The Guardian - US & World News App Reviews

Concise, Cogent, Complete, and Convenient!. I depend on The Guardian to provide factual, up-to-date, accurate reporting, free of the political agendas of the two dominant political parties of the United States. The view from across the Atlantic provides clarity and independent, disinterested expositions of current events, while the US “news“ presenters often try to distract their readership with politically-motivated, one-sided, manufactured issues as these two old dinosaurs battle each other for control of the US government and its Treasury. I can trust The Guardian to provide the whole news, without the echo chamber and propaganda of the politically motivated press. Without The Guardian and the US National Public Radio my information about current events would be limited to two separate ideological bubbles, operating in a vacuum as though the other doesn’t exist, feeding their audiences only the half-truths that they want them to hear. I applaud The Guardian for its support (financial and intellectual) of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and the fearless, dangerous work they are doing to expose the global secret economy and web of influence of the world’s uber-wealthy families, politicians, and kleptocrats. I am proud to be a paid subscriber.

Most objective news worldwide. I don’t really believe in paying for news, however after several weeks of reading the guardian I bought a subscription just to support the work they do. It is by far the most objective and well thought out written fair and balanced news worldwide. The way they covered the Palestinian Israeli conflict was very two-sided unlike most news agencies. I am an American and I believe that the guardian covers American use in a better Way than any American corporation. New stories are discussed in depth and with no tilt or bias, I recommend anybody who can buy a subscription and or donate money to fund the wonderful work being done at the guardian, Please do so

So many typos. Over just the past few years, the number of typos have increased and some of the articles seem to be written in a dumbed down way or even potentially partly written by AI? All I can say is that the quality has gone down in the writing style, and the typos don’t help. I also paid for this app, but on the website, I keep getting pop ups to pay even more or subscribe and pay an additional fee to stop the pop ups. Not worth buying if I’m just going to have to pay a second time just to read the news on my laptop. I can get the same news written in more sophisticated language without typos from the NY Times and The Economist. I’ve cancelled my subscription to this app as it’s frustrating to read.

Best news ap. This is the best news ap I have used. Great use of colors to separate sections. Open a story to read, then hit Home once and it returns to the same spot you left , no scrolling back to where you were. Stories you read are dimmed. Hit home again and you go to the top. Again and it refreshes the news. Really, really well done. It caches some stories so you can load and read offline. My only complaint would be to age stories sooner- many stories stay for days.

Most reliable news and information. My interest in the the Guardian was piqued by its analysis of two events years apart, the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001. There was not a reliable and trusted news source for me after the advent of Fox News until the Guardian app became available along with subsequent paid membership. The Guardians moniker is an apt description of its mission which is to be a guardian of truth and justice for our planet and all that inhabit it. It is ironic that I have to rely on the Guardian since corporate interests in my own country, the US, caused the death of “truth in journalism”. I truly appreciate that the Guardian is available to anyone with access to a phone or computer with probable exception to China and others with repressive regimes. Thank you.

Best Paper in World, but…. The Guardian is bold, extremely well and clearly written, plus easily read. They break news and dig, dig, dig to present issues of interest across the spectrum. It’s what an active paper should be! The priority is on a just global society, good governance, no coddling the truth and on transparency rather than capitalism, business or brutish sensationalism. And no namby pamby treatment of giving equal weight to slimy partisans. They protect democracy and unzip issue framing, and press spinning by partisan and PR types. The shortcoming is in how one can contribute to support this two century old paper. The payment mechanism inhibits paying larger amounts and needs flexibility to accommodate more supporters who want to pay in different ways - card, checks, payment systems, gifts of stock, etc. Aldo those who can only pay smaller amounts get locked out if they are heavy readers.

Register or be denied access.. I downloaded the Guardian app recently to see how well it works and determine if the quality of both the app and the journalism was worth my time and financial support. Today I was presented an ultimatum, either share my personal info for data mining, ie: “curated ads and content” or not be allowed further use of the app. I have no problem with generalized ads or the requests for financial support but targeted ads is simply google like doublespeak for violating my privacy and selling my data and identity. It’s one thing for a predatory company like google to do reprehensible garbage like they do but a journalist organization that claims a higher standard? That’s a nonstarter for me.

Guardian was Great 5 years Ago but Not Today. I have really enjoyed the Guardian until the past few years. Years ago, it was tolerable to see a few young writers offer up a few novel interpretations of history or culture we never knew about, surrounded by a the wealth of objective apolitical news reporting by professionals your loyal readers could readily consume. But now the vast majority of your news articles are opinion-based, political, or racially charged hit-pieces dismantling some part of western culture your writers utterly despise. It is so bad, I now have to scroll through 90% of the articles just to find a single one about something innocent, like the wildlife in the UK, the world economy, etc. ….some world news event that is apolitical and free of ‘victimhood culture’. Your news now is just editorialized, hyper-charged opinion. Activist hate has spread like wildfire through your news org. Its now so biased and jaded against large cross sections of people, races, ages, religions, or genders there is nothing truly objective left that can see the world of good people as worthy. Your news it seems is just not fit to print without hateful interpretations looking through the dark colored lense of identity politics. I miss the Old Guardian where all people and all news had value as is. Now it is heavily filtered, heavily jaded, and toxic. I just cant listen to the passive agressive rage in so many young writers any longer. I have to say goodbye.

A Very Reliable News Source. “The Guardian” is one of the really reliable news sources that I feel I MUST check in with on a daily basis. In these troubling times of insane “alternative facts and skewed reality”, rigorous research and thoughtful reporting are more important than ever. I am 75 years old, and I have NEVER lived through a period in Democratic history as heartbreaking as this one. History will ultimately show that it has been the tireless & persistent effort of the investigative free press that has kept TRUTH, and A VISION OF A WAY FORWARD, alive. Keep on KEEPING ON. The Guardian is Baller. For the nearly fifty years I have been reading it, the Guardian has maintained a consistently high standard of journalism. Affectionately known in Britain as the Grauniad because of its more than occasional misprints, its editorial policy does not stray from the intelligent, liberal democratic, left of center, humanist ethic that has been the common thread of post WWII euro politics through the millennium. That thread is starting to fray but the Guardian doesn’t waver. The on-line version shows the newspapers’ adaptability to a new world publishing order without selling out to the tech-bro meme (read me-me) culture that threatens us all. Long Live the Grauniad!

Pretty good but used to be better. The content is distinctly left leaning and usually manages to avoid being too strident, though I have to say it is noticeably a little less sober than it once was. Once upon a time, its format and presentation was classier, more elegant, and easier to read than it is now. Indeed, I was sad to see it lose its white and blue format and its distinctive font. Nowadays The Guardian looks and feels like so many other news sites and has lost much of its individuality. Yet despite the old branding being far better, I still persevere with The Guardian because the quality of its reporting does redeem it a little.

Suddenly Tabloid. The Guardian has always been one of my most relied upon news sources. The journalism is ethical, balanced, and well researched. They cover stories that matter, on a global scale, and I’ve always perceived them as justice-oriented— until recently. The bitter and scathing coverage of Prince Harry has been honestly shocking. The publication I have always regarded as a legitimate outfit seems to be no better than tabloid trash, attacking the Sussexes for simply telling their story. Guardian, get back to real news. And when you do human interest stories, show your customary humanity, instead of this new viciousness. Your loyalty should be to journalism — not the British monarchy. All you’re doing is showing that all of Prince Harry’s assertions about the British press are legitimate.

The best news app 10 stars. I purchased the monthly subscription and it is well worth it. The news that is covered and the links within articles is simply “Outstanding!” To be able to read current news and link to older stories concerning issues is incredibly fascinating and informative. Each day I find new information and detailed stories I didn’t know existed. I love the stories. Was reading up on Chernobyl and the newly installed enclosure and went through each of the links reading about life within the exclusion zone and the possibility of a solar farm. The content and how easy it is to navigate is simply awesome. One article and its associated links can lead to hours of fascinating information at your fingertips. If I could change one thing it would be to include easier crossword puzzles for novices like me that are working our way up to the more difficult ones.

I like the journalism just fine, thanks. 2019 jan 6: It has been little over a year since i wrote the older review below and still feel the same. I do have one question, is it more beneficial to anyone by my becoming a subscriber versus keeping my current annual supporter status? What’s different? Older review: After having used the free app for about a year, decided to become an annual supporting member. Revenues generated go back into the journalism and not into any extraneous bells and whistles. (I do not consider providing for a web presence extraneous, these days it becomes a necessity.) I suppose it is my way of supporting the Free Press.

Worth paying the subscription. A great news app that I use constantly throughout the day. Well-written articles. Good curation of US news on the home page. Real-time as-it-happens news updates give just the right amount of detail and are generally reliable. While my sympathies lie with the left-wing point of view in the US Comments pages, it would be more interesting to include some other perspectives. Great football/soccer coverage. The cryptic crosswords are worth the price of the subscription. The app works smoothly very smoothly.

Thanks for your generosity.. Thank The Fourth Estate ! I’m a student and broke. It’s so important to be informed. I really appreciate that I can read The Guardian for free. When I get some money I will start paying. The writers are excellent — great content. I can look at the photos and editorials, and imagine a life of travel where I can improve myself. Thanks for your unbiased research into world issues, and your reporting on politics. Being a journalist is a dangerous low paying job. Those that bring us the news and keep us informed, are the only thing standing between a free democracy and a failed state. Across the world journalists are jailed, killed, or treated with suspicious hostility at the very least. Also, If the media is so liberal, how come they gave Trump 5bil in free ads? The point I'm trying to make here is that journalism used to be known as "The fourth estate", an actual branch of a democratic society. The Guardian upholds this time honored ideal. Also, The Washington Post charges money to read online. The Guardian is free. Read it.

More and more problems. This app is my favorite. However, in the past few months it has become extremely buggy and frustrating to use. First, at some point last year articles stopped being cached properly. I reported the issue yet the problem persists. The vast majority of articles are not accessible offline even when I open them first. Secondly, every single time there is an update the dreaded “support the Guardian” appears until I restore the purchase. I have a premium membership- I shouldn’t have to restore once a week. Incredibly frustrating. Again, I have reported this several times. A week passes and the same thing happens yet again. Finally a new problem since last week, when trying to access comments I get a pop-up saying I need to activate notifications in order to view comments. I don’t understand why there are so many problems these days but it has become very annoying to use.

Subs too expensive. Everyone’s wanting a subscription now and yes quality news costs, but sorry $67 / yr is too much. $50 I’ll do it. You’re not alone - The LA Times wants $200 / yr ! And the NY Times wants $250, but at least they do a $50 / yr for your first year!May as well pay $10 / month for Apple news. Even the NY Times has a Black Friday offer for $50 though. Come on people, why don’t you try it and see how many more people would bite?! Ps. The subs you offer are a mess : the “All access digital” sub doesn’t inc Guardian Essentials app! Or you could subscribe for cheaper in the “Guardian Live” app for exactly the same content. You guys are great at news, but you need a new head of Digital Business Development as your pricing is all over the shop!!

New logo/icon is disappointing. The Guardian is great. I read it everyday. I'm dropping a star from my review though because the new icon is so bad. I loved the old logo. The blue circle-masked lowercase "g" was distinct, unique and popped out in a sea of apps on my home screen. The new, black and white, times roman, capital G in a circle feels like any generic news publication. Worse, the app is hard to find now when I scroll through my apps and the widget icon, wow, I can't even tell it's a G. It could be that stupid new uber icon for all I know. Seriously, I understand the world is a depressing, polorizing place these days and the new black/white logo might be meant to represent the times, but please, when Trump leaves office, can we have the old logo back? Finally, Yahoo and the Gap both changed their iconic logos an few years ago. The Gap changed theirs back and still have a business, yahoo not so much. Please don't be the next Yahoo!

The Guardian is real news. Please support accurate and in-depth reporting. The Guardian reports from an international perspective, covering world events that are often not picked-up by US news sources. Also; a wide variety of news stories, public interest, and social topics are covered. While their free coverage is broad everyone must accept that The Guardian, (And NYT & WAPO amongst others), must still pay the bills in order to function. So; please provide financial support by buying a paid subscription. [I; in no part, have any business dealings with this or other news sources. I do believe in paying my share].

The Guardian: A stellar (5 stars )news source. The Guardian continues to be a stellar news source for the world eager to comprehend the world in which we all live. With unabashed comprehensive and uncompromising ethos, the Guardian provides its readers news relevant to today. Opinion pieces offer perspectives not shared by all, but can give the reader pause to muse, perhaps seeing “the other side” for the first time, thus opening the mind to other possibilities, and sometimes new direction of thought. The Guardian stands firmly upright, by itself, against any of the other credible, well-respected and lauded news sources from around the world, and it deserves to be given the utmost credit for the written styles of its reporters who strive to relate news stories that serve to educate the general public. Education is knowledge, and the Guardian brings that every-single day to its millions of readers.

Recommended. Attractively designed with lots of photos. A compelling way to read the news that compares favorably with the very good NYT app. The comments on political articles are less thoughtful than those in The Times, but sometimes raw rage and non-prissy language seem more appropriate. Also, The Times doesn’t dare to publish cartoons. The Guardian’s cartoons are brilliant and indispensable (though some of them don’t blow up properly for small-screen reading). The Country Diary column, which has run for over one hundred years, sets the news in a wider arc of nature and humanity. The Guardian takes you places no other newspaper can reach, and this app is a pretty nimble vehicle for that journey.

Content rich, with formatting issues.. I still don’t get articles’ links when they are placed into live update feeds. I don’t get to enjoy David Squire’s editorial cartoons in the app because they are too small. Those are annoying. The strong neo-liberal influence on content is a feature, not intended as the obvious bug it amounts to. Otherwise, good stuff. But keep looking for information about certain hotspots and for certain important emphasis. They don’t want you looking too hard at the Middle East, for example. Used to take comments, but the discussion must have turned sour on several notable opinion leaders featured within.

Great news app. The App: Fast-loading, good layout, and I love that when you open it it pre-loads all the stories when you open it, so if you’re going somewhere without internet (whether an airplane or just the black spot in your own home) you can read all the stories. The content: Well-written, properly edited proper English, not like so many clickbait sites (and even other journalistic organizations!) where it seems people have forgotten grammar or how to spell. Good journalistic content though a bit lefty, I’d appreciate cogent opinions from the other side of the spectrum as well. At least it’s clear what’s news and what’s opinion unlike (many!) others. Lots of free news but I pay for this one, it’s worth it.

Real Facts written by Real Journalists. I read/listen/watch many news sources in various formats. The Guardian is courageous in its global news coverage, that seeks to print only the truth, and not sensationalize or spread misinformation to get “Likes”. Disinformation is not in its vocabulary. I am able to learn first hand the difficult stories of real people and real situations that affect me, the planet, the economy, the world’s people and so much more. It provides me part of what I need to know to make informed decisions, especially when it’s time to #vote in any election I am privileged to take part in. I am seventy years old and donate when and where I can to support their sincere efforts to keep an honest and free press alive. Please also donate and/or subscribe to help them in their heroic accomplishments as they are “boots on the ground” in sometimes very precarious environments where they must risk their lives. The “free press” isn’t and can’t be free, (as everyone has bills and salaries to pay, to eat, keep the lights on, keep a roof over their heads, and just be able to produce such honest/unbiased content), if you don’t support them. Please do so.

!! The Guardian against drivel !!. I have to say first, that I am not a political individual of unrest. The news on television only upsets me, and clouds my judgment, and makes me despondent. There is too much of nothing going on in most news available to us. I think the best thing about the guardian, is that it is not over washed with pictures and nonsense, and the pictures that are posted tell the story and leave it at that. The writers are careful to be simple yet intelligent, the app is easy to navigate, and I get a sense of overall honesty. I know that honesty can be misconstrued, and that is to be expected, but at least the guardian is working towards something better. Even amongst all of the Trump propaganda, they say it how it is, and let us know what other people are thinking about the situation. Never exasperating what they want to say, it is more what the people say that is captured and written amongst its paragraphs. I am very concerned with what’s going on in our country and in the world, and the politics of it all, but I have been away from it for a long time because I just find it hard to believe on corporate platforms such as Fox News etc. The guardian has inspired me to keep up on current events, and the fact that I can turn on my phone, which I rarely use for anything but email, contact, and paying an occasional bill. I do not use it for social media to which I have been off for over a year. It is very calming to be able to wake up in the morning and read the guardian, and get on with my day, and reflect, and not be upset because there are 10 different opinions coming at me. The complexity of simplicity is something to be appreciated. The guardian has gone above and beyond, and I support them 100%. I think it would be quite a flux for readers, and genuine minds that want to know what is going on in the world to invest in this fine fine new platform.

The pages are difficult to read. The design is cramped. It's like buying coffee in an American supermarket. Hard to concentrate. The font is too small. There is little variety. It's always the same people writing about the same things, and basically saying the same thing over and over again. I feel like you have gone overboard with using color. It reduces the gravitas of the site. Try to organize the site into "interest groups." Politics, culture, art, Tories, Labour, and then have sections for England, Wales, N Ireland, EU, the US, etc. The current mish-mash style is confusing and annoying. Try not to keep popping up every minute with asking for donations. It's annoying and counter-productive. I think you can do better if you have guest writers every week. Every article I read is thrown in my face with a running total to "contribute." When you resort to this kind of vile guilt trips, then it's not really going to be a contribution, is it? Stop harassing your readers. If free access is a problem for you, don't make a option. There are thousands of other free sites one could access if one doesn't want to pay for your subscription.

Poor UX, UI and IA. Guardian team, I love The Guardian, I really love The Guardian. You app is making me hate using The Guardian. I get it, you want users to upgrade to premium, and so you give prominent call-outs to part of the experience non paid users have no access to. But placing the hamburger in the bottom right isn’t a natural pattern. And creating more prominence for premium features than the nav is ridiculous. Please fix the nav, it just creates such a poor experience. Once you’ve fixed the Nav can you take a deep look at IA. The visual information hierarchy places important stories on dark grey backgrounds, and further down the page less important stories on bright white. Red headlines aren’t accessible on grey. Then the interaction paradigm. Left and right are taken by your paid features. But hamburger opens a drawer on the left which is different. Put both paid features on the right and keep the left for Nav. Or find a new way to invoke paid features, don’t duplicate. Lastly can you fix the type ramp?? I counted 10+ weights and sizes. It’s really off-putting to the eye. If you fix all of this I promise I’ll pay, just give me visual calm , be organized, thoughtful and intentional about elements. Let the words and images sing.

Still the best. I was introduced to the Guardian newspaper when it used to be called the Manchester Guardian. By my dad. Enoch Powell was bleeding Britain out of its moral compass, Cliff Richard and the Beatles were ruling the waves. Tony Greig was leading the English cricket team. Since then I moved countries and occasionally lost touch with my favorite broadsheet . I would occasionally scour the sidewalks of Calcutta and pick up a seven-day old Guardian that would cost me my entire week’s pocket money. I would keep it by my pillow, till the week after. And then came the internet. The Guardian has been my go to site every few hours on my iPhone. As if my small hands were made to hold the Guardian all the time. Please continue the excellent journalism and writing. Thank you!

The cost is prohibitive. If I want to vary my reading, I cannot pay over $150 for every news outlet I like. NYT and WAPO both offer annual subscriptions under $40 (if you try to cancel), and I just got a year of the Economist for $100, and I consider them the gold standard. I really like the Guardian, but I can’t justify paying 50% more than what I pay for the Economist. How does my price complaining relate to the app? Well, the app generously lets you read for free, but constantly reminds you that you are reading free. Every single article comes with an overlay telling you how many articles you have read at their expense. I should also mention, the price I am willing to pay for a news journal is directly proportional to their self-restraint in expressing political bias. Thats why I would happily pay 3x more for the Economist over NYT and WAPO. Economist is up front about it’s views but writing style makes a clear distinction between those views and their facts. NYT and WAPO get some great scoops but the degree of bias is at times almost sickening. Guardian does a lot better job than those two, but not so good that I would pay the premium I am willing to pay for pure unpolluted news.

Redesign gets an F.🔥❌ Newspaper still an A+! ✅💯. UPDATED. Glad to be reminded of the Edit Home Page in Settings! It lets us remove sections that don't have a Hide button — and even better, to delete them entirely from the screen! 1️⃣ We're still disappointed in the new design, though. You've abandoned a clean, inviting, headline-news focused layout that had variety. Imposing a scrolling set of articles and columnists at the top was distracting, especially as there wasn't a Hide button or a reminder of the Settings option to delete it. We want news headlines, not photos of columnists! Fortunately, we can delete that section entirely.✅ ——>> 2️⃣ Overall, the new layout suffers from being too square — an industrial two-column, standardized grid that's off-putting — and hardly in the The Guardian spirit! The names of the topics — and the titles of opinion pieces — are now in a lighter, weaker, smaller font that's harder to read. There's also too much white space around the headlines and blurbs. The old layout was far more readable, newspaper-like, and inviting ——>> 3️⃣ You still don't let us add our own sections to the Home page! I would like Astronomy & Science there, but no go. The My Guardian tab is not an alternative as it remains a page-spanning left-right, uniform, blocky design rather than a newspaper layout. ——>> 4️⃣ Using the “Hide” button to hide *YOUR* predetermined sections on the Home page remains makeshift. It still leaves a page-spanning banner with the section's name! Worse, several of your PRE-CHOSEN sections — e.g., “More Features” “More Sports” — don't even have a Hide button! They're still there even when we *hide* “Features” or “Sports”! In what world does that make sense? Here, again, the Edit Home Page option comes to the rescue. Yay! ✅ ——>> 5️⃣ However, from that settings page, we should be able to reorder sections as we see fit. Please respect your readers and let us customize the Home page to our liking! ———>> 6️⃣ Overall, The Guardian remains a fantastic, informative, high quality newspaper — it's being undermined, however, by the app's industrial layout and need for greater customizability.

A Worthy Read. For U.S. (California) readers, this paper provides a news and social perspective of America welcomely different from that of home grown newspapers. Opinion pieces, editorial cartoons, style and emphasis typically have a refreshingly “foreign” take to them. This applies not only to the U.S., but news of the world at large. A fine addition to your other reads. (On the other hand, if you’re lucky enough to still have a local newspaper, cherish it and keep that subscription. Where else to find Saturday’s Little League scores, or revelations of which City Hall politico recently got their knickers in a twist, or raided the public purse?)

It’s another point of view. The Guardian provides a different point of view when compared to most US newspapers. The two things that Americans should understand are that, of course , it is an English paper, so many aspects of American life, culture and politics which seem so “normal” and therefore unremarkable to us may seem strange and even inconceivable to British people - even those who know America better than Americans themselves. A good example is our continued inability to get up the gumption to place any sort of restrictions on the possession or use of firearms. The other salient aspect of The Guardian that American readers should be aware of is that its editorial slant is decidedly liberal-to-Left-Wing. This doesn’t make their reporting inaccurate or their columns and editorial commentary necessarily seem wrong-headed or unreadable by conservatives, but conservative and libertarian readers should prepare to have their view of things to be challenged at times, to put it mildly.

Essential news service. I couldn’t have survived the pandemic without the Guardian by my side. The only minor annoyance is the plea for donations (not too annoying since I LOVE that the weekly mag doesn’t have ads), and the fact that even if you are on a monthly donation plan, the app doesn’t consider this to be equivalent to an online subscription (which, to be fair, it isn’t). So I get most of my reading done via the snail mail paper copy we subscribe to, and just top off at the app. Room for improvement: pls improve the app search algorithm. If I am searching for an article or book review I’ve already read in the hard copy magazine and I know the key words or names, half the time the article won’t let itself be found via the app search engine no matter what I do. Sometimes this can be resolved by googling the article in question, and sometimes not, but either way it’s very frustrating. Still overall, great app, and I’m glad it’s out there making the world a better place!

How to use the app. Maybe I have to confess that I am not the most tech savvy person in the world, but for that reason, I would like to know how to make a better use of The Guardian app. I think it’s complicated, I would love to hear the podcasts and more “live” news, but I am still struggling with that all! The Guardian is my favorite and (I think) most reliable source for the world news, but if You would ask me what I wish, I would say a podcast or simply “instructions” to use this app!! I still could not figure that out!

The Guardian is no longer caring for its readership. Guardian along with Truth Out is how we now old hippies got our new on-line news after the 1968 news black-out in this country, still in effect … but think I need to stop my tiny monthly contribution to The Guardian as it’s now demanding a $10 monthly subscription to its commentary on the news… seems like the only way to get actual news these daze is from people one has met in traveling the world… haven’t been able to buy what’s left of the London Sunday Times in this country since the 9-11 disaster… Obviously the Guardian like everyone else wants more money, but for us old retirees… Too sad, too bad, is this good-bye? Also, I appreciate that the app shows a green check mark to more easily see which articles I have read. Now that articles remain on sites for days, it’s annoying to scroll through the same articles I’ve seen/read/no interest many times. Graying out articles or removing them all together would allow more even more efficient review of articles. I may even read more articles if I didn’t need to spend time rapid scrolling/skipping through previously read articles over and over again.

The Guardian has Facts in Headlines. Major media outlets fall into the editorial trap of softening headlines. In an attempt to seem impartial and tell both sides, they leave readers wondering what the point is, what is fact, fiction or all just a matter of opinion and perspective. Media companies do not need to give a voice and broadcast platform to anti-democracy forces. In today’s noisy, fast paced digital landscape, plain language that states the facts is needed. Lies need to be called lies, not couched and given credence as “beliefs.” The Guardian consistently delivers a fact based through-line from their headlines to the last period in their reporting. It’s refreshing.

The Manchester Guardian. Oh! All of a sudden you recognize the greatness of the paper you are reading. It’s the Manchester Guardian. It hasn’t hidden its worker-supporting nature in 200 years. I don’t know what life was like for workers in coal-smoked factories of the Manchester of all of our imaginations, but yes, this is that paper. Someone always has to prove that the poor have brains or taste the ability to appreciate art. The brains role fell to the Guardian. It is not privately owned. There are no shareholders. It is supported by its readers. It has never had to hide its left-leaning editorial bent, just prove that the people who read it are very capable of understanding it. The Guardian is a flame that cannot be put out. It is beholden to no one and respected by all. Make sure you donate.

Better than most newspapers in the US. During the pandemic I signed on to a few new subscriptions ensuring that I would never run of articles to read and subjects to discover. The Guardian was the best of all my discoveries and I continue to be impressed by the timely and well researched news as well as the wonderful information about books, food, theatre, art exhibits, and other forms of culture. Though I’m not a fan of reading on line I find the Guardian’s online version to be better than any newspaper in the US. Since subscribing myself, I’ve given a few gift subscriptions, a high compliment.

New Logo is Heartbreaking in Otherwise Stellar Publication. The Guardian is a refuge for many of us Americans. It is a comfort to read actual news and the mobile app functions brilliantly with a layout that looks great and is easy to navigate. But why, oh why did you feel compelled to change your logo? Why? That’s all I can ask. It’s one thing to update a look - see the extraordinary job Slate just did. You should read the hows and whys of Slate’s completion of the update. It took place over a L O N G period of time but everything about it was, indeed, an improvement. It’s another thing to change your brand. What you had was a logo that was iconic. If you wanted to color it black, fine, but what you did was replace an icon (in the true sense of the word) with an ugly ‘update’ that looks cluttered and very much like an elementary school class project did it. Did you pay someone for this sad scribble or, perhaps, the big boss has a grandson (no granddaughter would ever create something so uninspired and forgettable) who is dabbling in graphic… well, one hates to call it design, but there it is. Just go back. Do it quickly while it’s not so painful. Make it black if you must and I promise we will never mention it again. I would loved to have given you five stars but not with this very badly managed process of ‘design.’ It does not bode well for the future of other, truly vital aspects of your magazine. When management starts screwing around with solid components of a whole, it’s usually not long before there is nothing solid left.

Important Objectivity - Integrity in Truth. As an American living while watching the upside down politics and perpetual chaos in the states, even the reputable news outlets often feel like insidious repetition puppets; I have great empathy for the excellent journalists repeating the same old stuff daily while exposed to abuse by their President. Fox Entertainment is not in their league, not even close. Fox is simply a bully pulpit for the right wing Patriarch agendas. For those who choose to never leave their own backyard literally or figuratively they have found their traditional safety net at FOX. We know Rupert Murdoch and family laugh as they fill their pockets now; unfortunately, there’s always a balancing act be it this lifetime or another. Their contribution to the dysfunction of modern culture and progress will not go down unnoticed in the history books or higher realms of accountability. I also have compassion although it’s ‘detached compassion’ for the employees and headliners at Fox. It feels as though they have truly sold their souls and ‘can’t see the forest for the trees’. So, we must look to other resources and seek truth and wisdom where we can find it. The Guardian is my first choice for information at home and abroad. Thank you. I know it takes great effort to offer this service to the world.

Reading the Guardian. I don’t who will read this. I find the Guardian’s ability to include reporting, analysis, reflection and comparison within the same piece constantly refreshing. In the US the ‘serious’ papers separate reporting and analysis. The front page carries the facts without comment although the subject matter may imply treason and an existential constructional crisis. You have to wade through to the opinion sections on back page (pace NYT) for any analysis. Even then, it is a week later and, in order not to appear biased, they include pieces from either side of the fence, no matter where in the swamp the fence has been erected. Some stories - the role of Russian and other oligarch money floating the US property and fine art markets - hang around in plain sight for decades without being reported. When the festering sore breaks the surface, it is with with instant shock and horror - but that is another subject.

Inter-active. Thank you for this app. I enjoy ready many of your articles which are clearly written, easy to understand, and relatable. I have a suggestion to make it better. I would love to see news apps like this become more interactive like Reddit, or Facebook by providing the opportunity for a reader to vote with a like or dislike or uninterested as well as the chance for readers to leave comments on articles or even Follow a specific news story or topic with notifications when a new article about the story or topic is published. I think that would be amazing and make your readers feel more like they are a part of the news.

Great app with one flaw. As I said, I do like this app. I have the subscription to support them and so I don’t have ads, layout it nice, easy to use. However I have one gripe, minor as it may be. I often read on my iPad, 12.9 inch, and It bothers me that the body of the articles don’t fill to the right, or expand . If I have the iPad in landscape for example, text of the article centers and only 50% of the screen is utilized. I understand this is a small issue, it doesn’t hinder me from reading the articles or anything, which is why I still gave 5 stars. But if a dev happens to see this, I can’t be the only one with OCD that thinks about this every time I use the app!

Throttled content = deleted app. I subscribed to the guardian in 2020 because they did good work and didn't report false information. I stayed subscribed until a few weeks ago when you announced you'd be raising your prices. And then today, imagine my surprise when I found out we are limited in the number of articles we may view in the app. You have to pay an additional subscription to use the app to access the same articles that are free online. No. I was willing to pay you every month for absolutely nothing because you do good work, but when you strong army like this nonsense, not only did I unsubscribe, I deleted your app. This is total garbage. really disappointed. You were getting five dollars a month out of me for absolutely nothing, now you get zero. Thanks for driving this customer away.

Thanks for the consistent quality. It’s exhausting the follow the news these days and even more exhausting when you find out the people telling you the news are manipulating you in every direction. I first found The Guardian in print while on a visit in the UK, and the closest thing I could compare it to was the New York Times but so much better. 15 years later, looking back, I feel very certain saying that no other news organization would have informed me as well, and as broadly across the globe, as The Guardian. I donate when I can, wish I could give more, and hope folks who can do so, and help keep this diamond in the rough going for all of us. We’ll have a better future for it, I can confirm.

Great redesign!. I love the new redesign! I had mostly stopped reading after the last redesign a few years ago - the light weight font (especially in white text over magenta half-device-width squares) was really hard to read. I also found it cartoonish, but the main problem was I couldn’t read it. I went from a daily reader, to just checking occasionally for balance against my other news sources. The new design is bold, more serious, and easy to read. Thank you for respecting my larger type preference. I’m back as a reader! I have ignored, with some guilt, your donation requests. Going forward I’m happy to donate, as the format now allows me to enjoy your valuable content.

Reliable, Pertinent, Professional and Desperately Needed. In these “fact free” times where many celebrate, encourage, create and disseminate misinformation, The Guardian is one of the few remaining beacons of evidence and research in this world. I use multiple sources of information to try to confirm news and information for myself. The Guardian is at the top of my list for reliability and pertinence. The Guardian also gets high points for the increasing courage required in these threatening times as one attempts to seek the truth. I appreciate that the Guardian doesn’t try to distract me with trivial entertainment type fluff stories.

The US Through a Global Looking Glass. The Guardian provides exactly what Americans need to help take our blinders off. While traveling over the years throughout Europe and Mexico, I've been able to see first hand from a perspective outside the US what the term 'ugly American' really means. Trump embodies that humiliating, but not inaccurate summation. By removing the rock under which far right racist and religious extremists hid, he's brought our dark underbelly into the light. That truth has brought heartbreak and shame to progressives not only during this Trump autocracy, but for a lifetime. We love our country, and are not True Believers, but its true patriots. In our determination to rout Trump and his MAGA cult out of office, we can only hope the world will finally understand by our example that Christian Nationalists and Evangelicals do not represent the majority of the American electorate. The eligible voters are under a third, the majority of which are generational descendants of the Confederate South. Consciously or not, collective rage at their loss still fester. It's not an exaggeration to expect, when asked, that a frightening number would see no problem in bringing back slavery. Please forgive us, Guardian readers. We are a democratic republic and social democracy. We, as liberals and humanitarians, vow to bring a correction to this political aberration we're suffering through now. After November of this year and November of 2028, there will be a sea change, a tectonic shift in our political system. We owe it not only to ourselves, but to you and to the world outside our wounded and debilitated United States. Then the healing can begin.

I’m not a subscriber. I want to ,but.. The articles are well balanced, they ring true. The editorials are well balanced. I feel I can trust what I’m reading. Give me the information and I can can make my own decisions. So why don’t I subscribe? The online format of the links is why not, there’s an article on something I want to read so I tap the link and it sends me to another screen with more links none of which seem to reference the article or news item I wanted, which one to I tap now? I can scroll, I’m happy to scroll. KISS, I’m stupid, keep it simple.

Great content. I love the guardian, the content is always great and I truly believe this is the best news service out there (with ABC a close second). But I do have to take one star off because of the formatting, the layout is unpleasant to the eye and the font makes it hard to scroll through stories. It seems very clunky in comparison to other apps. If you spend some time on the ABC news app, then look at the guardian app, the contrast between the two is quite stark with ABC news miles ahead in layout and format.

Balanced coverage. There’s a wide range of reporting across world issues as well as local priorities. Unlike hard right wing ideological reporting from some “ alternative facts” based media, the Guardian frequently refers to back up material in the public domain for context & validation. There are opinion articles obviously but they aren’t dressed up as “ reporting” & are identified as such. I wish the extreme right wing media would do the same but there’s little chance of that I fear!

More trusted journalism. With a background of Murdoch Stokes and Costello’s often divisive right wing echo chamber, apparently hell bent on maintaining structural power in this country, you have to stick around for democracy’s sake. It’s a big job but please don’t give up in reporting the truth. In this country trust in mainstream journalism unfortunately feels rare, so when we see the truth being reported and powerful people being held to account it restores some faith that good people are taking journalism seriously. Thanks always to those journalists who take their jobs of reporting the truth, seriously. (and any chance the likes of Guardian Australia, Saturday Paper, Independent Australia, The Shot, Crikey, The Conversation, The Newdaily could band together to form a free to air channel?)

The bigger picture. I began my new world of online phone reading of the Guardian and other news services in 2020 when, just as the bushfires finished and Covid struck, I found myself with a sold home and an acquired responsibility for a beloved aged family member who was going into dementia. I could secure a temporary home for her, but ended up renting a tiny room, 2.9 m2 square plus bathroom for myself, albeit with a kind stranger… The Guardian became my intellectual stimulus and challenge when I woke up, and my solace and cultural joy before bedtime. My worldview has expanded, my preconceptions confronted. In the 2 years of a suspended life, awaiting the building of a home for my dependent and myself, I learned to grapple with new perspectives and hitherto unrecognised realities. I grew to appreciate the nuances of truth, and the array of persuasive advocacy of world class journalists who are passionate, aware, and bold in their reporting. Finally ensconced in our new home in December 2022, I am addicted to The Guardian. There was -an is - a Bigger Picture. Thank you!

None so blind as those who do not wish to see.. Reading small “independent” honest news feeds they always seem to acknowledge, “as reported in the Guardian” so I am thinking why don’t I just get it straight from the Guardian, which I do. The Guardian allows me to filter out unwanted information like sports results, gives emphasis to my countries news plus important world news. I read it online first thing in the morning then off to coffee and a Murdock press news paper. What a revelation, totally different slant on the story or not even a mention of a world news headline. But heroic Donald Trump did get Mrs Smith’s cat out of the tree with the assistance of the National Guard.

Reasons to read the Graunaid. Reading Private Eye while living in the UK during the tempestuous Thatcher regime in the 1980's I became addicted to the fine journalism and fearless reportage that was so devastatingly mocked by Private Eye . Having been a subscriber to the paper version for over twenty years my week is enhanced by the cross words and mathslanca is missed. At times I have felt great annoyance at the reporting of environmental issues as the elephant in the room overpopulation and birth control is very rarely discussed when talking about climate change, animal extinction, pollution of the rivers, lands and seas. I do feel that some of the reporters are definitely inner city cat owners but as I am an environmentalist living in the bush I don't hold it against them.

Good App, but..... Have been a Guardian reader for more than a year, and thoroughly enjoy your news. I don’t, however, enjoy the recent new design which is like a tabloid. The most off-putting issue about the Guardian, and which makes me hesitate about re-subscribing, is the ability given your readers to write anonymous comments. If they are about books, music or medicine, lovely: comments are knowledgeable and kind. About almost anything else, comments tend to become viciously unkind and vituperation is rife. Anonymity is, of course, the key to this ugliness. For me, it ruins the Guardian.

A great alternative to conservative Murdoch Media. The Guardian has integrity. They listen to science and facts. They are independent and free from political and commercial interest. They just give you real investigative journalism that matters. I HIGHLY recommend that you use them as your main source of news within Australia and around the world. Also, throw them $5/$10 every few months to help them keep the service free. It doesn’t break the bank and it’s a small price to pay for upholding free and fair journalism, which is integral to every democracy.

Layout, links, local content. I’m an online subscriber. I read the Guardian for the journalism having cancelled a lifelong subscription to The Age after its decline became irreversible. However you make it very hard to be a reader! 1. I find the layout and presentation of the paper annoying and unnecessarily difficult to navigate. The landing page is too crowded and busy. 2. I know, courtesy of other online publications I read, that there are Guardian articles of interest to me which do not appear in the material presented to me in the app/website despite me having identified their subject area in my preferences. 3. I get notifications of stories which, when I click on them, take me to the landing page instead of the story. Couldn’t you just have a daily edition similar to the Saturday Paper with an index of all articles sorted by subject? 4. Finally, a sports content beef; The Guardian is now a national Australian daily but the coverage of Australian Rules football, our indigenous national game and the most popular national team/ball sport at professional and community levels across most of the country, is virtually zero. The imported codes, rugby and soccer, are largely irrelevant outside parts of Sydney, northeastern NSW and Queensland but are the only ones getting regular coverage in the sports section 🥱 I’d like to see that change.

A publication to be valued. In the few short years that it has been in publication, the Guardian Australia has become distinguished as the only quality daily publication in the country. While the SMH bc and the Afe have gone down market, the Guardian has continued to provide well written, well researched reporting and opinion for a general audience. The one criticism that I would make is that unlike the Washington Post and the New York Times, the Guardian live news blog is not indexed and the headline often is not related to the blog content. This makes for very frustrating reading.

The truth hurts. Part Media Watch, part daily news online and laced with in-depth opinion pieces, The Gardian sometimes sits awkwardly in ones being. The stomach churns, the heart aches, the emotions run high but the eyes stay open. It is the opening of portals to truth, to trust, to connection with the world you inhabit and the web of social and political machinations that intersect throughout the human landscape that make it essential reading. As the world teeters on breaking point, it is vital that reality be conveyed honestly and with reverence and maybe just maybe we all together can avert the catastrophe that we all are part of and for this I sincerely thank The Gardian.

Great app. The Guardian provides international and local news. It’s independent and outstanding reporting. That’s what news used to be like. Despite being a subscriber, the latest update limited my access to 20 articles. Tried several times using the online help without success. Finally decided to sign out and log back in. It’s working again. Thanks for enlarging the panels for cartoons ! Keep up the good work.

Fantastic mobile experience. I won’t review the Guardian as a publication here because this is an app-specific review (but safe to say that it’s quality journalism). This app is very easy to use, launches quickly, and content is displayed in a way that makes it simple to get the news of the day. The “live” feature is great, especially in 2021 where there are often multiple live news blogs running at once. A joy to use, and one of the best news apps I’ve used — it’s actually worth using the app instead of just using the mobile browser, unlike many publications where there’s little difference between the two.

Excellent service. One of the few news services that have successfully moved with the times -the app experience is excellent. The free to all, pay if you can afford model, is a gutsy effort... I should have got behind this a long time ago. Balanced reporting on a wide range of issues is hard to find. The coverage of the Australian bush fire crisis has been excellent. Frequent articles, live blogs, clear summary updates, and fact checks have kept the world informed. The world’s a better place with the clear, un-biased reporting that the Guardian provides.

What’s this then? Not an advert, surely. As a news source, I trust the Guardian and I enjoy the way they show me the world, for the most part. No algorithmic feed, no echo chamber, always something interesting to read. My gripe is with this app. In every story there will be at least one section, maybe more, completely irrelevant to the content, encouraging me to sign up for extra stuff or pay for this app and get even more stuff. I don’t want to see it, and I don’t want to go there when my finger accidentally touches something. I already pay top whack for my subscription, and I am signed in so I can read all of what’s published. I am aware of the extra content and I subscribe to some but choose to avoid the rest. Why can’t I just read in peace, without more “engagement”, without these stupid orange boxes in the middle of the page, interrupting the flow and my immersion in the story. You know it’s me, you know what I signed up for, so respect my choices and leave me in peace.

No access to desktop/web. Great journalism and this app is a fantastic easy to navigate app. However, be warned, when you subscribe via the app/iTunes you are not actually subscribing with the Guardian and you will not be able to access your account on a desktop/web to view your account/subscription. After a few emails between different customer service representatives I found this out and was eventually hand-balled to apple to try to sort it out. The Guardians only solution to me was to purchase 2 seperate subscriptions to access the same information on this app and via the web.

Excellent journalism. Hello Good Guardian Folk Your journalism is par excellence. My main concern is the sustainability of your product. Presumably adverts underpin business viability. Donations send a mixed message to me. If you depend on donations then the product viability must be marginal? Which is a concern for journalists and readers. I presume that the dilemma is that you want big readership to attract advertisers; if you switch to subscription then readership goes down and advertisers are less interested to pay? I am a former economist, now retiree/pensioner, and appreciate quality journalism and an editorial policy that embraces good science, including climate science, good economics, good social values etc. You are in quite a different paradigm to News Corp, who continue to pay journalists to pander to climate denialists and alt-right politicians. I encourage you to maintain the timeliness, investigative skill, honesty and integrity of your journalism and editorial policies; civil society needs you and the planet needs you. Kind regards Glenn

Guardian. I find articles of facts tell the story. I feel confident of this. When opinion articles is the view of the author, I decide then, and form an opinion that may or not may differ. At least I have opportunity to form my own ideas . I find that is why other commercial media I cannot trust as I find less factual reporting. It depends what ownership of media political ideology it is. I enjoy reading articles of human interest and information. I would like to read more news, of human effects life is for refugees in different parts of the world. I like the crosswords as well,

When the evidence doesn’t lie. The Guardian is the most decent, objective and ethical source of news going around. It should be read in conjunction with all the other tripe that is masquerading as news reporting just so individuals can stay sane and maintain balance. Our community and neighbourhoods deserve the opportunity to break away and get informed news that is food for the mind not low slung stories and press releases dreamt up in communications rooms of government and businesses with all their vested interests.

Clear news without the pap.. It is encouraging to have a news outlet focussed on NEWS and not articles dressed up to look like news that are no more than promotions. Worse, the outright untruths peddled by the Murdoch conglomerate (note I haven’t called it ‘press’) are a blight on our society. Guardian is, like the severely weakened ABC, our last line of resistance to hold back the propagation of lies as normal fare. Keep up the good work - and you are allowed an open view either way and to make mistakes. We know they will be made honestly.

Very informative and accurate reporting, good entertainment valu. I get all my news and general information from The Guardian and it is perfect. I obviously can’t read it all but I find everything extremely interesting. I also love the comment pieces that are always dead right. Best news supplier and commentator! Sometimes the Guardian is my only information and I believe I get absolutely everything important going!

Mostly good content - Millennial, bad grammar, inconsistent. The left-leaning content is mostly good, well researched, timely, and objective — except when it’s not. Sometimes it’s just an overly casual, overly politically correct, style-over-substance, “live”, un-edited, mish-mash written by people who seem like they should know better and who are very sure they know what’s best for everyone. When it comes to grammar they’re a law unto themselves, ignoring conventions because they know better than all of us over 40. They don’t know that “likely” and “probably” are two different words, and they think we’re in a commonwealth lead by a prime minister rather than a Commonwealth lead by a Prime Minister. It’s nit picking I know, but it’s relentless — day after day. I just get tired of being lectured to when all I want is the facts reported without pomposity and superiority, and without incessant, deliberate grammatical errors because “that’s our style”. Ah. Coffee time... while I read The Guardian! (It’s better than the alternatives!)

Preferred Paper. I love reading the Guardian. Am kept up-to-date with news from Australia and around the world. Co-Vid reporting is comprehensive and enables me to quickly see where hot-spots are. I prefer to read when it suits me, rather than being swamped with latest notifications. I find the live section helpful and the only gripe I have are reminders for me to get a premium sub when I already have one and sometimes I have to log in to say I have an app sub. Keep up the great work.

My early morning wake up call. Coffee and The Guardian make getting up each morning a delight! Great, thorough news coverage; thought provoking long reads; some wonderful humorous articles; useful links to further information; award winning photos including remarkable wildlife pics that I share with grandchildren; great recipes and travel insights and, perhaps most important of all, courage to confront the most challenging issues head on! Thank you Guardian contributors!

Repairing a widening gap. The Guardian is growing to help repair the widening gap between what the ABC was, and what it has become under the defunding and pseudo censorship imposed by recent Federal Governments. It’s refraining from froth & bubble that is creeping into the ABC’s online content, and bolstering the decline of investigative journalism in all forms of current affairs, now under even more threat from the Nine Fairfax takeover. And then there is Sky News, which probably has to exist to show where the limits in democracy should be, but also to provide fodder for the slightly more respectable media to reflect on. I’m very relieved that The Guardian organization chose to establish the Australian arm. It may become the last bastion of quality media in our country.

Quality journalism on a diverse range of topics. It is such a relief to open this app each day to find well written, thoughtful articles, and not have to wade through junk news, click bait, and dodging ads that you accidentally click on while you’re reading. The app is seamless and the news is quality. The article referral algorithm isn’t too narrow and it’s great to have articles from around the world at your fingertips. There are lots of links in articles to help you find the backstory or previous reports. Great if you’re getting on board a particular piece of news late!

I love the Guardian. I can anyways rely on the words I read that’s there’s truth in the journos who work for the guardian . I absolutely cherish the story of how this great media org came to be ! I really would love to have an Aussie version of this but I suppose the Bulletin is as close as it goes and that’s only cause Louise Henry n Bango were in it ! Sadly the Bulletin is gone thank whatever god we still have the guardian ! Just love Katherine Murphy but the new editor is from buzz feed that bothers me somewhat ! Good for balance. I read The Guardian, Economist, Australian and ABC. By reading these 4, I feel that get a less biased perception of what might be ‘reality’. Guardian is mostly straight forward, but there is some strong left bias that forces me to read The Australian. I don’t have to read too many of the latter to know the view being forced on the reader. The ABC is barely tolerable with its click-bate leader lines that trap readers into reading something not promised. Unfortunately, the ABC can be well written and well balanced, but the untrustworthy click-bate makes it the last place I read. The Economist is my refuge for sober thinking, good scholarship, and the only place I feel sure I can feel confidently informed. But it’s not enough on its own, as they have biased articles where the persuasive language replaces balanced evidence. So, I need all four, and mostly my top three.

Love the Content hate the sport section. Love the content but the mechanics of the app can be frustrating, I don’t like sport, I don’t want to read about sport however about every 3 weeks or so I’ll be happily reading my chosen content until I come across the sport section inserted by god knows what I don’t like sport I don’t want read sport so I remove it till god knows what inserts again. So 4 stars out of 5 because of that. 2 of those stars are for First Dog on the Moon Only submitted a review because requested to do so

Best news provided in and of the World!. I’ve been kept up with the news of the world just about from primarily reading the Guardian daily! There are always excellent segments of news items that really matter in this day and age. The Guardian has been a major newspaper for years and it now is the same when online. Great news is good news even if some of it is bad news and, you don’t always do the crosswords!!

Keeping me abreast of the latest news developments. I’ve been a subscriber to the Guardian Weekly in print for many years. Often The Guardian will feature a news item that I see covered in less detail in local Australian newspapers a week or so later. The breath of information garnered from across the world is unparalleled in general newspapers available and makes these appear thin and lacking substance. Although some articles provide a level of information and detail that can be confronting to the point of a levelling reality check, I prefer to be informed about what’s happening in the broader world. I may not agree with the opinion expressed in every piece that’s written but the ideas behind the article can challenge my preconceptions I was previously not aware of.

Great App, ugly redesign. One of my favourite apps, read it every day, I even subscribe and pay them money because real Journalism should be supported - but i really don’t like the new redesign! And i mean REALLY. I’ve been reading news on line for years now - I don’t want my digital experience to try and mimic the jammed together old style look of a newspaper. I like clarity, readability, searchability and the ability to customise my reading. Can you pls consider making a version without all the 3 lined headers and stuff that makes it look old and tabloidy?

Something honest. The Guardian is unashamedly progressive. Its values reflect the values I grew up with. I don't always agree with the journalists but they are of a very high quality and their stories are based in fact and their opinions are independant. They don't follow the tabloid practices of spewing bile and toxin in order to attract readers. As a result it is the only newspaper I pay for, having boycotted all Newscorp product for a long time. Congratulations on your efforts, please keep up the good work.

Guardian: The Best News. I have subscribed to the Guardian for many years having first started reading as an undergraduate when it was flown out from the UK and printed on rice paper. A collectors item! These days my Guardian arrives weekly in my mail box and gives me a weeks excellent reading. I also have the Guardian App in my phone with alert notifications. You could say I’m a Guardian devotee. Thank you Guardian, you are the best. John Johns Halliday’s Point

Can afford one subscription in our household.. The level of advertising makes the Guardian unreadable unless you subscribe. I’m my household we can afford one subscription. Which I agreed my spouse will have. If I subscribed to the Age we would get one newspaper we could all read. I like the Guardian's approach to journalism but now can’t easily read it. I’m disabled and my recourses are limited. So thanks Guardian. You've become elitist and discriminatory as demonstrated by your actions. Moving advertisements flashing across the screen make it nearly impossible for me to read. Your stated objective of reaching as many readers as possible is simply not the truth. Disappointing.

Subject matter experts. Dear Guardian. I do enjoy reading he hot topics you uncover however would like to see more rigour in choosing your “subject matter experts”, ie. more than one and more than one opinion. In one area I have noticed a journalistic nativity, as a “SME” in food and fibre produced from agriculture which I have worked in my whole life.... so I figure there the strengthening of journalistic rigour might be needed in many other areas also. I realise it’s hard to get people who are good and willing communicators and secondly, actually have the depth and experience to report on a specialist field. Happy to help in the area of food, fibre and agriculture, market definition and ways to improve agriculture environmentally and draw from a pool of long term practitioners in the field. I do look forward to reading more of your interesting stories as they uncover myths being passed as fact. I would also like to help increase the farmer readership and belief of stories that they know to have the rigour needed for reporting reality. Best regards LM

Excellent app, top quality journalism. The Guardian is my main source of news and current affairs thanks entirely to this app - it provides in-depth and informed coverage and analysis of local and global issues and events, stories are presented in a format which is both intuitive and appealing, and I find the "save for later" feature especially useful. By subscribing to my favourite contributors - such as "First Dog on the Moon" - I get alerted to new stories, cartoons and features that are relevant to me. Of all the news apps I have ever used, this is my favourite, and in my opinion the single best source of news and current affairs available.

Good paper but cannot use app on other devices. Good paper, good information, a good read with a wonderful international smorgasbord of information and articles. So why only four stars? Probably because I feel a little miffed and tricked that after reading the guardians promos on using their subscription across multiple devices, I then found because I had downloaded the app then paid for the subscription through iOS subscriptions on my iPad I could NOT use it on another device at all. After contacting The Guardian I was told that the best thing is to pay for the subscription on their online site to get this benefit. This information should be provided by the guardian when they’re doing all the promotions for getting a subscription and making me feel (rightly so) guilty for not paying to read. tricky tricky!!

Pity about self-enrichment by trustees but great journos!. I’m a strong believer in non-corporatist media. Sources like NewsCorpse deliver political messaging desired by their billionaire proprietors. Instead The Guardian is run as a blind trust. My only concern is that long-term, it needs contributions from readers, and presently those controlling the trust concentrate on self-enrichment - paying themselves what the think they would earn if one of Murdoch’s national bosses (even though such henchmen are routinely thrown out). Any public charity where those running it are diverting donations to pay over-the-top salaries & benefits to the few, will encounter a pushback, and it is time that happened at Guardian management. They should put out to tender all senior salaried roles, as many in media would be keen to support charity, without draining it as much. On the other hand, the journos are not overpaid and do an excellent job!

What can I say.... Simply the best online daily newspaper around now. Not perfect, they have some biases, they can’t stand Jeremy Corbyn or Julian Assange and their biases become apparent after reading it a while. Their headlines can bear hardly any relation to the article below and sometimes incomprehensible sentences require reading and rereading to discover the word left out by mistake or how useful punctuation can be and the damage done to communication now and again by not “ proofreading” sufficiently. These instances are all rare in my experience. However they research events, investigate corruption and have writers who think about the implications of changes in politics and convey them well and often/usually impartially. Frequently I think The Guardian might even be changing the world significantly for the better. The have some very funny writers, good cartoonists, top thinkers in the world write articles for them. They have detailed long articles, “Long Reads” of terrific standard. They invest money in what they write and don’t just reprint press releases from parties they like, which seems to get more and more common elsewhere. A hugely diverse group of journalists write for them and they are financially independent. They appeal to a more left wing readership and as a result don’t need to lie to keep in with rich benefactors, which is a massive advantage as far as reporting the truth is concerned. How sorry I am that they have so little competition.

I can Rely on consistent accurate reporting.. Extensive coverage of local and global news is important to me. I am a Lismore resident and we have been suffering and cut off. My Guardian news covers our local situation in a very matter of fact way plus I get information about what is happening in other areas of the world apart from Australia. We have no NBN here at present but the Guardian App I can access via my mobile data. A little something that makes life here at present a little easier. Keep up the great work you are doing. It is appreciated.

Whew. How good is the Guardian? It is a life saver! Well it might be more than that. With most of the media gobsmackingly below anything representing what I always thought of news, the Guardian has raised the bar above the kind of relevance I once looked for in the Age. The Guardian has become my go to media not because it cheers me (some times I have to turn off, the news is so bleak) but because I have come to trust it as a group of people determined to tell us what is really happening. Go you good people!

Very informative. We need reliable newspapers like the Guardian to keep us informed about the different things happening in the World. It’s particularly important as there is a lot of fake news coming from social media these days that is very misleading. Good journalism has always been important as they are the ones that have uncovered terrible injustices going on in the World, such as when the Catholic Church were exposed for covering up the dreadful deeds of their priests who were sexually abusing young children (uncovered by the Boston Globe). Without good journalism injustices would stay hidden. We the people need to remember that.

Terrible for crosswords. I’m referring to the Australian edition. The news is fine. All the crosswords are British, which makes the cryptics impossible, unless you are deeply versed in historical and current domestic politics, culture, and sport. You wouldn’t find a crossword in a British paper with a cryptic reference to Doug Anthony being a Country Member so why would Australians commonly know which 1960s children’s TV host had the catch phrase “Blimey Winston” or who won the third division darts final three years running before appearing on I’m Strictly A Celebrity? I’d really like to see Australian clues, like Mungo used to make, if they need to use culturally exclusionary clues at all.

Best news app that I’ve got. This is my go-to news app, the one I use most often. It has good national and international coverage, but lacks some good local coverage. Easy to navigate, good current news coverage and features. My two main complaints are in the “Live” sections, which often lists a specific item that can’t be found in the detailed section; and a more subtle complaint of unsubstantiated or emotional adjectives (I often agree with the sentiment, but want justification, not just the statement).

Reading the news today. I first encountered the guardian while surfing in the Channel Islands and staying with a surfer friend who worked for a local paper there. He carefully explained how The Guardian was highly respected by journalists and I wondered if his career would take him there one day. When The Guardian appeared in Sydney I was curious to see how it performed but was disappointed by the coverage of the Covid epidemic. The Guardian redeemed itself several times a week by doing great stories on matters of interest to me because the details were accurate and advanced my interpretation of events. Some stories didn't really make the grade that it had set itself but that eventually gave me the message that there were often tough subjects in our troubled times. That in itself is news in my opinion. I like the New Yorker's zany humour and the Taipei and Straits times introduce new Asian writers . The coverage of legal cases is fascinating because their Courts disrupt their predictions often. I only mention this because I like the Asian approach to news and literature. I think they aren't so stuffy as the Western media. They do try to call for reforms that don't work well so one gets an insight into who is trying to call the tune. If I can't understand what our media is doing I do turn to The Guardian to find out what is really happening. So thanks for the chance to tell you how The Guardian makes my life more interesting. Media diversity.. In Australia, the liberal government gave news corp almost complete control over print media. Other media is controlled by right wing ideologues, basically we now have Murdochracy, instead of democracy. The Guardian provides a crucial service to balance the narrative because there is no other voice of sanity, except for niche outlets. As a pensioner I wish I could contribute more money, for the climate appeal. Keep up the great work.

Wonderful journalism, terrific perspectives. The G offers an increasingly rare insight into quality perspectives of mainstream issues, as well as sprinklings of the esoteric. Thanks to the great journos and staff that show their dedication, thought and skills in expression. I am pretty often let down by the readers effort at tackling the same issue, with the comments section showing possibly the worst standard of communication of expressed thought/opinion of mainstream publications (Australian, Age). I guess it demonstrates how hard it is to communicate clearly with respect, so a further thank you to the staff. On a purely technical issue, I have tried long and often to log in using my membership across multiple platforms, only to fail. I do get frustrated by constantly being asked to subscribe, when I have. But I accept, it’s a minor issue in the scheme of the issues this world faces.

Guardian Reader. What dies the Guardian do well? In my view, it has great Travel, Culture, Tech, Lifestyle sections. Up to date and interesting. The political opinions are generally sound (Katherine Murphy special mention) and as everybody knows, generally support the progressive side of politics but not in that rabid blinkered way, it’s more open to nuance. The only area that I find personally difficult to enjoy although I am trying. Keep an open mind and all that, is the social research side written by mainly overseas feminists where men are continually painted as sexist soldiers of the patriarchy just waiting for the opportunity to maintain their sacred privileges. On balance, The Guardian provides an important balance of media in Australia where the overall print media is still dominated by right wing anti science rags.

Excellent journalism. Latest update massive fail.. First class, reliable and progressive journalism is evermore important these days. I check the Guardian periodically throughout the day as it is updated regularly. The app is a well designed and a breeze to navigate. WAS well-designed! UPDATE: Suddenly went from 5 stars to 2. Saved articles have all been removed. A recent bug fix has addressed the earlier problem of no longer being able to save articles - except all articles removed were not restored.

And I’m Intelligent Too. I’ve read the Guardian since I used to scrabble the soft pages of the airmail edition of the Manchester Guardian from my mailbox. I started my subscription to keep me up to date with UK politics but the content soon surpassed that limited aim and became my most reliable source of international news, the arts, humour and contemplative thought. And best of all, you treated me as an intelligent individual. On returning to the UK I enjoyed much of the weekend with coffee and the Guardian strewn around me. And now back in Canada I appreciate the ease of the App, though I do miss the leisurely reads. My son solved that problem by subscribing to The Guardian Weekly for me! Much appreciated. Throughout I’ve relied on your careful, trustworthy reporting. I don’t always agree with your opinion pieces nor are you my only source of news but, over 50+ years of reading, you’ve brought me more good reading and intelligent reporting than other news outlet. Thank you.

Limited articles per month. App used to be great. Now there is a hard limit unless you pay $100+ a year. The website is still free. Deleting the app.

State Stenography At it Finest!. It’s great for keeping track of the propaganda line on many issues, most notably Ukraine and Israel. Then take that to actual trusted sources and you can really see what real reporting is not anymore. Keep up the conformity Guardian, it makes me feel nice and warm like being in the middle of a herd!

True journalism. This is by far the best news website - true journalism & a variety of content.

Previously a quality paper. The guardian used to be an interesting and intelligent view from the political left of centre but now it is full of what can only be described and cultural “wokeness”. Write in about your partners sex life ? Really, how tabloid does one need to go ?

Guardian keeps kicking me off App despite $8 monthly contribution. No it’s not the full cost of a subscription but it’s pretty close and is what I can afford as a pensioner. New design terrible. Can’t load new photo-heavy design. Have to keep deleting and re-installing. Love the Guardian but won’t pay for this.

Lefties, silly mid off and outstanding graphics. Despite a tendency- I guess it’s just by genetic default- to veer to the left and sometimes embarrassingly (Margaret Thatcher is long gone and she did, by - the - way win successive majorities presumably voted in by the British and by so doing, save the U.K. from complete self immolation) .. oh where was I? Oh. Yes, the Guardian... The range and quality of arts reporting is truly outstanding. The respect, time and analysis of fine arts is second to none. The care and attention to photography especially is absolutely first rate. Architecture. Wonderful. The world overview is excellent. Sports seems very good too. But I’m Canadian so I can’t really comment but weirdly I have found myself trying to decipher an article on cricket. Silly mid off? What the hell is that? The outstanding graphic design of your app and interface is masterful - so clear, and easy to navigate. Well written introductions and overall consideration given to the way news writing is truly integrated with art direction means that the full vocabulary of typography, colour, photography and graphics work seamlessly with narratives, to deliver the news with a thoughtful punch. Keep up the good work.

The most trustworthy news source I know. The guardian is where I go to learn about what is happening, knowing that it is the most unbiased journalism on offer. There are brilliant writers who write incisive and often hilarious perspectives. Reading it I feel grateful and also a little safer knowing there are people able to see through what is happening and write comprehensively about it. Thanks for your work.

Can’t use since last update. I like this app and varied articles, but it now only supports iOS 16, and my iPhone 7 is too old. Very disappointing, as I can’t even download the app.

Great app. Excellent. Better content and news assessment than most other news apps.

Please enable it for Mac. Great app, but I’d love for it to be available for my Mac. Generally if you’re not using any whizzy hardware features, it’s just a matter of changing a setting to allow it.

All the news that's fit to print.. I have subscribed to the New York Times, the Boston Globe and the Globe and Mail, the Guardian is more interesting and provides more variety than any of them. You can sign on every day and be engaged by everything from political commentary to food and travel, with some voyeuristic options in Lifestyle if you are on a diet and have had enough articles on what is wrong with the world.

Another mainstream media paper. Anyone reading this paper needs to bear in mind that ultimately, its reports on international events and opinions are biased. While it has stated its independence, it is not truly independent in anyway safe for perhaps requesting for finance from the readers. Often than not, you will notice that opinions on China and the wars always follow western governments’ narratives that you get from all the others. I recommend all readers to be very skeptical of the opinions and reports from the Guardian.

Not so useable on iPad. Love the contents but on the iPad, images often disappear while scrolling and sliders to compare before/after images do not work (using the slider changes page instead of revealing the picture) Please fix!

Disappointed with article titled “Sobering and Alarming.. I opened up the Guardian on my tablet this morning to review the various headlines. After reading a few articles I came to the one titled Sobering and Alarming - Younger people more likely to doubt merits of democracy. The accompanying picture was PRIMARILY the picture of a woman’s breasts with her holding a ballot in her hands. It didn’t even show her face, thus she , a real person casting a ballot was reduced to a ‘ pair of breasts”. The picture not only objectified her and every other woman but diminished the seriousness of the article ! So, Guardian editors who was this picture for? Not me, I’m a woman and sadly, I decided not to read the article. I think the Guardian needs to have a serious review of how it presents itself and who is writing for !!

Intentionally misleading subscription model. They charge $30 for the Annual subscription which entitles you to absolutely nothing. If you want to use the app you have to pay $120 for Annual + Extras but they don’t tell you this openly, and there’s no way to get a refund. It’s not worth $120. Gave an extra star because only sociopaths read one star reviews.

Great news source, but the invisible article issue isn’t fixed yet. It uses a lot of iPad power, but it’s one of the best news sources. Unfortunately, the latest update didn’t fix the “disappearing article” issue which causes the highlight article in a section to vanish and maybe only re-appear if you scroll carefully. Needs to be fixed!

Constantly HARASSED to subscribe even though I made $50 donation! App deleted.. Harassment is the term that should be used for organizations like The Guardian which seem to have no care other than subscribers! I am not working and yet still made a $50 donation a few months ago. That’s not enough? Then you have just lost me permanently. I will not even use the Guardian nor donate, even if I start working again! You’re contributing to the bad examples set by the very media companies with big rich owners, from which you think you’re setting yourself apart! Nope, you’re not!!!

Guardian can do better. I doubt anyone that matters reads this, but at least I have somewhere to vent. As a full paying member, I can not understand why I am constantly logged out of my Guardian account on my IOS devices. I am forced to to log in on numerous occasions. And if that is not enough, you are constantly being prompted about privacy settings. If I did not like the journalism, there is no way I would continue to pay for using this app. I fully support the Guardian and it’s mission. I have been paying for it for years and support independent journalism. But really? As far as app development, I feel you can do better and paying subscribers deserve better.

Sign in still doesn’t work. UPDATE / April 22, 2024: One year later, still having the same log in issues on iOS. Web login works. The new design is disappointing. The layout breaks badly, with some smaller articles’ pictures aligning to the bottom of some larger articles’ pictures, causing huge empty gaps between the article title and it’s picture. Why repeating the most read at the bottom of every page? It’s annoying, and serves no purpose. Way better to have recommendations for related articles, than the same list over and over and over. Can’t we check the most read in the Most Read section anymore? I used to read on the app on the iPhone and iPad every day, multiple times a day. With the persisting login issues, that’s not possible anymore. A pity. The app design and functionality doesn’t match the quality of the journalism anymore. UPDATE / April 5, 2023: I’ve updated to the latest version of the app that says log out issues were fixed, but ot still doesn’t work for me: My steps: 1. Delete the app 2. Download the app again 3. Sign in with email + password 4. Successfully logged in 5. Close the app 6 Open the app - the app asks me to log in again 7. Trying to log in using email + pass = getting a Something went wrong message, and a suggestion I might have changed my credentials 8. Go to 1 Meanwhile, I am successfully logged in on my iPad, and FF on iPhone SE 2021, iOS is up to date. Feel free to reach out if you need more info or want me to test, but please fix. —- Since having been forcibly logged out of the app after the new sign-in update a few weeks back, I haven’t been able to sign into the app again. I was hoping this update will address that, but alas, I still being greeted with the Something went wrong error message. I have no issues signing in on the iPad app and on desktop. I am a paying subscriber, so this issue is getting quite annoying. Can’t read The Guardian on the go anymore. It’s been weeks now. Kindly fix, please!

In-depth analysis and fresh articles. The Guardian is my morning go to site for news around the world. Despite following a couple of other news site, this one is my favourite because of the variety, depth and the exhaustive analysis provided in its articles and news reports. Sometimes it’s the only one that might have sone news none of the others provided, which surprises me and makes me thankful. Great job and keep it up!

Biased news. Biased British new agency that falls in-line with its colonialist peers, significantly dehumanizes Arabs.

Clear, Concise and Perceptive. I’ve never gotten so much out of a newspaper before having access to the Guardian. My husband and I would read Guardian book reviews and follow the course leading up to the Man Booker Prize award yearly. It took a cell phone to open up how much more the Guardian offers. Their journalists don’t just pounce and scribble about our current problems, but from reading, it’s evident that thought and réflection is given each issue that’s covered. Such a well done journal.

Review of a reader of the news. What The Guardian has achieved with this application is to show to what extent freedom of the press can go to in the modern world. To be a newspaper free off subscription and personal targeted advertisements is something that only a handful of newspapers have provided for their readers at the modern age. In all impartiality it must be said that the famously known leftist stance of The Guardian can be felt in their presentation of the news. But that just might be the reason that it has been highly popular at our time.

Real news. Real journalists.. So exciting to finally find a place I can call home. I am a woman ! tired to death of patriarchal reporting and misogynistic analysis. We are more than half of the world AND actually important. Thank you, Guardian, for hiring women—especially women of color—as reporters and giving them a voice. Women are interested in politics, science, medicine, economics, and education. We want less men’s sports blah blah and more important things that actually matter, like climate change. Keep up the good work !!!

No paywall. Honest and diligent leftward leaning news.. They hold themselves to high journalistic standards one of which prevents them from putting up a paywall. Journalism is essential I wish they would allow you to support them on a sliding scale. My current job situation won’t allow it. Only improvement would be a slide towards the center to fill the void in nuanced and democratically available (free) journalism. They are the last ones standing it seems and they lean so left. Download. Read. Support. Knowledge is our lifeblood and without free journalism we all die of ignorance.

Great app performance and design. Excellent news reporting. The Guardian’s app has always been very well designed for iOS. The app is very smooth and has a working dark mode, unlike some other news apps. The Guardian organisation has always had an excellent coverage of various issues around the world, including here in the United States. And finally, important coverage of vital issues isn’t locked behind a paywall during a time when this information needs to be spread widely by reliable sources like the Guardian. As a result, I am now a paying subscriber to the Guardian because I want to support that work and that attitude. I don’t do the same when information is held hostage for profit. 2020 is not the time for that. My big want: widgets. I want to be kept up to date on the top 1-3 stories in sections I’ve got set to download for offline reading.

Things left unsaid. Where are the stories about congress and senate salaries and perks . Instant retirement salaries in excess of 100k . No one is taking them to task and asking for them to pay for their health care . I waited until 65 to retire and still pay a portion of my health insurance. This corrupt bunch of no goods won’t ever care about working Americans. They continue to fleece the working class . While making laws to protect the wealthy and give them tax reliefs. Now a whole new bunch will shut down America . Call them out ,name them embarrass this new MAGA class . Your news feed would then be real news .

Why I read the Guardian. The Guardian allows me to access news that I feel is a break from the corporate press domestically. Their coverage of climate change is hand in hand with activism. Many of the links provided have been instrumental in linking me to networks engaged in social activism. It is this binding of journalism to action (theory/praxis) that is lacking in US print journalism. It tends to encourage apathy. In addition, the Guardian’s long reads I have archived on not a few occasions as their deeper treatment warrants reflection and I appreciate that. Providing perspectives from outside the States. Before each days news cycle repeats itself, it’s usually mildly enlightening to consider how differently the same events are reported from overseas. Major stories can be safely ignored or blandly devoid of context as seen from the closed loop of Beltway myopia. Other fascinating cultural moments can be overlooked by the almost completely US-centric mainstream media clones. We pass on The Grauniad Weekly to Gramma, as she does not enjoy much online action in her balanced media diet. Carry on, y’all

Pretty good most of the time. I could love this paper if they’d dump a few silly and unqualified “opinion” writers. They also run utter rubbish on some topics and then call it a “controversy” when it’s just a ridiculous bit of false equivalency. The science page itself is quite strong, especially Ian Sample. The Podcast has suffered from the loss of Alok Jah and the subsequent addition of some young women with horrible presentation skills. “Talk me through it” is not a substitute for interviewing skills. Thank goodness for Mr Sample. I hang in here for a few of the outstanding columnists; i.e., Jill Abrahamson and Richard Wollffe.

Minute by minute updates and multiple features bedside the news make it one of my daily reads. I didn’t even mind the price increase. Breaking news from all over the word, quirky features, interesting bits of public interest, advice, and the ability to look back in various subject areas make this a great news outlet. A little too liberal but otherwise a fine daily digest of world news.

Accurate, Insightful, Intelligent and Current. I live in California and read the Guardian online every day. Its reporting is accurate, in-depth, and current, and covers international, national, and even local news. I know no other free online newspaper that compares. (Donations and memberships are optional). It provides excellent, reliable coverage of a wide range of topics - politics, science, the environment, sports, the arts, health, and lifestyle, for example. Its current without rushing to judgment. The opinion pieces are always thoughtful and thought-provoking. For clarity in the tumult, I turn to the Guardian

A great read, in more ways than one. The Guardian, as a news source, is a great read. The reporting seems reliable and fresh. Points covered are often not the same old, same old that other sources spew, as if they’re barely rewriting a wire service story. Stories are a solid balance of international and national focus. The layout is visually easy to look at and follow, making it quick and simple to pick what I want to read. The iphone app is also reliable.

The Best: For One Reason. The Guardian is the Best news media, hands down, for one important reason. Nowhere else can you read up-to-the-minute, professionally composed journalism, filled with relevant information: And if you want to understand the issue more thoroughly, you can keep reading for hours by clicking on articles written in the past, now a part of history. The Guardian is for people who think.

Once towering, now craven. The Guardian was long a paragon of integrity abd progressive politics, penetrating reporting and dodgy spelling. Now, behind constant distraction lies its craven advancement of a covert neoliberal agenda. Since the Scott Trust took over this once noble institution has become a rag with frills. We still see the occasional good article from the likes of Monbiot, the sports pages glisten. But when you pay attention to the core message, the 2016 shading of Bernie Sanders’ campaign with all the attention on HRC, the current vomit of pro vaccination, pro lockdown tripe, one sees it for what it has become, yet another sheepdog neoliberal propagandist, that has been bought lock stock and barrel, Ford buying Landrover. All the remains is the badge and the storied history.

Good journalism, most of the time. I have been enjoying the free version of the Guardian for several years now, and i am very appreciative of it. In general, i find Guardian’s journalism solid and well-researched, documented and reported. Once again, for a free newspaper, it’s newsworthy by itself. However, and with sone frequency, Guardian posts some real stupid articles, completely off the mark. For instance, i do not read any articles of the theme “Trump said…”, especially making it a marque article, big lettering, etc Whatever Trump ever said was, has been and will be a lie. Please do not waste your energy on such articles, which have no value. And, my life is too precious and my brain not deranged yet to read such crap. I do not watch Fox either. Articles such that have stopped from making a financial contribution to Guardian, despite my appreciation of your journalism.

Generally good reporting. I appreciate the Guardian’s stories, reviews, editorials and varied points of view. I check the news first here as American sources lack in substance except the N. Y. Times. But all papers can be improved as they all have an agenda and either leave out or push specific stories. There are also many silly stories for the very bored plus ideas of what to wear or do if you have no imagination and need others to give you direction. I still miss Michael Tomasky where people debated issues which included Americans and Europeans point of view.

Guardian, a daily ritual. An easy to use newspaper app that you can use in Dark mode. I’d be lying if I didn’t fully admit that the guardian is my favorite English-language newspaper. That said, some of the columnists, like Arwa, get on my nerves mostly because of their anti-American leanings(while reporting on US matters) which are so thinly vailed, they become laughable and obvious. Now, the newspaper is handwringing because of its ties to slavery…maybe they’ll pay out reparations and, as a result, finally force subscriptions on all us interlopers….thanks for the good free ride while it lasted!

A odd fashion substantive newspaper.. Excellent journalism. Comprehensive world news and in depth stories, even series, on subjects illustrative of social or cultural trends - like police brutality in one California county or the Opiod Crisis or children bombed and starving in Yemen. It is a newspaper we need to keep alive. The Guardian, true to its name, keeps an eye on the world and informs us of what her marvelous array of reporters see and learn. Give money, whatever little or big you can. I give $25 a month, even as a social security fixed income 77 year old.

FIXED v11.5 app is stuck on privacy terms then crashes. Bug below is fixed! —- One of my main news sources and I’m a subscriber. Unfortunately since v11.5 three days ago the app is stuck on the privacy terms screen and selecting either option available to move past the screen causes it to crash. Unable to use the app at all, but my login still works for the web site.

Viewer history please. I love The Guardian and trust it as a news source in an ever eroding landscape of journalism. The user experience of the app would be greatly improved if there was a function to view article history. I rarely finish an article in one sitting and if I am away for too long or close the app I have no way of finding that article easily again without doing a search. Also would be helpful in sharing past read articles.

An International Treasure. An astounding range of reportage. I started reading the Guardian to better follow and understand Brexit. But I soon found myself selecting the Guardian as my first choice among two other US papers to get its perspective on US news and often discovering it beat the others in first reporting domestic developments. Some subjects have even gone uncovered in the US. I also admire your commitment to cover climate change. Plus your first rate opinion writers. The Guardian is an essential news organ.

Good site, great journalism. As I newspaper journalist in the US whose newsroom is experiencing one painful cut after another,I know how important for democracy keeping newspapers alive is. I subscribe to the Guardian fir that reason. I wish I could get the newspaper form actually but the site is good. My only complaint is the new version has the table of contents or menu button on the bottom right. It’s tough to get used to after so many years at the top left. Minor issue, really. one of the few trustworthy newspapers in existence. Excellent investigative journalism, and opinion articles with clear sources and contextual proof for news an international team reports worldwide. Independent journalism with full integrity thus objectivity, seem only possible if there's no stakeholder agenda laying underneath. All media owned by billionaires and/or wealthy shareholders have pivoted to infotainment and sensationalism to keep their audiences glued to their platforms ; that is in the best cases… in the worst case those platforms have become propaganda machines for the political agendas of their owners.

Useless - mandatory sign-in. I’d kept a subscription going to support one of the few non-rubbish news sources, but it seems they will prioritise customer profiling and the generation of marketing intelligence in their cash flow model so maybe they don’t need subscribers. Apparently you can be the customer *and* the product at the same time. I’ve cancelled my subscription. Sadly, that still means last 8 month of subscription down the drain. You can read headlines. Then again, you don't need the app for that. C-. Update: even after dropping your subscription and deleting the app, they will send you mails (forwarded by apple)

Valuable Perspectives Worth Considering. All narratives of current events are “biased” to some degree and The Guardian is no exception. However it’s worth noting that they do make consistent efforts to present reporting in a more “ balanced” framework than most news outlets and they present a valuable perspective from domestic English Language domestic news outlets to provide a sense of how American looks to the rest of the world which is information unavailable from most other sources. Well worth one’s time and support; an excellent news source.

The best I have found so far. A few months ago when I was looking for good journalism, and sampling different sources, I heard from a friend in Ireland that she always trusts the guardian’sViewpoint of what is happening in the world. With so much dis-informationAbounding amongst Conspiratorial dissemination of ideas, I have found the guardians to represent the best of the best. It is now my go to for whatever is happening around the world. I intend to continue my subscription. Thank you.

Disappointing Redesign. The new app is visually inferior. Fonts are bolded, making them blocky and heavy, letters atop each other with improper spacing. The color change is also bothersome: where cool blue predominated we now have reds and blacks. The excessive use of red (especially in the Spotlight section) gives an ugly vibe of Alarm. It used to be the headlines and content that gave reason to be concerned: now just scrolling through the app and getting hit with bold, red words causes anxiety. It seems a step backward. There’s also much more dead white space. Would love to see a reversion to cooler colors and crisper, unbolded lettering. The content here will keep me coming back but probably not as frequently or happily as before.

Hope for better days. I always considered Guardian as a independent, truthful newspaper . I became your newspaper believer while I was living in UK and now in USA. The recent events in the world and your editors unilateral writings had changed my mind . Sadly we don’t have free press anymore anywhere. I stopped reading American newspapers because of total loss of independence any real journalists need. The owners of the newspapers have become the editor in chief . Western world no longer can claim true journalism. Even the King’s son becomes under false attacks . I will continue to renew my membership hoping your editors can see the importance of broad evenhanded writing.

generally biased news. this shouldn’t be necessary, but i want to preface this review by saying i do not consider myself a supporter of any main political party; instead, my views are my own, and i like to consider the merits of all sides in order to make informed and carefully considered decisions. with that being said, it is frankly insulting how biased these news articles can be. every article seems to find a way to take a dig at republicans, which often they deserve. but i can make that decision for myself, i don’t need the columnists inserting their biases everywhere. if i want their opinion, i can ask them on twitter or i'm sure i can find an email. the content on here is not super thorough, but for a free news app you can usually get the picture. it’s just very frustrating to deal with the lack of integrity news organizations have these days. having been born in the 2000’s, i’ve never been able to find integral, honest news that doesn’t push biases, from any side.

Harsh design, solid reporting. I’ve enjoyed The Guardian’s reporting over the last couple of years, but just as I considered paying the monthly subscription to support their work, the redesign occurred. The announcement touting their new tabloid look was off-putting, and the color scheme chosen wasn’t any better. Why add to the stress of today’s news with an equally stressful red/black theme? The updated logo is bland, and lost the distinction of the blue icon, as well. I found myself opening the app and visiting the mobile site less and less, and now I’ll just delete the app from my phone. 5 stars for excellent reporting, 1 star for a harsh, unwelcoming design leaves me with an average of 3 stars.

I love the Guardian. I read the NYT, the Washington Post, the Atlantic, Apple News, Google News, Al Jazeera, DW and whatever else I find out there. Of all of those I love the Guardian’s selection of stories, I the variety of its focus, the personal stories, the coverage of the war and the coverage of the arts and science. I really appreciate the layout and design of the app, it has just the right combination of images and nicely designed easy to read headlines. I love the absence of ads which make so many publications just about unreadable..

Like Having a Brilliant Friend. This is a terrific news source. I read it first now, and it’s like a smart friend who’s always done the research and gives you a news story AND the background AND a fair-minded but able-to-be-outraged perspective. I started reading it because no other news source had so many reporters globally. I stayed because they’re right on top of breaking news AND they have a great arts section. Now I’m starting to find the recipes tempting ....

Another greedy news app going down the drain. I m not using Apple News for at least 4-5 years because their greediness, they want registration and subscription and the size of my shoes…so out of my Apple iPhone for which I pay anyhow a lot every 2-3 years. The last to use was The Guardian, which after yesterday update, jointed Apple News in greediness. I still don’t learn my lesson not to update because most of the time, these updates make the experience worse than before, doesn’t matter if it is iOS, windows, maps, any app news. Consequently, so long The Guardian. Make it public when you come back to your senses, maybe I will install you again.

The Guardian Is A Jewel In A Swamp. It is easy to forget that truth telling journalism is essential to any society. Governments and the rich and powerful kill and imprison journalists every year who expose their wrongdoings and corruption. Only when when wrongs and injustices and the dangers to people are brought to light do we have any possibility of solving these problems. Reading The Guardian one is reminded that many of those who bring us their reports and information, their stories and thoughts are following a calling. In following that calling, they inform and empower us.

Mediocre app. As apps go, this one could use some work. The content is wonderful, superb, at times the best anywhere, and easily among the best on a given day. The navigation within the app is dreadful. For example, there is no way to navigate from football tables directly to fixtures, the user must reverse directions to previous pages. It’s just one example, but it happens in every section. Also, opening the search tool requires several touches, “search” should be available on every displayed page of the app.

Great paper, currently unusable app. Ever since your latest update, I have been unable to use the Guardian app. Each time I open the app, it presents the privacy settings page, and once I choose an option, it crashes. I have reinstalled the app twice now, but with no improvement. As a subscriber to and avid reader of the Guardian, this situation is most frustrating. I hope that you will rapidly correct whatever bug is causing this.

Amazing!. I love the perspective that the Guardian provides. I lived in London for a year when I was 19 (50 years ago), and I still appreciate the view on America that I get from another country. Additionally, the reporting is first rate. The Guardian is conducting investigations and collecting statistics that no American newspaper is doing—indeed the FBI says it relies on the Guardian’s statistics to determine the number of gun-related deaths in this country (because the NRA funded congress doesn’t allow that kind of act by US government agencies!). I strongly recommend the Guardian.

My go-to source for news. The app works well on my iOS 12 phone. It’s stable and I find it easier to navigate than other online editions of print newspapers, e.g. The Washington Post. The journalism is reliably truthful and fact-checked. As well as in depth UK reporting The Guardian covers international news with less of an American slant than many English-language outlets. There are well-reasoned and interesting analysis pieces and longer form essays, often with excellent graphic design, although the more visually impressive pieces show up much better in a computer browser than in the app. Opinion pieces are still squarely in the progressive and leftist range. It’s pro-Labour but never just a partisan mouthpiece for the party. One change: The Guardian is no longer littered with the spelling mistakes and typos for which the print version used to be famous.

Interesting perspectives on the world. As an ex-Brit, I used to read the Guardian when I when in England. I vaguely even remember when it used to be called The Manchester Guardian; but I digress. This app is GREAT. It gives brilliant coverage of the USA from the point of view of an non-USA outsider, which helps put news into a broader perspective. While other articles provide info and stories that one might never find in the usual [corporate] mega-media businesses such as CNN, or Turner, or News Corp. It's easy to navigate too. Love it. Jolly good show, chaps. 😀

best soccer and environmental Reporting. The garden has by far the best reporting on what Americans call soccer and the rest of the world football they have award-winning Pulitzer Prize winning writers. They also have the best consistent reporting on the climate crisis and generally I have a pretty good report edge of the United States and the world events the only thing I get tired of it the guardian is too many general interest feature opinion articles that are not up to the standard of the sports writers which is kindOf ironic

Excellent news app, mostly. The layout and controls make the app easy to use and easy to read. Content is color coded for ease in identifying the type of article, such as opinion, news or video. However, there is one "feature" where it loses points: tap and hold an item to save it for later. It sounds like a nice way to do it, but I can't tell you how many times a day I accidentally rest a finger too long on an article and it gets saved. I guess I have fat, lazy fingers, at least on a tablet. On the phone it is not as bad.

Home page customizations gone. After years of customizing my home page in this app to get it just the way I like it, The Guardian decided they know what I want on my home page better than I do and wiped out my home page customizations. Adding them to a separate “following” section that I have to go to separately is not at all the same thing as the experience of seeing the sections I want on the Home Screen. Please bring back home page customizations.

guardian app. My husband and I live in Los Angeles having moved here From The UK in 2018. We have a subscription To the Guardian and it’s worth every penny! I think I check the Guardian app at least 6-7 times a day to check on UK and Us updates. It is a welcome lifeline to the home of our family and friends from Whom We are physically cut off from During Covid. As well as representing excellent journalism consistently. Well done! Keep doing what you do so well.

Trustworthy news source. The Guardian is one of my main sources of information about the world. I trust it so much that I choose to support it with a subscription every year. It does a superb job of covering climate change, voter suppression, gerrymandering, police brutality, gun violence, social inequities, as well as covering cultural events, films, books and art. Their coverage of the Ukraine War has been thorough and admirable. The Guardian exposes fascism all over the world. I am grateful for its unflinching coverage.

News for The World. I’ve subscribed to The Guardian and am a proud paying member. From my former career as a firefighter to my present career as a farmer it gives me stories that have helped me stay informed on issues affecting me. I will take The Guardian over any other news source here in America. The notifications for breaking news always comes in from The Guardian often minutes before others such as the AP, Reuters etc. I give The Guardian a 5 out of 5 stars.

Love. I have read the guardian for years and have supported it for years and intend to support it as long as I can because it makes my day. Every morning a delight, every morning, the news of the world written by brilliant journalists every morning a subject that always interests me no matter what it is and I happen to be a football fan so that helps to add a movie fan and a FOOD fan and a news fan and there is no paper in the world like The Guardian. I urge you to support it with whatever you can.

Journalism that seeks truth. Truth is elusive because even facts are viewed through the perspective of human eyes. The biases of personal loss or gain, of ingrained habits of thought and of ideals and wishes make reporting truth even more challenging. The Guardian can be trusted to try to overcome these challenges even as it attempts special care to present the viewpoint of the poor, of those without privilege, of the oppressed and of the socially invisible. I applaud their organising structure that makes this possible. I am always grateful to read The Guardian.

What the World Needs Now. As a long time, NY Times reader, I find The Guardian, to my surprise, much closer to my world view. I say surprise, because I had never looked at The Guardian, knew of it’s existence in reference, but never reading it. Our modern accessibility to knowledge, has brought me it’s sharp eyed world view. And I am thrilled. I have never wanted to be a UK citizen, but The Guardian makes think, it takes a people with a great deal of intelligence, humanity and wit, to look at the world honestly.

Bait and Switch. Before buying a subscription to the Guardian through the app, please be aware that your payment will not apply to a membership for the Guardian website. After buying a 6 month subscription through the app, I was still showing as not having an account when I logged into the site. After contacting the Guardian, this is what they told me: “Thank you for your message to The Guardian regarding signing in to our website with your app store subscription. Unfortunately as you have subscribed through iTunes this means The Guardian does not hold any details regarding your account. Although it is The Guardian's App, Apple holds all of your account data and we at The Guardian do not have access to it. As a result your subscription will regrettably not allow you the ability to login to our website as it is not part of our agreement with them.” None of the details in the above message appear anywhere in the App Store, the application, or advertisements for membership in the Guardian app. I like the reporting. I like the content. I don’t like these deceptive business practices
