A walk down memory lane. This is a fully functional implementation of BASIC. I use it as a kind therapy or meditation. The pleasing logic of a well crafted program in a non-RAD programming environment is heaven sent. It is like building a wooden table without using any power tools. The programer has to hand craft each routine. Modular programming becomes an art form...algorithms are created out of the most simple commands. Now if someone would just write a dBase app!

Awesome app. I really don't have anything to criticize. As I write this I'm surprised to see it hasn't bees reviewed yet. This is a great little app for anyone feeling nostalgic for the good ol days when basic was king. I miss the days when it was easy to write simple programs on a PDA. If you already know BASIC, this can be a handy tool. If you don't know anything about programming, but want to learn, this app is a fine place to get started. Math majors take note: it's worth trying.

Just fantastic!. Does exactly what it say it can do! Even the hidden WAIT 6502,1 Easter Egg is in there!

Okay. If you write something and change it, then try to run it it will run the original program you wrote...

Great Basic app. Great Basic app to show the kids how it's done. Includes all the tools from way back when. Graphics component is well worth the upgrade.

Dear GOD this is fun!!!. Not a complete and true emulator, but SO close (as close as Herr Apple will let us get, for certain).

Amazing app and Devs. This app is amazing. Not only is it a perfect port of C64 Basic on the go, but the developers are incredibly helpful as well. I had a few questions and sent about five emails over the course of 2 days and I ALWAYS received a helpful response within a couple of hours. I love to use this, I am programming a help manual for my job, and a text adventure as well. I'm not familiar with the past of C64 and I don't know what Poke and Peek do, but I don't care, I don't seem to need them so it doesn't matter that they don't work. Also it kind of sounds perverted. Heh heh. Super amazing 5 star review (only 5 stars because there's not an option for a 6th star)

Impressive App. App works really well, impressive that there is still support and upgrades from time to time. I have been able to write solid C64 basic programs on the go on iPhone and iPad, which has been a blast. Thank you!

Good BASIC ap. Works as advertised--a solid BASIC application. If possible, it would be great to see the full C64 character set and to map the screen in the same manner as a C64. This would allow some use of the "poke" and "peek" commands. Not something anyone would have ever seen with BASIC on a terminal, but huge for old C64 users.

Please add Bluetooth keyboard support!. That would make this much more interesting and useful.

In app purchase for graphics commands!!. Got this when it first came out, trusting that the developer would improve it and ultimately provide graphics commands. It's a pity that clearly lacking functionality is being charged for. Very disappointing!

Brings back old memories. This app is the closest thing to owning the Commodore 64 that I’ve seen. My first computer was a Commodore 64 and I loved programming it! Thank you for dev this app

Great Job. This does all the basics and works great, it will save your files and you can run them later. One person complained that they had to retype lines, all you have to do to make a change is list the line then move your cursor on the line make your changes and hit enter, just like the original basic. This has brought back a lot of great memories, thanks for creating this software.

What happened to the help faq, graphics ext pages?. App is obsolete. Help, faq … no longer work. Would suggest looking at other more current apps. Ihelp, faq, new features, graphics extension pages are no longer available online. What happened to them? I want to make local copies of them to prevent this issue I am experiencing now. The developer gave me copies but sadly he is no longer interested. In updating his app to current iOS standards.

Good at first. But quickly gets annoying. No copy/paste. Also have to constantly retype entire lines just to correct a typo. My son gave up on it just because of that.

I'm actually using this as a tool!. I'm enjoying the stew out of this app. I've been wanting to use some of my small programs on the iPhone for some time, without going into full-fledged app development. This does the trick! As a child of the 70s, I'm very familiar with this style of BASIC. I wrote tons of stuff (I wish I still had) on a TRS-80 COCO. Rewriting my small projects for this app is a piece of cake. I can now take my small programs with me. That, and it's a fun trip down memory lane. I'm enjoying the opportunity to use the evil GOTO again, after an almost 30 year hiatus. Writing in an unstructured environment like this feels strangely liberating! Thank you for making this app available.

Thank You!. For giving the user an option to hide/ show the title bar in graphics modes! This app is very useful! (and fun!) (screen 2 is still slow, compared to earlier versions, but wth, you can't have everything...😒)

It works. I looked at the graphic on advertisement thinking this will draw graphics. Typed circle command, line...nothing happened . I contacted mr Ahmad and he went through the detail and resolved the issue. It seems ever line ( just like old basic) need to be entered. Cut paste of programs won't work. It is awesome now that i see my circles and graphics. Still my programming skills need some honing but it works. Thank you.

The C64 REBORN...in YOUR pocket!. This app is PERFECT for an "über-geek" just like ME, who wants "something to hack around with", JUST LIKE OLD TIMES, when not only the C64 was popular (and STILL is!), but also numerous brands of the old calculator-sized programmable pocket computers, as well. Well done...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! ;-)

Works OK but awful keyboard. Very hard to type using the onscreen keyboard on an iPad. App works quite well.

Back to basics. This is a fun application. Kind of like an antique car.

Won't delete. Look, it's great and all, but it WON'T delete unwanted programs. That's the issue here.

Faithful Simulation. It's a very faithful simulation of the C64's BASIC interpreter. Naturally, since it's not an emulated system, graphics and sound capabilities are absent. But if all you need is a barebones programming environment, and pine for the 80s, this will suit you.

Fun to program with. It took me a while to figure out how to use all the commands to save, load, run, and edit, but when I did it was better than all those other Basic interpreters.

Good App!. This app is an excellent brain teaser. The only complaint I have is that files are a little hard to access because you have to enter quotation marks and use the correct case.

Well Done!. A fantastic app. I remember coding in the 70s and I’ve been missing it a lot. I have emulators for many of the older computers, but I wanted something I could noodle around on while sitting on the couch, and this makes that possible. Thanks for a great experience!

Please consider writing some form of compiler that would allow for the creation of stand alone iPhone Apps written within Hand Basic! (name your price, I'll buy it!) My hats off to you.. :-))

Overall great but.... Who wants to PAY for a graphics extension!!! Get rid of this for 5 stars. One more thing it does not support ALL basic commands.

Great APP works exactly how it should. This APP is FANTASTIC. If you have a love for the Commodore 64, or just want a simple scripting language on the iOS, this is the greatest. Also the Person who complained about the graphic add on just didn't know how to use it. if you type SCREEN 1, then add another line like SLEEP 2000 it will say up for a few seconds. Change the number to make it say up as long as you want. Some people need to read the manul.

Great BASIC emulator. Nicely done! Its as though I'm sitting in front of my old Commodore PET. This is great if I need to do some formula-based math my HP calc won't do or takes too much work to set up.

Maybe Commador 64 basic is different from what I need?. I've been learning programming for a while now, and with little success with Python and Lua and such, I decided to try BASIC. After all, it is the oldest programming program I can think of. So I went online and found a tutorial, and I tried to make the following command: PRINT "Hello World!" Delay 2000 BUT what keeps happening to me is I say the first line and hit the return key to go into the second line, but it'll automatically start the line, and terminate it. I don't know if it's my fault if I'm not doing something correctly, if it's a bug, or if a Commador 64 did that, but either way, I'm confused and found no support in the app support.

HELP!. I absolutely LOVE this application, but your recent Version 1.3 update broke support for older Ipad OS'es. My ipad is OS 3.2.1. The previous version worked fine, but the new 1.3 version won't even open. PLEASE fix... I already feel like I've lost an old friend!:(

Help. I payed for the graphics extension but when i do "SCREEN 1" it pops up for a second and then disappears!!! Other then this the app is great.

When BASIC was king. Nice app, reminds me if the days when basic was king of the world. This beautifully made app brought the kid out of me, I was writing programs in minutes, though I don't know what I'll do with this other than exercise my brain. One comment- please allow the cursor's color to be changed: it's nearly impossible to see a blue cursor on a blue screen! Obvious, really. Thanks for all your hard work.

Interesting, if not that useful. Unlike the other reviewer suggests, this really is BASIC, which should be pretty obvious from the screenshots (Lua doesn't have line numbers). It's not a perfect copy of the original BASIC, but it mostly just adds language features, which is not bad at all. Overall, a fun toy.

Almost there, guys... Wrong language.... I know LUA, and "print("Hello World")" IS NOT BASIC! IT'S LUA!!

Neat little app!. Commodore 64 BASIC was never as useful or as well designed as BASICA or GWBASIC that used to come packaged with MS-DOS, but that's not the fault of this app. The app does what it says it does, and it works pretty well. Plus, it's free!

Ok, vulnerable to infinite loops. I liked this app when I saw it, and got it straight away. Amazing, except if you type " 10 print "hi" 20 GOTO 10 It will just keep on going and going. There's no way to stop it. Would be 5 stars if it wasn't for that

Retroissimo!. Ah, this brings back memories. Useful, too — for simple programming on these Apple devices that are generally so unfit for anything of that sort. Type "help" for help, if you forget the details of the syntax. I needed that. It's been a couple of decades, after all. Many thanks to the developers. Brilliant!

Excellent!. I just spent a whole Saturday afternoon writing a text adventure game with this app! I love it. It reminds me of being 12, staying behind after school to write poor little text games on the school computers. This app has made me hugely nostalgic. I just wish there was a way to import and export .BAS files, or if there is a way, that it was clearer how to do so.

C 64 in your pocket. Better than the original because of it's speed. This app has a world of uses. Now you can retire that TRS 80 pocket computer , if you'll admit to being old enuff to own one.

Deeply Retro. This little app replaces about a thousand dollars worth of brownish/beige-coloured computer equipment from the mid-1980s. You won't need a Commodore 64 computer. You won't need a 1702 colour monitor. You won't even need a 1541 disk drive. Just open this little app and you will be in the blue-backgrounded nirvana that is Commodore BASIC. As a bonus, LOAD and SAVE commands work, and wow, they are so much faster than the 1541 floppy equivalent.

Unusable: crucial "Run/Stop" button missing!. There is no way to break out of an executing program. So, whille his app has the potential of being extremely cool, it is virtually unusable. Please fix this! How hard could it be to add "Run/Stop"?! Might as well add Function keys and CTRL, while you're at it

iOS 13.4.1 problem with this app. Solved It was because my iPhone was on Low Power Mode ! The iOS 13.4.1 cut the speed of my basic program in half on my iPhone 11 Pro... But iPados 13.4.1 is ok on my iPad Pro 2020. I’m I alone with this bug ?

Pretty nice. Cool, but I don't think it should display COMMODORE 64 BASIC V2 when it starts up. After all it isn't Commodore BASIC right? It should say HAND BASIC Vsomething. ;-) Any graphics features planned for the future, even if they aren't C64 identical?

HOLY COW :D. I feel terrible for giving this such a bad rating earlier it rocks!! it is 100% comparable with vanilla ms basic (so you can run all your old games on it :D) and has file I/o and sharing things it needs: audio loading and saving (so you can share files over the phone and with CDs/tapes) copy and past (so you can copy programs from safari,notes etc and so you can hand data to your program) and most importantly a command reference and memory map (maybe a help command that pops up a uialert with a uiwebview in it) it's really the best interpreter out there (most aren't free) and this one should cost at least like 5.00$ (but could easily get away with ~7.00$)

This is awesome. Some of the old engineering books I'm reading online have their code in BASIC and this app is perfect to help me work through them.

Basic!. I been using this app since day 1 and it's a great addition to my commodore arsenal. If you own a real c64 and still like to code with it, you need this app. It's the perfect companion! Take your code with you and edit it on the go and import it back to your c64 when you get home.

Amazing!. I program video games for a living, and although I started long after the Commodore era I have had some books on this stuff. I am totally geeking out! :D

Cool. Now people can finally program their iPhones/iPods just by knowing BASIC! Sure, it's not really as good as developing your own app (lacks good graphics, and possibly other things) but hey, it's decent. Two things would make it even cooler: the ability to transfer BASIC programs from a computer over WiFi/USB, and graphics.

Cool. Always having to capitalize is a pain on the iPad...you should integrate with FabioApps C64 keyboard...now that would be cool! all in all great app

Great App. I love the simplicity of this app. It keeps getting better. I like the new file support and the new commands (especially CLS). My new request is to allow me to use an alternate key for the STOP command. Since it's not a default key, it takes a couple taps (and a hold) which often gets interrupted by the executing code. Thx again!

Just like the old days. This is cool! Anyone who cut their teeth on BASIC in the 70's and 80's will love it. Built in help would be good but I guess the C64 didn't have that either so it's authentic! ;-) Great app! Thanks.

Super fast. The code execution is very fast. 10x faster than some other BASIC. Too bad the graphic and color control does not work.

Takes me back to 1979 💾 💻. Back when I first learned BASIC on a TRS-80. I felt exhilarated by the freedom of exploring and building. I built games, taught my classmates, built a check balancing program that stored your records on a cassette. Thanks for porting this emulator over to iOS. I'm having fun with it and I'm teaching my kids to code using your app. Keep up the good work.
