Geneva Moon App Description & Overview

What is geneva moon app? I've always liked wearing a lunar complication on my Apple Watch. There is something both visually delightful but yet also slightly geeky about it. But I was unable to find a complication that provided an astronomically accurate moon display...which just kinda bothered me. So I made Geneva Moon.

Geneva Moon seeks to provide a highly accurate, visually pleasing indication of what the moon looks like right now, right where you are. My goal was to make it so that if you look down at your wrist and then up into the sky the images you see should match.

It includes a robust set of complications for every watch face type.

Choose between either a visually rich 'actual ' appearance or a more simplified version, to fit your own personal style.

The main display indicates the current azimuth and elevation of the moon along the horizon along with a visual indication of its phase and orientation.

Rotate the Digital Crown to shift forward and backwards through time and see how the moon will shift (tap on the screen to reset to now)

On Apple Watches equipped with a compass (Series 5) you can have Geneva Moon orient itself towards the actual moon to make it easier to locate the moon in the sky.

Thank you for considering Geneva Moon, I hope you enjoy having the moon on your wrist as much I do.

Way better than stock moon complication. Most of the bad reviews are from people who had problems installing this watch only app. Maybe the instructions are better now, but I didn’t have any problems. Also, you need to allow location access from the watch app to update your location. I found the stock moon complication lacking and confusing. While Geneva Moon doesn’t do exactly what I wanted, it is clear and much more robust. What I was looking for was to have the complication clearly show moonrise/moonset like how the sunrise/sunset complication works. Geneva Moon has that info, but you have to open the app instead of seeing it on the watch face. Overall, if you want moon info visible from your watch face, then this is the complication for you!

Perfect with Solar Dial. I think it’s best in Simple mode on the lower left complication slot in the solar dial watch face. I had actually been quite annoyed by the lack of rotation of the built in complication a few weeks ago - so this solves it and more. The more is that I can view a photorealistic representation AND use the dial to view phases in the past and future! I’m using a Series 4 so can’t review the compass functionality.

Great Complication but ONE problem…. I love the idea and capability of this complication, the only issue I have is that if you have it set to the more realistic moon, the complication is too transparent compared to the other complications on my watch. I can barely see it, I would love it so much more if it was just more visible on the watch face.

Updated status. Originally, I gave this app 1 star, because I couldn't find it once I made the purchase. It was nowhere to be found. So for those looking, you have to go into the apple watch store on your watch and go into "purchased items" and dowmloit to your phone. Once it is on your watch, it will finally come up as a complication. It gives very detailed information about the moon and it's appearance in proximity to your location. Make sure to set the device to your location, otherwise you'll get dase readings because the default location is Greenwich, UK (unless you live in Greenwich, then disregard my review). I don't know why they made it so hard to find. All my other apps download without a problem onto the watch. But I'm glad I finally got it. It's worth it!!!!

Purchased not installed. App Store says purchased but it’s not in my purchased apps. Not on phone or watch anywhere. Ripoff...

Does what it says. App is nice and complication works ok. Had an isssur where it said ‘Failed to update location’ and defaults to Greenwich UK. Had to go to phone to allow the location sharing, now it works fine

Instabuy. It’s from Underscore David Smith. Guaranteed to be a high-quality app from a world-class developer. Buy it now!

Nice APP. This is a fun nice little watch utility. Just be sure the buy and install on the watch to cut out apple’s terrible watch syncing.

Location. Make sure to update your location through the arrow on the bottom right. It didn't prompt me to give location data, if I hadn't looked I'd be looking at the Moon on GMT

Not working for Apple Watch 7 at all. Purchased the app I can see the app in the watch. But I cannot setup the app. After trying a long time, I only have an option to delete it. So sorry!

App installation does not show up on Watch. Doesn’t show up as an app or as a complication but the App Store says it is Purchased.

Awesome, and exacting. Awesome. The existing moon complication on the Apple Watch always was “close” but never matched exactly what you saw in the sky, either the *exact* amount in sunlight nor what the visible craters and light/dark transition looked like. This is EXACT. It looks just like what you will see. It’s a small thing but sometimes 99 cents can bring an extra moment of pleasure to your day. Great job!

App purchased but not on watch. App shows purchased but will not install on series 5 watch running latest watch os please advise

LOVE. I love everything about this app! Thank you for making a better moon app and complication! Works great with Apple Watch Series 5 compass to show you where moon is in the sky around you. Please add something to complication to indicate Moon is visible at that time.

Don’t buy. I purchased this and can’t find it anywhere, and emailed the creator and they have not responded with any help. Glad it was only .99 cents.

1.1 Even better. The initial version was superior to the Apple complicated but the 1.1 version takes it to the next level.

Scam. I purchased this complication. On the App Store it now shows purchased but is not found anywhere on the phone or the watch. Reporting now

Perfect for the Solar Dial watch face. ...or any watch face, for that matter. I, too, was irritated that Apple’s own “moon” complication didn’t take into account how the moon face rotates depending on your location. This solves that problem and does so with a simple and easy to use app. Thanks, Dave!

Does not show up - ?. Apple Watch 4, latest version

Needs better instructions. Yes indeed, impossible to enter + on an Apple Watch. I installed this app the day that it was announced and it was painful. With that out of the way, the only issue is that once you install it you need to enable location tracking to get the proper realistic view for your location — and I didn’t see that documented. Unlike iPhone apps, apparently there is no automatic popup to request permission.

Invisible. Bought it Says it is purchased Doesn’t show up anywhere insztalled after guidance from seller. don’t appear as a complication, only as a stand alone app 😟 looks like it will be a useful app for the watch - just wait for a few revs before buying One dollar down the 🚽

Never downloaded?. I brought this app and it told me it was purchased but it was never downloaded.

Beautiful, but flawed. This is a beautiful and superior replacement for the built in moon complication, as it gives a realistic rendition of not only the phase, but also the orientation for your current location. But the associated app has a fatal flaw: the moon set times are correct, but the moon rise times are for the previous day. If this bug were fixed, I would raise my review from 3 to 5 stars. I already missed a photo op because I relied on this app rather than my typical ephemeris.

Much more fun & useful than I thought. Purchased this out of curiosity, but now really enjoying it. Whenever I want to show my son the moon in the sky, this app tells me at a glance if a) the moon is risen, and b) which direction to look. Really fun to visualise the rotation of the moon too!

Doesn’t work. I bought the app and it doesn’t show up on my phone or watch. Rip off

Very Good. The look and amount of information provided is great. There’s a lot here for only a dollar.

Arrows to advance moon phases no longer work. The arrows to move between moon phase dates no longer work. App delete and reinstall and watch reboot didn’t help. No response from tech support after several weeks.

Frustrating to Install. I still haven’t successfully installed it. I was very excited about this app. Not anymore!

Does what it says on the tin, one feature request. I've always thought the native Moon complication was dumb for just sitting there, doing nothing. You look at it, it gives you no context. You tap it, nothing happens. It just tries to be pretty. This complication fixes that and now lives on all my everyday non-activity watch faces. Feature request: The one thing I'd like to see in the app itself is whether the crescents are waxing or waning. Yes, I can scroll forward and use that time warp as context, but I'd still like to know at a glance (even if it's somehow improper according to some standard convention from some astronomical or royal society somewhere). TL;DR: Recommended. Oh, I guess I should've put that up top.

The apps works!!!. This is the moon complication that Apple should have delivered. I had the same issue purchasing from my iPhone and not having it show up as many had. I just went to the App Store on the watch and installed it from there. That is Apple’s bug and the developer doesn’t deserve negative reviews for it.

Great!. I quickly got annoyed at the built in moon complication not being accurate, and it is way too gratifying to have the moon in my Geneva Moon complication match the actual moon exactly!

Will not install!. The app will not install on my watch. It is a series 3 running Watch Os 6. It doesn't even show up in apps that I've purchased but the app store shows that it is purchased. It doesn't show up in the complications section of watch either. Tried going through the developer's website for help but Safari acts like it is not there. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong and this actually installs, I'll be happy to change my rating!

Works great- If you live in Greenwich.. Can’t update location to where you are... just gives you failed to update message. No response from developer. Pretty, but info completely inaccurate on US West Coast. Sigh.

Bugs, bugs. Will only install on watch by going to App Store watch app, find purchased, and press install. If press settings within the moon++ watch app, after selecting style, press Done... it does not go back to moon++ app screen. Instead it loops back to settings. If press location icon within the moon++ watch app, after selecting select change location, press Done... it does not go back to moon++ app screen. Instead it loops back to change location screen. As is the app is useless and not worth 99 cents.

Not working for me can’t find the app. I purchased this and the app isn’t showing up anywhere there is no guide or documentation or anything I don’t see Geneva moon on my phone it says purchased and I see no Geneva moon complication option, Help!

Missing. Never downloaded. Shows purchased. I did email the author but no answer. Oh well

No longer works. The app is not showing up on my watch. It appears to be no longer supported.

Over The Moon For This Complication!. A really wonderful implementation and great to have accurate lunar data in this form factor. Nice!

Dissatisfied. Did not download or install

Instant buy from me. I’ve been following this complication’s development on twitter. As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted it on my own watch. I kept the moon complication on my main watch. This is a logical upgrade that is that much more accurate!

Needs support. Amazing complication and I still use it. Only now I use the stock moon for display on my watch because it shows the actual moon graphic. Geneva Moon complication does not show the actual moon graphic anymore for some reason. It’s the same as the simple graphic. Have reinstalled and changed the settings but just stays simple. So I use the apple moon now for display then I go to app dock and launch Geneva for more moon info. Another issue now is the arrow buttons don’t seem to work anymore. I think it just needs some love from the developers. I am a huge fan of this complication. Maybe add a tip jar or something to give it some support and keep it updated! I’d tip!

Very impressive app. Ive been disappointed by so many apps that don’t show the moon phase and orientation as it really is. This app does a great job showing the phase and the orientation correctly and can be added as the numerous complications. Also very pleased with the use of the AW5 compass and the ability to scroll and see the motion of the moon with the appropriate orientation. Very well done! The only thing I would want is the ability to increase the font size some for us old eyes. There’s plenty of space on the apple face so it would be nice as an option. Thanks

Exactly what I wanted. I wanted a moon complication that would show me details about the moon (mostly the moon phase) when I tapped on it. Geneva Moon is just that. After opening it for the first time, I switch to the information view. There it stays until the watch ever restarts. In a perfect world, I could permanently set the screen the app opens to. Seeing as a rarely restart my watch, this is the tiniest inconvenience that could ever exist. The complication itself looks great and makes it easy to tell how much of the moon is illuminated.

Doesn’t work. I purchased this and it never installed. Contacted the company and heard nothing back.

No longer available and doesn’t work. This app just says PURCHASED and is greyed out. I bought it before, but have no way to install it on a new Apple Watch. Also, the app is broken and no longer allows you to skip from moon phase to moon phase (showing the dates when the phases will happen) by tapping the < and > symbols. I used to love this complication, but the developer is no longer supporting it and is not answering emails.

No idea where it is. Purchased the app, no clue where it is. Finally figured out how to get it onto the watch. Will update after I use it

Used to love this app. I just moved to my new S8 Apple Watch and upon downloading this app again, the “actual” version no longer works. Both appear as the “simple” render. I’ve rebooted the watch. It did work on my S5 with WatchOS 9.0. It just seems that image isn’t in the app anymore. Hope this is a simple fix Underscore…

Can’t install. No way to install apparently. And with no way to type/scribble a + symbol on watch you can’t search for it on the App Store on the watch.

Ready now.. Fixed!!! Excellent.

Just what I was looking for!. From the day I purchased my Apple Series 5 watch, I was bothered by the fact that the moon phase complication did not depict the visible moon phase accurately. On a whim I decided to google the moon phase and I saw a review for Geneva Moon. I purchased the app immediately and couldn’t be more happy with my purchase. David Smith has done an exceptional job developing an app that can be incorporated into any Apple Watch face. My Apple Watch has just ticked off one more box on the list of details that make a watch great.

Works down under. Worth a buy

Love this app!. Absolutely love this app and I’m gutted since I got my new phone it no longer works on my Apple Watch! Please help!

Finally the right way round.. Finally, the moon is the right way around in the Souther Hemisphere. I wish there was more dithering on the shadow though, currently the line is too stark. Needs refinement.

Nice App. Looks and works beautifully.

Won’t download to my watch. Good.

Geneva Moon App. Paid for it 4 days ago but couldn’t install it on my iWatch 5. Email the vendor 3 times already for assistance with the installation but no answer. Pretty much on my own after I paid. Will call AppStore to get my money back. Disappointed!!!!!!!

Beautifully rendered dynamic complication. Love it. Could the app also display local moon rise/set times as well as the name of the current phase? That would be insanely great.

Small Bug?. As an amateur astronomer, this complication for my watch is very useful. There are a couple of issues. First, the moon raise time is about 40 minutes too early. Second, I assume the arrows in the bottom centre of the screen that shows the moon information is supposed to be used to go ahead or back a day or more so you can get the information for those days. These arrows don’t work.

Won’t download. I don’t know what’s going on, I paid for the app but it’s not showing up on my watch anywhere

Wish it were more customizable. Awesome concept for a stand-alone watch app, and it works well. That said, and maybe Carrot weather has me spoiled, but I find myself wishing the complications were more customizable... for example, the corner complication feels too large on the solar dial face. I’d love to be able to customize each of the complications, for example, label options to have either the moon rise time (like the stock app) or phase would be cool. I also don’t love the rendering.. the textured moon face is a little too crisp for my tastes—a slight gradient on the shadow line would help. 6/2021 Update: I’m still loving the functionality of this simple complication but I wish the moon size matched the size of the stock one. Looks funny lined up with the other circular complications on the Infograph Modular face.

Can not download. Says purchased but can not download.

Orphan APP ? (Updated). The last update to this app was 2 years ago, which is a shame because it’s always been a favorite of mine. Now since Watch OS 9 all I can get is the Simple Moon style on my watch no matter if I select “Simple” or “Actual”. Also in the info mode the forward and back arrows are non-functional. (UPDATE 9-21-2022) Well with the Watch OS update to 9.1 the “Actual to Simple” face is working again but still no arrow interaction/function on the moon phases.
