Buyer Beware – Difficult to restore purchased content. I could go on about all the other things previous reviewers have mentioned, the books that are $3-4 higher in price than similar apps, the general bugginess, the poor selection and infrequent updating of titles, etc. What really bothers me, and the reason I gave the app 2 stars, is the complete lack of customer service, as well as the difficulty in restoring previously purchased content. After having to reinstall the app, I found myself unable to access my books. Clicking the “Report a Problem” link in my iTunes account page (which used to let you send a complaint directly to Apple), resulted only in sending me again and again to the iTunes Support landing page. Repeated attempts to resolve the issue, both through the in-app feedback, and Hachette's customer service page, were ignored, with not even a form email to show that my complaints were received. I finally restored an old version of the app from backup, which restored my content. However, while I now have the books I've already paid for, I have to restore all my other settings/content. Had I not purchased multiple items in-app, I wouldn't have bothered. I highly doubt I'll be purchasing any other titles through the app. It's just not worth the money, especially when you can buy a hard copy for a few dollars more, one that you know won't be a hassle every time you want to read.

Worst manga reader on the iOS.. While I appreciate the nice selection of manga offered by yen press, it doesn't really matter when I'm unable to read any of them. The app crashes constantly, and is so slow on the few occasions it actually opens that it's basically unusable. I prefer to buy manga when possible to support the industry, but I will no longer do so with yen press as long as their app is in its current state. Seriously, go download viz media and dark horse comics as their apps actually work. Leave this one alone until they release a big patch to fix all their problems.

Its AWSOME but.... I am so desparte to read the rest of the Maximum Ride: The Manga But it costs and i want to read it now plus im broke

So Bad. The yen press app is completely inferior to the biz media app and is missing hundreds of titles they should be carrying. I was expecting more of a monthly subscription for the entire library of manga like the Viz App but was sadly mistaken. I would love for yen press to fix these issues and layouts and would be more than willing to come back and pay!

Update. I have loved reading on the app but now I cannot even get on the app to read any of my books. Update this app please.

Do not buy manga with this app!. The app takes a long time to load and crashes often. Manga volumes that I’ve purchased have disappeared, and when I try to download them again from the archive, I get a message telling me that it is unable to download because the server certificate is invalid. If you want to buy digital titles from Yen Press, buy them through the iBooks store instead, I may need to re-buy the issues that I can no longer download, which really ticks me off.

1 Year. It's been 1 year since the last update, the catalogue is rarely updated, & there is no web interface. If Yen Press is not even going to try, then it should just let its licenses lapse so competitors with a qualified ecosystem may cater to customers needs.

Needs to be updated. As the review title says, this app is in need of a major update. It is really great to be able to read all of these stories and whatnot, but it is really annoying to have to use a system that hasn't improved for nearly three years.

Not useful. There are plenty of options but there is no search function and the app crashes constantly.

Awful!!!!. You have to pay to read the books. The add in the paper copy of Maximum ride said they were all free so this app is a scam DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!!!!

App hasn’t been updated in 6 years. It’s safe to say that they have abandoned this app. The layout and UI still function like it was meant for an iPhone 4 and doesn’t work on modern devices. You’re better off buying the physical copies if you’re a fan of their library.

Don't buy manga on this app... When I first downloaded this app, it worked ok but it was very slow. When I purchased a volume of a manga, the app would not open back up. I even tried restarting my system and that did not work. So I had to delete the app and download it again just to open it, only to find out that the volume I just purchased was not available to read.. It's a shame because this app has a lot of good manga...

Love the app but. I love the app a lot but it crashes a lot and It has a lot of really good books would recommend this app and I wish they would update it and fix the crash problem.

Disappointed. Come on, Yen Press/Hachette, you guys can do better than this. This app is barely usable, hard to browse, and regularly crashes. And that's very discouraging for a company with so many great series.

Great content but you can't read it. I bought a manga from Yen press and it got deleted. When I go to download it again it brings me to read it except it's a blank screen. And when I hit the button to go back and check the download it crashes on me

What. I haven’t even used the app because I can’t it wasn’t updated in a while so it’s not able to be used on my phone since the app itself isn’t updated and I’m kinda mad bc I want to read this one series

Garbage. This app hasn’t been updated in eons. Books that I have paid for will not re-upload after they have been archived. There are landscape/portrait orientation issues that make the app virtually unusable. If you want to buy Yen books, do it on comixology. I’m going to bite the bullet and rebuy them on comixology, as this app just isn’t worth the effort.

Update the app for IOS. I’m not even able to get into the app so how am I supposed to read on this app?

Don't Download This App. I only got this app to read Kakegurui. When I bought the 1st volume it didn't download. I keep closing the app and re-downloading the manga, but I keep getting this error saying it's unable to download. After getting fed up, I sent a message to the company for a refund. I still have not received a refund and it's been over a month since I sent that message. Don't download or buy anything from this app or you'll lose your money.

Please update the app!!. I’m a huge fan of Yen Press. I do prefer physical copies, but sometimes I can’t afford to pay exorbitant amounts of money for OOP copies so I want to buy digital and an app is the best way to do that. I hate using a browser on my phone for manga. Please get on this, Yen Press.

Fix bugs PLEASE. This app has not been updated in so long that I have just about given up on it. It auto rotates itself to be portrait oriented despite having rotation locked in landscape mode, downloads are VERY slow, and the keyboard glitches all the time. Cant see the entire app on my ipad due to these glitches.

Love the App but it crashes all the time. I been using this app for a month it's pretty cool because I like my manga digital(no space in my house for so many books)but it's been crashing a lot and think that I share the same with everyone that every download takes forever and if you lock the Ipad o switch to another app the download pauses, it's a pain to be waiting. Almost Excelent.... Excellent selection of a wide variety of colorful titles. However, desperately need to be updated. System keeps crashing, and downloaded previews keep disappearing from library!

Seriously?!?!. This app looks like it was designed for a flip phone. No categorization? Search? The content fills up about 1/4 of my screen. Horrible experience. With a name like Yen Press/Hachette - how the hell does your UI look this bad!?!? Bring your content up to 2015!!

Absolute garbage.... Terrible loads glitches out all the time purchases don't work half the time. Super slow and terrible quality releases. But because of their menoploy on translation rights you have to buy from them if you want to read your favorite novels and manga. Better to learn Japanese then support this garbage.

Hope To See An Update Soon. I enjoy the manga Yen Press gets, but their app still has many improvements to go. Things I would like to see: 1) Have a sort/search option available in the store portion to find a series. From what I can see and navigate within the app, the only search option is in your personal library. Otherwise, you will have to constantly scroll looking for a particular volume of a series. And the way they are listed I believe is from newest to oldest. 2) Please work on the app to make it run more smoothly. Still run into crashes every so often.

Slow downloads for Great Collection. I have mixed feelings about Yen's app. I love the collection of manga--I still think Yen's library has more variety than Viz. However, the app is incredibly slow. The load times slowed down ever since the upgrade to version 2.0. On top of this, the app cannot change its orientation. The layout looks ugly. Worst of all, each volume takes forever to download. I would have deleted this app if it didn't have Bamboo Blade, K-On and Fullmetal Alchemist in the library. I sincerely hope that the developers make some massive improvements in the near future.

Disappointing 😤. *Don't bother downloading, it's a waste of time...* Honestly I am so devastated.. I downloaded this to read my favourite Mangas that Narae Lee has made and there I am bragging to my friends (who read Maximum Ride with me);"Oh boy look at me, I'm going to download the app and read book nine and 10!!" And look at me now, writing this review about how terrible this is. 11-12 dollars for a volume?!? I read Mangas in a day or less, and guess what? It's FREE at my school library! Gee, I could even go to a book store and get them for LESS. Besides, the only books in this go up to 5.. Waste of money and time...

Broken. This is an okay app and I was really exited to read the maximum ride series but my app won't work its lagging and stuck on the home screen if you fix this I'm sure people would get this app and you should make it mor organized so you can search up the book series your looking for.

The app. Terrible absolutely terrible.... High school of the dead and all the other good manga's have been deleted..... Please at least add spice and wolf light novel!!!

Very disappointing. There are some good manga titles available here, but my experience with this app so far has been dreadful. First of all, it crashes every single time on all devices when going from the library to the main page/store. Titles have not synced between devices; I had to sign into the app on each device and download/restore my purchases, and the latter process took a ridiculously long time to complete. Finally, and, in a manga app, perhaps most unforgivably, there is no bookmark function (at least none that I could see...am I missing something?), so each device 'remembers' a completely different page than the other! As I say, there are good manga available (and that's the sole reason I give this app 2 stars) and I was excited to contemplate purchasing them, but that's hardly likely with an app that doesn't function. Extremely infuriating and disappointing.

To keep it simple. Selection is short and not completely up to date Interface is chunky and buggy (especially the gesture, keyboard, and processing time) But it does offer Haruhi Suzumiy, Omamori Himari, High School of the Dead. In other words save for the manga release this app needs a lot of work in terms of speed, interface, and the time it take for the works to be released (Haru-chan is missing)

Absolute junk. This app is so low quality with the categories and sells books for a much too high price - where you can get a better copy on amazon for half price. It was incredibly surprising that this app was being sponsored in the MAXIMUM RIDE manags... Especially since it was such a garbage reading platform. I do not recommend getting this app in the slightest - it is incredibly hard to navigate and overall shouldn't be bought from or used by anyone at all. To make this app useable or better... Have things more sorted out then they are and just trash everything there and start new - and don't get a three year old to design it.

Needs a lot of work. there's no search bar so you have to scroll through all the titles to find one you want the previews are way too short, half the time the space is almost totally used on the opening art pages so you don't get a good idea of the story the scrolling is a problem because I have to enlarge a page to read it, then I have to put it back to its old size to swipe to the next one there doesn't seem to be any sort of order in the manga list, just random titles thrown in all over it it has potential, but needs some serious overhauling

Upset!!!. I was using this app and bought a few manga but now in OS7 it crashes as soon as I click on it. I bought something I can't even read! What a waste of money!!!

Crashes in OS7. To begin with, this app was never that wonderful, but with the new OS7, it just plain crashes. So if you have an iPad2 and want to download this app. Don't bother. It's one million years behind Viz!

Unreliable. The 3 Manga I've purchased have disappeared from my iPad and they appear in the store as if I'd never purchased them. It seems that I gave them my money for nothing. Very poor and unreliable app in my opinion. I don't recommend it.

Good Library, Poor App. The Yen Press app has a very healthy library of publications that cannot be found on online manga sources due to their strict licensing practice. However, the app falls short on everything else. My biggest concern is the interface. It's clunky and difficult to navigate. For starters, most series are barely organized. You'll find volumes of manga scattered across a list in no particular order. Moreover, there is no search function. The user interface also feels unresponsive. While the app is stable throughout a reading experience, closing the reader to your library will induce a crash 99% of the time. As of now, there is no reason to purchase manga from this app as most publications can be found on iBooks at a lower price. Only 2 stars because the app isn't downright unusable and it has a great library.

Extremely crash-happy. If you're going to encourage people to buy legitimate copies of manga, maybe you could make it so we can actually read the volumes after paying for them. This app refuses to completely download my purchases & constantly crashes. Awful.

Yen press app needs work. I think this app is ok not great and could use a lot of work first the books are full price to me I might as well just go and buy the actual book for that price. Second they don't update the books at all I got to the point where I just got rid of this app sine a big chunk of the book they do have aren't what I like but I would keep it hoping they would put more selection. They just need to maintain this app some more and make a few changed and this app would be 10x better.

No Retina support. This app would be great if it supported the Retina display on the new iPads. I've only bought the Yotsaba&! 11 book, and everything is pixelated. It would be nice to be able to zoom in on a panel too, like on the VIZ Manga app, even if the scans are not that high resolution. Also, the selection of books available digitally is pretty limited, but I figure that's a rights issue. I generally prefer digital books but the Yen Press app's low quality display makes me want to get the print versions.

Nice update. Seems to be much faster, was able to find and restore my downloads pretty easily. I do wish that two finger zooming would work and that the selection was larger, but I've liked what I've read so far.

Cool app but…... I just wish the prices were lower. That's one of the things I LOVE about the Viz app. If Yen Press can lower the prices for their digital manga and have more manga available digitally (like Legend!) I wouldn't mind purchasing the entire series!

Horrible!. I thought other reviewers were exaggerating about how horrible this app works. I downloaded the app and it crashed the first time! I have never been able to use the app to even view what was offered. Why not sell the manga through ibooks since the app is not being properly maintained? Ridiculous!

Worked before the update. It worked once upon a time. Now I feel like I wasted money on books that I can't read now. They need to update their app soon or the app will get more bad reviews.

Well..... So yes the manga is actually more expensive, and the selection is poor, but what bothers me is that I cannot retrieve my old purchases under my account. On other apps, I can get my old books under my account, but this one I cannot... This z app has potential, but it needs lower prices, more selection, and a cloud database that saves our previous purchases...

Pretty good with some problems. Sometimes when i try to search something up, there is no keyboard to type with. Also, the way it is arranged is hard to find certain books. It lags as well. Other than that, the Maximum Ride graphic novels I bought all had good graphics except for Chapter 12 of book 2. In that chapter there was little to no dialogue in the speech bubbles where there should have been

Update Needed. This app looks like it hasn't been updated for a long time. I can't find any recent books in it and as others have said, everything's price is ridiculous. I would really like it if this could be updated...

No good stuff.. No Pandora Hearts. No Soul Eater. No Black Butler. The three series that I want from them. I was going to use the preview part to take a peak at these but THEY AREN'T EVEN THERE!! The app is also EXTREMELY laggy.

Awful. The yen press app is very buggy. It crashes on me every other time I try to open it. What's worse is I can't even read all the manga I purchased. I recently bought a volume of haruhi but every time I try to download it I get an error message. Avoid this app until its bugs are fixed.

Broken. Waiting months for fix.... App is useless right now, last update was in September. Fix is taking far too long. I'll update my review whenever they decide to fix this. I'll take my money elsewhere until then.

Image Quality Issues on Retina Displays. My biggest complaint about this app is the poor image quality of the manga. The quality issues are especially apparent on retina display iPads. There is a lot of anti-aliasing around text and drawn lines that makes the details seem very jagged and not smooth at all. My eyes fatigue after awhile from reading the text which seems out of focus. For an app which is primarily used for reading this is a big problem. Other competing manga apps such as Viz do not have a retina ready app, but there image quality scales well enough, so there is no loss of quality and every thing looks smooth. Yen press, please consider increasing the image quality of your manga, so it is more readable.

Great Start, but improvements won't hurt.. I love almost everything about this app. The one main thing I don't like though is the lack of series. In particular, I dislike the fact there is no higurashi or umineko. Nonetheless, I have confidence you will fix this in your own time. When it comes to navigation, I actually find it ok. I always use the browse store feature. But it would not hurt to put a search bar in it. Prices do hurt a bit. However, this is the only way I can get any Yen Press manga. So I can live with it. One last thing, please update the app sooner than you did last time.

Great titles, slightly below-average app with room for improvement. There are a lot of manga I'd read and even purchase from Yenpress, however the app has a lot of shortcomings that make me either prefer the paperback format or just not bother at all with it. The images are not optimized for retina-display iPads; this also applies for the images of the books in a user's library. For B&W manga images that span 2 pages, they do not draw them together, so in Landscape view it just looks like 2 separate pages put next to each other instead of one nice full image. While it looks like they'll do this with some color pages, it's disappointing that a nice 2-page spread looks on an app similarly to a paperback. While image pinch-zoom isn't something I absolutely need, it would be a welcome addition to the app. While I haven't had a full crash, I have had a page come up all-black and have concerns about the stability of the app. On the plus side, there are a lot of interesting manga series to read like Haruhi, High School of the Dead, Is This a Zombie?, etc. The storefront does look good and is easy to navigate, with my only nitpick being that manga sections that have more than 1 page worth of books/volumes is a touch slow when I swipe across pages; there could be some general improvements in responsiveness. I do appreciate pop-up views of manga I want to peek at and either download a preview or purchase. I don't know the update history of the app (if I'm to believe other reviews, it's a rare occasion). I hope Yenpress puts some good work into updating this app in the future because I much prefer to buy manga digitally for the obvious reasons.

Fixed the problem. Well i was having a problem reading the first volume of nightschool but after i emailed the support people they fixed the problem. The books on here are pretty expensive but the app runs smoothly so 5 stars

No yotsuba?. Looks like a decent manga app. But until they start selling yotsuba& on the store, I have little reason to own this app. :(

So pricey.... They have so Many good mangas I love, but they are so expensive!! 9 bucks for a single vol of maximum ride? Insane!!!!! At least they give a preview of what, 20 pages ? Deleting this app in 3...2...

Poor customer service. Problems with this app: 1. Once purchased, items either do not fully download or they charge you full price for a preview. 2. Sending a noticed using the feedback to ask how to solve the problem, no follow up happened. Not even a form letter. 3. Trying to resolve this issue via website and through Apples "Report a problem" sends you a loop of various links via their websites. I have yet to find an app were you support the artist without getting scammed. Purchase at your own risk.

APP CRASHES A LOT!!. I recently downloaded the app on my iPod 5 hoping to buy some new manga but the app keeps on crashing, it doesn't even load it just opens and crashes. I thought it might be that the app did not support iPod 5 so I downloaded it on my iPhone 4S and it's the same problem IT KEEPS ON CRASHING! FIX IT YEN PRESS!!!!!!

Doesn't work at all. App opens for roughly half a second, then closes. Never able to actually use it. Crap app.

Ehhnn.... I'd love to see more books, particularly the Cirque du Freak manga. Also, it is a bit pricey and it'd be nice if the books were a couple more dollars off.(Look at some of the prices of eBooks in the Kindle store compared to the print!) Also, I downloaded a couple of previews, and they aren't long enough, so maybe extend it to five more pages at least, or even one chapter! However, the display is really nice and clear.

No manga update. In 3 months they haven't released a single new manga in the app and overcharge for them compared to viz

Where is the update!!!. I paid for 8 books in this app, because it was the only app that had this series and now I can't even read them because they don't want to fix the dang app! This pisses me off and I want my money back! Might as well pay Viz since they at least update every while.

Fair prices, bad interface.. While I like some Yen Press titles, this app is badly structured. It should be organized better, such as by title series, not thrown all over the place like you don't care. Secondly, put a search option in, makes looking for titles a lot easier. Lastly, put more titles in. I'm waiting for Spice & Wolf to be released in digital. The prices are fair, within $5-7 is better then $10-15. (Most people don't realize is that a good portion of that goes to making the paper for the book, publishing and then advertising it.) At least look how another company put a manga portal app together, like Viz, they got the structure down pact.

Dx the f'ing price. For a digital manga, $8.99 is way to much......it would be easier to go to the local book store and pay an extra 3 bucks for the manga.......,if the mangas were around $4.99 or something I may reconsider. Plus this app doesn't have Soul Eater or all the Jack Frost volumes.........this app is going to be deleted......you think the mangas would be cheaper since they aren't printed =3=

Not pulling up. I found this app when I was desperate for the 7th Maximum Ride manga and I downloaded it. Now that I'm trying it out its very disappointing. It will pull up with the tittle screen of Iggy (character in Maximum Ride) and it will stay there for a second to a minute before closing and taking me to my home screen. So far I'm not very impressed. Please fix this. I need to read the 7th volume of Maximum Ride ASAP.

Complaints. I really want to read other mangas that were listed on the Internet, like Sarasah. It would be great if you could update new mangas faster and have more options to read not just a few books. Otherwise, this is the best app for me :)

Not good. It wouldn't even work on my phone

Finally!!!!!. After months of not working the Yen Press act is back! Good news? Everything seems to work fine. Bad news? 1) Some small navigation problems. 2) Big series missing, like Black Butler for example. 3) The risk that next time iOS gets update the app will not work again for weeks.
