RaceJoy App Description & Overview

What is racejoy app? RaceJoy is created specifically for running, cycling and triathlon events with a focus on the participant and spectator experience. Features vary by event and include live phone tracking, progress alerts, results, race information, photos, Send-a-Cheer and much more!

There are two distinct experiences in RaceJoy:
-Featured Events
-Training Days

Featured Events (shown with the Event Logo):
These are events that have contracted with RaceJoy to provide a premium experience for participants and spectators. Features are free and provided by the event or sponsor(s).

Features included:
-Live GPS, phone tracking on the course map.
-Send-a-Cheer! (fun motivational audio clips).
-NearMe alerts (spectators and waiting relay teams get an alert when a participant is drawing near).
-MeetUp tool for seeing where you are in relation to a participant.
-Automatic Progress Postings to Twitter (with your approval, of course!).

The following features may be provided by the event:
-Scored Race Results within moments of crossing the finish line.
-Essential race information like schedules, FAQs, race news, and more.
-Your official race photos.
-Optional Tracking with Progress Alerts: Some events offer BIBTAG tracking in addition to PhoneTrak. For these events there is no need to carry your phone as this is based on the participant’s BIB/chip as they cross over timing points on the course.

Training Days
This area enables athletes to have their friends and family track their progress live on a map and send motivational cheers during long training runs or rides. All PhoneTrak features are available in Training Days, along with special motivational cheers to help you through those tough moments. Training Days is a free always available area for your long training days. Based on our privacy policy you must setup a special tracking ID (PIN) with profile name and provide that to friends and family tracking you on your Training Days.

Add a Race?
If you would like a race to offer the full featured experience with official race progress alerts and results, please let the race director know about RaceJoy.

Battery Usage
RaceJoy’s live phone tracking feature is ONLY activated during the hours of the event. When using Training Days, the athlete turns on/off tracking as needed. Use of this GPS technology running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. You may disable this under settings at anytime during the event to conserve battery life if needed.

Superb app!!! LOVED!. I used this app during my first marathon and thank goodness I did! My family was able to track my position the entire time. I also got a ton of “cheers” which was super motivating! It was very simple to use and the tracking was right on. Whoever created this must be an athlete (and genius). Look forward to using it again and again. Thanks, RaceJoy

Good. I just ran my first 15k last weekend. I liked how it did keep up the distance and all. It was pretty close. The only problem I noticed with notifications is that there was a delay. I had my phone in my zipper belt and had Bluetooth ear buds and it would show up on my Apple Watch. But the cheer didn’t come through earbuds right away. So I had to pull phone out and look for the cheers. I had Lot more cheers then I actually heard through sound Of that can be fixed I would love to use it again with my Route66 marathon coming up Nov 18th.

Don’t even bother. If I could rate the app lower than 1 Star, I would. Simply put, the app did not work at all. It failed to connect for over 10 minutes. Then, (once it had finally connected) started throwing error codes at me 20 yards before I crossed the start line. Not really the time or place to try trouble shooting an app that takes forever to load. I also think the developers have never run a race before, or at least not one as big as the Bellin 10k. Their servers obviously couldn’t handle the 15,000 runners and their families trying to log into the app.

So great!. This app is awesome. It was so convenient to help find people during the race and have spectators find us so they could be there in time to see us cross the finish line. Also really fun to hear the cheers from people while you’re running. Those things took my mind off the fact that I was running a ridiculous distance in the cold rain.

Kind of useful, but complicated and burns battery. I downloaded this for a marathon relay that I did. For the two weeks I had it on my phone, I thought I needed to get a battery replacement, even though I wasn’t leaving tracking turned on (but it’s hard to tell.) It’s also difficult to know how to navigate to the screen you are looking for. Setting up our relay team required following directions sent from the race promoter AND multiple rounds of trial and error. That said, tracking my teammates on the course worked when the teammate didn’t get confused trying to start the race leg in the app.

Newport Half Marathon. I’ve used this app a few times before and have always had a great experience with it. Love that friends can send me messages and cheers. Also like that when a friend using it is near me I get notified too. Being able to track runners on the course is very helpful during the race. Wish all my races used RaceJoy!

Best Race Tracking Experience. I have tried many different ways to help my friends and family find me during the different races I’ve done and this app out performed every other method. It was really helpful to have a live map with the mile markers mapped on and actuate tracking. It got the people I needed to the places I needed them during a very challenging run!

Great tracker!. This was a great app for tracking. I loved getting my split times and estimated finish as I was running. Hubby was able to send cheers along the way and had an easy time finding me on the course. I was worried about battery usage. Ran half in 1:47. Played music and had tracking going the entire time. Still had 90% battery when I finished. Easy to set up as a runner and easy for my spectators to use.

Great app!. Thought this app was great. I especially loved the mile updates and predicted finish time based on pace. Helped me kick it into high gear and beat the predicted finish time in the last two miles. My family cheered me on from home and their cheers were a great inspiration to keep going. The only downfall was that during the race I kept getting notices saying I wasn’t being tracked (but was), and not all the cheers came through audio (but I could see them in the app).

Terrible - audible ads mid race!. The app itself is pretty good. It could be more intuitive but all in all it’s great for family and friends to track you during a race. The problem is the audible updates also gives you ads during the race!! Seriously RaceJoy?! What MBA thought that would be a good idea? Sure, you are ad supported and banners etc are what pay the bills. But this just makes an otherwise good app completely unusable. I would never use this app again.

Worked great. I used Racejoy last weekend at the Maine Marathon. It was easy to use, worked great and kept me and my family up to date the whole way. It was easy to share and my family was able to see my progress and managed to meet up and support me several places along the route.

Useless. Pure garbage. So fed up with this app and “service”. I’d give it 0 stars if I could. It was pretty buggy when I got “RaceJoy Certified” 2 years ago during COVID lock down. I was sure it had to be better now. I go and try to demo it to a prospective client using the built in “Training Day” feature, setup my phone to be tracked, then had them try to track me. They find me in the app, click Next, and the app crashes. Every. Single. Time. So embarrassing and a waste of time for everyone involved. No idea why RunSignup endorses this app. It’s unbecoming for them to promote such trash.

Great app for spectators. This app is great for spectators. It allows you to track the progress of participants you are following. It provides splits, current pace, overall pace, and estimated time of completion. It also maps the location of the runner on the course. Furthermore, the app is easy to use.

Awesome App!. I used RaceJoy for the HAP 10 Mile Crim Race in Flint, MI and it was fantastic! First time I’ve ever used it and it was so simple to set up. Three people were tracking me during the race and sending cheers. Those cheers were such a great pick me and put a smile on my face! Loved hearing the mike marker times and expected finish time as well. As others have said, I wish more races utilized RaceJoy!

Fun way to engage with your family/friends. Tried this for the first time on a half marathon yesterday and it was fun getting all the “cheers” and personal notes. I had turned off progress alerts because I also was using MapMyRun simultaneously. Wish there was a way for them to send personalized audio clips rather than “text to cheer” which sounded very robotic and hard to understand. Either way it made my race a lot more fun. Highly recommend!!

Get this app!. I LOVE this app. Aside from the fact that anyone meeting is you at the finish line can track you , my favorite part is that it keeps me on pace. I wear wireless head phones and at every mile of the race it tells you what your pace is, what your time for that mile was and the time for the miles combined and your expected finish time. It would be so great if every race used race joy!

The Buck Fifty 2018. My first big run and the awesome organizers choose this app to help us navigate!!! Awesome!! It was very dark and lonely running my second leg of a 150 road relay race. However, and surprisingly this app stayed with us. The alerts were sometimes behind and it never really gave us individual splits, but you didn’t get lost. Thanks for the help navigating our run throughout all of Ross County Ohio.

Loved this app!!!!. This was seriously such an amazing app!!! I ran my first half marathon today, and no one in my family was able to make it to the race, but with the app, they got to cheer me on anyway! And most of them made me laugh out loud! Other runners were looking at me like I was crazy. I loved the mile updates, too. They kept me on track and motivated. It turned what could have been a long hard race into something that I was able to have fun with and enjoy. Thanks RaceJoy!

Leave your phone screen ON during your run while app is open. Make sure you leave your phone screen ON the entire time while running. Maybe I missed this instruction? But I don’t recall the app telling me to keep my phone screen on while using the app. Because of this my stats weren’t accurate. Even though I turned on my tracking location, every time I’d lock my phone screen it would disconnect. Ended up relying on my Apple Watch and saw that the app was half a mile behind and my running times were way off. Disappointing because I had family relying on app and it didn’t even say I finished since I ended it when my Apple Watch said 13.1 miles for my half marathon.

Doesn’t honor your settings. The most irritating thing about this app is that it absolutely did not honor my “no notifications” setting - when I’m racing I don’t want constant mile alerts and split times disrupting my music and flow and yet this app does just that. Additionally, it obnoxiously played music OVER the audio I was listening to during my last 400 meters to finishing a half marathon. Lastly, it incorrectly clocked my finishing time and even tried to warn me I was possibly “off-course” during the race. I deleted this as soon as I was able to, never again.

Wineglass Marathon User. The friends and family tracking me seemed to really enjoy it and said it was user friendly. Unfortunately I couldn’t hear the cheers while running, but almost better when after the race I could listen to them all in celebration. Alerts did come to my Apple Watch.

Great App! I wish Every Race Had it!. I just used this during the Boilermaker 15k. It was very nice to have the mile updates that were accurate and it’s nice to be able to check out after completing a race. I have to admit I only set it up while waiting for the race to start, so I didn’t play with it and familiarize myself enough to really use it to its full potential. Even still, it was great to have. I wish every race I participate in would have this. I will take the time to become more familiar with it now. I will have a look through it and if it lists future races that use it I will be trying to exclusively run in races that do use race joy.

Great for a virtual race!. I ran my first virtual race, due to the social distancing fad, and decided to try the Run Anywhere feature from RaceJoy that was being offered. I didn’t have the other runners to keep me running, but having RaceJoy shouting out mile markers, pace, and splits helped to keep me motivated. Plus the cheers it played along the way was a nice alternative, since there were no actual spectators yelling and holding signs. I think that the soothing robotic voices in the app will also help me to become accustomed to the inevitable robot uprising that will likely happen in the autumn of 2020, making for a less traumatic transition into that new norm.

Disappointing. It’s a good thing I was only tracking one person and didn’t need gps tracking to keep tabs on her. This app rarely stayed connected to the internet, would send me notifications long after the event being noted, and didn’t successfully send “cheers” to my runner. It seemed like a good idea - I loved the nerdy options for cheers (Galaxy Quest, Star Trek, and Star Wars references, especially - although the Worf/nice legs quote is kind of messed up). But the last straw was it’s heads up that my runner was near, which came almost half a mile (5 minutes) after she had passed us!

Fabulous app for athletes & spectators!. I’ve used this app for a number of races, including three ironman-distance triathlons. It gave peace of mind to me and my support crew, because I knew they could find me on the course, and they could tell I was progressing steadily. It was great to get their “cheers” and also to use meet-up to find them after the races. I really felt like it was a God-send!

Nope. It’s a creepy app that’s inaccurate.. Ran the same race next to my significant other. Started the app at the exact same time. both have latest iphones. I physically beat her by about 6 seconds, but the app gave her a finish time 50 seconds sooner, so it doesn’t function as a race timer. and it was only a 5k, so that’s a huge margin of error. Also, they feed you ads while you race. We just watched a Netflix documentary about ads on social media, and this one is extra creepy. Think about it. While you’re endorphins are high, and you are in state of thinking you deserve a reward if you finish strong, the app is yelling at you to buy stuff. Gross. Instantly deleted after race.

When it was good, it was great, but…. I would get “data error, check your settings “ messages periodically. When that happened, the most recent 3-4 progress reports on the racer I was following would disappear. When the app came back on, ALL the deleted/missed updates would come back. This was most frustrating at the last mile and finish line for a marathon. When it worked, the updates were useful.

Meh.. Great idea, I loved getting cheers from family who couldn’t be there. I liked the breakdown of the race and mike queues. But. The app crashed multiple times during the course. The app wouldn’t always stay active in the background. I missed about half my cheers, which, admittedly, was attributed to some user error. I would add the ability for the app to give me a summary after the race w/ my my pace per mile (the split). I didn’t find the app very user friendly in general.

good if not using anything else. This app was promoted on a recent 5K. The way it was presented, it appeared that it might be necessary. this app was promoted on a recent 5K. it blocked my Garman watch and to make matters worse. Provided me with three different sets of data. All of which were slightly different. if you rely on some other third party app for your data, stay away from those. I can see where it would be beneficial for someone who doesn't use any other app. for the rest of us, stick with your preferred platform for accurate and consistent data and statistics

My fans loved it! Harder for me to use it on Apple Watch. Just ran my first 26.2, Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. Had just loaded the app on iPhone 7, which I carried in a waist mounted zippered pouch. Also had my Apple Watch series 2. My perspective: once I pushed the “start race” button, I stowed my phone. Muted all the audible updates. Notifications of each mile status was impossible to read. A lot of data for the small watch display, I had my prescription sunglasses with no bi-focals and I was running so I couldn’t keep the watch still enough to read. It also did not do split times, just overall average pace, I think, because I couldn’t read the display. I did notice some cheers come thru also. Again, couldn’t read much more than who they were from. Not sure if they were generic or custom, because I don’t know how or if I can go back and read cheers. Happy at the end that it tracked my overall finish time. Overall, app was not difficult to figure out and very importantly, did not crash. My fans’ perspective: they loved being able to see where I was, so they could get ahead to the next cheering location on the route. That made it worth loading a new app the day before a big run, and my first marathon! Overall, I would recommend app as is for sending your live location to spectators. Work on the notifications display for watch. Since I didn’t use it as my in-run tool, I can’t speak to its features for pace tracking.

Great App!. I used this app for the Pittsburgh Marathon. It was my first time using it and I loved it! I appreciated the real-time updates for myself and the family and friends that were cheering me on. I didn’t even use the other apps I typically train with. I felt I got everything I needed right within Racejoy. My friends and family did mention that the app seemed to be less accurate as I approached the finish line from a GPS perspective. That’s my only “improvement opportunity”. Thanks! I hope more races start using the app!

Not helpful for the runner!!!. While my spectators enjoyed it, the app was NOt good for me while running a hard marathon . Too many words on my watch screen to read while racing- I would much rather just see my mile splits from my GPS. And two screens to scroll through at each mile while racing? No way! It was a hindrance and irritation during my marathon. Also, Why not just activate From my chip? Who wants to be fumbling with their phone as They cross the start line?? Not me! And you really can’t figure out how it works before you race - I would have deactivated all texts to me if I had known

Awful:(. For an activity tracker, I has too many link buttons and too many graphics that make it difficult to navigate and easy to press the wrong button. It seems that it was not designed or reviewed by a runner. I logged in and took me several seconds to find the start button. It was too small to press before the race and ridiculously small to find to stop the race tracker while running. Once I finished, it was not intuitive at all to submit my time for my virtual race which btw, after I logged in, keep asking me to sign up or donate with very, very annoying pop-up banner. In addition to all that, it never traced my progress in the map. It tracked my 5k, however, the dot marking my location never moved, and it shows like I did the 5k jogging in place! Several days after the race and after I saw my name in the participants’ list with bib, positions and times, a pop-up showed indicating that the auto submission did not work. Ultimately, I don’t know if my race organizers have my numbers. What a headache:( Sorry, not very user friendly:( I am not using it again. It’s awful and needs a lot of improvements.

.. Horrible! Got this for the Pittsburgh marathon, and as soon as the race started the whole app flat-lined. Not only were there no GPS updates (which I paid $3 for to put on 3 phones), but the app wouldn't function at all. I had perfect 4g service and was able to use other apps, so it wasn't my phone. If they are going to promote this for use in a race of this scale, then they should but some reasonable servers behind the thing. One star is too generous. What an embarrassment, I want my money back. Update: gave this another try for the '18 Toledo marathon. Still useless. I got all the split notifications after the race was already over. You'd think they would've improved this in 3 years. Luckily it's free now.

Unnecessary obstacles to use. Not built by people that race???. There are a lot of obstacles to tracking people on this App. Once singed in, race found, person tracked, if you leave the app, not sign out but just leave, you have to go through 4-5 clicks to get back to them. It also misses the mark hugely. Recently used this App for the VCM and tracked my friend. They gave me her every mile, and predicted finish. But and it is a big BUT the laid it out horizontally so that you had to slide the splits. You can’t really see changes in splits. You can’t change the splits to 5Ks which is better to interpret for a marathon. The worst part is, she finishes and it’s first time it gives you is, time of day that she finished. You have to go into a details screen to find the elapsed time. I’m not sure why any race director would use this app and why the developers are so bad at what they do. 2 stars because at least it worked.

RaceJoy is great!. I used RaceJoy for the first time last Sunday at the Catholic Health Services Suffolk County Marathon and it was great! It notified me and my followers at every mile marker and gave average pace and estimated completion time. The best thing is the cheers feature. I was able to receive encouraging and funny messages from my followers during the race. They really cheered me up during the tough parts of the race! I recommend the use of RaceJoy at all distance races.

Grand lake marathon, Review. This is my first use of RaceJoy app, it only reported my position on the course one time to my wife and reported my Finish to her about an hour after race was finished, I believe we had it all set right but not for sure.. also normally my phone uses about 25% of my battery during a two hour run, during this event it used 85% battery, I believe if I had of run the full marathon instead of the half it would not have lasted to the end of the race... not sure I will use again but I believe in second chances...

Great App for running. This was a great App to use for the running and tracking of the 10 person team I was on for the 150 mile relay run. I only wish I could access it on a computer website so I could see progress with out using up The battery on my iPhone, and so family and friends could more easily track progress during the run.

Game changer. I just used this app at Burning River 100. My crew found it indispensable throughout the event to see real time progress and know exactly where I was. The updates every mile kept me on goal and helped me deliver against my plan as it did the thinking for me on pace and estimated times. The cheers changed the game for me and really helped me through some tough moments. Friends and family watching from afar were ale to send me encouraging words to lift my spirits, jokes to make me laugh and funny riddles to get my mind off the pain! I hope every event I ever do again uses this app! Thank you immensely!

Great way to keep supporters updated. I used RaceJoy at the Wineglass Marathon. It was ideal for keeping my husband updated on my progress so he could get to the finish in time, and I found out later that several other running friends were tracking me. So they knew my results as soon as I did! The cheers I received were a lot of fun, too, although I didn’t see most of them until afterward because I had turned off the audio splits (I didn’t want to stress too much over my pace). I was listening to music on iTunes, through Bluetooth headphones. It would be great if cheers could still get through the audio, even if splits are turned off.

Needs extremely good cell service to work. This app tries hard, bless its heart, but falls short in so many areas. First off the UI is about 5-10 years behind and confusing at best. Once you register yourself for a race you shouldn’t be put back in the registration flow just to get back to your race info. Also, I had plenty of cell service for my other tracking apps to work, but this one just spun and never sent the cheers through till the end of the race. Using iMessage was much easier and effective than using this app. Love the concept, just wish it would work.

Loved it!. I used RaceJoy during the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon and LOVED it. It made keeping myself on pace easy and helped me have a great race. Not to mention my favorite feature, the cheers! Friends and family who couldn’t make it to the marathon could send their support through the app and their messages played automatically through my headphones. It was awesome!

Does not work if you race through areas without cellular. Portland to Coast told all participants to use this app for timing the relay. However, the app did not work for any of us when we lost cell coverage—which was over a third of the course. It would not even open so that we could record our start times for each person on the relay. Then when we went back into cell range, it would not allow us to enter the later time. Completely useless. And another problem is that another team with a similar name kept trying to use our team and enter data. Kind of worthless app

Cool but some malfunctions for me. I used it during the marathon I ran yesterday. It was really cool to get split times and estimated finish times, and to allow my friends to track it as well. Unfortunately the splits sometimes did not match up with the mile markers on the course, and the estimated finish times would jump around a ton because of this. Not sure if it’s the apps fault, my iPhone X, or the marathon bib I had, but just wanted to put that out there. Other than that it’s a really cool app and experience!

Could be better. Love the tracking, love that anyone can follow and send audible cheers throughout the run, however don’t love that the person has to have the app to be tracked. May as well just sign up for basic race texts or use find my friends and skip the app. Not everyone carries their iPhone or has space for an additional app. I’m sure that if the app is sanctioned by the race, it can track the bib chip not the phone. The worst thing about the app is that you actually have to physically hit start when you begin running. A previous relay I was on, we all didn’t realize this until it was too late, so the app was basically useless. I don’t get why the gps that has to be constantly running, draining your battery, can’t just track your whereabouts on its own. In a world where we track our mileage on watches, and listen to music...do I really need ANOTHER thing to start when I begin my race?? No...better off using find my friends app or something you already have. The negatives outweigh the positives for me.

Awesome App!!. I just did the Philadelphia Marathon today and this app was amazing! Easy download, user-friendly, did what it says it would do. My family and friends who were not able to attend (from all across the United States) were able to track me and the feature to send audible “cheers” hit the nail on the head! The pre-recoded one were great, funny, just perfect! Tracking was pretty accurate too! This was the first time I heard of this app and wish that it had been available for my other races because it was a blessing.

Great app for marathon!. I ran the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon and downloaded the app for personal and family tracking. For me - it was great! Split times, end time prediction, mile-by-mile updates. For them - end of run prediction and current location worked perfectly! Hopefully this app is picked up by other marathons. Way better than the Chicago marathon tracking app I used 2 years ago.

1/2 marathon good experience. I enjoyed the app not only for the accurate updates as I listened to music, but most of all for my family being able to cheer me on and send custom messages as I ran. Each time a different one would come in for my kids I would choke up. I ran this half marathon three states away from our home and it was nice to know they were still there virtually supporting me.

Pretty good. I did the virtual Hemingway paddle board and 5k through this app. It was a little tough to navigate but I loved that throughout the race the app would give you progress updates on mileage and time, especially out on the water. The 5k portion didn’t see to give you the option to track your own route and it acted like you were downtown key west doing it, with progress updates. overall, nice app but hopefully next year we’ll be able to do this event in person again.

Would be cool if everyone got it working. As two tech professionals, you’d think we could get this installed and working. And as the spectator, it seemed to be working up until mile 7 of my husbands half marathon. But then nothing and we both got connection errors. I sent several cheers that indicated they were sent, but he didn’t see them and couldn’t hear them. The idea is great, but the complexity of setup etc is a failure point. I’d recommend a trial run before an event if you are depending on this as a logistics tool.

Excellent race tracker. I've tried a hodgepodge of apps and web sites in the past to track runners during a race. The best I could ever manage was plus or minus of an hour from aid station to aid station on ultra-marathons RaceJoy was brilliant. The notifications I got were prompt and correct. The feature that showed me where my runner was on the course was great! I had it down to a 10 minute window for arriving at aid stations, and I honestly could have had it down to the minute if I wanted. The battery drain on my runner's phone was quite acceptable and best of all configurable! Well done! I hope more races adopt this app.

Course À vos masques parté. Premier 5 kilomètres depuis 2 ans

Stay in touch during your next marathon. From the runner’s perspective there’s not much to see here, which in a way is great, it’s not intrusive or messing with your big day (I was expecting it to murder my phone battery but it really didn’t take too many resources). Where it really shines is for your support team. They will know exactly where you are along the course and when to expect you at the finish as well as helping them find you when it’s all over. All in all a great addition to any event that a phone can survive.

Really helpful. I’ve used watches and pacers over the years but this app was really great. I was able to stay on pace and the cheers from my friends really helped. Also my wife who was a supporter was able to track my progress and send us a daba doos!!

Needs an Apple Watch capability. Why would I carry my phone when I have an Apple Watch and Ear Pods. If your going to be in the Apple Ecosystem you have to keep up with the technology. I was excited to have my wife track me and now she can’t even though the race if providing this free of charge. Maybe that’s why???? Thanks for the reply. I think Apple Watch users understand the requirements.

Does its Job. Its deff got a-lot of bugs and room for improvement BUT it does its job which is track and update the times . I wasn't able to hear or see any of my Cheers and it was glitching quite a but at the starting line Cant wait to see this make progress and become better.

Loved this app. I didn’t usually write reviews, but I really enjoyed this app for my first half marathon. It was so easy to use and I like that I didn’t have to set up a username/password. The pace updates every mile were great and the tracking made it really easy for my family to cheer me on along the course.

Thank you for an app that works!. We were waiting on a friend while she was running a full marathon, and being able to pin point where she was, was very helpful! No glitches, and frequent notifications make this app so great.

Great Run/Walk App during a race. I love the feature that tells you the estimated time to finish. I also love the encouraging cheer tones! It knew exactly the point I crossed the finish line and stopped tracking. Although there were a couple small glitches with finish times all in all I was excited to use it!

A frustrating experience. Pros: the cheer option and the ability to see participants on the map are both good. Cons: The app layout and navigation is not intuitive at all, and during the race on multiple occasions I was disconnected from the app because it thought I wasn’t moving, despite the fact that I was moving. It is a great concept, but Joy was not what I was feeling.

Love it!. This app was amazing! It has some chinks to work out and it’s a little on the plainer side but I loved being able to get cheers from my family and friends in my ear as my I ran my half marathon, even if they weren’t there cheering me on in person! It was so amazing! Definitely suggest using it!

Disappointing. Was great when it worked. Glitchy interface, particularly in areas of intermittent cell service - through which an app such as this should be able to go offline and keep track through GPS or extrapolate race times/distances/paces. Our team of 12 finally gave up on it. Navigating the interface was not intuitive but would have been forgiven had it worked

The Race is On!. The Racejoy app is fantastic! I was bummed when I couldn’t attend the race to support my friends. This app was the next best thing to being there. It allowed me to keep track of each of them, their times, and cheer them on all the way. Thanks Racejoy!

Great App. I’ve used this app before when I ran my first 5k last year and it was great. This year I ran my first half marathon and had my family track me and send cheers because they couldn’t attend. It was such a great way to feel like they were there with me. The app has been amazing for me so far.

Not working. Keeps saying results auto submit failed, when following prompts to manual submit it doesn’t lead anywhere except a registration look up, now trying to move on to the next course for the new week and it’s not pulling up the right one and won’t clear out the time from yesterday, tried deleting the app and reinstalling same thing different course but still the wrong course

Not dependable. I used this for a half marathon. It stopped giving me my mile alerts at mile 8. I got alerts of cheers on my watch, but then went to my app and all the cheers were gone. It didn’t matter if I looked 5 minutes later or right away, they were never there. Also, the cheers should be easier to hear/get to for the runners. We’re busy racing, we don’t want to fool with our phones.

At least there was manual submit.... I just used this app today for the Kickoff to Kinnick 5k virtual run (usually it’s live and ends on the 50 yard line of the home of the Hawkeyes!). At 2.25 miles (had my Fenix 5x on too) I just hit mile 1 in the app. Amazingly enough, at 3.25 miles (I know, a little more than the regular 5k) I was still on mile 1. THANKFULLY the app had an error trying to submit my time (only saving grace in this, weird as it’s another bug) so I was able to upload my actual results for the run. Won’t ever be using this one again.

So fun. Loved this app! So fun and really easy to use! Only thing that my family and friends did not like was it drained their battery while tracking me. I ran a 10k and by the end everyone’s phone had died. Other than this, it was amazing. I enjoyed getting the cheers and the updates on how I was doing.

Two stars for effort. I tried to use this app... The day before the race I picked my race and such ... installed the app on my wife’s phone too. The next day they seem to have not “saved state” and when I went to start the race it wanted me to choose the race and crap all over again ..... said forget it and put it in my pocket ... An hour later my battery was dead because of it .... I can only assume it was just banging away on the GPS and such ....

Thanks, RaceJoy!. I ran my first marathon and RaceJoy made it very easy for my friends and family to see where I was and cheer me on. It definitely helped in the moments where I was feeling tired to get a “cheer” from one of my friends or family members. Very easy to use and I plan on using RaceJoy for any future featured races.

Love it. Love this app! I use it for my half marathons so my friends and family can track me. I love hearing the cheers my friends/family can send me through the app. I also enjoy being able to hear my pace and ETA after every mile. Overall this is a great app and makes the race more enjoyable!!

Easy to use...if you want to carry your phone. The app is very user-friendly for both racers and those cheering them on. Only downside is the racer must carry their phone or tracking is lost. I had an equipment problem on race day and ended up literally carrying my phone in my hand for a 15K so my ppl would know where I was on the course.

Horrible app. Do not try on this for a race. It won’t save. What a horrible app experience. First this made me register 4 times before it saved my information. Every time I registered it erased it if I left the app for another and then made me restart. Then when I raced it was inaccurate in terms of distance. It said I finished .25 miles early via notifications. All of the mile markers were off compared to my watch gps as well as physical mile markers. Finally and worst of all when I looked at the app it had lost my time so I lost my data. If you have to use this app make sure to bring another gps device and do not rely on this one to save your time. And if you are a race organizer please choose another app.

Crashing every time I open it. I am currently getting ready for a race I have this coming Saturday which uses RaceJoy. I’ve used it before for a marathon and it worked great but I’ve downloaded it again for this weekend but I can’t do anything before the app crashes. It opens up to the home screen and then two seconds into anything else it just closes out on my phone.

Needs treadmill tracking. Really needs the ability to do steps so that it can do treadmill tracking for virtual races. Didn’t realize my steps were tracking until I was an hour in. So I had to do an extra couple miles to complete my 10k outside

Absolutely AWESOME App. Loved this App. Ran the Utica Boilermaker and my family/friends from all over were able to see where I was on the race and literally send support right to my ear. I cant say enough about it. You must try for yourself to see just how awesome it it.

Long distance fans. Thank you for the opportunity to use RaceJoy for the Maine Marathon! It was my first half marathon and my husband was not able to go with me. ( We live 2 hours north of the race ). He was able to track my race, update my friends and family. The sent me messages of encouragement from home-it was WONDERFUL!!

Big beach marathon. We loved using this app great how it tells you where your at how far times and the cheers that your friends and family can give you

Love it!. I only used this app during my race but it was encouraging and so helpful. Loved hearing my pace and projected finish time. So fun to receive cheers and have my family at home be able to see how I was doing! I’ll definitely use this again!

Husband & daughter cheerleading team.. I was moral support for my wife. This app allow us to follow her each step of the way as she ran a half marathon. It notified us as she ran and we were able to meet her at the finish line. Sidenote I’m so proud of my wife for completing her half marathon, first time.

Tracking doesn’t work. The tracking feature does not work properly. You get stuck in an endless loop of selecting who you want to track only for that information not to be saved. The user is then immediately prompted to enter the info of the person they want to track again. I can see that this person is online. Very frustrating experience and poor engineering.

Awesome app. I love this app I was able to track my friends and family in the race, and send them encouraging Cheers during the race. I definitely will use it again and would encourage others to try it. Keep up the great work.

Race running. It makes it hard to hit the “start” button when you wear a spider belt to keep the phone out of your way. Otherwise, I loved the motivation and mike markets. One more thing: my Garmin was more accurate than the apps gps. I know they share, so it SHOULD be the same.

Terrible Design and Functionality. Let’s start with the worst part - with my phone silenced in the middle of a church service, this awful app started playing this annoying cowbell and jingle bell sound for the runner I was tracking. Moving on from there, everything about this apps interface design is wrong. Poor button placement, fuzzy icons, the runner I was tracking disappeared, and nothing is intuitive. This app needs to be ripped apart and totally redesigned.

Great Race App. Was hesitant to download another app onto my phone but was happy to have this app assist me on my race. My race was on a path and through a park with lots of turns. The GPS voice told you where to go and also told you your pace and splits at each mile and estimated finishing time and was pretty accurate!

Amazing!. I have used this app for two different half marathons. It was so encouraging to “hear” from friends and family while running! Totally kept me going. Also loved the mile updates and that it tells you your estimated finish time. Great job!

Great asset to race day experience. Really liked this app! So did my family members who were tracking me. The notifications sent every mile kept me aware of my time and pace which was really cool. Highly recommended.

Very useful race day app!. Worked great!! My husband was able to track me throughout the race and knew when I was getting close to his location. It even allowed family and friends to watch my progress from out of town, but still send support and cheers!!

Loved cheer feature. Highly recommend! Used this app in a local race over the weekend and it worked really well. My family was watching me online and they sent me a cheer. I could see where my fellow racers were and cheer them along.

Made a great day super irritating. Literally every function I tried to use didn’t work. GPS tracking didn’t work. Trying to send cheers to fellow runners didn’t work. When I got notifications of milestones from my team, clicking the notification lead to A blank page. Literally this just happened again while I was writing this review. from my experience, this app is not ready for use.

Very glitchy. When the app works it has a lot of info and good features. Unfortunately it has a lot of glitches- too many to name. Drop down lists populated the same option to select 7x so I couldn’t select the right active course on the map, some links were non responsive, the sign in process kept looping, to name a few.

Good idea. Poor execution.. Our team tried to use this app throughout our relay. Most of the time it would time out and not load. At times it would pick up half of the team. It rarely picked up the runner. It drains the phone battery quickly. It is very confusing to navigate through the options on the app. I would never use this again. We spent so much time trying to figure out how to use the app and missed out on enjoying the race because we were on our phones the whole time.

Racing is a Joy!. Race joy made it possible for my family to meet me at another part of the race and the timing to see them was perfect because they were able to track my run send cheers and even plan when to come to a certain mile! LOVE IT!

Great Turkey Chase Race in Bethesda!. Loved the app and the announcements! I felt the support and loved feeling connected. App was easy to use and I plan to keep using it after the race to track my miles. Thanks for making Thanksgiving a little more fun this year :)

Loved it!. I just used Race Joy for the Corning Wineglass half , it worked ABSOLUTELY fantastic!! My family and friends were able to track me the whole time and knew exactly where I was ! It was definitely on the money !!! Looking forward to using it again !!

Wineglass Marathon User. The friends and family tracking me seemed to really enjoy it and said it was user friendly. Unfortunately I couldn’t hear the cheers while running, but almost better when after the race I could listen to them all in celebration. Alerts did come to my Apple Watch.

Would use it again. It wasn’t completely obvious how to use it, but with playing around a little, I figured it out. It was nice to get updates along the way, encouragement via estimated time of finish, lap times and lap averages. And my husband could keep an eye on my progress as well.

Love this app!. I used this app for the first time during the Hell of a Half marathon in Exeter, CA. It was such an awesome experience having my family in different states cheering me on as I ran the race. Definitely recommend all races to use this app for the runners to experience what I did.

Good overall but timer can’t be stopped. Overall does the job but it would have been great to be able to stop the timer all the times I had to stop at a traffic light. Too bad the finish time tracked by the app is not really my official time.

Does not sync to smart watches... I’m giving this two stars simply for the fact it does not sync to smart watches and the most helpful dictation I received ended up being “you may be off course”. If you don’t know the course, you have to hold your phone and if your off course your little dot doesn’t move until you are back on course. I was pushed f to use this app after my runs turned virtual.

KENTUCKY Derby MiniMarathon. This app was great for my half marathon. My son was at home and able to tack me during the race. He really liked that. I liked that it updated me at each mile along the way so I could keep up with my pace. Better than any other running app I’ve ever used.

Super app for spectators!. As a spectator, RaceJoy lived up to its name, a true joy! Easy to use, appreciative of stats, fun to follow my participant, options for viewing tracking by terrain, labeled map, and satellite views, fun to cheer on participant. Some of the cheers were cheesy, but lots of choices! Will definitely tell my friends.

Very motivating!. This is a great App. I didn't really know how it worked until a mile into my race, a voice gave me a summary of my run and an estimated finish time. Wow, how motivating. My last three miles were faster since I was so close to a sub one hour 10K. I hope other races will use this App.
