Rhythm Swing- Music Drills App Reviews
Rhythm Swing- Music Drills App Description & Overview
What is rhythm swing- music drills app? From the creator of Flashnote Derby comes a fun and educational app that helps kids learn about rhythm and how it is written with music notation.
Students will love outwitting the nasty crocodile by tapping rhythms correctly. A variety of levels take students from simply keeping a steady beat up through all different types of notes and rests. The humorous gameplay will keep them motivated to master each new concept.
Each level of Rhythm Swing has a brief instructional video which explains the new rhythm concept. Students can view and listen to short musical phrases and hear exactly how they sound. In practice mode, you can attempt hundreds of rhythms until they are mastered. Helpful feedback will guide you in fixing any mistakes. When the student is ready, they can progress to the game, which requires precise accuracy.
Types of Rhythms Covered:
Quarter Notes and Quarter Rests
Half Notes and Half Rests
Whole Notes and Whole Rests
Dotted Half Notes
Eighth Notes and Eighth Rests
4/4, 3/4, and 2/4 Time Signatures
More levels featuring more complex rhythms are coming soon!
Here's what some of our early reviewers are saying...
"My students and I LOVED Rhythm Swing. It was a real eye opener as to which of my students could instinctively keep a steady beat."
- K. W., piano teacher
"This is a great app. I am using it with beginners. It helps to maintain the steady beat ...at different tempos. What makes it different from other rhythm apps is that it requires holding half notes for two full counts, it progresses slowly enough to use with beginners and it uses different tempi in each level. Thank you!"
- J. Z., piano teacher
"After playing with Rhythm Swing for awhile my students and I have grown to enjoy it. Most of them like the practice section better than the game because they feel less pressure but eventually they all get around to playing the game. I have all positive things to say about it so far... Keep up the great work!"
- S. C., piano teacher

16th notes. My student is begging for 16th notes. Any chance we will have these soon?
Accuracy is too strict. Very fun rhythm game that I's like to play with my students. The quarter notes fall exactly on beat. The half, dotted halfs, and whole note are only counted as errors even though they are correctly touched on the beat. Doesn't matter which accuracy level is selected. Please fix!
Great supplement to piano lessons. The kids like helping the money escape from the alligator! They also like the fact that as they tap the beats on the screen, they are playing notes to the song that plays on the background. Very cool! I can change the level of strictness as far as how they tap the beat, and I can control what rhythm they are challenged with based on what they have learned so far. Great app!
Great for Teaching Piano. This app has been a game changer in teaching my elementary piano students about rhythms!! Huge!! Now when they play a song, I say “think about the monkey!” And they immediately play with an even tempo. I also love this developers Flashnote Derby. A few requests/suggestions; Can you make this app like Flashnote where I can keep track of each students progress? Also - the kids seem to fear the monkey getting “eaten”. Although it does motivate them to try harder! Maybe take that fear out of the game. Thanks so much for a great tool in teaching piano!
Great App! Hope More Levels Are Added!. UPDATE JANUARY 2018: I am still using this app and find that it is enjoyed very much. I hope the developer can add more musical background tracks to the already awesome amount that there is. It would make the game more refreshing and interesting to players. How about adding in triplets and 16th notes? What about 6/8 time? All the improvements that have been made so far have been very good. Please keep on expanding and updating this app! It’s a real winner! The only complaint I have was brought to my attention by a young student. When the Boss Level starts, the audio soundtrack of the alligator stomping onto the screen from the left does not match the animation. It seems to be out of sync. 2017 REVIEW: This is a very well put together and cleverly executed app. I hope the developer plans on adding more levels to the game to incorporate such things as 16th notes and triplets and 6/8 time.
Crashes. Watching the lessons and it suddenly crashes and exits me out the app. Very disappointed.
Excellent for teaching rhythm, sound quality could be a little better. This app is great for teaching kids rhythm but the sound quality could be better
Good for younger students. I wish the tempos were a little faster. My 4-year-old daughter had a hard time keeping the beat, she kept being ahead. Slow is not necessarily easier. That said, she was super excited to play it and I know it will appeal to my younger students who struggle with harder games.
Great, but.... My kids love this app. However, I’m not sure if it’s a problem with the app or something else, but I cannot get this app to share on family sharing.
This is a great app for kids and teachers. This is great for learning it’s very fun very very Anna gives you lessons it was worth the four dollars definitely
Overall very good game. First I would highly recommend this game. It is a lot of fun. I only give 4 stars because there isn’t a huge selection of rhythms or time signatures. (No 6/8 time and very few 3/4 time) Also 16th notes and ties would be great. This game is excellent for children. It would also be bomb if there were endless modes / endless practice modes or full songs.
Timing. The app is okay but the sound from the note being tapped is just slightly slower than the metronome, which throws off my students.
Good but... The backing tracks are garbage and feel off from the metronome.
Great rhythm game. This is just the type of game I look for in a game for my piano studio. Wonderful!
Fun, but keeps crashing. I bought this to use with my piano students. The game portion of the app works great! However, the lessons keep crashing, and sometimes they don’t load correctly. Hopefully this can be fixed because I really want all my beginners to purchase this app.
Love this app!. This has become the favorite rhythm app in my studio. All my students ask to play 'the monkey game' each week, even those who have it downloaded at home. I have found students of all ages love this app, even those the teens. I especially love that they must not only tap at the correct time, but they also must hold the note for the correct length of time. None of my other rhythm apps require that and I really needed an app that correctly addressed this issue. My youngest students are easily catching onto the idea of beats now. AND as a bonus, I am finding all my students are counting out loud while playing this game (even those who have been resistant to that for years) and the counting is transferring over to the music they play. It is like magic! Teaching rhythm has just gotten a whole lot easier!
Crashing. This app keeps crashing in Learn. That’s not right. I paid for it not to crash.
A student favorite!. Love this app for all ages. Looking forward to android so all students can get it at home!
AWESOME app!!!. This app is amazing! I can’t wait to see how this is going to advance my 6 year old twin boys. They love to play this!
Needs to go further. The app is fun, very clear and kids really like it. They get involved trying to save the monkey, but does this really go only till eighth notes? I really think you should add triplets and sixteenth notes to be a complete rhythm basic app, maybe to unlock those levels after finish these ones, so kids get motivated to keep going.
Great app!. I use it daily with my private piano students. They love it! Great work! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great little app. My kids love the application. However, like many others I agree that 16th notes would be great to have. I would also add that it would be great to have a coaching feature. Letting the kids know that they either played the note too long or short. With younger players they get confused on which direction they should go.
Way better than rhythm flash cards!. My students LOVE this. They are so excited about the monkey game and I am so excited about them counting correctly! Thank you for creating a wonderful app. Maybe you can create a similar app for practicing intervals :)
Entertaining, but falls a bit short. The app is very entertaining and addicting, which is great for young students. However, many of us have found tapping the notes to demonstrate rhythm is frustrating. Like piano maestro, I would much prefer the app hear me tapping on a drum or the lid of my piano. This would mimic more real-life application of rhythm.
Disappointed. Can’t get the app to work and can’t find link for developer contact. (I’m a piano teacher.)
Video resources don’t work. It “downloads” but I only hear the audio and can’t see the actual video with the learning tips
My students love this app !!. All my students ask to do this every week !! It is such a fun way to reinforce rhythm! I would love if the developers would add sixteenth notes and more complex rhythms .
Decent. This is a well-organized app, it is cute & fun & good way for students to practice rhythms. However, I felt it was missing some key features: -the tempos can not be adjusted by the teacher & some of the tempos are really fast - there is no way to chart a student's progress like in other apps such as classroom maestro - it is definitely only for beginners because it doesn't go beyond 8th notes

Crashes every time. So disappointing!! App looks good in the preview but every time we download a lesson despite requesting the lessons store on the device and having ample storage, the app crashes out and returns us to the home screen. We’ve uninstalled, reinstalled, checked settings and updated the iOS to no avail.
Love it. A fantastic app. I love using this in my teaching as a learning tool and “reward”. Good fun especially for younger musicians who are starting their musical journey!!
Good app for teaching kids rhythm. But please add more levels, 16ths and triplets please.
Game randomly crashes. School games shouldn’t cost money and it crashes so much

Great rhythm game for all music students. My students really love this app. We even use it for piano exam practice. A suggestion would be to advance it up to 16th notes and the dotted quarter-eighth combo (or even dotted eighth-sixteenth). They all really love it, and we just wish it could be used for even longer. Thanks Luke!
Close but not quite!. This seems like a great app but I've found one serious error: the background music during the quarter note practice is in 6/8 (or 12/8 I guess)! It clicks 1-&-a, 2-&-a, 3-&-a, 4-&-a which is very confusing.
