Disappointed. I just purchased this application and the audio does not work. However, the ref section is asking to download Chamber dictionary. I do not understand the reason for purchasing this application if it is only for audio. I am not sure what else to say than only fix those issues and I will give you the proper rating. Sound does not work on the IPad 2

This is my #1 tool for Learning Disabled students!. UNBELIEVABLE tool! It does what I bought a $200 device does for print disabled students! Explore it all, the wild cards for spelling help, being able to get adverbs and adjectives for writing, oh and being able to pronounce a word for a student who would have been to proud to ask before. It even keeps a history so USE it for vocab development. I can't say enough great things about this. It's the one app I have on all 400 of our iPods for all levels of students. Requires no wireless which is another bonus! All teachers and students with print disabilities needs this app!!!!!!!

GREAT UPDATES. THANK YOU. Upon realizing later that my request has been already heard I was overjoyed. They have provided the option to type in a word search right away instead of having to always delete the previous entry first (and wait for it to be removed). I changed my one star rating input to five star.

Very Good. Best app i ever bought.

Abandonware? Not updated to v3.71. This is an excellent dictionary with similar (identical?) functionality as the Chambers versions. However, this particular app hasn’t been updated in almost a year whereas the other WordWeb versions are on v3.71. Note that there are two audio versions that appear to be the same. If you want the most current version then you probably should buy the other audio App and not this American version. (At least it seems so.)

I Can't Imagine Any Better. I have tried many dictionary apps and this is by far, without a doubt the best. It will find words and spell check words that leave the others in the dust. I spent more money avoiding spending $3.99. Spend the $3.99 and get the best. Don't do what I did. You won't be disappointed.

No audio on ipad 2. No audio at all. What's the point of purchasing this for? Ver disappointed. Please fix this version asap

Some are bigger but this is better.. Some dictionaries have more words but none of them is more useful for everyday use as both a dictionary and thesaurus.

No audio. The audio does not work. The only reason I bought it. Please fix it.

Wonderful dictionary. I use the Windows version on my computers. This is a good port to the iPhone/iPod Touch UI. The audio is a nice feature.

Audio does not work. Audio does not work, tells me to turn off silent mode, which is not on, or to turn on switch on side, which is on. I purchased this app only for the audio, now I am unable to use it.

Poor app. I had this app for many years “paid version” it is inaccurate and definitions are misleading. Author bias toward individual, group and country is clearly evident.

Best dictionary. This is a great dictionary. I have used the PC version for years and this iPhone version is just as good. The cross reference to the LEO German dictionary works great and audio option is always helpful. Great app. Very useful

The best. I've used this same program on the PC for a number of years now, and it is superb! I found it for the IPad and it just as great. Download, and you won't be disappointed.

Alright in my book. These guys are leading the way when it comes to intelligent word referencing. This new version with audio is the icing on the cake!

I need something like this.. 5 stars from me. I'm a bit behind on pronoucing words so I thought I'd grabbed this, words are clear and very understandable.

The best one on iPhone so far.... With the REAL voice audio pronounciation for 70,000 words and others features found only on best apps of this kind, this is by far the best of the best there is, and for $7.99, it is a steal! I am a non-English speaker natively and this app is invaluable to me. Thanks for a great work guys, keep it up!!

Need some work. Ejaculation: this is the second definition of ejaculation in your WordWebUS dictionary and it reads: “The discharge of semen in males”. It could read: 1. (Males discharge of semen 2. the discharge of semen by males 3. discharging of semen by males of the Species. —-It should be rewritten because like me there are other males that don’t discharge our/their semen in other males. That is the reason why Elohim made males and females of the species, for the two of them, male and female to come together to make (discharge of semen and the semen reaches the egg and a miracle take place)more of their kind(species)!!!

Best use of the technology of any dictionary. This dictionary makes better use of the ipad/iPhone capabilities than any other dictionary I have used (note that there are several other dictionaries that use this same engine with different content). This is the only one that passes the sole/soul test - it really does have a sounds like fuzzy search. It also lets you use wild cards in the search and you can limit the search to just nouns for example. It has good cross references to other similar or opposite words. It works well on the iphone and the iPad. It has useful options in the settings menu. It has cross references to external sites. The dictionary engine is the best but the content is not as good as many of the established major publishers of paper dictionaries. It doesn't have word origins or usage notes.

Audio?. I really like this app but I don't understand why the audio is no longer working for any of the definitions. That is what has helped me with the pronunciation. Hopefully there's an update soon to fix that issue. I paid money for the audio version.

Great. I got this app for my husband, who is learning English. The audio is the best I have heard, very clear and understandable. I will be using this app too, because it offers such great features: pattern search (for Words with ex-friends) and showing sound-alikes.

Love It! One of My Favorite Apps. Frequently I surprisingly prefer this to American Heritage and Oxford which are mor expensive. Very easy to use. Unfortunately ICloud does not work on my edition. I only wish bookmarks could have tags like Oxford and sync between iO devices as American Heritage. I like the range of synonyms & antonyms; and the usage examples are good.

Just what I was looking for!. I was trying to buy a portable dictionary which could also speak the words. I kept reading reviews on those units, but almost every review said the pronunciaion overall, on most words was just so so, to not good. My wife was not born in the USA so really I wanted something for her..in particular to help her learn the proper pronunciation of many words. Audio dictionary is EXCATLY what I was looking for..real people speaking correctly..not some Martain sounding computer voice mis pronouncing words as in those portable units. I suppose there may be better or bigger dictionaries around..but if you need help with pronunciation and want something that works easily, without needing an Internet connection, something that works VERY well..I am very impressed with this app. This is the first app I have ever reviewed here as I really feel it delivers what it promised..and at about $4.99 it's a steal..vs a $79 hand held portable with a robot voice. Well done!

Exactly what I need. I've been looking for an easy to use dictionary with spoken pronunciation. This is it. In the first 15 minutes of use I found out I've been mispronouncing "apologia", not that it comes up a lot. Sorry.

Wasted my money. The whole point I bought this for is the audio and it won't even make a sound. If I have to pay for chambers dictionary then I'm gonna looking for a refund

Outstanding App!. One of the best apps available for anyone who works with words. I especially appreciate the way the program permits you to tap on any part of a definition and go more extensively into the meaning of a word. For the money, it rivals a newspaper and a stamp in the "best bang for the buck!"

I have never seen as this dictionary. It is an amazing dictionary I have been searched and sought for dictionary pronounce and say the word sound in different tenses present/ past/ present perfect and this is the only dictionary that I have seen give you the utterance And the sound of word in deferent tenses. It is really recommended .

The best dictionary app ever. I’ve been using variations of this developer’s dictionary apps for many years, even in the pre-iPhone days when it was only available as a n old-school PC app… It’s the best dictionary app I’ve ever found. The interface is simple and intuitive but also very powerful. The way all of the words are interlinked is terrific, as is the app’s ability to cross-reference other dictionary apps and online sources (including the option to add custom reference look-up sources). The audio-pronunciation options and definitions are also solid, the dictionary database itself has a ton of words, and the app conveniently keeps a (clearable) log of all the words you’ve looked up. I recommend purchasing the paid version of this app (although the free version is great too) along with the other dictionary apps the developer has worked on (for even closer cross-reference integration) if any of those are still available (Chambers and Oxford dictionaries and thesauruses were among the previous options) if you have much need for looking up words at all, as this developer is the longtime maestro of creating easy to use, uncluttered, fast-performing dictionary apps.

Great dictionary. I am a longtime WordWeb dictionary user. The App has improved a lot over the years. Although there are many other good dictionaries in the App Store, I really enjoy using WW Audio Dictionary and definitely recommend it.

Sound is not working after the iPad 2 is updated to 5.1. Please work out an update to correct the problem or refund my money.

Very impressive interactive dictionary. I am not a English native speaker. Sometimes, even the explanation is not understandable. This dictionary provides some asynomas are out of my volcaburary too. But when I click them, the explanation of this word will show up. It's so convineuce. I have bought three iPod touch dictionary. This is even better than the much more expensive ones.

Pronunciation does NOT work. It's such a waste of money. I bought this for pronunciation and now it does not work at all. I have tried everything but still it's not working .. Please help or refund my money !!!

Works great for me. I don't know why all the negative reviews. Audio is working perfect on my iPhone 4s 64GB iOS5.1. Maybe some people have too much background app play (ie; news app, Skype app or other apps that use memory in background play). Most people don't know how to close background play in apps to speed up the phone. One can find this info in Safari under iPhone user guide. Search for background. This app and the Miriam-Webster paid version are the best apps.

I love it.. I've have this app for awhile along with the New Oxford American app (which belonged to WorldWeb before and it was only $4.99, Now it's not in the AppStore anymore but the app is still working very well.) there are cross-references on both of them, I can do link search back and forth which I'm been enjoying them. The app has all of features: phonetic & audio pronunciation, font adjustment ( up to 20PT), clear definitions with synonyms&antonyms , example sentences and much more than I need . Fast and fun search. I hope the WordWeb will have Medical Dictionary app in the future.

Only the words are audio. My daughter has dyslexia so I was looking for an audio dictionary to help her when she comes across a word she doesn't know. I downloaded this to find out only the word is spoken, not the definition or anything else. That really doesn't help my daughter. Sure, she'll learn how to pronounce the words, but if she has trouble reading the definition, her vocabulary is not increased. I know I can turn on the voice over function on the iPad, but that makes the whole iPad function differently.

Needs update. Synonym n antonym needs 2 b added to get 5 stars. Dictionary meaning r not detail.

Great. I really like the different country pronunciation choices. Not happy with the US FLAG on the icon considering that this app has a multinational appeal. Yes colo(u)r me Canadiancentric! .

Use it daily. Despite iOS now having a built-in dictionary, this is still my go-to dictionary. I find it extremely useful especially when the word I’m looking up is not already on the screen (i.e. when I’m reading a book). Request to developer: Please highlight (or add an option to highlight) the last entered word when the app is closed and opened again, so it gets deleted when we start typing a new word. It would be an extremely rare occurrence to want to modify a previously looked up word, yet I have to delete it manually every time I open the app to look up a word. This is especially an issue on larger phones where the x button to delete word at once is all the way at the top of the screen, which means it cannot easily be reached when you hold the phone with one hand.

Pretty good. It's almost perfect except the fact that it doesn't open immediately when you switch it from one app to another. Another words it doesn't have multitasking feature... I would really appreciate if you fixed it... Thanks

Very good tool. Very usefull dictionary, only thing need to improve is word's pronunciation, it should be alouder. I have to tune the volumn on my itouch to maximum to hear clearly. It would kill me when I turn back to music if I forgot to tune volumn down.

Excellent App! Make a few small additions & it'll be A1 !. Could you please add the capability to "COPY" any or all of the bookmarked words so one can transfer words they wish to learn/retain by PASTING them to the "Notes" section of iPod Touch or anyplace else. Similarly, allowing a list of words (from elsewhere outside the App) to be pasted into the dictionary to be looked up right then in sequence or at a later date perhaps would also be fantastic for those of us who eagerly wish to improve our vocabulary! Of the "BOOKMARKED" words, could you please add an additional indicator (a red star, an exclamation mark etc ...) so a persons most important words or the words one hasn't fully committed to memory can be selectively 'highlighted' or made to stand out if one wishes too for more efficient learning! Lastly, could the randomized "Word of the Day" feature be made to be more educational with fairly difficult/not all that common, but very important/useful words that all should strive to have in there own cerebral vocabulary database. FIVE STARS AWAIT, IF THESE SUGGESTIONS COULD BE IMPLEMENTED! Thank you for considering my input; hopefully I have conveyed the importance of these additions, especially for the many that use your excellent App solely/largely to build their vocabulary.

A well-developed prog. Just name a small feature, in any word's pronunciation, you tap it, it shows the keys not relevant to that word, very good thought. Other things i like shaking for random words. I will suggest adding some groups like random GRE words, make it student friendly. Pronunciation is very good, hope it can allow adjusting the speed. Nice work.

No good. This app is just a link to Wikipedia that tries to sell you the offline dictionary and the sound is too loud. I deleted it even though I paid for it

Missing something. I really like this app. Words are easy to find. What's missing is thesaurus by the same company and not by someone else. Chambers is recommend but I would prefer this same brand. I believe they could make a better one. Please consider this.
