Font Size. Can you give large font size choice? It costs nothing, I never liked to read in small font size.

Awesome dictionary!. So the developer updated this app right before the release of iOS11, that’s 3 years after the previous update! Congrats to the reborn! I love this app on iPhone, and it gets even better on iPad now. But I hope developer can bring back the translation feature which I think is very convenient in app.

Update Update. Update. PLEASE. What happened to asking for correct pronunciation option since latest update ??????? No microphone anymore.

Will not go to landscape view on iPad. I like this app but we use it for our Scrabble dictionary , however we find it very frustrating that my keyboard on my iPad Pro goes one way and the dictionary goes the other. We are not able to change this dictionary to landscape view to coincide with our typing. Eventually we take the iPad out of its secure home so we can see our search words without standing on our heads. Yech!

Great Dictionary — Horrible App. It appears that this app has not been updated in years. I paid for this app years ago when it was still being updated, but on my 2020 iPad Pro, the app itself does not fit the aspect ratio of my screen. That means it’s blurry and doesn’t even expand to the full width of my screen. I get the app in the middle with two black bars on the sides. This is a great dictionary with a huge number of resources, but I expected the app to continue to be updated since I paid for it. If they had discontinued the app, I would understand — but they still sell it on the app store. That means people are buying an app that is already well outdated. I would love to see a refresh to this app similar to what they did for the iPhone app, especially if it is to stay on the app store for any considerable amount of time. It seems silly that the iPad app could be so ignored when there is a shiny new iPhone app.

Would be 5 stars if notable flaws were fixed. For a paid app, it is a disappointing experience. You cannot launch the app from its own notifications or the widget. When I get a daily word notification and press on it, the app tries to launch but crashes. Every time. The same happens if I tap on “Learn more” in the daily word widget. I have been using iPad Pro 2018 with the latest software. The app also suffers from formatting issues. You can’t see the widget very well if you turn on dark mode. Otherwise, once you do launch the dictionary it’s a nice app.

No word of the day, please!. As long as this app doesn’t make it easy to stop the word of the day from showing up, it only deserves one star.

Screen size. Needs to be updated to fit iPad Pro screen size.

Awesome app. But lacking ability to easily go back to previous word (back button)

Good dictionary.. I just hope you guys would love to build up on this dictionary by updating this with new words. Btw, this is good enough for me.

Medical and Science Dictionaries Not Downloading. Hi all, can you please advise why the dictionaires above are not downloading in my ipad? I bought the dictionary pro edition some while ago. Please advise bc i really need this to work for my studies!

Where is my translation function?. I need the translation function to help me lean English.

Now iOS 11 Compatible. Thank you for updating this app to be compatible with iOS 11.

Great app.. Love it! Particularly love the pronunciation feature.

Why do I have to pay for this in my iPhone?. I love your app, but can’t understand why I have to pay twice for my iPhone and iPad.

Great app. It has been very helpful to me as I age and start forgetting how to spell. Use it frequently.

No External Keyboard Support. It is extremely frustrating that there have been no serious efforts to address those of us who use external keyboards. Seriously? But then again, I guess when an app’s “about” section shows a copyright two years out of date, one shouldn’t expect much from their developers. Overall I love the functionality of the app. As someone who writes on their iPad, the program is useful. As someone who uses an external keyboard, the lack of keyboard commands is inexcusable. Using the app slows me down and forces me to take my hands off my keyboard. And that’s a deal breaker. Meh.

I had to purchase twice. At first I purchased the iPhone version, for smaller screens. Not eligible for a refund. So I ended up purchasing two versions of this app, and wasting $3.99. Why is the iPhone version not eligible for a refund when it is of no use to me and was a purchase mistake? Perhaps you should clearly state “NOT FOR IPAD” at the top of your description. Not refunding this mistake is just ridiculous. You are more interested in money than doing the right thing.

Upgrade this one. Even though this a working progress, this one needs the same function as upgrade one. But please make sure to add auto rotation function to it as well

Mechanical Engineer. More of a Math guy, than an English person. Dictionary comes in handy every time I need to put my thoughts into writing.

Does not render correctly on iPad Pro. This app has not received an update in over a year. I suspect the developers haven’t even looked at it since then. Go to Home, pick a random article, and see that HTML is not rendered properly. The text has JavaScript and random markup sprinkled throughout and no line breaks and no formatting of any kind. Test your apps before posting them to the AppStore.

Crashes. Word of the day crashes app on iPad.

Origins & Histories. This is a GREAT app, but in its latest update almost all the Origins & Histories data have DISAPPEARED. Please, please fix this. I Love this app and use it all the time; particularly to look up ORIGINS of words. Thank you.

Sync Favs w iPhone. I love the app and use it on iPhone all the time. That said, I don’t want to maintain two separate and unique lists of favorite words. This makes no sense, particularly when the iPhone app already syncs to iCloud. I’m confused why there are two individual apps (and don’t remember if I purchased both or not) but I’d rather run the iPhone app on iPad and have a single list of merged favorites than maintain two lists.

Great Dictionary. I like this dictionary. I use it for my word games. It’s a great app to have handy.

Origins Missing. The word origins section has disappeared while it is still available in the iPhone version of the app, which is also at a higher version number. That suggests the app is receiving minimal maintenance.

Excellent. Thank you to all the developers who worked hard to update this App and make it compatible with IOS 11. It is an excellent App and I enjoy using it daily.

Would be 5 star if multitasking compatible.. It would be really useful if you provide the multitasking feature in iPad.

Happy for the update. App has been recently updated and I am a happy camper. Try it you’ll like it. I have changed to a 5 star rating now that it is good to go!

Excellent. Yes, it's an excellent dictionary, I use it daily and have for years. Since I now have an iPad, I'm switching to to their appropriate app.

Where are the upgrades after iOS 13?. I purchased all the upgrades, but after iOS 13 was installed, I can't find any of them on this app. No science or medical dictionary, no idioms & grammar, no encyclopedia..... I'm very angry because I can't use them when I do need them!

Since Update Won’t Open on iPad Mini 4. Crashes over and over and over......... Was fine before recent update!

Missing the sounds. Just need restart the iPad. I like to hear the pronunciation for every word. But I couldn’t get any sounds when I click horn sign on the screen. My I-pad is iPad 13.2.3. Please help me to figure it out. I will change the stars after I got the answer. Thank you Just figured it out... Very good app

Great Reference. Seems to be a fairly extensive and well compiled dictionary. Great where spell-checker fails a writer.

Awesome app.. I have had the app for many years, and found that I was relying more on this company than the many others out there. I have now even bought all the updates. Totally worth it. Highly recommended! Keep up the good work! It gets better with every update.

Customer support?. For some time, I’ve been unable to restore premium packages I bought a couple of years ago. The robust app I bought is now no more valuable than all the other dictionary apps available. I’m disappointed and frustrated. I’ve contacted customer support several times in the last few weeks. I’ve heard nothing in response. The product was good, but the customer service leaves *much* to be desired.

Voice search?????. I bought this app because it said it had VOICE SEARCH!! There is NO place that shows or does this feature. Oh, it pronounces the word it brings up, but no way for a voice search, which is a feature I need. This app is like the free version I already had. Looks like a waste of money buying this!!!! If I could, I'd give it a No Star rating!!!!!!!

Pls add support on iPad Pro 12.9 inch. The app is a well polished one, yet hope you can add better display enhancements on the 12.9 size iPad Pro, thx

What happened to the "translator" ?. I would never update to an app that was less than what I had. I was able to translate to any language I needed. Now I can't. Sure you've got lots of stuff, but for me those things are a useless waste to time. Now how do I get my translator back???😡

Hooray! Updated for iOS 11.. Love the app and so glad that they released a new port for iOS 11 compatibility.

Etymology of Words Missing. The etymologies of words, which this app calls “Origins and History” (shouldn’t they be using the correct terminology?) are now all missing. This is very annoying. Etymologies are highly useful for language learning. This has always been a rather flakey app, however, and the developers flakey at fixing things. Buyer beware.

Needs Update for IOS 11. Needs iPad update before IOS 11. Update: No longer get message that app needs to be updated since it was updated. Works great.

Print too smalll and. Too light for people with poor vision.

I love you to death..and reference you at least 5 times a day...never leave me..♥️. I’m the most articulate person anyone knows..and I didn’t get there by myself...👵🏼

Love it!. I haven't found a dictionary that is more useful than this one. It has unexpected perks such as a translation feature.

A very useful app.. Update: The word pronunciation is again working, and I have uprated to 5 stars. Note: I tried to submit this via your website and "contact us", but it is timing out. I have found this app useful for quite some time now, thank you. Just today I have noticed there is no sound when I press the speaker icon for a pronunciation. This is an up to date version of the dictionary on iOS 13, running on the smaller version of an iPad Pro. The audio is turned up, and verified to be working. I do see the speaker icon flash momentarily, but there is no audio.

Content is good, but UI is confusing. Really, UI is not logical. I much prefer the UI of the iPhone version. Since iPhone and iPad apps are separate purchases, there is no excuse for non-sensical interface and layout. iPhone app is much more user friendly. Please fix.

Very reliable. I love the app but please optimise it for iPad Pro on your next update. Thank you! :)

Forget Prescriptivists or Descriptivists get Activists here. Now they are beginning to tell you what words should mean based on political bias. Deleted app. No thank you!

Great help. I constantly refer to this work, both pronunciations and definitions. It has not failed me yet!

Awesome. I love this dictionary !! It is so simple to use and so complete in its functions.... I love the word of the day.... I try to use the 'word' at least once in that day if I can...that way I am remembering the word and its meaning constantly throughout the day...works for me.

Well worth the money. Think this app is great use it regularly and very easy to use well done

Good. Good useful app that I paid for ages ago but now too many add on extras wanting more money. I know I don't have to buy them but they should be included especially the mic app.

Krispie. I don't usually bother rating apps, but this one is the exception which proves the rule. Excellent layout. User friendly. Comprehensive. Informative and amusing. A great resource, and so convenient. I'd be lost without it now.

Much improved. Latest update is a great improvement: intuitive and fun to use with friendly interface and some welcome new features. Has become my primary dictionary.

Deteriorating fast. Apart from the endless and unstoppable word of the day pop ups the app works well. But... It's clear the business model is to push upgrades and add ons to the point where this is becoming intrusive. Get this version. Don't upgrade.

Upgrade is disappointing.. The Dictionary app that won all the awards is NOT this version. I'm sure that I would appreciate the rhyme-finder feature if I was writing rhyming verses, and the Word of the Day feature is a little easier for my arthritic fingers than tapping tiny buttons, but I would prefer to go back to the previous version. Where did the great question feature go to? The histories and information contained in that feature were so informative as well as interesting. Perhaps the previous version was just more grown-up in appearance and content but, after trying this version for a week, I am going to delete it from my ipad and re-install the previous one from my computer.

Quite Good. The dictionary have many functions, but its design is a bit confused, and it really need updates for each functions. Eg the functional translator need to be added more languages.

No split view. Disappointing that the “premium” app doesn’t allow split view. It’s not productive when using Microsoft Word, or other word processing applications.

Incredible app!. I got this app thinking that it would only include a few definitions of words and example sentences, but what I got was much more than expected! You can find synonyms and antonyms for words, as well as there being a translator for different languages in the main menu. Overall, great app! I would definitely recommend it to English lovers, or people who wish to expand their vocabulary.

Only one issue.. Only issue is that it doesn’t support higher resolution of iPad Pro 12”. Other than that it’s awesome!

Paid upgrades needing to be re uploaded.. I now know that some of the upgrades are not sourced from the same area, I have purchased them all, so if I clear memory or website data they are deleted also, and have to be reloaded, science and medical, it’s not the end of the world but a bit annoying.

Dictionary. This is an excellent reference book. It is easy to use and is most helpful.

Outstanding On-line Dictionary. This is probably the most-used app on my iPad and my iPhone. It has all the features I need and more! I simply love it!

Great little app. I use this app on a daily basis and I think it's good value. I enjoy the features such as "Word of the Day", synonyms & antonyms and "Favourites" - this is definitely a convenient and fun way to learn. Only very occasionally have I not been able to find a word so overall, I find it useful and fun.

Wouldn't be without it.. Enjoy having such a great source of correct spelling and meaning at my finger tips. Unlike the hard cover dictionary that used to go walkabout, I know exactly where my online one is, at all times. Always very reliable.

Very good app. Very good app but lacks images/ pictures. A picture is worth thousands of words. So, having a picture in definitions for some words eg. names of instruments, food items, internal body organs etc will be very welcome. Desperately waiting for that.

Dictionary. This is a great app I use it regularly if I am listening or reading and a word comes up hey presto I have the meaning plus plus

No Split Screen for latest IOS. All I can say is, unbelievable! I just paid $9 for this and all because I believed (don't know why) that I could use the split screen option while working in Ai Writer, but no, there's no split screen option. This is a terrible mistake by the developers after they say it is compatible with the latest iOS, which is obviously isn't. Until they fix this, I am not impressed.

Good app but too much adds.. It’s a really good app to use but there are sooo many adds! Overall quite good but sometimes when I type a word in, it autocorrects it to another word. Thanks!

It's great, but.... The quality of the dictionary itself and the general quality of the app is superb. However the amount of micro-transactions is annoying.

Good. Have used this app for while. Generally like the app. New user interface is a bit annoying in some aspects, but not too bad - you get accustomed to it quite quickly. Confused though as to why the iPhone version has the option of a Medical and a Science dictionary as paid upgrades, but the iPad version doesn't. Strange.

Great App, best dictionary app have tried. Excellent features and comprehensive set of words & thesaurus, have tried at least 5 other dictionary apps ( some of them more expensive and with more famous sounding names ) and this by far the best. Word of the day is a simple and wonderful idea, has introduced me to many new words. Love the nearby words, but wish it was extended to more than just the 5 mile limit ( or whatever the metric equivalent is we use in Australia ).

Fine Dictionary. Yours is an increasingly fine resource, used every single day by me. Occasionally your Thesaurus fails to identify synonyms, which is disappointing. I love your little extras, and would like to thank you for the latest updates which are cost-free and a great help.

Worth It. This app is worth the $5 to get rid of those annoying ads in the free version. It is also a lot cheaper than paper dictionaries and I find it to be more convenient as well.

Mr Corpus. I was sceptical at the advertisement of the app nonetheless, tried it for myself and found it functionality wise to meet my expectations although, it is costly should you down the entire package.

Dictionary?. Too difficult to use, a waste of money, easier on my phone!

All in one. Great digital reference. Great value. Has more than I expected. Gives me my results every time. Have been using it daily for a variety of reasons. Translator for Greek is ok, dictionary is ok, thesaurus is ok and has exciting way for learning words & language. We'll done to developers. STV.

Great app. This is the best dictionary app. Great articles keep them up. Good defs including etymology and archaic uses. Hope you will keep adding modern usage. Date written to quotes would be good too. I highly recommend it, the kind of app you can enjoy over breakfast and learn a lot!

Falling short.... I would like to give this app a good review. I have it installed on my iPad mini & I use it a lot. I have the ad-free paid for version & have also acquired most, if not all, of the in-app purchases. However, I just got an iPod touch (64GB 5G) for greater portability & it is not available from my iCloud repository for installation onto my new device. It does appear to be to be available in the app-store but it looks like I would have to pay for everything a second time. Or download the free version & put up with the damned ads. NOT HAPPY! I would recommend that anyone considering this app take a look at WordWeb which is based on Princeton university's WordNet project. It is genuinely free & the app is maintained & kept up to date.

A great dictionary/thesaurus. BUT!!!. It's fantastic, but they make you pay for the voice search option. 2 dollars for a hundred words? How about no, and you take your hand out of my wallet?

Quite a good app. The thesaurus part seems to better than Roget's - design-wise as well as in terms of synonyms offered. The combination of dictionary and thesaurus is quite useful. Charging for voice driven search though is a total rip-off, in particular since it doesn't add that much convenience plus each payment is capped to a certain amount of voice searches before you'll have to purchase another batch. It's that annoying feature that made me allocate only three stars to this app.

Mine of information. Great information about derivation of words it is an endless fascination. I also appreciate hearing some of the words spoken - often one only reads them and can't 'hear' them in the head or the imagination.

All time favourite. Have been using this app for several years. Have used it during post-grad studies and for everyday use. It's on all my devices. Invaluable!

Awesome.. Despite being able to access plenty of free online dictionaries (i.e, one could argue that it's not necessary to pay for this), the app works offline, is extremely fast, has text predictions as you're typing in the word, is a thesaurus and has fun little 'word of the day' things. Yeah, it's 5 bucks, but it is a genuinely good app. I use it all the time for uni :)

Great app. Great app, so handy, especially in giving you the correct pronunciation of unfamiliar words with the audio player.

The best available at a reasonable price. I use it every day - with all the add-on plugins. Cost next to nothing in comparison to the famous dictionary apps. Enough said, I think.

Dictionary ad free. Love this app, it's a go-to for definitions, love word of the day, and comparisons of similar words and word origins. I keep learning something every time I open it. Well done to the developers, the extras like word of the day, the slideshows of language clusters, word origins, and the paid extras are all worth every cent

Love it. This is a fantastic app. I use it everyday and enjoy learning about new words and the history of language. I highly recommend it.

Useful helper. This app is easy to use and provides a simple interaction between dictionary and thesaurus. The daily words are also a useful way to broaden vocab. This is a staple in my app library

An Excellent Reference Resource. I can only commend the work of the people behind this excellent reference resource that I use daily in my study and work related pursuits. I look forward to one day having a offline version for my laptop and desktop.

Sweet. This app is clean, neat and eminently usable and useful. Not as pretty as some but maybe that's something for another iteration. The spoken pronunciation feature is a stand-out. This app leads the pack.

Fantastic on the iPad. I love this on my iPad. I wish the purchased upgrades would also transfer over to the iPhone version though.

Jimbo. A very useful and handy reference that I use regularly on iPad and iPhone. So much more convenient than flicking through pages in a book-form dictionary. It has definitely expanded my knowledge of words.

Iron Sharpening Iron. This tool is used daily and is a must for anyone in any profession where, writing, reading or researching are part of the daily routine. It exercises both my mind and vocabulary as I go about my daily tasks. Highly recommended!

Unusable-crashes constantly. Normally I would contact the support line for these matters, but the app support link takes you to an advertisement product review is the only way to indicate a problem. Since the IOS 6 update, this app has crashed upon opening, so quickly that it cannot be used. help please!!!!

Rather American in policy. Interesting app but find the American perspective on information rather annoying. Prefer the use of British spellings and usage.

Get's better all the time. Great functionality and makes words fun and interesting

Very handy. Love this app! It's to the point and very handy

Bit expensive. Having just bought the iPhone version on special I was a incensed at discovering I also had to pay for the iPad version. The makers of this app have a captive market and although it is quite a good app they are exceedingly arrogant and money hungry. There does not appear to be a large difference between the paid and ad-free versions at all, unfortunately. Five bucks just to not be blasted with ads? Pssht. It really is quite gross they expect you to buy two versions for each device. Until they offer free voice options for paid users, more features (or alternatively reduce the hilarious pricetag) they will not get my extra three stars! I have an inkling this app is nice and expensive for the Aussie market too. Just like it always is... regional pricing is a joke guys!

Never respond to app support!. I've tried 5 times to contact them regarding restoring my in app purchase over the past several months, no reply. Can't give them any stars.... Great app, poor service..

Solid program!. It provides more background information about words that the app produced by Webster. Unfortunately, I'm a product of the 80s, and am still not ready to embrace such crowd-sourced references. I still find myself cross referencing key terms with alternate sources. Dictionary dot com's integrity seems solid. Question: who checks & corrects oversights?

For for ESL. As an ESL, this app is really good for spell checking. Can't live without it!

Canot find the words.. Greatest dictionary I have ever used does not describe the value of this handy dictionary. It's right there when you need it and is a comprehensive source for all my word needs. An invaluable asset.

Excellent App. Very useful.

Brilliant and most user friendly. I use the dictionary app more frequently than any other. It adds a great deal to my thirst for increase to my vocabulary

Very useful. Word of the day is handy for a writer like me... Haven't really delved into other functionality like thesaurus ...etc... But it would be nice to easily copy / paste the data from the app, because when you click on a word it takes you to that word.... That has its own usefulness though...

Excellent app. Very useful and a lot of fun!

No Internet connection required ....really !!. Dictionary works fine...but you need internet connection for audio. Not worth $5 bucks. I need to check pronunciations for certain words and i can't do it without internet connection. Five stars for just th dictionary but one star for price and internet connection requirement.

Excellent App. My "go-to" app for all matters relating to words, i.e. definitions, synonyms, antonyms, root languages etc.

Not just a dictionary. Love this app!

Best Collection of Words (and such) ... EVER.. Very handy and incredibly useful. For most of my life I wished for a Dictionary to be available ALL THE TIME; now, there is! I use this APP every morning for the 'Word of the Day', and keep using referencing it throughout the day for clarifications and general interest. Excellent tool for learning. I love that they keep refining and adding to the APP. The new features have taken the place of other APPs, making this one a 'one stop shop' resource. 11/10 final score 😣😬

Word of the day. Just lové it

Good. Has what I need.

Voice search doesn't work. After speaking out a word, the voice search just keep recording. Does stop to show up the words.

Gimmicky, awkward GUI, no off-line accesd. The free iPhone version of this has a simple, clean interface and works off-line, but it desn't fit the iPad's screen. Since it works so well, I decided to buy the iPad version. Chalk vs. cheese. The interface is gimmicky and awkward, and on-line access is required. I am requesting a refund.

An app to have handy. Refer to it all the time. Synonyms particularly helpful. Missing the instant back-to-the-previous-word button.

Spanish / Arabic anyone.. The multi-language feature is great!

Review. Excellent!!

Great apps. I have been using this apps for months now and found it very useful, I love it.

Fantastic app. Very useful app. Especially love the "word of the day"

Not ad free. This app is littered with upgrade options which make it decidedly NOT ad free. Very mis-leading.

Translate not working. I am finding that my in-app purchases such as translate and voice translate are not working. Also encyclopedia, grammar and more are not showing up on the homepage. My purchase history confirms I purchased all in-apps, but only a couple are working. Not impressed.

Not working!. I have the premium version, after last last last update the pronunciation function hasn’t been working...please fixed

Love a simple app.. Impressed with its ease of use. Shame there are parties who are too cheap to part with a small fee for the audio add-on. Those same folks spend that on one caffeine fix at their favourite coffee shop. Thank you to the developers.

Good, but.... It is really a good App and dictionary, but all Apps suggested with it that I bought on IPod Touch 5 G did not Appear on the IPad 2. They still do nothing about it even if I told them that there was a problem. It is really not fair.

Indispensable. Truly one of my most go to apps.

You’ve served my needs very well.. Glad I discovered you. Dad

Dictionary. Has not worked since the last update. Please fix.

Dictionary. This is one of the best apps I have, I wouldn't go without it, a five star for sure!

DN. Endlessly informative and useful. Dare I use the word 'fun' ? The app is nice looking and well organized, and supplies a most stimulating environment for the lover of words to explore.

My Go To Dictionary. I love this app and use it whenever I need to check on a spelling of a word or its meaning ... which is often. Hard to lug around the OED, but this dictionary is always in my pocket.

Great. I love this App. While I am familiar with most definitions due to my years of very wide reading I sometimes do not know the pronunciation. This Dictionary solves that beautifully with its pronunciation feature. Great for words I don’t know and even better for pronunciation of words that aren’t used that often.

Nice app. Highly recommended

Poor experience on iPad. I have full paid version. The app is poorly designed and dysfunctional. Don’t even see all the upgrades I made.

good but not great. potential to be a great app. there's plenty of room for improvement.

Superb app. This app is great; it helps improve my vocabulary with the "word of the day".

Me. Love it

Gps and not universal. This app should be a universal app Stop forcing people to "always use GPS" when the app is in the background, it kills battery, and seems like you are only interested in tracking us. Add the option of GPS "while using". Until then 1 star.

Excellent. Not an intrusive app. Will send you daily the "Word of the Day". You can choose whether to look at it or not. I find them quite interesting and they will expand your vocabulary and sometimes they give you interesting topics of conversation. However, the main reason for buying this app is to look up words for meaning, use, grammar etc. this app has it all, it is a very complete compendium of what you need when you are writing anything. I am very satisfied with this app.

Stop working. After installing the last update, on June 10, stop working. I can't open the app.

Excellent App. A dictionary is an essential app for ipad. This fits the bill perfectly.

A great update!. Love the most recent update of Dictionary.I start looking up one word and then follow a trail to half a dozen others. Really enjoy slide shows and articles.Thank you!

Dictionary. I must be stupid...I paid $5 for this and didn't read all the info. I expected to have all the bells and whistles and then they asked for more money for one of the functions! (the voice function where you say a word and it spells it for you). They very carefully described this as without ads..and that is what it is! No ads but not an all inclusive app...shame on me!

Please update this app. I use this app every day on my iPad. Lately I have been seeing this message; "this app will make your iPad run slowly, please notify the developer for a update" otherwise this app is valuable for my school studies

Fantastic. Fun, informative, easy to use...I love it.

Don't leave home without it!!. It is like a bible for ESL community.

Word of the Day. This is my favourite function, I love the fact that it teaches me the pronunciation as well as the meaning.

iPad version and iPhone version do not share. My disappointment might be I bought the iPad version and when I download on my iPhone, I have to buy it again?

Dictastic. Love it

Worthless. A dictionary without illustrations is worthless...

Offline dictionary. I would love offline dictionary with this app

It Works!. I love this app. Most of the words that I look up are found with no problem and the definitions are pretty accurate. I also get much use from the synonym feature. I was pleasantly surprised by the voice feature where I speak a word to do a search. It has about an 80% accuracy rate so it's not as useful as it could be but still I like this feature. Nothing really more to add. The app continues to very useful, especially when I encounter new words. I continue to have a high regard for this app.

Rather disappointing. The user interface for this app is very disappointing. The tabs for purchased in app upgrades appear totally unconnected with the main dictionary. If you have a word selected in the main dictionary and click on the grammar tab it doesn't take you to the grammar section for that word - it opens with an explanation of the word "grammar" - very disappointing. The translate tab just brings up an error message saying it is temporarily unavailable (after you pay for an upgrade it should be there and working)

Leah ally blind help. What help do you offer to handicapped eyesight?

Words!. I downloaded the dictionary app about two weeks ago when I was searching for a specific word to help me write a proposal. Since then I use this app everyday - which I did not expect! I love the word of the day and I also find myself viewing the slide shows quite often. This is a useful app and it turns out at it is also fun. Who knew that improving my level of literacy would be so enjoyable!

The best dictionary app I have used to date. This is the best Dictionary, Thesaurus and vocabulary apps I have used to date. Have had a few minor crashing issues in the past but, nothing the last few months. This app is great I wish it could integrated into mail and some other apps. The word of the day is prodigious asset. For years I have had a extensive unabridged hard cover $600 dictionary on a pedestal in my sunroom I use to highlight a different word each day. With this app I now get two. Keep making improvements worth every cent of $10, you get all the information of an unabridged dictionary and copious amount of additional information. And before anyone makes a crass comment about highlighting a fine dictionary I use a special archival highlighter. It is meant to be used not collect dust. Just like this app. Use it to appreciate it.

Buy the iPhone app less money and it's the same. I bought the iPad version 4.99 iPhone verizon is 2.99 which you need to pay again. Funny thing is you could buy the iPhone version for 2.99 and use it on your iPad it might look a bit different because of the resolution but not a major difference. I am just disappointed that I payed $15 including all the upgrades to find out I have to repurchase them on my Iphone not happy. but the Use of the app and what it does it's great. I just wish they would let you know and don't make Pay for the size of the screen cus I really don't see any add features from one verizon to the other Thank you for your time hope you make a change

Pretty solid offline. My biggest complaint is that when online, Dictionary doesn't look beyond it's offline database to define or look up words. I believe that I shouldn't have to go to the web site to lookup a word, or find synonyms, if I'm already online. The app should know this and extend it's search. Seems hard to believe that this isn't the case, but I've not found a way to get it to work. It doesn't do out of the box. It does work very well offline though and it's great to have something for those times when an Internet connection isn't an option.

Excellent. I highly recommend this app. It is a good dictionary and thesaurus all in one. Previously, I was using a higher-priced dictionary, but I found that this app had many of the same features as the higher-priced dictionary. Over time, as I compared word searches and definitions on both apps, I found that the dictionary on this app was just as good as the higher-priced app. So, now I only use this app for my dictionary and thesaurus requirements.

Buy it!. I found this through an ad when using Google to find the definition of a word. I have been looking for something like this for months. And, you don't have to type in the word you're searching - you can just speak it...which is awesome! I can't even spell some of the words for which I need a definition. Not a problem anymore! Easy to use, price was right, you can collect a list of favorites, synonyms are listed right up front...I can't say enough. Love it, love it, love it!!!!!

Invaluable tool for readers in the age of ebooks. I have found this app extremely useful for reading academic literature. Most textbooks come in ebook format now and while I love the feel of a paper book, I don't like hauling them around. I have also grown to love searching within ebooks for finding material to cite when writing papers. I like that this app works offline so when I am disconnected I'm not flying blind when reading offline ebooks. I have also been impressed with the accuracy and detail of the definitions.

MUST HAVE FOR EDUCATORS!!. As a current college student, this is a must have app on the iPad, iPhone, iWhatever, other smart phones, or even set up on the desktop. I have used this app for students when subbing, and the students got excited just because it's on an iPad. It's our jobs as future and current educators to make learning fun and engaging. As rigor becomes the focus of STAAR teachers must earn to step up our game and give our students every possible option. 1:1 is great, use it effectively!

Great app... too bad its not universal.. The only thing keeping me from giving it a full five stars is that it is not a "universal" app... It's too costly to be available on only one iDevice (the one for which it was purchased). The features available, the content offered, a sleek and attractive user interface, and an immense database that is available offline, puts this app well above Webster's and Oxford's app; it is definitely a good investment. But why not charge a buck more and make it available universally?

Soooo close.... I was astonished to discover that this app does not allow the most basic function of its physical brethren, you can not browse!!!! Sure I could use this apps handy thesaurus to list all the ways I'm both disappointed and surprised. I could also use MANY of a host of excellent included features to do many other things, but I can not do the simple, basic task of merely browsing the encyclopedia. If you want to discover words you will simply have to check their word of the day. There is no other way to discover words with this app. For example- search for the letter "z"and then attempt to browse all the "z" words in the dictionary. Not going to happen with this app. How is this possible? I can't be the only word nerd out there who simply enjoys browsing all the amazing words in the English language. Please include this most basic function and I will be happy to rate 5 stars.

Thoroughly defines words, in different contexts, with all inclusive synonyms and related phrases. All inclusive dictionary and thesaurus accompanied by a profuse number of synonyms, frequent related phrases, voice recognition capability . Only glaring shortfall, (that dropped my rating), is the use of tiny fonts in the body of the "word" that cannot be enlarged, and the majority of over 40s generation will need magnifying glasses to view the definition of words --which appear in large bold letters at the top of the page. Retina display would help, but the current problem needs to be addressed and resolved.

Fantastic Product. This Dictionary is the go to place to find any words. If you can not spell the word. Do your best and you will receive a list of words to choose from. If you still can not figure it out try putting in a word that means the same. Like a synonym, then you can look under that particular word list of synonyms. Wallah there is the word you had wanted to use. Great programs and they have a slew more programs besides just a dictionary. Try them all, wow

No Easy Way to Browse. As dictionaries and thesauri go, this one is pretty good, providing a strong complement of synonyms for most words. To earn 5 stars: —Needs an easy way to browse. I like to just open a paper dictionary and graze on words. No ability to do that with this app. —would like the synonyms to somehow be linked to the various definitions under the word. As it is, the reader is left to guess which synonyms are appropriate for the nuance they are aiming for. Also, do not be fooled by the sample screenshots: for most words I've looked up, there were no provided antonyms...

A "must have" app!. Every once in awhile, I get a little app-happy, and have to clean some things off. This one takes up a good deal of space, yet I cannot bring myself to be without it. It is the quickest way to look up a word, and it gives so many options for learning more about that word, via synonyms, word use, etc. I love the Word a Day, and the exploration of the history of some words that is often the subject of a blog entry. This one should be a "basic" on the iPhone!

Misleading! Tricky updates! Expensive at the end!. Don't be fooled! They trick you into buying the in-app purchases first, then they offer an upgrade to premium which will Not include the purchases if u made them in the previous version, which means you will have to buy them again. If you buy the iPad version and get the in-app purchases they will not load into your iPhone if you have one so if you want them you will also have to buy them again. Agree with other users this developer has poor business practices. Will definitely ask for my money back, and I haver never done that with any other app.

Absolutely the BEST. I'm a police officer and sometimes have to write 10-50 page police reports. And I'm not bragging about being the best writer....from times to time, I get stuck with words, grammar and spelling issues, etc. I have the Dictionary Premier and added on several other options that could help you on the job. I paid for every add on and it came out to just under 10 bucks. This app does everything. Uses the word in a sentence to help you understand the meaning, breaks the whole word down, and so much more Absolutely love this app!!!!!

Sadly it's been abandoned by developer. I LOVE this app and paid for the premium edition. I use it almost hourly. For some reason they have not updated it in a long, long time. I have been getting pop-ups that it will no longer work with the latest iOS for a long time. I contacted the developer and they have been updating their iPhone app but not the iPad. They suggested I install the iPhone edition on my iPad. Duh, that's not possible. So I'll hang on a few more weeks and then delete it when iOS 11 comes out. It's really too bad because it's a fantastic app. I gave it 3 stars but it would have been 5 if they had continued to update it.

Writer. I use this dictionary app all the time while I am writing. I think writers must be the worse spellers of them all . Or at least the most fussiest. I am not sure which. But this app is a life saver when it comes to finding the right word to use in a nano second . I can stop Writing pop down to the dictionary type in the word find out what I need and continue writing.

My Favorite Language Resource. Over the years I've literally bought a dozen dictionary apps, including a highly rated unabridged version for $29. But this is the only one that's on my phone and iPad. It has everything I need in one package. It's interface is clean and simple to use, it's fast, it has a huge vocabulary, it's fully functional offline (except for audio pronunciations), it's regularly updated, it never crashes, and it's expandable. Using in-app purchases you can add additional features such as example sentences, grammar tips, medical dictionary, and more. This is definitely a keeper.

Amazing app, but needs a little improvement.. I am a language lover and this is one of the best dictionary/thesaurus apps I have ever used. I can't live without it and couldn't be happier—until I go offline and begin to languish without those precious example sentences. I also own a NEW iPad with Retina display, and I believe this app is in dire need of Retina support just because it's too good to allow such unreasonable omissions. So, please give us offline example sentences and Retina support—many will go crazy with joy if you do!

Word Perfect. I love this app! The free version was fine, but the ads were distracting when trying to read. I love the trivia and word for the day. It is great fun to see words referenced in my neighborhood. $5 is ok, would rather pay less, but who wouldn't? I have spent more on dictionaries thru college and raising two kids. The thesaurus is an amazing bonus. I remember the days of writing term papers with two big heavy books to reference. Thanks for all your hard work! P.S. Favorite words from the free app don't transfer automatically transfer into the new. Write them down.

It's an excellent app but for one minor issue. I was listening to iHeart Radio WHILE looking up words in this dictionary. I decided to listen to the pronunciation of a word I had up on the screen. The radio muted (as I had expected)... But after the app pronounced the word, there was....SILENCE!! It did not bring back the radio program I was listening to!!!!... And now whenever I bring up this dictionary it silences my radio program!!! Even before I have a chance to ask for pronouncing anything!! So now I cannot listen to iHeart program while using this dictionary. I'm not even going to try to listen to I-tunes while using THIS app

Awesome. This app is awesome. I love the "Word of the Day" that I elected (optional) to alert me every morning-- I learn a new word 100% of the days, and they are actually useful words to work into your conversations / writing It also allows you to review the previous daily "Word of the Day"s to help with retention. I consider myself well educated, and I FORMERLY thought that I had a pretty vast vocabulary...Oh well... This app will take care of making the latter thought true, indeed! After all, the gradual 'accretion' of knowledge is the way to go... Accretion being one of the daily words a couple weeks ago... See? Get it- it's well worth the money.

OK. This is an OK dictionary. The inclusion of etymologies is a bit spotty, though. For instance, "anticipate" has one, "participate" inexplicably does not. The app feels very "lean start-up" lame, where everything is always in some state of disrepair, being fixed, yes, but also always being screwed up, too. I can't wait until getting things right is valued over new! new! new! again. Also, this dictionary will hassle you incessantly to add more and more in-app purchases. It never quite feels like a purchased app, but a sale-in-progress.

Truly a MUST HAVE app!!!. I rely DAILY on this APP for everything I do on my iPad. I read several news magazines and books, and am always running across words I want/need exact definitions of. This wonderful APP is excellent and worth the small price charged for the upgraded version which allows you to select which features you want. Highly recommend this excellent APP as the perfect on the go reference tool!!!

Tapping on the Word of the Day crashes the app!. Needs a fix!

Why Is This Not A Universal App?. I greatly dislike being charged $5 for this app and then being expected to pay an additional $3 for the very same product for my iPhone. I am not complaining about paying for the ad-free version, but in this day and age of the universal app, I am very unhappy that if I want this app on my iPhone--and I do--I am going to have to shell out an additional $3--which I will not do. I also agree with other reviewers and do not like the additional in-app charges for voice-to-text searches. The fact I decided to purchase this app is very unusual for me because anytime I see "Top In-App Purchases," I normally move along without bothering to read about the product, the reviews, etc., and I buy something else that does not have any add-on charges. I would MUCH rather pay a fair price up front for a complete product as opposed to feeling like I am being nickeled and dimed for all manner of add-on feature charges. The in-app purchases have gotten way out of hand and they need to stop. Charge what the app is worth and be done with it.

Almost, almost. The content is excellent. There are a few areas I wish had been done differently (better, to my mind) though. I wish that the program had a true browse mode. As soon as one commits to a word, the search is over, with no convenient access to nearby words. Second, the search text field is cleared when it gets keyboard focus - a decision which creates extra work for me more frequently than it saves me time. The text box includes a "clear" widget; let me choose when to use it. A small matter, but a constant annoyance. Lastly, the app uses only the Random House phonetic representation scheme, rather than a more-useful and precise IPA encoding. The former is most useful if the reader is already firmly grounded in the pronunciation patterns of American English. An IPA representation allows an educated user to arrive at a close approximation of a standard pronunciation, regardless of his or her native language. Several dictionaries allow the user to choose among phonetic representations; I wish that this functionality might be added to this app. Overall, however, the ability to have a dictionary of this quality in one's pocket - free, or for a trivial cost - is wonderful. The only reason I've given this a 4-star review instead of a 5 is a hope that it may catch the developers' attentions. For the rest of you, buy it! Its strengths far, far outweigh its weaknesses.

Probably My Favorite App!. Being old enough to have had to spend most of my life having to rely on a paper dictionary, forgetting words I want to look up before I got to one, this app is a joy. I love the "word of the day" which is improving my diminishing vocabulary. We use so many fewer words to communicate these days. It's as if we speak shorthand. People are starting to talk like they text. Words are powerful.

Expensive! Could be easier to navigate.. You would think these geniuses could figure out how to STOP bugging you to upgrade every time you open the app. If you really enjoy being annoyed by sales bombardments you will love this paid version app. I have purchased ALL (notice, read closely: ALL) of the "add-ons" and it STILL keeps bugging me to buy them and upgrade EVERY TIME I open the app. This gets really annoying! ----------- The full content of the app ends up at $20 +/- so don't think $5 gets it all - it doesn't. I feel it is challenging to navigate through the app. You really can't browse the way "you" may want... You have to know up front a word or encyclopedic entry to enter in the search box. Frequently it will say "no definition available" but if you change a word around it will take you to a different section with some content. For a $20+ dollar app browsing should be EASY. Why can't I just go to the encyclopedia and browse? The same is true for the science or medical "upgrades". I guess the developer of this app helps prove that digital is not always better than paper.

Very useful but some basic features don't work. This is a very useful app, but some basic features simply don't work - which reduces the value you get out of it. For e.g. the Word of the Day appears in Notifications which is nice, but when you 'select' it from the Notifications - you're taken to a view in the app that does NOT bring up the full definition of the word. Instead, it just opens the app to the definition of the last word you were viewing - which makes the whole Word of the Day feature in Notifications pretty useless. And this is in the paid version of the app. There are similar little glitches, incomplete features in the app. The UI is mediocre at best. For a paid app - it falls short. Its still worth it if you're a word buff, and like or need to look up word definitions, synonyms etc. frequently. Not as useful as it could really be, which is a bit of a shame.

Excellent Dictionary App. I tried the trial version and was immediately impressed. I purchased the full version only after a day of use. I have to admit I use this dictionary app at least once a day. It very nice to know that I have access to a off line dictionary of such quality. There are many people who claim that certain apps are must haves, but in this case I think everyone who either writes or reads should have access to a dictionary and this is a good start.

Home screen app. I started using the dictionary app to improve what I thought was a decent vocabulary and got far more than I bargained for. I use thesaurus with both business and personal emails to make concise points and word history to better use words I didn't use quite correctly. I think our schools need to start a 'word for the day' program to overcome what passes for literacy in our text obsessed world!

Wordsmith fun. Oddly, I find I'm enjoying the daily word on my ipad most of all. I am startled every few weeks by a completely unknown word (that is, without some special technical meaning), and enjoy reading up on the word's etiology. And the occasional essays I have time to read on the various vagaries of the English language history (bit like a mental coffee break). Convenient, of course, for double-checking spelling, usage, thesaurus, etc.

Most useful & effective dictionary. I appreciate the efficient, well-written and real-world, current definitions with satisfactory descriptions, while still including older definitions, the helpful pronunciation audio, and the word's origins (discipline, culture), function and evolving meaning and usage, since the meaning and usage of many words are not narrow or static. Some entries include a meaningful explanation on differentiating the entry word from similar or neighboring words where common mistakes are made, providing better boundaries between (or among) such words. Most dictionaries still rely on old, rigid definitions with limited examples, failing to stay updated on a word's usage.

We have both American AND British English!. For a premium dictionary that includes all kinds of upgrades, there is no such thing that I can distinguish the differences between American and British English. Most ordinary gives spells for both NAmE and BrE, like Oxford. In this dictionary, they mixes them all up that I can't tell which is the one! When I listen to the pronunciation, it will be "xxx OR xxx" . There's not even a switch button (unless I neglected it), which is highly dangerous for a English learner whose accents are yet to be settled. The other aspects are perfect and flawless. Please give obvious notifications on these differences! Thanks for your good work!

Good dictionary but are the example sentences supposed to be totally nonsensical?. Good dictionary. Seems to have most, if not all, of the strange new words that come up when I play Scrabble against the CPU or a more erudite opponent. But where do they get those examples of how to use these words in a sentence? Is a computer, or someone who doesn't speak English, or both, writing them? Or are they deliberate non-sequiturs, presented for humorous effect? For example, seif is a defined as a long, narrow sand dune that runs parallel to the prevailing wind. The sample sentence says "seif talks a good story, but it's sometimes far from the truth" (or words to that effect - I haven't learned to type a rating while looking right at the text in question on an iPad). Huh? Not something that would make sense, like "Abdullah sat quietly on his camel, savoring the sight of the thousands of seifs flowing gently in the direction of home" or "Lost in the Sahara after her plane crashed, Mabel walked into the wind along the ridge of the seifs, hoping to come to the ocean eventually", or . . .

Politicized garbage. Just give me the definition, not your liberal right wing extreme interpretation. Is nothing sacred?

Any plans to return word origins, etymology?. What happened? It was a great feature.

WORTHLESS.. DO NOT BUY. TWO DIFFERENT APPS FOR IPHONE IPAD .. DOESN'T SYNC .. VOLUME ON IPAD APP DOESN'T WORK RIGHT .. WORTHLESS.

Indispensable app. Was skeptical at first glance, but now I'm kicking myself for not purchasing sooner. No matter what profession or grade level currently attended, this tool is almost guaranteed to sharpen your game. Just keep on hand when reading to instantly translate any jargon that was previously rocket science to you. Also easily increase your vocabulary 3 fold with a thesaurus that's just a flick away, 10-30 synonyms and antonyms for each word searched and a VoiceOver pronouncing each word properly as not to get in over your head when politicking with the big dogs so to speak. Lol. Finally a way to transform modern technology into wondrous learning tool.

Good, but multiple purchases?. Okay, as a dictionary/thesaurus, etc., this is a great app. I used the free for years without issues before upgrading to the full app. But, why do I have to buy it more than once? I have it on my iPad, so why do I have to purchase it again for my iPhone? This is the only app I have that works like that, all others allow you to share among devices. Makes me wonder when I upgrade to a new iPad if I will have to buy it again.

Not just helpful – A MUST HAVE. The dictionary itself is quite helpful, but it is the entire package that I find a MUST-HAVE APP. There is nothing I have not been able to find. I would definitely buy the ENITRE PACKAGE, NOT JUST THE DICTIONARY. Great app for those who write because you can find synonyms, antonyms, find a rhyme to anything, make sure you are pronouncing the word correctly. Ever have an idiom at the tip of your tongue and can't remember? You can find it here. Not only is it incredibly useful, but it has these great segments that I find myself reading for up to an hour. From lists such as 10 different ways to say thank you, articles on words & their origin and so much other interesting stuff I can't even remember all of it while I write this review. There have been many times when my husband enters the room and asks what I am reading. It took a while, but he no longer looks at me like I am crazy when I say I am reading my dictionary.

Educationally stimulating. You can tell a lot about a person by there command of the English language and this is by far a superb application for expanding your vocabulary, finding the perfect word, anything having to do with word usuage, both in college and in life. It's very inexpensive, yet very if not more complete than other programs that do try to do the same thing. I recommend it for all ages. Dr. D.

Good but could be better. The app (Premium) is good, one of the better dictionary apps out there. The audible pronunciation is really a plus and unlike some other apps, it is itself -audible- and not muffled. The biggest downfall in my view, is that it doesn't let you sync your search history from one device to another through iCloud or some similar functionality; nor does it even let you print your search history to then try and combine under one list. One of the nicest parts of having a record of ones word-lookups, is the ability to then scroll back through and test yourself and review them all, to actually learn the word vs. just having it be an in-the-moment explanation. While the app keeps a list of "recent searches" on a per-device basis, combining them through some form of account sync would be better, since many folks use multiple devices these days. I've suggested it to "them" a number of times through the "contact us", but have not received any response (which is also disappointing customer-service in a paid application, although not uncommon).
