Background during news/ positive news needed. Change it!! The virus background is bad! It’s depressing now to see the same thing day in and day out now!! We need it to be different. Also can we get more positive news about good things happening during this extremely stressful time??? Good news will lift up depressed hearts and minds. Thank you!!!!

Problems--again! Update. Now the app tells me that it can't start, and to check my network connection. Network connection is just fine. Deleted and redownloaded the app. Still the same error message. Clicking on App Support just brings me to the dreaded 404 page not found error. Update:. After I posted this I waited until I saw that a new version was available and tried it. It worked for a few weeks, but when the next update came, I got the same error all over again. Including the ,404 error when I click pin App Support in the as possible store. That is it for me. WDTNs app works consistently.

Horrible experience.. Videos start against your will, no option to disable them, even if you try to mute or pause the advertisements they still play at full blast sound. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even open the app anymore because I know I can’t even read the story I’m interested in without being force fed a bunch of a obnoxious video advertisements.

A little long. This app takes a little longer to download but it’s not a bad app. I really enjoy the fact that it’s free and although the news is repetitive; if you’ve missed something which sometimes I do, you can definitely see it again-the same thing you missed earlier. I kinda see it as a bonus.

Why??. Stop sending out notifications for stories that can’t be found browsing the app. I’ll get a notification for a story that I’m actually interested in reading so I’ll tap it. The app may or may not crash. If so, it would be nice if I could find the story within the app by browsing. Maybe if a notifications tab were included within the app that listed notifications that we have received so we can recall them later.

Battery Drainer. Version 7.1.0 has changed to really drain battery power. Although I have set the app options to never use Location Services, never permit Siri searches, and not to run in the Background, if I've used the app then let the phone sit unused at all over the hour, battery power will drop 3 to 4 percent. Battery Health reports the usage is due entirely to this app running in the background - even though I have background running turned off for it. I have no idea if this is a mistake or they're running ads behind the scenes, but an app that does this isn't an app I'll keep using.

Why The Change?. The new format is disconcerting for this long time viewer. The current temperature not being displayed at the bottom of the screen is missed. Where is the traffic report every ten minutes, and what happened to the serious news reports? Dontae’s uplifting humor and the quizzes at 6:00 AM and PM? Answers, please. This viewer would like to know before switching to a different station. Thank You.

Inadequate and outdated. The WHIO app is awful. The news is old and no one seems to know how to proofread! The lack of coverage on sports has been nonexistent. There should be an easy and in your face way to access WHIO of news in real time and it is difficult to find. It seems to be easier to upload storm/weather photos than it is to report accidents etc.

Poorly designed, doesn’t function when it’s actually needed. My area has been through several big storms in the last couple months. And the only consistent thing about them is that the app will spam ads at you when trying to get the forecast during an emergency and oftentimes the app will crash in general. The fact that the sponsors for this app thought it would be a good idea to continue ads during an emergency and not provide fixes to app crashing updates is just sad. To those responsible for this app (if read) you need to address this. I know now that this app cannot provide time sensitive information when making decisions in a potentially deadly situation, but others may not.

Really Annoying. So, the only reason I got this app was to see if my school had a delay or was closed. I changed all the settings so only closings and delays were to be a notification, but I get most, if not all, of the notifications. I also have a problem with when I check the closings and delays it shows my school as a delay or closing, but I don’t get a text notification about it for about 2 hours later. For example, today my school is closed, I only knew this because my dad texted me, not because the app did. I got that text 2 hours later, so if my dad didn’t text me, I would be standing, waiting for the bus for a while. Please fix this.

What happened to the back button?. This most recent update was supposed to make it easier to navigate, but they removed the back button from the articles. Now, you either have to swipe through articles you are not interested in, or hit home, which takes you back to the beginning of the list. Bring back the back button in the article!

PORTRAIT VIEW ONLY. Recently it seems the a change was made in the app and I can only get in portrait view. I prefer using a landscape view. I do enjoy WHIO News and it’s excellent reporting & reporters. Hopefully you will be able to provide the app with a landscape view.

Cannot find answers. I understand why you would want to celebrate Sierra Burton as she died in the line of duty. But did everybody forget that Matthew Yates also died in the line of duty? But he is rarely mentioned, if at all. I would like to know why one person is being celebrated by the other person is being ignored.

How I get the local news!!. I don’t like watching the news around my boys anymore. I don’t want them worried about things they are too young to even think about so I watch it on my phone via the WHIO app. I really like it except in the mornings if you use the listen button you get the radio station instead of the news that is on tv. Other than that it’s great!

The newscasters are the stars of WHIO. Other local stations cannot compete with WHIO staff. They are so professional and it comes across the airwaves . Also love the weather personnel. Dontae is the best dressed weather man ever! Kirsten Zontinni is beautiful as is McCall. Even when the weather report is not great they make the weather torable.

Enjoy this app. I like being able to see the news or weather. It is nice to do it when I have a little time available.

Frustrating!. Two big issues. First, you cannot share an article with a friend or family member via any posting source. When I see something of importance, most sites allow for the sharing of the information. Second, several articles are grossly out of date. Some sports info can be a couple weeks old. I have complained about this a few times, apparently falls on deaf ears. Wish there was a “no star” option.

Crashes far too frequently. This app is pretty terrible to be honest(except in the seldom instances that it does want to work properly), if I wanna check the app for local news? Crash. If I just get a notification for a news story and wanna check it immediately? Crash. Ceased reading up on news for a quick second to multitask another app but plan to return? Crash. Crash. I’m crashing! I’m crashing! Good lord they really need to adjust the amount of bugs in this app. Due to these minor mishaps that can easily be fixed it causes the app as a whole to be virtually unusable. I’m better off just watching my local news on television than trying to make sense of this apps complete incompetence.

Why even have this app?. A lot of the most important information is routed OUT of the application forcing me to use safari to listen to WHIO Radio, telling me to listen for a specific element which has ALREADY BEEN DISCUSSED and have to scroll to find. I didn't click to listen to the radio! Half of what’s written into the application to summarize the reports contains misspelled words, poor grammar and the like. How hard is it to proofread before pressing submit? Above all, the app will give you an option to watch a video for some of the stories, but not before listening to an advertisement that you can’t mute or skip.

Trustworthy. It gives you the straight news without the liberal slide. Just tell the news not their personal opinion. The weather is good. I trust them more than any of the other local forecasts.

Where’s the Professionalism?. As I’ve written before, I grew up with WHIO….Don Wayne, Ed Krehling, Gil Whitney and his “Wooly-Worms”. It has always been my “go to” for news and information…..it has always been-as stated…”The Leader”. So what’s with the app? It’s never been explained. News topics that stay on the app for weeks, and absolutely NO PROOFREADING ever takes place. Spelling errors, along with poor grammar and punctuation are found in almost every story. I know it sounds picky, but I expect much more from this news outlet. I know you can do better!

It’s just okay. I think the app is just okay. It seems there are always frequent misspellings, shouldn’t spellcheck should correct this? I also noticed that the same news is posted for long periods with sometimes no new news or updates so I have to look at other news apps for updated news. Thanks for your consideration.

Too many adds!. See lots of advertisements on the 7 news for this app and thought I would give it a try. Waaay too many adds. Cannot click on anything without getting a 15 second video add. Already removed the app. Sad they have to monetize so heavily. Otherwise the app wouldn’t be too bad. Having adds in an app is a fine balance and this went too far.

Annoying Notifications and Videos Never Work. Whoever is the team is that gets to determine what news is worthy of notifications need to re-evaluate what news is. Also videos never load. They want to monetize the videos with their own ads but they never load, I haven’t been able to play a whole video from the app in over a year. It so poorly designed and filled with click bait ads that lead to fake news stories.

This app is garbage. It is pretty frustrating to get a notification of a news story, click on it, ant the only thing that happens is: The app just opens and shows a list of top stories ( none of which are the story of the notification that brought you there ). The app opens with the list of stories and you can hear an unrelated video ad playing followed by an unrelated video on a story that has nothing to do with the notification that brought you there. If you click around on the app trying to find the video that you hear, good luck. If you want to try to find the story that generated the notification that brought you to the app, it is nowhere to be found. The app is so awful that I caught myself laughing out loud a couple of times. Frankly I’m embarrassed for the folks over at WHIO. I’m just going to uninstall it and check back in a year or so. Hopefully they’ll have it right by then.

Very Informative. I have always watched WHIO-Channel 7, and I enjoy being able to see what is happening around the Miami Valley. I actually grew up watching the news when I was younger. Thank you for all these years for what you do.

It’s not enough to have videos for stories.. Shift workers come home at all hours, and can’t always listen while their families are asleep. Being able to read the articles is actually still a great way to consume the news on-line…

New update is still flawed. With the Jan 2020 update the developers forget to put the back button in. So when you read a story you have to hit the home button. Now you have redone the app and put in the back button but it is no different than hitting the home button. Still have to scroll all the way back down to where you left off. Waste of time. Put the old version back up

News and weather.. I love watching ch. 7 for all the news and weather. All the announcers are great but especially James Brown. He makes every story so interesting and he also always seems to be concerned. Great people.

Shows that are on. I’m very disappointed in this station showing Love Island several times a week in the place of regular programs. This show is shameful!!!!! Then you have Big Brother which also is shameful. I know I’m just a person telling you but I’m ashamed of what is shown on this channel. I was a big fan but now I’m feeling very down. Problems. It starts over to many times. And doesn’t remove the old articles fast enough. The web site is just as bad as the app. Very confusing to us. Some of the other Dayton news apps are better. Thought you were number one in news. I sure don’t think so. You have been getting worse over the years. I am 60 and used to love channel 7. Not anymore.

App won’t work. Since the last update the app won’t load. I’ve uninstalled & reinstalled it several times over the past week and nothing works.

Same stories all the time. The app has the same stories all the time. They might update a few of the but very seldom. I went to check to see who won last nights game and there was nothing about it on the app not even that there was a Bengals game. Although it did have a story about a local high school game that was canceled over a month ago. Along with an old Story about college football. Need to keep the stories updated.

App opens a new screen when trying to look at it. The app has now been opening a screen like it is going to show a video. I then have to try and close it as it is just black. Then when I finally see it back in the app and I start to scroll it does it again. I would like to Be able to look and read articles since that is the point of having the app. Please fix this issue

Malfunctions at times. Today, for instance, it would not let me swipe up to read the rest of the story below. The one I see most of the time and fairly often is that it’ll be either a broken link, which is rare or most likely the wrong link to the story, that is it links, but to a different story. Most of the time it works correctly.

Most complete and accurate news around. There is no comparison between channel 7 and the other local channels. We were unable to get channel seven for a while and we really missed it!!!

Very dated content. It’s February and one story is headlined “Springboro schools to go remote for 48 hours after Thanksgiving”! Stories in the school and sports section remain in the headlines for months while there is no mention of current events. The national/world news headlines often contain no mention of the top stories in the nation. Top headlines elsewhere: Trump impeachment trial begins today, Super Bowl, Myanmar, etc. Top headlines on WHIO : Sex offender caught in Louisiana, hacker stopped in Florida, member of Supremes has passed( that story is duplicated in the entertainment section). WHIO news is my Go-to on the television, but the app is a disappointment.

Needs improvement. It crashes which is irritating but it also just randomly stops sending push notifications which can be a safety issue if you are counting on this app for important news. For example. Tonight we suddenly have a water boil advisory and the app didn’t send the push notification for that breaking news to my phone. Very irresponsible on their part.

Landscape view?. You update one thing and break another. The latest app update somehow got rid of landscape view option when watching a news story or even a live news conferences that are held. For instance, our governor held a news conference about the train derailment in East Palestine and I attempted to watch on the Whio app however since I wasn’t able to get landscape mode to work I went to WDTN and watched. Until this is fixed I’ll watch my news elsewhere.

Terrible app. They discontinued text alerts for school closings & forced the app. Not clear where these are in the app & no search function to find it. Set up weather only notifications & getting every alert north of 70. Lists 5 default locations and can’t remove them, only add to. The 7 weather app is the same. Deleting this garbage. Will figure out another way to get my kids school info.

WHIO App.. You are very poor at updating. Sports and other reports are 3 weeks old and you constantly miss current happenings. Weather never gets updated on weekends. Extremely poor. Leave reports up for months become outdated. Sad

Back button. With the recent update, the back arrow disappeared. This arrow allowed a quick return to the main stories at the place you left off, after you were done reading the details. Now the only way to get back to the stories is by using the home option. This takes me back to the beginning each time and I have to scroll back to where I was each time. Other then this, I real like the app.

Great News. Up To Date News. Our News Helps to Save lives in case Of The Weather and Also Gives Us News To Know What Going On around Us. Thank You Channel 7.

Fixes just change what is broken!. The programmers did a fix sometime back that required a somewhat long press to open a category. Too long, and the press did not work. Too short, and the press did not work. It took some time, but it was possible to learn how long to press. OK, so they fixed that one, but you could not go back to the story list. The back feature took you back to the category list, and you had to scroll through the stories to find where you were to select the next story you wanted to read. OK, this fix restores the capability to go back to the story list, which is now blank, until you attempt to scroll that list, at which time, you are taken back to the top of the list, once again having to scroll through the stories to find where you were. This fix is no fix. Through the myriad of these errors (and others) I have not commented. However, this parade of bugs tells me that the authors are not bothering to test their software before foisting it on us. (Note: This comment is from someone who used to write software for a living.)

Horrible app. 1st - many videos do not load and a majority of the videos are of first responder vehicles sitting at a scene. If you don’t have anything to show just write about it no need to put a useless video up. 2- Dayton Has more to offer than just crime and tragedy which is the majority of the coverage. 3- same news stories run for days with no updates. 4- sports coverage is awful. 5-Editors should be embarrassed with spelling and grammer.

Horrible. This app needs improvement. First when I click a notification to an article the app doesn’t take me to it. And it’s hard to find. Secondly when the app opens a video starts to play with sound and then three seconds later the same sound from the same video plays. It’s like listening to Row your Boat” with two people. So annoying!! Just deleted this app.

Local Weather & News Excellence!. Hands down the best weather and news team in the region. The weather alerts during thunderstorms are a lifesaver! Always something new every time I open the app! Love WHIO!!

No longer works. Quit working about month and a half ago. Uninstalled, rebooted, redownloaded and reinstalled. Still produces the same error. This has worked for years before. Developer has poor testing before implementing new version. Should never be self tested.

News stories. I wish the app and the news contained more positive. I have two friends that no longer watch the news because of so many bad stories, and I find myself now skipping bad stories. The world needs more positive news. Please dig deep for some positive stories.

App keeps crashing and freezing. This was my go to app to read my local news. For the last several weeks I am rarely able to just open the app and select a story. Either the app crashes and closes down or it simply won’t open the story. This is so disappointing. Please fix whatever issues are causing this.

Installed, links never work. I downloaded the app and I am never able to click on any news links.

The ‘ol “bait and switch”. Never, not one time ever... have I touched to open a news alert to view the story IN that alert and accuser that story. All I get is a commercial for other stories I can’t care less about. I had to turn my alerts off for this ap. BERY counterintuitive.

App. I’m not get updates when things happen everyone get the new update and it started to make me go to another news channel

Too negative info always. Very negative news gets to be downer! Shootings, riots, virus info, I don’t like that it bullies me every time I turn on my phone!!

Not a fan. I prefer to read the news online but recently I have to go thru ads and newscast. Also some posts remain for weeks while others at removed quivkly

Remove old stories. It appears the effort isn’t there to keep the app up to date. If a story sits for more than a couple days it should be removed. Some stories sit for months. If you don’t have a story reduce the info shown on the app.

News. I grew up watching WHIO, and now at the at of 50, a grandmother myself I continue to watch WHIO for accurate and reliable news and weather

Titles. Can’t read the titles for the drop down menu to go to different parts of the news

None. Clicked on notification and Whio came up but didn’t even see that story. Happens often. Also so many commercials on tv do you really have to have them on line? Really!!!!

Landscape Mode. Something changed in this version because I cannot get the app to go into landscape mode on my IPad. The previous version automatically changed depending on how I had my IPad oriented. Do you have a fix for this? I have pretty much stopped using this app because of this. Works okay on my phone.

PJ Kidwell. Even though I no longer live in Ohio I enjoy my WHIO app! It’s a great way to keep up-to-date with the latest news and weather. I now live in Charlotte and still have a piece of Dayton with former WHIO anchor John Paul on WSOC!

Extremely poor. Website does not load pages. Pages disappear while scrolling down to read, and you have to go back to the top of the page to make it load again, and it disappears again while attempting to read. OVER. AND OVER. AND OVER. It’s worthless.

Updated app is annoying. The live audio up top while trying to read a story is annoying and irritating. The user has no choice it just bombards your experience. I’ve been switching to Dayton daily news.

What’s Up. When you scroll down and read a news story and return to the main line, it always goes to the top and not where you left off. Then you have to scroll back down to where you left off.

Updates. No updates on any sports scores. Really some articles are on the web site along time with no updates.

Auto plays volume in ads upon opening app to main page. Very annoying and disturbing that volume auto plays even if my phone is on silent. Newest updates to this will keep me from using it.

Ads. Every time I want to check out the news and weather I have to watch Ads before I get to what I’m wanting to see. Sometimes I have to watch the Ads twice and I give up.

Huh?. I spend more time watching the waiting screen than the live news and I’m quite mobile in the mornings so it’s nice to have something other than the jungle for 6/10 minutes a segment

Not happy with change. Your site is much too confusing. Since you added the addition of ads and visual information, I find your outlet much too busy. Don’t like it. Don’t look at it. Switched to Channel 2 website

Online. It’s never up to date. 11 PM news Dayton Ohio doesn’t come on. No option to even pay for the current app. Saturday is at least enjoyable

App is outdated. Like 2008 era bad. For being the middle of 2019 ( when this review is being written) this app is severely outdated in its designs and functionality. I have several iOS devices I’ve tested this on and surprisingly the iPhone 5s is the only one that seams to actually work on. My 2018 iPad Pro, my 10x max and my iPhone 7+ all crash or is buggy and sluggish Cox media group hire a app developer that’s worth their salt

WHIO app. Mine won’t stay on. You touch the app. The Whio screen comes on for a second and then goes to an all black screen

Full of bugs and glitches. There are tons of adds for ridiculous things. App will open by itself and stream news audio without my permission. Spams my phone with notifications the list goes on.

You broke it. This was my go to news app but it constantly reloads page when you are reading. Please fix have sent a bug report on the app and email to news room. You broke it 6 days ago please fix it

Fix your app. Just like the previous people, you click on the pop up, and it takes you to a bunch of stories not even related to the top story that just came in. What’s up with that??? All the previous people said this a year ago and more, yet it’s not fixed???

WHIO News App. Same News Stories, especially in Sports & Entertainment Sections - Over & Over many times for days... Lousy format now - upon finishing reading a story - Goes back to First News Item instead of going back to where you were in app - Now have to scroll through ALL the News articles over & over

WHIO. I love this tv and radio. My favorites are Cheryl McHenry, and Dontae Williams. The whole team is awesome!! I’ve been watching since 1976. I lived in Tennessee for 19 years, then I came back to Dayton. I look forward to all news segments.

Need to update. I get tired of reading old news over and over. Why must there be multiple news reports in different categories? I’m sure there is news happening more often than you update.

Need landscape view on iPad. I would use this app so much more often if landscape view was an option!

Was good at first. Was a good app now it’s a junk app don’t play the live news like it use to all it displays is ads then it gets stuck on one of the advertisements screens you’ll need it fix youll app it would be nice to add some improvements!

Find another local news app. I had this app for years with absolutely no problems until a few months ago and I reported to technical support but with NO prevail and its sad because I enjoyed the app but not all I get is pop up adds when I open the news story unable to read the story. I see enough adds so GOODBYE WHIO ON THE ROAD.

Repeated news! Awful proofreading. The articles are repeated through each category, which is frustrating! I have repeatedly emailed them about the lack of proofreading due to the poor use of grammar. Anything written should be able to be read fluidly, but when the wrong use of a word is thrown into a poorly written sentence with misspelled words and poor punctuation, it’s a recipe for a headache!

WHIO-TV. Get the new before we see it on tv and the weather any time! Thanks for allowing us to read it here!

Used to be my go to app. This used to one of my most used Apps. Now when I click on a story it doesn’t open. I tried to report the issue and it says I need to set up an email. I’m not sure what changed with this app, but I hope it can be fixed.

Terrible app!!. One reason to open a news app is to see the latest news. This FAILS at that! Most of what you see is OLD stories that weee written weeks and months ago that are completely irrelevant at the present time. Whoever is charge of this app should be FIRED

WHIO IS THE BEST. I have been watching WHIO my entire life! Everyone is professional yet down to earth. Cheryl, James and McCall are my favorites but I do like all of your reporters!

Does not appear to work with iPhone 13. Most the links do not respond at all. Older iPhone running same ios15 works fine.

Continues to Load Slowly In IOS. This has become a problem with the last couple of iOS updates. The app refreshes at a snails pace. Some reports won’t open at all. App is updated ongoing but it doesn’t help.

Terrible. The site is not updated. The same headline and story remains for months. They do not address or report sports at any level.

Best News Outlet In Southwest Ohio. Always impartial, inquisitive and informative never any exaggeration, embellishments, bold reaches, lies or fake news solely for the sake of ratings. Not only the best news source in Dayton but far superior to those in Cincinnati as well.

The only station. I have lived here for 38 years and have not watch a different news station. But I have a question. What happen with Jessy ?

Old news. They leave stories on home page up for weeks. Need to be updated more often.
