If you ever go to Peru get this app. The app is based on a popular field guide to Peru and has information on every species you will ever see. Only negative is the images are low resolution.

Bird Nird. This is going to be such a big help! Now the book can stay in the backpack most of the time, rather than clutched in one hand awkwardly as you hold your binoculars. But by far the great thing is the sound recordings! So often they clinch the diagnosis.

Disappointed. After looking at other reviews I am wondering oh I have the same app! There are not enough illustrations. Every time I want to look up a family the search function I can’t see all the members because the keyboard blocks the bottom of the page. Cancelling the search takes me back to the beginning and I have to scroll through the whole darn list. The life list function does not record date or location. I thought I was supposed to be able to use this and it would share my information with eBird. So now I have to keep a paper list. Only benefit is reduction in weight from not carrying the book.

Great app. Sure it's pricey but you get what you pay for. The images are very good and it looks like there are more compared to the book. The main advantage to the app is the calls. It also lets you narrow down the species by 6 regions. There are size, habitat and color filters as well that didn't work great for me but I've never been impressed with these features in other bird guide apps, so par for the course. I'm using it on an iPhone so I can't vouch for how it works on a tablet.

Disappointing. It's just a scanned copy of the paper book, without that much reorganization for an App. It's slow and crashes often on either iPad or iPhone XR.

Good App. Some species don’t have range maps or sound recordings. Other than that, it’s really good!

I love this app!. Now I no longer have to carry the heavy book and it’s very easy to use. However, it will be complete if it had a place where to write down notes where one can store information.

Perfect for that birding expedition. I went to the Inkaterra guide field station in Madre de Dios. This app helped us to identify not only birds we saw but also bird calls we heard. Great app. Would recommend.

Disappointing as a minimum.. This is not at all what I expected from a bird guide. The graphics of the birds themselves are very poor. The example kingfisher picture is indeed all you get - a low resolution drawing. The lay out, comparison between various species, is not available. There is no way to look at relative sizes of the birds. Maps are of low quality - when the distribution of a bird is small a very small clip of a map is presented with no general overview of the range relative to the country itself. Searching by location can be done in about 6 or 7 locations only - all in the super tourist areas such as Cusco. Landscape mode makes the app even worse (if that could be possible). There are significantly better apps available then this one.

Birds of Peru - fair review. This is the best bird field guide App to anywhere south of the U.S. in the New World. It is s pioneering venture and covers an incredible number of species. I can compare it with my use of the Collin's App in Europe, and the Sibley and NGS Apps in North America. I used this App in northern Amazonia for 2 months and the central Andes for 1 week. I've given it 3 stars in hopes that the authors will update it ASAP. 1. It needs more vocalizations. Many are missing, where they can easily be found online. I will try to submit a few recordings that I took on the trip and hopefully they will be accepted into the App! This goes for both species, subspecies, and vocalization types. Sometimes only a song or call is given which can be frustrating while in the field. 2. Errors in naming the plates. This occurs multiple times throughout the App with respect to Male/Female/Immature plumages. A very easy correction that I hope the authors get to ASAP. 3. Illustrate more subspecies, age and sex plumages. Rather than waiting for the 3rd edition of the book to come out (I assume there will be???) please have the principle artists illustrate a few dozen more plumages. 4. Maps. If future updates could include more of what the book version has with respect to maps. Inclusion of subspecies areas on the maps would be a huge asset. Other Apps have done this. 5. Hopefully future species maps can include eBird data which will be able more accurately map the occurrence. 6. "Rare". I feel like this term is used too often in describing species status that are perhaps just more likely referred to as "very uncommon" or "uncommon and local", etc. 7. Search. They need a search function for scientific names. Very important for biologists and for those trying to converse between English/Spanish, etc. *** I think this App is excellent. But I also think it has much more potential to be more accurate and include more information. I look forward greatly to future updates, thanks to all who put this together.

Great Resource, But More Vocalizations Desirable. Nothing else nearly so comprehensive and authoritative available for Peru, a nation whose avifauna is very complex. Good to see updates of nomenclature provided, but not enough recordings: several species are not covered, and in many instances the range of recordings offered for species is too limited.

Must have for a serious Peruvian birder. Do not go birding in Peru without this app! Better than the book alone because of the calls. Yes some species do need a larger call library, but considering it’s in an app and so easily accessible I can’t complain

Great app. Could use some technical adjustments. Love this app. It’s kept up to date and the acoustics are unparalleled. Only has some issues with searching Latin names, and the viewing gets weird when sorting or searching sometimes.
