Idle. It’s great that you offer free charging but you should implement idling fees. You already turn off the charge after 2 hours but you should charge a fee if it is not unplugged after 15-30mins. I was at a mall where one car was plugged in for half the day. The station was listed as available but the car was still plugged in and occupying the parking spot. Overall, thank you for what you do but we need to do something about idling users.

Only 50% accurate. Most of the time, none of the available spots are really available. Maybe it’s a time lag issue but don’t count on this if you really need a charge and definitely don’t go out of your way to go there.

App does not work frequently. This is the second time the app has been logged out and when I attempt to log in it just pulses the logo and eventually reverts to the login screen, and the outages persist for over an hour. The map also shows no chargers. I verified my internet connection. It’s clear that their APIs are spotty and lack any fault tolerance. It’s hard to consider driving to a Volta charger if the system is frequently down and I have simply driver elsewhere.

Unhelpful. The point of the app should be that it tells you if a charging station is available. It does not do that. It only tells you if a car is actively charging. In other words, a car could be plugged in, taking up the station, but not charging. The app tells you that the station is available, when in reality it is not. They need a system to notify users when the station is actually free and available for use. It should be simple to do that.

Fantastic app. Greatest charging company out there imo. Only downside is that the app doesn’t always register if a station is free or in use accurately. There’s many times the stations are reported as free, or busy, only for me to look in person and see the opposite

More sites in Indianapolis please. I go out of my way to shop at this Kroger to use the charger. It would be awesome to have more than just 2 sites in the Indianapolis area. Also need some in a few other cities/towns like Beech Grove, Columbus, Seymour, Fort Wayne, Bloomington, Frankfort,Lafayette. lots of room for growth in Indiana!

Refreshingly sleek and functional. Leaps and bounds better than EA and ChargePoint. App is simple, sleek, and it just works. Just a shame that there doesn’t seem to be that many Volta chargers around. Hopefully that changes.

More Accurate. It will be 5 stars if the charging station shows more accurate available vs total spot information. The station I used shows 2 available spots before I arrived. When I arrived, it still shows 2 spots available but in fact only one available. When I started using one spot, the station still shows 1 spot available but in fact there were none available. When I finished using it and beginning to leave it still shows one spot available. Inaccurate information can cause a lot of disappointment.

Too slow. I would prefer to pay for a charge than suffer through this incredibly slow charging process. We had dinner and did a little shopping over the course of about 2 hours. In that time, it added 30 miles of range to our Tesla.

Lifesaver. Not sure what other reviews are talking about. My app stays logged in. These L2s provide a good current. We are getting 6 to 7 kw. We are grateful because EVGO has reliability issues and luckily we were close enough to home that our local Volta charger is saving us a tow to the dealership. Never lick a gift horse in the mouth, we are grateful for the free chargers and the app is quite good.

Volta is 100% FREE.. As an EV driver (Tesla), I can tell you that I prefer Volta over any of the other level 2 charging stations. Why? First and foremost, Chargepoint, Blink, EVGo costs $$$$ to the consumer (most of the time, sometimes Blink is free). Volta is 100% FREE. It makes it free by charging for the advertisements on the electric billboards. Second, the charging stations are physically located closest to the entrance of whatever store/mall/etc it is located. So you get a prime parking/charging location. So I was ecstatic when they announced their IPO this year. Can’t wait for the future!

Free and great. This was my first charge at a faster charger and with my first electric vehicle; it’s at the mall and gives 39 mins free, I am hoping every day. Will be back and look for other Volta chargers for sure.

Need more. Thank you so please let me know if you have time to have all store parking lots installed one because it is the future.

Pretty good. They’re doing a very good job at installing free level two chargers. I have experience at times that the app won’t update the charting station. Like there would be a car that be plugged in but the app shows that the charger is available when it is not. I hope they fix that soon

Tesla car owner. I enjoy free charging at the Volta charge station, but am annoyed by other owners not moving the car long after completion of charging. I left complain notices on the cars couple times. I recommend membership for charging at Volta and a small charging fee up to 2 hours. I also recommend charging a standby fee for not moving the car after completion of charge, similar to that charged by Tesla supercharge station.

Don’t work. I’ve been to the one on Manchester by Vons store and only one works and the one on Sepúlveda they both don’t work. I think it would be a good idea to have cameras to see who is messing up with the charging machine. Is a good service but it would be nice more in different places

Charging made easy Peezy. This is the way the electric vehicle world will work…… I will go shopping at the gap or Old Navy or I’ll get a Duchess burger or shop at Trader Joe’s or have a subway at one of two subway shops or get a massage!!!!! Real Time. Would get 5 stars if the actual availability were more accurate. Quite a bit of time transpires before the app shows the actual state of availability, when a client connects or disconnects, whether the charger is “in use”or “available”.

Expedient and courteous customer service. The app works well. It’s essentially a map that only shows Volta charging stations near you. Nothing fancy, but functional. There’s nothing more I’d want from an app. When I had an issue with a charging station, I called the 1-800 number, but didn’t hear back that day. Once I put it in through the app on the following day, they emailed me back within the hour. Although the number is not the best way to get ahold of someone at Volta, the issue report feature in the app does seem to make up for that. This app is helpful, simple, and useful. Love it.

Hard to complain about free!. Love your service, thanks for the juice! The app does the basic of finding a charger. Some features that would make it killer. 1. “In use” is ok, but time remaining to 100% or the 2hr limit would be huge since this isn’t displayed on the charger and often the drivers are not there. 2. Checking in should be mandatory, sending notifications when charge is nearing completion or 2hrs is almost up. 3. You need to impose some temporary bans on those who are going over or idling. Pay services charge a hefty rate for this poor etiquette. Thanks for listening.

Won’t load with cellular data!. I love the idea of Volta, but recently, the app won’t load with my data. It works perfectly fine on WiFi, but when I switch it over to data, it doesn’t load. I’ve checked that data is turned on for the app, and I can load other pages, so it’s not a problem with the data.

More power to Volta. Gotta love free electric miles. Great experience charging my Tesla Y. I have so far used it at 3 different locations. Their business model is to provide free charging with Advertising revenue. Try supporting this charging network by patronizing the businesses that advertise with them. Go Volta!

5 Stars When Their Machines Actually Work. These things are so inconsistent. The app will show available and you drive there and the space already has someone charging in it. You reload the app and is still says the same thing. ……… OH and these things are “OUT OF ORDER FOR MONTHS AT A TIME”. This company has gone way down hill since they sold it.

Poor maintenance and support. Tried contacting Volta through email several times over a year ago about issues at several of their locations, (Feb2024) still no response. Some of their chargers are still left inoperable or without proper voltages to support a good level 2 charging experience. I’m seeing other reviews about “burnt” connectors after charging at a Volta causing serious electrical damage to their cars charge port or the adapter they are using. I have yet to see Volta reply to anyone’s concerns here or in any other forum (like PlugShare) to start addressing these issues. It’s like they’re asleep at the wheel.

Needs work. I have submitted countless revisions only to have nothing changed. It is annoying when I drive 5 miles out of my way to an “available” charger only to find out when I get there, there is one plugged in even though the app says it is free. I even refresh it on my way there to make sure I don’t need to turn around. Also it is misleading to say up 2 hours free charging when there is a clear sign on some stations that says 45min parking ONLY. Why not be more transparent and update these issues?

Location Hours.. I LOVE that you and your partners are helping the environment with free charges to the public. I only ask of one think. That in the app you also implement the time they are in service. I need a emergency charge because we just traveled a little to far in our new car. Logged on to the app found a location and when we arrived at the Homegoods the units were cut off. The sign stated on during business hours. We were stranded until AAA towed the car back home. There were other locations that were not accurate in location using google maps. I hope you fix the issues, your doing a great service.

Bizarre, broken, do not trust: zero stars. Until today, this seem like a fairly ordinary electric vehicle charger finding app. Then it went berserk. At a charging station with six chargers available the app oscillates between telling me that there are 40 available and that one is out of service and telling me that there are 24 available. The eyes in my head can only find six. I am about to delete this app. Perhaps they will fix it.

Great app, wish it were CarPlay compatible. I love this app. When I get to a large shopping complex near me I can look to see which chargers are free. My only wishes are: 1) make it CarPlay compatible so I can see what chargers are around me without having to hold my phone (illegal to do while driving in my state) 2) if a charger is busy tell me when that charge began. Since I know the time limit of charging I could get a sense of when it may be free again.

New app works great and I can vote. Loving the new update. It works like a charm on iOS 14 and I even was able to register to vote right from the station. They’re even running a message supporting the USPS - what’s not to like!? I even used the app in a garage and only had 1 bar LTE.

Easy to Use. Just pull into the parking spot; get out and plug in your vehicle; walk into the grocery store. When you come out your vehicle is ready to go. Easy and so quick.

Lost timers on stations. Recent update removed the timers on charging stations. This was useful to have an idea when a station might be free. The developer response that they rolled back based on learnings is ridiculous. What did you learn? That people are abusing the 2 hour limit and you don’t want to be accountable? Lots of non EV cars parking at the District in Tustin locations and no one seems to care. Pretty irritating when it shows several spots open only.

App is bad/company shady. I like Volta chargers, however the company does not return phone messages or emails. Recently I wanted to search for chargers in an unfamiliar area and the app had signed me out and a bright orange bar appeared with message that I needed to reset my password. I tried to do it thru the app. It did not send me email or give me any way to do that so I could not use the app. When I got home I attempted to reset on my home computer and could not. I tried to get help and they only have email support and they did not get back to me. I also looked up their corporate phone number and got the answering machine. They did not return my call. Volta is also doing public private collaborations, putting stations in the public commons and then the station being off limits to the public. Letterman digital arts building in San Francisco is the one I got kicked out of. Next time maybe I should just drive over to their headquarters on De Haro st so I can talk to someone in person. D- grade for customer support and starting to so shady practices like building chargers accessible by the public but they end up being privately owned.

Overall pretty reliable free charging. The mobile status of the chargers are pretty consistent but once in a while you’ll show up thinking it’s free but someone is still plugged in there. It can be pretty frustrating but I’ve noticed this has improved a lot over time. It’s free, so I love what they’re doing but there room for improvement.

I would like to thank Volta Charging for their efforts to provide free charging here at Neshaminy mall and other locations around Philadelphia (Pa) - I would also like to thank advertisers for this successful partnership. very practical while i am at the mall distracting myself my car is loading and very safe. Thank you so much VOLTA.

Use To Be Useful. I don’t get why the Volta app will not retain the user’s login and vehicle information. It is a real pain to have to log in every time you open the app—especially if driving and in need of a charging location nearby. I have set my vehicle during login and in the settings and if continues to ask for your vehicle before it will display locations. It didn’t always behave like this, I don’t know they’ve taken their app backwards. Some huge improvements would be to allow the app to know which station you are using, and communicate with users that their charge is complete so that chargers can be available to other users. It is helpful to have their chargers available, but their app is lacking in every way.

Very nice simple app. I love its simplicity. Not sure if it shows real-time charging - I feel as though I have to log in and out just to be sure what I’m seeing in the screen is current. Would be nice if it actually cuts off charge at 2 hours so that people who abuse the time limit get cut off and others waiting can use it. Can you add more chargers on the Kapolei side of Oahu? That would be great :). Thank you for this app. :)

Great support, but lacking features. Volta responses to concerns about charging stations in Hawaii super fast. The representatives are super nice and comprehensive. The one thing that we don’t like at the chargers is that we never know when one is not working. If we get to a charger early to avoid lots of lines, we can sit in our car up to an hour before the unit turns on and not even know that the station is broken. So, we wish to know if the station is broken but there’s no way to tell. Anyway, thank you so much for the free energy!

One request - the Mario is a shopping center location recently stopped working after midnight, but it’s in front of a 24hr Safeway....would be great if it worked till at least 2 am for those of us who aren’t able to shop till later.

Needs some work.. The app needs to list the type of plug. J1772 is not at every station, but is turning into the level 2 universal plug. Many of the Tesla to J1772 adapters don’t work with a lot of Tesla style plugs. It’s nice that the charging is free, but you should have to use the app to start charging and impose a daily limit per user, per charge station. The only Volta charging station that is near me is always occupied by the same few Teslas. I assume they work in the area and just come out, unplug, and then plug right back in. I’m new to the electric community, and so far I’ve not been impressed by the people in it. It feels more like the Smug South Park episode.

They are popping up. It is great to see more chargers available! We really appreciate the free charging with Volta. We went electric a number of years ago and while most of our charging is at home, finding affordable charging on the road is great. Thanks Volta!

Upkeep at Redwood City Sequoia #1. I love it. Sometimes the ‘x of y available’ notification at app shows station available when none is. It would be good to show ‘charge time remaining’ at app OR time charging started, so one can estimate when a station might become available. Charging cable rubber conduit separated from handle/plug for #1. Power carrying cables may rip any time — maybe this is a problem why station shows as ‘available’ A blue Tesla [last three digits 853 - you know who you are] frequently stays plugged in for several hours at the Redwood City Sequoia stations; sometimes 9am onwards all day. Not cool!! 🤔

Volta simple to use, efficient and Free. Have always found Volta stations to be clean and operating. The App allows you to see if a station is available so you don’t waste any time. Normally you are allowed 2 hours of charging which should meet anyone’s need before it is given up for someone else’s use. Don’t be a selfish Hog and be considerate of other EV’s needs. It is a 10+ service!

Awesome public service!!!. Having access to a free public charging station is a very strong motivator to shop at the store in that Shoping Mall. I also love the two hour limit as it forces folks to cycle off and give others a chance to get some free miles. I also greatly appreciate the app as it provides a mechanism to determine if one is available for use. Thank you Volta!! Please add more free charging stations in our area, your advertisements are also super cool. Bright colors, huge display, and fun to watch. I also appreciate the length of time that the stations are available for use. This helps provide folks a huge variety of time slots to be able to take advantage of this awesome public service. Easy Accessible Free Electric Car Charge. Used one of the two VOLTA chargers at Columbia Mall and it had a really close location to the mall entrance. Plugged my EV in and spent a little over an hour in the mall. When I returned, my EV was charged up and ready for the drive home. I really appreciate the convenience and the close up parking. I wish all companies providing chargers were as dedicated to top notch service as VOLTA!

Charging stations don’t even appear on their map. Volta made a charging station near my workplace cease functioning because it does not appear on their map. It worked just fine before Volta put their name on it. Now it makes you use this app before you can charge. That would be fine if the station actually appeared on the map, but it does not. Customer service has done nothing to fix this issue.

App never correct or updated. I’ll check if there are open chargers at the local shopping center near me, and the Volta app always says their open/available, even though they never are. Even when I pull up to the chargers and their occupied, the app still shows that their open. Volta needs to take better care of servicing their chargers, I’ve seen a couple of them with out of service signs near me for actual months, and it took about 4 months for those signs to even go up. Looking at 7 months of one being out of service. Love that Volta offers these for free, but it’d honestly rather have to pay for a better service.

Amazing!!. Was my initial charging experience and Volta made it wonderful! The phone app and registration was simplistic and in a few minutes I was fast charging my vehicle while sipping coffee from a nearby coffee shop. And the first 30 minutes was free! Remarkable! Highly recommended!

Sign-in isn’t saved. Each time I open the app, I need to sign-in each time and select which car I have. This makes it hard to find local charging stations and their current status. Please make this easier.

Inoperable Volta charging station. Please be informed that Volta charging station located in front of HB Bagels and Cafe on Beach Blvd. and Yorktown Ave, in Huntington Beach, CA does not work. It’s been inoperable for at least 2 weeks.

Wrong availability info. The app no longer display how many chargers are available for use at each location. It always shows ALL chargers are being used.

Coolest thing ever!. Not only do they offer free charging all around town, their app is easy to use and it’s great. My first charge ever was with Volta, it’s fast and easy to use.

Latest update dropped charge time status. Love Volta but hate the latest app update. The app used to show you how long someone was charging. Now it doesn’t. No way to keep the abusers in check who violate the 2hr maximum charge time. Please bring back the charge time status! People are camping way past 2 hours on the chargers now.

Convenience is king. What I like about Volta’s chargers is that they’re located in good places like grocery stores and shopping areas. And they work, which is nice.

People misuse Volta. Very often people misuse 2 hours limit time.

Doesn’t work. Nothing seems to work. The charging station doesn’t charge and the app won’t let you hit submit when you report an issue.

Didnt work. Total waste of time, no point in trying as it doesnt recognize the car and just times out after 30 seconds Poor app workflow

Great concept, ok execution. Pulling for Volta. I appreciate the free charging. Real time isn’t accurate in the app. Not available when it says it is. Seems to be tied to when a vehicle is fully charged instead of the stall being physically empty. Would be great if it was triggered by if it is plugged in or not.

Not clear what to push. When you are on the screen that shows the charger is available it is not clear where to press to pull up the window to start charging.

Trash app. Can’t use unless you login can’t register because the app is trash. This app forces you to sign up an account or use the single sign-on option and using any of the registration options completely fail making this app completely useless. Don’t bother downloading

It’s been great.. Used Volta in Stop and a shop and at Broadway Mall and it’s been great. Up to two free hours. Why not get upwards of 9-11 free miles per hour while we shop?!!

Refreshingly easy. So easy to connect and can’t beat the free half hour. Just enough time for a Bite to eat nearby.

Does this even work?. Chargers marked used when they aren’t, and open when they’re being used. Automatic log offs. No capability of alerting you when a station you’re watching is open... it’s like they made this app 3 years ago and gave up. From ChargePoint to EvGo to PlugShare, every other app works better than this one.

No charging stations on map. The app is just a plain ol’ map and doesn’t show any of the chargers. Search is useless (what do I search for - is it a general Google search, or something more specific?). Completely useless app. Read the other reviews. Don’t bother.

Inaccurate charge status. Installed the app while sitting at a charging station. App says that none are available but the second station is open.

Doesn’t work. I’m at the station. It won’t let me check in. Gives me an error that I need to turn on location permission, but this doesnt exist in IPhone setting. I’m presuming maybe they are not coMpatible with new IOS updates? Either way, I can’t charge.

Great service 👍🏽. Love the concept of free charging.. There should be a more control.. people leaver their car in Parkin stall for more than 2 Hours.. i know the power source cuts it self after them time allowed .. but cars aren’t moving.. 🤔 A $10/hr Parking fee could solve this problem.

Unusable. App is unusable if you don’t already have an account. Attempting to set up an account on iPhone fails due to unknown error when trying to accept terms and conditions.
