The new “Max” needs work. As of writing this, a couple days after HBO Max became “Max,” I need to state that this new app / change needs a lot of work. After I launched the app on my cell phone & on my TV, a Roku device, the first issue that appeared was my “Continue Watching” no longer had shows I was watching & listed movies that I had finished watching & removed from my list. When I searched for the show I was watching, it was not appearing but when I searched for them on my Roku device, it read the show was on “Max” & when I selected it, it led me to the show on the streaming service. The inconsistency is the first issue. The second & biggest is the audio is out of sync on my shows. There is at least a 5 second delay with the audio when I was able to begin watching my show. The out of sync is also with the searching & selecting process itself. This new version needs a lot of refining. Update: thank you for the response to my review, I troubleshooted the app on all my devices & followed the link provided & it did fix the issue I was experiencing.

Y’all had something and then you ruined it. Why did you do this. HBO max was leagues ahead of all other streaming platforms, and not just in terms of content but in terms of the interface design. For some reason y’all took out the little things that made it great. Seeing the writing/producing/directing credits underneath an episode, being able to click on a specific episode and it having its own page, custom profile pictures, genres of movies having their own pages (now you have to go to “movies” then you scroll around until you find the genre you want). Y’all even made the color scheme more basic and lame, PURPLE WAS SO MUCH BETTER. And on top of all this you removed the HBO from your name which is just stupid. I just don’t understand how you can have a perfectly find product then just ruin it for absolutely no reason. Companies need to realize they don’t need to make meaningless changes every 3 years, everyone was fine with HBO max.

Much better performance and more content. Overall, I’m mostly impressed with Max! HBO Max always had performance issues on some of my devices (including newer iPhones, but especially on an older iPad). But Max feels way smoother most of the time, with better search and scrolling performance. Also, with my existing year long HBO Max subscription, I continue to get 4k HDR at seemly pretty high bitrates (possibly higher than HBO Max?), so it makes me very happy that I wasn’t screwed over. On top of that, we get more content now. Even though HBO has far superior TV, sometimes you want to relax with HGTV or something similar, so I’m happy this is now an option without needing to pay more. My hope is that they continue pushing Max to be a great platform in a way that multiple disparate underinvested platforms can’t be. My fear is that quality content from HBO doesn’t get the investment it deserves under the new WBD merger. (I guess we’ll see.) One thing I am VERY disappointed in is the decision to cancel nearly finished movies and to remove completed, reputable shows like Westworld from the platform. How does that make any sense? Honestly, the weird licensing deals which make it very confusing about what’s available where and when need to die, and it seems like Max is a step in the right direction from a company that has enough properties that one service could actually be consistently valuable. So far I’m impressed and cautiously optimistic.

what is even happening?. With the old app (HBO Max), everything worked smoothly. I used it both on my tv and my phone regularly to watch my favorite tv shows and movies. Literally recommending HBO to everyone, I was pleased. Ever since everything’s been transferred over to this new app, “Max”, it will not operate on my phone, nor my tv. I have done the simple updating, delete and redownload, restart the devices, and I keep having the typical problems that should’ve been easily fixed with an update. the screen freezes at the choosing accounts screen and i cannot do anything besides exit out the app completely, and every show I watch will not stay on my continue watching. When I finish an episode into my favorite tv show, the app resets and says I haven’t watched a single episode at all, when in total i’ve watched 12. i’ve had this issue with all my shows and movies, where it won’t keep my spot, and reset and move it out of my continue watching and i have to go find the title and my spot again manually. with this happening with every single show and movie, along with the constant freezing on the screen with no response, i’m extremely disappointed. I thought it was only me, but my boyfriend and family are having the same Issue. what even happened here?? what an awesome streaming service that turned spotty and unreliable. unfortunate and disappointing.

Awesome App. This app is so awesome. It has all of the shows and TV movies that I would find on HBO Max. Though it would be nice if Max can add all of the discovery plus TV shows and documentaries like how it is on the freestanding discovery plus app. Things like the Megastorm is not available, which talks about the typhoon that hit the Philippines. Also, under my list, I would like to see movies and TV shows separated into one area or a group. So, for example, when I click on my list, I would like to see, not just to continue watching option, but also a movies option which separates the movies from the TV shows and one into one category for movies, and then an option for TV shows where the TV shows are separated into their own thing which will make it easier for users to tell which one is a movie and which one is a show. So if we can get that that would be great. All in all, this is better than HBO Max. Especially with accessibility. Before I used to have to scroll down to see my watchlist. Now it’s just like all of the other apps where I can just click the left menu bar and then I have an option to click on watch list. I like it.

Lots of UI issues make it hard to use. Here’s s list of issues to fix, this is all related to apple TV ui, which feels like an afterthought - hero carousels are unusable, trying to use remote to go left and right on apple TV is too sensitive. It just scrolls by 2-3 slides when trying to see the next one - very buggy, I’ve crashed it multiple times just digging thru the screens - all this new content, but its very hard to discover anything new - genre pages are a real mess, having a filter below the top thumbnails is annoying and affects top down scroll, top down scroll is very messy and meantime just resets to the top while in the middle of the page - can’t find all shows or all movies page, which makes discovery really hard, all i can do is poke in these lists - 2 navs top and left and they aren’t even consistent. Top disappears at times, left is totally useless. Old app has one left nave which worked well - hub pages are gone - show pages should allow thumbnails to peek through, instead you are shown ugly series list - overall there seems to be a lack of QA on the AppleTV app since it’s ridiculously easy to find bugs by spending 3 mins in the app - 10 ft UI should have been focused on discovery of content and bookmarking your favorite shows - Like the new hold add to watch list

Quality. I’m actually really upset at the amount of people giving this good reviews. I have had nothing but issues the day I started using it. I’m currently rewatching a show & for some reason Max doesn’t want to leave it in my continue watching & on the progress bars it shows I’m no where through any of the episodes. If I can remember what episode I left off on, I can click on it & it resumes me at a random part of the video, not where I left off, or even at the beginning. Another issue I have is that when I click the skip intro option, it will sometimes (about half the time) only go through half of the intro but the skip button is no longer available. Not only are there issues, but y’all also took away features. Like the being able to upload one of your own pictures to your profile? Now, like Disney +, it only allows you to choose from the characters in some of their movies/tv shows, & the only options are honestly all the new or up incoming things, some of your most popular entertainment isn’t even an option. I just find it strange to remove features. I guess I just expected for Max to be this great new thing but was extremely let down. Please get to fixing the ‘continue watching’ issue because it’s very frustrating.

Latest Update Renders Casting Impossible. App functionality continues to get worse with every update unfortunately (using an updated iPhone 13). Casting is next to impossible: episodes will re-start randomly while you are watching them, volume will max out, and your episode progress won’t be saved. Casting also lacks a “skip intro” button which is sub-standard for streaming apps. Apart from casting, if you try to re-watch a series, or jump around episodes, your progress will not be saved under “continue watching” on the home page. This forces you to manually search the show you were watching every time, guess what episode you were on, and guess how far in you were. Extremely inconvenient. Restarting phone, signing out, deleting app, updating app, updating phone, and using different types of casting devices (smart TV, chrome cast, etc) do not resolve any of these issues. I’ll have to forgo the mobile app entirely and use the website until they fix this app…

The Worst Version of its Predecessors. HBO Max was, to me, the best streaming platform out there. It had a great design, a pleasant user experience, and was organized better than its competition. Max is like the little sibling that didn’t get enough attention from their parents. The calming purple of HBO Max has been replaced by a God-awful blue color that hurts my eyes whenever I look too long at the screen. (Seriously you could just keep the purple? It set Max apart from everything else!!) We no longer get Hubs, which was my favorite feature of HBO Max. Now we have an ugly top menu with only a couple options. Navigating the app for the first time on the tv nearly broke me as the app kept fighting me when I wanted to navigate away from the top menu and back to the featured content. It’s honestly what I expected from the Discovery merger. There was so much potential here but it looks like Discovery wanted to rip out the guts of HBO Max and ship this as fast as possible. The result is an ugly, difficult to use mess. I have to double click to unpause content now. Peacock does that and before this app came out it was my least favorite streaming service. Also deeplinking into your shows doesn’t work on Google TV.

The greatest update of all time, only god himself could perform such a miracle. This app has changed my life, as if Jesus touched his soft warm hands on my shoulder and fixed all my issues. I love the fact that the shuffle button has been removed. At first I was mad, as the only thing I watch on HBO…….WAIT IM SORRY! The only thing I watch on MAX……is South Park. That’s it. I’ve seen every episode multiple times and my depressed autistic husk of a body needs familiarity after suffering through the day. But you know what? Screw it! Lets make using this app more inconvenient and remove a cool feature for no reason! That is Steve Jobs level on innovation . Whoever’s GENIUS thought that was deserves a raise and a nice back running because GOD KNOWS HES HAD A STRESSFUL WORK FILLED DAY! This is the best thing man kind has ever created it truly is a work of art and I LOVE MAX. MAX IS MY FAVORITE. MAX IS LOVE, MAX IS LIFE! I PLEDGE MYSELF TO YOUR TEACHINGS MAX,

HBO great, but not the Discovery content. The Discovery Network now runs HBO, so with the new Max app came a bunch of commercial tv shows from the Discovery family. For those of us seeking HBO's content, we now have to sift through programming that we didn't sign up for like the pimple-popper cartoons and other tv programming owned by Discovery. It's cluttered the app substantially, heading in the direction of Netflix & Prime where they bury what you're looking for in order to push other shows at you. Not a fan of that. Whether using Max on Roku or a mobile device, there needs to be much more direct way to go straight to HBO programming only. My Home screen now features shark shows, children's shows, and other non-HBO shows - the shows I've been trying to get away from, which is why I have been subscribing to HBO for years. Conversely, people seeking Discovery content now have to sift through HBO shows. The app needs to better separate and categorize the content and make the channels simpler to directly access instead of trying to force feed me things I've got zero interest in.

One step forward, Two steps back. HBO Max, or just “Max” as it’s now called for now reason, has completely removed its identity and all of its best features in a needless attempt to be a Netflix clone (this isn’t something you should be proud of HBO). No longer can you upload custom profile photos, which were extremely helpful in our household. Now you’re stuck with generic character photos from different HBO shows and movies (the same exact way Netflix does it. The new blue design for the service/app makes it look just like Disney+ and Paramount now, making it more difficult to distinguish these services at a quick glance. The purple looked great, why change that? App layout and performance is debatable. The only thing I have experienced is that all the menus I was used to are now in different places and have been needlessly swapped around. On top of that, I had to go and download a completely separate app? Why not just update the original rather than give your users more steps than necessary? Overall, pretty disappointed with this change and I hope HBO considers backing up some of these bizarre and uncomfortable “improvements”.

Phone to TV Casting Flaw. Great options of shows & movies to watch however I have multiple problems when streaming from my phone to my TV. One, once I connect to TV it does not let me operate the rewind & pause from my phone like it typically should. Also it does not let me use subtitles at all when casting to TV which is very frustrating when I am hard of hearing. The tool menu pops up at the bottom of the app but no matter how many times I press subtitles on, or press pause, or rewind, it does not work. Sometimes the tool menu even pops up with no buttons AT ALL & I cannot control the movie. flawed and frustrating. I have no control over the movie or show I am watching, cannot pause, rewind, fast forward, or turn subtitles on. Also once I have streamed no matter how many times I close the app or turn my TV off & on it does not stop streaming, even after the app has been removed from my open & live section on my phone it is some how streaming in the background?? And for HOURS. I played a show around 11am then turned my TV off & removed the app from my open list then at 10pm I turn my tv on & re-open MAX & it immediately streams the same exact movie from 12hours ago?? Why did the movie not close from the lower tool bar & have the app reset like it should. Multiple problems of this app not resetting properly. Very unhappy & horrible change.

Terrible User Interface to Search. Did you subscribe for sports and news shows? I did not. But they come up first on my Home Screen. So now I am wasting time trying to search for a show that interests me. There are other streaming providers. They can not even suggest shows based upon what you have watched in the past. This is retained I formation. So what is the issue? They have mixed together many different classifications from science to children's to comedy, adult anime to fantasy to war movies in same category. I have love stories and ancient history in same category. Terribly disappointed that they are unable to get this together. An AI Chatbot would do better. They have many excellent programs, finding them is really hard now that they have combined so many different types of programs under 1 classification. I frequently give up and go someplace else. HBO used to be famous for their series. They mixed up series from every channel they carry now. They have made their streaming service as difficult as they could to watch. Very disappointing customer experience.

MAX vs HBO-Max. Have y’all over there at Warner Brothers development team ever heard the phrase if it’s not broken, don’t fix it? If so, why did you break HBO max? You used to have a bunch of cool features like being able to shuffle which would keep the program running for as long as you like. Now I have absolutely no option but to watch from season one episode one (or wherever I actually start the show from) until the finale. It also used to keep the shows in my list after watching the whole show because it’s still your show. No you must go back in there to the search. Find your show again. Just play it so you can go to sleep. How about the recently added or last chance sections of HBO max that are missing from this new app. While I will admit, I did not use those functions frequently. I did appreciate having them available. I’ll give you two stars because the application does work. It does play the content requested but the original HBO max was at least by comparison a five star product compared to the two that I get this which is a mild stretch. Warner Bros dev team I understand that you guys have to justify your paychecks and feed your families a man next time in executive says that we need to revamp the whole ******* thing. Tell ‘em to blow you. It’s funny the amount of reviews that looks almost identical to this one.

Too many unresolved bugs, the experience is not worth it.. HBO Max, or “MAX”, is probably the worst streaming application out there. It has various bugs on my smart TV and also the new iPad Pro. I used to pay for it and canceled it because I can’t stand how bad the application is. Then I got access to it again because it’s now included in my AT&T membership. I’m now contemplating about switching to another carrier so I can take this application out of my life, simply because of this one issue. It happens every other day; when I open the application, I have to connect my provider from scratch every single time. This last time it was really infuriating. I downloaded a movie to watch while I’m traveling. Next, I’m traveling, and when I clicked on the application it asked me to connect my provider again. When I did it and went to downloads, it no longer showed the downloaded movie there. The funny part is the application still holds the space required for the movie, so it’s there, but I can’t watch it or delete it. I guess I needed a good excuse to delete the application altogether, and come here to write this rant. It’s a shame because I love HBO shows, but they must make their software product teams hate their lives to build an application like this.

From boring to cutting edge. I’ve been an HBO subscriber since the early 1980s and am tickled to see the service that once offered Student Bodies and Revenge of the Nerds as feature events turn into a cutting edge producer of thoughtful and evocative pieces. Sure, it’s easy to say Game of Thrones changed television (and I’m not doubting it’s impact) but the amazing representation in The Last of Us, Sex Lives of Teenage Girls, and Barry is remarkable. And the jewel in your crown that is Our Flag Means Death is your premiere offering. From diverse and thoughtful casting to inclusive story lines, to a writer’s room that reflects what’s really happening out here in the real world, it is a perfect slice of entertainment that I enjoy on my own as well as with my children. In turn, we have all recommended it far and wide as an exemplary example of diversity and inclusion in television. Max is doing it right with this one and should continue on this fine path they have forged through so many channels filled with hate and hypocrisy. VERY WELL DONE!

Review. Personally I loved HBO Max. Only place where you can get every season of South Park. I haven’t opened the new app, ‘Max’ yet, but I will come back to edit my review. If this version has different resolutions for videos I will call in love. Edit: So far, LOVE that it transferred my data from HBO Max so that I didn’t have to log in. First star has been earned. I am happy with the avatar choices. I don’t really like the look of them, could be better, but the profile pictures are from my favorite shows, in fact multiple are. That’s a second star. Certain characters for the names that were previously supported in HBO Max are not supported in Max. I won’t deduct any stars though since as long as you don’t change your profile you can keep it. I like that all my shows moved with the new app. That’s a star. All seasons of south park are still there, that’s a star! I love the new loading animation, and that’s a fifth star. Good job on the app! Sad to see the iconic purple color leave the logo though.

Dark design pattern. Why is there no recently played or continue watching in Apple TV app? Because they don’t care about the user experience. Actually it’s really on purpose. It’s a dark design pattern. They have dishonest executives and folks running the product team who want to manipulate you. It’s all about greed and hoping they get another month out of you. It’s the worst of capitalism. They want you to be frustrated. They hope you’ll start a new show and lock you in further. End your subscription asap! Only subscribe when you want to watch something specific. Search only for that. And this isn’t just a Max (stupidest rebranding EVER) thing. This dark design pattern is on all the streaming apps. It’s gross. And the only way we can change it is to not fall for it! Cancel you subscriptions as soon as you can. Don’t forget you can cancel immediately after subscribing. You’ll have a full month paid for. Subscribe again in a month if you want to continue watching. They hope you forget. Or that you get sucked into something else because you can’t find what you were just watching. UPDATE: oh wow! There is recently played. After force quitting the app. Something I bet less than 1000 people on planet earth know how to do on Apple TV. My dark design pattern argument stands.

So irritating, I hate using the app. Update: I reported it to Max using the link in the developer response before they responded to me. Not a great sign that they’re listening to any of this criticism. Original: Max also does away with the side menu hub. Now you have to scroll to get to the hubs. This is significantly less convenient than HBO Max, with its side menu hubs. Max doesn’t do personalized recommendations like HBO Max used to do. It just recommends the things it spent a lot of money on line And Just Like That, Friends, and South Park. Max doesn’t allow you to not play the next episode. If you back out of the auto play countdown when it starts, the rest of the episode will play, but the back button no longer works until the next episode starts. All the reality TV garbage I never wanted and never watch now clutters the app while browsing it. HBO Max used to be the app I could browse and find something I wanted to watch. I can’t do that in this app. Too much garbage content in a garbage layout. It also did away with the native Apple TV player, so now we have to do things like turn off subtitles when they randomly turn on and press twice to go back or forward instead of once.

Content’s great, HORRIBLE for connecting to TV!!!!. I was excited about the new launch from HBO Max to MAX and seeing what new exclusive content was available, plus they have most of the shows from Discovery+ so now that’s some money I get to save each month when I cancel my discovery+ subscription. All of this however doesn’t matter a bit anymore because MAX doesn’t want to play nice with Apple TV 😡 This means that everything in my “continue watching” on the Max app won’t be on my Apple TV Up Next the instant I turn my tv on. This also means that if a movie pops into my head and I want to search it using Siri from my Apple TV, I won’t know if it’s available on MAX or not before I rent it or buy it through Apple because MAX decided they just weren’t going to share their info with Apple like they’ve been doing with HBO Max for years!! It shouldn’t be this much of a hassle for customers who pay over $100 a year to be able to access the content they pay for! Seriously this needs to be fixed for the transition to MAX to be worthy of more than 1 star

HBO downgrade to Max. HBOMax was classy, well organized, easy on the eyes, and a great app. Performance suffered in recent months, I assume as the Max app was being developed. The blue is obnoxious. The removal of recaps of prior episodes of TV shows stinks (make it an option if you want to do that, but those recaps added so much to the experience in setting up the episode). Worst, when watching minimized, the jump to the next episode drops out the player entirely. I can literally spend 12 hours with your app playing. Switching back to the main app constantly in that time is obnoxious & HBOMax did not work that way; even more ridiculous, if I don’t switch right away, the show may start playing in the background with no player visible(!) & that next episode startup may happen immediately OR even 30 minutes later, out of the blue! The new UI is the pits - ugly color, bad organization. And you dropped the HBO name which was the best connotation there was for denoting quality. (Cine)Max has no class & never has. What were you thinking…

Doesn’t Work As Well As HBO MAx. It’s basically HBO Max but worse. I will be watching a show and when I want it to auto-play the next episode (or when I will click the button that is supposed to lead to the next episode), it comes up with a “Something Went Wrong” screen and I have to go home and then click on the show from there. It’s not a problem on my end given I can simply play the episode from the home screen directly after. I like to lounge in bed after a long day and let the shows play, but now I have to go back and leave the show whenever I want to play the next episode. This never happened on HBO Max, just this app. On another note, “HBO Max” just sounded better. If you say “HBO Max,” people know what you’re talking about. They know it’s a streaming service. “Max” doesn’t mean anything. If you say “Max,” people aren’t going to know hat you’re talking about — they’ll think you’re just using the word as a normal word, not that you’re talking about a streaming service. It wasn’t necessary to change a perfectly fine name.

New app, same low quality. I downloaded a few episodes of a show to watch on a flight. Less than 12 hours later (after confirming that they had been completely downloaded) they were just gone. Made for a boring flight. Instead of making a brand new app with the same problems, consider fixing the issues that just don’t ever go away. The app is also eternally incapable of remembering where I am in an episode or even which episode I’m on whether I watch in on my computer, iPad, or Apple TV. This is your only choice to watch HBO shows, it’s just bad. Update: The developer reached out to offer “help” which was just a link to the downloads page. I understand very clearly that downloads are valid for thirty days after download and for 48 hours after they are started. The developer clearly didn’t take the time to read that the downloaded shows did not last for even 12 hours. Two star rating stays because this is a very badly designed and managed application.

Love it but... This app is one of the best streaming services, the originals are good, the amount of other stuff is also great. But since the Max update all my shows that I was watching were wiped from my continue watching and now I have no clue where i’m at on a ton of different shows. Not only that, any shows I am watching will only show up in my watch later sometimes and when they do it’s usually not on the episode I left off on? Idk why it started happening or if it’s just my account that it’s happening to but it’s really annoying. Also if I pause in the middle of an episode and go watch something else or close the app, the next time I go to watch that episode it will completely start over and I have to skip back to where I was. I really hope this gets fixed because other than that it’s pretty much my favorite streaming app.

I miss HBOMax. I’m not real sure what the issue was with HBOMAX app but I was good with it. The ratings that I’ve been reading on here have been high for this new app. I will give it props for the amount of content. That is a nice improvement. I gave it a 3 star because if I watch a new show or any show for that matter, when I stop, I expect to be able to come back to pick up where I left off. This new app doesn’t even remember that I watched the show at all, let alone which episode I stopped at. That is frustrating. I have been spoiled with all other streaming apps remembering and the prior app remembered. If we can make a request for an update to the app, I request to give the app the ability to remember where I left off at with TV series. It seems to remember movies just fine. I mainly watch it on my ROKU device and I have a ROKU tv. I know a lot of people said the issue was only on the Apple TV devices but my ROKU doesn’t remember either.

What happened ?. HBO max used to be a place where people can come together. Now it is a place where they isolate people. I own an HBO max account. I have now moved it to the “max” app where things are apparently different. Let me tell you why things are different. I own several different television sets. I have my own HBO or what I used to calll HBO on every single tv set. Now I for some reason can only use one or 2 television sets with MAX. So glad they changed it and upgraded their software to make it even more terrible than it was before. I can’t watch with more than 2. I work hard for those televisions and I want to enjoy every single one of them. All I want to do is watch a show that I used to be interested in and this new update is ruining tv and as well as going along with our country’s new values that some people in this country have decided to partake in. I refuse to be apart of that. And while I do refuse to step foot in these childish political issues I cannot help but say that it is disappointing that HBO or as we now call it “MAX” is deciding to adhere to these insane ideas hurts me and is ruining American television and I can say that there are some great shows on the app. I just wish “MAX” as they call it can do what everyone in America wants them to do and make a change FOR THE GOOD instead of negative which is what I believe is happening right now.

TV app since HBO Max changed to Max…. I can’t really say much about the iPhone/iPad app, but the tv app we use for streaming since the update is absolutely horrible. Much more difficult to find content, and doesn’t save progress on what I’m watching anymore. I had to manually search for the series, then it didn’t save my progress even though I was 2 seasons and 4 episodes in. I added the show to “my stuff” hoping it would be the fix, but no. Please fix this glitch! Update (6/6/23)—but not changing my 1-star rating yet: I received a message from the developer asking if I’d like additional assistance. This would be helpful if the problem were with my account, but reading many other reviews, this issue is not a “me” problem. I am appreciative they are taking the time to acknowledge the negative reviews but it seems that may have been somewhat of an automated response they could have sent to all 1 and 2-star reviews. There was a link to a form to send for advanced support, which I don’t feel is useful in this case, as I mentioned (don't worry, I did it anyway just to be safe), and a link to update my review, which is exactly what I’m doing here. Hopefully, though, it will lead to a speedy fox for all of us who seem to be having many of the same complaints!

Max Mishmash. There's a lot more stuff on the channel since the rebrand to Max, but poor layout and navigation decisions have made it difficult to wade through all the crap to find something worth watching. More is not better, it's just more, kinda like cable. (And they have removed some things.) Finally, the flashy start-up graphics ignore my iPad's reduce motion settings. They are painful to watch. Might be time to drop this app until those who thoughtlessly mandated this poor reinvention of the wheel get their act together. Update: now I'm getting emails to request participation in a survey. Are they using a new team that has no access to the years of customer interactions that went into the development of this app's forerunners? I don't like wasting my time simply because a company doesn't value the institutional memory of its previous development teams. A lot could also be improved by focusing on best practices when it comes to user interfaces and accessibility. UPDATE: I do not want CNN in this app. I don't open it for news. Yuk.

Xfinity Provider Login does not work. I can’t connect my provider (xfinity) on my phone at all. When I select the Xfinity provider it takes me to the xfinity home page, then I click the sign in option manually and I essentially just login to Xfinity’s account website as if I was using a browser - it does nothing to communicate back to the Max app that I’ve signed in and am ready to watch. I selected the “remember me on this device” option so that when I press back several times and re-select “Xfinity” as my provider, it automatically logs me in, shows the green check mark, and then shows the users on the account like it should when I log in - but I’m still on the pop-up browser screen, not in the Max app interface. When I select myself as the user, nothing happens, I’m just stuck on that page. And then when I click “cancel”, the pop up screen closes and it says “error” on the max app. I’ve gone through the Max help directions and none of them solve the problem - the app is truly useless to me. Thanks “MAX”.

Horrible App. I have the latest Roku Ultra and this new Max App is extremely sluggish. Every press of the button is a 2 to 3 second wait. That may not seem like much but none of the other streaming apps I use have this issue. My major complaint is that when you watch a TV series after you finish an episode it thinks you finished the series and removes it from the continued watching list. When you go to the series to pick up where you left off, it only allows you to restart the entire series. You have to then manually scroll to find the last episode you were watching and fast forward through it to the end to get to the actual episode you wanted to watch. This is too frustrating to do after every episode. I have never experienced any of these things in the old app or any other app for that matter. I also have zero interest in any of the reality shows they added. They have definitely lost me as customer. After my annual subscription for HBOMax expires I will cancel their service.

Stop changing your name and app. Every generation had their way of saying “this will work better than before” at times it may be true but in this case you had a situation where if it ain’t broke don’t fix it It’s hbo not max stop trying to disassociate from the brand in order to make it seem like you’re bigger than you really are, you’ll loose your fan base with these crazy moves don’t get me wrong there’s more diverse shows with the inclusion of discovery and the merger with time Warner, it’s just frustrating to have to download and redoubload update and login getting logged out dealing with bugs all that work just to put out a new app and a new name? And for what? To say it’s new? It’s the same crap different day, stop making your people run in place with these crazy capitalistic practices you call “economy” All that aside I love your price point and inclusion in internet and tv providers it’s the best price point to carry for any person looking to maximize their screen time whilst still getting your bang for your buck the tv shows and films are great for people of all ages and I really do mean it there’s a show or film catered to someone you know

Getting worse rather than better. When Max first launched, it had issues. First of all, I use a Chromecast to cast it from my iPhone to my television. From the very beginning, I would have issues with it tracking my progress through a series. I would watch 3 episodes and when I came back to start again, it would start me halfway through the 2nd one I watched last time. Also, the “new episode” badge remains even after you have watched the new episode. Those were annoying, but not deal breakers. Now, though, my TV remote that used to pause a show no longer functions that way. Also, clicking into the show on my phone while it is casting to my TV no longer shows the progress bar like it used to… so I can’t easily tell how long I have to go or how long a movie is. The latest development is that the pause button won’t even work on the phone now either. They only way I can pause the show is to disconnect from the Chromecast altogether. I have detailed all these issues in previous reviews… but strangely my 2 star reviews and complaints keep disappearing from the reviews list while the 4 and 5 star reviews remain. Maybe this one can actually stay up and people can get an honest view of the limitations of the app.

Absolute s-show of an app now. On Roku, crashes, lags and freezes constantly. 10 sec rew button use to do exactly that but now just acts as 2nd rew button. Every week or so won’t let you connect at all if you’re subscribing through a cable provider, no matter what you do, says either your cable plan doesn’t have max and/or you have to create an account (account wasnt necessary in the previous app) again. This last time had to create a new account with new email and all my lists and settings vanished lol. Features vanished such as the “Hub” where you could go to DC and find that Batman movies without much searching. Now, you actually have to type it in lol. Or the Last Chance where you can see what’s leaving. Other features like Subtitles (which I use all the time) didn’t work at first but now do, hopefully. No other apps on iOS or Roku have any of these issues. None. Their first rollout of the Max app was arguably the worst functional, streaming app ever, both on iOS and Roku, I thought at the time (now this one beats it). They eventually improved it to where it was decent. So sick of the changes with every new app. Have it as part of cable subscription package and would cancel asap if not for that

They should change the name to Min(imum) because they removed key elements. Why are we going backwards in functionality and user-friendliness with this new app? Did you enjoy being able to press the menu button to easily navigate to separate pages for ‘Last Chance’ and ‘Just Added’ items in the HBOMax app? Too bad. Gone. Now they’re just tiny rows located who knows how far down on the home page that you’ll have to side scroll through and also who knows how these choices are organized, because it’s certainly not alphabetical. Did you enjoy having your watchlist arranged in alphabetical order? Well, too bad. Now it’s arranged in some arbitrary order that you can’t change. Remember how you were at least able to arrange your watchlist in alphabetical order (even though it didn’t stay that way the next time you opened the HBOMax app and you had to choose alphabetical order every time)? Oh well. Not anymore. I never knew just how important alphabetical ordering was to me until it was removed from this app. So far, I’ve only started up one thing since the revamp and it had no issues starting, so that’s good at least. The lack of organization and organization options is aaarrrggggghhhhhh though! On the plus side, it automatically logged me in so I didn’t have any issues there. P. S. Bring back Metalocalypse.

New app, even worse functionality.. I am not sure how they messed up an app that was pretty good. The last update to the HBO max app ruined a lot of the features. I guess that was sign for how the new Max app was going to work. Not sure why they created a whole new app, makes no sense to rebrand it, everyone knows it’s HBO, but to discard all the good things that were created in the last app, and only add the bad things, doesn’t seem reasonable. When I first downloaded the HBO max app several years ago, it was full of bugs, but over the course of several updates they really smoothed it out. It ran very fast, worked as needed and seemed to anticipate changes that were needed by customers. That all changed in the last update and then the new app. I combine them as one because the problems of slow scrolling, bad menu displays and accessibility are the same. How do you fix this, just make it like your previous app and that should do the trick. I don’t understand how it’s so buggy, maybe by design? Your rebranding attempt was a failure. The menu function to quickly go to Last Chance or other movie genres was a very feature one that was removed in this new app. I have read reviews that people are perplexed that others have written good reviews of this app, most likely it’s HBO employees or people who never used the old app, because it was far superior, at least before the last update.

Mostly Hit, Unfortunate Miss... I see plenty of reviews complaining about the app not loading or installing on tvs and crashing tvs along with crashing other apps.. for me personally, I have two tvs, a Hisense 55” google tv and a Samsung 50” google tv that when I opened the HBO Max app I was prompted to download the new MAX app which was downloaded and installed on both tvs just fine. Both tvs opened the app with my account Information already switched over and logged in, both tvs had all my profiles on them ready to select and open just fine, both tvs also play everything in the content including the new SHAZAM movie. It is also nice having quite a bit of added content from Discovery+ to view as well, however my one gripe is that the Samsung tv does run really slow in the app and the quality constantly suffers due to that, in movies and/or tv shows even though that tv is newer, higher quality and closer to the WiFi router. Otherwise no other complaints so far. Happy viewing!

Organization system needs work.. I know it seems harsh docking 2 stars for organization but I haven’t fully explored the rest of the app so I don’t know if there’s anything else wrong. Anything else I might politely object to. The reason I haven’t fully is because from what I can tell it just has “tv”, “movies”, “hbo”, “new & notable”. Whereas the old HBO Mac organization and menu format was more extensive than just the standard Netflix-esque “we’ve separated tv and movies, now scroll”. The things mentioned in the app description at the time of this comment was, not necessarily in this order, “DC Universe”, “Harry Potter”, “Food Network”, “Magnolia Network”, “TLC”, “HGTV”, “Adult Swim”, and “HBO”. However, it’s only “TV”, “Movies”, “HBO”, and “new”. Where this is going is. Is there a way to separate all of those networks/franchises and other stuff (like cartoons and other stuff) in a tab system similar to the old one? Like how other apps and the old version did? Not the same obviously, but similar. A new app doesn’t mean everything has to be different.

Worse than the previous app. I don’t know what’s wrong with this app? The previous HBO max app had a whole host of problems, and some of them have been resolved here. However, the new app seems to have introduced a bunch of new problems. We have a TV with Chromecast, so casting the app from my phone is the only way to watch HBO on our TV. The app constantly loses its place in whatever show we’re watching. Anytime we pause the show for a bathroom break and come back, the show starts from an entirely different spot that we’ve already watched (sometimes starting from a previous episode). Then, we have to search for the spot we were at, and the scrubbing doesn’t show thumbnails of the current screen as I search. It’s a big game of guess and check, and each time I guess, I have to wait 15 seconds for the show to load before finding out if I’ve guessed correctly. Sometimes if the app is feeling especially spiteful, it will throw an error and log me out completely. There’s also no “skip recap” or “skip intro” button when casting from the phone which is just annoying. Why create an entirely new app if it’s no better than the last? Just frustrating

Don’t like the app. Been adding bad content for a year or so now. The app doesn’t allow you to see further into what is leaving, compared to in browser. Used to work on iPad in browser. They removed the option. The app also wont allow you to save some shows and movies. It is also not as easy to navigate. It also malfunctions when trying to fast forward or rewind parts. It’s an app and most apps are garbage. Don’t know why they made it app only. I also don’t want to waste space for another app. Clutter. Plus they made that awful show Velma, and never made a second season of peacemaker. One show, Velma, got the worse ratings of any show that ever existed. They say they are making another season. While peacemaker got amazing ratings. The people running this network are moronic dog crp trash. I will be canceling soon and will probably never come back as they have not added anything worth watching in awhile. Our flag means death season 2 might be worth a watch but that is is. Avenue five was a millions times better than that Velma crud. Does anyone know that the chick who wrote that ragged about sxually assaulting people on the conan show. Max wants to support that mindy puke. Nope. Go woke go broke. I hope this goes the way of bud light.

Way better in lots of ways.. I love the new max app for many many reasons. i used to have so many problems with the old hbo like it would always crash. i swear some days i couldn’t even watch my show because 4-5 minutes in the app would crash and not let me back on. i have to say that not having to deal with that brings me relief. another large improvement i’ve seen all the new titles on Max. the first day i got on after the update and i was bewildered. so many choices of great movies and shows with DOUBLE the amount of streaming content. I also enjoy the new navigation menu. all of these changes have brought a new era to Max. But. I have an issue with how the home screen looks. i feel like that’s the only thing that didn’t change much and it looked almost identical to hbo max. i was hoping for some more vibrant colors or a new sleek and modern design when scrolling through what to watch. that’s been my only issue with the app so far. i love Max and i will continue to look forward to exciting new changes!

No better than the last app. I'm having some issues with my downloads, they don't display after I close the app. I tried re-downloading the same episode and after checking my iPhone storage I find that it has actually downloaded twice. I have tried deleting the app and re-downloading the apps and still have the same issues. I have provided a screenshot of my iPhone storage to show that episode one of "the last of us" has been downloaded twice, but after closing the app and re-opening the app the episode has disappeared from my download list. I live in a rural area so my downloads are very important to me for entertainment, we don't have a lot of cellular service and home Internet is not cheap in this area. These issues I am having now are the same issues that I had before with the previous app before this new app came out and ended my subscription because of it, if this issue isn't resolved I will do so again very soon.

App has log in issues. I really liked the HBO app, it was easy to use and you could have it on your phone or tv and it would stay logged in. I don’t like that the Max app keeps logging out from every device and to log back in takes forever. Customer service asked me one to talk to my provider but that it’s not issue. The problem is the Max app. I would be watching a show and out of the blue it would crash. When I try to log back in it would display an error message of can’t verify subscription. If I continue trying to log in, it would display a message to create an account. When I do create a new account it says I already have an account and still it will not log me in. last time I call customer service, they asked me to delete the app and reinstall it. It work for that time. They told me the issue won’t return and what do you know it log me out again. Even reinstalling the app several times did not work. It’s so frustrating! I’m spending more time trying to log in to the account than watching something. The only good thing about the max app is that it has good content, that I want to watch, but if I’m going to spend more time logging in than watching then what’s the point.

I enjoy the service, not so much the UI. I’ve been using HBO Max since 2020, and I’ve enjoyed the selections that have been available, with only a few exceptions (looking at you, Dragonball Evolution). When I managed to access Max (which transferred my account with no issues), I did notice that I had some personal issues with the User Interface. It’s not to say that the interface is terrible, but it is certainly lacking when you compare it to HBO Max’s UI. Selections are categorized by genre without a clear option for seeing selections from A-Z (it does have alphabetical order for genres, but it feels somewhat tedious to go through each genre to find what you’re looking for, especially if your choice is listed under multi genres). The service is also lacking dedicated pages for new titles and titles that are being cycled out of the service, and the section for titles leaving Max doesn’t notify you that the titles are leaving by the end of the month (I think a lot of people would appreciate having that feature on Max). Again, I still enjoy it, but I’d appreciate it if elements from HBO Max’s UI were reintroduced to Max.

Worst update of all time. HBO went from HBO to HBO Go to HBO Now to HBO MAX to just MAX. I don’t know what’s happening here but the latest update has made their steaming app the worst thing ever. Rewind, fast forward and even the pause function is horrible. Forget wanting to run back without having to escape the whole thing. I hate this new format and literally want to cancel my service and stop using it. I don’t know who’s genius idea it was to take something that worked just fine and totally change it. The “start from beginning” option is gone, the subtitle function is more difficult to use now and the user experience has gone from a 9 to a zero. Instead of rewinding properly you just get a sound that makes it seem like something is happening but nothing is… I have to think they’ll change it back to how it functioned before but nowadays people just change things for absolutely no reason. Maybe someone there just needed something to do. There’s literally nothing good about it. Zero improvements and nothing but problems.

New update has many bugs. Hi, I’ve had hbo max for a long time now, but ever since the new update to max, it’s had a lot of bugs. Before the update I’d finish a series and be able to restart it from the start without playing at the ends of episodes. Also while it goes to the next episode, as well as starting from the end, it wil now sometimes close the app on the tv out. Additionally, it won’t save series under currently watching if they had been watched before and when restarted it still doesn’t save it. Not sure why these bugs are now here but hope they get fixed soon. It’s become almost impossible to watch as well as a lot of the cartoon series are being dropped and some missing episodes. Like Clarence is now gone and regular show is missing episodes. I thought Cartoon Network was bought out by whoever ultimately is over the Warner brothers shows but now they are disappearing after getting them so that doesn’t make sense. Not sure why but hope all these problems, and series get back soon. Thank you, I really appreciate it.

New app is horrible — UPDATE: Still not working on Roku. UPDATE: Months later, I’d hoped they had worked out the bugs so I could watch some favorites on my TV. I even tried subscribing through Roku instead of Apple, thinking maybe if I did it directly, it would work. Nope. It gave me an error message right away. 😣 I really enjoyed HBO Max, and regularly subscribed, but since the switch and all the screw ups and absolute frustration, I don’t know if I’ll ever come back. I don’t want to watch on my computer or phone, which is the only place the app works. Would you all PLEASE put some time into fixing the app on Roku? There are a lot of us loyal Roku users out here who aren’t going to switch for your app. *********************** It automatically signed me in on my phone, which is great, but it isn’t working at all on Roku. There’s no way to sign in online if you’re steaming through a Roku, so you have to key in all of your info, which is a pain. Then it kept saying “something went wrong,” so I tried resetting my password. Still didn’t work. I tried restarting the Roku. Still didn’t work. Tried getting help through “app support,” and it doesn’t even offer Roku as an option! Plus you can’t even get a person on the chat. It’s all bots, which are clueless. Can I please have the HBO max app back? This one BLOWS.

Whoever decided Max should be a thing needs to be fired.. The whole rollout of Hbo Max’s new “Max” platform is an absolute joke. First off, on launch day Max wasn’t even available on my Roku TV. Tried to google how to make it work but the internet doesn’t know what Max is, only what HBO Max is so all troubleshooting for “max” was useless. Waited for them to fix all their disastrous errors and tried to log in the next day. All of a sudden my password is not correct and to update my password I used the web address provided on my tv screen. Each time on the web address you clicked Sign In it would take you to the App Store to download the Max app. Once the app was downloaded I proceeded to attempt sign in using the forgot password option, it emailed a link that I then updated my Password ON A WEB BROWSER!! What did I need the app for? This whole thing is completely not worth even having the service anymore and even though it’s minor in the grand scheme of life, in the moment it was frustrating enough for me to consider cancelling my subscription that’s increasing in price anyway with this new rollout. Cool. Thanks, Max. 👎🏼

App has SERIOUS GLITCHES!. Every time I stream the app on my tv from my phone it glitches. For example, I’ll put on a show I want to watch, put on an episode and it’ll work after I exit out of the app. But as soon as I turn my phone on and go into the app it completely restarts the episode of the show on my tv. I cant turn up the volume of what im watching from in the app, I cant fast foward or rewind the episode without the entire episode starting over because I entered in the app. It’s especially annoying when I turn my phone and the last app I was on was HBO so it’ll automatically restart after I enter my phone. The app has other glitches too, like not being able to turn the “read aloud” subtitles off that talk over the entire show I’m watching. Sometimes the option to turn them off will be there, and sometimes it won’t. I have great internet connection, my cache is cleared for the app, I’ve tested all the casting options on my tv, restarted my chrome casts, AND my Roku tvs, I deleted the HBO app and re-downloaded it but still the same problems. I’ve been waiting over a month for a new update that might fix these bad bugs. But nothing has changed. This app does not work how it says it should.

Love it!. I am a new subscriber who was drawn to this service because of its link to CNN beginning in latter September. But I can honestly say that even before the streaming launch of CNN begins that I am truly enjoying Max’s existing selection of TV and film choices! Plus I was able to drop my subscription to Discovery Plus since so many TV programs are duplicated on Max, thus saving me money. My only wish is that Max would offer more reality dating shows from all countries as, embarrassing as it is, I am hooked on them! I cannot wait to watch some form of CNN again since cutting my cable cord, especially with the 2024 presidential election coming up. I may be in the minority based on their dismal ratings, but I still find CNN interesting and thought provoking. Hurray to Max for bringing them to a streaming format!

Terrible app. Garbage app from garbage monster David Zaslav. This thing never remembers what I was watching or which episodes I already watched. It also keeps taking me back to the top of the home page rather than where I was in the home page so I have to keep finding everything over and over. Titles that start with “A” or “The” are filed under “A” and “T” because the people who made this app are dimwits. And it no longer tells you the writer and director. It just has some vague label that says “Creators” and then just lists a bunch of names in random order and you don’t know who did what. This is because Zaslav hates creatives and wants to muddy the waters between scripted and unscripted. And there needs to be an option so that none of those awful Discovery shows ever appear on my home screen. This merger has absolutely ruined Warner Bros and what was once very respectable streaming service with an amazing library of content. Fix this garbage app, fire David Zaslav, and pay your writers!

Miss the old HBO max app. In one way very frustrated with the new app and out of that frustration wanted to give one star and maybe even two is too low. However, the frustration of finding something new is very big. Use to get on and go to just added and see what was just added. The new avatar movie is on and get a pop up showing it’s there, but it’s not in just added. It’s still showing the same thing for the last week. I really enjoyed it before the change. Now it reminds me of a couple other platforms where I feel they are trying to hide the new stuff. I could check every day and see if something new was out. Now I just don’t feel like having to dig or think there isn’t anything new and wonder if it’s even worth it. The new app seems to function better on my tv at least. Never had a problem on my phone before, so not sure that makes up for much. I really hope you can resolve this. Thank you for your time

Reduce latency and read and write rights while casting. This trash pile of an app keeps spiking up the volume to my tv speakers all the way to 100. If casting gives the app read and write rights I don’t want it plus it’s slow loading a simple movie with ads takes nearly 2 mins. And now I can’t get rid of auto description!!! Control of language needs to be in settings and option for auto description language also needs to be global in the settings part of the app as to how this app keeps choosing Spanish for me makes no sense I’ve deleted and installed cleared my cache if cast even from my laptop and I’m running to the same issues??????? How ???????? I’m experiencing this issues of auto-description with the movie ready player one the same issue isn’t there for other movies and tv series but thats there across all movies and series it the spiking of my tv speakers something no streaming app does

Menus? Hubs? Organization? Just scroll forever!. So here we are: after all the hype, HBO Max has become “Max,” a clunky app apparently coded by people who never used a streaming service before. It’s ridiculously difficult to find whatever you’re trying to watch. Some unqualified person decided to add content and remove the sidebar menu. There are no useful menus or easy hubs, just multicolored tiles randomly hidden in the middle of the home page and the bottom of everything else. Even worse, the category tiles at the bottom throw everything together into giant buckets, with no way to sort the BRANDS corporate Hollywood loves so much. You scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll. I refuse to believe this thing was tested with users, journey maps, or anything else. I gave it three stars for its content, but this is one of the worst streaming apps out there.

Ugh. I really don’t like the new app. The old one was pretty good, and it actually had a usable, recognizable name. Now it just seems like some dumb conglomerate of companies, like Disney but kinda stupid. Just call it what it is, HBO. In terms of acquiring it, I had no idea they changed until HBO Max told me it doesn’t work anymore and to get the new app, so I did. Luckily, everything moved over without me even having to put in a password or anything, which is great because I’m using someone else’s account, but not so great for your security. Now, for the app itself, it has some glitches, just a couple little things that make me instantly upset that I had to change apps, but they’re mostly minor bugs that could probably be patched in the next update. Still, not happy. I give it two stars cause I wanted to give it one because I don’t like change, but I’m being generous in that the app itself works alright.

My review on the new HBO max app. The new MAX app looks very nice, they simplified it down and made it look so much more clean and smooth, usually people don’t like it when companies simplify their brand but how the new MAX app did it is very nice and I appreciate the work they put into. Another thing I want to point out is how the new MAX app can finally play movies/shows while off the app, what I mean is how you can get off the app and still watch the thing you were watching and do other things on your phone at the same time, I love this new addition because I multitask a lot and a lot of my favorite shows were on HBO max and now I can watch them on the go on the go? Lol, but actually I really appreciate the new app and I don’t think it deserves the hate it’s getting right now.

The titles are good but the app/channel still needs work. I have a few titles in rotation to be completed for viewing however, every now and then I will see a title be removed without me knowing it as well as certain titles I watch not being at the right spot I left off because it didn’t recognize it was watched on another device. Also when watching the titles via a streaming smart tv like Roku, etc the show toggle description is a bit delayed and jumpy and it doesn’t appear for the viewer to start from the beginning of the title, in any case it has to be rewind manually to the beginning. There are still a few more bugs to fix but the titles available are good.

BEST APP EVER!!. HBO MAX is an extensive streaming platform with a vast and impressive collection of content. From popular HBO series like Game of Thrones and Westworld to cult classics like Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, HBO MAX offers a diverse range of TV shows and movies. The user interface of HBO MAX is sleek and user-friendly, making it easy for even first-time users to navigate and find the content they want to watch. The search bar is intuitive and works well to find specific titles without fuss. One notable feature of HBO MAX is its section of original content, featuring unique and innovative programs like Lovecraft Country, Raised by Wolves, and Euphoria. These shows are not only entertaining but also tackle important social and cultural issues, making them stand out from other streaming platforms. One downside of HBO MAX is that it is a bit on the expensive side compared to other streaming services, but its extensive content library and original programming make it a worthwhile investment for fans of HBO shows and movies. Overall, HBO MAX is an excellent and impressive streaming service that offers a diverse range of content and has a well-designed user interface. It's definitely worth a try if you're a fan of HBO's productions.

Not great and sketchy. The app itself is obviously worse performance wise as well as UI, finding things like categories is now behind multiple other screens, the hubs for the different companies programs and movies are gone which isn’t the worst but it was something I used quite a bit. My biggest concern, and why it’s a one star review instead of maybe a 2, is how does this brand new app have 112k reviews almost all of them being 5 stars, it should be a completely different app listing since it forced me to download a COMPLETELY different app. If it is, then no one this planet can expect me to believe roughly 100 THOUSAND people gave this 5 stars almost immediately despite the fact I have not heard a single person mention anything good online or in person. I have heard tons of complaints just like mine which aren’t completely experience destroying but are nowhere near 5 stars quality. Definitely seems like something sketchy is happening there.

Oof. This is one of my favorite networks and I’m mostly reviewing the app for TV, not mobile devices. Since the transition from HBO Max to Max, everything I watch through the TV app has been sticky and glitchy. For example, I’m currently watching a show. When I hit pause, then play to start again, the show reverts to the very beginning or goes back three scenes, instead of picking up where it left off. It also freezes and crashes on a very regular basis and sometimes doesn’t remember shows I’m watching so I can continue watching them.. I hope this is just all part of growing pains, and that the current bugs will be squashed as new versions get updated. I’m also so bummed that I can’t choose my own avatars. I used to have cute photos of the users in my home and now I’m being forced to select from cartoon characters that I know nothing about.

NOT ENOUGH DC content & appreciation. I don’t understand for the life of me why don’t they just release the DC comics universe content directly, and exclusively to HBO max? I’m not paying all this money for HBO max for nothing. I specifically paid HBO Max to give me everything DC hub can offer, so why not release the newest content DC comics Universe has to offer DIRECTLY TO THE DC HUB/HBOmax?????? 🤦🏽‍♂️ 😡 This is why, as much as I hate to say it because I hate (SJW PROPAGANDA) & the directions that Marvel/Disney are going; but that is the edge that Disney and marvel has over Warner Bros./DC. All Marvel content, for the most part is exclusively released on Disney+. Yet you have to wonder & guess what is included on HBO Max and what isn’t because it seems like there’s so much missing for the DC hub. In fact, the DC hub doesn’t even really get much screen promotion on their app. It’s almost like they want them to be on the back burner or forgotten about and it’s a shame, because if it wasn’t for DC, I could care less about HBO.

A good start, features could be polished more. I wish there were better category options like HBO Max had, and also a like or dislike option so you could be recommended to what you might like. I used Discovery+ only for paranormal stuff and HBO Max for Studio Ghibli and it’s just annoyingly frustrating to find what I liked watching before now since everything is so generally categorized instead of its own page. It feels like any other streaming app now with simple, boring categories, and too many items thrown all over the place (pretty much why I don’t watch Netflix much anymore, it’s all too chaotic even with the “like/dislike” features). I’m hoping it gets better over time, as the fluid overlays were what kept me coming back to both HBO Max and Discovery+

Buggy. Since the change from HBOMax to Max the cell phone application has had several issues causing it to crash and also to crash my entire phone and cause it to restart. The app has stalled and left the screen frozen while streaming audio continued for 6/6 uses and had caused my phone to restart mid-streaming 4/6 uses. If I get a notification or adjust the volume controls while the application is running, the screen direction will automatically adjust and rotate instead of remaining in the direction of phone rotation. This occurs even with the screen rotation locked! These are not cell phone issues, I have a relatively new phone updated to the most recent OS. No problems on the television applications so far as I can tell. And yes, all my favorites are still there, the same great HBO selection. But the phone crashing is the most annoying thing ever.

Extremely slow and horrible audio problems. Let me start by saying that as soon as I noticed the shuffle button was gone I knew Max would be a total let down. Max works decently enough on my iPhone but it is frustrating that I have to airplay shows on Max onto my smart tv because the app on Roku is horrendous. The interface is slow and glitchy and the couple of shows I’ve watched since downloading Max have horrible issues with audio playback. The audio is corrupted and you hear what’s happening at least 30 seconds before you even see the events on the screen. Airplaying shows from Max on my iPhone onto Max on my smart tv is the only way to avoid this and it’s annoying. HBOMax was doing so good before it got switched to Max. The interface was running smoothly and there were no audio issues. We even had a shuffle button! It’s a shame the Max app has taken such massive steps back from the progress HBOMax had made.

The rebranding has ruined it. I loved HBO Max. It had the tv shows and movies I loved, making it my go to app throughout the day. However, since they’ve rebranded, the quality of the app is completely gone. I’m no longer able to continuing watching shows or movies. The continue watching tab disappears once the app is closed. I’ve had to scroll through movies and shows on multiple occasions just to find where I left off. I’ve tried uninstalling, reinstalling, closing the app, and creating a new profile but nothing has worked. What’s worse is that Max isn’t even acknowledging the problem. Im at a point of cancelling the service until they fix their issues. There was no need to make changes to the functionality of their app, but whatever they changed broke it. I realize this is a small problem when you’re looking at the big picture, but I don’t want to pay for something that isn’t going to work. Not recommending to anyone until this issue is acknowledged and fixed.

Unnecessary. The new Max is terrible! It does NOT keep track of where you left off with a series so you better write it down, take a picture, or have a photographic memory. Also, if you want to watch a specific episode, you have to choose the episode prior to that, because it starts playing from the end of the episode you selected, and starts the next one from the beginning. For example, if I want to watch S1:Ep3, the app will play the credits from that episode, and start playing S1:E4 even though that isn’t what was selected. Very annoying! You no longer have the option to choose your own picture for your profile. I also can’t access everything on my list from the home screen. I have to use the left navigation and choose “my stuff” to access my entire list. I’m not sure what prompted these changes but the previous version of the app was just fine. These “updates” were completely unnecessary.

Worse than HBO Max. The app in it’s current state is buggy and has idiosyncrasies that HBO didn’t have. Like not only adding previews for other shows to the movie you’re watching but adding it to the timeline so that if you go to the beginning it starts the preview over. However, the worse thing for me coming from HBO is the archaic practice of charging extra for 4K and HDR. The bandwidth costs to stream 4k over HD are negligible, making this a blatant money grab that keeps watching content the way creators intended out of reach for many viewers at $20/month. Ironically, 4k HDR is the one of the only advantages first party apps have over the numerous pirate sites out there, so by removing 4k HDR from standard plans they essentially remove one of the top reasons to pay vs pirate. I personally am willing to limit myself to services (like disney+ and apple tv) that don’t charge extra for 4K solely for principle. HBO had a loyal customer in me. Max, not so much.

Not worth the price. I’ve been using the app on iPhone, iPad, and roku for about a month and I will cancel as soon as I’m done watching a few more shows. Transitioning between the previously mentioned devices is not smooth and I constantly have to remember where I left off on the previous device and fast-forward on a new device since the app can’t seem to remember. After pausing a playback, it might start where you paused it, it might go back 10 seconds, it might go back 20 minutes… you never know what it’s going to do. And the “For You” section is a joke. Stuff I would never watch, but there is no option to remove the suggestion, or to like/dislike something to improve the suggestions. I’m also writing this review when the playback decided to stop, which it does often. I have to go back to the main screen and restart the show from there for it to start again.

Dreadful!. This app is so much worse — so much less user-friendly — than the previous HBOMax version! For example, you used to be able to view your list of bookmarked shows/movies in alphabetical order, which was very convenient for finding the title I wanted to watch. That capability is gone. Now you must view your list in the order in which you bookmarked the titles, which frankly is less than useless. Why would they get rid of letting the customer choose?? Also, they got rid of the option menu (upper left corner of the old app). It was very convenient for navigating around. And it’s not as though they replaced it with anything better. They just took away that convenience. It’s as if they put all their energy into making the app look snazzy and decided to ignore functionality and user-friendliness. Blech!

Good quality / poor implementation. This app contains the best quality out of all the streaming apps in my opinion. However, this is because HBO was already known for it’s high production. The previous app went from being barely functional, to working exceptionally well. This app has restarted all of that progress and works okay with much to improve. I constantly cast to chromecast from the app and it works maybe half of the time. On top of this, the app stretches the image which isn’t an issue but is off putting. A big functional issue is when casting, there is no slider to rewind, fast-forward, play next episode or anything. This is highly unintuitive as wherever the video is becomes where you are stuck. These functions do exist except that they are only there 40-50% of the time causing me to have to constantly disconnect, reconnect to the chromecast and hope the settings are there. THEN, once I finally close the app and get settled, if I ever wanna change the time again there’s a chance the options aren’t there and I’ll have to go through the whole process to obtain basic app functionality with time control in a streaming app. 0 stars for the functionality, 3 for content.

Can’t see the difference. Apart from the fact that they released a buggy app that won’t even allow you to log in, this app does not seem to perform any better than their previous app. It’s hard to tell if they released this app as a joke or a serious effort to fix their extremely poor performance with the previous one. Will have to wait and see if this is more than just a cosmetic fix. Edit: After using it for a few days I’m changing my ratings. After the last update, this app seems to perform much better than their previous app. The UI/UX is still not good. For example, when I click on the title of a show, it starts streaming immediately when I just want to go and pick an episode to play. The play button and the title should have different functions.

Horrible To Navigate. The UI leaves an awful lot to be desired. It’s an incredibly frustrating adventure to scroll through the endless jumble of disorganized and mashed up content. I don’t particularly care to scroll through Sister Wives and My 600lb life in an attempt to find a DC movie or a hard hitting documentary. While you can search by hubs the process to get there is equally as aggravating as scrolling. The main page feels like a cluttered nightmare and the process of trying to find something to watch makes me just click out of the app and head to somewhere else. As a user of Discovery+ and HBO Max I can honestly say I never had a desire for the content to be smashed together, let alone in such an unappealing package. I’m sure performance issues can be addressed on future updates but the entire concept is a mess from the ground up.

Audio Subtitles Languages. Hbo has been a pain when it comes to audio subtitles and captions. Out of all the streaming services it is so unnecessarily complicated. It only works when it’s watched directly from the phone. When I try to do anything with the audio it always says you can customize in settings, despite the fact the they could literally just do it on the home page or on the show or movie itself there is also nothing in the settings for it. When I try to chrome cast it has commercials and subtitles in English but won’t let me change the language from Spanish. When I try to watch on Roku the audio was audio description for English and English description so there was narration over the show. It’s literally comical how it’s always one little thing that has to ruin it. It sucked on Hbo Max and nothing changed. Except the blue which was a choice, a bad one but a choice indeed.

Disappointing Change. Back when it was HBO max my family loved it. The last couple months of it’s life as HBO max it didn’t add much good content, but we held on. Now the change to MAX has arrived and we’re all disappointed. The previous amenities we had like 4K and “premium audio” are locked behind their “ultimate package” at $20. If you let your account carry over it puts you in the middle ground remaining at $15 but you lose 4K and basically all hearing capabilities. Before I’d have my volume set to 30 or 35 and hear just fine. Now I have to put my volume up to 80 to hear anything. It’s not my tv I checked other streaming services and they’re fine. With the lack of good content and forcing the kind of tv you would only watch when you’re home sick from school this revised app is a complete failure. The only reason they don’t have 1 star is because they have some nostalgic content but that’ll only save them for so long.

MINOR GLITCHES. Not many from time to time the darker parts at the bottom and top of my screen (from checking remaining time or pausing the movie/show) will remain after the other has gone away and I have to restart the app to get it to go away (at first I thought it was just my phone but then it happened on my television and I thought maybe it’s my wife but tonight me and a friend were watching a movie and it happened on theirs too- so I know it’s not just my account or my wifi) -some times the subtitles are cut off at the bottom of the screen (also tested this in several ways my phone and the movie with my friend) -that’s it and like I said these are minor issues that don’t extremely effect my viewing experience

Anti-customer nonsense. I’m so annoyed. First off, the name change is dumb. I subscribed to HBO because of the power of the HBO brand. It’s synonymous with good, quality television. Rebranding to get rid of HBO makes it seem like you want to get rid of me as a customer. As far as the app goes, there’s no reason you couldn’t just have renamed the existing app. Instead, making us all jump through a million hoops to download an entirely new app, for literally NO benefit to us as customers, is ridiculous and anti-consumer. Finally, basic functionality is (still) missing, even from this new app. Every video app on every platform for literally decades now has had the same basic convention: you press the spacebar to pause or resume a video. This app doesn’t do that. As far as I can tell, there are no keyboard shortcuts to interact with the app at all. Given many, many people use their iPads attached to a Smart Keyboard (or any bluetooth keyboard), this is a baffling oversight that would be SO easy to fix if the company cared about making their app easy to use. (Is this a small thing? Of course, as much as I want to be able to tap the spacebar once to pause it instead of having to tap the screen twice. But it’s indicative of the complete lack of care being put into this.) I don’t know why I should keep paying money for a service that seems to have no interest in putting its customers first.

Added nothing of value and harder to use. I’ll be canceling my subscription. I am not interested in their new discovery content. If I wanted that content I would have subscribed to it in the past. I was hoping that there would be lots of new movies to watch in the new Max app but instead it’s almost entirely the same old selection I had with HBO MAX. If it was just the lack luster new selection I wouldn’t have been so disappointed but the app itself is harder to use than the former HBO MAX app. Before I could quickly select recently added and leaving soon and would be brought to a the entire selection of new or leaving content. Now they are buried in a new & notable section that only shows a fraction of the content it used too. I feel like they added lots of content I was not interested in that I scroll past in order to give the illusion that there is lots of content when it is just junk to skip past.

Had to update my review. Edited for third request: I’ve read other reviews that say captions start every time a new episode or movie starts. We turn it off and next time we watch something it comes back on. We’ve gone thru the apple steps. Gone thru the Max recommends…..No change. Even Siri can’t turn it off! It’s a know. Issue now. Let’s get that fixed. I’ll start with just two requests: 1 - a show / movie / episode is no longer “NEW” once it has been viewed so you can remove the tag. There’s not a new episode of Barry every day once we’ve watched it! 2 - let’s add original air date. You’ve got the year so it’s a good start. The first episode of Chuck aired September 24, 2007 and it’s ok if you share that. We shouldn’t need IMDb because you know what they say, when you have to go somewhere else you might not ever come back!

Performance. Look, I love Max and the wide variety of content. For the first time in a long time I have felt like I finally found a streaming service that actually has really good movies and TV shows. There is just one thing that ruins it all for my family and I. The performance is the worst. Max has the worst lag despite what device i’m on, my family’s internet tower is on the opposite wall from my TV, and every time I try to look up a solution, it’s blamed on wifi. We have the best possible wifi we could pay for in our county. I feel that an ethernet cable is not a good solution to this issue because I live in a multi TV home. It bothers me that other original streaming services run so much more smoother than Max because the potential is right there to be on their level. I do hope platform developers consider improving the performance of Max.

The sound is horrible and low quality on new TV app😫. I feel like I’ve already mentioned this since the new Apple TV app was released.. I have the HD Apple TV and the sound on the former HBO TV app was among the best sound of all the streaming apps but ever since they changed their name and crossed over to the new app the sound has been pretty low and awful.. No high and low separation, it never seems to be in surround, even on brand new releases and I have to turn the volume up to 70 just to understand the dialogue and then sometimes a sound effect will come on and wake the neighbors but mostly it’s just flat sounding. Older movies on the max app can be even worse sounding. There’s definitely been a downgrade in the sound quality even though they claim to have all these great surround codecs. I have a Sonos surround system that used to sound great with the former HBO TV app and I could easily understand the dialogue even when on level 25 instead of 70.🤨

Recent Bugs are Annoying. UPDATED REVIEW: Within an hour, the bugs had been resolved. Either they were already working on the issue or saw my review(or a lot similar reviews with the same issue) and now app is working perfectly. Thank you! Not happy at all with th recent update…when resuming an episode it won’t pickup where you left off, no….it will start over. Every time. So now I have to make note of how far along in an episode I am if I have to stop an episode and exit out of the app. Also, episode progress bar(to show how many episodes you’ve watched) is not showing. These two features are vital for a streaming app and are not working at all. This goes for the app AND Max through Roku tv.

Stop the skips and trips. It has a good variety of shows and not too expensive. The only problem though is the constant changing in “currently watching”. The most common occurrence I see is the show I’m watching to go back to the beginning/after the intro after pausing for a minimum of 2 minutes (ex. Get a something to drink, press play and you at back at the beginning of the episode). It also skips over half an episode after pressing play. I’m trying to binge several shows so it is quite annoying. However, this platform is the best when it comes to anyone with a DC fix, action shows/movies, or episodes being posted after a few days. Please stop the skips/trips- I would’ve thought that this issue would have been fixed due to having a previous platform.

Offline on vacation. Hello I am currently on a family vacation, during which I decided to download HBO content for offline viewing. To my surprise, the downloaded movies my kids were enjoying suddenly became unavailable today. According to the app, these downloads expire after either 28 days or 48 hours from the first viewing. Our current location is an extremely remote area with minimal cell service, relying on EDGE or 3G when available. It has taken considerable effort to find a spot where I can even write this review. Furthermore, there is no Wi-Fi access here, as we are situated in a mountainous town that is approximately two hours away from reliable cell coverage. Initially, I presumed that the HBO app merely required a revalidation of the download by connecting to the servers. Thus, I tethered my iPad to my phone, but to my disappointment, it started attempting to download the entire movie again. While I understand that contractual agreements with studios can influence content availability, it is worth noting that some of the content in question is owned by HBO/AT&T, indicating that these restrictions were implemented internally for reasons unknown to me. In contrast, competing streaming platforms such as Netflix do not impose similar limitations. I suggest considering a thorough review of the features offered by your competitors, as I am now inclined to choose Netflix over HBO due to these download restrictions. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Worse in both functionality & content. Since the changeover from HboMax to Max, the app does not work as well. In addition to the technical difficulties others have mentioned, the Continue Watching feature appears to be broken, as these shows/episodes never actually show up there. The biggest problem, though, is that the HBO content for which many subscribe is now hidden beneath a deluge of reality TV shows. It’s mainly relegated to the HBO hub, making it difficult to explore the app and find content. This change has completely destroyed the user experience. Max’s biggest advantage and draw - prestige TV - has been mostly replaced by the kind of worthless television that fills basic cable. Honestly, even the option to customize the app’s home screen and pick the genres showing there would make me much, much happier.

Steaming via Mobile. Last update troublesome, then most recent makes it impossible to continue streaming where you left off if you are using from cell phone to cast. -if you cast a movie or show from your phone, then put your phone down/ have to take a break and hit pause/ the app times out, even if it’s been a minute - You can’t just hit app to start where you left off. You have to close app. Then open app again and restarts the movie from beginning and in mobile watching mode. And sound all the way to 100! No “resume” even if you hit resume. -then have to wait movie to load to beginning, turn down volume, switch to Not mobile mode, and then fast forward manually scrolling to if you remember what minute you left off on… I want to relax when using, pause when I need and assume it will pick up where I left off like all other streaming apps.

Audio Bug is driving me CRAZY. Every time I cast from my phone to my TV, the HBO app automatically equips whatever I’m watching with “description English audio” and it plays over top of the audio of the show I’m watching, it’s very distracting… It’s not an accessibility thing I need. When I open the settings on my phone to turn the descriptive audio off, it doesn’t even display it as an option. Every once in a while, it’ll do the same thing, but get stuck in a different language and won’t even allow me to turn the subtitles on to cope with it I can watch the show on my phone just fine, but the problem arises when I project it to my TV. currently I don’t have a remote for my TV… So I can’t just open up Max on my TV and play it there but I imagine that’s gonna be a problem then too… This app is a mess, no idea why y’all would switch to a whole new app with whole new problems, but it’s really really frustrating and I’m thinking I’ll cancel my subscription.

The end of HBO. A dramatic title sure, but HBO is really taking the reigns of its own demise seriously. By removing itself from the unique set of names now it’s making the brand another garbage entry in monotony by eliminating its standout color purple, removing HBO the only recognizable detail that matters about its name because max? Who really wants to sit there and think, “man can’t wait to max and chill with so and so”. No it’s ridiculous to think that this change to be nearly identical to prime video, Facebook, Twitter, discord, Disney plus would mistaking my have people just choose one of the blue dots to watch something now. And yeah of course this is all aesthetic but isn’t that what’s really the important thing here? This brand is digging itself a hole deeper than the eye can see. I pray it goes back to the static HBO intro for something beautiful and unique rather than trying to be one of the Barbie dolls where they’re all made from the same mold. Pathetic app design and despicable lack of creativity all around.

Ads on top of ads….. Not a bad transitions from HBO Max to max. Really the same app with a different name in terms of functionality. My biggest issue was the decision to put pop up ads, asking to stream another show or movie, on top of the content you just decided to play. Even more insulting to your intelligence is when this pop up window is blocking a preview for another show or movie that is playing before the content you selected. It’s an ad on top of their own ad, all from the same company. Why would I change my mind and stream something else after I have already made my choice? Please remove these pop up ads of give an option to turn them off. Also, interface elements do not disappear when content is playing. The 3 dots and the line across the bottom of the screen do not disappear after a few seconds, as they should. Other video apps handle this fine. Sometimes event the time and date stay visible.

The the best reasons to have, or to keep Max!!. I personally love max. I have all of the shows and movies that I ever wanted to watch right here. Personally, if I had to pick one streaming service to use it would be Max. Always great movies and t.v. shows, and they always have a fresh variety of shows and movies too!! I went onto Max, and they had so many of the great movies and t.v. shows that you would find on other streaming plate forms. IF you don’t have Max, then you need to download and get it, because if you don’t, then you are missing out on some of the coolest movies and t.v. shows around!!! I LOVE MAX and will always love it. Good job to the makers of Max, but also the people who run it and keep it working like it should, great job you guys to making the best steaming service around!!!! 😊😊😊

awful. DREADFUL TO NAVIGATE. if i could leave a lower rating, i would. -no ability to interact with ads other than pause (no “report ad”, “not interested”, or “why am i seeing this?”) -if you attempt to skip an ad by exiting and restarting, the video will no longer work until you restart the entire film, return to where you were, and watch at LEAST 2 different ad blocks in the process (one at the beginning, and at least one more when you skip to the spot you were at (this occurred SEVERAL different times, which means it’s programmed to happen)). -suddenly the plan i’m paying for has ads, when i originally purchased a plan with no ads for the same price. i am receiving no additional amenities; and SIGNIFICANTLY worse customer experience & service, so i’m unsure as to why i’m paying the same/(MORE) and receiving significantly less. tldr; “hbo max” is awful. unless you NEED to watch a specific show, i’d recommend absolutely ANY. other option.

Not friendly to those who want to watch the same show over and over again. I don’t know what was wrong with the previous version of this app. In my opinion, it was way more user friendly. One way in particular that the new version bothers me is that it doesn’t save my spot on season episodes that I’ve already seen. I am one who watches the same episodes over and over again. Yes, I’ve seen them before. Yes, I want to watch them again. With the new app, every time I want to pull up something I’ve already seen, it makes me search for it again and does not save my spot in where I was re-watching it. I think it’s because it thinks I’ve already seen it and don’t want to keep it in my list anymore?? Definitely a first world problem, I know. But the old app didn’t do that, and I am very frustrated that they changed it completely to something else that is frankly subpar.

Just doesn’t work. There are dozens of minor issues with downloading and actually watching the content, like with the previous app, but this app seems to have an even worse issue; it’s impossible to watch some movies and certain episodes. For example, I wanted to watch the Flash, but last night it didn’t show up in my downloads. Weird, it should be there. Now, I go to watch it while online, and it’s just a black screen. Closing the app does not fix it, deleting the download (which my phone DID still see, in storage settings) and even restarting my phone did nothing. I literally cannot watch what Max is advertising. The same thing happened to an episode of Rick and Morty. This isn’t a bug report, this is just an example of how much of a mess this app is. Somehow, a downgrade of the bugfest HboMax app was. I’d prefer to watch this content, but I’m pretty much forced to use Netflix because it actually works!

Please fix app UI !!. While HBO Max or newly minted “MAX” is one of my favorite streaming services, this app is horrendous! From the constant crashes, casting hiccups, and interface issues, this app needs serious help. Granted this version of the app is “new”, it seems more like a copy and paste from the old HBO Max app with a slight redesign. This app carries over many of the flaws that the old app had that I assumed would’ve been corrected with the launch of this one. When casting to a device, the option to pause or add subtitles doesn’t work. In addition there is no back or forward tracking option. Hopefully these issues will be corrected fairly soon. I love the content on this app although it makes it almost impossible to watch in its current condition. I hope the developers are able to correct the problems and continue to make improvements for the future. Thank you for your hard work!

It keeps restarting my show. Everytime I stream to my tv from my phone I have the same issue. My phones screen of course turns off when it has not been touched for awhile like any other phone. But when I re-open the app to pause my show for whatever reason, it literally restarts the entire show/movie etc. its as if the app cannot keep up with how far along I got in whatever I am watching so it just restarts the entire show. This is really annoying when I need to just pause to to go to the bathroom or make a snack. You all need to fix this. I seem to not be the only one dealing with this issue. Edit: The new update on the app resolved this issue. Yall get 5 stars for being so prompt with fixing this!

Don’t break what’s not broken. Who sat in the board to approve this change? We’ll never know. Was there something wrong with the old app? Not that I’ve found in 2 years of use. But hey! Who doesn’t want to see a BRIGHT A F BLUE SCREEN in their living room at 9:30 PM while trying to wind down for the night??? Well, not us. Best of all, there’s no dark mode for the TV app 🙄. And how long has HBO been known all over as HBO? Longer than I’ve been alive. But hey now it’s Max! Max what? What Max? Nope just max… But for a real complaint, this UI is a step backwards or at least in the wrong direction. Had I not paid for a year up front, I don’t think I’d bother with this app. And the new suggestions and related content is either nothing related or pushing unpopular shows. The same shows pop up for the popular now and trending but we’ve had to scroll and scroll to find shows we were meaning to start on. Anyways, guess we’ll deal with the ULTRA BLUE and cheap UI for the days ahead.

Terrible App. HBO is responding to the complaints about its app not saving the most recent progress of a watched show or movie by asking the consumer to “reach out” so they can help. That would be great if this were something that was happening on the consumer’s side of things, but this is a bug in the app that needs fixing on the developer’s side. I watch the MAX app on Roku. I’m sorry, but if your app can’t reliably remember the last show I watched, what episode I was on, and where in the episode I left off, why would I even continue paying for your service? The HBO Max app did not have these problems, but your new app doesn’t even add what I’m watching to my continue watching list most times. Weirdly, sometime’s my progress is there and other times the show isn’t even available in my continue watching list. I have updated the app on every device yet the problem remains. How about you guys fix this instead of putting the responsibility onto the consumer?

MAX vs HBO MAX. The previous HBO app was wonderful. I don’t like anything about the new app, aside from it having all HBO content. Which is also a part of my problem with it. To much content. It just doesn’t seem very well organized to have to navigate through SO much content that I have no interest in, before I stumble across something I want to watch. I think the fast forward/rewind in 10 second increments is extremely slow, compared to other apps and including the old HBO, which was great. Not sure if it’s do to all the additional media, but it’s just very slow. I also do NOT like that the progress bar only shows time remaining in a program, as opposed to also including time watched, like it use too. I also get a lot of blank black screen issues if I fast forward. A program will start just fine, but if I fast forward through the opening credits, only the audio will work, as the video just drops completely out to a pitch black screen. That happened on Very Rare Occasions on the old app, maybe once a month or longer. With the new app it’s almost daily. So I constantly have to reboot my Apple TV device. I suppose it could be a compatibility issue with the Apple TV, but the old app didn’t have that problem. Those are just a few issues I have with MAX. I wish I could go back to the old HBO MAX! Disappointing

I miss HBOMax.. This used to be my favorite streaming service but now it’s nearing the bottom of my list. The bugs are endless. If I pause a movie or a show, no matter what it is, it jumps back to a random spot in the show/movie so I have to fast-forward or do a funky trick to prevent that from happening. For a while it also didn’t show the shows I was in the middle of watching in my “continue watching” list. I haven’t noticed that bug in a while, but I also don’t use this app as much as I used to because of all of the bugs. I also don’t like the new UI for shows at all. What was wrong with the grid?? I hate side-scrolling, it’s so inefficient and unnecessary. Please go back to the original UI or something, this is driving me crazy. Y’all have so many good shows and movies but they’re almost unwatchable since of this integration!!
