Much better for identification. I have been using iNaturalist for some time now. A few months ago, I became interested in documenting the mushrooms I saw. iNaturalist wasn’t doing a great job of identifying, so I decided to try this mushroom-specific app. I’m so glad I did! The identification suggestions are MUCH better, and it offers a multitude of information on each mushroom. I really appreciate the feature where you can compare your picture to suggested identifications side-by-side. I am working on transferring all my sightings over to this app now, and I am learning so many new things about the fungi in my area in the process!

Top notch support. 👍. Four unknown mushrooms popped up in our yard after several large trees were removed. Our new Brittany puppy got into them and was battling GI tract issues. I used the app to determine how toxic/poisonous they were. The app had mis-identified one variety so I contacted support and provided photos of the four varieties growing in the yard. Not only did they respond quickly (within a day), they provided suggestions related to “puppy management” and mushroom disposal.

Extremely irresponsible. This app is terrible and the authors quite literally don’t know anything about mushrooms. If you want to learn about mycology there are no shortcuts. This app is likely going to contribute to a liver transplant before they realize how terrible the idea is. On top of that they’re charging a membership fee?! So shameful, I hope the developers get what they deserve Edit: the developers have left me an extremely ignorant response that doesn’t address anything stated in my review it completely deflects and implies that I didn’t even use the app; further more it claims I was reviewing the app by the same developers ‘PictureThis plant identifier’ So disgraceful! The developer response given reads as such- “We are sorry you had a bad experience with our app(implying my review is talking about PictureThis plant identifier). Mushrooms and plants are apart of a different kingdom, Picture this’ plant identifier is designed for plants not fungi, good news is we have a new mushrooms identifier, please download our new mushrooms identifier app”

obviously not that great but…. the identifier is pretty whack and is missing mushrooms (probably why there are so many misidentified mushrooms) with that being said @ everyone who decided to randomly eat a mushroom ?? you’re stupid. i do not care if the app said it was safe to eat. any reasonable person and mushroom enthusiast will know it is not safe to just eat a random mushroom. it even states first and foremost to NOT use that information as a reason to go put random things in your mouth from your backyard. if you want to eat mushrooms go to your local grocery store and buy them. the ones you know are safe to eat. use your brain cells.

Works well. Picture mushroom usually gets the right result first. Sometimes it gives a couple results and they all have numerous pictures to cross reference with the one you took. so you can be confident with the results. The only criticism I have, is that the description of symptoms if ingested doesn’t seem to be as thorough, or not as accessible as earlier versions. If this was fixed in new version I’ll update to 5 stars

So fun! 🤩. I downloaded this app recently and found that I love it! It is so quick with identifying mushrooms and gives a brief description of the mushroom as well, some even prompting weather they're edible or not, though I do not completely trust the app enough to eat any. Sometimes the mushroom I find and take a picture of is a bit different then the pictures that show up, maybe it’s because my mushroom is in a different stage as the one in the picture but I’m not completely sure. One suggestion I’ve been wanting to make relating to what I said above is that maybe there could be a community option that lets you talk and chat with others about the same mushroom and their experiences with it so it could be more reassuring to people that were curious about eating them or just about them in general. I feel like an option like this would just improve the app in so many ways and have been wondering if that could ever be made an option. Besides that note, I am in love with this app and will be continuing to use it when I go on my little mushroom hunts!😁🍄

Struggles to identify anything. I fed the app pictures I took of several very distinctive looking (non-ambiguous) mushrooms. All were very clear and at an optimal distance, but it really struggled to identify them. It got one of them right away, some of them only after clicking “retry” 2 or 3 times, and the rest of them not at all. I could understand confusing different mushrooms that looked similar, but the fact that it struggled to detect them at all doesn’t give me much confidence, or incentive to pay premium for an app that doesn’t work well. This may change (and I really hope it does), but as of version 1.1.0 I am disappointed. The plant version of their app works MUCH better.

Ads. The amount of ads just to read basic information is insane. DELETE APP, same information is free in other places. I’m all for contributing to good apps, and I would possibly consider the $30 a year this app wants, but I didn’t get a chance to find out everything the app can do because I was hit with ads so often when just trying to read simple descriptions that I gave up. There has to be a way to let people try it out without making them commit to being charged at the end of seven days if they want to keep it or get busy with life and forget to cancel. I don’t know where the developers live, but $30 for an app that only identifies mushrooms is a big commitment for me financially. Just insane… Edit: Dev emailed me but I don’t think they understand my review… no, I do not want to email you, I don’t need to have this discussion in private. Not do I need to provide my financial information to your app even temporarily just to see what it is your app does. That is very shady to me. You can make the app full access for 30 days and THEN ask if users want to subscribe or lose full features. You do not need user financial information upon download.

Terrible.. I downloaded this app to find out about a specific mushroom I had found outside one day. I took multiple different pictures of the same mushroom and each time it would tell me it was a different mushroom. Very inaccurate. After doing some research myself I was able to identify it. But afterwards i got a call from my bank saying Apple was trying to charge me $25 for the “subscription” of this app even though I used it once and deleted it because it didn’t work. I’ve tried to cancel my subscription that I wasn’t even made aware that I would have to pay? If I was aware of this I never would have downloaded it because the app doesn’t work. This app is a scam. Don’t download it.

Dangerous App. I used the app for the first time with a photo of a mushroom in the agaricus family. Below the photo was series of pictures came up calling it “Bisporus” which looked exactly like the one I had harvested. As it was considered safe to eat, I ate it, and got very nauseous. I did more research on wikipedia and learned there is a similar but inedible agaricus (xanthodermus) which I suspect I ate. (I live at 8,000 feet in New Mexico and there are many mushrooms after the summer rains.) I have never had the nerve to pick and eat one before today, when the app gave me the confidence I had an edible mushroom. The app did not exactly name my mushroom in the photo, which I didn’t realize at the time, but just showed file pictures that looked identical to mine. I will try the app again and take more care with identification details, but I will probably not ever eat a wild mushroom again, as I felt pretty terrible and scared. Just thought you should know the risk I experienced.

Darren j. 60 years old and still leaning new things. This app is GREAT!!!! I have always been afraid of touching or coming close to fungus growing in the woods simply because I didn’t know if it’s toxic or not thanks to this app it’s wonderful. I Down loaded andFollowed the very easy directions took a picture of the mushroom take a picture of the mushrooms from the bottom up and it was right on the money as two other pictures of the same mushroom. Ever since I was a kid my folks always warn me don’t touch those fungus you don’t know if it’s poison well thankfully now I can tell the difference whoever came up with this app excellent excellent thank you so much took me 60 years to lift my fear of fungi growing in the woods. Darrenhaggett

Get this app. Although I’m not usually able to use the app when I’m out in the woods, I’m happy I’m able to upload pictures from my phones photo library. Sometimes it doesn’t identify correctly which is fine because there are millions of fungi out there. In those cases I wish I could leave the app and come back to where I left off. Instead, I leave app, app refreshes and I have to go back to my library. But I’ve learned so much about what I do find and their lookalikes.

very accurate but to cancel the membership add its hard to find the button. Very accurate most of the time, you just have to figure out what kind of environment you found your mushroom then you can pick the most accurate answer. The only pyoplem i have with this is that when it pops an add about their membership you have to find the cancel button at the top right, that cancel button is very well hidden

Good App!!. I personally use this app. I’ve found that it’s the best thing I’ve found to document the mushrooms I find all in one place on my phone. The matching feature is definitely not 100% accurate, but it does allow you to go back and enter your own conclusions on what you find. As a one stop digital catalogue for the mushroom hunting part of my life….it’s great, plus the ability to reclassify anything I find is nice for sure. It’s a good tool and help, but not an end all be all.

Helpful. I rely on this app as a cross-reference and/or to provide a quick list of candidates when I’m investigating a mushroom. It’s GOOD, but I’m frustrated with how the app functions: it often asks “Is this the right result?” - this is dubious (because how the &$#%^ should I know?!?) but critically, there is NO OPTION to say “I don’t know” (!!!). Similarly, there’s no way to go back to mushrooms you’ve scanned to change the classification (!!!). It’s like the designers have no idea of how this app actually gets used on planet Earth. The way PlantNet deals with this same classification problem (for plants) is much more sensible: it shows you weighted percentages and you can see right away if you’re chasing your tail in low-confidence matches. Fix these forehead-slapping problems and you got yourself a 5 star app.

Super fun!. This app is a lot of fun for me. I’m not a mushroom expert but have been interested in wild mushrooms for a few years now. Trying to identify mushrooms I found in the woods and in my yard, I found I had to educate myself a great deal before I could hope to ID a mushroom correctly...and this subject requires intense study. This app saves me hours of trying to figure out what I found. Totally worth the annual feel for unlimited IDs. Thanks to the developers!

Nice app. Great app for what it offers - one suggestion/feature request - can you make an offline mode that still lets the user take pictures, even if the app can’t connect to the internet and find a match immediately? This is how your plant app works, and that’s a nice piece of functionality. I tried the same with the mushroom app and it just sits at the splash screen waiting for connectivity.

Incredible app. So one day my grandma and me were outside and we found these mushrooms and we didn’t know if they were safe or anything because my dog was also also outside and he could reach them with this chain so cause we have to put them on a leash because he runs away and we were outside, and I scanned it and the mushroom it was very very poisonous and it really helped me and my grandma know if it was safe or not because we were originally growing edible mushrooms and we didn’t know if it was toxic or not because it wasn’t in the mushroom the edible mushroom area so it really helped us and we got our dog away from it And we didn’t touch it and then one day I was just gone. We didn’t know what happened to it. It’s just gone. It’s really really really good app you should get it if I could and if I knew how to give it a 4 1/2 stars I would say the only reason I would give it that thing that review is because every mushroom I click on that says it said bullet says do not touch or do not eat. I don’t know why or is it just the curse of this app I don’t know anyways, you should get this app. It’s really good that really helped me and my grandma out to get our dog away from it. It’s a nice app you really should get it. Thank you for reading this.

Fantastic app. Need minor tweaks for perfection. The only drawback is you cannot create a collection of your fungal biome as well as not being able to add personal notes to the specific image. There also is no differentiation between poisonous/hallucinogenic. I’m not outwardly seeking out hallucinogenic, but some have extreme health benefits and minimal levels of psilocybin. I would just like to know why these fungi are (poisonous/hallucionogenic). Fix these and you have the perfect app in my opinion.

Picture Mushroom is worth every penny. When you’re out in the words looking at and finding new mushroom friends, and you don’t know what they are, as long as you get Internet this is great for on site identification. But it’s also great when you get home because once you’re back in Internet range you can upload pictures from your photo albums and it will also give you an idea. It has been very accurate. Saves me a lot of time searching around online. Thank you thank you thank you!!

This app is very accurate :). I recently came back from a trip to San Francisco, and in one of the national parks I took pictures of many different kinds of mushrooms. Most of which I was correctly able to identify with this app. The ones I was not able to identify were most likely due to poor camera quality or the mushrooms not being fully fruited and wasn’t able to correctly get a mature fungus identification. I used the one week free trial, so idk how the app works without the subscription. I don’t go foraging enough to really use this app all the time, so the subscription would not be beneficial to me.

Good app but far from perfect. For those people saying ‘It’s not free!’ the pop up for the trial will happen every time you open it, but there’s a grey, hard to see ‘cancel’ at the top which lets you use the app for free with no trial. To cancel any subscription if you did accidentally sign up…you go to your phone settings, click your Apple ID at the top, and there’s a tab that says ‘subscriptions’ that allows you to cancel any apps you’ve paid for. You’re welcome. My issues with the app itself: somehow the heatmap is gone for me. Don’t know if that is not part of the free version anymore or something, but it was very helpful to seeing where in the world the mushroom was. The last few months I’m getting lots of suggestions for mushrooms that are nowhere near where my location is. If you’re gonna use my location data, at least have it help ID things. Also…the camera doesn’t want to focus while the app is open anymore, so I’m having to take photos out of the app and import them. Otherwise this app is super helpful for getting a ballpark ID on mushrooms and has been very accurate for some of them when I had little to go on. Always take them home and double check with spore prints and a good field guide, especially if you’re gonna eat them.

Very helpful app!. The app has been so interesting in helping me to know the different types of mushrooms popping up in my yard and surrounding area. It gives information and additional pictures of the mushrooms and lets me know the possible effects. This was particularly helpful since my puppy was intent on eating whatever he could get in his mouth! I didn’t want to disturb the mushroom ecology any more than necessary but wanted to get toxic mushrooms out of his way. This helped a lot with identification and knowing what to move. I wish I had enabled offline identification before going to the mountains since I found a lot of mushrooms there but have since enabled it and will give it a try! Another nice feature of the app is that it saves on date order all the mushrooms you have identified with pictures and information including date and location. Any questions, you can go back and look! I like it a lot!

Wonderful and fun app for everyone!. This app is really fantastic at identifying all sorts of different fungus among-us!! The year subscription was also well worth it, I tried it out on a free trial (without getting my hopes up); and I am still impressed every time I snap a picture. Ever been walking around and see a mushroom wondering “what type of mushroom is that?” You have found that answer with this app! It also keeps a log of all the captured images which I always enjoy looking back over previous hikes. Thank you kindly to the developers and keep up the great work!

Great app!. I have been using this app in particular for a quite a while now, and have downloaded some of their other ID apps. I feel that they’re all very well made and have a bunch of extra learning material! I really enjoy that they create a list of each months top mushrooms, and have other articles to read. Although of course not every ID is correct, which is to be expected when mushrooms are so diverse and sometimes can only be accurately identified through spores, etc, the app usually will still point you in the right direction. Overall I think the creators of these apps have done a wonderful job!

Love this app!. Easy to use. I love using this app to keep track of mushrooms I find on different trails I visit. Like a hiking journal! It’s very helpful identifying a good amount of mushrooms and giving basic identification info. Not always accurate though, so I would not use it to identify ones for eating without checking multiple sources. 8/10 times I find it to give me an accurate identificaiton so I will keep using it and keep adding what I find :)

Good for more common species. I’m fairly new to this but very involved with learning and foraging. I think this app is also good for pointing you in the right direction with a different new species. I wish it gave more than 2 options for photos and consistent description and details for all species. I’ve found some that have other user pics that are not the proper ID. That said, it’s one of the better ones I’ve tried and just one tool in mushroom ID. I never rely on an app for confirmation.

I would never eat. . .. . . . a mushroom based on an app's visual analysis! That's just crazy, and the app tells you explicitly not to do it. Use this app if you just want an instant estimate of what a mushroom *might* be, without having to stop and consult a book. If you want a sure identification, you need to know a lot more about mushrooms. I'm on the fence about buying, just because it is $20/year. But I think it is a good app for learning, if you acknowledge its limitations.

Works great ‘til no phone service. I liked this app except for two big things: it is completely unavailable if you are out of phone service area (rural areas). Not only can you not identify mushrooms, you can’t see your own past finds, or save pics in the app to identify later. Other photo-based apps can do this. Also, it is super expensive —$30 per year! I’d understand, maybe, if was $30 one-time. Ouch. Lastly, it appears that they control your files and photos. So, you save a bunch of mushroom photos, then decide you no longer want to pay, goodbye to your files. That’s my thinking anyways.

Makes exploring fun!. I really enjoy this app and feel for a novice it’s great! I enjoy learning about the nature around me and use mushroom books as a cross reference after using this app to help ID them. I am using the free version that you have to click around to use the app which is ok. I would appreciate having different medicinal uses listed and in which form(Tea, cooked etc.). Keep the warning of not to consume but add which cultures have used the various mushrooms. Some mushrooms do have this listed but I find myself googling and leaving the site and looking for more. Overall Great app! Thank you for creating this app! Edit: App adds popped up and was so off putting and I have no interest in games not having to have that interruption when I want to read about the mushrooms. I almost had 5 stars, if they added more about the app. Now with adds pop-up for the first time after reviewing and doing the update I’m really disappointed. 2 stars off. “Update to make app work more smoothly”?

Could be better. I love this app when I have cell, but it doesn’t work when I’m out of range, which is basically every time I am foraging. It would be great if I could access an offline version of the app when out of range so that I can refer to previous identifications and saved species (as a field reference). One other note: sometimes the app misidentifies a mushroom and I haven’t found a way to edit what it thinks (to correct it).

Identifications Not Trustworthy. This app is a great idea, but the accuracy in identifying mushroom species can’t be trusted, which ruins most of its value. What would make it infinitely better is if you could submit your images into a feed where mushroom experts could scroll through and submit their best guess. Then you could see (for instance) that the AI said it’s Species Z, 10 people said it’s Species X, and 2 people said it’s Species Y. This could be a fun game for Mushroom enthusiasts to show off their expertise, while giving valuable insights to beginners like me, while improving the AI identification with this human intervention.

Exactly what I needed and very simple to use.. My wife came in from watering plants with a full-grown mushroom with her. I searched for an app to identify this as we have pets and need to know if it’s poisonous. Engaged this app, took a couple of pictures and had the name/whether it was poisonous/its smell/etc…. An encyclopedia’s worth of info on it. It (the app) also files a picture and name for my own “Shroom” index. Super easy and quality app!

Worth every cent. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS APP. Though I would always reference another source, it is surprisingly accurate for identifying species that are otherwise rather difficult for an amateur like myself. I highly recommend this app and it makes identifying species easier and quicker. 10 out of 10. hspecies that I already knew for sure what they were and it was astonishingly accurate. I do wish that there was a way to save certain species you haven’t found yet so you can return later for details. I also wish there was a label for edible mushrooms.

The ads kill it for me. I love the concept. I might even may for premium, but there are so many ads and they take so long before I'm given the option to close out. The one for the coloring book app takes like 20/30 seconds before I can exit out. No I do not want that app, and the more time I have to stare at the ad before I can get to what I actually want to do, the more I really hate both this app for identifying mushrooms AND the app being advertised in the ad. Like come on....at least make your ads like 5 seconds instead of 20+ seconds. Insane.

it’s pretty good. It’s pretty good with the identification of most mushrooms and the UI is simple and clean. Unfortunately, there are a lot of basic features missing such as sorting and no community features where you actually interact with experts like the say. I also use inaturalist, which seems better on the actual mushroom identification and has a community of amateurs and professionals that give feedback on what you discover. I’m hoping for more features so that it makes sense to keep my subscription.

Deceptive Sales?. The app seems to do what it claims. Reading other reviews about the inaccuracies, I cannot say either way. I am a novice wild plant identifier. The pictures I took looked like the mushrooms I was linked to. I believe the initial screen that shows up when you first open the app is a very deceptive sales tactic. If you hit the “continue” button I believe it begins your 7 day free trial… a charge follows after the 7 days. it appears like a normal part of the app but it isn’t.. Is it really that hard to be straightforward in trying to offer a deluxe version?

Helped save me. So I live in Washington state, and there’s naturally a lot of plants here. I saw this cute little mushroom in my back yard, so I thought hey maybe there’s an app for this (turns out I have one of their other plant apps also), so I scan this cute little mushroom and BAM thing is poisonous to even touch, I dropped it, ran into my house, and very VERY thoroughly washed my hands. So thanks very much for making this app! It really did help save me!

Falls short. As a novice mushroom forager, wishing to consume the abundance of mushrooms, found in the northeast woods, where I live. I am finding this app is falling a little short in their assessments. The first thing I would hope to see when there’s analysis done of the mushroom is whether or not is toxic and can be consumed? I shouldn’t have to go looking for that information. It should jump out and hit me between the eyes. Since I don’t see that information why am I spending $30 a year? so I can learn to identify the different Latin names that I can’t pronounce? I want to know whether I can eat them or not.

My favorite app. Started with the unpaid version for a few months until I got to my 100th identification. I then realized how much I used the app in my foraging adventures and paid for my very first paid app. Not only has this helped me learn about mushrooms in my area, it has helped me track my adventures. I have recommended the app to numerous friends and all of those I have gone with on mushroom hikes. Will definitely keep this app! Highly recommend!!! Happy hunting!

Great help even offline. I love this app. 95% of the mushrooms I find get positively ID'd via this app then triple checking in books and online. I know it's a liability for the app developer, but a designation for "safe to eat" would be a great addition. It works pretty well deep in the woods with no service as well. Definitely worth the download. I use it almost daily.

Really cool app for identification. I want to get to know more about mushrooms, as I see them everywhere when I’m on walks. This app is honestly super helpful. I wish they had an option for a one time fee to purchase other functions…I refuse to subscribe to apps. (I really hate any subscription service, and don’t like that this is the way everything is headed). Having said that…again, this app is great!

Does great sometimes, wild unqualified guesses other times. I paid for this app and as a novice identifying mushrooms it has helped. But, if it can’t identify a mushroom it will present what could only be called a wild guess. It would be better if the AI had a better feedback loop so users could report identification errors. Yes, you can correct the result but that is not helpful for novices. Here is what would help: . Put an indicator for the level of certainty. . Allow users to flag questionable results. . For any flagged items, the app team should research and improve the app for all. . If the app doesn’t know, don’t guess. Use the feedback loop to improve identification. . Some mushrooms were misidentified as they just do not show up in my part of the world. Use location info to improve results. . Allow user to put notes into mushrooms identified

I’m kind of a newbie to the mycology world. I never really realized how many mushrooms I have walked by and never noticed. But now that I’m getting into mycology they’re everywhere. At first I would find them take a picture of them go back and look through my manuals to find out what they were. But now that I have this app it’s so much easier it’s instantaneous. Now I don’t have to walk away from the good mushrooms that I find and I know which one to stay away from. DefinitelyThe most useful tool in my phone

Cool idea, but not fully realized.. This app can help you identify mushrooms, and tell you info about them; that’s pretty cool. However, they want you to pay $30 per year to identify 1/3 of what you find in the wild and somewhat dubiously at that. In other words, it is not super helpful in many situations. If there was a regional database, a comparison tool, a short questionnaire about the characteristics that would aid in identifying or narrowing possible species this might be a 5 star app. Right now though, I find myself harvesting many samples for no reason as the app fails me time and again.

Same mushroom different identifications. I just downloaded this app, I hunt mushrooms quite often and I’m very careful about the types I consume or touch. I sent in 2 different photos of the same mushroom and it gave me both different results. The pore colors on the photos didn’t even match what they suggested the mushroom’s color to be. They also do not tell the viewer what the spore colors are on the mushrooms, which is very important to identification. Better to get mushroom hunting books and take classes to educate yourself better. It is a fun app for learning about mushrooms but I think there are some inaccuracies. ✨don’t consume mushrooms if you are unsure✨

Great app accurate most of the time. This app is amazingly accurate and when it isn’t it’s usually due to poor image quality Still it has some progress to make but I’m sure as more people use it they will be able to better identify species users add. The price is a little high but worth it especially with how handy and quick to boot this app is and the fact that they have real people that can help with identification in a timely manner is unbeatable in my experience.

Better than Seek or other plant ID alts. This app is amazing! Consistently gets mushrooms IDs right, first try - without having to move a live camera all over the place trying tog eat an identifiable angle. This app makes it easy to do with or without service because you can upload pictures later. So thankful for this app!

Never trust an app. This is helpful at times. It’s correct I’ve found maybe 50% of the time. When none of the 3 suggestions are correct and you X out it assumes you got the correct id further helping others receive wrong id’s. You have to scroll to suggest an edit. This fine for those who know what to suggest. If you have no idea it saves your incorrect Id when you back out. Common easy to identify mushies like cortinarius iodes are not recognized at all. Instead the poisonous mushroom is identified as an edible blewit. Not good. Hopefully all who use this app know to triple check sources including a written guide that will warn of the look a-likes.

Avid Enthusiasts. Anyone who regularly photographs fungi should purchase this app. It has the most accuracy but you do need to use clear photos and submit top and bottom of fungi if it has a bottom side. It’s been well worth it and I like to see My History of what I’ve taken. I’ve also enjoyed learning about ones that I’ve captured.

Has potential. Accurate results about 30-40%. Might be a good place to start a search or use to eliminate possible Id but I would not rely on it for accurate results. And I 100% wouldn’t eat anything it identifies.. recently suggested a Cortinarius was a Lepista nuda!

absolutely brilliant. quite accurate! gives you a range of mushrooms that it could possibly be and is fantastic for foraging

Will. Not a bad app , photos have to be taken in reasonably good light otherwise it gives an incorrect identification.

No good.... Didn’t identify any of the mushrooms I took photos of???

Good but…. I am happy that the app is fun but I can’t get it to work on my brother lol?!:)

Downloaded - did t work. I bought this to run on my iPhone 12 with latest OS. App launches and gets to the “take photo screen” - there is a diagram of a mushroom, side and bottom buttons, load images and a big red take photo button. Everything works - except the take photo button. I can not get this app to take photos. The only way to get it to load a mushroom is to take the photo with camera app and load the image manually. Then it thinks Australian mushrooms are Californian ones native to the USA. So I’m not sure if trust it even when it does work. Canceled my subscription :(

I LOVE PictureMushroom. I LOVE PictureMushroom

No identification. The app could not identify the mushroom I photographed.

Love it !. I genuinely love this app, though sometimes it gets the mushroom wrong. It is understandable. Such great tech ! 10/10

Works great, however…. I grow mushrooms commercially and am somewhat obsessive about all fungi, edible or not. Every mushroom ranging from Lions Mane (easy) to Turkey Tail, even Jelly fungus has been easily identified. The technology works, and if you are having issues with the app not discovering the mushrooms, I don’t know what you are doing wrong. My big gripe is the sharing option. When I want to share a mushroom with a friend the share option includes a link to the app to download which catches my friends out when they download and install. Shared a mushroom with my wife, who then downloaded the app and accepted the sign up cost…now I have spent over $120 on 2 subscriptions when only one is needed. My wife will hardly ever use the app and probably forget to cancel the subscription and get stung in a year’s time. I think the app is worth the cost, but the share option is sneaky and should be changed. Simply share the mushroom picture with a link to a website, not the app. Would be a five if not for the sharing option…I no longer share my mushrooms as the app has caught out more than a few people I have shared with.

honest review. i did enjoy using the app however it will it tell you if you can eat or not. would be helpful..

The Best. I love this app! If you are interested in mycology! You need this app!!

Total scam can’t unsubscribe. There are no instructions to unsubscribe and the ‘app support’ link takes you to some Chinese webpage that has nothing to do with the mushroom app. After the free trial they start stealing $30 a month.

Subscription. Canceled my subscription first day of the free trail and after the 3rd day still got charged $63. Not worth downloading

Great App. So far it’s been very accurate

This app works!. So far has ID all mushrooms correctly. This is great for all those mushrooms you are not quite sure about.

TERRIBLE - DONT GET. You have to sign up for a subscription to use this app

Mushroom app. I didn’t want the app that cost me and now I’m trying to cancel it before I get charged and can’t find it

It’s not few, forces you to pay to use. The new update has made it that you need to pay after 7 days. You used to be able to use the app with limited features, now you can’t even do that.

Please fix this!. Can you please let me inspect the mushrooms i take pictures of through this app full screen? Its essential to let me see the details up close for a mushroom identification app and its ridiculous that it doesn't let me, it only puts it on a box above the identification photo when I tap on it. Im am sure there are MANY people having a frustrating time with this. Please let me put the mushroom on the big screen its so important. Side criticism: Also give an way to save specific photos to my phone

Doesn’t work. Timed out before an answer was reached

Very good!. Recommended at 100 percent!!!

Waste of time. It’s 40 bucks a year. Why not just say that in the ad. Total waste of time

Fantastic fungi. So helpful

Complicated. I really cannot tell if this app is usable or not, the ux does not allow me to use it with subscribing.

Great and Useful. quick and easy, love to use it when i’m on the go, a lot of information on the mushrooms you find and relatively reliable.

Best App ever. Identifies correctly, provides a lot of relevant information and gives you the ability to name and store your own photos. Brilliant!

no free trial. I chose to look and was immediately charged $12.96 just to try, no free 7 day trial honoured

Mediocre. I get a positive ID about 1/4 of the time. Most of the time it doesn’t recognise mushrooms/fungi as such.

Great fun, still some development desired. Love this app, has awakened a new love for mushrooms. Generally pretty accurate and user friendly. However i get a little frustrated when the app doesn’t provide the write options, i would like to be able to save the mushroom as “unidentified” so i can investigate further but still have it in my collection. Also, i find when I don’t have reception (as is common when im out on the hunt) the offline database tends to search mushrooms from the northern hemisphere. Which is fine but i would like to be able to save that mushroom as unidentified and then try again when i have coverage. Finally, if the first three suggestions dont ID my mushroom, id like the option to get more suggestions, or to refine the search, or even to share it with the community. App has great potential, hope to be able to see some of these features in the future and would keep paying if it does:)

Deceptive. Pressed on the app for a trial, then cancelled within the hour. Have now been charged 29.99 And the app is pretty bad, hence my cancellation

Liked it until I was charged without creating an account. I had enjoyed the app but this month I was charged 31 without creating an account.

Great app!. The app is great! Helped me recognize 3 different types of wild mushrooms! 🍄✨

How do you unsubscribe?. I downloaded this app then saw the price, I want to cancel it now before the free trial runs out. how do you do that?

Perfection. Really worth it. Get the subscription and support this wonderful app. Helps enormously with identification.

Charged after offer of free trial. I was charged for app purchases even though it clearly started changing would only occur after the free trial expired. I cancelled the day I downloaded due to incorrect identification

Really helpful. It’s really quick and easy to see if a mushroom is poisonous or not in your backyard

Love this app!!. Just downloaded the app and so far, I love it!

Mode sombre. Ça prend un mode sobre

Insane price. Imagine spending $40/annually for a dumb app that tells you what a few mushrooms are instead of buying a field guide. Lol.

Ressemble à cèpes. Près du ruisseau près du pont.

Amazing!. Love this app. Great at identifying mushrooms and giving you some helpful/fun facts

Misidentified All Mushrooms Shown. This app is a great idea but needs more refinement for accuracy. All the mushrooms that kept coming up from our pictures were not indigenous to the area.

Mush. Super bon

Not working. When you search enoki the white edible mushroom and more mushrooms it says no related results found

check other sources. I do love this app. It gets many species right. but not all. Take multiple photos and reference a field guide. this is great for on the go though. specially when you don't have your book.

Very Good App. I e been very happy with the performance of this app!!

Who doesn't like Mushrooms. Like everyone I am nervous eating wild mushrooms but find multiple types when hunting both spring and fall. So I typically leave them in the ground except for Morels and Shaggy manes. I would love to be able to confidently add a couple more to the repertoire

Very good. I’d say she’s about 85 percent accurate, definitely a great app for beginners looking for comparison. It’s like a Pokédex for mycologists lotta fun

Not effective, and they steal your money. My puppy ate a toxic mushroom. I’m a desperate attempt to ID, I downloaded 3 apps. This one wouldn’t let use the app without the trial subscription (the others remained free). I was distracted by my ill puppy, and couldn’t remember which app was going to charge a subscription fee of $45!?! (which wouldn’t have been nearly as painful, if it actually worked). I deleted all 3 apps, in hopes that that would cancel the subscription. Apparently, it does not. There’s no way to know which one has a subscription or when it would take payment. (My puppy is still on tons of medication, and her kidneys are in awful shape. She’s 6 months old, and her kidneys may not recover.). The makers of this app don’t care. No compassion whatsoever. Avoid this app. Stick with the free ones. They work better, anyway. This one only lets you use one photo. I’ve learned from the Facebook group that I found - that did help - is that many mushrooms look very similar, and you need at least three photos to ID them accurately (the top to show pattern and colour, the side to show cap shape and if there are any bumps/rings on the stem, and underneath to show if the underside of the caps have pores or gills). Stay away from this app, unless you have $45 to throw away.

I have never written a review. Nope. Never but this app is legendary. I though you’d have to pay after three mushrooms but nope it’s 100% free and it shows you all you’ve collected, kinda reminds me of a Pokémon game or something. It’s awesome.

Impressive Tool!. Thank you ! This is a fantastic tool - I’ve wanted to expand my mushroom horizons and this app has been phenomenal.

Terrible. Couldn’t identify the mushroom. Was not impressed. I had good pictures

PictureThat Mushroom. Great app How does one eliminate pictures with wrong identification

Great App!. This is a really great app, I really wish I could keep or access the photos I take though…

Inaccurate. Works sometimes but usually inaccurate.

Really cool!. Humanity’s best app

Great app!. Very useful land they improve every time!

Super cool. Très bonne application qui permet de garder les champignons ramassés. Néanmoins j’aimerais que les champignons comestibles soient indiqués. Presque tous les champignons sont considérés comme à potentiellement dangereux.

It’s worth it.. This app actually does what it promises. I rarely write reviews but I had to for this one. This app saves all the mushrooms that you find and checks them off a list. It becomes like a game to try and identify more. Love this app. It’s worth paying for.

Price. Should be free

Great product.. If you like mushrooms - it’s totally worth the $

Thanks. Thank you for making this app.

Wow. Vraiment une merveille cette application

Not impressed. Doesn’t work offline

Informative and Easy. I love this app so much!! Any mushroom I stumble across on a hike, I just snap a photo and within 30 seconds I know the scientific name, nicknames, and identifying traits. It’s also so easy to use and logs all of your pictures like a diary. Such a great app!

Surprise. C’est toujours une surprise de voir lorsque l’ont downlod l’application c’est l’as que le $$$$$$ prix s’affiche. Pourquoi pas sur la page de l’app????

Impossible to cancel subscription before free trial. Impossible to unsubscribe before end of 7 day free trial

Payante. Attrape où on doit s’abonner pour utiliser. Pas gratuit

Love this app!. So helpful in identifying different species. I’ve literally saved hours of looking through several books in just the last 15 minutes alone: Thank-you

Scam app. There is literally no way to cancel subscription. I did not even agree to subscribe, simply downloading this app enables the subscribe action. DO NOT DOWNLOAD

Helpful Enjoying it! Thanks. Very helpful description useful and clear, appreciated Thanks!

Pretty good app. Accurate , reliable and easy to use. 10/10 recommend 🍄🫶

Poor identification. Used this on a Psilocybe Cubensis and it misidentified it as a “weeping Widow”. So…this app could be the difference between dinner and a psychedelic trip. I dare someone to use this app on a mystery mushroom and then feed that mushroom to their kid….

Five star rating. Most amazing app I’ve ever counted in my entire life. I have saved myself from so many poisonous mushrooms over the years with this app thank you 1000 by making it.

Not wanted. I didn’t realize there was a fee for this app and was unable to reverse it using the instructions given. Not happy😟

Edibility. Do you describe edibility?

Fantastic app. Super educational

Are you kidding. 40 dollar subscription for a year. Honestly the worst app in the store atm do not download or sign up. APPLE REMOVE THIS APP FROM YOUR STORE!!!

Cancel. How do I cancel this subscription ?

Really Bad. Just tried this out on 8 different mushrooms. The camera ID feature barely works. Even when it lead me to a plausible match, the individual pages for mushroom species are filled with random user-uploaded images that are wildly inaccurate. What are very clearly different species will all be labelled as the same species. Maybe it's my location (Vermont). Really don't understand where the positive reviews come from.

Love it. So far I’ve identified 5 mushrooms in my area and all five mushrooms are correct! This app rules.

Really good. This is a really good app. Field guide still has a little more information though.. it’s nice to have an array of photos to compare to though!

Warning … Tracking. This app tracks your every move. There’s nothing like giving up your privacy. Be aware before downloading and using this app!!

Scam. Very deceiving UX. Downloaded it …do you start the free trial or the free trial and plan? So dodgy. I’d rather pay for a something that is legit upfront vs scammy. Find another option. Shame on the developers.

not a free app. app is a subscription based app, not free, looks free but thats a lie, if you really need an app on yer phone that will do what a good book can do for twice the price monthly then go ahead and throw your money away.

Everything you could want.. For amateurs to pr0z, this little app gives you everything you need to get a quick identification. I would double or even TRIPLE check before eating though :) it’s been wrong, as is everything, sometimes. 4/5 I find to be spot on! 5/5 it gets!

Amazing. This not only helps me when I’m in the field looking at mushrooms, but it has tools that allow me to just browse on my downtime to learn more about mushrooms just for fun! It’s a great app and the subscription for the extra stuff is totally worth it.

Couple of thoughts. Hi, Please consider adding spore print i formation. Please add a way to opt out of the “was the identification correct “ prompt. Often in the field I have no idea and don’t want to provide assumptions. As to that requested ID feedback: Does this yes or no go back into your database thus potentially fomenting misidentification? Also, would it be possible to capture and keep the images until later if the identification times out when unconnected to wifi/cell signal. I am often remote and enjoy a feature on a plant ID app called “Picture This” which stores the image it couldn’t ID and works on it when back in signal range. Thanks!

My camera is frozen on the app and so is my friends. I’ve had this app for a day and today I opened it up to identify a mushroom I saw and it froze and ever time I try to close and re open the app the same problem my friend encountered this problem yesterday as well. So there are clear bugs in the app since it not limited to my device. All together this app is ok it has been able to at least identify the genus of most the mushrooms I’ve taking a picture of

Great app. This app often identifies correctly to species although sometimes it is inaccurate. Regardless, when not completely accurate it suggests a species close enough to be able to eventually identify through further research. Overall, it has been very helpful!

Not that great. The learning more button worked once or twice but it hasn’t worked since. It randomly gives you the option to share a photo with people that like mushrooms but I don’t see where you have the option to choose to do that when you want to. You can take four pictures of the same mushroom and get four different results.

One of my all time favorite apps!!. Has such a large database and each mushroom has information on it, the scientific name, and special facts on it! App was down for a month~ but its back up, time to put in the mushrooms I photographed while the app was on break ☺️

Won’t open. I’ve had this app for like a week now and it literally won’t even open. I mean, it does, and all it shows is a white screen with the words “Picture Mushroom”, and that’s it. Nothing beyond that, at least not for me. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling too and it still won’t work. This companies other apps have worked for me, so I’ve kept this app for a while hoping it soon will work, but it still hasn’t. I don’t know what the issue is :(

Confident.. Rarely do I find that if I take pictures with this app, do I find that it’s incorrect. It’s a wonderful tool to have for a beginner and experienced forager. One my check along with your pocket sized book you can bring with you on your hunts!

One of the Top-tier apps. This has to be one of the most robust and helpful apps I’ve ever used. Excellent identification algorithm, and each ID has a ton of information, categorized into features such as description, habitat, toxicity, etc. The app will also give out warnings if there are poisonous lookalikes, in most cases.

Actually pretty accurate. I wasn’t expecting that it would actually identify anything but I love how accurate it has been. They even give extra pictures to make sure its the right one. Do wish that there was a little more information though.

Really helpful App. Although I am sort of new to the mushroom hunting, I still hired a guide to take us on a hunting and gathering trip. He knew a lot of the names so it was hard to memorize. Anyways the app helped me recognize the names so later I can describe them. The app is great for naming the mushrooms but I would still do more research as to if you can eat them or not.

Try It Before You Buy It - Seems to Misidentify A Lot. Unfortunately, I bought this app on the reviews then tried it only after the automatic subscription kicked in or I’d love to get my money back. My first use of it was on a mushroom hunt in the Northern California woods. We were finding Boletes, Panthers, others - but I found I’d take the picture and get the name of the species, then take another angle of the same mushroom and get a totally different ‘shroom name. Take another angle of the same one and get even another kind. This happens just about every time. The highly experienced hunters in my party would commonly tell me that the app had misidentified. To me, this makes a novice hunter like me too cautious to trust the app, while my quest in using it was to learn edible wild mushrooms. I would see no point in putting out $20 otherwise.

This app is great if you work outdoors!. I work outdoors in a National Recreation Area and have been taking pictures of my brooms I find around the mountain. I found this app and have been able to identify 15 different mushrooms! I am just trying to get an idea of what I am looking at, I have not used this app for foraging. Super cool to identify what I find out in nature!

So easy. So helpful while in the woods.. I walk every day in the woods of East TN with my dog. So many mushrooms in mid-late summer! I spent a lot of time after walking looking them up. With this app I find out what they are while in the woods and can see what tree they are with, etc. thanks

Expensive subscription with no real "free trial" until you sign up. Significant permissions required to use; trial starts only after you sign up to pay subscription. Accuracy seems quite good, which is important for mushrooms- but this is a paid app with no real capability until you fork over your credit card and a variety of private information.

Good app. I enjoy it, but I don’t like paying $30 a year ($2.5 a month, $0.08 a day). When breaking down the numbers it doesn’t seem like much, but keep in mind how often you will use it. I’m no mycologist, but my area has lots of colorful fungi and it’s very interesting to find out what they are. If you’re willing to spend that much annually, this app is for you.

Needs iPad Support Badly. I really like using this app and I appreciate the assistance that it renders. I am learning that it is important to really study the mushroom or fungi to double-check the app’s identification of the subject. I don’t mind the fact that it is often working in offline mode as I am often far from cellular availability when in the woods and it does a great job catching up one I am back in coverage. I don’t like the fact that there is no apparent mode for ‘landscape’ when working from my iPad. I am forced to use my iPad in a vertical mode that mimics a smartphone, which is cumbersome when importing photos. The ability to import photos is very clunky and seemingly inconsistent. I don’t find this process to be logical and it is a struggle every time I attempt to import.

Pretty useless. Another over-hyped ML app. Did not identify several mushrooms I tested it with adequately. Given that your life may depend on an accurate ID, this is a waste of time. Using Google photos, I obtained much more accurate mushroom identifications with links to Wikipedia articles. And of course it’s free. I also downloaded Kindle versions of a couple of mushroom identification guides, and for less than the cost of an annual subscription to this clown car, I got introduced to the art of mushroom identification. It’s not hard if you’re willing to put a bit of time into it, and it’s so worth the effort.

Great app. Picture mushroom is very helpful in identifying mushrooms when in the woods or when you get home if you have no cell service while in the woods. I have definitely learned a lot using this app. Always use more than one reference source if you are planning to consume your mushrooms.

Fun and fascinating!!!. For a mushroom enthusiast like myself, having this app has been a real Boone to my forest walks! Not only is it incredibly accurate, but it allows me to satisfy my curiosity quickly and easily and also the catalog all the different mushrooms I found around wherever i hike!

Recommend!!. This app is great, ive never experienced any problems with it, except its hard to take picture of the bottom of the mushroom but thats not the apps fault lol. Its super helpful to figure out mushrooms in my yard, wether they are toxic or not too. and i can look at multiple mushrooms on the app and know what they are in the future and where they grow!

Amazing app BUT. Do you upload + analyze geo-coordinates of photos? Because many matches of mushrooms I found in Switzerland are showing as found in North America. Also, not clear how to make corrections to IDs — maybe add function to add more photos at a later date? But great app. Very useful. Thank you.

Used it once, very cool though. I used it once because my tarantulas cage had 3 little mushrooms in it. Used the app to identify it and although I wasn’t sure about it at first, after some digging the app was right. If you like mushrooms or see one in your home/yard or just see a little shroomy friend out in nature this app will give you its name. Very cool

Great app for mushroom enthusiasts. Love using this app. Just load your picture and get several possible options to read through. It helps you learn about each fungi too. Only once did I think their ID was wrong, out of dozens I’ve loaded.

It’s fun, but not entirely accurate.. It requires an internet connection, and an not sure if photos used can be stored until one has a connection. I’m able to view the main “side” photo, but can’t find top and bottom photos. Would be nice if photos could be exported. It gets quite a few completely wrong.

Nearly all the way complete. This app seems to be really effective, but pricing for it seems expensive. To start, not even being able to save pictures, taken via the app, to camera roll is inconceivable as its native to almost all apps now. Aside from that, I enjoy ID’ing new species, so this has helped get me into mycology. Please enable photos to be saved direct to camera roll!

Ads ruin this app. I’ll start with the good: -awesome concept with a really good mushroom matching AI (something like 98% correct with the mushrooms I’ve used it to ID -works well for what it is The bad: -Sometimes 1 ad per click, this RUINS all of the other good things. I went to look at an old ID and upon clicking I got some awful game ad that stays on screen for 30+ seconds. When that was over my ID loaded and I clicked on the pic I uploaded. Boom, another awful 30 second ad. Okay whatever I’ll wait so I can see my pic. Ad goes away, pic loads, I click it to zoom and BOOM another unavoidable ad. I get that the devs need to make their cut, that’s understand. But getting an ad per click is a great way to drive away customers, I’ll be using a hand guide and forums until the ads are reduced to something reasonable

Worthless. How do use this app a few times over the past two years in different situations and I just don’t see the point of trying again. I just tried multiple angles of what could be award-winning photographs. They are bright, clear, focused, fit perfectly into the app’s suggested window and failure. I can’t imagine anyone taking any better photos. This app hasn’t a clue. I’m not sure if this review will remain since I’m deleting the app in 60 seconds.

Great app. Doesn’t force to subscribe so for me it’s been 100% free (so far) 👌🏽 I don’t think I would be using it otherwise. I’ve been identifying over 20 different specimens of fungi and it works perfectly every time (with a good picture). Fascinating way to explore nature. Simple, clear and informative. Thank you.

Used to be 4/5. Loved it until the 90 second ads started popping up in between every possible ID. The ID results are seldom correct and the “side / bottom view” option is misleading. Perhaps there needs to be an option to add more photos for a more accurate ID? (Pilus, upskirt, stipe, etc.) It would also be nice to see what other users are finding/foraging along with an option to chime in on the identification process.

Lovely App. Informative and fun! Accurate in identifying mushrooms. Really enjoy the area where you can see what mushrooms will be in a certain location during a certain month. Already have recommended this app to friends! Mushroom hunting has been made super easy with this app too!!

Awesome App!. I’m currently using the free version on the app. The free version isn’t 110% accurate but it works great because it give you 3 different possibilities. It has helped me identify over 10 different mushrooms I have found. I feel like if I paid for the upgraded version it would be perfect, I just want to make sure I have time to go exploring so I can use it.

A wildly useful tool. As an educator, this has been not only a helpful tool for my personal life, but it has sparked interest in any space where I work amongst young people. Makes them conscious and aware of mushrooms and ignites a new thing to look for when playing.

picture mushroom. I love this app>>>> literally is so great and has so many features. I have the premium membership that comes with consultations, limitless access to info, and no ads. Even without the membership, you can still have a great experience. There are little to minimum ads. The identifications are really accurate . Love it, no complains! 🥰

Worth paying for.. I have enjoyed this app since I got it. Enough to pay for the year. It has helped me start to get more excited about seeing mushrooms in nature. The thing I would change if I could would be the knowledge about the mushrooms. Add more info about every species

Not Good Anymore. This app used to be superior to all the other mushroom identification apps, and was usually accurate. Now with their new update, it doesn’t even recognize that there’s a mushroom in the photo even though I always center it. It used to work well with the same photos I am now using, but doesn’t work at all. I tried identifying common mushrooms like coral, witches butter, turkey tail, and bolete, but each time was told there was no mushroom found in the photo. I will be deleting this app and likely won’t be reinstalling.

$30 a year? Nope. Updated review: $30/yr is too steep for any casual user, but the app does let you bypass the purchasing splash screen to get at basic functionality (the bypass wasn't working for me initially). I'd be happy to pay something for a little more functionality, but a hefty subscription for every app I want to use casually is just too much.

I really want this to work!. I love PictureThis! Yes, I was tricked into buying it for a year but I used it so much during the year and am happy to support such an amazing app! I saw they made Picture Mushroom and was thrilled. Unfortunately, it couldn’t identify any mushrooms correctly. However, I remember PictureThis being not very good in the beginning and getting better over the year. I am so happy they are working on this app because I know they will improve it like they did PictureThis. I do think they should have a big disclaimer at the beginning page that says “Do not eat any mushroom identified with this app without getting a second opinion from a mushroom expert. This app is still in beta.” Or something like that. I am excited to have a dependable mushroom identification app and will be happy to purchase it when it is ready.

Picture Mushroom. I really like the app, a couple things I wish were included are: provide more information on whether the mushroom is edible or not; and I would like a way to get back to the home page when a picture will not load (instead of it asking, retry).

Better than Seek or other plant ID alts. This app is amazing! Consistently gets mushrooms IDs right, first try - without having to move a live camera all over the place trying tog eat an identifiable angle. This app makes it easy to do with or without service because you can upload pictures later. So thankful for this app!

Great app! With awesome features!. As someone who loves to travel and take my pictures of specimens along the way, with this app you can take photos and it will leave a mark on your maps of where you found that mushroom and a bunch of great info about the identified species, surprisingly accurate as well! New favorite!

Awesome isn’t enough this app is the best!. Love this app! I spend time with the family in the local forests and we like to identify local floral, fungi, and fauna and use this all the time. Very accurate identification and at least in some cases it gets you close so you can continue further research. Have referred this app to multiple amateur mycologist friends.

Amazing🍄. This app is so good it is amazing. My dad wouldn’t let me get near mushrooms until I got this app and it’s helped me a lot. One problem is the premium screen makes you think the regular app is payed for but overall great. I especially like the tips and stuff that it has to offer a very good app.

Fun app. On my recent trail it was a lot of fun to identify mushrooms using the app. One feedback, app prompted me to select if the identification was correct and only has yes and no options. In my case I didn’t know enough to say either. Would help to provide don’t know option as well.

Annoying photo order. When you find a mushroom the first thing you see is the cap, so tha should be the first photo. Then you pick it and take the side shot, then the bottom. By having the side shot first means force top shot you need to replant the mushroom which means a lot more handling than I would prefer, in fact I wish I did not have to touch it at all. I’ll be canceling my 7 day trial.
