It’s nice to see a hardware company do software well. Over and over there are examples of hardware companies, especially legacy companies like Fender, totally botch modern products that incorporate software and digital interfaces. I have gone from a tube, tweed Fender Blues Jr. to a Boss ME-80 pushing a Blackstar solid state amp to a Fender GTX-100 and I gotta admit, while they completely botched the foot switch, they got the software right. It’s simple, easy to navigate and very intuitive; especially the iPad version. Nicely done Fender. What? You want to know the issues with the foot switch? Sure, I’d love to tell you. First, the buttons are LOUD! Ker-chunk with every press. I have many pedals and they all have a nice, somewhat delicate click. This thing is loud. Second, I have several looper pedals AND HERE IS HOW THEY ALL WORK. YOU PRESS TO RECORD AND PRESS THE SAME BUTTON TO START THE LOOP. NOT ANOTHER PEDAL TWO BUTTONS TO THE LEFT. this means that with some intricate loops I have to look away from my guitar to make sure I click a foot button that is two buttons to the right. Stupid. Almost like the didn’t try it themselves. Third, the included cord is crappy and you cannot use a third party cord. At least mine won’t work. And I’m talking real quality cords! You know, Fender, you should have had the software guys hold the foot switch.

Great control and accessibility. Awesome app. Gives you pretty much complete control of your amp and effects chain and settings. Lets you make changes or adjustments and try new tones on the fly without having to save them. Exactly what I was looking for. I like you you can delete the cabinet simulation from the amp setting to open up the sound too.

Preset does not match amp. The app would be great in my eyes if it just worked reliably. I don’t get the same disconnecting issues but the glaring thing to me is the presets on the app sometimes do not match the amp. At times I can’t tell to trust the app or amp (but I do lean on just checking the amp). It’s very weird if you try to edit one of the erroneous presets in the app because it’ll sometimes miss the fx of then preset on the amp. Either way that is weird so please fix it Fender. I like the app so I cm easily scroll through the library of presets - it’d be great if it matched the amp 100%.

Using the modeler just got way easier. The interface really opens up the potential of this amp and lets you dig deep into the features. Fenders app developers made an intuitive and easy to use GUI. What I would love to see in future is an offline mode to create presets when inspiration is on but the amp is off.

Suggestion. It’s a good app, I like it, it can get sometimes buggy but it’s cool, I have one suggestion thought and it would be cool if you can make it an option to put images on your set lists. For example If I wanted a set list to be an album, I would want it to have the cover album instead of just the title.

error message for preset dowload. i’ve used the fender tone app w/my mustang gt100 for years. today when trying to download a preset i am getting an error message that also says “unauthorized “! not sure what the issue is? have the latest app version and am signed into my account. and blue tooth & wifi are connected. not sure where to turn for answers? HELP! thanks.

Started strong, finished in flames. When I first downloaded this app to use with my Mustang GT40 back in the beginning of 2018 everything worked flawlessly.... Today? Even with the app up to date, the amps firmware up to date, and my phone able to play music through the amp via Bluetooth, I’m unable to connect the app to make adjustments to my amp settings and add effects. My phone recognizes the amp and I’m able to play music via Bluetooth like I said, but the app won’t connect. I’ve reached out multiple times with no help received. Perhaps a Boss Katana is the way to go for bedroom practicing because Fender has done nothing to rectify the situation.

Great at first but then crashed and burned. I got the amp yesterday and the amp is great however started to slowly notice minor issues that soon became major.. with the app the tones are great however today the app keeps saying anytime i attempt to select a tone to try or create a setlist that I need to update to the most recent software( which i have) I have updated the firmware and the software to the most recent update that has been released. I have spent up to an hour trouble shooting.. turning off an on attempting to update again, bluetooth on and on, deleting app and reinstalling.. after everything app still says to update to latest software to do almost any of the features.. extremely disappointed with app

Great Amp, Good Software. I use this app to control a Fender Mustang GTX. The amp itself sounds terrific. The Tone app isn’t perfect, but it does its job well enough that I can’t really complain. The main UI for configuring signal chain and managing presets is very intuitive and extremely flexible (compared to my previous “smart” amp, the Spark). Some other areas of the app can start to feel a little clunky, and the connection between amp/iPad drops more often than I would like. But I consider these minor issues; overall the app does what it was designed to do and gets out of my way. Fender gets some criticism for not providing continuous app or amp updates, but I think this is a little unfair. In my opinion the software/firmware is very solid and doesn’t have any major bugs to address. It’s unrealistic to expect Fender to continue delivering free updates. I would rather have a solid amp with no updates as opposed to a mediocre amp with continuous updates.

Mostly great. Mostly. I don’t know if it loses Bluetooth connection frequently or what but that “Syncing In Progress” or whatever that message is comes up far too often. Fender needs to fix 2 things; the Mesa amp models have no controls in the app. No gain, volume, nothing. Secondly, the cloud backup does not always work. It seems that the first time in the day that I attempt a backup, it works. If I try again with a more updated backup, it fails every time. Stupid.

Connectivity issues. I have lots of trouble connecting and keeping my amp connected. It also sometimes dosent let me use my amp through the app under the pretext that i need to update the amp. Even when Its already running the latest firmware. Regardless after I go through the updating process the issue is resolved but it shouldn’t happen in the first place. I’m also happens very frequently.

App doesn’t work. Skip over this amp as the foot switching is a frustrating question mark and the app only works if you don’t want to save anything! Surprised fender released this half baked dark toned amp with many features where adjustments are a major inconvenience as this software should work easily with windows but there is no download and the foot switching system is confusing enough I took it off altogether fender you’re not sorry otherwise all the software would be easily accessible and bottoms for saving effects would work and again this would be useable on my pc but it’s not

Only one complaint. Awesome amp (GTX100) and app. My only beef is that there isn’t a virtual pedal that would control the master amp volume. If you are using the XLR out there is no way to control the volume with the EXP-1 in either volume or expression mode. Sure, the amp speaker is affected but XLR out is always maxed. This makes the XLR output useless for live gigs. There is a workaround where you can control the eq-5 pedal and use the EXP-1 to control gain but it’s not the greatest. I don’t want to drive gain, just volume.

Tone Troubles. The app used to work great. But this is the second time I’ve run into a problem ... First off, I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. No other Bluetooth device is connected. I try to use a preset from Fender Tone and I see it connected and changed to the tone on my amp, great! BUT my guitar sound comes out of the amp plain with no effects whatsoever, it makes no sense. What the heck. I’m so tired of putting up with this amp, and frustrated. When it is working, I also don’t like how some preset sounds come out sounding overly digital and unrealistic. I have a PRS custom 24, am I suppose to only use a Fender guitar with this? Ugh.

Great app, keep up the good work. The negative reviews are definitely from people who don’t understand how to run an amp or an app. Connect your amp to WiFi, simply update it like the owners manual says and run the latest app. It’s that easy. I guess pressing one button while turning on the amp is too hard for some people to understand. I have 10+ amps, everything from a Randall stack to vintage tube amps, tons of pedals, and yet I always seem to use my GT200 with the app more than all the others. If you actually understand how an amp works, then this app with a GT series amp is all you need. Wether you’re in your basement practicing, gigging outdoors, or anything in between. If you’re a person who just want to plug in your guitar, have a crappy tone, and just make noise, then stick with your Peavey amp and a First Act strat copy and call if a day. No need to leave a bad review just because you finally purchased a big boy amp and you don’t know how to run it.

Great idea poor execution. I love my amp and app but Jesus is it a pain to use sometimes. The actual amp on pre set tones are amazing especially for someone that’s starting out and wanting to try out tones. To use all its functions you would need to use this app and hook up your phone Bluetooth and start downloading presets or changing the presets. Great idea but when you have to turn on and off your amp a few times to hook up it gets annoying real quick. This is after updating your amp as well. It’s even more annoying when you phone randomly disconnects from your amp and you have to set your guitar back down and try to reconnect. Very annoying.

Bluetooth connectivity makes app unusable. Received my GTX50 last week. Connected to WiFi and updated firmware first thing. Then tried to connect via Bluetooth using fender tone app. Nothing, it cannot find my amp. So after spending 45 minutes doing various troubleshooting steps (turn Bluetooth on/off on the phone and amp, restart amp, restart fender tone app, force another firmware update) suddenly the app can see the amp and I can connect. Great! I thought problem was resolved. Later that night, and now every night since then, every time I want to practice I spend between 3 and 30 minutes doing a random combination of the above steps until I get lucky and suddenly the iPhone app can see the amp. Usually after at least 4-5 amp reboots. This just screams like a poor software problem. I cannot tell if it is with the app or the amp’s firmware. My device is iPhone 12 Pro. I am considering returning the amp. I have reached out to customer support. All I can say is that I would highly advise against purchasing this amp if your decision is based in part on using the Fender Tone app as a way to control it. Nothing special about my iPhone setup so I cannot believe I am the only person experiencing this.

Can’t connect Bluetooth to app. For some reason the Bluetooth won’t connect to iPhone. Still playing around with it but so far nothing. App useless without that. UPDATE: I finally got it to connect and it works. I don’t what the problem was at first but it started working a few hours after my initial review. It can still be spotty which is why I give 4 stars.

Needs Interface Like The Amp. It okay but it needs to have the interface like the amp itself. When I open the app there should be a better interface like what is on the amp before I go to make changes. It’s as if I’m already in the menus when I open the app. Being able to see all the current settings to start and then being able to tweak just what I want from that interface again like the interface on the amp would make much more sense.

It’s good but inconsistent.. I really like this app and love the concept but I have two mustang amps. A GT40 and a 25. The GT40 will work over Bluetooth with this app on my phone. The 25 will not because it doesn’t have Bluetooth. But I can’t connect my phone over USB and control it. The GT40 will not work with the MacOS version at all… why not?? Really? The 25 will work with the MacOS version connected via USB. It’s named the same, looks and works the same but you need both apps depending on what amp you have. The app should work with all versions of the Amps and should be used to upgrade the firmware on all the amps. But as on now, I cannot use the MacOS version with my GT40 and I cannot use the iOS version with my LT25.

Set list syncing problem. In theory, the Fender Tone app should be a welcome companion to the GT series. However, the implementation is fatally flawed. When adding pre-sets to a “favorites“ Setlist, certain presets were renamed and re-numbered. For example, I attempted to add “Basic Vibrato” # 24. The app somehow decided to add “School’s Out” # 45“. When I tried to delete “schools out“ from my favorites, it warmed me that I was going to delete Basic Vibrato. Clearly there is something going on with the sorting in the database, and this phenomenon is not limited to the example above. Somehow the preset list has been corrupted… Not sure if this is app related or application related, but it renders the app (and the usability of the amp) virtually useless to me. I do hope the developers fix this soon. This combo of amp and app has so much promise.

Huge connectivity issues.. I’ve had to do alot on my end just to get the amp to work. Being that this is about just the app I’ll solely focus on the fact that it worked once.. and has yet to work again. I know my amp serial number by heart from the number of times I have been asked to reenter it. I have most current firmware, have reset all settings, I have reinstalled the app, restarting and restarting, I have an iPhone X on the most current software... nothing. Using all my powers of deduction I cannot find the cause... app or amp. At this point Im calling failure on both. Please get it together Fender.

Fender Tone. Choose, set, save, share, receive ideas. Also, using it w/ Rumble 800 and Rumble Studio 40 I have a wealth of sought after rigs that require practically no maintenance and no need for large space to house them or large vehicles to lug them. Don’t have to be rich or be a star to have this much desirable equipment anymore.

I was an early adopter.... I got my GT 40 when they were first released and it has only gotten better and better with firmware updates and the Tone app. Aside from the crappy headphone jack (which I don’t use and couldn’t even if I wanted to anymore) this amp has been a favorite of mine. And now the v3 version is next level. Love the Blues Jr. model. And the new UI is excellent. It’s so great that my amp sounds better now, by a long shot than it did when I got it (2017?). Thanks. Now my only question is to get the GTX or just keep my GT 40 till it melts down one day!!!

App is constantly malfunctioning. I got a mustang GT 40 in 2018, and it and the app rarely gave me any problems. I don’t recall any really. But I had to replace it, and now the app is constantly stopping and syncing, not connecting via Bluetooth properly, and I have to use the amp controls and have trouble streaming audio. I updated it, deleted and reinstalled the app again and again, and it just keeps being a job and problem to solve instead of an all in one solution. Plus the amp added presets in a weird order that is a pain and it also cost 50$ more than the first one. This app is now a mess for me and I don’t enjoy it at all.

So convenient. I love this app and I love my fender mustang amp!! The app used to disconnect me from my amp a bunch but since updating it I haven’t had any problems. I do however wish you could have some drum beats or a built in drum machine that you could use in the app and use your looper to practice! I also wish you could continue to add more pedals and more effects.

Great idea, executed poorly. The idea is great, the concept is great, the amp sounds decent for what it is. The Bluetooth experience is horrible for some and ok for others. The gtx foot switch simply does not work properly, the delay with Bluetooth a deal killer for using backing tracks, being an engineer myself the inside of the gtx was built clearly as cheep as possible. Sadly the concept that is a great idea was executed so poorly the basic idea is lost among many problems. Real engineering problems, has nothing to do with my intelligence as some here think. If your amp works correctly, consider yourself lucky. No need to falsely attack people who have issues, issues due to fenders poor build quality, fender must do better than this! I have 20 blackface amps from the 60s, they work flawlessly…this amp had issues from day one! Get your act together fender!

Good when it works (solution offered here). I want to to like this app and my GTX amp, but it’s inability to connect to the amp reliably makes it a pain to use. Frequently the app cannot find the amp, and no amount of turning on and off the Bluetooth on either side would make it work. I see this issue being mentioned all over the internet yet Fender never offered a workable solution. I do know what the issue is so I’m offering it here, hopefully it will help you. But, to the developers: if you see this, please fix it ASAP! It’s a big that’s greatly cripples an otherwise great amp. The solution: your phone needs to be near the amp when you turn the amp on! Otherwise the app will not find the amp later even if the phone is already connected to the amp via Bluetooth. I haven’t tested the maximum distance for this to work, but I estimate it’s no more than a few feet. I know, it’s stupid and beyond annoying! Please fix it!

Won’t connect to GT100, wants older firmware.. The new Tone app freaks out about the NEW firmware on my GT100 (not GTX100). I have the newest 3.0.43 on my amp as I literally did a firmware update and then when it alerted to a new firmware on the app, I tried a “Full Firmware Update” to the amp just before writing this review just in case. However, the most newest firmware on the Fender website is listed as 3.0.31... I believe that the Tone app is looking for that firmware and is popping up a message to update the amp. It refuses to even connect to the amp until they update this app in the App Store to reflect the most current firmware in its internal change log. When it worked, it was OK to use. But still preferred the physical knobs. Was hoping to see the new changes, but that isn’t possible at this time.

Modern Age Amplifier. What a difference to be able to have built-in presets that change your Rumble 800 Stage bass amplifier to match the most popular amplifiers of all time in history. It like have a bunch of different bass amplifiers in your studio and switching from one to another on the fly with the turn if a knob. Then on top of that having the ability of creating your own sound that you created yourself. Forgot all those pedals you used to carry around and use the amp to build your own pedals that are like the classics of the past. Included is a multi function 4 button floor pedal that does looping and effects that you program yourself. Plain and short now you have a modern Bass Amplifier that can do pretty much anything.

Constantly Disconnecting from Amp then not able to reconnect. I was very excited when my Mustang GTX50 arrived but I’m unfortunately experiencing tremendous Blue Tooth Connectivity problems with this amp requiring me to constantly reboot the amp. I will try contacting Fender Customer Service but if it doesn’t get fixed, I’ll be returning the Amp. I’m not sure where the problem lies but suspect it may be with the actual amp instead of the Tone App because the problems occur both on the App when trying to connect to Amp to use amp with the guitar and in the Bluetooth settings in my iPhone when trying to connect to amp to stream music. Rebooting the amp seems to fix it temporarily but then the amp eventually freezes and disconnects from phone and app until I reboot amp again. If I don’t reboot amp both my phone and the app say they can’t find the amp and to make sure its turned on. I’ll be real disappointed if I have to return the amp but its unusable if this problem isn’t resolved.

Works great when it doesn’t require a reset!. The idea is there but unfortunately the app will constantly throw errors which are usually resolved by disconnecting the Bluetooth connection and then reconnecting both on the app and through the onboard menu on the amp itself. It’s a great way to ruin creative momentum during a practice/jam session. Definitely do not rely on the app during a performance!

Very handy addition to the amp!. If I were able to do a half-star, I would’ve rated the app 4.5; it’s a very nice app, but has a few nuisances. It’s a great way to immediately access certain presets without having to scroll through the whole list to get to the ones you want, and it’s very handy for creating/editing presets. This is especially true when renaming them; doing it from the amp is a time-consuming pain. It’s also nice to not have to put the guitar down or hang over the amp whenever you want to change something or adjust volume, you can just do it real quick from your phone. The only issue I have is that the connectivity can be troublesome. My phone will have a hard time finding the amp through Bluetooth and usually have to resort to restarting the amp, occasionally twice over. Restarting the amp does usually do the trick, I originally wasted a lot of time trying many other methods to get around this obstacle. Once it is connected, though, the app is very resourceful and highly recommended. It’s worth the starting-up hassle when all is said and done.

Game-changer in the modeling amp space!. Decent amp but the companion Tone App makes it fantastic and a compelling force on the modeling amp landscape. I own the Mustang III v2 yet couldn’t resist the additional purchase of the new GT 100. After a couple years of perfecting Fender Fuse and still struggling to embrace it, The Tone App blows fuse out of the water and makes this whole tone control, tone presets and amp modeling thing fun again! Sorry Fender but yes, the Mustang III, V2 does have a slightly better sound and I wish GT was equal but it sounds good enough and with a little manipulation with tones using this amazing and easy to use app you can find your sound! My only requests so far for future release... 1. Preset back up in a cloud! 2. A quicker way while in a preset to save it directly to a saved “Playlist” (or several) vs saving the preset and having to go all the way back to a Playlist, finding the new tone and then adding it. 3. Adding Wah pedal functionality using the app vs going over to the amp Outstanding job Fender App team, keep up the good work and don’t abandon this like they did Fuse and can’t wait for future updates!!!

Great app, frustrating preset inconsistencies with update. When I first downloaded this app update, I see the latest presets pictured in the App Store screen grab. However, when I connect my older Mustang GT 40, all those new presets are overridden and the app mirrors the old presets. I can no longer see the new ones on the app. Any way to choose what I want to do?

Great app but having issues *resolved. Edit: responsive developers always trying their best to improve the app. My problem was resolved 5 stars, Fender keep doing you—you’re doing great! I updated my amp to version 3.0.43 but when I connect it to the app, the app keeps stating there is a “tone/amp update”. My amp is definitely on the latest version and so is the app. I’m a little confused here.

Good idea, poor execution. Let me start out by saying this. I am majoring in computer information technology at Purdue university, so before you assume I’m some old man who doesn’t know how to use technology, I can assure you this is not the case. On paper this app is great. It’s a revolutionary way to play your guitar with a great tone without all the hours of fine tweaking to get a better tone. However, whoever designed the Bluetooth/WiFi functionality of this app needs to be fired YESTERDAY. The app refuses to connect to your amp if you haven’t updated it which is fine, just update your amp stupid. But upon updating your amp there’s still a VERY solid chance the tone app will refuse to connect to your amp EVEN IF ITS ALREADY CONNECTED TO YOUR PHONE. This review would be totally different if this was a once in a while thing, but I’m consistently dedicating 30+ minutes every time I want to find a new tone to troubleshooting just because this app, which is literally designed for the amp I’m using(Mustang GT 100 btw), is about as reliable as dog s***. I’m not one to write reviews so the bottom line is this: I want to love this app, it’s a fantastic idea for FREE. But it’s poor network design is infuriating beyond belief. I guess you get what you pay for 🤷🏽‍♂️

Love this amp but…….. I absolutely love this amp and all the different sounds you can get out of it. It is a one stop shop. That being said, I am having issues with the Fender Tone App. I’m not sure what’s going on with it. Amp and the app are both updated. I have deleted the app and reinstalled. When I attempt to swipe to a new preset in the app it will say the app is syncing and then revert back to a previous preset. It may be the one right before it or it may be two presets down. I can hear the amp change sounds/preset to the one I chose and then it immediately changes to another preset. Honestly, if the app doesn’t work, the amp is basically useless. Having to go into the little screen on the amp to change anything is time-consuming and tedious. I hope that Fender customer service can help me fix this issue and if that is the case, I will change my rating to five star.

Would be more useable with less eye candy. The functionality of the app is great: it lets you tweak the amp's sound, and edit and create presets. This saves you from having to walk over to the amp and lean over it to see the controls. I really appreciate being able to do this wirelessly. But the UX is eye-candy at the expense of usability, with a lot of wasted space. The realistic pedal graphics mean the pedal's name is pretty small; on an iPhone it’s unreadably tiny in the patch overview, which defeats the purpose of that screen. Meanwhile, in the detail view everything’s nice and big but you can only see one pedal at a time. On an iPad screen there would be plenty of room to show multiple pedals at once. The only missing functionality seems to be marking a preset as a favorite, or assigning to a playlist in general. I’ve tried and failed to find a way to do it. Fortunately it’s easy to do on the amp. In the few hours I’ve used the app I’ve had it get out of sync with the amp once or twice (showing a different patch than the one the amp is using), and one time the amp itself entirely froze while I was using the app and I had to reboot it.

Overrated, frustrating app!!!. The Fender tone app is a great idea, but very poorly executed. I have discovered, after re- installing it three different times and still coming up with the same result, that it is a completely overrated app. They need to concentrate on fixing the bugs. Fender needs to spend a lot more time in the lab, with the objective being, putting out a more dependable app for the user. I absolutely love my Mustang GTX 100 amp. It’s everything I need for practicing or for small gigs. I was so excited when I heard about the fender tone app, and loved the whole idea. This app however, never works correctly and I am completely frustrated. I will try reinstalling for example, and I end up with the same result. The app cannot find my amp. That is disappointing because like I said, it’s a nice idea and well conceived.

Great, but Totally Unreliable. I was very excited to see the 2.0 firmware update for the Mustang GT as I love this amp - when it works. Unfortunately, the amp has a habit of cutting out randomly during use. It will behave briefly as if a noise gate's threshold is raising, until it overtakes all sound from the guitar. Then volume just seems to decay until it's entirely give. Sometimes changing the preset, and then changing back temporarily fixed things.. sometimes it doesn't, and you need to restart the whole amp. Very frustrating, and totally unusable for a live performance. Fender, please please fix this bug so this amp and Fender Tone can live up to its 5-star potential!

Search issue. Can you please fix the search option in the download section? First, you can’t see what you’re typing in and then, once you find what you’re looking for, the search option is gone. Only way I’ve been able to get around it is to close the application and restart. Which requires the app and amp to reconnect. Really frustrating and really annoying.

Adds two of the same effect. Not a user friendly app. Every time you add an effect it puts two effects and one works and the other does nothing. You have to turn each one on and off to know which one to delete. When you click the arrow in the top left to select a different sound selection there is no way to cancel the screen and go back to the previous screen. It forces you to select a selection to get it to back to the previous screen. Poor coding and design.

The app and the amp are terrific.. I Bought the GTX100 amp and immediately it synced up with the app and my WiFi. I was able to get a bigger picture of the effects chain than the display on the amp. Editing is fun, easy, and because of the graphics, feels like I’m using guitar pedals.

GT 100 Amp. I am so proud to own this GT-100. I would have never believed that a Amp could do so much. I’m 58 yrs. and have been playing guitar since I was 10. I have recently decided that it’s time for me to learn how to play lead. And that’s why I bought this amp. The technology on Fenders Amp is simply unbelievable. I prefer southern rock you should here this amp playing train train by Blackfoot. Or Tuesday gone with the wind LS. I have already learned lead on black magic women. I salute the Fenders Engineer s designers and all of there employees! Well done.

Still buggy but will be nice when fixed. I have upgraded my amp to the new firmware and the iOS app is updated but when I try to select some of my presets, it switches back to a different preset automatically. I don’t know what that is all about but something in the software is screwed up and if I would have known about the issue before I upgraded my amp, I would have waited for it to get debugged. I have already submitted the issue to support but have not yet received anything yet. Fingers crossed! I really like this amp and would hate to see it crippled by crappy software.

App and Amp are so cool together.... Using the Fender Mustang GT 100 as a beginner I thought would be too much amp for me but it makes learning wonderfully fun and the app helps considerably. Only practice can make someone a better guitar player but there is something to be said for being able to hear such beautiful and unique tone coming through. Presets from other users further inspire my own creativity and, though I am just starting out, the motivation to find my own tone is there. I was able to grasp how to use the app right away and find myself exploring features both using the controls on the amp or through the app. Great design and all around great product. I’m having a blast!

Fender Tine Version 3.0 -nice upgrade!. Very nice upgrade to an app and amp I enjoy working, experimenting, and playing with. I’ve been a Fender Amp player for 50+ years now. The Bogner amp was a nice addition along with your Blues JR and Vibro-King. The GUI of each amp & pedal saved settings is impressive too!! Thanks for fixing the ‘ bug too. Can’t wait for the next version upgrade with more amps and pedal effects. BTW, I love the Mustang GT 100 so much, I bought three. One for my studio, live stage, and a backup!! Thanks Fender.

Love this amp but Bluetooth is awful. This amp is great when it works. However, each time I want to use it over Bluetooth, I have to spend 15-20 minutes turning off, turning on, rebooting, un-pairing, re-pairing, uninstalling, reinstalling…and so on and so on. This could easily be confirmed in Fenders own test labs on one of its own devices instead of putting end-users through these amateur-ish fixes that we have already tried a dozen times before even contacting Fender. This issue is on Fenders end and needs to be fixed there. Please Fender, provide a firmware upgrade that addresses this issue.

Everything About it is Unreliable. i’ve had problems with it crashing multiple times, I’ve had to recreate an account, my presets have not uploaded correctly, my presets can’t be deleted after I upload them, the support seemed helpless as The gentleman at Fender couldn’t understand any of these problems and couldn’t communicate in a timely manner... probably wasn’t going to buy products from them again unless these problems were solved quickly. That said, Fender did show that they cared about these issues are are now working to get them resolved. I am sure and confident future updates to the app and firmware will only improve the user experience

Need iPad or windows tablet apps. I love the amp but play the guitar. The phone app is to small when you have calicoes on your fingers. iPad and windows app would be great

Awesome app. Such a cool app

Rumble studio 40. A hard copy manual would be helpful, the problem would be making it useful not over simple and not a technical manual the size of a encyclopedia.

Won’t load. To be fair, this rating is based exclusively on the fact that I cannot connect my amp to the app. On both my iPad and iPhone, the app crashes while trying to sync to the amp

iPad app please. I suebthe amp on rehearsals and on gigs, it’s awesome but an iPad app would be aeromarítimo for my rehearsals, thank you

Brilliant Tech. Awesome fun to be had with this amp.

Great sounding amp, but UI is better on my Line 6. I like a range of sounds on this amp. The best way to get them is via the amp controls and the foot switch. I find the phone app a little difficult to navigate. If, for example, I want to switch effects around in my signal chain I have to delete and re-add them. It’s also kind of hard to get the presets I want on the same bank without deleting and adding them. The UI on my Line6 Amplifi app is much quicker to use.

My amp doesn’t update. My amp didn’t connect to Wifi so the app was useless

App Keeps crashing the Mustang Amp. Works really well but often when making my own preset it crashes the amp and I have to turn it off and on again. It freezes the amp and nothing plays. Not sure if others are having the same issue.

I wish you could use it with the mustang lt25. I can’t use the app because it the amp doesn’t have Bluetooth. If fender could make an update on the mustang lt25 that allows to use Bluetooth

So good. Best music ever

I wish it was more reliable. I use this app to control my Mustang GTX amp. Basically every second time I use it I have to force quit it and open it again to connect to my amp.

It’s a must. Great for fender amps

Fender Tone. I find the app to be brilliant and no issues at all connecting it with my Rumble 800 stage. I also enjoy trying out the new sounds via the Internet. At gigs it performs flawlessly, particularly through my iPad display. The best way to become familiar with the range of presets is to play them regularly while rehearsing at home. In this manner they can be accessed quickly and new ones bumped to the foot switch preferences if required.

Great app, BUT .... Mostly happy with this app. Lots of tones with great visual effects. However, when the GTX amp and the phone are paired and you get a phone call, the software needs to disconnect from the amp so you can answer the call. As it is now, when the call comes in you have to first go to Bluetooth settings to disconnect the amp in order to hear the caller.

Just about the best thing ever!!. A perfect thing to have on a budget, truly excellent and uncompromising!

Great Tool. If you have a GT series amp, you need this.

Mustang GTX. Nice amp I like the solid wood cabinet and the speaker and the software I struggle with the Bluetooth and Wifi consistency it’s just not there. Love the amp but if you’re going to gig with it turn off the wifi and Bluetooth

Need better sounds. It’s ok there needs to be more definition in sounds more tone more unique deeper sounds

Needs more bug fixes and content. Great for adjust your own settings however many little bugs that get annoying. Needs more user submitted content and fender made presets of varying artists

Firmware issue. So I recently bought a new GTX 50 amp. I’ve been wanting to try the fender tone app for a while since I was never able to use it on my old amp. The day I opened it, I downloaded some effects I wanted and had a good time with them. Since that day, I’ve been unable to download anymore effects due to a “Limited Functionality” popup on the app whenever I press add. I have updated my amp’s firmware 3 times and have been told there were no updates available. My amp is on version 3.0.96 and am still unable to download presets due to this issue. How do I fix this problem? I have reconnected to wifi multiple times, re-downloaded the app, checked for updates on the amp and nothing has worked.

Bluetooth Issues. I would love to give 5 start for this app, but the bluetooth issue to have to force update the amp every time I want to use it, it is disgraceful. Please Fix it. Edit-answer feedback: yes, I have done everything you are saying. It was in this article that I learned about the force update. I found out something better to do instead of force update. Every time you turn off the amp, go to Bluetooth and unpair device, restart the amp, while doing it turn off and turn on Bluetooth on iPad/iPhone, then try to find amp again. 7 in 10 tries, it works. It takes less time than force update. It would be nice to have a fix about it in the next update. Thank you.

LIES!!!. Seeing as fender refuses to answer emails, I’ll leave them a one star review on here (only because 0 stars isn’t possible) they’re still selling the Mustang I V2 with promises of software to tweak settings. Little do they tell you that they discontinued that software and the new software won’t work with the Mustang I V2. So if you bought it hoping to use it as they promised...... they lied to you and took your money, and they were happy to do so.

Crash on ipad2 iOS 9.3.5. the app crashes at launch on ipad 2 ios 9.3.5. yes its an old device, but the is available for it, and i assume it shoukd then launch properly.

Presets. Hi there! Before i do anything, i’d like to know if there is any risk i will lose all my presets! Lots of complaints about this for V3.0.1. Please confirm i will NOT lose any presets. Thank you.

Wish List. I am still definitely in love with this app and with my GTX100. The very top of my wish list for a feature enhancement to this application would be: The ability to Copy a specific instance of a specific amp/effect and then user goes to desired destination patch AND effect to access the Paste. There are already tons of patch memory slots, so allocating a few to my "all my favourite settings for my amps and effects" master patches.

Almost perfect.... The ability to drag/drop pedals in your effects chain would be helpful. Also, the ability to assign effect to the stomp switches on the amp’s foot switch any way you like is pretty essential IMHO. Lastly, parameter adjustment on the effects should be a) much less sensitive and b) have the ability to input values using the device’s “keyboard”.

New update not syncing. Just updated app and software on amp, presets don’t match anymore? New app looks great wish it worked. Wrote this last night did all the updates today, all looks good but lost my presets and all new tones missing?

Disaster. If I knew this update would wipe out my previous favourite presets which I spent countless hours tweaking and modifying exactly to my taste and getting the sound I need, I would never have touched it with a ten foot pole. Other guitarists who read this before updating the app...DON’T. I’m getting heartburn trying to figure out if there’s a way to restore to my old settings.

Original. Mais difficile à saisir le mode de fonctionnement

Can’t connect. I’ve tried to connect it and turned the amp off then back on but nothing works, I’m an iPhone so I don’t really understand why it isn’t working. Someone help me if you know how to make it work.

Tuner mode. This app is a great way to work my Fender Mustang GTX 50. I truly enjoy using it rather using the controls on the amp itself or switching with the foot switch. I wish there was a way to see the tuner on my iPhone and iPad. A tuner mode feature viewable on my devices in all amp settings would be a major plus for me being a paraplegic and in a power wheelchair I can not use the foot switch on the floor. Or at the very least a tuner effect pedal.

Liked the app but my mustang gt cannot connect. I loved this app when it worked for me.. but since a few weeks now my screen goes to “amp sync in progress” and stays like that for more than an hour until the point I give up. It prompts to not make any changes in the amp settings while the sync is in progress so I just turn my amp and the app on and leave it for hours at times and it’s still on the same screen. I hope they look into it and somehow fix it for me 😞

Doesn’t Work. I had the mustang gt200 the app didn’t work with it now I’m using the gtx100 with an iPhone X and still doesn’t work

App not working with Oct firmware update. The app closes when trying to connect to amp. iOS 12.1 on IPhone SE

Fender tone 3.0. Can’t save in backup/restore

Great App...Great Amp...One Weakness. I am a Rumble user and love the app and the Amp. My only issue is I would love to be able to create and modify patches when not connected to the Amp. Sometimes I am away from the Amp and an idea hits me. It would be great to create a patch.

App update erased all my presets. Same here list all my presets. Where they still on my amp and different on the updated amp? Can I put my amp presets on the tone app on my phone? Thanks

Cool. Vraiment bien j’aimerais simplement savoir sy ces possible de poser des questions

Misleading marketing in Fender Play. In Fender Play it says to use the settings as a guide for your non-compatible amp. Yet I can’t use the app if I don’t have a compatible amp. This was a waste of time to download this app then. And I will never buy your amps, as visibly you contradict yourselves, so how can I trust anything you guys say?

To many bugs. There are too many bugs and sometimes it messes up your settings. When you bypass a pedal it’s parameters change and many other things...

Hard to connect but works well when it finally does. Have to turn on off amp couple times for blue tooth to connect seems to be slow to connect to iPad

Pretty frustrating. I brought home my GT-40 and was excited to start playing around with it. Unfortunately this app has taken a lot of the fun out of that. It was a pain to get it to connect via Bluetooth. Fortunately I was able to get the amp connected to WiFi so I could update the firmware but since that it’s been a pain. If I go to download any presets it tells me I need newer firmware even though it’s on the latest version. I guess I can change the presets from the amp itself but I was hoping that the app would make it easier to operate so I could experiment more freely. I sincerely hope that the app gets fixed ____________________________________________________________________ Update: The new version (3.0) is far better. Blue Tooth connectivity is more intuitive and streaming is easier. I love the visual representation of the different components. This is actually fun now!

Works well, until.... The first setup between app and amp is good, until you stop and play it again a few hours later or a day later. Just keeps saying that is syncing and don't touch the dials. Literally doesn't move any further than this. Yes, the firmware is fully updated and yes my Bluetooth is turned on my iPhone Xr. Needs better syncing.

1 star because of Bluetooth. I’m certain that my issue is with the amp not the app but 9 times out of 10 I cannot get this app to connect to my amp. I usually have to power cycle my amp twice before I can get the two to see each other which is super frustrating.

Easy. Very easy to navigate and set up

Simply Amazing. easy to learn and connect and update. Crazy good sounds for a practice amp. Makes me practice longer. Joy!

Infinite tone options. App makes almost infinite tonal options, the new interface for signal chain looks great and easy to work with. You can listen to any song and replicate it really, really well. Bluetooth always works flawlessly and same with Bluetooth streaming. I started getting issues with the pedal working on custom tones. Pressing the tune footswitch would do nothing as well as switching through effects. Contacted customer and they helped tremendously. Niko

Great app with a couple connectivity issues. This app for the mustang gt series makes them the best practice amp out there , I would give it five stars but sometimes it's a pain to connect , other then that it's AMAZING. Also waaaay better tone from this then the line 6

A Better Way to Tweak. This is a lot easier to use than the encoder wheel/menu buttons on the amp. I like that you can see the signal chain with pictures that make it easier to guess what effect/amp it's trying to emulate too. Further to that, it would be very handy if there were descriptions of the amps/cabs/effects in the app - the way there is in the manual - for those of us that aren't gear connoisseurs. A "what's new" tab would be nice too. 'More effects and amps added' just isn't descriptive enough for me 😁

Very Frustrating. It worked great for a week. Now it is unusable. Doesn’t connect with the amp. “Requires firmware update” when there is no update available. Very frustrated with fender on this one!

You shouldn’t have to be fully updated to use the tone app. Whenever I try to connect to to this app if I’m out of date it won’t work, and a few times I’ve been up to date but it wouldn’t let me join which is a weird bug and makes the app more difficult to use

Ridden with bugs. I have never written a review before but this app is just so awful that I had to. When creating a playlist, it adds random tones instead of the ones you choose, and then deletes random ones instead of the ones you delete. Renders the feature useless.

Finding the right voice. Great for finding the right voice on a recording. In our home studio I play my guitar part and my wife scrolls through various amp setting to converge on the best sound for the song. So much easer! So much faster! So much better recordings!

Worst Bluetooth in history. So let’s go over this...GT40 amp firmware fully updated (per Fender published process) and restarted. App itself deleted and reinstalled. Amp connect to WiFi (it updated...duh) and connects to App. Can play music from iPhone 11, o/s v14.3, to amp via Bluetooth. But your app won’t function STILL because it says the amp firmware (3.0.43) isn’t up to date. This is ridiculous. IT Pro here. Followed your guides to the letter with no update interruptions.

App connectivity. I love this amp! But connecting to my phone is very unreliable. Most of the time I struggle to get it to connect at all. It hooks to the Bluetooth and I can play music but actually being able to do anything with the app never seems to happen for me. But I do love the amp, just would like to take advantage of the app as well.

Great Control. Honestly don’t get how people are struggling with the features in the app. Its pretty straight forward and easy to use. People who can’t figure out this app have no business owning an iPhone or reviewing the product lol.

It’s great until you pair Bluetooth. I want to give it five stars but when my phone randomly pair whatever Bluetooth my phone is sending to my fender GTX 50. No I wish there was a way to stop this from happening as I wish not to break my speaker cone on my Amp because of random Bluetooth pair.

Painful sometimes. Having a lot of issues with the Bluetooth connection. I upgraded to the GTX from my GT because of this and I also changed phones to iPhone. Still not consistently connecting. Annoying.

Bluetooth Woes. I have the latest firmware for the GTX. However I am having issues with Bluetooth connecting to the Amp & App. The quickest fix is to restart the Amp but this is a bit annoying each time I want to use Fender Tone. When it works it is a wonderful App!

Bluetooth bug. Unable to connect Bluetooth to the amp. Also having difficulty with connecting wifi

GTX100. Phenomenal app and product and the interface is amazing. The customization options are also insanely great.

Best Digital Amp i have ever owned, only one but still. I love this amp! I love the fact that i can pick any and every amp and pedal i want and there is no limitations on anything stuck behind a pay wall! Best feature

Awesome guitar amp!!. Fender hits another milestone with the Mustang GT modeling amp series. It's Extremely versatile, portable and great sounding. Choose the sound you want from a selection of vintage to modern killer amps. You can also add an array of effects, cabinet simulations and more. Everything you need from a guitar amp in one convenient package. I highly recommend it.

Never again. App won’t connect, amp needs WiFi to update, haven’t changed a thing and it just stops working, ridiculous waste of money, even when it works it’s a pain to use. Time to buy from a competitor that’s many YEARS ahead of this garbage, music gear has to just work always, shouldn’t need an IT degree to play an instrument...

Mustang Gt 40. Incredible what you can do with this genius software

Song presets. This app should automatically update with all the songs that Fender Play has in the data base. We should have the option of erasing the songs we don’t want. Thanks other than that, I love it

Recent updates improved reliability. Fender made some updates late in 2020 that seemed to resolve my connectivity issues. This app is great and really helps you unleash the functionality of your Mustang amp!

Cool app. Syncing remains buggy.. Love the app. Totally great for all levels. Syncing with Bluetooth continues to be buggy. New update 11/22 major bugs. Trying for 3rd time.

Must read it!!!!. Sorry but this amplifier doesn’t sound the way that you’ve always wanted to sound. It’s digital stuff sounds very buzzy in all the effects, doesn’t make any difference between the “ pedals “ and “ cabinet “. It’s is a joke for all the guitar players out there. In addition you should buy an amplifier of tubes, could be fender pro junior, fender pro jr blues furthermore connected the pedals apart with 1-spot and there you go. The real sound!!!!

Works well. Have the Mustang GTX100, works seamlessly and integrates well. Nice to adjust settings while standing!

Awesome app to go with an awesome amp!. This app is great, I can add all the songs I know to my amp so I don’t have to adjust everything every time, very user friendly

Dope but the sync is annoying. I love controlling the amp but it’s annoying when the app updates and then I can’t controll it with the app after going through the manual amp update process but when its connected zip zap zoom im in there!

Fender Tone. The amp is wonder as well the app, my only complaint is that at time the connection is not made and I must turn off and clear the settings in order to reconnect!

Bad Update. After downloading the new update, things have gone bad. The new interface for dealing with settings is not too pleasant, but the main issue is the connection between phone and amp is horrible, there are big delays when changing settings, and it is not a good experience. Please fix soon.

Awesome app!!!. Love using this to jam. Helps to visually see all the effects, amp mods, etc in the palm of your hands! Nice job fender 🤘🏼

any amp and pedalboard sound easy. This simplifies the control of the Mustang GTX to quickly and easily optimize amp plus pedalboard for any sound. I dont need my computer and its as easy as any tube amp front panel controls. A WINNER!

So easy!!!!. Love the app. It’s incredibly user friendly and allows me many options on my amp

Great interface. Works perfectly. Very intuitive and easy to use. The amp is great as well.

Crashes. Use to work fine until most recent update. App crashes every time I sync to my amp rendering the app useless. The online presets are pretty great.

A great example of added value. I use this with the GT100 and the amp alone is great, with the app it is even easier to manage presets, tweak settings, and build set lists.

Needs iPad Support. The app needs to be designed to work better on an iPad. The current app only works in portrait mode, and even then must be set to zoomed mode. It’s more likely that someone using the app to control an amp is going to be using an iPad, not an iPhone.

Rarely connects. When this app connects to my GTX50 amp, it’s awesome. However, it connects rarely!! The only reliable way of connecting is to delete all Bluetooth settings in the amp, restart the amp, then connect to it. It rarely connects again without deleting all Bluetooth settings. It is very frustrating!! And the internet is full people with the same complaint. PLEASE fix this!!

Need update. Since I’ve updated my iOS software, I have been unable to connect to my amp via Bluetooth. I believe the app needs an update.

Great amp, bad app. The app simply will not stay connected to the amp. I must turn off Bluetooth at the amp - or turn the amp off and on - to reset the connection. When it’s connected, I love the app. It just cannot stay connected. I’ve had the amp and app for fifteen months. It’s a constant struggle. The clown who said the negative reviews are from people who don’t know the app or the amp must be a Fender Tone developer- because he’s full of crap.

All too easy.. So far I’m very pleased with the amp and app. I have a Bassman 100 and a Twin Reverb, and this amp really comes close to my TR, for clean tones. I do find a lot of the dirty tones a little too dirty. But that’s why there are knobs. The app has worked flawlessly for me. Negative reviews may be the result of bad WiFi or weak Bluetooth.

Not so great. Used to be great. My phone updated to iOS 13 and now I have to delete the app and re install it to get it to work.

Fender app is Awesome. This app is really a game changer for guitar players it enables you to change the settings for your guitar app from your phone works great and very reliable

Good idea, poor execution.. App continuously drops Bluetooth connections. After which, it often asks for the amp’s firmware to be updated (it’s updated). The amp already is connected to WiFi. Why Fender doesn’t have this app connect to the amp via WiFi is one of the world’s great mysteries.

Simple and intuitive. Simple and intuitive app for managing the amp. The ability to search for tone settings online and push them right to amp is really cool.

Not good for tinkering. Doesn’t work unless you pair to the amp. Particularly useless if you’re like me and you want to tinker with sounds and effects before you pair with your amp. I have lots of down time at my job and use it for my hobbies, but I can’t do that with this amp. The desktop app lets you customize presets, why not the app?

Doesn’t work with iPadOS14!. Shows Mustang GTX as connected but doesn’t sync with it. It was working before the iPadOS 14 update and I plan to update my review if the app is updated. It is possible to stream music over BT to the amp so the problem is with this app.

Make sure your amp firmware is at 3.0.43. The iPad version of this app did not correctly sync with my GT100 with firmware 3.0 (the amp setting did not match what I chose on the iPad). Updating the firmware to 3.0.43 fixed the problem.

No Wi-Fi signal shows up on menu button of the amp. No Wi-Fi option shows up on my amp and trying to videos and information to try and figure it out and no help anywhere. Great amp but the Wi-Fi option is obviously a defect

Limited Functionality.. Constantly getting “Limited Functionality” message. The app and amp are both up to date and there’s nothing I can find it fix the problem.

Has Good presets but the Bluetooth is bad. I’m not sure if it’s the Fender GTX or if it’s the app but either way every time I’m playing, at some point or another the Bluetooth will go blank. It’ll say it’s still connected to my phone but wont work anymore. Love all the sounds this comes with though… great feature.

….Only a few days in ….. So first things first . If you’re like me , someone who had to suffer with the line 6 amplifi 150 (idk if all amplifi models had same issue) through trying to connect , stay connected and not have connections freeze up while using their apps blutooth “connection”.?.? You’re in luck ! Fender seems to have done Bluetooth right, along with the WiFi , connection is a breeze and solid … it doesn’t suddenly disconnect… and usually connects automatically with Bluetooth, if not it’s two taps and in an instant you connect with no hassle… I know to those who never suffered through the amplifi debacle they called connectivity this may seem like a silly thing to give such high praise … maybe so , but imagine wanting to use something and having to spend up to an hr at times trying to make the thing usable , and then not always able to succeed…Then maybe you’d understand. So as far as controls and editing saved amps , adding and or subtracting any pedal in any order (pre or post also) the app is completely intuitive . Seriously I had nothing in instruction before using the amp/app before the first time I used em both… I mean I just did what seemed obvious as far as connecting WiFi and the instruction I got and needed was after WiFi is connected on how to update firmware on the amp. From then on it’s all common sense almost like you’re making a signal chain out of guitar /amp and physical pedals etc .. except you create it all with a finger tip , it’s super simple …so far there’s been no learning curve beyond finding everything there is to discover within the app, and that’s just a matter of time . If you have an amp this app is meant for you definitely are gonna want this app . It makes life so much easier and gives you just that much more time to play / not get distracted .

Similar to some other folks I see. App used to work great on my GT40, but since the update it’s not recognizing my recent firmware updates and thinks it’s not up to date enough, despite it being 1.3.5 and model 3.0.43. Pretty bummed because I was excited to use the new interface and pedal set.

Great amp, small problem. Connects streaker great, but there is often a random delay when playing something form the phone to the speaker

Downloads Unauthorized. Sometimes the amp works as advertised. I’ve updated the firmware to the latest version and I am still not authorized to download tones from the App. If you are happy with what you can do from the amp itself great. Don’t search the app for tones because you’ll just be disappointed when they tell you you’re not authorized to download it.

Well put together app. Really like it! Doesn’t feel like most apps that are made for random products. You can tell they put time into this to make it look nice, feel seamless, and is very easy to use.
