’s so easy, so streamlined, and I love that you can always edit your hours if you make a mistake or miss something. It’s really taken the stress out of tracking for me, and actually it’s helped me be more carefree and check the clock even less… to have an app on a phone that actually makes you use your phone less is a pretty big feat! Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to track their hours outside.

Not worth it. I am shocked that there are so many great reviews for this app. I like that you can track time for more than one person.. but in the calendar view and the “hours this week” view you can only see the hours for the “main account. You should be able to switch between which profile you want to view. You can’t even choose who the main account is. Also the last time I added hours it didn’t update in the individual profiles, so now I feel like I need to write down the hours we spend outside on a piece of paper because this isn’t accurate, defeating the purposes of this app. I also would have thought that on the timer tab that there would be timers for each individual profile. And with the announcement by Ginny for 2023 I would think that there would be a way to track miles walked, books read, and other goals. This app isn’t worth spending money on and it doesn’t live up to the needs. Hoping for lots of improvements soon.

Love the app!. We started using this in 2023 to track our outside time. It's so easy to use and there can be multiple profiles to track separate people's time if you want . Pictures and journal entries can also be added to your time tracker on the calendar. You can export a pdf to have a document of all your outside adventures.

Transformed life with special needs child. This concept and this app/ podcast about simplifying our life to shift our focus around time outside has transformed our family life. Trying to homeschool, take care of a baby, and meet the needs of a special needs child has felt impossible. Why are we trying to do anything else? This is it for us. We are so grateful.

Hit or miss.. My wife is in to the 1000 hours thing for our kids and wanted me to help her with tracking the kids time this year. 2 issues - can’t sync her phone and mine so possible duplication or missing time. However the main issue is that the app works great on her phone, but crashes in about 30 seconds on mine no matter what I try. I have rebooted the phone, made sure I had latest IOS updates, deleted and reinstalled. Clearly the app is very buggy! Much safer bet to just use a basic timer and a piece of paper to track your time!

It’s gotten us outside more!. I’ve always thought of myself as someone who spends a lot of time outside, but using this app, tracking, and being intentional, over the last few months has made me aware of how much more my kids and I can do. And we have been happier and calmer as a result. It’s changing our family habits (going to read a book? Let’s read outside! Couch time? How about hammock time.) And it even got us out for a little every day in the bitter cold of winter. I love the journal feature, as well. Thanks for getting us outside more!

Love the program, not the app. I love the program and have loved how much more time we are spending outside, but this is such a buggy app. It closes out every time I open it, anytime I have to edit hours, the number pad won’t close, so the app must be restarted, etc. And I was disappointed to find once I subscribed that almost all of the adventure map points are restaurants. Too expensive for that, and unfortunately I purchased the full year before seeing that. That said, we are spending much more time outside and that has been a wonderful benefit. The kids love seeing which new badge they’ve earned!

This app is a joke. This app used to be a one time fee and now they have gotten stingy and charging families $40 *yearly* for an app that is hardly put together. I have told a lot of my friends about this app and we will be switching to the other 1000 hours outside app. I encourage others to check it out. I hate when companies like this become stingy, charge a one time fee sure but to charge $40 a year for a glitchy app that’s not even impressive is absolutely bizarre. This app got a lot of positive reviews to begin with so it seems reviews don’t matter to them much anymore until all these 1 stars eventually bring their entire rating down.

Loved the app until. I’m all for making money so you do you but I am sad that I can’t recommend this app anymore. My friends have joined this challenge and gone all in because of a simple app recommendation but now I can’t ask my stay at home mom friends to pay $50 a year for the app. I feel like to entire challenge is becoming a money grab which I totally get… this is your business but I wish just the calendar tracker could have stayed low cost.

Waste of $3. Downloaded this app twice in three hours. It won’t even let me sign up. I tried to contact the owners via their insta. Seems they like to post about the app, but not respond to customers when the app does work. Please don’t waste your time with this app.

A bit buggy to start. I know this app is new, so I’m sure these bugs won’t last long! But right now, the app is prone to crashing and closing during use. In the future, I’d love to be able to set daily reminder notifications to add any extra time to the daily total that wasn’t counted in real time I love 1000 Hours Outside and the ease this app should bring to documenting this challenge :) :)

Good idea in theory. Expensive app for the amount it glitches. I also often find it has stopped recording time after long outdoor periods. Good encouragement to get outside though!

Good initiative. Great to track our outdoor time.

There are Glitches. I can’t access any of my badges, the app will close. Sometimes when I’m inputting hours, the app will randomly close. I love the movement and love tracking my hours but I expected more since I had to purchase the app.

Great app!. It motivates me to go outside more.

Easy to use, love it. This app is the best. Easy to use and I love that I can save photos. It saves your outdoor memories in a seamless way.

Too many advertisements. Love the concept of the app & of course 1000 hours outside in general but for a paid app there is way too many irrelevant advertisements. It would make sense on a free app but this app costs money. I don’t even want to read their blogs or browse content because every half paragraph is interrupted with an in-page advertisement or pop-up.

Great app but crashes often. I love being able to track our hours outside on an app but I wish it wouldn’t crash every time I try to use it

Crashing constantly. I love this challenge and would really like to use the app but it crashes every time I’m in it. Even with the most recent update. Hope this gets fixed soon

Hard to track multiple profiles. I like the idea but the execution in the app has been challenging. I am attempting to track for all members of my family but when I edited the time for one of my family members twice it added the time to the total twice instead of changing the time. It’s not very intuitive for different profiles and it only tracks the latest time on the calendar (not all time, or a particular chosen profile). I think it would work well if you were just using it as an individual since all my challenges are related to multiple profiles. For a paid app I expected a smoother experience or the opportunity to trial it first.

Motivating, but limiting!. I love this challenge and have been doing it for two months. The app is a great way to keep track of my time and add a little journal entry to remember each experience. I’ve even gotten about 5 friends to join along! There are a couple changes I wish the app could provide: being able to look back at a photo album that contains all the pictures from the month (rather than having to click on every entry), being able to share with friends/see their progress/cheer them on, and a little visual to illustrate how near/far you are to completing the 1000 hours! Here’s to spending more time outside! Cheers!

Responsive Developer. Had some issues but the developer reached out and is working on them. Great that they are making it better.

Costly. I love the initiative and support it but… I think this app has a lot of potential but I think for what you get right now it’s very costly. As others have said there are glitches with the timer. Issues with logging old hours and making edits. And the bar graphs aren’t all that exciting. Even with hours logged my graph is a boring line. If I could get a refund at this point I would and wait until there’s been some progress made on it. Feels like it’s still in a very testing/development phase.

App needs work. The app needs a lot of work. It is not worth paying for. At this point it should be free to get general feedback and then the dev team and improve and actually charge for the app.

Not reliable. The timer constantly stops and stalls while I am out. Not reliable

App is a great concept but needs some work. My family has started using this app. Is it easy to use and you can have several family members tracked at once, which are major highlights for us! My complaints are simply that: 1) you cannot switch between profiles to independently view progress - you can only look at the “main” profile. 2) similarly, you cannot really add/adjust activity times for subsequent profiles on a day to day basis 3) you cannot have multiple people tracking separately at the same time. Your options are to choose one person to track or everyone. If you are trying to track multiple kids and have a larger family, this can be a problem when you are not all together. All in all, the app seems like a good start but I would like to see more work done to justify the price point. I would argue the app in its present state should be free due to these very pressing limitations.

Disappointing. I wanted to like this app as I love the Insta account and the challenge. But it’s not useful. I want to be able to log hours not tracked within the app itself, go back an edit, even move the time backwards from when I start the timer. The timer also seems to re-set when the app is not open instead of counting time in the background. Pretty disappointing.

Only 1 timer. I purchased this app so my kids could track their hours outside, but only 1 person or 1 group of people can track their time at once. I have 4 kids and they are in and out all day long at various times which makes this app useless for us since there is only one timer. If you’re a mom with small children and you are always together for your outside time, this app would be great. If more than one person wants to track their time using the timer on this app, I would skip it.

Life changing family time. This is a fabulous app if you are an intentional family who knows the value of getting outdoors together. It allows each member to track their outside time separately for those outdoor times when you aren’t all present. It takes half a second of your phone time to press the start button and stop it when you go back indoors. The dopamine hit from achieving a new digital badge is also fantastic. I love what Ginny and her family have created in this program!

App needs a widget for the Lock Screen. I love this program and the ideas shared by Ginny on her podcast etc, but the app lacks a widget for the Lock Screen so I am constantly forgetting to stop the timer when I come back inside. Not getting value for money because tracking time outside is literally the point of the app.

Not Functional. I downloaded this app and I’m unable to log past hours. In addition the timer stops once you get o of the app. I can’t make edits. As of right now there isn’t a single thing I can do with this app.

Glitches. Lots of glitches right now that I hope they fix them soon! When you start the timer and close the app, the timer stops. There is no way to see the hours you have previously logged. There should be a way to log hours for past days. When you originally open the app, it asks how many hours you’re at - but that information is not accessible anywhere afterwards. Seems like the app was released before it was tested. I’m hoping to change my review to 5 stars once the app is improved!! I was sooo excited to download it!!!

Not worth the money. Don’t like the way it Tracks the hours. Hard to put in anything under an hour. After paying for this app i download a different hour tracker instead

Working fine, could improve. App has been working fine for me, although I’ve opted not to use the timer in favour of entering my own time manually. Simple app that only does what it needs to do.

Super buggy. I REALLY want to love this app. I do. The timer is a great idea and so are the badges. But: - I can’t report a bug in the app because the button to click to submit my bug report doesn’t work. That’s bug #1 - bug #2 is that every time I even so much as click on the badges page the app crashes hard. Once my entire phone needed to be rebooted. - bug #3 is that my husband also downloaded the app and signed in as the same person as me. When he separately tracked time outside for our daughter, it erased the entire week’s worth of tracking data for BOTH of us except what he tracked. If you need a timer, just use your phone timer. Track on paper. Buy the stickers online if you need badges. If this was a FREE app I would probably be deleting it. I love 1000 hours outside but man is this app buggy! Save your money until it’s made more stable!

Crash app. I wish I read the reviews before paying for it. I really want to like it, and I want to believe in its potential, but I’m losing interest in opening it at all. It crashes every time I open it - even after updating my phone. And the timer only works when the app is open. I hope the crashing stops, but until then (if I keep it), I’ll just track on paper

The new update helped!. I was so frustrated with the tracker- it wouldn’t accurately track a quarter of an hour!!! Now it is fixed. The only thing that would make it better is the ability to log for several different family members on one screen. 🙂

Digital Tracking & Rewarding. This app allows our family to easily track our hours outside. I love that I can add journal entries and photos to log our most treasured family memories. The badges motivate my kids to earn more hours while taking on all nature has to offer.

Want to love. Love this movement and what it represents. I try to get out with my 7 month old as often as I can and this is a huge motivator for me to create strong habits early. HOWEVER. This app glitches and doesn’t count time when I am away from Wi-Fi or cell service. This seems like a huge problem for an app that is encouraging time outside. Unless I am in my backyard, this app is not useful to me which is a huge bummer.

Works great for us. We are really enjoying this app! I love being able to keep track of our outdoor time and I like being able to save journal entries and photos from the day. We haven’t had any of the issues mentioned in previous reviews, so I assume they’ve been fixed since then.

Could be better. It’s an okay app for tracking multiple people’s time, but it could be a lot better. For example, if it told you how many times you were outside that day. Or if it gave time stamps instead of just a lump of time for that day. The calendar only shows the main persons time. It’s not an easy switch to other profiles. The map is useless. The coloring pages don’t save the colors you’ve used.

Awesome app!. This is our second year using this app and it’s so much better than the random clock app I was using. I’ve experienced NO BUGS with this app- which, we all understand happen, but really, great job programming it.

Not worth it. I paid $4+ for this app thinking I’d get to access all of the features. Once I opened it, I just had a timer and calendar…. You must pay monthly or yearly to see locations outside and you must also pay to track with friends. I mostly was excited to have all the places in one app paired with the tracking but I don’t personally feel that having just the ability to time is worth 4.32 and then searching locations is $20 a year or $2 a month.

Would love a different visual. Was considering leaving a review about crashes, but updated and it seems to have resolved. Overall happy with the app. Would love for there to be an overall visual (like the printable paper charts) that fills as you add hours, and a feature that tells you if you’re on track to reach your goal.

New update. Love the new update that shows the time spent outside as hours and minutes (ie 1:30) vs the old version that didn’t show anything less than an hour on the calendar view. Despite our cold midwestern winter, this app has really helped motivate all of us to spend more time outdoors - so thank you!

Disappointed in the turn of this company. They have recently changed the app to an extremely expensive subscription based model for features that are nowhere near worth it. A horrible cash grab. No one asked for all these extra features. We liked the app how it was when it was a one time fee of a few dollars. Hopefully they will rethink their awful business strategy. Also sharing a lot of right winged religious views when users just wanted outside content.

Terrible app. Love the 1000 hr every day concept and I was so excited to keep track for myself and my 3 kids in the app. However, just 2 weeks in and I’ve already given up on this buggy app and will switch to a paper calendar instead. It’s nearly impossible to keep track for more than one person. This was a total waste of $2. Im so disappointed because and feel completely defeated in the goal already.

Cannot get past signup. I am unable to get past the signup page because it tells me repeatedly to “agree to terms” even when I have already done so. Can this be fixed?

Love the app…missing one thing. I’ve had the app for years and love it for the time tracker. It would be even better if it was compatible with Apple Watch to make starting and stopping the timer even easier if my phone was left inside.

Great App. Would love more features.. The app works really well and I’ve seen how they have implemented ideas from previous reviews. I’d love to see widgets! Lock Screen widgets to track daily/weekly totals and Home Screen widgets to see the stop watch or calendar. It would make the app much more functional for me.

Love!. I love 1000 Hours Outside! I enjoy getting my toddler outside more, but remembering to track the time takes some of the fun out for me, worrying about the clock. This app takes the mental math away! Would love to see an Apple Watch version so I’m not tempted to scroll social media after starting the timer!

$2.99 a month is crazy. It’s nice to be able to start the timer and have all your hours saved. But it’s not worth paying $2.99 a month for it when you can just keep track hours on your own. I was charged in July when I downloaded it and charged again in August. So I’ve been charged $2.99 two times now. So why am I being charged if it’s only a one time charge??

Timer still buggy. I love this app but the timer is still very buggy for me. Sometimes I will start it, come back after an hour, stop it, and nothing has recorded. It’s very frustrating when I’m spending a lot of time outside—I’ll open the timer and it says 8 seconds or something. I end up timing it myself and putting the times in by hand.

More than a time log!. I love the fact that I can log the hours on my phone, but what I love the most is I can keep track of memories made and save photos. Also, if you forget to log your hours, you can go back to a date and add them in.

Timer glitches. Overall I like the app and it helps keep us on track for our goal. However, given that the main feature of the app is the timer, it’s frustrating how often I start the timer, leave the app, only to come back to the timer not running and that it didn’t track my time at all.

Only app I’ve ever paid for. The 1000 hours outside app is incredible! Before I purchased it, I was starting a timer on my phone and keeping track of our days and hours outside on a note on my phone. I love how easy this is and that we can go back and easily see our hours every month.

Great for tracking hours!. When I first downloaded the app, it kept crashing, so I left a review stating my frustrations—I received a reply in about a week that stated the issue had been resolved. Now that I’ve been able to use the app, I can say it’s been so great for tracking our hours. Thank you for all your help!

Great app!. This is my first year doing 1000 hours outside and I’m loving the app so far! It’s really easy to track how much time I’m spending outside with the stopwatch and I like the calendar view. The badges are a nice touch to keep you motivated and share on social media. I recommend it for anyone doing 1000 hours outside challenge!

Great app. Makes it so easy to keep track of time outside. You can edit when you forget to start or stop and it keeps track of multiple years so you can go back and compare.

Doesn’t keep timing when my screen locks. I was on a long walk and started my timer and out my phone in my pocket. When I ended my walk, it had only recorded 5 minutes of my walk. Then I did another test and started my timer and took my kids on a walk to the playground. Again, it stopped. This time only recording nine minutes of my time. Super frustrated! Seems like something a free app would do, not a paid for app.

Love it—with a suggestion. Enjoying the app—would love some kind of feature to compare to last year. Started 2024 as the second year tracking and I’d love to see where we’re at compared to last year

Love the simplicity. I love this app and how simple it is to use! And I love the way it’s motivating us to get outside because of the accountability. The only thing that would make it better is if it worked with Apple Watch so I could leave my phone put away!

Great in theory. I love the idea of this app and was really excited to try it, but I am very sad to report that it does not work well with screen readers. I use voiceover on IOS and the app is not very accessible, with many unlabeled buttons and other issues. This would be great to use if it worked, and I will continue to try to figure out how to use it, but it would be fantastic if it were made accessible with voiceover!

Would love this feature…. Overall I really like this app and the concept, however, I really need the calendar to be able to track everyone’s progress, not just the main user’s account. I can’t remember if I’ve logged everyone’s hours and there’s no way to see which days/hours for them. Please please make this change so I can accurately track all progress.

Must be a member for all features. I want to like this app and this movement, but there really are zero features to use unless you pay for membership. The master calendar works for a few days and then starts asking you to pay - even though the update says that feature is fixed. It’s unfortunate, but I’ll be looking for another way to track my outside hours.

I usually love 1000 hours outside. That’s why I purchased the app. I was looking forward to conveniently track our individual outdoors time but unfortunately the time tracker doesn’t work and messes up everybody’s time every time I use it for a specific person. So I have to still manually track it and update it in here. Kind of disappointing, otherwise would be a great app

Love this idea. I love the idea of tracking time spent outside and being able to see time for each day/week/month is super cool! It’s a nice motivator to see everything laid out. I just wish the app was compatible with Apple Watches, that would be incredibly convenient!

Good idea, but really buggy still. At the moment, I love the tracking! It even keeps tracking when my phone dies, which is amazing 🤣 but my biggest issue is if I want to do anything other than track (shop or download my badges) it crashes so I can’t do anything else really on the app, which is a real bummer 😩

Love it but I have an idea. I love the app! I love how you can set a timer or put in the hours yourself when you forget. But what I would LOVEEEE is to be able to add your friends so you guys can “compete” to see who is winning. My friends and I are tracking our hours and wish we could add each other as friends to watch our progress. I think it would a lot of fun!

Buggy. The app is starting to be buggy, especially the timer. I’ll leave the timer running until we come inside and when I go to turn it off it’s like it froze and is still on 00:00. It’s messed with hours a lot because it doesn’t accurately track since it freezes

Doesn’t really do what we needed it to do. No way to reset if we want to start from zero at the beginning of the school year. No way to see hours per day after the week has ended or see any hours from previous months. Basically just paid to use a timer and have access to the 1000 Hours Outside shop on an app, both things I could already access for free from my phone. I hope to see improvements in the next update.

Good interface but missing a watch app. The app has a really nice user interface and does exactly what it claims. The only issue I have is that is does not have an Apple Watch app built in. It seems like it would be easier to start and stop timers without having to worry about remembering to pull out your phone. Overall a good value for the price point but it is lacking in a key feature that would make the app more user friendly.

Great app!. I love being able to track my families outside time but I really wish every profile was shown on the calendar view! There have been many times I know I’ve missed adding to the other profiles or added incorrectly since there’s no way to check it. I think with that addition it would be a 10/10 app!

So easy to track!. This makes life so much easier, and we have gotten so many more hours because I haven’t had to worry about carrying around a pen and pater to track. Thank you SO much!! We will be successful this year without a doubt. 50 hours and 2 1/2 weeks in!

Awesome! Just one request…. I really like this app! An alert or notification would be really great to remind me that the timer is still running. I accidentally left it going for 45 hours. Clearly we were not outside that long. Something to prompt me to check the timer that is still running would be really helpful!

Needs a widget. I love thus app it lefts me manually enter or adjust our time. It’s clean and simple, and worth paying for. I do however wish there was a widget. I frequently forget to stop our timer when we come inside, so it would be nice to have a widget from and center on my phone showing me the running timer.

Needs the option for Apple Watch. We love the timer feature of this app for counting all our outside hours. It would be wonderful to have the option to use the timer on my Apple watch as well, so the phone can be left at home and the hours still easily logged.

Logging time. I LOVE the podcast. LOVE the idea but I absolutely HATE logging the time. Yes it has a timer feature but to backtrack (I forget to hit start and stop a lot) is a pain. You can’t just put in 17 minutes-you can only put in the decimal tracking. And I’m trying to log every minute we can (both parents work full time) so we want every minute to count! I don’t have time to do a calculation- I’ve got two kids under the age of 3! Please fix this (or give people an option)!

User friendly. Great app! So simple and easy to use, and so much easier to track outside time when traveling on an app than with paper. Sometimes, we will even fill in our baby trackers after we get home from trips :)

Timer not working. I got the app primarily for the timer and easy tracking. It worked great for the first week and then stopped. I turn on the timer and then go back later to stop it and it only recorded a few seconds. Now I have to keep track of time and then go back and record the total time later. It completely defeats the purpose of the app.

Enjoy this app but…. Love the accountability and premise of this app and we are well on our way to 1000. I just wish it worked when you didn’t have service that is my biggest complaint. Sometimes being outside as much as we are you don’t have service- so then the hours don’t save

*update* Glitchy. *update * Customer service contacted me promptly and helped me resolve the issue! App is working great now! Just purchased the app and like a lot of the features, but setup has been glitchy, and it won’t let me add profiles or update my user name.

App needs to be upgraded. The timer is nice but the app could be so much more. Doesn’t feel worth it to pay for anything. Wanted it so we could add friends and be able to see each other’s progress, but all it does is show total hours. The “feed” button does nothing. It also would nice if you could still see the timer running when you are not in the app. App seems outdated and not very user friendly except for the timer and calendar features.

What a bummer. Disappointed to find out that 99.9% of the features are only available with the paid version. Absolutely not worth it unless you’re on top of it enough to stop and start the timer every time you go outside. I was hoping to just add our hours at the end of each day but you can’t unless you pay. I would’ve hoped an app encouraging people to spend time outside would’ve allowed the basic features without having to pay.

Cute idea. I love this idea and it seems like it is going to help us be more intentional with our goal of being outside more but the journal feature is impossible. There is no way of getting away from the keyboard when done typing. So it renders that feature useless which is a little irritating especially when paying for an app.

Love love love. Literally the best podcast, have been listening for years. Always inspiring, always so helpful . We have been doing 1000 hours outside since my oldest was a baby and now we have 3 young boys always getting their outside time! I love Ginny so much she seems like an absolute joy to be around.
