Downright Impressive!!. I felt the need to write a quick follow-up to my initial review, because in just a matter of days, the dev, Peter, has already addressed my major concerns. This is unprecidented, especially among niche music apps (I've lost count of the half-finished abandonware over the years). Not only were my issues addressed with record-setting responsiveness, Peter even followed-up with more specific questions in a clear effort to make this app the best it can possibly be. So, if you're looking for an app to make professional-looking sone charts, Song One is the preeminent choice!

Excellent App. Really enjoying this app. Has a ton of features, seamlessly intergrates between my imac and ipad via icloud. Had a minor operator error using the the wrong play mode function and emailed support for help. Fantastic response from Peter , got the issue sorted. Looking forward to getting it all fully set up. Would definetely recommend this app. !!

Almost perfect, hoping for ability to record voice/instrument. Wish there was a way to record your voice and instrument. At the very least import/insert voice notes from my recording app (not as a backtrack). Hopefully both. A lot of my melody ideas start with a hum, or voice memo. Having a way to import them or record into the app itself for reference instead of scrambeling between apps would've made this Song One my actual #1 for songwritting. I can see this being implemented by recording to song sections (Intro, Chorus) or attaching files to them. One could also record and move the recording around freely like in Evernote. Maybe a combination of both. I'd move them to the bottom in a section called references, but other people may want to have them on top of the lyrics.

One of my favorite apps. This is an awesome app. It does SO much, although I got it just to organize charts. Searching charts, transposing, creating sets, and so much more are all so easy. I had a printing issue and Peter, the developer, addressed it so refreshingly fast. I love this app.

Great app. See my review on the Mac app. Once you learn its workflow you'll appreciate the many functionalities that this app provides. Nice iCloud integration. Nice MIDI implementation. Lyrics editing is very speedy, especially on the Mac. The developer, Peter, is very responsive and helpful. The price point vs functionality is very reasonable compared to other apps in this market space and NO SUBSCRIPTION FEES!!

Fantastic. This a fantastic app. It is incredibly refined with a beautiful user interface. Far better than OnSong or Songbook. The editing tool is incredibly fast and the play mode renders songs beautifully legible on all devices. It also has fantastic tools for song writers. Keep up the great work!

Very Impressive. I’ve only been using Song One for a relatively short time. I tried SongBook Pro first but abandoned it quickly after it lost the links to the backing tracks, twice. Then I switched to OnSong but heard it was not the most reliable and I wasn’t real hip on the monthly subscription fee. Several people on FB recommended it Song One so I checked it out. I’m blown away by all the features it has. Mainly I’m a live performer who uses backing tracks and chord sheets. I’ve found that this app does that well and supports sets. And customer support is pretty incredible, too. It’s never taken more than a day for them to respond. I highly recommend this app.

Extraordinary App. Beautifully designed. Incredibly easy to learn, organize songs in your library, write new songs, and perform in a group with others. Far superior to all other "chordpro" apps available (e.g.OnSong, Sonbook). Developer is amazingly responsive. Whenever I as for a feature he usuuall has it up on the app store within in a week.

Syncing is terrible, very hard to use, unable to revoice chords. Not satisfied at all.

Has potential, but too complex. I'm very familiar with this type of app, and I use a different one on stage every week. Song One has a lot of features, but the UI and lack of singular focus make it less stage-friendly than other apps. The biggest issue I had was the plethora of teensy gray-on-slightly-darker-gray icons -- none of which have tool tips or help text. The whole UI suffers from a lack of contrast. So much gray! Maybe some of that was to ensure that the demo mode was *completely* useless, but I don't want to pay to find out. For stage use, I want app controls to be clear, obvious, and easy. If I decide to capo, for example, I don't want to mess with the circle of fifths. If I want to start a click, I don't want a microscopic little gray icon that only appears at the very top of the screen. I do think Song One has promise; but right now the UI is just too fiddly. I think the author needs to decide whether this is a performance tool or a teaching tool, and focus the UI on that. My $0.02.

It's pretty.. It really is a lovely app and looks great in print preview. But it is so needlessly complicated that if you don't use it for awhile, it's so frustrating to do simple things like edit chords, add a capo (which at least finally functions as expected), etc. But the worst part about it is that by design it rewrites your chords to its own sensibilities (e.g., you can't have a D2... it is immediately converted to add9). And there is NO way to override it. So if you are using chord sheets, but you have band members using lead sheets, you cannot match what they have if you use this app and the app disagrees. I had such high hopes for this app, and that's why I paid the substantial price for it... but if you want to voice chords, you know, YOUR way... it's unusable, and sadly I didn't figure that out before paying for it.

PG. There is a definite learning curve for a beginner but well worth the effort.

This Is Awesome. Like TuneSmith and Ryme they made are Great, But What is Awesome Is they used a suggestion because the Photos Would not work the Long Hold was made so i could use it to access local photos. I just redid the update Mac to get rid of Windows I could not remove and tried it again and it works perfectly now. Thank you on all the Great Work.

Great Features, UI Needs Improvement. I bought this app hoping I could overcome my frustrations with the UI. It has a great feature set, but it would benefit greatly from a fresh UI rethink/redesign. Ultimately, I've found that when I'm trying to be creative and write songs, I reach for this tool less and less because the idiosyncrasies and scattershot UI frustrate me and make it harder to get into the creative flow. The developer does a great job releasing frequent updates. I would love to see a focus on design cleanup rather than feature additions at this point. Some specific annoyances: - The UI gives no hint as to which buttons are going to bring up a menu, hide a view, slide something on top of a view, or do something different altogether. Standard controls and functional consistency would be a big improvement. Popover views that sometimes cover up the song I'm working on are a nuisance. - The /- buttons to add/remove a song don't match! why is "-" wrapped in a circle? Why aren't they next to each other? Makes it feel disjointed. - Right click menus should include "Delete" option. Also, on a Mac, we use the term "Duplicate" rather than "Clone" when referring to a document. Little things like this make the app feel un-Mac-like. - There are way too many choices for song sections. verse, chorus, verse 1, verse 2, verse 3, bridge, breakdown, outro, interlude, turnaround, vamp… the list goes on. How about you just give me a few of the basics (Verse, Chorus, Bridge), and give me an option to type in any others I want. The menu is so long that it would be much faster to just type in what I want. - Font/theme preferences belong in program settings, not as a slideover on the song details. Also, I would prefer 1 or 2 carefully crafted themes rather than dozens of customization options. I want to see the title/artist/date on each song. An option to configure a global track header style and then have all songs simply use the same one would be an improvement over specifying which header sections to use on every single song.

Great App. Fantastic App , for arranging and keeping song lyrics and Chords ( and Tab ) . Link backing tracks , create set lists , use Midi automation etc. Intuitive to use, edit and update. Creator is super responsive and very helpful. If you are in the fence buy it it will serve you well !

Solid app, very responsive developer. Switched from OnSong because I didn’t want the subscription model, and I’m glad I did. Perfect? No, but there are so many different needs, that’s near impossible. The developer has been super responsive and added a ton of useful features just in the time I’ve had it - not even a year I think. Worth supporting and sticking with.

Virtually unusable without paying $24.99 up front. Barely testable free version. Hard to fathom what the features are and dropping $25 if you don’t let me test out some of them to figure out if this is the right app that I need. Greedy devs.

Best Chord chart software. First of all this software will let you chart songs by playing them on your keyboard (Bluetooth midi capable). Easy song importing especially from any text source. The app also converts pdf files. This app is one of the most exciting chord charting apps I’ve used to date. Think like this….if you could create a app for charting songs…..this is what you would have come up with.

I Really Wanted to Like the App. I researched a bunch of apps. Even downloaded a few trials for a couple. When I saw the Song One videos I was excited because it had everything I could possibly want. So I bought it. Problem one is that Song One only had a few videos on how to use it and there’s no tutorials by any other YouTubers that I found. Does that mean no one owns this app? I also wish the videos by Song One would go step by step. Here’s how you import a song. Here’s how you make edits. Here’s how you add this or that. Until it’s walked you through every bell and whistle the app has. I’ve had the apps for months and have only added 13 songs and I haven’t fixed all that needs to be fixed on the songs. For years I’ve written Chords and Lyrics charts for all my songs and cover songs the band would do. But as for as I know you can’t import Word Docs. So I started making all those into PDF’s. Probably got about 50 songs saved as PDF’s before I started trying to import them to Song One. First problem I see is that the Chords adjust to wrong position in a song. So now I’ve got to fix all the chords, which takes awhile. Then I thought what if I just copy from my Word Doc or just copy of the PDF in my Dropbox. It seems like sometimes the app leaves the chord where it’s supposed to be and others it doesn’t. On my Word Doc charts I might have next to chords the words (stop), (hold), (tag) or something similar. The app won’t recognize any chords with any words written text in the same line. Best I can tell you can’t save any notes beside the chords. You can save a note/comment, but you can’t move it next to a chord best I can tell. I think the app is great that you can add a MP3 to a song, so you can play along with. You can add a tempo and a metronome. Though I haven’t even got that far, because getting a song to import correctly without me making a ton of changes never has happened. One night before getting on stage my bassist said he wanted to do a song I didn’t really know. So I open the app ready to make a number chart. So he starts giving me the numbers and I made a few mistakes by hitting the wrong number, so I had to make some corrections. My bassist that uses another app says, that app looks painfully. It’s certainly very frustrating and time consuming. So we get on stage and comes time for me to use the app for a song I need the lyrics and chords for. Days before I had learned how to use the auto scroll. Used it for a couple days to make sure it worked right and it did, so I felt confident in using it on stage. First song I sing the verse and chorus and we’re in the solo and I look down at the app. I think wait that’s not the song I was just singing. Crap did I accidentally touch the screen with my strumming hand and it changed to the next song. Must have right? Next song I’m using the scrolling feature again. I get through the verse and the chorus and I’m not taking my eyes off the app. Sure enough it jumped to the next song. I’m 2 bars from having to sing, so I have to stop the Play Mode which is where the scrolling happens. Exit the song back to the menu, then find the song I need, then swipe to the bottom to get the second verse and chorus. I was able to do it, but I shouldn’t have had to do it. I would have been horrified if I wasn’t ready to sing, because I was fumbling around with the app and had to have the band hang on the 1, until I was ready to sing. After this happened I’m thinking you lost me Song One. You’ve a ton of bells and whistles, but I’d do without those just to have an app work the way I want. Identifying chords and keeping them in the original position would help. I can’t imagine how long it would take to load up the hundreds I’d like to have on the app and have all the chords in the right places.

Just what I needed. Works great and I can use all my devices in sync.

One more reason to use this app. I think this is a great app. One fantastic feature is the support from the incredibly responsive developer. I’ve emailed him with questions, feature requests, and bugs to which he is very receptive. In addition, he always quickly responds with answers and fixes.

Swiss Army Knife of Lyrics Management. I have spent several weeks using this app. It has a "Swiss Army Knife" feature set so it's a bit intimidating at first. There are help files & good YouTube tutorials. I have to say that Peter, the developer, has been very helpful & responsive. I have a thousand files in Word format with my own arrangements, chord voicings, tabs, etc. These are easily imported (it took me a while to get this right) and Song One will parse the word files into its structure, tabs, chords and all. You'll have to do some editing but the Mac client is very facile once you figure out all the widgets. The app shines in performance mode. You can add multiple MIDI messages to broadcast on song load. The auto-scroll is accurate. You can set up backing tracks (I haven't done this). And finally—everything syncs in iCloud (Mac/iPad/iPhone). I have a good workflow now for adding/editing songs from my iPad/Mac so things are faster now. I have everything that I was looking for in a lyrics management app with NO subscription fees at a very reasonable price point. BTW, I think that the issues identified in the other reviews have all been addressed. David

Need a tutorial. Bought the app. feel like i need a tutorial on how to properly write a song and properly place the cords so that they all transpose if need be... App looks decent.

Very promising. Song One shows much promise. It's not ready to take the place of my current solution, but it looks nicer and has many features that I could really use. I _want_ this to be my solution long-term. Definitely worth the time for you to evaluate it, see whether it works for you, and provide the developers with feedback so they can improve.

Looks great! A little cluttered, with pop ups menus and lots of menu diving. Was trying to find an OnSong alternative…BUT all I want is to be able to tell it a CAPO position and it change the whole chart to tell the chords I need to play at face value. When you add the CAPO # it only changes the chord fingering charts at the TOP of the sheet and not on the chart itself. I don’t want to look at the top to tell me what to play when transposing CAPO positions. You also can’t get rid of or hide the chord cheat sheets at the top of the chart. I was trying to use this for a team of people not familiar with music theory. The only way to actually transpose the complete chart is to use the Transposition Wheel pop up (which is confusing to use) that’s always at the top of the chart. But that doesn’t tell the uneducated what CAPO fret they shouId be on. I wish we could also just select the songs we want to add to a set list in one shot instead of having to slowly drag and drop one at a time. I also wish it could toggle dark mode instead of it being set to what the phone is. Because if I’m set to dark mode and there’s a PDF sheet in the set it’s just blinding because it goes from dark background with light letters and to the PDF that’s all white with black letters. There’s so many menus and menu diving and pop ups the whole experience is cluttered. Yes it’s feature rich, but at the end of the day I only want to see what I want to see when I’m playing. I click on one thing to open, I have to close it. Then the keyboard pops up, then I have to click the tiny arrows to close that. Also, the port over from my OnSong backup file was not a smooth transition as far as formatting goes. There were PDFs being listed as one thing and when you click on it, it’s a different PDF chart. My wishlist: CAPO to change whole chart (if just this, that would make the switch to this app so much easier and user friendly for those with lack of music theory) Hide fingering charts Click on chord to show fingering instead of playing chord sound. (I’ll have to mute the iPad, from accidentally pressing on a chord when scrolling) Toggle Dark/Light mode option Select multiple songs to add to set list

Fantastic Software!. After using another software for years, that after making big changes, went totally haywire on me and I ended up losing my entire library of songs--which had taken me years to build, I switched to Song One and never regretted it. It's rock solid stability, incredibly rapid support response, and its worry-free automatic backup of everything to the iCloud make it just a few of the reasons I love Song One and rely on it to manage my repertoire, lyrics, chords and backing tracks.

Doesn’t always work with Ultimate Guitar. I’ve sort of enjoyed using song one, but I’m not having much luck bringing songs over from Ultimate Guitar. I have exported a lot of songs from UG, sometimes they come over, more often they don’t. I have no idea why.

Excellent tool. I invested a lot of time looking for a friendly tool to use and I got this one. I had used on my iPad, iPhone but two weeks ago I began using on the MacMini y WOW even easier. All the tutorials are spectaculars and I really suggest to invest time to read and it doesn’t time too much time but the benefits will be incredible……..Val

Cool app. This is a cool app

Great but missing one thing. I really like this app, and will continue to use it. My biggest issue with the app is I have not found where I can use the number system instead of chords. The number system is a must have. Can it be added in an update?

Comprehensive, deep app. First of all, Song One works seamlessly across your Apple devices through iCould. That's a must have as far as I'm concerned and I don't see it on a lot of the other apps. But the app is also very deep in its feature set. Pretty much everything you need is there. Not always easy to figure out, but they have excellent tutorial videos, and online manual, and great support.

Not so Great. Can't cut & paste. Can't copy and paste without color change from white to black. Can't run at the same time as Logic Pro on Big Sur. Not sync'ing properly between iPhone and Mac, despite iCloud integration. No real integration with RhymeGenie on the mac. Pretty disappointed.

Full Featured, Effective, Stable and Solid - Support is Awesome. I have been using Song One daily for a few weeks now after selecting Song One as my alternative app for creating, storing and performing with my electronic song book. The app is well designed and provides solid and stable performance. When you buy the app, it is a one time fee and includes both the iOS and Mac apps. Syncing across devices and backing up your song library is easy and effective utilizing iCloud. Importing my songs from other apps and the web into Song One is very easy. Creating my own songs as well as editing and refining existing songs is very effective and efficient with the song editing tools included (as outlined in the app's description). Finally, I have found the Song One / Idolumic support team to be very responsive and helpful as I have been transitioning to Song One. Their response time is very quick and they have provided detailed and helpful guidance and information. The team is also open and willing to consider ideas for additional features. I really enjoy using One Song. I am new to song writing and feel the app helps me develop and document my ideas and then provides the tools and means to tweak and polish them as the song develops.

Friendly and efective App. After several weeks trying to get the right App , I got this one and so far It has worked spectacularlly well for me. My only recommendation is to dedicate sometime the clear Instructions avilable on the web and everything will be easy.

I-Tunes. I’ve asked these questions numerous times via you webpage and e-mail. To date NO response. - One more time…can I add music from i-tunes? - Will the music PLAY? - Can I THEN modify the selected song to add lyrics? - Can I additionally include the score, including chords and chord diagrams? Your previous answers to potential customers were, I’ve found, ambiguous, vague and off topic. Hopefully, by my SPECIFIC questions, it will help you provide the information to help decide whether to purchase your product.

Easy to use and good features. Aside from a few nit-picky items, I am very happy with the app. I like that it is a single payment and not recurring subscription - that was the main reason I chose this over some other competing apps.

Crippled Trial Version. The trial version you are downloading to see if you want to purchase the complete version is missing most of the features of the full version… which made this a real waste of time for me. I wouldnt purchase the full version without being able to try it with all the features enabled.

way too complicated. this app does everything except make a simple playlist where you can quickly and easily write chords and lyrics. EVERYTHING seems to be a hassel from simple formatting to figuring out what all the little symbols mean. i was just looking for something simple so that i can glance at lyrics while on stage and maybe show some chords on some songs. if i can't figure this out sitting down at home so how am i going to work it on stage?

Song One he’s a great chord chart app!!. Being a On Song user for years I was forced because I am using an iPad Pro to look at other programs has On Song no longer would work with my new iPad with the same features without going to a monthly subscription. So for a one time amount of 35 bucks I got a fantastic program that is easier to use, easier to edit add will be a lot cheaper in the long run. I can’t believe in just using it a few days how quickly I got the hang of it. I did contact support in which they promptly emailed with a solution and because of my feedback going to clarify their user manual. I will not be going back to On Song as Song One in my opinion is a better program for my needs!

Song One. Perfect for writing out my original songs. I can quickly write out the lyrics and chords.

The OnSong killer.... I have been with OnSong since it was a page flipping app.. loved it.. they integrated backing tracks.. they worked on all kinds of ways to access and find data (like a great relational database should).. then.. came… the bloat.. now they want it to run your light show.. hook up with your favorite church apps .. they want it to do multitrack playback.. and on and on and on.. and somewhere about 3 years ago.. you couldn’t rely on this thing to play back the correct song attached to your chart. database 101.. and it’s still not working! and as a beta tester for longer than i can remember.. they have just stopped listening to all the problems.. enter Peter (you will soon learn he’s all about making his app the best.. using modern coding and MUSIC FORWARD approach to his GUI!) Within a month of conversations and tweaks he has integrated a way to take your OnSong BU file.. and turn it into a Song One file with all the connections, annotations etc.. he’s HEARING you folks.. if you’re tired of being routinely let down by the inability to use OnSong in a PROFESSIONAL environment… I would seriously look at this app.. it won’t (and SHOULDN’T) stay at this price point for long and it’s worth every penny..
