“Can these guys do no wrong? Seriously, if only other app devs knew how to make apps as well as these guys, the world would be a better place. Or at least my device would be less buggy. I was just watching a Full HD copy of Avatar Extended Edition being streamed from my PC on my iPod Touch 2nd Generation and it looked and played amazingly.”
- UK Reviewer

“…it's as good as having the original VLC player on your iOS device…”
- CallingAllGeeks.org

“…Setup is a snap and literally takes 2 seconds. You can browse through all your movies from your device and click any one to start playing. It even works if you have the movies stored on a USB drive connected to the host computer.”
-The Times of India

“Took me seconds to setup to stream from a secondary drive in my home office. Going straight out to get a cable for my TV.”
- USA Reviewer

“….This sucker can stream off the pc and plays virtually anything you throw at it. Download it now!”

Works great with a few misgivings.. Okay , this app is great, 5 stars for that. Integration with your network is simple and quick. Converting files is not. On the fly one by one conversion works great unless you have a HEVC also known as x265 codec file. It chokes on them. What is HEVC/x265?? It’s the latest video codec that has better resolution at a much, much smaller video file than the standard x264. So all the files I have in x265 now must be converted to x264 by another app, creating a second copy of the file, also much larger, so I can stream with this app. Bummer. I hope a solution is close ‘cause otherwise, I really like this app!

Pretty near perfect.. I have a rather large video collection on my Mac, but I like to be able to sit in another room and be near the family when I’m relaxing. With VLC Streamer, I can sit anywhere in my house and stream videos from my Mac to my new iPad Mini over WiFI. If I want, I can also download vids for watching when not on my home WiFi LAN. I haven’t explored it all the way, so am not quite sure how to change the subtitles or voice tracks, and there doesn’t seem to be a specific playlist feature, but I can browse my library from the iPad with no issue. The helper app on the desktop works under El Capitan beta, and the iOS apps work on iOS 9 beta without a hitch. I would have been willing to pay twice as much for this app than I did. The dev is responsive to questions and very helpful, and he’s actively working on his apps. I have no doubt that this will only improve to be best-in-class in the near future.

Better better best. Been using this for a while and it just gets better.

FANTASTIC APP. I used the free version for five minutes and realized how great this app is so I purchased the paid version for only $2.99. I can sit outside and watch TV shows and movies that are on my computer. Instead of looking out my laptop, I simply stream them to my iPad. And added bonus is that I did not have to figure out how to use it. There are simple directions on each page. So I do not have to go looking for how to, for example, delete a movie. Rarely do I pay for an app. This one is so good that the author deserves the pittance he asks for it. Thank you so much.

Works smooth with MPEG4 files over Unifi WiFi.. I have a 1GB small 5port switch connected to a Ubiquity Unifi Pro access points. I have streamed 3 large movie files and works without a hiccup. Please note when I was using my WAN modem with built In WiFi provided by my ISP, it would be very inconsistent and to many crashes. It was once I invested in a unifi WiFi, that was life changing. I will try with other video formats and stress test it.

Old, Ugly and Outdated. The VLC Streamer does an injustice to the VLC name. Waste of time and money. Install the nPlayer app instead.

Does the job mostly. Not perfect, (needs automatic conversion retries and better mass-add ability.

Streaming in home network. Great for streaming home videos on your private home network. No delay and great video quality

Excellent!. This app is great works as described. I was amazed that you can stream dvds. Vic is so dependable on any platformm.

Museum app. App does not work as a standalone iOS VLC app. It requires a pc/mac host to function. Not even close to feature dense as the real free to download open source and buggy vlc player currently on the store.

Cannot load files or open them. This vlc is inscrutable on the ipad. I see none of the menus shown in the windows version. I cannot open files if i want to, unless the playvlc comes up for some for some reason i cannot figure out.

LOVE THIS APP!!!. If you're looking for a way to stream content from your PC to your tablet or phone then this is the app for you! Easy to use, tons of features and the ability to play back just about any file format that you can imagine. What more do you need! Download yours today. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

I would gladly pay 10X the price for this app!! LOVE IT!. Update: I still use this app after 5 years and it's still great. It's easy to use, works without a hitch, and the makers keep it up to date as every iOS update rolls out! I use lots of VLC files and the frustrating thing was that I had no way of taking them with me without toting along my laptop. Now, I can convert them, store them on my iPhone or iPad and have hours of great video to watch on long flights, or if I'm stuck on the train, etc. It's so easy to set up the app and the link to your PC that i was up and running in about 5 minutes. There is really nothing not to like about his app. If you already use VLC media player, and you travel or even want something to watch on your lunch break, this is the app! I can set several programs to convert and download to my iPhone/iPad and it converts and downloads in background in amazingly short amount of time and is ready to go.

Great app. Great app!

Worth Going Pro. I rarely spring for the pro version of any free app, even when cheap, but this one is totally deserving and worth it.

REMARKABLE AND EASY TO USE. VERY CONVENIENT AND EXCELLENT INSTRUCTIONS. SIMPLE FALL BACK FOR CONNECTING TO IPAD ETC. BY USING A SPECIFIC CONNECTION, AS EXPLAINED IN THE INSTRUCTIONS. I AM A LONG TIME USER.

excellent streamer for most file types, but.... Needs better zoom options for XS Max

Easy and free........ Good app. Best of all. It is free.

Has issues now. Never had an issue with the program until recently. Seems like it randomly drops from airplay with iPad Air to Apple TV. Tried it on multiple Apple TV's and tried the app on an iPhone as well and the airplay dropped.

Works.. Works.

One of my favorite apps!. Gotta love the VLC team. Great software that's continually updated and works. Pretty sure I have every app/software they make.

Replay, offline, take with me. I can study videos and not use data once the videos are on my phone. Great for playing kid sing-along videos

Multi format reader. No more itunes movies Paste into the program and watch Plays smoothly Nice program

Perfection. Couldn't ask for a better player.

Latest update is garbage. Crashes every time I try to play a movie. Looks like I’m not the only one.

Not streaming compatible. The only reason I installed this app was so I could stream from my pc to my chromecast using my phone. It doesn’t do that. I can’t see any reason to keep this app. Waste of money.

Customer Support is Non-responsive. Customer support won’t answer email. Frustrating app and service. When this streamer “converts” files to stream it creates a redundant file somewhere on the C: drive. This causes one movie to take up twice the amount of space. The reason we’re emailing them is to find out where the converted files are going, as we can’t find them other-than the “app-roaming” folder which seems like the converted files are stuck in limbo and can’t figure out why the streamer is doing this. Hobbyist Software will not respond to this issue via email.

Ok but with a flaw. I like this app but it does a very bad job streaming Windows Media Video files. The sound lags behind the video by several seconds. You see people moving their lips and the sound comes later on. This is very annoying. They don’t seem to want or can’t fix this bug cause I brought it to their attention a year ago.

Don’t waste money on the full version. Streaming videos in the free version was jittery. So I bought the full version so that I could download videos thinking the network was the cause. However the downloaded videos are also choppy. I have the New IPAD with the a10 processor. Very disappointed with the app.

Excellent!. I’ve used this app for a few years now and am still pleased. Love the simple interface and they offer great support. Thanks!

Router Settings. If you have hours to spend troubleshooting your firewall, router and PC it works great!

Seriously fantastic!. This is easily one of my favorite apps! I watch a lot of Korean television, but as my Korean is less than stellar, I need subtitles. Unfortunately, Viki and Dramafever can't really keep up with my insatiable appetite for more programming, so I download a lot of what they don't have available. Therein lies the problem. iPhone, Roku, PS3, none of them offer a streaming solution that will let me play .srt files so that I can have subs, at least not til this streamer came along! It's so hard to find hard subs cause fansubbers make an effort to shut down anyone who does them, so it's literally the only way I can watch my shows without being tied to the computer. My only complaint is, if my boyfriend has to shut down the computer for whatever reason, if it is in the middle of processing a file, you have to delete it and start over. Otherwise it's just stuck on processing forever.

Works great with Apple TV. If you have your movie collection in multiple formats the ideal thing to do would be to format them all for Apple TV (but keep your originals) but in the mean time while you never get around to that VLC Streamer is the app for you. Through the years I have collected a rather large movie collection. And as hard drive space became cheaper I began to make digital copies to keep on my hard drive. And through the years formats changed from one to another and I expect them to keep changing as hard drive space gets cheaper and playback methods improve. That's why VLC is so great it plays just about any format and with the streamer you log into your computer go to the hard drive you have your movies stored on and you pick out what you want to play and then tap the button to send the video to any of your apple tv's you have set up in your house. It works great. I don't remember what it cost but its worth every penny. In short it gives you the simplest way to access movies off any of your hard drives and play them back through Apple TV in any format. Or through iOS devices.

Crashes constantly since update. I’ve used VLC Streamer for years and it has worked great, aside from a recent crash issue that they resolved very quickly.

VLC Does It All. I really wish more programs, software, and applications were as simple to use and efficient as the VLC Media Player. These guys get it right. Just like the VLC for the computer, the application's ability to handle any type of video file makes it one of my most frequently used applications. The application is much more effective and easier to navigate than the AirVideo I was using before, which has since been stripped of its place on my iPad. VLC allows you to choose between several settings between low and high for both bandwidth and resolution, meaning that the Streamer gets to decide whether picture quality outweighs the extended wait for your video to begin. I love that feature because any file can be streamed very quickly and browse through with ease once the Streamer has had a chance to get through the whole thing. I generally put the settings to high, click watch, and let them load for a while so I can come back and watch a streaming video with perfect picture quality. Really a great product!!! P2E

Great video player. Does really well playing formats that the hardware isn't necessarily designed for.

Crashes constantly when trying to search for videos. This is happening on iPad and iPhone. Is there a limit to the number of files it can handle? I have about 450 on my system, mostly just tv shows and short clips (only a handful of feature length movies). I can’t even search for them right now without crashing the program- most perplexing is that I have installed on 2 different devices (iPhone 7plus and iPad Air 2) and same thing is happening on both. When it works the videos play fine - but I have manually scroll through my entire list to find things, any searching or tagging is impossible right now, crashes every time. :(

Transcends all other Apps!. In so many categories, this app redefines greatness. I don’t know if you already have a good way to play your video library (all formats and codecs) on the iPods/iPhones/iPad, but you should check out “VLC Streamer”. When you first launch it, it will link you to a little helper installer for the PC or Mac that you must download and install. This will let you browse all of your drives contents and queue movies for streaming to the Apple iOS devices. You should run that on the PC with the fastest processor, even if it isn’t actually hosting the video files(it just needs to have a drive mapped to the video files). Then you just launch the iOS App, pick a movie and bingo! Its really awesome. Instant access to any video file on your network. It can even download it to your device for watching away from home once the stream conversion is finished. The add-free version is $1.99 – definitely worth it. This might make handbrake obsolete!

Absolutely brilliant. This is hands down the easiest video streaming solution, period. The app I always believed could exist. Streams my .wtv HTPC recordings on the fly with no pre transcoding needed. iPad + VLC + Vogels wall mount + treadmill + whatever show I recorded last week that needs catching up on = FTW! Would have given 5 stars but it needs to do a better job of buffering. Playback is mostly flawless and some pausing is understandable over two wireless hops, but when it gets bad it should adapt and just buffer longer before trying to resume playback. Also, if you pause long enough for the iPad to sleep it forgets where you were on playback and you have to use the scrub control to try and find where you left off. That said, Setup was a snap, the interface is easy and intuitive. Again, absolutely brilliant. So glad I found this before I pulled the trigger on another solution to get my windows recorded T.V. on iPad.

Takes forever to convert video files. I’ve been waiting 2-3 hours already to convert the videos on my laptop so I can play them on my iPad.

VLC app. This is a wonderful little app. I can walk anywhere in the house with my iPad while watching a movie. The only problem I have with this app is that it loses wifi contact once in a while and I have to shut my computer down and restart to get the app back online. It doesn't happen very often but when it does happen it is annoying. Also I can’t find anywhere but I can add subtitles , I have a few movies that I need subtitles floor . I would give this app four and a half stars, out of five stars.

Wish I found this earlier!. Still a 4.5-5 star app. Just love having access to my movies on my Mac on my iPad and iPhone. Since the latest (and crappy iOS update) I do have some occasional problems starting movies. They Queue up but don't start. It's usually when I'm in bed on the second floor of my house so maybe it's just a connection issue but I do have the best that Comcast has to offer. Just curious if others have run into this? Sometime restarting my iPad or deleting and restarting the movie does work. What an amazing app! I've been continuously watching the same 6 movies I've bought from iTunes on my iPad before I go to bed or HBOGO. This allows me to access my full library of movies on my computer's HD. Just for fun I tried to stream from three different devices simultaneously and it worked perfectly! What a bargain at $1.99. I've been a fan of the VLC player for years now and this just adds to my adoration ten fold!

Stands the test of time. Bought it 3-4 years ago and still use it quite regularly. Added features like support for Apple TV have made it great for all around connectivity.

Do more now. Nice player, however because it doesn’t have play next, it bring down this player. Would also be nice keep resume when the player is power off instead of going back to the group list. In side of group list can’t determine last video played. Nice player, need work to be great. Rickey

Great addition for a htpc. I primarily use this to stream tv shows I record on my windows 7 media center pc. I record shows from CBS which I can't play on my iPad due to the whole flash thing not being supported. But, WMC records it and then my vlc streamer app is used to convert and stream it to the iPad. Watching tv in bed or anywhere in the house on wifi is convenient. My movies are also now available from the htpc as well making my iPad all the more fun to have. I do suggest strongly you try setting up the free version of this first. Do understand there are technical requirements to getting this all to work including having a pc with disk space, processing power, and of course source media to work with. There is a lot of help on the forums but if you are not technically inclined, have a decent wifi router, or can comprehend how to set this up you may want to skip it.

Great app!. You need this. Don't be cheap. Pay for the full version. It's more than worth it.

Crashing. App crashing after update.

Great App!!. I use this to transfer files normally on my Pc to my iPad and I can take them look at them where ever I want!

Still the best, if sometimes flawed. This is the best streaming app in terms of functionality I’ve found on iPhone. GoodPlayer, “real” VLC, etc have interesting features and potentially easier setup but get bogged down with weird buffering problems, or bizarre interface choices. VLC streamer works way more often than others and it has great interface customization Search can be a bit iffy if your library gets large, but the tagging system is solid. Would love to see search work with larger libraries (or for the keyboard to dismiss reliably) but again it’s a trivial problem. The need to preprocess videos is a small price for them to reliably work on the phone and the access control via a simple password is helpful. Bottom line: it works!

Only bought it to thank developers. I’m a grandma. I believe Techno-dinosaur is the correct term. I don’t know what this app does but I bought it to thank the developers for all the times I’ve enjoyed using vlc. I’ll ask my seven year old grandson to show me how to use it.

Enjoy. I have been using this app since early 2011 and it works great. Sure there has been some little issues which gets addressed in the updates, but nothing that has stopped me enjoying watching movies in bed on the couch in the car etc, this we also use to watch movies on our apple tv. Anyone that complains about this app needs their head read.

Won’t stop crashing. Please fix !!!!

Downloaded movies no longer play. I loved this app until recently when movies downloaded to my iPad 1 stopped working. When I attempt to play a downloaded movie it shows continuous buffering. Has something changed with the latest update ? I hope that a fix will be found soon. GD2013xx

One of the best Apps out!. Really good quality, no lag or freezing, lots of updates to keep the app running perfectly, definitely worth every dollar spent. I use this app to stream high quality films from my laptop to my iPad and onto my Apple TV, only takes a couple of seconds to set up and get started. Only downside is that it eats up your internet usage/ data usage, which is completely understandable. Thanks for a great app! 10/10!

Does the job well. I would have preferred that the files play directly from the network rather than converting and streaming. This uses CPU and network usage. It also can not stream from NAS devices as you have to run a client program on a computer. Also can not skip to sections of the movie, you have to watch it from beginning to end. Otherwise if you wanted to "stream" strictly, this is a great program to do it.

Great way to view files on the go. I use this to transfer video files to my phone to watch on my commute. It works simply and flawlessly no matter what kind of file I throw at it.

Excellent, it just works!. A great concept which I find very useful. Thanks very much.

Purely awesome. There's no way I'd have the space to move all the movies I wNt to the iPad and it's a pain to add and delete from iTunes. Now I can watch all my movies on the iPad.. Not just ones I had to buy in iTunes. Totally worth $2.50. Highly recommend to all. Don't use air play. Use this. No pixelation or stalls. Just perfect and looks great. Thanks so much!

No Google ChromeCast option. Great app but there is no option to stream saved video files to a TV via Google ChromeCast device.

Good, but some bad issues with sharing the app. Works really well, great app, just purchased the full version after having used the lite version for ages. I’ve just set my housemates up with it on their iPads and their PCs, and I’m not really happy about a couple of things which is why I’m not giving 5 stars. 1. If I’m downloading or streaming a file to my device, it is copying over to the other 3 devices that are being used with the app within the house. It would be better if that function could be disabled or be an opt-in feature, it’s annoying if I’m trying to stream something and someone else is trying to stream something else, as its downloading through my device and slowing what I want to stream down. I want to watch something, but I’ve got to wait for my housemates files to finish “downloading” to my device before I can even start on it. REALLY REALLY FRUSTRATING, I DON’T WANT THEIR STUFF. 2. Upon downloading the app, all the other devices with the app installed automatically linked to my PC. Maybe there is password protection available and I’ve missed it, and if there is it really should be enabled by default and not be an opt-in process. A pin or something should appear on my pc and I should have to input that pin into the app for it to gain access to the files straight off the bat, if there is no option for something like this then that’s a pretty bad flaw. All my files are on display for my housemates, and since downloading the app on their PCs I can see their files too.

Very disapointing.... VLC Streamer has not much to do with VLC itself ! Of course it uses VLC in the backend to stream... but you need to install a 28Mb video server on the mac. It's similar to other video servers such as Air Video but actually does a pretty poor job of it so far. Unless there's a serious shift in the way it works there is no point. For whatever reason it has to read the whole file before you can start cueing the file. Of course you can start streaming after it's read part of the file but it can take a long time even on a descent setup if it's a large HQ file... I cannot speak for quality as I'm using a 3GS and would have to compare speed and quality on a HQ display such as iPod or iPhone 4. Air Video for example is is much better and faster option.

Awesome.. This app is an amazing way to watch all my videos that are on my computer on my ipad and on my tv via apple tv. Quick accurate control of selection and playing. The download feature is very useful for when you are away from home ... Take movies with you. I use it for entertainment and professionally in my teaching.

Works a treat. Love it. I've seen this app get better and better with each update; it just does it's thing with no fuss. Just a couple of minor issues. The HP PC (runs W7) goes into over drive when I start streaming. I can hear the fans from downstairs. Solution is to stream from the iMac. The only other thing is that it would be useful to be able to sort and search the directories on the host..

Wonderful!. This app is the one feature of the iPad that tipped the scales and made me buy it. Wireless video anywhere in my house, constant sharing, very fast encoding (provided you have a decent computer) The only one problem with it, is the seeking and playback of movie files over 40-something minutes.. I hope this is fixed very soon! As I've resorted to using a different app for long movies (and all the other apps are terrible in comparison) I would gladly pay $20+ for this software, as it's proven it's usefulness time and time again. Thanks hobbyist software! You've made a winner!

Finally!. I've wanted a local video streamer for many months now. It's much faster then converting and copying manually. I'm yet to find a converter that keeps soft subs. This app does just that. My only qualm with it is that when I tried to add a 1080p mkv the audio didn't play. One of the reasons I decided to buy an iPad is because of this app but if I discover compatibility issues it'd be rather disappointing. Anyway thanks again.

This app is the bomb. This app works just brilliantly. Simple, no glitches, user interface easy, seamless. So many apps are disappointing... Designed by people who know nothing about design. Whoever did this one got a lot right. Thanks

Great for streaming on home network. I use this app all the time and it's fantastic, but tend to have fairly regular connection/persistent buffering issues when streaming through iPad. Improving connection issues would be great, plus the addition of making playlists so you're not required to select the next file if you're watching a series containing short shows (Adventure Time!).

UH-Mazing!. I have been looking for a program to download movies onto my ipad but they are all either around $30 and I'm not ready to take a gamble or free and the quality is unwatchable. This is perfect so glad I got it. The picture quality is perfect when streaming just turn all the settings up to full. It is so easy to download movies to your device and you can even watch one while its downloading. and such a reasonable price. I sound like I work for them :P NOPE just one happy customer!

Great little app simplifies getting movies to my iPad. This is a great client front end for the popular and free VLC Meia Player. It requires a small program to run at the PC end then makes watching and transferring (in the paid version) of video files as easy as pie. The lies are transcoded in real time to a size and bandwidth suitable for the iPhone or iPad. These files can Aldo be copied over so making the video viewable when offline. For long plane trips this is a lifesaver! A minor quibble is that the software picks up the default video and subtitles from the original file - on a lot of downloaded files that may mean you don't get your preferred language. It would be nice to support a preferred language but apparently this may be a limitation of the VLC server and not the app. Support from the author has been instantaneous and there are frequent updates. I would like to see the ability to organize the media files a it more (at least into Movies and TV folders) to avoid having to scroll down a long list. But still a very good and friendly app for media ju mikes like me!

Perfect. It plays avi's, mkv's, mp4's and so much more. It can tackle practically any encoding of any size. It can also (whilst streaming) save the video to your iPad or iPhone. It has airvideo capability too. It is perfection. The only thing that annoys me is that you can't switch apps for a moment and come back to where you were playing, but even then its not a problem, cause you just wait for it to rebuffer for about 10 seconds and scroll awau.

It works for me.. I was surprised when I saw the bad reviews for this. I've been using it for over a year now without problems. My iMac is in the downstairs office, my iPad sits on the bathroom sink as I have a bath. Takes about 10seconds to load the movie, then streams it fine for me. I use the high quality setting (there is a higher setting I don't use as I found it stuttered a bit) and have had no delay or stutters. There is also an option to save the movie to your iPad if you want to watch it away from your wifi connection. I'm unsure if it works on 3G as I don't use it for that purpose, but for what I use it for I love it. *** updated review below*** The above review was my review from a year or so ago, I have noticed over the past few months the audio goes out of sync with certain files, if I quit and restart the app the problem fixes itself, of course this is extremely frustrating, but overall it's still a great app.

It works. I've tried lots of file streamers (across my home network). While this does have to copy the movie to its app on the host computer, then copy to the phone (ie, takes a bit of fluffing around on apple prods) it at least DOES WORK! :)) So, if you're a bit organised by nature, and set your list loading perhaps overnight, this will be PERFECT! Or streaming while at home will work great too!! Didn't strike any buffering problems on our modest home wifi... It's good!

Lan app great.. I use this app to watch my digital versions of movies I own that I don't want to have on my ipad all the time. The simplicity means that I am streaming from my server (media pc) to my Ipad Over my wifi network, the strain on the server is large and you do need to install their vlcstreamer software onto the server, but once this is done I have not had an issue with this. I gave 4 Stars this rating because It would be better if I did not have to come into vlcstreamer each time to watch a movie, you have to use the program to watch your movies on your IPad, I would have liked to have them included into my video section and not be counted as app data. Enjoy I certainly do!

Excellent. I originally got the first version when it came out, and found it barely usable. I put the program away and didn't use it for many months. I came back to it a few weeks ago and wow, the improvements which have been made are fantastic. I now use this program nearly every day to watch videos off my network drive. It's like having a portable appleTV, without the expense. Highly recommended.

Thank you. One of the most useful apps I've found, now I can stream movies from my desktop to my iPad(3), then from my iPad to my Apple TV without leaving the couch! Also, unlike iTunes, VLC streamer doesn't discriminate. So far I have successfully streamed and viewed mp4, avi and mkv movie formats without incident. For those haters out there I suggest you either upgrade your broadband to suit your demands or upgrade your iPad, either way the app is great and works a treat on both iPad(3) and iPhone(4)....

Fantastic!. I've been looking for an app like this for ages- runs really well and is very easy to manoeuvre around and get to what you want. I love the fact that you don't have to take up a lot of space on your device by actually saving the file to it, and can instead just stream the movie and then change to another one whenever you want.

Fantastic App. Fantastic App, streaming to my iphone and ipad is now as easy as I always thought it should be! The set up and connection tests are very simple to follow. I had a little trouble configuring it with my AVG firewall which was more an issue with AVG than with this app, but Rob at the support email address (build into the app) was an excellent help. Quick response to my email (got back to me in less than 2 hrs) and very helpful giving me some suggestions to try. Would recommend this app to anyone wanting instant access to their Media library on their Idevices

Not quite right. Was super excited to try this as it sounded like it solved my issue, but it just never did the job perfectly for all three movies I streamed. It stopped multiple times throughout each movie which was incredibly annoying and there was no issue with my internet. I’d be more tolerant of it if it was a free app, but not for paid.

This app alone is enough to justify purchasing an iPhone. Perfect app. Your source pc will need to be a powerhouse to encode in real time. My q6600 @ 4 ghz can do three 1080p re-encodes in real time to three clients. My only desire would be the ability to configure Vlc streaming client to listen to a udp network stream and save as a preset. Audio only in the background too. I live listening to a movie whilst I browse or type emails.

Minor hiccup. It does what it says on the tin, yes; streams video between devices wirelessly, and allows you to store videos to watch later. However, in the latter case, most of, if not all videos have a seek bar which is too short. I.e. a video that is say 45:00 mins long will play for that long, but the seek bar is only 31:30 long. This means you can't seek further than 31:30. Other than this, it ticks all the boxes on the list of features that I expect and want at this this time.

Streaming videos from PC to IPad couldn't be easier. It really couldn't, if that's what you want to do, this is the app for you

Disappointing. I hoped to link this with Goflex Satellite, it would appear logical that it would be the next evolution in technology for iPad at least for non apple ad-ons. Don't bother it won't work. It works only from your computer. Why wouldn't I just watch it on my computer? I use vlc for movies on my computer and it is normally a good program. Secondly I want to load an app and it works. I don't want to have to go to my computer and load additional software and enter my email address so I can be constantly spammed - not for an app I had to pay for!

Flawless. Reliable; and, works every time.

Great app back on form. They've fixed the bugs that were causing it to crash on my computer and it's back on form as a great simple way to stream and copy videos to my iPhone and iPad. The drag and drop couldn't be simpler and the resolution is always fine for me on those devices. The only thing I'd fix is the ability to turn off subtitles from the device (for when I've forgotten to reset my download settings) - but I assume that would involve a complete do-over of its structure, and would take up much more room than the compact files do now... So I'm happy to live without it.

Excellent, thank you :). After a back injury I was confined to bed for a 2 week period, and luckily I found this little gem which allowed me to stream media from my computer to my iPad so I could at least watch some tv shows. Never had a problem, setup was quick and easy. Excellent job, well worth the money I paid.

Unfortunately still unusable. Update October 12, 2014. I saw there was a big update and decided to try it again. Still unusable. 1) Movies I copy to the iPad cannot be played via AirPlay. 2) All three movies I tried streaming from my PC suffered terrible pixelated transitions when played on the iPad or via AirPlay. 3) When streaming and playing via AirPlay, I cannot lock the device or minimise the app - the app will stop playing. ---- I used to love this app, but now it is just painful. Cannot copy a movie to device and then stream it via airplay. Playing stream directly drops out every ten minutes at least and NEVER remembers position when I start playing again. Fast forwarding and rewinding causes random dropouts, and scrubbing simply doesn't work most of the time - I scrub back to the X minute mark and find it shifts back to Y all the time. Can no longer recommend this.

THE BEST APP for watching/saving movies on your device. Bought straight away after only 5min with free app because the adds are too annoying. I can scroll through any of my HDD's on my pc from app and select a movie and play straight away!! Not a glitch!! Then I can copy it to my iPhone while watching it or another!! Copy movie takes a little more than 5min and after putting 3 on my phone i checked and barely even noticed it files must be tony!! Guys seriously I never leave feedback and try never to pay for apps but this is worth way more money!!! I am buying an iPad cause of this app... Easiest way to have Movies on the go !!!!!

Bad application. This application is not good and it needs to update. Don’t waste your money, I tried to watch series but the sound stop many times and the streaming stop too.

IOS14 update broke it. A bunch of the videos stored on my phone stopped working, while others didn’t. Something about a URL.

Wow - what an app!. I officially love all things VLC! What a fabulous app! Have been searching for an app to stream movies from my mac and am kicking myself that I only just stumbled upon this... The streaming apps I've used previously were buggy and took up too much storage, but this app works seamlessly and what I love about VLC products is that if you can't get it to work they have support systems in place that will set it up for you. I've never had connection problems with any of their products. Other developers step aside, Hobbyist have you beat! At such a great price, this is a must have for iPad users to stream movies... Thank you!

Very handy little media app. A very user friendly app with smooth user interface on the phone and PC, pretty easy to set up at both ends. I use it for steaming movie files from my PC to my phone (iphone 5s) with a almost perfect stream. I do get the odd connection issue bug it could easily be the connection in my house not the apps fault. Occasionally I'll use the app to copy the movie file to my phone storage to watch out n about, like at work, and the VLC steamer handles that effortlessly as well. Thanks Hobbyist software, another gem

Really great app. This app is really, really great. I used to have to fiddle with iSquint to convert things so they were watchable on the iPad. No more! This does it in real time which is awesome. However, I did find that a lot of my files did have sound lag when I tried to watch it directly. I don't know if that's just a crappy wifi connection or a problem with the app. Once i download it to my iPad its perfectly synced though. One issue I have is that it needs to be left on for downloads to continue - it only continues for 5 minutes after auto lock turns on or you go to another app on the iPad. I would prefer background downloading until the file is finished downloading rather than just 5 minutes (I was downloading quite a few videos to the iPad for watching later). Otherwise it's a brilliant app.

Does what it says on the tin. VLC Streamer is an excellent way to access media from your PC/Mac in another room. Over the two years I've been using it, it has improved in speed and reliability so that now it quickly downloads movies that can be watched straight away or saved for later viewing.

Great player. This is a great player once it's all set up, but I hope future versions will incorporate the functions of the Helper program into the app and also allow for adding multiple files to the queue at once instead of having to add them one at a time. Still, one of the handiest apps on my iPad for sure. Makes it very easy for me to take videos with me to watch when I'm travelling, too, or to watch stuff (that's on the computer) from another room, like when I'm cooking.

Should have this years ago. I put movies on my iPad and my iPhone and watch them when I like...Could not be simpler.. Thanks VLC

League of their own. This program does what it is designed to do perfectly. It has everything it needs. If you need a program to do the things that this program is designed to do look no further, you'll just end up coming back here for this gem.

Actually the greatest. Somehow they’ve just made the perfect app. Just when I thought it couldn’t get better I found out it had support for srt files! Now I can watch a bunch of foreign movies without them taking up space on my iPad. Massive thanks!!

Really good app. This app is the quicker than iTunes to get movies or tv shows onto your phone. The move to your phone function is awesome! I just dump the whole tv show season onto the mac app and let it process, then stream it to the phone. Wow fast and easy, micro purchase well spent.

Indispensable VLCStreamer.. Wouldn’t leave home without it. Thank you VLC.

Fast video streaming. I not often review apps - mostly use them once, and then forget them! Happy to say, I use this one all the time. I share a flat, ad I can leave my computer running downstairs and watch my tv shows - via steaming - anywhere in the flat. Great app. Worth the money!

Minor bug but overall good app. Generally works well, however experiencing minor bugs returning to the app after waking/resume ipod, the movie won't play unless reinitialized.

Needs a little work. This app works fine most of the time. There are however periodic issues with video quality and every now an again a file will simply stop streaming within a few minutes of its end point.

Just suddenly stopped working!. I was really disappointed to find today it just won't make a connect with my PC! I haven't made any changes, just won't connect. I don't know what could have happened between yesterday and today. I tried restarting the Helper on the computer, reinstalling the app, checked for updates, but nothing worked. A shame too because I've been enjoying it for almost a year..hope this gets fixed.

Perfect player. I've been using this app for a few months now and it works perfectly. Totally satisfied and best 5$ I've ever spent ,..⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Works Very Good !. I use this app everyday and I'm very happy with it. There have been just a few times where I needed to restart the VLC software on my computer. No big deal. I haven't tried any other software because this one works for me. There may be better, I don't know. I have a 5th gen IPod. I hope this review helps !

After the new update of ios 9 it crashes all the time.. It's actually a great app and I use it all the time. I would give it five stars if they could just fix this new bug after the latest upgrade. I have the latest iPad 2.

Great app. Great app, and I’d love to support developers, but $12 is steep. Would you not get four times the sales for a $3 purchase?

Amending My 1-Star Review to 5-Star. Within a day of posting my 1-star review of version 6.13 (having come out one or two days ago), Hobbyist has posted version 6.14, with that “Add Movie [+]” button crash issue now gone. Thanks, Hobbyist! I’m happy to give you back your good rating in my books.

Always "buffering".... Terrible app. I've added some basic Divx/Xvids and WMV files, and takes a while to convert. I have full signal strength, and ever few minutes, video pauses and tries to "buffer" more video. Annoying as heck. Not worth the purchase or even the "free" version either.

Great app!. Great app!

Awesome app. This app does everything I want it to, streams, converts and saves every format I use!!! Best app for watching movies and concerts!!!

Makes video watching a snap. Works without problems, great playback quality, makes watching movies in bed easy.

Does what it says it will do.. So far no complaints, and I've had it for a couple of years. Well done.

Could be A app. Needs update to fix streaming delays!

Great. Easy to use and works great, gets files from you storage devices so easily.

Would be 5 stars except a couple minor annoyances l. 1. Can't skip forward very far when you start streaming a video 2. Subtitles are on by default when streaming Other than those 2 small things this is a huge winner. Must have.

So good. So good I bothered to write a review. Get it. D

Doesn't stream whole file?!. Would be a great app if the picture didn't stop working in the last few minutes of the movie/whatever you are watching. audio finished but not the video just a frozen screen!? FAIL!

Worth every dollar. Just as the title says. Works great streaming from my computer to my iPhone, iPad, and through my iPhone devices to my Apple TV to my tv. Great job.

Absolutely The Best App In Class. This app has revolutionised the way I watch videos at home. Adding files is easy and the playback options are detailed. Works easily and perfectly every time. Best in class.

Incontournable. Pas de problème à convertir un fichier vidéo il le fait seul

Simply the best.. Any file. Any type. Any time. Used it for hours and hours. Never fails me! Ever! Highest recommendation!

great app. would be amazing if the devs added a cast option for chromecast! but still a great app! i even paid for full version

Simple and effective. Works very well, and product continues to be supported with updates. It really simplifies streaming through VLC if you can't get VLC to work reliably on its own.

One of the best!. This is the first app that I actually purchased. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of bit of difficulty setting it up.

Great App!. Paid version is worth it. Easy to use on my iPad and Windows 10 PC (free download for that). As an added bonus you can AirPlay to your AppleTV

I like.. It works. It's easy. Use it all the time on iPad and iPhone for watching video from PC to Apple TV.

Video cuts out. Even after attempting work-around, movies always cut off. :-/ . Good concept though.

Marvelous. Exactly what I needed! Everything works great with that app and there is regular update making it always better! It would be good to be able able to stream .mkv. Maybe it is not possible? Anyway very good app!

Awesome. Great app!!! Love being able to watch anything without converting it first! Also being able to copy to my device is great! Keep up the great work!!

Un modèle de perfection. Fonctionne à merveille. Merci!

Awesome. This is the only way to watch movies from my computer. Easy to use too.

Wow what a crappy app. Airvideo is soooo much better than this app, it takes forever to convert a movie and it's actually adding the converted file on my computer?!?! Are you serious?! This is something that's supposed to be done in real time not add extra space on my comp. I have 6 tb of date! Is it seriously gonna take that much space to actually view it all? I got this app cause the airvideo app updated and didn't like some of the downgrades but after trying this out I won't be complaining about airvideo at all!! Not worth the money at all, way better streaming apps out there than this crap.

Works great. Does it's job in the background. Give it a minute head start and streams nicely.

Works. Like VLC for computers, this app just works flawlessly.

The best. Great bang for your buck and exceptional support when my app broke. With quick responses and reassuring emails they were able to provide a solution and I was back enjoying this great app!

Need a button to rename file. Need a button to rename file Ill give 5 after you make the change

it's been great until now. i don't know what changed, but suddenly i either can't see my desktop or i can see the desktop but can't push with airplay. when playing on my device directly it frequently disconnects or stops with inexplicable errors, and once that happens i lose the position in the stream.

Best money I ever spent.. I wax watching a movie with subtitles. It put the subtitles on the screen when streaming it from my computer wouldn't. I love this app!

Only video app you'll need!. We download all our videos onto our PC and stream in HD on to the iPad with this app. It even plays .rar files on the fly! Plus with AppleTV, you can AirPlay to your big screen TV! Great help/support provided. We tried the free version and fell in love. Get the paid version - you won't regret it. 100% recommended for everyone.

Great App.. Converts any video formats on the fly. Is easy to use and the interface looks great. Highly recommended!

Did not play simple avi file. I bought the VLC and airvideo apps. The VLC did not work at all while the airvideo did not have sound. Then, i bought AZUL, which was cheaper than the 2 previous (0.99$), and the file worked great.

Great app!. I recommend it, it works excellent , now I go back to my streaming , bye!

A Must Have!. This app has been so useful! I have it installed on all my devices and on my server so I always have access to my movies on my mobile devices! Super straight forward to use and set up!

Ease to use and reliable. I use this app frequently for taking downloaded shows from my computer on the road with my iPad. It’s been a must have for years

A great app. Definitely my favourite app for streaming to my iPhone. Fast support and updates.

Awesome little app. Use this all the time. Works flawlessly.

👍. 👍

Worth it. The app is fantastic

Excellent. No issues at all. I use it often. Very worthwhile investment.

My Favorite App!. I use this app daily on my IPad. I stream movies from an external hard drive in my home office. When I travel, I use the app to download tones of movies and TV shows onto my iPad so I don't need an Internet connection to watch. Every version keeps getting better and the developer is very receptive to feedback and suggestions. Any problems I've ever had (which are infrequent) were resolved by restarting my computer and iPad. I LOOOOVE this app!!!

Awesome App. This app is simply perfect. Easy to use, we can watch all our movies from whatever room in our house. Even my wife who is not much of a geek uses it daily, to watch her yoga programs for instance. We just have to be careful, because the conversion process uses a lot of resources from our PC, and it heats up pretty fast. I guess it will be better once we get a quadruple core processor (we only have a double core for now) Anyway: thank you so much (and one of the last update simplifying the uploading to the iPad is simply genius)

Way better option for viewing your media free of iTunes. I'm loving this app after only using it for 10 minutes. Why? Because it flawlessly streams a large 1GB+ video file from my Mac to my iPhone. The best part is that I can leaven media files where I want, free of iTunes. Then I use the iOS app to search folders on my Mac and stream media files directly from where they reside. Awesome app and the way media management should work.

Works great. Completely easy solution for streaming video from your network. It "just works" and I love that -- haven't yet had a format or file that it failed to stream. Great interface and gesture playback controls too, I think apple's video player could take some notes. Also, no email required. The email is optional if you would like the helper application setup instructions sent to you. I didn't find them necessary as it was easy as googling, installing, and running. Overall very simple and easily worth the price.

Suggestion and comment. I like the computer player. But, this app and I'm not sure if there are other vlc players with iOS or not I was wondering if whe I use the streamer through the computer to put it through the phone or pad if I could take it anywhere and not just play the video throughout my house. I can download the laptop player and play it anywhere. I want to be able to play it on the phone and pad. How do I download to the streamer pro and be able to know when it's downloading and done downloading and know if I can take it anywhere? Plus I have seen a couple of other players that come up with the vlc cone are those also with vlc and would those work as well?

Update problems. I used to love this... I've used it nearly every day for the past 6 months. However, ever since the latest update which brought "bug fixes" and UI enhancements, I cannot stream a video on any setting with out it freezing once every 1-2 seconds. It makes watching videos nearly impossible, unless the scene is still with hardly any movement. Otherwise, actions and camera movement look extremely jerky. I don't know what changed... But I can't use my favorite app anymore. I hope this will be fixed soon.

great Application. at first I had a problem with a small stutter in streaming. I sent an email and within hours had a response that fixed the problem. The problem was caused by frame rate and is fixed by changing it in the settings. Due to fantastic support and a solution on the first reply .... Not to mention that this application works perfectly I am rating this at 5 stars. If you need to stream from pc to iPad....this is your application.

Great app. Does what it says! What else can you ask for? Setup is a breeze and in less than 5 minutes you can be streaming movies from your computer and viewing them on your iPhone or iPad. I bought this app for all the devices at my house and the results have been very satisfactory. Also, the ability to copy the movies to your device and take them with you makes managing movies for a trip a simple process, no more transcoding and syncing before leaving the house.

Excellent but warning before downloading. This is an awesome app, and does save soooo much time watching videos on your iPad. But know that every video you want to stream takes up additional memory on your desktop. I made the mistake of throwing tons of tv shows and movies on right away and my startup disk had only 52 mbs left. So just beware of how much your streaming to save memory. With that said, I've had no other problems! Incredible app!!

Aug 8, 2012. This app really is amazing. Not sure what everyone is hating about it but i am assuming they are were early adopters. Any way this app is great. Streaming and accessing content from your pc, laptop or whatever is simple. If your looking for an app to access your media files vlc is a good place to start. Just remember to download the vlc streamer app for your pc, or laptop so your mobile device can pick up where it will be receiving the media stream. Hope this helps for $2 its worth to check out.

VLCStreamer. This app works as advertised, and that's all it has to do. Buffering takes time and you have to be patient, but that's true of any other app, as well. You can't hurry physics. On the other hand, when you load the video onto the iPad, there is no buffering problem. A video hitch every now and then, but almost unnoticeable and it doesn't take you out of the movie. This is one of my primary apps now. It and Handbrake are a great combination.

Amazing. At first I was a bit skeptical. There were a few bugs at first until I updated the software, now it's amazing. I can seamlessly stream and watch any video from my computer. Now I can lay in my bed and fall asleep watching my movies. I love it, thanks for keeping it updated. Users who are having issues when your computer goes into sleep mode, I'd recommend trying out Wyse PocketCloud. You can easily wake your computer and launch the VLC Streamer Helper.

Works like a charm.. I've been using this app on my iPad to view movies I have on my computer and connected storage device. Earbuds plugged in and sharp little screen is a convenient way for me to privately watch movies. Choosing "High Quality" and "Watch" works well for me. You can pause anytime without problems but going backward or searching around would only work if you choose "Download" (but that is a slower process). You do have to add a helper to your computer that is a free download. Has never given me a problem on my MacBook Pro. Nice little added feature is sliding up or down on the screen to change volume.

An excellent app!. VLC Streamer simply does exactly what it's supposed to do. I was streaming movies and videos to my iPhone in a matter of minutes. It was so easy. I was able to navigate directly to one of the external drives hanging off my iMac, that has all of my movies and videos made with my GoPro. It converts your file to one of three resolutions so, the next thing I'm gonna try is, choosing the HD resolution and sending it the TV from the iPhone via Airplay and the Apple TV. So easy it was like magic. Just don't forget the VLC Streamer helper app that runs on your computer. No idea why others are complaining that it doesn't work... It works GREAT!

Love it.. I watch a lot of classic TV episodes (in MOV and M4V format) and this app lets me stream them to my original iPad (1) and my new iPad mini, while I sit on the couch, sending the audio to my stereo via the AirPlay feature. Works perfectly, A/V sync is great, and the server app for the Mac is rock solid for me (in Snow Leopard). Great experience. My only complaint is that this app sometimes stops playing an episode before finishing, if another stream finishes processing in the background. So I watch after they're done processing. Overall a great app! I'd love to see it support chapter markers in a QuickTime file, but otherwise, I'm enjoying this app.

Crashes Constantly. I got this mainly to watch/listen to work out videos while I work out at the gym near my work. I have not had one workout where it worked seamlessly and didn’t cause me trouble. Its crashes at least 3 times each session and worst of all, for some reason VLC did not think to allow the external play/pause button control the video, so when I press pause on my headphones or lock screen instead of play/pausing the vid, it stops the vid and starts whatever song I had in the music player going earlier in the day. Then when I go and try to find my place back in the vlc player it crashes. Seriously, where are these 5 star reviews coming from? They haven’t even covered the basics of the basics.

Always a Quality App. I'm a big fan of VLC and use it on my computer for all types of media. I've used a few different video streamers on my iPhone since 2007 and VLC has been the only app that has remained consistently working throughout the different iOS updates. It's incredibly simple to setup and runs freely in the background. I couldn't recommend it highly enough, well worth the small purchase price to get rid of ads and help support the VLC project!

Great App!. First off I would like to say, "this is a great App"! It's been the only app I've found that allows me to watch/copy my videos from my pc to my iPhone/iPad with little hassle. And without having to convert them on my pc. I mainly use vlc streamer to copy videos to my devices rather than stream them But depending on your pc, streaming can be pretty smooth. For those of you who are looking to do the same, I would say look no further. With that being said, I have a one thing about the latest update that I didn't like. When watching a movie or rather waiting for a video to load and also when copying, there used to be a counter below the video to let you know how much of the video has loaded already. That counter went away with the latest update. So now I have no clue how much of the video is loaded/copied and when it might be done. Please bring that back. Also for videos copied to my device, It would be nice if you were able to rename the videos. And maybe put them in folders. But that may be stretching it. Overall though, love this app. Thanks,

Very good but slow. It's suprisingly easy to setup; it just take few minutes. I downloaded the free version and bought it after minutes of use. I didn't notice any diference between them besides ad removal. Unfortunately it takes a long time to convert videos (2h movie in ~45 min on an i5), but you can start watching right away. I think the major drawback is that you cannot pause the movie and check another app without having to restart the video and drag manually to the position you left.

Needs more improvements. This is an app I would tell people about but still needs work if they and and fix these things this will be the best app because I bought this version: 1. Needs to work wireless out side your home (using either your data plan or wi-fi not just wi-fi. 2. Improve the password feature because when you open the desk top app you have to reset it every time. 3. Fix the volume control because when you play the movie in this version you can't hear anything No volume at all.

A wonderful mediaplayer app. VLCStreamer is a must have app for anyone that has video files on computers around their home. Its solid networking and on-the-fly transcoding of video files from a mac or pc couldn't be easier. Just browse to what you want to play, wait a minute or two for it to start buffering and you're ready to watch a movie in bed with your ipad. Also, because it converts the video into an ipad compatible format, it plays perfectly with no jitters or "buffering..." messages. Truly a must have app, that would be a steal at twice the price.

Convenient and mostly reliable!. Great app, does what it claims. Very low-effort streaming of a large variety of video files, and can even download converted videos to the iPad directly for offline viewing later! The quality of transferring/downloading is amazing. Great enough even for the iPad 4's retina display, definitely worth it. The only qualm I would have is the seeking throughout the videos is a bit choppy, when you exit and restart it resumes ~10-20 seconds forward, so you have to readjust every time. But this is a minor annoyance compared with how efficient and convenient the app is!

Awesome App Wait for the Fix!. For those of you finding this app for the first time, don't download it until he fixes the problem! You won't realize how great this app is if you get a bad taste in your mouth from this version. This app blows the AirTunes capabilities of the native video app which crashes my iPad2 every time I try to play a video on a wireless N network! Weird that it only crashed sometimes when on my G network...this app never had weird issues like that.

Sub par for VLC. I'm a pretty big fan of VLC. I mostly use it on my PC except for certain .mkv files. VLC's support for .mkv has gotten much better over the years but I find MPC handles the files better. I guess it wasn't a huge surprise to find the VLC Streamer app has issues with .mkv's. The VLC application crashes on the server side every time! The user interface is great and the gesture controls are perfect. The streaming speed is very acceptable. Just disappointed that I have to convert any .mkv files I really care about (most of them) or find a better solution, which I haven't yet. Since I love VLC anyways ill continue to use this app but I am hoping for an update that solves this issue.

Great app for kids and adults. Got this because I didn't want to fill the space on our iPad for the kids to watch they're movie collection. Install on Mac choose file and it instantly starts loading, you can even watch as it loads. Movies or shows or only loaded to stream which is perfect for those like me who don't want to download it onto their device, but you so have that option. Also selecting quality, video size and scaling is another big bonus. Thanks guys for this awesome app. Totally worth $1.99, heck it's worth $4.99!

Surprised at the quality and low price. As others have noted I've not been able to find a decent player that I can use to leverage the VPN ability of the iPhone and stream video directly from home storage. All the other apps require copying to iTunes (VLC player included) and the entire point of wireless roaming is to avoid all that ... bandwidth limitations in mind =) Setup - The light-weight Windows server is easy even for newbs and allows access to other storage devices on the local subnet. There is a beta Linux server too but I have not tested it yet. Runtime - The app leverages VLC to provide trans-coding on the semi-fly. I say semi because it starts it's job and allows viewing shortly after. It's got some minor bugs ; an MP4 had no audio and there are some clean up issues if you delete an item before it finishes the trans-coding job. Overall - The one thing that impressed me is being able to stream through a VPN. One limitation I don't care for is that the app won't let you stream if you are not wi-fi connected. With a small enough frame size streaming can be had at 45k ; they should remove that. Price - I figured this app would be $5 at least. It's $.99 a bargain =)

Exactly what I was looking for. I bought this back in November 2013 but never used it because the streaming was slow. I eventually figured out it was a setting on my host computer's Ethernet card (the setting made ANYTHING on my LAN slow). Ever since I fixed that it's been working flawlessly on the highest quality settings. After the initial buffer the videos NEVER pause to buffer. It even plays my videos in rar files. The other alternatives (Plex, Air Video HD) DO NOT and requires me to unrar them before I'm able to play them. If you're looking for a streamer this is the one to go with. It's added so much more value to my iPad since I started using this app.

Fantastic App. I have been using this app for several years on an almost daily basis. I love it. Whenever I've had a problem, I've contacted the developer and received a prompt response and he has worked with me to resolve the issue. I like being able to stream video from my computer or save it to my iPad to watch when I am out. I've tried other programs, but I never found anything as nice to use. I highly recommend it. There aren't many apps that I feel are worth paying for, but this one certainly is.

Not great. VLC Streamer doesn't appear to completely upload videos to my iPad most of the time. The VLC Streamer Helper program running under Windows appears to have been ported from an old Mac program and functions poorly. Specifically it doesn't alway completing a video transcoding. Let's just say its not living up to the VLC Player name which is very good, ultimately what is was really looking for. I hope the developers work the bugs out of this app because the concept is a good one but it just isn't worthy of downloading now. The good news is the developers were very responsive to my inquiries and appear to be still working hard on this project.

Its good but not great. I loved how this app worked and everything. I was able to watch my shows with great ease and clarity, BUT you can only watch your VLC in the same area as your computer. I didn't notice that when I got it. I wanted to watch it at work and my shows wouldn't play. I wish that was different. I mean, when I am at home I could just watch them on my computer so it is kind of a wasted buy in that sense. But it is nice if you are doing something in the house where you are away from the computer. I have complicated emotions about this app, but my major problem is that you can only use it at home.

Excellent app!. I use alot of the various vlc programs on my pc and a few vlc apps on my iPad 2 and iPod touch, and other apps from same company and they all work very well and exactly what they're suppose to. They are always updating their apps too, and adding new features or fixing bugs. Vlc apps, I consider to be a must have for any iPad 2. This vlc streaming app really unlocks the power of your iPad/iPod touch and let's u do things normally not possible, or very difficult to configure manually. I use vlc streamer with other apps to turn my iPad into a powerful multimedia machine that does anything I want.

Great app! Does exactly what it says.. Installed the "helper app" on an Aspire Revo that drives my home theater. Runs great! Have watched movies on the Revo while processing another for the ipad using this app. The quality control is great, and the speed decent, considering the helper app runs on an Atom PC. No network buffering issues. Playback is smooth, and looks and sounds great. Idea for future enhancement: add ability to boost things like volume on the helper app, or enhance video..gamma, brightness, contrast, saturation. These are very basic video effects and shouldn't affect streaming quality.

Excellent player, but has to transcode. The good: player control is outstanding! It's as good as I've ever seen on any player, on any platform. App developer absolutely nailed the gesture-based control. Well done! The bad: as far as I can tell, this app has to create a transcoded version on my PC in order to stream. This doubles the amount of storage required for a given video, so that a 4GB video requires 4GB transcoded version, for instance. Multiply this by the number of vids on the hard drive, and…you get the idea. Additionally, the transcoding takes too long. My Core i7 CPU, running at 100%, requires 10-15 minutes per GB. (I realize this app can start streaming almost as soon as it starts transcoding, but I don't want the excess wear on my hard drive armature as it is forced to shuttle between what's written and what's being written. And there's still the mentioned drawback of doubling the storage space needed.) I would LOVE this app if it could stream on the fly!

Plays videos, but doesn't play songs!. After reading many reviews and researching I finally decided to buy VLC Streamer because I have mostly .avi movie files and I don't want to go through all the hassle of converting them. So far I'm loving it, but the one thing I don't get is why it doesn't play audio files? It plays video files fine so far, but no audio files. Why is that? If you ever add this functionality in an upgrade, I will change my rating to five stars.

What happen to subtitles. A month or so ago when I first purchased this it would show subtitles for show in other languages. Now it doesn't. That defeats the point if using this thing as that's why I bought it since loading videos and the subtitle files still weren't showing up on the old vlc player Update. Got subtitles working again. I had to update the helper and vlc player. Hopefully it stays working. The main videos I'm watching work better on my iPad.

The best App I ever bought. People that complain about some functions they expected to see, didn't follow the advice of the company to first try the free version. This player is awesome, it literally plays anything format you throw at it. The fact that you can save files onto your device effectively means that you no longer need to convert to mp4 and then import via iTunes, very high quality & robust app. Try out the free version first if you are unsure.

Great customer service. I am now able to download and view my videos on my iPad. I emailed the company, and they responded quickly. As soon as the issue was resolved they let me know. For the download issue you have to download the software for your pc again. There is an hot fix for it. As for the controls not showing up in your window anymore, do a little digging before complaining. That was a feature change. If you go to your settings you would have notice that there is a choice to put it back.

Does exactly as advertised. Update: Over two years later and still using the app without a hitch. Used daily. Utility, support, and updates make the already low price a worthwhile investment. Works perfectly for streaming anime mkv files with subtitles directly from my Mac to my iPad/iPhone or television (via Apple TV which is fully supported, not mirrored) thus avoiding the need for conversion or copying. Works well with mp4 as well. Subtitle support could be more robust but I've never had a problem with the defaults. Controls are intuitive and responsive. Worth the price if you have an alternative to your computer for viewing media.

Please add this one feature. This app is great for watching movies but when it comes to adding subtitles I can't choose the encoding of the subtitles on my iOS device, and when I add a movie from my PC using the helper app, I can't choose what subtitles I want to play with my movie it keeps choosing the main subtitle file that comes with the movie, please add an option for choosing a subtitle file or add the encoding option on the iOS app.. it's like on each OS there is a missing feature, and if the PC has it, my iOS device doesn't, and vice versa. please add these features, they are extremely necessary! thank you.

It doesn't get any better. Best app for streaming videos of ur pc, or Mac. Server install was breeze 2 min. App found my pc on first try no complicated settings one click install. Using my iPad I browse all the harddrive and external hd with vids and movies and it starts streaming instantly on my wifi. Video is smooth and clear picture quality is of the highest quality, no lag or buffeting it also allows u to download vids to ur iPad for offline viewing, worth $1.99. Multiple options for video and audio quality so u can stream on even the slowest wifi connection. Download the free version to try (ad bar at the bottom of the vid) u won't regret it.

Decent. I actually wrote a negative review initially but that was because I didn't understand the program. It's a great program. Before the app was upgraded, it was free and you could drag and drop movies from your computer via iTunes. I loved that (you could view your saved movie w/o a Internet connection). Anyway, I think the app is a little confusing to set-up but once you get through that it works very well. The idea is "streaming" . If that's what you want it works perfectly for that. You can save a movie on ur IPhone but you need wifi to view it.

VLC has always been a pc must...and same for the iPad!. Love this app! In fact, it was the very first app that I paid for the full version of, and I have never regretted it for a minute and probably would pay more. Oh how I wish that Apple would actually update their iPad video player like the VLC team has continually updated and improved this! (I remember grabbing the VLC video player for my aunt and her iPad one, And looked for it first thing when I got my new iPad two, and was entirely disappointed to see that Apple had yanked it from the store) When I first saw that gestures were a new feature I thought it sounded hokey, but now I am addicted and find myself gesturing using Apple's player. KUDOS and two thumbs up to the VLC team. I just wish you guys could come up with the way to get your regular video player as an app in the store and again. I would pay more than all my other paid apps combined to grab it! Thanks again.

Wish they would put one option back. I love this app and have been using it for a long time, but one of the older versions allowed you to put the video in slow motion and allow you to pause and when you started to play again it would continue in slow motion. The newer version(s) will restart the video at normal speed when you play after a pause in slow motion. Outside of that, it is perfect. Thanks.

Works As Promised. If you're looking for an app to pull video from your Mac and stream it to your mobile, this will do it. Add the free app to your Mac and you'll be up in a few minutes. Just remember that the app does some conversation, so how fast your movie streams to your mobile will depend on the speed of your machine and your network. With my iPad Air 2 it's pretty much realtime, but forget scrubbing or skipping ahead...even in the movies that have copied to your mobile your control is limited. The biggest complaint I have is "queuing" or trying your to convert/copy over more than one video at a time. Doesn't work. It tries but usually taps out for medium to large files. But, for simple streaming of multiple formats, this app does the job.

Works great. Well worth the $2 to eliminate the ads (from the free version) and fairly compensate the developer for this great program (also noting that the VLC player I use on my computer was free). Just be a bit patient and wait for the video to sufficiently buffer before you watch (or their will be annoying pauses). Much easier to use than trying to use iTunes to move videos onto my iPhone. Can't wait to also try it on my iPad.

Wasted my money. I was looking for a player that can see files on a network share. Although this app says it can do something like this, it does not explain that in order to get the instructions, you have to give them your email address (obviously they like to gather our email addresses) and most importantly they do not explain that the streaming happens via a server that you need to install on your computer and open your firewall for it. The way it works is that it makes your computer some kind of web server in order for the device to see it and connect to it. It seems to me that this is a high risk to take on your computer's security and I prefer to consider this money lost. Furthermore, I wanted to connect to the shared drive of my WDTV live plus where I keep all my video files. It seems impossible to do so with this app and I would have to copy video files from my media server back to my computer in order to view them in the VLC streamer. This would waste to much of my time.

Fantastic tool for streaming!. VLC streamer takes an already fantastic PC media player and streams any capable media file to your iPad, iPhone or Apple TV. If you can play it on VLC on your PC, you can play it through a high speed wifi home network using this app! Great job guys for a fast stable media streamer app, for those of you who couldn't watch movies on your iPad from your PC, this app is for you. I'm very pleased with the quality of the streamed files (I can play pretty much anything on very high quality setting due to a decent wireless framework in my home) and being a big anime fan, discovered it streams all subtitles as well! Keep up the great work, definitely well worth the cost of the app. Thank you!

Handy. Works quite well with the latest update. Basically lets you use your pc to handle the actual processing requirements for VLC while running the video on your tablet. And if you're going to be away from your network, it lets you download the processed video to the tablet. Does well with almost all formats I've tried, and can handle multiple audio and subtitle tracks. Fair warning, the processing end does require a fair amount of PC power.

Simplicity is genius!. This app is genius! It is very easy to use and it saves me so much time and headache now since I no longer have to worry about converting my video files before importing them into iTunes..and then have to remember to sync it with my iPhone / iPad. With VLC it's just a drag and drop via your desktop computer or you can even do this from your iPhone/iPad since you will be connected to it wirelessly. Nothing more than that... It's magic!

Epic App. Simply the best app for watching video files on your iDevice from your computer. VLC player plays every video file imaginable and converts and streams insanely fast. Occasionally you may need to restart the program or play with frame rate settings to get videos to play at all or play without hiccups, but this should be something fixed in future releases along with a music file player. Still, an indispensable app that works very, very well.
