FingerFiddle App Description & Overview

What is fingerfiddle app? Turn your iPad into an instrument of the violin family and play just like on a real instrument !

FingerFiddle introduces a new and highly sensitive musical experience with your IOS device. Your actions on the screen are turned naturally into an exceptionally realistic and responsive sound, whatever you do. Place your fingers on the fingerboard to change notes. Move your other hand on the screen to rub the strings with the bow and shape the sound continuously in real-time. Pluck the screen to play pizzicato. FingerFiddle responds accurately to your movements and lets you play with the full palette of violin expression, just like with a real instrument.

FingerFiddle is a musical instrument that you can bring with you everywhere to play, practice, have fun and perform with others. It includes a full collection of fine-tuned instruments from the violin family (violin, viola, cello and double bass). Superb sound and Articulations. This is the kind of music app the ipad is made for. Takes full advantage of the touch interface to provide a level of playability and expression that would be impossible to replicate on a vst instrument. The Cello is very expressive allowing articulations based on strength of bow (based on finger surface area), distance from bridge (based on location of touch) and even the ability to add vibrato and even pluck strings soft (slow swipe) or hard (faster swipe of strings). With the addition of Audiobus/IAA I suspect this will take the prize for the most expressive and realistic Strings on ios.

Great modeling and playability!. This program has great string and resonance modeling, "expensive" for an app, (if you get the IAPs), but still pretty cheap for other instruments and desktop instruments. It takes full advantage of the touch pads' X,Y and pressure (or touch radius on non -iPad Pros). It's therefore very instrumenty, turning gestures into subtly synthesized audio in a way that even professionally playing on keys cannot describe.

A violin app that is not a violin. Considering the name of the application says “play music like a real violin”. I assumed that that’s what I was paying for. It’s actually a cello. Why isn’t that in the title? I downloaded it and noticed that there was an additional cost for the violin. I went back to the app description to see, and the fact that the violin isn’t included in this already paid application is nicely hidden in the long description. Very clever!

It's unbelievable.. I was a skeptical at first, but am truly amazed. The way the notes respond to various changes in position, bow pressure and speed, it is mesmerizing. With just a little practice I was able to play a reasonably nice melody-- and it is easy to imagine ways this could be used to create expressive parts for many types of projects. This app is very special.

Hyper-realistic string quartet. Realism and control of various string instruments in FF is amazing. Integrating the strings into a DAW workflow is easy and fast, and the file size is small. How is this amount of "realism" accomplished without gigabytes of samples? FF is one of my top, very favorite instruments on iOS. The IAP quartets are worth the price.

Enthralling...♥️🎶🎻🎸🎶. Been testing the audio in my jamup app channels with my new guitar interface and recorded the cello and my virtual Stratocaster playing solo guitar. The two sit so well together in harmonics that I’m thinking of using the cello too in my songwriting of something I’m making. I have a real live Stratocaster too but haven’t recorded it yet with the new interface but sure will and I think it’ll also sound good with the cello. It’s always lovely to keep getting more positive musical inspirations. ♥️🎶 God bless you.

Simply Smashing!!!. If the virtual stringed instrument industry is a competitive market, then developers beware! ‘Finger Fiddle’ has cornered the market FOR SURE! With a dynamic range of harmonic overtones FF is the closest thing to that beautiful cello or mournful viola solo this side of hiring YoYo Ma that you could ever hope to get. I’ve attempted to recreate these sounds in my studio via soundfonts, samples, and various VSTs for years. None of them comes even close to FF. Not in tonal quality. Not in depth of realism, and especially, and most refreshingly, not in price. If you’re a serious producer, musician, or even just someone curious to learn or play. I can’t thank the developers enough for this. And, my only feedback for the future would be to diversify into more instruments. Guitars, lap steels, mandolin, resonators, ukulele... even woodwinds, brass and percussion. I’d buy every app on its public release date! Thank you again for the remarkablly realistic and sonically stunning sound. I love it!!! And I love you!!! Cheers mates!

Awesome!. This is fantastic! The app responds accurately to touch from both hands. Sounds great too! Get this and have fun!

What a great app!. Is almost like playing a real violin. I'm having so much fun messing with this ingenious app.

Absolutely phenomenal. Never have my ears heard such a realistic soft synth. This rivals desktop string sample libraries in sound quality and I have never would have expected this out of the iPad. Maybe some ears can tell it apart from the real thing but mine can't. Definitely gonna use this for future compositions.

The virtual cello I've been waiting for. This is an amazing instrument! The playing is intuitive and very expressive. The interface is beautifully thought out and the sound quality is fantastic. Like the real thing, it will take some practice to learn to hold it properly and play it well, but probably less practice than the real thing. This is a bargain at this price.

Easily the best strings app. This is by far the most realistic, expressive and enjoyable violin/cello app I’ve used so far, and I’ve tried pretty much every other app that tries to do this. The expressiveness is far, far beyond what any other controller gives you, especially with 3D Touch, the bends are some of the most natural I’ve experienced, and feel exactly how I’d want them to feel on a physical instrument, and the sounds are amazing (especially the warm, smooth Viola). I am truly blown away. My only request is please, PLEASE add Apple Pencil 2 pressure support for the bow force to mimic 3D Touch on the iPad, it would be amazing to have this same expressiveness on the larger device.

Realistic!!. I have iSymphonic and Garageband, but they don’t exactly give me much control, this app gave me so much more than any app could possibly give me! i wish the lower strings had a slightly higher quality though.

This is a extremely cool instrument. There is nothing like this on the App Store. It's the closest you will come to playing Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass on your iOS device. The physical model achieves incredible realism. My name is Jordan Rudess and I endorse this awesome app. Great job.

Pleasantly Suprised. I love this app. I’ve been on a quest for the perfect cello app. I bought iSymphonic which sounds phenomenal but doesn’t give you much control. Garageband has great string sounds and lots of options but again, you’re not actually playing cello. I almost bought one to learn on! I gotta say tho, this cheap little app has some promise. Once you get the hang of it, it starts feeling like a real cello. If anyone has any other cool cello/orchestral apps, let me know.

Great app!. This App sounds just like a real bowed instrument. You can do the vibrato without the 3D feature. Wiggle your finger that picks the notes and the instrument comes alive!

Outstanding. You can tell when developers put some love into an app. I'm no musician, but this app blew my mind. So impressive!

Mind. Blown.. This is fantastic. I will be re-recording some parts in my musical projects using this. Kudos to the devs for such a musical and intuitive UI. Very inspirational. I wish I could keep it to myself, but it deserves recognition. Trills work. Not sure about open-string harmonics but it sounds like you can get them with careful bow technique. Practice is rewarded. I'm going to stop raving now.

Very cool!. I don't have any idea how to play a bowed instrument, but this makes me want to get the fiddle I have repaired and start! It's an interesting app with great sound! Amazing thought has gone into this app. Very real sounding! Nice work! Of course someone who really plays bowed instruments will find it less than, but it's really is a charmer. When it gets an update to support Audiobus I'll be VERY interested in pursuing it further. Amazing stuff coming out for portable devices! Okay back to the sawing!

Immediately Impressive synthesizer. I've only spent a short time with this synth so far, but I think it is exactly what I've been waiting for in physically modeled string synthesis. FingerFiddle is way more playable than comparable Reaktor ensembles played via keys and modwheel. It might also sound better than the bowed string Reaktor ensembles I've tried, though the expressiveness really has a lot to do with the resulting sound. FingerFiddle is the most expressive soft synth I've used so far (due to the touch interface). Maybe Reaktor with a good iPad-OSC setup can compare, but why go through the configuration trouble when FingerFiddle is just instantly playable? The only thing missing is something I don't know how to ask for: being able to record the performance data into a DAW as MIDI, and play back the performance to a synth via MIDI. No instrument plugin or Reaktor ensemble is likely to have exactly the same modeling parameters as any other. It seems this is where we must perform and record audio... just like with the traditional instrument FingerFiddle models.

Finger fiddle. This is a rip off. The app does not work for the intro price of $2.99. It wants you to buy every instrument separately at high cost. There are better apps for less price do a great deal better.

Close as you can get. As I cellist I have to say this is not quite the same thing - but it’s as close as you can possibly get with a touch interface, and the range of expression is superb. This is not quite a stringed instrument - but it’s close enough to do almost everything. It’s also good software: small memory footprint, good performance, *exceptionally* responsive even on old hardware, and a simple and clean interface.

Quite realistic. This is a great app. The modeled sound is very realistic, and the interface is quite expressive. The developer has some great ideas for future improvements, and is very receptive to suggestions, so this great app will only get greater!

Best of its class, BUT SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO KEEP BEING SUPPORTED. These are the best sounding strings you'll find on iOS. None even come close, this IS the STRINGS KING. I use this for music production, and it's brilliant. The last update was two years ago, so I'm thinking this app will become obsolete eventually if the dev doesn't continually update it to support iOS changes and/or new features and sounds for the app. PLEASE KEEP UPDATING, I'LL KEEP BUYING, YOU DESERVE IT!

Great app. If you are looking to simulate an isolated violin performance, this can’t be beat. Playing it to sound like a fiddle (playing adjacent open strings) is challenging, but nothing is perfect. The developer is very responsive and enthusiastic about his creation. Well worth the money.

Good start, could be better. In terms of raw expressive power, FingerFiddle is quite powerful, certainly on par with SWAM instruments. For the price, it can’t be beaten. So it is a shame that, for all its good qualities, FingerFiddle is not on par with baseline standards for instrument apps. One thing that would drastically improve the quality of FingerFiddle is oversampling. Performing slow glissandi or sul ponticello on the high strings reveals the telltale “AM radio tuning” of aliasing distortion. This alone makes the app unsuitable for solo performances or any situation (effects, reverb) where the aliasing would increase. There is also the matter of control. Ideally, there would be some support for MIDI and MPE input AND output, possibly with each string allocated to its own channel. I also noticed that, though five-string basses are common for cinematic music and pops repertoire, no such option is available for the bass models. This is disappointing, though not as mission-critical as MIDI or sound engine improvements. Until these changes are implemented, this is a novelty, not a performance tool.

Got me out of a creative rut. I got this on impulse after seeing it on synthtipia. I'm honestly blown away. I spent all night last night playing it, and all day this morning recording it through some effects (reverb with some modulation). It does everything you can think of, and sounds amazingly real. This was done extremely well. Besides a graphic interface that isn't to my taste, this app is perfect.

Sound of Music. This is brilliant app. Realistic sounds and get you started even if you know little and build your skills over a period of time and there are no limits. Wish they could add fretless option and a few instruments like Indian Sarangi.

Wow!. Really neat app, thank you!! The physical modeling aspect is intriguing too, how the sound changes based on how close to the bridge you bow, or how fast.

Ok.... Well, this would be a GREAT app, but you can only play the cello, and you have to pay $5 for any other instrument. If you could play every instrument it'd be awesome, but you can't. So if you're only looking for a cello app, it's great.

Fantastic!. This is amazingly expressive and realistic! It takes a little practice but not much really to create impressive and useable string lines. This is great for anyone who’d like to have strings in their compositions. If you are a budding arranger, this will help you to write parts for real string players that are abundantly playable. It gives you such a useful experience of the real instrument. It will also be great for recording. Astonishing that this doesn’t seem to use audio samples as such. It’s a small download and well worthy the money for the complete set.

Really impressed.... With this app. Extremely expressive and realistic sounding app. Well worth the purchase price.

Very realistic. This is a level of realism that I've never heard in a keyboard. Highly recommended.
