Hoping will be back to 5* with updates. This app had it all till iOS sometime early 2022. Features used to be able to be restored after iOS updates, but variable speed playback has sadly disappeared. I use(d) this to help learn difficult music and desperately hope the feature returns before I seek another app. If it does I promise to revise to 5 stars!

A question. Is it possible to record via regular mic on my phone while playing sound back through my bluetooth headphones? The only way I could find to record using the mic on my phone was to set it to use internal hardware, but then when I play it back, it plays through my phone speakers. If I turn this off, it automatically records via bluetooth. It seems there should be a way to record via the internal mic, while playing it back via my bluetooth headphones. If not, please fix this. Also, voice activation isn't great. It cuts off the beginning parts of words.

Talk about a Scam.... I am extremely disappointed about what the Audio Memo development team has done to its customers. To me, they have miss-represented their product and deceived customers. I will be opening a case with Apple and hopefully get their license to sell through iTunes revoked. One of two things happened and i don't know which one is worst. That Audio Memo advertised a product with certain features but are not completely transparent with the customers letting them know that some of those features are "trials" and will expire at a certain point in time? Or that Audio Memo sells its product with those features, then changed its mind releasing a new version, which everyone is going to download, only to find out that some of the features that actually made a determining factor on you choosing this product have been removed without letting you know and that you have to pay more money if you want them? if younare reading these comments.... DO NOT buy this product. They have actually removed features of the product that were originally in the paid version. There is no telling what they would do going forward to get you to buy the product only to come back at a later time and update it with one that has less features...

Updated it and now it doesn’t work. The bluetooth feature seems to have an issue on the new version. It doesn't work in the car or earphones.

Great app - even greater tech support. I depend on this app to record important meetings. Just have to be careful to make sure it keeps recording. There are times I hit Record on my iPhone and assume it's recording for an hour or two conversation. Then I come back to save and email the recording and find it somehow stopped after a few seconds and my whole conversation was missed. I don't know what happened. Somehow, something was pressed which paused or ended the recording. But I like how I can set it to record in 15-minute chunks automatically so none of the recorded files is to large to email. Each one is under 8MB or so. Very fast, competent, and polite support if I report a problem.

Might want to see who is seeing me. My files keep disappearing

Can’t send in iMessage. Need to be able to send with iMessage. Not supported currently.

Awesome App. Rely on it heavily!!

Easy to Use. This app records and plays back easily + you can send the recordings from within the app.

One of the best recorders out their. I've seen a lot of bad reviews on this but I've had nothing but success. I set the files so that they auto split and I'm able to keep them small enough to send via email. Also, if you loose you purchases after an upgrade, try to use the "restore" feature. It a shame that an app gets bad ratings because people might not know how in-app purchases work. I've been very happy with the quality too. No real need for a microphone. Update - love this app so much I tried to review it again and realized I already reviewed it once. Great job guys! Oh and the person that had the problem with sending through email: sending through email has a limitation not by the app but by the email. Purchase the auto split extension and split at 15 min for it to work with gmail. Don't know about other email services but gmail has 20mb limitation on attachments. Also if you buy a recorder you are going to have to connect it to the computer to get your files right? You can that with your iPhone too except iTunes sharing works over wifi and I'm sure the recorder does not. You also have the option of using auto upload to Dropbox, iCloud (which you can email links to), FTP, WebDAV. You can buy all extensions for 10 dollars. So again, why would you spend 100 dollars or more on a recorder that doesn't do all that this app does? Please do yourself a favor and don't get frustrated because of some perceived challenge. Read the instructions :)

Badge. I hate the fact that I cannot have the app icon show a badge of how many current recording I have. This way I can use it as a sort of a task manager.

Bought it for the Bluetooth mic option. Doesn’t show up

Long time user. Love this app. Most of it is reliable and well thought out. I tried the transcription, and it’s not so good, but it’s not much worse than Otter which I paid $100 for. Also better handling of fast forward, audio quality, as well as manipulating files, including exporting. When that subscription comes up for renewal, I’ll let it go and keep using AudioMemos. Maybe an AI style transcriber will turn up I can use to compliment it.

Great and useful tool. I’ve been using this app for years and it is really a go-to for so many things. Not once have I had any issues during this time.

Solid; reliable; simple and quick.... Used this app for three years. Does the job better than the many other recording apps I’ve tried. Don’t believe you can go wrong buying Audio Memos.

Try before you don’t buy. iPhone app is critically flawed and shuts down for no reason. When you press record it will start recording then stop immediately and you’ll have to try again. Playback buttons must be pressed several times to work (or their active surface is way too small) The slide to delete previous recordings has the same problem. Apple Watch app works well except after recording you must press a tiny “Done” button and then it brings up the file you just recorded for review before syncing to iPhone. You must press done again to continue negating the convenience of having the app on a watch. Spend the 4.99 for Just Press Record if you need a voice memo app for anything reliable or work related. Don’t buy this one.

Outstanding!. i’m a very critical user who has tried many different audio programs and some are poor and some ate very good, but this one with its many features is outstanding. I really find it useful that you can easily append to the beginning of a recording, at the end of recording or even insert audio in the middle of a recording. Appending at the beginning is an excellent way to add to the beginning of recording when you get an idea later on and say well I should’ve added this first because it’s very important. This app can do that with no problem at all. It also has many other features some of which are distinctive to this app alone. I have been using it for years.

Why not recorded in MP3 format?. Kind of disappoint about the recording format, wav or m4a not mp3. Why not mp3 as default format?

Amazing and easy!!. I had to write a speech for the passing of a wonderful teacher and it was effortless to speak and record my words!! Love this app!!! Thank you to the creators and the Creator!!

Must have. My best paid app. Use it all the time. Easy to use. Wish I could record a phone conversation while I’m on the phone. Also wish I could favorite a recording afterwards.

Good app. I am happy with this app. The main feature I wanted was the ability to record from the mic on my Bluetooth headset and this app does that beautifully. The one thing I wish this app did was allow me to play music through my Bluetooth headset while I record audio from the mic on my Bluetooth headset at the same time. I don’t want to record the music, though. I just want to be able to keep listening to my music while I record my audio. Do that and this would be a 5 star app for sure.

No bt recording. Was under the impression this offered the ability to record from Bluetooth. Why is that gone? Useless app for me. Want a refund.

Used to be able to actually extract audio. Now it doesn’t work on iphone x. Have had this app for over 5 years. Cannot edit audio anymore. Only giving 3 stars because it has worked well in the past but definitely not now.

Essential App!. I use this app nearly every day to record thoughts and ideas. It’s also super useful to record meetings.

Having new problems saving recording. I used to be able to record, press done then add a name. Twice now when I do that the recording disappeared. I’ve also lost one I had named before hitting done. What’s happening???

Full featured. Has been my go to way to record little to dos while driving for at least 5 years & still most-efficient option I’m aware of. Lots of options (but taking advantage of some or all of them can lead to a slower experience). Have gotten competent response to my support requests on a few occasions.

Pretty Darn Perfect!!!. After discarding several recording apps for my Apple Watch I’ve settled on this one. All I wanted was something I could use relatively hands free to record a reminder or some random thought whilst driving or out walking. It’s recognized as a Complication and Siri brings it up easily. All I have to do is touch the big “record” button and bam! It is well worth the buck it costs and there are a bunch of extensions available if you need extras like attaching a recording to a photo etc. I don’t need any so haven’t purchased but good to have the options. I haven’t found a way for the mic icon to show on my watch face yet but Siri can find it for me. :)

Restore does not work. Can not restore previous purchases!

Freezes. Doesn’t send. Records but doesn’t play.. Why does this app not send. I’ve set it up to automatically send. Many times I record a talk only to discover that it has nothing in the audio record. It shows the MB’s but plays nothing. Other times I attempt to copy it from a wav file to a m4a file and get a msg that it couldn’t do it. Why??? Very unhappy with this app.

Horribly. It use to work perfectly until a few months ago. Spent a lot of time trying to fix Now it’s glitchy and freezes and completely does not work

Angry but Opportunity for Redemption. I have owned and used the app for over a year to record class lectures. The app is superb at recording lectures and I especially liked the voice initiated recording and bookmarking features. These features plus many more are only available through the in app extensions. Over the summer I didn't need the app but I downloaded the update. The first day of class I launched the app and to my dismay I find a very basic voice recording app that had no extension and thus none of the features I paid extra for when I originally bought the app. I'm not sure why this has happened but it needs to be squared away and quickly. The worst part is that I recommended this app to several of my peers that own iPads. Let's just say, I want to somehow receive an update that allows me to utilize all of the app's extensions as before. This should be free since no other app I have has ever charged for an update or deleted extensions that I paid for and asked for me to repurchase them. Otherwise, I will delete the app, find another voice recording app to spend money on, and warn peers of this app and the company's business practices.

No Bluetooth and no description of subscriptions available. I got this app because it, at one time, offered Bluetooth mic support. It apparently does not anymore. There are two higher levels of subscriptions available, and there are apparently extensions available, but nowhere to find out the details of those subscriptions and what I’m getting or to find a list of extensions. What a waste. It’s also rather difficult to navigate.

Excellent App. Very useful and user friendly. I am using since 7 years. Easy to download from free cloud synchronize.

Good App. Overall pretty darn good. (Paid version) Ipad 2 with 16 gig. IOS 6.1 Sometimes crashes, however, most likely when I ask the program to do something while it is compressing a file. In my book, not an issue. Sure would like to record in mp4 format rather than Wav format. Saves the time of compression. I send the files to my clients email and 15 Meg is about it. Cheers, Charles

No Bluetooth functionality. Bought this app for Bluetooth recording using the iPhone video app. No longer available in the app. Very disappointed.

Life Support. The creation of this is app was a gift to the planet. It has helped me record & maintain a record of very precious & sacred moments in the life of myself & my loved ones. It is a blessing & a grace. I only wish it could record from the phone so I can listen to my voices of family when we are separated by long distance travel. Good recorder but expensive. The only recorder with an amplifier option which comes in handy when I'm farther away from the source of sound, in terms of functionality this app has everything and offers more than the simple voice memo that came with iOS. The downsides are: a) you need to purchase all these features and app ends up costing $12; b) sometimes when you change record settings, amplifier volume or selecting files to edit, the app doesn't register your new changes, I have to back out and try again and this happened a few times; c) I wish the UI is a bit more interesting

What happened to Pause???. Just upgraded. Am I dreaming, or why does pause suddenly mean playback? It's maddening and disruptive. When I hit pause I expect SIlence. And I don't want to be asked if I want to overwrite, etc etc etc. No I don't. I wnt to continue where I left off. That is what pause is supposed to mean. This is very confusing and we risk losing data. Very BAD upgrade!

Truly useful. Find the ability to add to existing recordings is extremely useful. ability to insert at specific point is brilliant. Loving it!

For my use ... Perfect. I have been using this to record meetings with great success. The auto-normalise is brilliant. I get clear recording and playback. I find transferring files to computer easier using iTunes than the suggested methods, but apart from that, great.

Terrific. I like the sound quality using compression, good for uploading and sending by email. There should be an option to purchase with main audio addons.

Memo. Great little app. Buying the app you get a better sound quality, I'm quite impressed with the sound quality. It would be nice if you can email recordings out. The recordings are always "too big" to send.

Excelent. This product quality of sound is excellent. I often record conferences over the phone and found that the recording sounds better than the original phone quality. This might sound strange but its true. I suppose it must filter the input noise. It is also highly sensitive and picks up low audio levels. Try it out

Not too bad. Very basic and require additional payment to get all the function. Probably it only can describe as iPhone voice recording + support USB

It has Some major problems. Seems good at first but has some problems. Some of my memos become terribly distorted after a lot of editing. Uploaded new version and lost all the extras I,d paid for. There is a bug in the update that means you lose the tool bar when you high speed scrub. You then need to soft restart the iPad. Please fix this ASAP as its a hassle. Otherwise this is the best voice memo for iPad I can find. Still needs some work though.

Perfection!. This is a brilliant app! It is perfect for transferring recordings from phone to computer without iTunes. The tips and help are brilliant, I am so happy with this app!

Fix the crash.. I recorded a 3 hour lecture, and the app crashed on me. I shouldnt have paid for something that didn't work. The idea of digging out trash files is really smart, but hey, I can't find the most important thing that I just recorded. Thumbs down.

Poor quality sound. I am sorry I paid for this App, the sound is very poor quality. Even with the add on's. A quick search of the web shows I am not the only one with this problem.

Great. This really is the audio memo app to use. It records clearly, allows sounds to be edited to a degree and saves as .wav files. Only two problems I ran into. 1) One time when I clicked record, the app froze about 3 sec, and I had to convince it to record. 2) It still cannot record phone calls, possibly to avoid legal issues

Needs Attention. I have purchased the options with my version. On deleting many items the app locks up and you need to close and restart. The delete and keep buttons need to be named correctly.

Good app but can't sent to my email. I use the free version which does not allow users to send records when they are too large, so I usually upload to my laptop. Now I can't do this, so I pay for the full version. Still cannot send the previous records :( so disappointing

Emailing memos. Records fine but from an iPad you only have one simple way to share your recordings and that is via email. For me - useless until I can send a memo the modern way- email. Fix it I will be happy!

Great app - needs mp3. Costly with the in app purchases, but works perfectly. The auto start/pause feature is amazing, and I couldn't go back to dictating without it Needs mp3 compression support however...

Problems now appear to be fixed in latest version. The problems I had below now appear to be fixed in the latest version, so I've promoted it to 5 stars. Happy to give credit where it's due. Well done! =========== Tried to contact vendor to report problems but the contact link just brings up a blank page. So this (bad) review is my only option. Before the latest version I could connect my bluetooth headset to my iPhone and AudioMemos would automatically detect it and switch mic and speaker to the bluetooth headset. When the headset was turned off, AudioMemos would automatically go back to using the internal mic and speaker. Since the latest version, however, I have to MANUALLY change the "Use only internal hardware" to record/play using the iPhone hardware and then MANUALLY switch it back to use the bluetooth headset. This is really annoying and my frustration is increased by the total inability to contact the vendor directly. (I hope they're reading this!) In addition, the quality of recordings goes from excellent to fuzzy/distorted when the "Use only internal hardware" option is switched off and I can't work out why. There's no problem with my iPhones speaker or mic in ANY other app. Not at all happy and that's why the bad rating. This seems like yet another company that promises the world and happily takes your money but goes to ground when there's a problem. I want the problems fixed, the earlier version back again, or my money back.

Great app, perfect for journalists!!. Far better and more versatile than the built in apple voice memos app

Great App. Terrific application which is easy to use and maintain data. May be slightly improved with better means of knowing the size impact of changing recording qualities.

Add playlists?. This app is amazing, the only thing is it would be great if you could add the ability to organise memos into playlists? That would be great. :)

Good app for Business. Tried quite a few recording apps, this is the best one I tried. Not perfect as could be more intuitive to use, but very suitable.

Mr. Great quality recording. It would be great to be able to send recordings to pc/mac or to iTunes as big files are too hard to upload or email

Excellent app but slight problem. It would be great if it had not been clobbered by ios5! iTunes sync of files no longer works as the recorded files no longer show up in thye app section of iTunes. Wireless transfer still works. The 99c price is ridiculously low for such a good app.

Great app but..... Great app but is inserting a buzz randomly during recordings. Apart from that it is the best sound recording app I have found. Some of the comments below are easily solved by in app purchases. You can share all your files by web serving them, and also compress them to AAC. The editing functions to trim clips also works reasonably well but is difficult to adjust. It also only trims the beginning and end- it doesn't seem possible to clip a segment out of the middle of an sample.

Glitch alert. If you use a bluetooth keyboard with an ipad, don't download the latest version of this app: the update means the play, stop and rewind controls on the keyboard no longer work on the app. This glitch ruined a perfectly good productivity tool that had previously been a joy to use and worked smoothly with the standard Apple bluetooth keyboard. If the developer reads this, please get cracking on a patch.

DO NOT BUY THIS APPLICATION UNTIL YOU READ THIS. The screen views of this ap;plication do not reflect what you are getting. This sneaky and unethical programmer is not telling you that the features listed have to be purchased separaelt as add on plug ins. So you will not find voice activation, and all hte other advertised features. The software by itself iis no better than all the other applications offered for free. In fact many of the free ones have more features than this one. Shame on you rip off artist.

Distortion every time!. This app which I bought will be going straight to the trash as the sound quality is really lousy. Whoever created this is a thieving shyster and it's no wonder you don't publish any reviews on the current version— no one would buy it

I feel cheated.... I had idea that all those features mentioned for the full video were extensions that you had to buy separately. You guys made it out like you pay $1 and get this really nice sound record app. So in actual fact, your asking to pay $10 for such a simple app. That is $5 more than the other app I was considering... Can I have my $1 back...?

Recorder full version. I am very happy with this app so far- good clear recording. Great for $1.

Lost my in-app purch when upgrading. It was great until the upgrade...lost 2 stars I use it for recording band rehearsals, and it worked great, especially now they seem to have improved the ff/rw function (not so jumpy)

Good app with a few quirks. This is a good app. It works well and has good Help support but it does have a few quirks. It takes some time to work out that you have to make extra function purchases to do even quite simple tasks as others have highlighted. I would prefer to pay the extra few dollars and get a functioning app first up rather than waste several hours grappling with it. It would be helpful tom also have some guidelines on the different file formats and their uses. I wanted to create audio for PowerPoint but only later found which ones worked. However sound quality and ability to easily edit files afterwards make it a useful app worth having. Recommended.

No longer great. My mainstay note taker for a decade. Stupidly I succumbed to an update. Now the play and record function is erratic. Good bye Audio Memos!

Awesome app!. I use this app all the time, recording music parts, lectures and random notes. Like the last reviewer there was a problem with syncing files after the last update but that was solved in less than 12 hrs after I contacted the developers and they explained the fix which was ridiculously simple! Awesome, must have app with excellent product support! :-)

Good voice recorder. Everything works as expected. Only gripes are not being able to name the file without going to a second screen and most importantly that the app takes over the in ear headphone buttons even when minimized. I want to listen to my music, not my own voice!

AudioMemos. Used on my iPad or iPhone is a great tool cos I can concentrate on the meeting instead of writing. Works great in halls also.

Typical. Just the typical direction the world is going, used to get all these features in there older versions now you have to pay for every single feature. Greedy...

Crappy quality. Ios7's built-in voice memo records audios in way more better quality.

Love this app!. It works really great! I appreciate I can record using my apple watch and then listening to it on my iPhone with excellent quality. Although I am having problems sync to Dropbox. Older memos don't seem to show on my Dropbox after I have linked my db account.

Saved my bacon. I love this app so much. I use it for choir practice. It allows me to splice and dice only the best recordings together, allowing me to toss away what doesn't sound good. I've actually made one good song out of many recordings. The bookmarks feature is invaluable, what this allows me to do is get to critical parts effortlessly. I use the repeat function to go over songs again and again in the car. The stock recording app that comes with iPod is junk by comparison.

Does this really.... Does this really record your screen? Cuz it says "Background Recording"

Great app. I needed an app that could record for more than an hour and this one does. I used it for work conference sessions and was pleased with the audio quality of the facilitators using microphones as well as the audience asking questions. The only thing I don't like is that it stops recording if your phone makes another noise like incoming text.

Frustrated. After updated the app, can't choose format. WAV is the only choice! I need more options!

Best recording app for functionality. Love the features of this app. I use it about 15 times per day for the past two years so have really come to rely on it. (Only thing that could be improved IMHO is file compression. )

Meh. Great recorder, does the job, but keeps on stopping when in other windows, and multi tasking. Didn't used to do that. It's very annoying. Reason why I paid for the app in the first place. so I can multi-task. But now, I can't even do that. Please fix issue!

Sipe. It is early good

No distortion. I've been using it to record band practice sessions. It's very good because even though the music is loud, it records without distortion, maybe this is due to the ipad's built-in mic. I can record over 2 hours worth of rehearsals without interruption and it still records in the background while I view my song sheets in another app on the ipad. A couple of things could make it better. I find it difficult to navigate to the right location during playback, it is not precise enough, and I would like to be able to edit and chop up the recording into smaller parts, i.e. extract each song rehearsed while discarding discussions between songs. Perhaps this feature exits and I haven't discovered it yet.

Very good.. I use this app everyday.

It was very good and reliable but.... I would happily give it a 5 star rating if it went back to working the way it did before recent updates. I can’t tell if its the iPhone update or this, but I can no longer record music rehearsals because the gain is not adjustable and the sound is so quiet and many moments are distorted. I suspect it might be an ios problem, but regardless if you want this for recording loud-ish band practice, you’ll have to find another way... unless you fix it, please!!

Extremely useful app. Does the job and does it well. Mind you, you have to get all the extensions so the true price is 7.99 after you factor in those costs. Nonetheless, whether you get all or only some extensions, I find the app extremely good at what it does and useful. As a professional trader, I use it to easily make audio notes when reviewing my trades and associate the appropriate charts to the audio note as I dictate my points. Two features that would make the app a lot more useful are the ability to attach pictures directly from dropbox and / or the ability to view attached pictures natively within the application as I am playing back an audio file. Great job! cant wait for the updates :)

The app is good but. This app works very well but they put the most basic features behind a paywall. It’s a joke when selecting multiple items needs a subscription

Meetings. I use this app to record important meetings in case I miss something. It works great and has been very handy.

The Best. I have recorded many sessions of 8-9 hours of pristine high def audio without a glitch (64GB iPhone). Incredibly professional app I've probably been using for a decade. Excellent for field recording, transcriptions and so on. Six stars.

Presque parfait. Usually i record app sound and microphone sound and we had control over both independantly. But no more in the actual version!!! I need control gain WHILE i record. Where is the gain control ajustement (while we record).? If we could hide the red line to be discret recording too. More comments later. I love IT!! Almost perfect. Love the features in this app and it has become my go to for easy recording, however lately it's been giving me a strange warning message every time I start recording that says it isn't receiving any data. It seems to record anyway, but until this is fixed, I can only give it 4 stars.

And there are no detailed instructions on how to use them properly. Would love to know more about splicing and icloud or tranferring the recordings if you sell your phone other than emailing them. Good, but.... ...after buying the photos add-on here is what I can and can not do: - You can join one or several photos to a recording, BUT... - When you play a recording within the app, the photos are not displayed (BIG minus) - You can email a recording with photos and the recipient will be able to see only the last photo of it while playing the recording. All other photos will be sent as attachment to the email. I was totally expecting that the playback would show all photos at the timestamp that they were added, at least when played IN THE APP.

Finally an audio recording app from Apple. So glad to finally have a good audio recording app. Love how it can save directly to a cloud drive. Wish I could edit and add to recording at a place of choosing rather than appending the added recording at the end.

Garbage. Not overly user friendly, I'm pretty good and patient with this stuff but this one was particularly difficult. Didn't realize how much more I had to buy to get options. Maybe I misread the description but I thought it was going to come with a lot more than the free version. Sadly the biggest perk to spending the 2 bucks was that you can buy more options... My chief concern was that the quality of the play back was AWEFUL. I made a 30 minute interview recording that sounds like garbage. Despite an hour of playing with settings I couldn't make my recording understandable. Smaller recordings sound ok at best but the longer the recording gets the worse the quality becomes. Maybe there is a way to fix my problems in settings but again, I ran out of patience and got another free app that works perfectly.

Not worth the price. Terrible program, and if you want to sent or edit it or anything else, it additional prices. I wanted it as a business app, however I wouldn't recommend it to no one, Notability is a way better program. Wasted money for something I will never use.

Overall Decent audio memo recording. I've found this app easy to use and relatively consistent. However, it occasionally shows an error message and any recording to that point is lost. It's not always possible to see the error message right away in order to start a new recording. I usually set each recording to 5 mins. so that I can email it if needed; longer audios exceed the data limit. It's rather distressing to lose valuable data. Please fix!

"Features" cost $6.99 + 0.99. The lite version was alright so I upgraded to the full version for 99 cents after being lured in by the promises of file compressibility, changing the play speed, etc. I felt ripped off once I discovered that my 99 cents simply bought me the ability to pay for each of the features individually - i felt like they should have disclosed this in the description of the app. The app itself is alright, but I would not have paid for it if i had known this beforehand.

Awesome. This app has many options with all the extensions. Each extensions are can be purchased separately, but it's worth to purchase them all. It records very clearly and voice is amplified. It has great feature to store in local server, Dropbox or wireless file transfer. It has AAC format which is almost 10 times file compression than wav file. I didn't notice big quality difference in AAC format. Great app to record long lectures.

Does not work with a blue tooth microphone. I bought this to use with a blue tooth microphone or output of another phone. This app does not have that ability.

Good for lectures. I use this app for recording lectures in grad school & the quality is good. You cannot email large files though, but I just listen to it on my iPad. It helps when I can't seem to keep up with the note taking in class & prevents me from missing something important. It is also another form of studying by listening to the lecture again. It is a little difficult to control "rewinding or fast forwarding" the recording as it jumps too much.

Fantastic app!. I LOVE this app! I use it every week to record professional sounding audio of my lectures and even some sound recording for videos. It is reliable, has tons of features, and is very stable. It really is THE audio recording app to buy in the entire app store. The built in mic on your iPad or IPhone will only produce a ho-hum result, but adding a professional quality mic can give you, maybe not studio quality, but very excellent quality results, at least for spoken audio. That being said, I do wish that it had a two more features or minor changes. 1) It kind of bothers me that after paying for a pro version I still have to pay for certain upgrades, but the upgrades that are worth it to me - I have not regretted purchasing them. 2) I wish that there was a way to mix the recording using an equalizer or just some basic recording knobs (lo, lo mid, high mid, and high). This would allow me to adapt the sound recording to get a good bottom end or high end on the mix, depending on the situation.

Love/Hate Relationship. I love the easy to use recording capabilities. Good quality capture with nice tools for amplification and quality sliders. Hate the tool overlay that lives on the right side of the screen. It accidentally pops up all the time and opens the app in the background. There appears to be no way to turn it off, which is ridiculous. Who gave this app that much control of my iPad? Hate the export functions. Too limited for people that don't have their own FTP to send files to. Works well if you sync with a computer and use the app tab to find the files you want and save them individually on your computer. Shouldn't be that difficult.

Good app but be careful. UPDATE: I just contacted support and received a very fast response. The issue is related to iCloud and will be fixed in the next update. I will just Be turning iCloud off until then. I was using this app for interviews. I would start a recording in Audio Memos then switch between a note taking app and my interview schedule, with the recording still going on in the background. When I switch back to Audio Memos to check the length of the recording, it would crash and end the recording. This is a big problem, but the app works fine for me as long as I'm not switching between other apps.

Constant Crash. I've using this initially-great app on my iPad 1. I was very happy with this app for more than a year, though there were some crashes. However, a dooms day had come. After replacing the free version with the full version, I started to experience much more frequent crashes. These days, my recording stops at every 1 min. ~50 sec. with an app crash. I tried hard booting of the iPad but found that the symptom did not disappear. So, I installed the free version, hoping that I could record and transfer the file to my full version. Unfortunately, the free version fails to transfer the recorded files. Reaching unbearable level of frustration, I have sent an email to the developer yesterday about this problem. I haven't yet heard anything from them, but hope they are woking hard on it. In summary, if you are happy with the free version, then wait to buy the full version untill the developer solve this constant crash problem.

Unhappy with "extensions" policy. Like many here, I lost functionality during the update to the new version. However, the recommended "restore" function didn't solve the problem. More generally, I take issue with in-app sale of functionality that users would assume is built into the app. Having to pay extra to select multiple memos is absurd. This tactic serves to hide the true cost of the app and trick users into incremental purchases once they've already invested money. The numbers are small enough that one can stop using the app without too much monetary remorse, but the tactic makes me distrust the developers and not want to support them.

Excellent... but 1 feature request.... Just downloaded this app, and so far seems right one with the rest of the reviews; works as advertised. I'm at a seminar all this week, so will update this review after testing it out more. REQUEST: As the app can continue to record once into Sleep Mode, please add an option that allows the app to do it in a "stealth" mode... ie, when somebody turns the iPad on, i'd prefer if it doesn't show that bright red bar with the "Audio Recording" indicator. ie, please give us the option to make it a very discreet indicator, or possibly not even exist at all... u'd just have to re-open the app to confirm it's still recording. They haven't said we can't record. If they haven't officially and expressly forbidden it, I don't want to ask because most of the time anybody who doesn't know the real answer is likely to default to a 'no' answer.... then find out the real answer later (by which time i would have lost recording time). Brilliant!. My first app review after buy and/or downloading hundreds of them. I was looking for a tool to record a week-long workshop for future reference. My colleague had a $500 professional dedicated voice recorder that recorded onto SD memory cards. Audio Memo 2 was more effective that that! First, the sound quality is perfectly acceptable. It's voice. No problems, even from a distance. Second, do yourself a favor and download all of the extensions. Here is why: many times during the week, I was able to clip a short piece from a longer (say, 90 minute recording), convert it to aac (mp3) format, and email it to a colleague on the spot. The in-app conversions turn a 100megabyte wav file into a 10mb emailable mp3. The bookmarks are brilliant. I used them all week. You can type in what was said at a certain point for quick and easy reference later. I've even uploaded the converted files to an FTP server (but it could have been dropbox or or MobileMe) for sharing with the rest of the group. In all, a stunning value for $11 and far exceeds dedicated $500 devices.

Great app.. Works well, good sound quality, more flexible features than built-in app and records in .wav format, which I need. The select multiple extension seems like a basic function that should be included, not a special add-on, but it's only $0.99. You really need to read the manual to see all the useful things it can do--there are things you won't figure out just by using the app.

Unbelievable Functionality. This app has blown me away with its features and quality. At first, I thought "that's cool" when I stumbled onto a feature or two. As I dug into it more and more, I found I was looking at the tip of the iceberg. There is so much built into this app. My wife and I have recorded meetings of 60-80 people (with prior approval) by simply placing our iPhone or iPad under our chair and the recording is just like you're there. People speaking right next to us or across the room were crystal clear and the voice level was relatively constant. A downside might be the learning curve. There is a video and a users manual but it is a bit overwhelming to get your arms around. (We needed a couple of optional features and bought the full version as it was so reasonably priced). If you need an audio recorder (not everyone does), you can't go wrong with Audio Memos. The base model will probably meet your basic needs.

Charging for basic features. Really? Extra $0.99 for multiple selection? If you charged $2.99 for everything I would buy it but another $9.99 for some really basic stuff is absurd. Sure, great app with cool features that does the job well but this in-app purchasing is out of control. Also, crashes a lot. I check the levels maybe every 10 minutes due to habit probably and it's so annoying when it freezes and crashes in the middle of important stuff. I have other apps closed as well.

Was good. Not anymore.. I got the full version of this application to record lecture audio in my college science classes. The application worked fine until iOS 5, now it can't make it through a 50 minute lecture without crashing and leaving me with the choice of ignoring lecture to get software working or just not recording anymore for that class. I would try to reinstall the application, but the lectures I have successfully recorded are still in the iPad. This brings me to my second problem. Ever since iOS 5 and iCloud, Audio Memos crashes every time I try to sync it with iTunes and get the files out. I need these recordings. I did not spend $13 on one application for recreational purposes. Its a shame you can't return applications or get your money back.

Nice app. I have only tested the app so far but was pretty impressed with the sound sensitivity. I was sitting on our screened porch and recorded the birds off in the distance and even the crickets later that evening. I did notice a substantial roar in the recording. It may have been the setting that I applied because you can adjust the quality and volume for your recordings. I turned off the porch ceiling fan and while that seemed to eliminate a little bit of the background noise, there was still quite a bit of background noise remaining. All in all, for .$99 + tax, it appears to be well worth the money if you are wanting to use it for recording memos or possibly meetings.

Great but.... It has almost every option but folders (in case I want not to mix business and personal recordings) and it crashes when you set up password and record on startup (I dont know which one (or both) causes a crash). Please fix it. I need a privacy. This is one of the reasons I bought these extensions. BTW its a good idea not to include all extensions for const price $$$ but make it free and give a choise. One again: I will give all stars when I get what I paid for. DD

I don't want to upload it to an FTP server!!!!. The app works very well and the playback is excellent. The only problem is that you can't simply sync your recordings to your iTunes. When I hook up my phone to the computer, you can't find any of the recordings from Audio Memos 2.74. there needs to be a user friendly way to get your Audio memos 2.74 recordings off of the phone and onto the computer. no need for super geeky ways to email or upload to a server. just simply hook up the phone to the computer and upload!!! Can you make that happen IMESART on your next app update ?

Be advised. Please note that for the .99 you get nothing more, in fact less, than the already built in voice memo the iPhone provides you. If you would like to do any of the things promised in the description you will end up paying anywhere from an additional .99 to 4.99 per option. You want to be able to email it, .99. You want to be able to crop it, .99. You want to be able to insert an additional audio to an already existing audio, 4.99. The list goes on and on. If you want to be able to do everything they say it does, expect to spend about $15. The way they set up their description of what's included and what is available for an additional charge is extremely misleading. Some would say fraudulent.

Fair. DO NOT BUY! Firstly, the options do not allow me to give this app less than four stars. After using the free version, which I was impressed with, I bought this app and have been using every week to record at choir rehearsals. I have always been able to pause and resume recording. Now that feature has gone and only After I read other reviews, I realized that this is a ploy. I can no longer pause and resume. It's either. I overwrite or I have to start a new recording, and that defeats the purpose. I will buy another app.

Good, BUT sync not reliable. Although syncing to iCloud drive was reasonably quick, syncing between my iPhone and iPad was NOT reliable. Hence the downgrade from 4 to 2 stars. I have since moved on to a dropbox-based app, Dropbox Recorder for Dropbox, but am crossing my fingers for an update to this app that will fix the sync problem. I really like this app more than any of the other voice recording apps out there... Simple, easy-to-use interface AND highly customizable (from naming schemes to sort order to bluetooth access). The killer feature for me was integration with iCloud drive - so that I can make a quick recording on my iPhone and then later listen to it on my Mac (perfect for recording todos which I later create as tasks).

I like the flexibility of purchasing extensions. This is a nice application for recording memos and longer events like meetings. You can do more than with Apple's built in app, Voice Memos. I like being able to purchase separate extensions, I can have the functions that I want (Trim Recordings, Use Bookmarks and Voice Activation) and not have the app cluttered up with other functions that I will never use. I recently bought two Sony digital recorders, one for around $100 and the other for about $50. The functionality of this app is comparable, so I think the price I paid ($.99 + 3 extensions for $.99 = $3.96) is very reasonable. The app is fairly intuitive to use, but I found reading the on-line manual to be very helpful, although it is somewhat confusing until you realize that the manual is describing all possible extensions, many of which you may not have.

Needs another software update. This used to be my favorite app, until I just got the new software update for it about a month or 2 ago. It used to be such good quality recordings, but now ever since I got that software update, it turned all of my old recordings into horrible crappy quality and it distorts the sound so much it's atrocious!! same thing happens with every new recording I make. It still distorts the sound even though i have it on the highest quality sound setting. I don't know if this distortion is solely an issue with the new software or if it has anything to do with the fact that my phone is starting to run out of memory storage.

no bluetooth audio (updated). Thank you to the tech support team for their guidance. Along with their suggestions, I also reloaded the app, restarted the iPhone and re-paired the headset and everything is working really well. I really appreciate the options that this app provides! Back to the 5 star rating you deserve. Original posting "Somewhere along the line this app has lost the ability to play the recording through my bluetooth headset. The recording works. There also seems to be an unusual lag between the record button being pushed and the start of the recording. Then, with no headset attached the same lag occurs before a recording starts to play. iPhone 6 with 9.0.3"

Yay! But Ouch!. Awesome app! And with this update, after you re-purchase all the content that you already previously paid for, it's like you've bought it 3 times! What better way to show that you appreciate an app? I'm impressed by the clever new take on free updates. Most developers would add new features as in-app purchase options. Ingenious to make us pay again for the SAME features, under the guise of a FREE update! Hahaha! Ouch.

Timed start function fails. Clearly states in the help file "You can also specify a starting and a stopping date and time that will initialize the timer." In order to use this function the app must be the front app, effectively disabling the iPhone for any other purpose. It is really just an auto calculation for the start timer. And you would have to disable auto-lock. I feel that I was misled as to the capability. I expected the same functionality as setting an alarm in Alarm Clock for a specific date and time and then rather than an alarm going off a recording would start.

Never buy this app. This app was working well before but the iOS 5 update changed everything! It's funny that I lost my recordings and some of them just showed up after a week. I can not see my files in my iTunes so that I can make a copy or transfer. Those recordings that were lost and showed up were seriously damaged files and when played, there is a gap with no audio while it is playing then the audio starts then no audio then...... The app crashes a lot! No support for using earphone so you only have to use the iPhone speaker. There is no support so once you have a problem, you can't do anything with it. I am no longer using this app! I use the built in iPhone voice recorder!

I love this app. For college lecture recordings. I have the lame 8o'clock am class that I'm always half asleep in and thanks to an app that allows me to adjust the gain and what not I can sit in the back and snooze and still be able to play back the recording and actually hear him like I'm up front! I just wish I could figure out how to email the recordings because when absent and asking for notes people expect the same from you and I'd love to be able to send the recorded lecture to them as well but it says the files to large. But overall a great app. & totally worth the $ 👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟

Excellent App! Good VoiceOver Support Too!. So far this is one of the handiest apps I've had. Quick to begin recording, pause and continue recording, 2-finger-double-touch gesture to start and stop recording or playback, rewind and fast-forward along with markers and scrubbing, easy naming of files even while they're being recorded, timer, trimming and merging, and all is accessible with VoiceOver Screen reader. Compression is slow, but I can live with that for now. Thanks much for a tool that's useful in many ways, and very accessible!

Persistent crashes hinder near perfect app. It has the best feature set of any audio app at this price. I understood the cost of upgrades before purchase, so this was not a problem. Unfortunately, all the features in the world are useless if the app crashes constantly. It has crashed every one of my 10 or so uses. Thus, my reluctant 1 star rating. I use a 3Gs and rarely, if ever have problems with other apps crashing. I have tried multiple reboots. Hoping the developer will focus on stability before adding any more features. Then it would be 4 to 5 star app. I would love to use this everyday.

Pretty good. In spite of what another review has said, I think the quality is quite good. It has worked every time, and I can hear everything clearly upon playback. My biggest frustration is how difficult it is to send the recordings off the iPad. I would like to send them to my computer for transcription and upgraded in order to do so. It still doesn't work all that well. In spite of this annoyance, it is a great app, and I use it all the time. I would definitely purchase it again.

Only voice app that emails .wav. I looked at a lot of apps. All of the ones I saw send voice as .m4a or .caf. None of those sync with my secretary's Olympus dictation equipment. This can send the file as a .wav which my secretary's Olympus software (with attached foot pedals) will recognize. All she has to do is import the file from email to her software. So now when I travel I can leave the recorder at home. Email capability only costs .99, so it's a great deal. Sound quality is great. Only con is it only works in landscape mode. Mic is at top of iPad, so recording is awkward. Great app for dictation to email.

Beware of Cheats. You may end up in frustration, if you purchase this app only by looking at the features. Cheat notes are at the bottom of the description. You need to make an in app purchase to use the lot of features that are mentioned in the description. I may give more stars if they are honest and mention what features are free and what need to be paid. Two stars, because they have atleast mentioned in some place. If you are willing to pay another $9.99 for all those features go ahead an buy. But i believe that there are lot of apps for lower price with more features. I'm about to call apple for refund.

Great features poor quality. Great feature set, even if it is a bit expensive. However, the recording quality is sub-par and disappointing, particularly compared to some other free recording apps. Additionally, the best quality setting creates massive file sizes. You can convert them to AAC to reduce the size, but the extra step is annoying. Still, even at the lowest quality setting, which you'd only use to conserve disk space, produces usable audio, though you're not going to want to broadcast it. Also, the ability to protect my recordings with a passcode, and flag them with a position marker is a huge plus for me. Those features are worth the price to me, but this app still has a lot to improve on.

Useful basic app. The developer provides a basic app at a modest price, with opportunities for elaborations at additional cost. I expect the basic version will more than satisfy the needs of most users. The main function, to record, label, and play messages, is completely transparent. Additional functionality, such as setting markers in a message, copying excerpts, or merging multiple messages, require more attention --- don't overlook the excellent user guide. In all, a very fine productivity aid.

Great app. Does not affect my music playback when opening and using this app… That's the most important aspect of it… Other voice memo apps will open up and disrupt the continuity of your music app playback so that when you're done recording, you don't know where you left off. This one handles it okay. The only thing I don't like is that it would be great to be able to send voice memos via not only email but also via text message. Additionally, why is "record" at the very bottom middle but "stop" is at the very top right?????? And it would be great to have a more graphic UI instead of textual record and stop labels placed so far apart.

lame. The engineers of this app must never have written an audio app before. The voice activated recorder cuts off the first 1/4 second of sound. That may sound trivial but it is completely annoying and unnecessary. It sounds like a mechanical tape recorder dictation machine from the 1970's. I recorded myself saying "testing 123" and the playback sounds like "...esting 123 ...sting 123". Its even more annoying because this feature requires an additional in-app purchase for an extra $1. Buffering the audio stream and saving the stream from the time BEFORE the audio level triggered recording is a trivial feature... The high speed playback is also lame and smells like 1970's tape technology. It merely speeds up without correcting for pitch. As a result peoples voices sound like chipmunks. While audio timescale-pitch modification might be a bit more sophisticated than a simple buffered audio activated recording switch, it is not cutting edge DSP science. Including a high-peed playback feature that makes a meeting sound like a conversation of chipmunks is useless and pointless. Again, this "feature" costs extra, adding insult to injury... or would that be the other way around?

Highly Disappointed. I liked this app because of the ease of use and multiple options but I am now on the market for a new voice recording app after Audio Memos "pretended" to record a 90-min conversation but in fact only got 18mins. I kept the screen active the entire time and watched the green bar react to our voices while the counter ticked away the minutes. All indicators that it was actually working. I paused it once around the 20-min mark and then resumed recording - all signs previously mentioned were still there. When the discussion was over I had a monstrously large 350Mb file....that was only 18mins long 😐 instead of the 1h26m that we had been speaking. I'm extremely disappointed in this app. If I can't even tell when it isn't recording properly then I need to search elsewhere for a voice memo app.

Too easy to accidentally overwrite recorded audio. Cool features and ideas with app, but some critical key functionality problems. Specifically, the pause and record buttons are right next to the time line (or it's just buggy) and it's too easy to rewind and overwrite recorded audio, even when there are already notes attached to certain times. There was no warning when the last hour of three in my recording was just thrown away and overwritten. To make matters worse, the pictures and notes from now "unrecorded" times are inaccessible. Hopefully I can access them when I record white noise to fill the missing hour. My rating is harsh, but this app is supposed to record memos and when recordings are inadvertently lost and/or overwritten because of poor design and bugs, the app is critically deficient and does deliver what it advertises. My suggestion is to make sure nothing recorded is so easily deleted. If you are recording long stretches of time in a meeting, when would you ever want to just throw an hour of recorded time all away when just pausing? Why is there even a feature to rewind and overwrite? Not well thought through.

Great app!!. Honestly one of the best apps out there for recording (I've tried and bought so many). The only option I would like to see added (I've bought all the in app purchases...because c'mon, cheap relative to a stand alone device) is the ability to play something and record another section on top (say for harmony in songs). But either way, still the best app out there for recording. Keep up the good work!!

What's up with this new version. Ok, where did the AAC file format go? Either the install went bonkers and the app isn't working correctly or the only file type is wav? I've been using this app every day for a semester to record college classes and what I ended up with today after updating this morning are HUGE files that are stuck on my phone. Can't convert to AAC, can't send them to Dropbox, can't export to Mac, no option to even use iCloud (which is part of the update, right? and yes, the phone and mac are on same wireless network and it doesn't work). Seriously? And I can't say this is directly attributable to the update but my battery is down to 34% when by the end of the day I'm usually in the upper 70's. Bad. Boo hiss & finger wag.

Angry but Opportunity for Redemption. I have owned and used the app for over a year to record class lectures. The app is superb at recording lectures and I especially liked the voice initiated recording and bookmarking features. These features plus many more are only available through the in app extensions. Over the summer I didn't need the app but I downloaded the update. The first day of class I launched the app and to my dismay I find a very basic voice recording app that had no extension and thus none of the features I paid extra for when I originally bought the app. I'm not sure why this has happened but it needs to be squared away and quickly. The worst part is that I recommended this app to several of my peers that own iPads. Let's just say, I want to somehow receive an update that allows me to utilize all of the app's extensions as before. This should be free since no other app I have has ever charged for an update or deleted extensions that I paid for and asked for me to repurchase them. Otherwise, I will delete the app, find another voice recording app to spend money on, and warn peers of this app and the company's business practices.

Better than most. I'm not concerned that you have to buy extensions to expand this app but it doesn't have the the feature I want. I want my memo app to start recording on launch. This is the only memo app I've seems that starts recording when it detects audio but you still have to press record to start the process. I like how you can use the Bluetooth mic so it works with my car stereo. I ultimately want a great hands free experience in my car for audio notes. I still haven't found it.

Try Smart Recorder instead. This app is seems to run reasonably well. However, if you are frustrated with paying extra for all the additional features you thought were included, then you should try Smart Recorder. For the single price of $2.99, you get everything, auto pause, time based tags and multiple speed playback as well as many other features. In the interest of fair disclosure, I should mention that I am the developer of Smart Recorder so, of course, I recommend it.

Not what it purports to be. This app promises many features after upgrading to the paid version. Not so. After upgrading to the only paid version of this app at the appstore all except one promised features are available at extra costs per feature as "extensions," apparently not available at the store. There are major anomalies in the interface. In the settings section I set the quality to the highest (assuming a higher sampling rate) yet when recording, the slider on the main panel is constantly set to "lowest." No details are offered as to the actual sampling rate. Another "feature" is stereo recording which seems to indicate that the ipad has a stereo microphone - I don't think so. I plan no further upgrade or purchasing "extensions." There are many audio recording apps out there and perhaps I can find one whose ads are a more honest.

I Love This App. This app stands waiting for whenever a musical idea hits me, start it up and bingo! it's captured for later development. It is simple and saves by default. No more lost ideas because without my glasses I didn't know to press any additional 'save' button after recording. This app lets you record it and delete it if it isn't what you want. This app also handles other files and plays well with the operating system.

Great App, Recommended if you're looking for a useful voice recorder. I really like this app and use it often, especially for the handy "Voice Activated" function. I was concerned about the switch to in-app purchases after having already paid for the full version, but found I was able to restore all the additional functionality within the app. Some reviewers are making a lot of noise about this: I suggest they try out the "restore previous purchases" button to see if that doesn't solve their problem. Now if only I could find a reliable and economic Voice-to-Text converter, like Google Voice.....

Exactly what I was looking for!. I tried a few other apps, but none of them quite hit the sweet spot that I was looking for. But this one hit everything and then some! It can record with a gain control, you can have it automatically upload to your Dropbox or other server (great for worry-free backup), it can take pictures and record notes associated with every audio recording. This app has it all! Well worth the money.

Good support, good features - recording my dreams!. I am using this in a possibly unusual way. I want to record any dreams I remember. But if I wake up, turn on lights, fumble for glasses, write or type - it's too much. That would wake me up too much and in the process I would forget the dreams (and I have inception-like dreams within dreams). So I use Audio Memos (upgraded to version 2 for Dropbox) and put my charging iPad in a dock near my bed, I set the app to perform a voice activated recording, and low threshold. So now when I wake up, I simply dictate. In the morning, I have a 5-8 minute sound file, because one of the other things I learned is that I snore about 5 minutes a night. I've needed help from their tech support twice, and in both cases they satisfied my request within a day.

Excellent audio solution. This app has saved me a lot of headaches. I can upload my voice critiques of my student's work directly to my computer and then post them to the web. The preferences are great, and save a lot of hand work for repeat uploads to ftp or dropbox. The "all extensions" package was the way to go for me. Only downside is that under many recordings and uploads to dropbox, battery gets drained pretty fast. Great Job on the app.

Broken iCloud Sync. If you already have memos recorded with this app on your iCloud Drive, and you install the app on a new device and sync to load up all your memos, the sync process alters the creation date of old memos. This makes it impossible to properly sort your memos by date. Syncing modifies your files! The app does not deserve a single star, it's actually very good for what it does. But iCloud sync has been broken from the very beginning. It's unacceptable the this app NEVER worked properly with iCloud, hence the single star. If we're paying money for this advertised feature, let's actually have it work for a change.

Works great, try for yourself. I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from, as I used the free version for two years and never had a problem recording or offloading recordings via the built-in mini web server. I like this app so much I finally decided to buy the paid version JUST so I could see what additional options it has (as the free version did everything I needed it to do). So far, the options in the paid app seem quite useful. So, take the negative reviews with a grain of salt and try the free version for yourself. If you like it, buy it.

Paid version not really impressive. This version seems to do everything the FREE version does except upload. I thought it would be worth buying, so I could use on my iPad and iPhone. However, after buying this version from my iPad, running iOS 4.2, I find that it doesn't run on iOS 4.1, which is what's on my iPhone. It looks like I'm stuck with the free version on the iPhone which defeats half the purpose of me buying the app. I also find it a little deceiving that you must pay for each and every optional "add-on". Make the paid version backwards compatible to iOS 4.1 and I'll rate higher.
