Excellent GRIB App. Couldn't be more pleased with this app. I needed grib weather files in the Bahamas and this app (along with BTC cell phone data cards) did the trick. Usually I find small annoyances in most app I buy but this app seems to have thought of every thing.

Well worth it.. Great app. I use it on an iPad and found it very convenient when cruising Med and Croatia recently. It is overlayed on a Google map type background. You can get GRIBs many ways but this is small in size, fast to download and cheap to buy. I love it. Tell your friends.

Vessel Master. I used this app in the Persian Gulf for months and it always gave accurate wind predictions for both velocity and direction. I've also used it on the US east coast and it works well here too. The map is simple to use: just size it to the region you want winds for and hit download. Click play once the file is loaded and watch the winds. Too easy. I use it every time I get underway.

Works Great. I use it for boating but it is useful for anyone that understands Grib files and wants to check the NOAA models.

Cruise planning. I use this app to plan cruises on my sailboat from Maine to North Carolina, but plan on using it to Florida and beyond. The combination of wind and sea state forecasts, along with the other information, is perfect in deciding when to depart especially due to the multi-day presentation.

Good source of info. I had a little trouble learning the app, but now it is a great source of weather info. We live on our sailboat and use this app daily to decide where to anchor next, or if we need to move. Only upgrade I can recommend is compressing data for Iridium use.

best predictive weather app!. we use Pocket GRIB for immediate, short & long term conditions of regattas (sailing races), navigation, hurricane information, wave height, wind speeds & also for general all around weather information. we also use PocketGrib as an indispensable tool when coaching & teaching sailors - 5 stars! side note: even though this app might look like it is not for everybody, PocketGrib makes it easy to use. it uses your requested meteorologic data via gridded binaries (GRIB) & displays this data in various forms, wind speed, wave height, rain, temperature...via maps, charts... take the time to play around with Pocket GRIB, learn it & you'll never go back to wimpy general use weather apps. :)

Easy to use!. Lots of useful info for the budding prognosticator/weather enthusiast.

The best. Used multiple sources while sailing up and down coast of california, got this app half way through a trip and found it to be easy to use and extremely accurate. I place more weight on this app than the others I use. Highly recommend.

Invaluable for boating!. I've used this app for almost 3 years now and rely on it so much I feel guilty I've never provided a review. I use this mainly for boating in the Upper Chesapeake. Power boating, not sail boating. In the upper bay both wind direction and wind speed play a role in how rough the water will be and I can use this app to show me when the tucking into a certain section of the bay or scooting into the Susquehanna River will find more protected waters at a given time.

Pocket GRIB. One of the best weather apps out there!! I'm a confirmed weather geek and have used a GRIB viewer program on a laptop for years. While this one is more limited than my PC version, the portability and speedy downloads due to the small file size required more than make up for the limited capabilities. Highly recommended.

WHAT AN APP. I use it almost every day and find it to be very accurate....I love it even more when we are sailing....I have several apps but this one helps me predict & forecast what to expect on the water.

So helpful so far. We have used pocket grub daily for route and timing planning. Only disappointment so far has been the lack of updated data for checking last minute before early morning departures . Otherwise easy to use, smooth animation and clear graphics.

Great App. This tool is very helpful for downloading weather anytime, anywhere. I love the flexibility of being able to look at large and small areas. It loads the gribs really quickly!

Best wind app... Period. I have four other wind prediction apps that i use mostly for BASE and power kiting. I never trust one but average out between all of them to make an educated guess. This app is the most accurate on average and is the easiest and most user friendly. If you get one wind app this is the only one to consider.

Pocket Gribb. We have used this in conjunction with NOAA weather and it has been pretty accurate when checked with current conditions. I would caution as it is only good out about 36-48 hours.

Rocks!. At last! An App for Kiteboarders that allows accurate advanced planning for those perfect riding days. Thank You! Perfect in execution and simplicity. 5-stars! I have already paid for the App in saved fuel.

First app I check. This app gives so much info with a very simple display. This is the first app I check when deciding when to take the boat out. While I am on the water I make it part of my routine to check the app to see what to expect in the following hours and days. This is one of my must have apps to go sailing with.

Essential tool for cruising and deliveries. I have been using the app off and on for about 4 months for planning and during cruises and deliveries. I am pleased with the ease of use and have not found significant discrepancies in the forecasting ( which I do find in NOAA forecasts and other sources ). A GREAT app!. This does a wonderful job of displaying the weather forecast hour by hour. While it is designed for sailors with low bandwidth high cost communications it also works those of of with cheap hi bandwidth networks on land.

Fair winds and a following breeze. This app really gives me the details I am looking for when the forecast is vague... Especially where and when the weather will be worst or best... I like the wind forecast best to pick my sailing times and direction... Fair winds and a following breeze.

S/v Africa. GRIB is ideal for bringing small amounts of data sown on low bandwidth communication lines. This app manages that beautifully. Several different ways of viewing data is really useful and the ability to bring down data for just the specific area of interest keeps the download size minimal.

Captain Dot. My husband and I use Pocket Grib on both iPhone and iPad. It helped us enormously just yesterday with the timing of wind changes associated with a gale force cold front, enabling us to navigate to a safe harbor in time. We use it all the time. Easy to use, don't set sail without it!

Clay. I have been using grib programs for years; this is by far the best one I have ever used and it is very simple and straightforward. It provides loads of information. I would rate it right at the top of the whole category of weather apps.

Unique and powerful. Down loading the graphed forecast data is extremely valuable . How do you collect the raw data? The wind map is also great, same question. With my weather station I find the prediction good to fair. Improve the graph graphics, could expand ? Keep up the great work. The biometric pressure graph is a WOW. My first choice for forecast . What is the red line.? Put time on top and bottom.

I am a sailor, this app really works for me. Spend a little time learning the features and this app will become your first choice for passage planning. You will find that you can minimize the download file size by selecting the area you are interested in, the parameters you want to see, and the number of days that are of interest.

If only the Mac had a GRIB viewer this good. I can't imagine sailing without this program. It works so intuitively I don't even think about using it, I just do & get to concentrate on the weather, not the program. GRIBs are amazing and this program allows me to be able to harness their power! Update 20 Feb 16 - We have been using PocketGrib as live aboard cruisers for almost 2 years now. My wife now has it on her iPhone, & I have it on my iPads & iPhone. We use it nearly every day, and can not imagine Cruising from Boston Harbor to Great Exuma Island without it! Our Lagoon 420's mast is over 65', so we can not use the ICW & must go offshore, where we sail for up to 7 days without sight of land. My only PocketGrib complaint is that I wish it would work with my GlobalStar 9000 Satellite Phone WiFi router, or even Iridium Go (although I don't yet have that). Then we could get the latest GRIBs into our PocketGrib when we are over 20 nm offshore & out of cell phone range. Since we are usually well beyond 20 nm offshore for most of our offshore cruise, getting the latest GRIBs into our PocketGrib would be very valuable to us as GRIBs become less accurate with age.

Landlubber former blue water sailor: A+. As a, regrettably, landlocked former blue water sailor; I became reliant on GRIB files and learned how to interpret them. Now I tire of the conflicting forecasts from local media and the myriad of wearer apps available. Seeing the data and formulating my own forecast gives me a better view into the weather window, but also reminds me that everything is open for interpretation. This app gives me exactly what I need to come to my own conclusions as well as provide quick guidance built-in. I also like using it to teach my 8 year-old son about the weather and how to look at projected data and how to interpret what he sees. Keep it up!

sailing with pocketgrib. We left Florida for the Bahamas Jan 2013 for our first out of the country winter cruise. The Bahama Telephone company (Batelco) offers spotty service around the islands. Using Pocketgrib for quick weather updates when we had a signal became very important to us. We found Pocketgrib to be essential. S/V Mardi Gras

Really good, easy to use app.. I have used this app for years. When I think about a passage I go here to check the conditions I will encounter. Easy to use. High on my list of really good apps.

Just what I've been looking for. I love photographing waterfalls….which means I need cloud cover, little to no rain, and calm winds. I also need to see far enough into the future to plan a trip. This app is perfect, gives me easy access to both a graph representation of what I'm interested in (well into the future) as well as an actual map with all the visuals you need to help make a good decision. Bravo!

A quick and real beneficial guide. From its initial guise this app has developed well. I use it constantly whether on land or at sea. It is a quick view into trends and indications. Graphics are clear. Regional downloads quick simple and efficient. The add on also help to give information to users. I have been very pleased with this app from the start and it continues to develop well.

Essential for cruisers!. My wife and I are currently sailing our boat on the Pacific Coast of Mexico and Central America. Whenever we have Wi-Fi available we download the gribs for the area we are in and use them to compare to some of the forecasts we get from other sources. Helps us plan our voyages. This is a great app and needs to be in your quiver of weather apps!

Every ocean sailor with an iPhone should have this app. This is a great tool to view weather forecast information from GRIB data. Easy to understand and well presented graphics. An advanced weather tool at a bargain price!

Excellent. I have used this for inland sailing (lake Tahoe) and found it to be accurate and easy to use. Cannot comment on ocean applications yet, although the interface seems to simply make grib files accessible and easy to use / translate into usable info. Pulls small files packed with info so bandwidth / data charges not a huge issue.

Best weather app to date. This is one amazing app! I frequent the inshore and off shore waters of the US east coast and this app far exceeds existing weather prediction tools I have found, in accuracy, ease of use, and most importantly to me, predicting wind speed direction by hour. I don't leave the dock without it.

John. I have used your regular Grip application for a few years now and find it very helpful. Of you could find a way to add a route onto the files that would help in planning a long passage. We are in Fiji now and planning a voyage to Hawaii and the ability to place a route or your files would be a great benefit. Thanks John

flybouys. Use this app all the time to predict sailing conditions. Has been accurate several days out helping with future sail plans. Do miss the Google maps for the weather overlays, but the data is still very good.

PocketGrib. About the best long range weather forecast I’ve ever used I would say 90 percent accurate Forty plus years on the North Atlantic

One of the best .... I sail the sea of Cortez and have tried many different apps for reading Grib files. This is one of the best. I would love to see this ported to Windows though. Thanks for an excellent program!

Great app. Update: App keeps getting better! Like the alternate models, although GFS still my favorite. Tried some other grib apps but this one works best for me. A little bit easier/quicker access to parameter options is all it needs. Developer has been great in answering my questions too. PocketGrib is a great app for anyone interested in weather and weather forecasting , NOT just boaters. Lots of info presented in a user friendly manner. Highly recommended.

Super app. Simple and fantastic. Mark an area on a chart. Download. Couldn't be easier. Standard GRIB format. Move cursor to a spot and gives more detailed data. Data refresh fast.

Perfect grib app. This app is exactly what we've been looking for. You can download directly from NOAA so no cumbersome downloading to email and then saving and opening. We've been looking for a weather app with the surface isobar prog charts and this app has it. It's easy to use and highly intuitive. Easily accessible onscreen buttons for every bit of info you want. Great app I plan my field work by. I do a lot of night time boat work where I need conditions of 12-20 knot winds, cloud cover and high humidity or rain/snow so this app helps me plan my nights out. It has been quite accurate in its forecasts including wind direction. I think it is a 4 1/2 star app already but I'd give it five stars if they added a link to see actual current weather conditions for an area. All in all a great app I rely on heavily.

Simple and accurate. While other apps may be more graphic and engaging, I like the simplicity of PocketGrib. Nothing tricky...just the data I need.

Pocket Grib. My wife and I have just completed a 10 week cruise from the Chesapeake Bay to Maine and back. Although we had the NOAA weather broadcasts and other sources of weather data, Pocket Grib was our primary source for weather forecasting. It was generally "spot on" with its forecast and the display is elegant. A terrific amount of data in an easy to understand format.

Superb. Excellent tool for plotting your sail, local forecasts don't have the same detail. I find that the GRIB reflects the real conditions very well, often the local forecast can be way out on wind strengths.

Excellent. It would be even better if you could plot your position (of the boat) projected for the next 1 2 3 days so that you will easily see the weather conditions during a crossing. But very satisfied.

oops. looks like it is the business, but, well, it crashes when ever I try to use it... cannot find out how to set my "home" location... long time since Australian yachities looked to Portsmouth for guidance... and the support site URL shows nothing but a blank page ! Me thinks there be some problems here... anyone have any experience and or solutions ??

Finally.... Amongst the plethora of weather apps someone has finally written a sensible one for those of us who spend our time outside, and particularly on the water. This has quickly become indispensable for me as I move my yacht up and down the east coast.

Pocket grib. A clear visual representation of predicted wind for the next few days makes day sails or short passages much easier to plan with confidence.

A simple and bulletproof app. I have used this all summer cruising in The Baltic and arctic Norway. I have found it excellent for cruise planning, weather routing and also for reading iridium-downloaded gribs.

Excellent. Excellent for maritime coastal weather watchers such as boaties and possibly surfos. As a sailor I wouldn't be without it. I might add that support for the App is outstanding and prompt.

Awesome. If you have any desire to know what the winds going to be doing this is the app! Very accurate and gives play by play of wind speed & direction along with much more data. I use it to advise marine users of potential winds over next 48 hrs. It is important that we issue the correct information to the port users as it may affect the safety. We have in the past always compare PocketGrib with other PC Web based links and PocketGrib provides the great accuracy ! Great tool to add to your cache!

Weather for the mariner.. I have used 'pocketgrib' now for two years. I still copy gribs when deep sea via the HAM network and fax charts from Norfolk Virginia. However when coastal and can get 3G or internet, 'pocketgrib' is great. Also last year was able to copy gribs on a daily basis and guide a solo transatlantic sailor around the worst of the weather by e-mailing the reports to him by HAM radio. The last part of his trip was threatened by Hurricane Albert and entering the Gulf Stream was a nightmare for him. However with 'pocketgrib' files I was able to give him considerably more info than he could get himself on board his yacht. As a pilot I also use 'pocketgrib' to supplement weather information from environment Canada and other sources when planning flights. The ability to pick any area of the world and get forecasts is fantastic. I sailed around the word in 1974-1979 using but a sextant and timepiece. My how the world has changed for the mariner and aviator. GPS and 'pocketgrib' have made both pursuits safer and easier. Thank you Pocketgrib! Chris Law. Cape Breton Island, NS. Canada.

The best. As a Yacht Captain I rely on this app to get all the weather forecasting I need to predict the possibility of safe passages.

phenomenal app!. The developer has always been very responsive, and the app has helped better target possible severe storms for me a lot. Highly recommend this app if you want a detailed idea of what the weather might be up to!

Excellent App for sailors. My husband and I are sailing around the world and halfway round we discovered Pocket GRIBBs. They so user friendly and accurate. The visuals are easy to see and to understand. We now use them whenever we have wifi. They will help us get around the Cape of Good Hope safely.

Maybe the best GRIB file viewer yet.. I like Pocket Grib as it displays all the information, especially winds & waves at the same time. It can be as detailed as you wish and you can scroll through the 5 (or 8) days with the same interval. It is simple to use and well worth the $8, which covers both your iPhone and iPad.

Stable and functional. App will open and display grib files ordered through Sailmail, provided the sailmail account is POP'd into the iPad mail app. One feature I would like to see is the ability to change the colours of the wind barbs. The current colours can be a little difficult to see. The monochrome setting works, but colours are nicer.

Great for Planning Hiking Trips. Lets you see the weather in detail for a specific location. In my experience, it’s predictions are accurate.

Fairly accurate. I started using during our trip from Florida to the Bahamas. Accurate about 85% of the time.

Best pocket forecaster!. This the best tool that I have now for quick reference forecast data. Would love to see more layers available and winds aloft.

Smerc. I'm not sure what has happened to this app, but grib files are no longer available for download using the map. An error message indicates that the server is no longer available. The email address is not current. All attempts to contact the app owner have been aborted. NOT A DEPENDABLE APP!!!

No nonsence. I download the latest file almost every time i go sailing.

Pocket Grib. I am looking at it now and it shows 5-10 at the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge. It's blowing 25-30 and has been all after noon.

A must for offshore. Would like to see waves as well, for that I need to use passageweather on my notebook. Otherwise, excellent app

Weather forecasting for grown-ups. Simple but excellent app, with synoptic charts that let sailors and people who grew up with TV forecasts before they got dumbed-down understand what is happening to the weather.

Wildlife Artist. Great for waterfowl hunting! Helps to see swings in the jet steam. Waterfowl use it like a supper highway. Knowing exactly when the wind is going to shift can save your life! Worth the money!

Great app. I used this app regularly during our just completed six month cruise to the Bahamas. Very helpful in planning our passages, especially our overnight passages along the SE USA coast.

Ocean weather. Just returned from 4 days offshore. Caught every wind shift on the nose. This app is brilliant!!!
