My favorite news outlet. Being a German in the USA this is still my go to news source.

No online support after cookie problem. After the app changed settings and needed support for cookie settings, I cannot access the app anymore for free. One minute to the next the app didn’t work anymore. The given tutorials only referred to online browsers such as chrome, but not to the iOS app itself. Emailed support and they sent an automatic reply saying they could not help me - without even looking at the email. Will use another news app from now on!

Old version was better. I do not like that the app is not always starting new at the top when opening. Is there a refresh button. I like the headline option. I do not like that I can not see reader comments at the bottom of articles.

German language. This app helps me with the German language. I very much appreciate it as well as reading the stories. Thank you

The Spiegel - a mirror for Germany. ….what a terrible app! It takes ages to load downloaded magazines, no bookmarking functionality, the UI all over the shop. Seriously, this is the epitome of a failing Germany - old school, over-engineered, ‘komplett am Nutzer vorbei’. Take a look at the Financial Times app and you may find some urgently needed inspiration. Your developers need to be replaced asap.

First Class News & Reporting!. ‘Spiegel’ is one of the most respected & reliable German news media!

Language. I have no idea how to change the language from German to English. I tried to google translate my way around it but it just didn’t work. I also tried to contact them and it also didn’t work.

Great content, but soon all of it will be behind the paywall, at exorbitant fees. To me, Der Spiegel is one of the most balanced German new publications. I’d be willing to pay for it, but not hundreds of dollars a year, so I’m forced to just read the free content. That will soon be reduced to nothing as more and more of the meaningful content is high pay only.

Great app for a great news magazine. I really appreciate the app allowing me to continue staying in touch with Germany and the world. Der Spiegel is vastly superior to most US publications in regards to international news as well as German news.

Font. The headlines (font size) are ok. However the font of the text is too small even though my setting on my iPad is on large. Other papers NYT, WP etc. are better legible

Using (reading) it several times a day.. Especially in these dark days in the US, this app gives me the look from the outside in. Unfortunately, the most recent version doesn’t load the whole front page again after I read an article or two. Please fix it!

Great for learning German news. I use this to stay on top of rGerman news and learn vocabulary.

A Good Insight into world affairs. The app allows me access to a solid European perspective both on America and works affairs. Of course Der Spiegel is in German so a decent understanding of the language is needed as one would expect with regard to any media outside the English-speaking world.

Short insightful stories of European and global relevance -not boilerplate news yet looking at human stories that will impact the trajectory of the pandemic, migration, perspective on human isolation and “Ausgrenzung “ Wonderful light stories from diverse journalists: such as food stories.

Deutscher Spiegel. Since I barely have a chance to speak/read in German , I enjoy your magazine very much, besides of Frankfurter Rundschau and FAZ. (I am from Frankfurt.) Your reporting is straight to the point, as has always been, and it gives me the opportunity to monitor the general European response to the ongoing unrest in the US. Keep it up!

App good, new SPIEGEL online design 3 steps back. The new SPIEGEL design is a huge step backwards - looks like the print magazine and like stuck in the 90s. Ugly orange and old fashioned fonts everyone. Not the SPIEGEL online you’re used to. More like the Focus or Bild than a serious and qualitative online news site.

Football. Basically all football (soccer) news all the time. Currently the first four headlines about football. Even though there is a little problem with corona. Sometimes the first 5,6 or even up to 10 first headlines about football only. Embarrassing.

English support?. Is there support for English in this app? There is online in Safari but I can't seem to change it in-app.

Easy to use reliable news. Love the Spiegel App that allows me to access reliable news from my iPhone.

Accurate and independent information. Fast. Strong point of view.. Premium news outlet. Focus on international and German issues.

App crashes continuously. I’ve been using this app for a long time with very good experience but in recent days the app does not work as expected. After clicking an article the app appears to reload the page continuously, pages turn white and it is painful to read a single article. Please fix immediately!!

Terrible app. This is NOT about content. Der SPIEGEL is one of the best news outlets there is. It’s about their new app. The old one provided a quick overview about the main news item. User friendliness, ability to navigate and quick access to the main news - all gone now. This new app is now one of many others, complex page with many categories that only show up if selected. In the old one they were seen when scrolling through. Old app got me to top new headline again when clicking on header. Not so any more. Big loss. Not using this much anymore. Quite a loss. I am not using it as often as I did. Was my go to news app first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening. Not any more.

Please fix the page loading and crashing issues. While the content is informative, the App for iPad is a disaster. Halfway through reading an article the page goes blank for now apparent reason. Going back from an article to the home page, often results in the same blank page. Please find app developers that know what they are doing. Looks like the competition could.

Waste of money. The new layout is horrible to navigate. Navigation is very confusing. The font style is a copy from PricewaterhouseCoopers’ standard layout. That was a true waste of money, I barely visit this website currently. Prior to the change I used this site multiple times every day. Instead I started using the websites of other agencies.

Very interesting app!. It’s important to keep up with the news around the world and Spiegel Online allows me to do just that, thank you!

Substantial improvement. The Spiegel is now faster and much easier to navigate than before the App update. Plus the design and graphics is now much spiffier. Some of my satisfaction may also have to with my biting the bullet and paying the monthly $20 for full access.

Video froze the app. Just to add to the previous comment. A video froze the app, I can’t exit nor watch as an error message is displayed. I can’t even delete and reload the app. What am I supposed to do? Buy a new mobile phone? Who can advise?

Verschlimmbessert. The German language has a word for what happened here: verschlimmbessern. It means trying to improve something but making it worse. The new app is so much worse than the old Spiegel app, which in my opinion was pretty close to perfection. The new app uses too many webviews (with Cookie dialogs and sign in prompts), is confusing to navigate (go back to content overview is on the right rather than the left) and does not feel like a native iOS app anymore. I wish I could still use the previous app, which was so good at the one thing it did: Offer the Spiegel magazine offline.

Login issues. I do not like the new layout. Looks antiquated and cheap. I also experience login issues with the SPIEGEL+ content. Always receive error messages. Web interface no problems - only the app.

Sport section 1*. Many sections are better, but It so difficult to switch from Bundesliga to Premiere League. The old pull-down menu was better.

Start the article in English, then all is in German!. I really miss the articles in english! The new format is frustrating, since you tease us first in english and then with one click we see only german on a page which appears to be a request for a subscription. Sorry, don’t read german. Bye bye

“Kiosk” App better. I pay for a SPIEGEL subscription and enjoyed reading the magazine in the old “Kiosk” app. The look & feel of the new app is way inferior to the old one. In addition, it seems many articles are missing (reading the PDF is not an option!) which was not the case in the old app. I am seriously thinking about cancelling my subscription.

Excellent coverage. I go to Spiegel Online first when I have a few minutes to read the news. Good headline news coverage as well as more in-depth articles and opinion pieces.

Always Informed. App works the way it should and brings me the latest national and international news.

Watch your data plan. This app downloads so much data over the cellular data network. It is not funny anymore. It is loading commercial videos so they get revenue. But now you’ll have to pay for all the data they need - not cool. Deleted.

Convenient, informative, viel Spaß. Good app for general news from German based news sources. Offers podcasts, audio segments and articles to read.

Gut gemacht!. Well put-together! I primarily use it to improve my German, but also to start to expand my exposure to news outside the US.

Just use the website this app is only a “wrapper”. I’m a subscriber and every time I open the app to have to enter my login details. There isn’t a bookmark feature or a history (most recent article read). I believe this app is just a “wrapper” a portal to the der Spiegel website. Better luck and usability simply reading on your laptop or via a web browser. (This is only a critique of the functions of the app, as news source Der Spiegel is a benchmark in German media. )

It’s in German. I used to use DER SPIEGEL English, they stopped supporting the app. There is still an English section I can read, but all buttons, instructions, and navigation are in German. On the bright side, my German is getting better.

Used to be better.... The last few versions have not removed but introduced bugs. Clicking on an article, reading it maybe half way, and it goes blank with no recovery... I think it has to do with ads loading/blocked by iOS as I have ad related issues with the web version too... it’s a shame, used to be my favorite news app

Well done. Great journalism, with often a brilliant perspective of (German) politics and beyond. It is also great that they get the balance right between a subscription and articles that are accessible in an advertised context. Well done!

Very good. This app has been massively improved. My only suggestion would be to make the 'previous and next' arrows a fair bit larger as, on an iPad or iPhone, a finger tap can easily miss them. Which, over time, is annoying.

Der SPIEGEL. It’s really interesting to read the long articles in the English section of Der SPIEGEL. The depth of the discussions is very informative and the subjects, particularly about the war in Ukraine present different perspectives from discussions in the press in Australia. It’s wonderful to read how supportive the Western countries are of the Ukrainian government and people.

New version repaired. All good again,

Layout. Das gesamte graphische Gefüge gefällt mir nicht mehr. Es erscheint unübersichtlich und gedrängt. Aber die Artikel sind wie immer gut.

5 Star Spiegel. Die App läuft rund und schnell. Sie ist angenehm für das Auge und übersichtlich.

Zeitgemäß??. Sieht leider nicht so toll aus...vor allem auf dem iPhone 6 plus. Andere newsapps haben die Zeichen der Zeit erkannt und umgestellt. Wann wird der Spiegel reagieren?

News and opinion from Germany. Der Spiegel is one of my go-to sources for world news. I love the updated app, even though there are some teething problems including delays in access to my subscription-paid content, which seems to have resolved itself despite no reply to my recent email /: keep up the great work.

SPIEGEL. The update made the whole SPIEGEL App 100 times worse than it was before

Fast perfekt. Alles prima, nutze die App jeden Tag. Ist meine Nabelschnur aus Australien nach Deutschland. Vermisse nur die Möglichkeit den Text oder Bilder zu zoomen. Braucht man aber nur selten. Schön wäre auch wenn das App Icon die Anzahl neuer Nachrichten anzeigen würde (wie bei einer Mailapp), z.b. Für bestimmte Resorts.

Too buggy. Ever since the major update, the app freezes frequently, load is slow and more recently entire pages turn white halfway through reading an article.

Lebenslange Zuverlässigkeit. DER SPIEGEL war wöchentliche Familienlektüre seit seinem ersten Erscheinen nach dem Krieg. Seit 1962 lese ich den SPIEGEL hier in Australien - zuerst zugeschickt von Muttern per Luftpost, dann via Laptop und heute runtergeladen per App. Ein breit gefächertes Angebot von Artikeln, Interviews und Berichten - sogar Essays auf Englisch. Journalismus der Spitzenklasse. In meinem Leben gehört DER SPIEGEL einfach dazu - besonders in Zeiten von fake news.

Echt unmöglich. Der Spiegel verarscht seine Leser. Auf einmal soll man noch zuzahlen, damit man sein Abonnement ohne zusätzliche Werbung sehen darf? Die Zusammenlegung des Magazins mit der Nachrichten-App ist nichtsweiter als ein übler Scherz auf Kosten der Leser, man soll sich wohl freuen, daß man das Magazin überhaupt noch lesen darf. Echt unmöglich.

Kein Fortschritt. Das Update gefällt mir nicht so gut, ist jetzt eher wie das Magazin und nicht so User freundlich wie es früher war.

Meist die Ersten mit neuen Nachrichten!. Auch ich lebe in Ottawa und Toronto, Kanada und bin zur Zeit in MERIDA Mexico. Spiegel on line ist die Nachrichten App, die oft die neusten Sachen aus Deutschland, Europa sowohl als auch der restlichen Welt als erste berichten. Das gilt auch für Nord Amerika, obwohl es hier eine Unmenge von Nachrichten Quellen gibt. Mir imponieren die vielen Einzelheiten die Spiegel berichtet die oft von anderen news Medien übersehen oder nicht gefunden werden. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, SPON! Die Welt braucht das!

Spiegel online is high quality journalism. HQ journalism in a inflationary world of misleading information streams and content. Neutral to inform and help to build an opinion. Biased also to Inform but clearly labeled as such. You don’t like the the advertisements, sign up for the paid version.

Very informative. The best info with regard to Germany News as well as news with regard to all of Europe. They even have sometimes info about North America which is not in any of our Canadian newspapers.

Der Spiegel rules.... Übersichtlich und intuitiv - und last not least informativ.

Meine Verbindung nach Hause. Die Spiegel App benutze ich täglich als mein direkter Draht nach Deutschland. Sie funktioniert ohne Macken und gibt mir Zugang zu allen wichtigen Nachrichten.

Neu ist nicht immer besser. Die alte App war besser. Bei der neuen finde ich es schwer zu den Inhalten zu kommen die mich interessieren. Vorher konnte man durch Scrollen schnell eine Übersicht bekommen. Jetzt muss man ins Menu um sich zu orientieren. Auch sind die Spiegel plus Artikel sehr störend. Wenn man nichts bezahlen will sind diese nur im Weg.

All in German. Unable to renew my subscription because all of the material is in German, no English anywhere except for the bits hype here. I get an English email that sends me to an all German page. Why don’t they know about this?!?!

Spiegel. First thing I read every morning. Our news here on the east coast is presented and served up as footnotes in sales flyers. Thank you and carry on.

Love it!. It does have a English section on the app and opens up in German but the English part is not hard it find. This app is long over do but it is really good

Disruptive Full Screen Ads. Update: Spiegel responded by removing full screen popups from the app. Spiegel recently introduced full screen ads that pop up when you try to read an article and are not easy to get rid of. The ads show up even for paid subscribers. It’s a terrible User experience and distracts from their otherwise good journalism. Stay away from the app and from paid subscriptions until that change has been reverted.

Beste Deutsche Nachrichten App. Sehr gut im Vergleich zu anderen Nachrichten Apps. Würde mir nur wünschen der Umfang an frei zugänglichen Artikeln würde nicht weiter schrumpfen

Gute App. Ich bin sehr froh dass ich mir diese App runtergeladen habe. Man bleibt durch sie immer auf dem neusten stand was besonders zu diesen Zeiten heute sehr wichtig ist.

Spiegel online. It's a great educational news magazine especially away from home . I use it on a daily base. The reports are usually written in a more sober way .The one big thing that is my complaint is the long unnecessary advertisement before I can watch a video clip That's bad

Audio and Login issues. When playing audio stories under SPIEGEL Plus, playback stops when the iPhone enters lock, making the feature I pay for unusable. In the past, this used to work. Also, why, as a subscriber, do I always have to login again, when I try to access SPIEGEL+? Please fix this! PS: workaround: use the SPIEGEL Kiosk app.

Ever shrinking availability of reading content!. SPIEGEL+ is taking over more and more! Very unfortunate.

Glitch. The site changed from English ( I do not speak German) to German however three is not a drop box on the site that I can use to get it back to news in English. If it continues I will have to cancel my subscription. Ron Strauss

From super app to worst new app. Why change a running system? The old app was exactly like the print issue and now it is totally chaotic, unstructured and user unfriendly - no longer fun to read. Really bad.

Missing the old app. New app is not online-user friendly, thinking about to remove it once and for all

It’s not in English. They claim that their app support English Language but the whole layout and buttons are all in German! Not to mention the content

Misleading Ratings. If one selects five stars in the app, one is prompted to rate on the App Store. If one selects a low rating in the app, one is prompted to send an email. That artificially inflates the App Store rating.

Terrible. Unfortunately this new format just reinforces that SPIEGEL is on the way down. Articles without relevance that should be - if at all presented - suddenly start the presentation, clumsy efforts to force you into payable content ... I only award one star as zero stars are not awardable. Really disappointed and partly disgusted.

Old one was better. Readabily, usability, design, all got worse

New App versus old ap. One problem are pictures. In the old app you could zoom into pictures. This is not possible with the new app.

New app design is not well readable. The new app design looks fresh, but I do not like the readability aspect of it. News are overloaded and the eye has too search much more now for relevant information. The previous app design was more sequential and easier to read.

getting worse every iteration. bad ui, pushing spiegel+ too much and cannot remove showing the paid news similar to the also bad apple news app.

Overtaken by Advertising. There are so many ads imbedded including those for paid content that the site very slowly loads and crashes.

Confusing design. Please rollback to the version before. This layout is nothing but utter chaos.
