Oko - Cross streets and Maps Comments & Reviews 2026
OKO. Good morning Oko team my name is Ulises Gomez. I totally love your application. I have not used it in my area just yet because I have not received any orientation and mobility yet but anyway question can I use this app in other countries? Looking forward to your email responses have a great day team sincerely Ulises
This app is awesome. It’s like having an accessible traffic light at nearly every corner now. The app is highly accurate and has increased my confidence crossing busy streets.
This is a tremendous app. It works well when I'm walking in downtown Omaha. This is a great app, when I am walking in downtown Omaha.
Absolutely awesome!. I tried this app out, and it does exactly what was advertised! Thank you very much for developing this application. Very awesome, essaidbefore.
I do not trust this app. Upon first install of the app, you are forced to input your phone number, so someone from the app can call you and get you set up with it. I think something like this should be opt in and there’s no way I’m going to give my phone number to an app that I haven’t even been able to use yet.
I feel so much safer now. This app was recommended to me by my mobility trainer after a really scary intersection, crossing in the middle of a big city with a crosswalk that did not make any sound when it was time to cross. I love having this when I have to cross intersections that are not disability friendly. My only complaint is that different lighting situations are not reliable, and if there are more than a few lanes, the app sometimes just continuously says it’s not safe to Cross? instead of simply telling me that it’s not workin
it used to be good.. It's clearly made by sided people who think they know what blind people are going to find useful. The only reason I'm not giving this a 1 out of 5 is because if you get lucky and can even find the pedestrian signal alert button on screen amidst some sprawling map of all the roads in your entire town, then it might prove useful. But beyond that the app just keeps getting worse with every new bell and whistle added. Hopefully somebody else develops a pedestrian signal alert app that can "keep it simple stupid."
A great app. I signed up for oko last week and using it constantly it helps me to improve my timing of getting to places and wonderful app
An amazing tool to aid and ones independent journey. This app has given me so much more confidence in crossing streets than I have ever had in many years. Much like anything else, this is a tool. But this tool, along with my hearing and paint attention to my surroundings, allows me more functionality in life, when walking up and down major roads/streets.
Oko magic!. The oko app is the absolute thing I need as a blind pedestrian. The traffic signals in my neighborhood have no accessible pedestrian signaling. This app fills in the gap!
Awesome app. I am deafblind and am now able to cross the street with more confidence. Thank you!
So incredibly helpful!. This is an awesome app! I love it! I was able to get it when it was originally free and in development, but I would definitely buy it if needed. I will say having the maps integration is a nice feature, however, it’s not set to walking directions as far as I can tell so I still find using Apple Maps is better. It also take a lot of power and overheats my iPhone quickly. But it’s very accurate! As the app says however, don’t rely on it solely, but it helps let you know, hey, you by signal have the right of way, instead of crossing when it’s red, like I do by accident when I don’t use Oko.
Game changer. This app is amazing. I’ve used it and it’s reliable and takes the guess work out for folks like myself with low vision when crossing streets.
Very accessible. This app is very useful to use when in particular situations when exploring or walking somewhere. The program I am in uses it regularly when walking during our O&M class.
A favorite innovation. In a world where not all traffic signals and crossing options are accessible for those of us who are blind or visually impaired, OK oh offers an intuitive tool for those of us privileged with smart phones to access, crossings, audibly, and hectically without having to locate traffic lights to push buttons, and even where there are none. The app is easy to set up, intuitive to use and surprisingly free. Access isn't just about technology that works for blind people, it's about affordability and easy use. OK has it all.
Love it!. Simple to use and more accurate than I expected.
I love this application fir safely crossing the street. I love this app. I utilize it fir crossing the streets during the day when the light is to bright for me to see the signs, and to stay straight when crossing. The audio cues and color cues allow me to safely cross
Oko App. I used Oko today for the first time, and it was wonderful! The beeps were loud, so there was no trouble hearing them. And I love the little tune that it plays while you're walking across the street. Great app!
Great app!. This is one of the best apps I've ever tried. It has been quite reliable. The fact that everything is onboard the app making it so that it's almost immediately responsive and not requiring an internet connection makes it all the better!
Excellent addition to the travel toolbox. The app gives excellent, audible feedback, so that blind people can know what the traffic signal is doing even when there is no traffic. I have used it with a variety of intersections, and I have found it to be accurate. The only mistake it has made is to not give any feedback, even when it should have. However, after reporting this to the developers, the problem was solved in just a day or two. Nothing is a substitute for good Kane skills, but this app is definitely an asset to have in one’s travel toolbox.
Enjoying the app. I have enjoyed using this app. It will allow me to cross additional streets that I thought I would have trouble crossing. in the places where I have used it, the signals have been spot on to let me know when it is safe to cross. I am looking forward to future enhancements and the vision from the founders for this app.
Game changer for crossing the street!. I’ve been using this app for a few months, and it’s honestly the best assistive app I’ve used. I live in a major city, but not all the crosswalks around me have a button with audio feedback to let me know when to cross. This app has allowed me to take routes I used to avoid because I didn’t feel safe safe crossing at those intersections. Thank you OKO!
Delivers what it promises. In a world where many apps try to be all things to all people, OKOh is delightfully simple. It does what it says it does. It accurately and quickly identifies the state of traffic lights. In my experience, it was able to do this from a great distance, which can often be helpful when you are approaching an intersection. I am very picky when it comes to my apps, and I am usually very quickly disappointed by the trendy and new. In this case, though, I was delighted by my first experience with OKO and it has now become a permanent fixture in my travel toolbox. Great work!
Great Application.. I think the OKO app is a great application, however, I have also noticed that there is no ability for hands-free use of the app, this could pose a problem when walking on the street when you need to push an audible crosswalk button to be able to cross the road.
Amazing!. I’m visually impaired, and not all crosswalks have the Audible APS signal. This app makes crossing the street safer for me. Thank you for designing this!
Fast and accurate. I like that this app does one thing and does it very well. It opens up fast and gives almost immediate feed back as to the status of the traffic signal. It helps me confirm that my sense of the walk signal status is correct.
A very helpful app for traffic control in the roads for the blind.. I have tested the OkO App and it works well. It is truly helpful mostly in busy traffic streets and highways.
First oko experience.. I was quite impressed by the instant access to the pedestrian signal. I had a demo at csun. As I turned my body, the audible alert stoped and started on demand.
Very useful app for the blind. This app is very useful. It is a wonderful tool to have a supply initially impaired person as it makes it easier to navigate our environment using amazing technology
A quick note of thanks. I was at my states NFB of Connecticut convention this past weekend and got to try out this app at the vendor fair. I got the opposite to ask questions and use the app. It was a great experience. Than k you so much for taking the time with me to answer my questions. It was a great experience and I will definitely be using the app when I am out in mu community .
OKO is restoring my autonomy. The app is truly a game changer, as it feels like having an accessible traffic light at every corner. Its high accuracy in providing real-time information has significantly boosted my confidence when crossing streets. It’s transforming the way I approach my daily commute.
this is awesome. I like this app I used it on my OM trip and it’s very accessible. I like it. It tells me when to walk and when not to walk. I like the sounds too satisfying.
$50???. The app works great. However, it is UNACCEPTABLE to charge $50 when it was free last week. Charging that much for an app who’s user base has a %70 unemployment rate is unconscionable. Please fix this now!
Review March 10,2024. This is amazing app!!! It helps me as newly low vision person, still be able to do what I do!
Great app and quite useful. i’ve been using this app for quite some time and even had a mobility instructor approach me in the field to kind of see it in action that was quite fun
Amazing, very helpful. I was introduced to this app by my orientation and mobility specialist, and since then have found it extremely useful. I like that it has not only auditory but also haptic feedback, which is very helpful in loud intersections. The other main thing I like about it is that it signals, along with the surge of parallel traffic, and not the second that the APS system changes. Very useful tool!
Can’t live without it. Easy to use and great value to my quality of life. The world is an oyster again!!
Street crossing. Hi, my name is Ineko Gary, I am Deaf/Blind. And I use this app today around 20 5 PM to cross the street and to catch my route bus seven. I want to say that it does a good job with the vibration. I use vibration mode when I’m using this app. I live in Tampa Florida. sending all my love Ineko Gary
This app is so advanced. I find this app very amazing. I’m never going to delete it ever under any circumstances. however, I find it hard to sign in or create an account because I have never created an account before for this app. I’m unsure how and that is the only issue. I feel that all blind people should download this app because of the accessibility and it’s the most useful thing I have ever come across aside from another app that I use.
Fantastic application for blind and low vision users. I wanted something like this for a long time. Since I can’t see the crossing signals, I would typically use my Magnifier app to locate and magnify the signal so I can see it and then when it’s safe to cross now, this app picks up the signal well before I reach the curb and let me know what the current state of the crossing signal is when a single changes to walk, I am immediately notified and can proceed across the street as long as the camera can focus on the signal the application quickly communicates changes in the crossing signal. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER FOR TGE SAFETY OF BLIND AND LOW VISION USERE EVERY WHERE!!!!!!! Thank you for defending this app.
The Best Ever. You will regret not putting this amazing app on your devices. Way better than any competitor, try it for yourself
A must have tool. This app is absolutely wonderful and so far, 100% accurate every time I have used it. It is a must have tool in the toolbox of anybody who is blind or low vision. Combined with good cane and mobility skills, this app completes the package.
Rating. Hi this is good however it'd be better too if it had language saying do not cross or cross now. Guess u have to know what beeps mean.
Does not work at all!. This app is still under development and does not work in the states of California or Arizona and Nevada you will not be able to get directions to and from anywhere as the app literally says maps is unavailable in every city that I’ve traveled through this app needs a major overhaul to make it as great and ambitious as the fake reviewers claim they get I can honestly say from trying to use this app it’s a complete waste of your space on your personal devices instead use your preferred navigation app this app will not work for you as much as you see the pictures of the app they are completely A.I Generated pictures.
Clever.. Thank you for creating this clever app. It will give me more confidence as I cross the street when I bring my granddaughter back from preschool.
Love this app. Glad I found this app, it has helped me a lot. This is much better than having to depend on a state to enforce accessible pedestrian signals for street crossings.
Fantastic app. I enjoy walking outdoors every afternoon. That's what OKO is useful for me. It works well during the day. I may soon try hanging it out to see how it works at night. Thank you so much for your contributions to our visually impaired and blind community.
Game changer. I have just recently over the past two weeks started using OKO, and I can honestly say this is a game changing app. it’s almost like having an audible pedestrian signal right in your hand. Plus, it is super simple to use. combined this app with the mobility skills that I already have, and my independence to get around has just grown exponentially.
$50? Really?. I just downloaded your app for free a few months ago. It’s a shame that you’re doing this to people who for the most part cannot afford it! This is too valuable a resource! I am an instructor at a rehab facility and wanted to recommend this app but most of my clients cannot afford it at this time. Please fix this!
Super useful and reliable!. This app is new to me and has already found itself super helpful in so many ways. Ideal for traveling in areas where traffic flows have changed or in unfamiliar crossings, this allows a greater sense of confidence when navigating crossings!

Useless. I was trying this out to see if I would recommend to my blind brother and the answer is no. Firstly in Australia our pedestrian crossings have beeping noises already to tell the blind when it’s safe to cross or not so that features useless. Tried using the map directions and it didn’t get me where I wanted to go and was no better than google maps. It should all be voice activated but it’s not.

Awesome. Love the Oko app it works really great for my needs especially at traffic lights. It’s awesome that it’s now here in Canada. Love it. Keep up the awesome work.
Cannot sign into Apple on your application. One button is unlabelled in the search results/map part.. To whom it may concern, I'm having a significant issue with your application. After signing out of Apple to verify my password, I'm unable to sign back in. When I double tap the "Continue with Apple" button, nothing happens, and the only functional button is "Not Now." I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, rebooting my phone, and submitting feedback, but the issue persists. Additionally, I found an unlabelled button when searching for places, which caused confusion. Please address these issues and consider labelling buttons for better accessibility.
Hard to use in daylight. The app is really difficult to use outdoors in daylight conditions. Because of the daylight reflection on my iPhone screen, I am not able to read anything on the screen. This means I have to set my destination before I leave the house for the building, or before I leave any place where I am able to read the screen, select my destination, press, go and listen for the audio cues about where to turn and so on. I have not found a way to initiate vocal input to the Oko app. It would be really nice to be able to say things like “change destination “, or “where am I?“ It is difficult to navigate the Oko app itself, even in the best of conditions. I have not found a obvious way to go to the home screen, for example. The concept of Oko is really great, and I wish the development team had more resources to make significant improvements to the app. It seems one must have fairly good useful vision to successfully use the Oko app.
Manque de précision. Le problème du compte à rebours qui ne s'arrête pas quand le feu passe au rouge est plutôt dangereux. Il a pourtant été mentionné lors de la phase de test ...
This app will not work. There’s something wrong with this app. It will not work on iOS 16.7.8., And when I look in the compatibility section of this app on the App Store, it says it’ll work with this iPhone.

Amazing and life affirming. Impressive. It works very well. Recommend to anyone with a visual impairment.
OKO review it is a great. OK hults to know when the lights have changed it is a great app
No longer works as a simple accessible pedestrian signal. UPDATE: This is sadly no longer a usable app for me, now that navigation features have been added that prevent me from using it as a pedestrian crosswalk signal. Now when the app opens it is in a map view prompting you to enter a destination. It WILL NOT FUNCTION AS A PEDESTRIAN SIGNAL until you activate that feature. If you are a low vision user, it’s not prominent or obvious. If you are a VoiceOver user, good luck trying to get there while at a noisy intersection. I can’t open the app in advance because it drains battery really fast. I previously had given this app a 5 star review. The developers had solicited the review, but it was an honest one. I’ll leave it below for reference of how great the app used to be, and I’m still giving it 2 stars in the hopes that it might become usable again someday. PREVIOUS REVIEW: More reliable and easy to use than an APS. I’ve been so impressed with this app! It’s so easy to use even when the environment is too loud to hear VoiceOver speech — I can just say “Hey Siri, open OKO” and it immediately jumps into action with haptics and sounds giving me my own accessible pedestrian signal. I love the haptics because I can still get the crosswalk signal information while simultaneously focusing on the traffic sounds. It also saves me time because (1) I can get the visible pedestrian signal status as I’m approaching the intersection and (2) if I want to cross kitty corner and don’t have the walk signal in front of me I can quickly turn my phone to check if I already have the walk signal to cross in the other direction. It has given me a lot more confidence and independence navigating my city after vision loss and makes crossing the street much more analogous to how I could when I was fully-sighted.
Is there an Android version of this navigation software? How do I download it?. Is there an Android version of this navigation software? How do I download it?
Blind rehab. Love the app works great
Amazing app!!. Very accurate app to help cross streets. Good safety factors.
Oko is a great app and is good for the Blind community. Oko is great
Great app. It’s a great app that helps me cross the street in Cleveland. Thanks for developing oko.
Too Dangerous To Use. It said to walk when there were still cars coming. Too dangerous to use.
Amazing app. Amazing application! So helpful!
Rating. Hi this is good however it'd be better too if it had language saying do not cross or cross now. Guess u have to know what beeps mean.
Awesome app!. Works very well at reading the pedestrian signal. This app is going to save somebody’s life absolutely.
This should be on every iPhone. OKO gave me the freedom of exploring my own city. Thank you!!
Would Absolutely Recommend. As a person with Albinism with 20/200 vision, I love this app. Moving into a city downtown area is intimidating in itself, but this app really helps.
The update made it unusable. The update made it completely unusable for those of us who are blind, and hearing impaired. Now it doesn’t automatically open to the cross street function. It opens to a map when you can’t hear on the go and use a braille display you can’t get it to where you can open the cross street function. It’s completely unusable now. I shouldn’t have to pair my braille display. Take it with me and do 30 functions every time. I’m at a street corner trying to cross the street. There are 80 apps out there that do point by point directions. I don’t need another one. Oko Was good because it was simple and it did one thing no other app did. now that is ruined. ETA: from your response, I can’t tell if you are a bot or if you just don’t understand anything about Deafblind folks and how we use tech. First of all, although I, personally can voice, many DB people can’t. So a Siri shortcut isn’t going to work for many. It can also be hard even if you can voice in very noisy situations. Second, the button on the first screen than comes up when you open the app is in (or next to) the search field. It still takes a few steps to get there, instead of just opening the app and having it work. If you are DB and can’t hear voiceover and use braille display, or even if you are blind and at a loud intersection and can’t hear voiceover, this makes it difficult to impossible at every intersection to have to do this. No one wants to stand there and struggle at every intersection for 5 minutes screwing around with an app that used to just work upon opening and pointing. Third, I know how maps with turn by turn directions work. They’ve been around for decades. There’s the seeing eye app, find nearby, blind square and even just google among others. This feature does not enhance your product. You don’t need directions for every route you walk. You do get an advantage from getting intersection help. You are trying too hard. You took an innovative product that was elegant in its simplicity and ruined it. You can fix it by making an option, at least, to get the ped signal function immediately upon opening. Until then, the app is still unusable for many people and more difficult for everyone. Until it’s fixed, I would still give it 0 stars and that award you just won should really be revoked if you are going to screw the DB out of the app among many others. Yes, I am mad. You response was a condescending “sighted-splain.” Do better.
