SonoPad for Sonos App Reviews

Very COOL. I was having problems with my Sonos CR200 not finding any on-line music after another upgrade so while looking for an upgrade or fix I ran across SonoPad and gave it a go. I can now access my on-line Music and even have access to my saved favorite stations and my Sonos controller is still not working. I have a ZP-90 connected to some nice AMPs & Tower Speakers as part of my system and SonoPad makes the listening experience more fun as I no longer need my reading glasses to browse Music. For a fist shot this app is very cool and I'd like to see the ability to make changes to the Sonos Equalization and possibly a few more tweaks, but please don't let it get so complicated it becomes another menu intense app.

Best of the batch. for sonos. App needs improvement but it’s my favorite:) Please keep up the good work. Sonos is a nightmare, wish I never invested but feel stuck now after thousands of dollars… Blessings Jorge

New life for iOS 5.1 devices!. Love, LOVE this app -- as a long time Sonos and iOS device owner, it is awesome to be able to run my system using my original iPad 1 as a dedicated controller. The continuing support (and enhancements!) for older versions of iOS is much appreciated. If you have Sonos and want to re-purpose an ancient iPad as a dedicated controller, this is the way to go.

Great Replacement for Horrible New Sonos App. Worth every penny. This third party app is even better than the original Sonos controller--- much faster, for one! I haven't been listening to music for the last month or so because the new Sonos app is so non-functional and counter intuitive. I was furious whenever I used it (just like everyone else) so I just stopped listening until I came across this app. It's weird to watch a company like Sonos crash and burn with no clue what its customers want......maybe this app developer will take over the company when the current owners have run it into the ground.

Finally love my Sonos again. This app is well worth the investment. I have an old iPad glued to the wall to use with Sonos. This became completely unusable with the Sonos app. Now my system works reliable and quick again and doesn’t Drop all the time. I finally can use my system again. If I hadn’t spent so much money on Sonos speakers I would hav ether own them out but now they work perfectly again.

Does the job. Solved my problem of running Sonos from an old IPad and IOS 9. Worked instantly.

Awesome app! Best one available!. Best app available for Sonos systems! Great customer service. Design is simple and intuitive and also works on older devices! All the 1-star reviews are due to ignorant people not reading the limitations before making their purchase. This app does not have all the same features as the official Sonos app. As for people experiencing crashes, well, I have never had a problem with it crashing..? This app is fantastic!

How do I update my library?. I put new music onto my server, but sonospad doesn’t see it. On the Sonos app I used to have it update music library and that would to it. How do I do it with sonospad?

Saved My Ability To Manage My Sonos System. When Sonos rolled out it’s totally redesigned app, almost every basic function was missing. Clearly there was no testing, nor was there any consideration given to all of us who created a Sonos ecosystem over the years. Fortunately, I already had the SonoPad app on my iPad and I was able to perform roughly 85% of the functions that I previously had using the S2 app. Sonos really screwed the pooch this time around, but fortunately Sonopad is a very good workaround. Not all functions are there, like adding new directories for a Nas Drive, or to set an alarm. All in all, SonoPad saved the day.

Much better than new sonos app. This is the answer to Sonos' terrible new app for the iPad. This one has a great layout and logical navigation. You can see everything you need at once. It's just missing a sleep timer, but that is supposed to be coming. I also wish the up and down arrows in pandora worked more like the sonos app. Otherwise I'm very pleased.

Works with old iPads (and new). Slick interface and works well with any iPad, not just the new ones. It also is updated regularly to keep up with Sonos!

High hopes-but a no go. Was exited to find an app that would work (the app from Sonos is a joke). But, this app is not a good as it sounds. It’s not intuitive. It doesn’t find playlists like it should. When it does and loads them, it doesn’t play anything even though you click the play button. It’s weird the way it does load playlists, then has to load them again in the play list-play side. The really stupid thing is, when I open the native Sonos App and got it to play (finally), THEN this app turned right around and was playing the same play lists. If I turned playlist off in this app, it auctioned on the native app. Just kluge. And while the developer is nice, there is simply ZERO help files out there. So now, I have paid for an app that isn’t working and difficult to use and a native Sonos App that is a joke and doesn’t work correctly at all. Which means, my Sonos system is now all junk to store in the garage. This is infuriating. I would not buy this again.

Fixed! -- SonoPad for Sonos solved my problem. I've used Sonos speakers for approx 6 years with my music library on my iPad. I used the Sonos app on my iPad 2 (iOS 9.3.5) as the controller until Sonos dropped support. For a year I was stuck then I found the SonoPad app. It works and solved my problem. I can again use my iPad 2 to control my Sonos sound system. I did have to copy my music library to a USB drive and connect it to my router. I used the Sonos S1 Controller program on my desktop computer to add my music library connected to the router. Now I play my music from the USB drive using the SonoPad (iPad 2) app. Thanks!

Excellent. This app is tailor made for folk who want to escape from the forced-upgrade system at Sonos. It just works with all your components, new and old. I froze our firmware so our existing hardware would not get intentionally-bricked by Sonos and have been happy with both the iPad and the iPhone based versions. Yes, the UI is different from that of Sonos, etc. but for day-to-day use, this App is pretty awesome. High quality album art can really shine on the iPad.

Awesome App!. This app has saved my sanity after Sonos decided to roll out an app that was utter garbage in every way. If you’re still struggling with trying to get your S2 app to work, just stop and get this app. Best money I’ve spent in a long time! There are two different Sonos controller apps from this developer, this one for the iPad and another one for the iPhone. Do yourself a favor and get this app, stop struggling with the trash that Sonos forced on us.

IPad1 Hero. I was pretty disappointed when Sonos decided that they were going to stop supporting the original iPad and iOS 5. I use my iPad to read email, to surf the web, and to control my sonos. I don't need a new tablet (and I don't want to spend the money for a new tablet). This $4.99 app is the PERFECTsolution to the problem, it gives me control of my Sonos again, and the interface is far better than the latest sonos interface, it is more intuitive, buttons are where they should be. 5 stars for this $5 iPad saver.

Finally a way to play Sonos on outdated iPads. So grateful to have come across this app that now let's us use an "old" iPad that Sonos was not compatible with. This will be our Sonos command system now. Thanks to the developer. Wish they would develop an app that would combine Sonos, lighting from Philips hue and nest products. All items the manufacturers won't allow to work together

Even if you don’t need this spp it’ll make you happy. I tried this out because I was curious and and after a week I only have good things to say about it. It’s got a very intuitive interface. and I love that I can fid out more about a track or an artist without leaving the app. Also, when I had a question they got back t me right away, Good job.

Great app. Better than Sonos standard app. Clean, fast, easy to use. Love the way this app reduces the number of clicks needed to do common tasks. Sonos just updated their app to provide faster access to favorites and their app is still much worse than this one, when he gets single touch favorite buttons on the home page it will be perfect :). Really like the look of it too.

The only Sonos app that works. Since the official app has become a dumpster fire, this is the only app that works with my system anymore.

If you have a Sonos system buy this app.. I have a 8 Sonos speakers and this is much better than the official Sonos app. A little confusing at first, but the more you use it the easier it gets. The clincher is less finger tapping to play selected music. Works great with Pandora, SiriusXM and Calm Radio but compatible with almost all other music services. Tech-support answered my email within 48 hours. Well worth the $$$.

Perfect. My 2013 ipad mini is my remote, but the 'real' Sonos app no longer supports older devices. Sonopad isn't just a replacement, it is a significant improvement. Definitely worth a few bucks.

App needs updating badly. Finding your Apple Music is difficult and the interface to do this needs updating. Albums will load into playlists in disorder and not in order of album. Search mechanism needs work. All in all I would not buy again.

Brilliant. This app restored my non-TuneIn radio stations which is mostly what I play on my Sonos speakers. The new Sonos app is absolutely terrible and anti-customer, which was making me thinking about trashing my speakers. This app gave me back what the idiots at Sonos took away.

Brilliant, Beautifully Executed App.. The absolute solution for properly controlling Sonos. I was able to revitalize my older Gen 1 & 2 Sonos incompatible iPads using this fantastic app from Stefan Hansel Solutions. After a brief session I converted all my iPads to this easier to use and far more informative app. Well done and highly recommended, its a bargain!

Good app!. Please add option to reduce font size. I am using iPad Pro 12.9 and longer albums and song names overlaps when multiple albums are displayed. This makes it very hard to read and select the correct file. Thanks so much!

Sonos should just buy this app!. The official Sonos app just stopped working with my local music library after the “upgraded’ the S2 app. Sonopad continues to work fine. Just goes to show that one competent developer can often do more than a whole team of engineers.

Best app I've ever downloaded!. This app has it all. I have had it now about 30 minutes. Works seamlessly and very intuitive. Set up is automatic. Found my system faster than the real sonos app on my iPhone. I have an older iPad so I needed this app. Well worth the $4. Highly recommended.

Wow!. Like others, I was extremely annoyed that I could no longer use my older iPad to run my Sonos system. I did some research and heard about this app. WOW... is what I said when I first opened it. This app loaded with no issues and has my 13 zones running perfectly. But the design and ease of use is what really makes me say WOW. Definitely a step above the standard Sonos app. Job well done and thank you!

Very seamless and good alternative to Sonos app. Always nice to download an app that works as described ! I prefer the interface to the actual Sonos app. If it let me access my account, add devices, and use my iPad playlist I’d add a sixth star.

Awesome replacement for the stock Sonos app. As of May 2024 Sonos has broken their app — read the many unhappy reviews. Most of the time it cannot even find the Music Library. SonoPad works great and has a better user interface. You don’t have to give up your privacy to this app. No complaints — all kudos!

thank you, thank you, thank you. When Sonos recently disastrously revised its controller software, I was at wits end. I love my Sonos speaker system, and play music on it for hours every day. Sonos' software mess made my 7 speakers nearly unusable. SonoPad (and SonoPhone) saved the day. I thought perhaps I'd use them until Sonos got its apps working well again. Now I like them so much I'm not even trying Sonos' incremental attempts to recover from their face plant. Well worth the modest price.

Great app for those fed up with the native Sonos app. I’ve always wanted to upgrade the default Sonos app. I stumbled across SonoPad during a search and gave it a try. I love the app. It is so much user friendly than the Sonos app. I did have some issues initially and reached out to support. Stefan was able to narrow it down to an issue with my music library and thoroughly helped me solve the issue. Can’t wait for the warm weather and normal life to return so SonosPad can lead the music during out get togethers. Thank you Stefan.

Doesn’t Work. Simply does not work. Won’t find, recognize or play music from Sonos or iPad

New life for old iPad. Like many, was annoyed that the latest Sonos controller would not run on the original iPad and the older version would not connect at all. Loaded Sonopad, took a long time to load all 15 zones, contacted Stefan, got a prompt reply, manually entered the IP address of one zone as he suggested, bingo, loads in a second! We only use online sources, so can't vouch for other features, but works great for us. Well worth the price and glad developers like Stefan can save us when Sonos makes a mistake.

Focus is on the music. The official sonos app for iPhone is okay but the one for the ipad feels like it gets in the way of the main thing I ant to do, which is find and listen to music. This app solves that and includes very cool stuff like links to meta data which are very nice.

Great App; GREATER customer support!!!. NOTE: I wrote this the day before he updated the app. Since it doesn't show up under "current version" reviews, I have reposted. I am very pleased with this app. I find the interface more visually pleasing than the Sonos app. The quick access to Artist info is very nice. The GUI for Zone Managment is very nice, as is volume control. However, by far the greaest part of my experience has been with support. I had an issue that caused the app to freeze frequently. I wrote the developer, who responded in about 12 hours. I sent him the requested logs, he found the problem, and had an update issued--all of which happened in less than 48 hours from my first email. This is superior service!!!

Finally!. Until I found this app I had stopped buying any more Sonos speakers. There are too many simple functions missing from the Sonos app, like the ability to sort by song title or band. There have been requests on the web for years asking for that simple function, but Sonos doesn't listen. The maker of this app did listen, and he nailed it. There is also a function that lets you see the Wikipedia page for the artist - Brilliant! This app is making music fun again.

Saved My System. Sonos obsoleted all the hardware I use. They just stopped supporting it without warning. I would have to have replaced four devices. Also, every time the force their dysfunctional updates it crashes my system, and I have to reconfigure it from scratch. With this app, all my hardware works again, and I am free of the clutches of Sonos! It is also a much cleaner and faster app than the Sonos controller, and works great!

Very happy. Now I can use my old iPad again. The design is actually good too, I like the interface, better than the Sonos app. Easy to use, added functionality, like searching for info about artist. I didn't even have to set it up, it worked straight away.

Waste of money .... Very poor functionality. Will find my music via the network on my PC based media server, but cannot play it. Does not indicate in any way what the problem might be. Will find and play my iPad based radio stations, however if I look at any other music source via the Sonopad app while a radio station is playing, there is then no way to revert the view to the playing radio stationother than to try and manually locate it again.

THANK YOU!. The last SONOS update stopped my daughter's iPad mini from controlling SONOS. Was causing uproar in our house. Best $6 I've spent this week.

BAM. iPad 1 has purpose once again. All i wanted was to be able to run it as a dedicated device for downstairs music control. Can't creating playlists but who cares, I can do that on the computer which frankly is the best place for creating play lists. This is a great Job and app.

Thank you Sonos for stopping iPad1 support. Searched for an alternative so that iPad1 could continue to be used as Sonos controller and found Sonopad. Not only does it work on iPad1 -- it is better than the Sonos controller. Way better. Would pay double. Don't hesitate to download. Thank you Sonopad!!!

Works great!. I lost the ability to use my Sonos no thanks to Bell’s upgrade to fibre which requires a certain router that does not, for some reason, allow the Sonos controller to be installed. Fortunately, I discovered SonoPad. I gave it a try and it works perfectly. Thank you for creating this app!

Great app. Love this app been using it for years it's very well updated. Now it's the only way to se my old iPad to control my Sonos system as its updated to S2. This app is easy to use and has features not available in the Sonos app that make it well worth having especially now that one of my iPads is useless for Sonos without it. Thanks for years of enjoyment.

Better In Some Ways. Much better UI than Sonos controller, particularly the positioning of touch controls. Also doesn't waste screen real estate like Sonos does with the huge white space on the left. Nice to have volume control on the "album art" screen. However, it struggles a bit with interface to the Sonos data, as there are noticeable delays. And the Sonos search function functionality is far superior. I use both controllers, Sonos for setting up a playlist and Sonopad for playing.

Works great on my crappy old iPad. Well, wouldn't you know it? I have this perfectly good original iPad and the Sonos app doesn't work on anything older than iOS 10. A good friend of mine recommended this app for me and I tried it. Absolutely perfect! In fact, there are features and capabilities in this app that I wish Sonos had in their's. Definitely worth the cash for the purchase – try it out for yourself!

Love this app, so much better than Sonos S1. I was a very early Sonos fan, and I continue to use their hardware. The original Sonos app started off well, but over versions (and let's not even get into S1/S2 mess), the app UI became cluttered and non intuitive . Since I do not use everyday, I found I was struggling to navigate in the Sonos app. The SonoPad app is laid out extremely well, and I use it only now for music. Plus it runs on older iOS so I use an iPad mini 1st gen as a controller. This is a fantastic app that is so much better from a user perspective than Sonos S1.

Worked immediately no issue. I have an older sonos amp based system and play 3’s that’s s1 . An old iPad 2 from a drawer that’s iOS 9.3.2 does not work with sonos s1 I turned into a controller in a few minutes with this SonoPad app. Works great. App is intuitive and simple. Even displays more information than the sonos S1. Only thing I can’t seem to find is a search functionality. Five stars overall however. Regarding the search , I just got a response directly from the developer ( thank you Stefan ) …Search is there, it’s part of each menu item, just not global. Great product overall I’m using it on a very old iPad, and latest iOS 15.2 on newer ipad and my iPhone. Definitely recommend.

Pretty good. This app lets me use a perfectly good older ipad. The Sonos app wont work on older ioses. No alarms or clock setting.

No too bad, but.... Ok the interface is slick, but the app does not let view or set alarms... really ! We wake every morning to Sonos via set alarms, and I was hoping this app would be easier to use... Not Available ! Can’t save Spotify songs to Sonos playlist. Sonos playlist take long time to load. Don’t waste your money on a slick interface with useless bells and whistles (internet search) Wish I could leave zero stars...

DOA. Dead on arrival for me. Not able to operate it on my iPad mini with new os. Support is an email. So it is dead dead dead, right now just a waste of money.

Needs portrait mode. Functional, but without portrait mode, this app is of no use to me.

No good- lacks instructions. What a ripoff. This app does not work. Music on the iPad is not accessible. There are no instructions. Save your money, stick with the original FREE sonos controller app.

Has potential but……….. Nice effort but it doesn’t connect to Spotify. Will probably seek a refund. Would also like have been able to use in portrait mode.
