Canvas Lite for Homeowners App Description & Overview

What is canvas lite for homeowners app? Canvas Lite for Homeowners is the only 3D scanning app designed for homeowners working remotely with home improvement professionals. Simply scan a room, upload your scan, and a complete set of 3D measurements will be sent to your professional, in the format they use every day. You will need a code from your professional to ensure your scan is sent to them.

If you are a professional looking to use Canvas and have a LiDAR-enabled iPad or iPhone, we strongly recommend using our other app for professionals, Canvas: LiDAR 3D Measurements. If you don't have a LiDAR-enabled iPad or iPhone, you may also use this app to test out the experience, but LiDAR will make scanning 5x more accurate.

Canvas Lite for Homeowners requires an iPhone 8 or above and delivers the best scan quality and accuracy with the LiDAR-enabled iPhone Pro/Pro Max (12 and newer).

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Useless. I havent even used it and the app is asking for $3.00 to process my first scan. At least let users see what to spect from the app before they decide to buy. too much greed.

Boycott shady companies on principle for a better life.. It’s bad enough that In order to trail a paid app, you have to enter into a contract first, then set a reminder to cancel the day before the end of the trial, and heaven forbid you want to benchmark a few apps because you’d like just one decent one and not the other 200 mediocre ones from the App Store littering your phone. Seems to me if your app is great, you’d be delighted for me to consider it because you’d know I’d be back saying “where do I sign up?” I mean these people are programmers right? They could easily just set it up so I get a free trial for seven days and I’ll have to send anything and it just no time is out. But when a company goes so far as to not even to bother to mention that you actually have to pay money inside the app, and you go to the whole freaking process of their app and then you have to pay money and then you have to join to even to get any tangible item to even evaluate... then that’s a shady company that knows it’s tricking you and doesn’t care. Figures you’re so used to being treated like that, you’ll just do what they ask so as to not have lost 20 minutes of you life. I don’t do business with companies like that even if I have to take a second place product from a more respectful business. I think people are sick of this. I think our lives are valuable and our time is valuable and we are nickel and dime every corner in inconvenienced at every single turn. And companies that don’t get that don’t get to do business with me and I would hope they don’t get to do business with you either.

Amazing app but lacks some features. Lots of possibilities for this one but functionality currently is very basic, however as is - it works extremely well! * Please add a suggestion input field on your website or in the app. I’m sure more will come from others. Important features needed 1) the ability to save a scan and resume at a later point in time (or from different device) 2) different resolution options 3) multiple scan prospectives 4) external storage support (physical or iCloud/ftp/etc

iphone Model. You really need to update this app. why is it only for Iphone 8 and newer.....

Scam. Paid 3 bucks just for my room scan just to view the file, I just wanted to save the “free” scan as an obj.

Doesn’t work in rooms without decor. Won’t work in a room that’s 10’x14’ that’s without any decorations or furnishings. It loses its place, forces you to restart. Perhaps no big deal if you’re redecorating, but if you’re planning for a new space, it’s unusable.

Had it on my xs Max. Just got the 12 pro and it won’t enable lidar. App worked great on my cousins phone but he never had it installed on a previous model

Great resource. As a design professional, it helps to have a process that enables us to capture a space quickly to study design solutions. The turnaround time is fantastic.

Would be better if you could DL the wireframe.. Generally a good scanning experience compared to competitors. Find it very frustrating that it shows me a CAD view but will not let me download it.

Amazing!. I love the ease of use and accuracy. But can you do this for a while house or building?

Unusable results, unbearable interface. Like many of those who jumped into that LiDAR fad, I’ve had luxury to devote my time to investigating the available 3D scanners on my my new iPhone. Ultimately, this app went to my folder named “crap” very fast. I’m not going to mention any solutions to avoid marketing, but there are applications that allow you to use non-LiDAR equipped devices to capture what this app is doing but with many more other options unavailable here. For example, you capture the world around you from one spot and you can’t really teleport within the space (technically you can but there will be too many artifacts making the output unusable). In other solutions, you can capture the space from different spots to then teleport more freely. In short, this app doesn’t seem to be employing 3D scanning affordances well, if at all.

Great scan but useless now.. USE SCANIVERSE INSTEAD USE FORGE INSTEAD No one is going to pay $3 per scan. Sorry. Users are going to laugh when you’re forced to close up shop or sell off your proprietary technology. I’m sure you guys are only interested in profit anyways as it’s clear the free usage is a pointless burden that possibly was used for analytics. I get it, it’s cloud processed. It’s not by any measure worth it qualitatively, and especially in quantities. It’s LIDAR on the phone. Give us a free built-in processing option. Or don’t — you’ve handicapped the life out of your app so far.

Me with and iPhone 7+. Me see ad on Instagram “Wow this looks cool let me go check it out” *Downloaded* *Open app* App:“Sorry for the inconvenience” I don't remember eggzakly what it said

Not as good as hoped. I’m an architect and I scanned our conference room using the app and my iPhone 12pro. I then paid $30some dollars to have the room converted to autocad and sketchup. The resulting 3-D model was not accurate. None of the dimensions matched. Some were off by a few inches, others were off by 3 feet. It’s a fun tool to get footage of a room for later review. As such, I can see a use for it. But you still need to amanually survey the space.

Nice app, but no way to export. The app is reasonably nice; not as clean as Matterport, but still easy enough to use. The biggest drawback is that the app is a dead end for your captures. You can pay for CAD translation (and, I would hope, cleanup) but there is no option to export your captured point cloud or surface map to a file, nor is there any option to export a stitched equirectangular/360 image. As an enthusiast it’s probably fine for the “cool” factor, but as a professional there needs to be a direct export to local file for saving/archiving.

Poor output. Bad results

Crashes when you try to scan. New iPad Pro 2020 The app crashes EVERY time you try to scan?

Would be better if we could walk around. Would be better if we could walk around as we can on Polycam

Capturing my room for a renovation. We are redoing our kitchen: - Removing a wall - Adding a kitchen island - Reconfiguring the counters/layout This app was super fast to scan the area, take some measurements (looking at cabinet boxes at Home Depot) and order a CAD so we could play around with it. Love this app!

Great, but. my main issue is that it auto-completes despite not being done with my scan. Therefore, my final scan is ruined by these incomplete spots.

Good but Could Be Better. This app works really well. Scans can be a little grainy and lacking sometimes in detail. I would give it a 5 rating if you could combine scans to get a more detailed scan of a room. I suppose I’m also just used to total station Lidar scans that you can have combined scans that also merge data points to give a more detailed scan. Overall, a great app for a phone. It’s crazy how far we’ve come that we can now do this on a cellphone.

Impressive!. Wow! I had a difficult room with many angles to design for a remodel and Canvas came through. While their turn around time was about 5 days for Chief Architect in the past, it now was 48 hours and that was over the weekend!! And, quick response to questions. Love this app.

Lack of Support. Looks very good and pleased with an initial scan. However, the app now appears to be stuck in a loop trying to "upload" the scan despite our having already been uploaded and converted with the proprietary system. Trying to now do a CAD export but can't because of the hang up. There is no means within the app that I can find to get help with this, which is frustrating. I also had issues with the initial account setup. Seems like the tech is pretty good, but there is a distinct lack of support from the dev.

Lidar scans still have a ways to go. I scanned my living room. It looked ok. I did the more detailed walkthrough scan of the combined living room and dining room. I probably spent a half hour scanning the space, then another 15-20 minutes waiting for it to upload and process. It was worse than the first. It was downright horrible. The images for ceiling were splattered across the wall. The images for wall were spread across the floor. It was all mixed up. I think it wasn’t user error, I watched the tutorial…

Scans are now “jumbled” in iOS 15 and iPhone 13 Pro. I had an iPhone XS Max (No LiDAR sensor) and I was able to scan an entire room with great result. I got an iPhone 13 Pro that HAVE LiDAR sensor and when I do a scan, the picture came out jumbled. I tried this with different rooms and different scans and same result. So looks like the app is not updated to either work with iOS 15 OR iPhone 13 Pro LiDAR sensor. Otherwise, how can a 3 years old iPhone with no LiDAR sensor works but not a brand new iPhone 13 Pro WITH LiDAR sensor?

A game-changer!. I love this app! And customer support is phenomenal! I can scan a room and get a scan to CAD drawing in just a few days. I use it for my interior design business. Give it a try!

Game Changer. I am loving this app. I just did a challenging whole house layout with it and you guys nailed it. I use it to put my drawings into a CAD program(SketchUp Pro) and it works like a dream. Does it way cheaper(and better) than if I measured and drew it myself.

Absolute garbage. Literally any room scanning app can do what this one does. Most of the time better. The usage of LiDAR is a gimmick. You only get more resolution in a scan using it which allows for subjectively more accuracy. That doesn’t mean anything when room scanning other than a boost in processing speed. That boost is ignored by this company forcing users to upload their scans for processing. Don’t buy into this greedy company. There are plenty of alternatives that offer the exact same functionality. Most don’t even need the LiDAR Scanner but simply benefit from having it. They also don’t require you to upload a customers private information to this company’s servers to “process”. The amount of information that can be harvested from scans like these is sickening. GPS data, network information, any photos or family pictures hanging on the wall, a full blueprint of a space along with the location of all the valuables. You are forced to upload all of it and give it over to be stored and processed remotely for anything usable. I’m guessing the steel sack it takes to then charge folks $0.15/ sq ft for these scans is so that the information can be adequately safeguarded and encrypted but I highly doubt that the case. Even if the info is properly handled, what stops this company from just selling that info to advertisers for a nice amount? Don’t be fooled by a gimmick.

Error: Scan is being processed?!!! Days???. Can do the scans on my phone but can’t view elsewhere because after days and days it still says “check back later”. This app is useless to me

Absolutely worthless on iPhone 12 Pro Max. Never could get the app to scan. First, at least in this model iPhone, it forces you into rotating your phone into landscape orientation when you try to do a scan which greatly reduces its angle of view (the tutorial and media all show holding the phone in portrait, i.e normal, orientation). Second, I tried large/med/small rooms with excellent lighting. Both empty and full of furniture. At no point did the app get past the spinning dots around the “hold still” initialization portion of the 360 scan module. For S&Gs, I even mounted my phone to a tripod..can’t get more still than that! No dice. I find it asinine that they didn’t properly QC this app for one of the most popular (read: prolific) iPhone models out there.

I’d like to export the cad scans to a open standard. I’d like to export the scans to an open standard.I’d like to generate floor layout but also use them in my home automation

Changed pricing and now is way too expensive.. Recently they changed how they price their scans to CAD and sketch up from $29 per room to $ .15 a square foot. I did my scans per usual for a clients large home. I was expecting it to be around $700 with the 23 rooms but then it ended up holding $1300 out of my account! This is almost double what it was before. Not worth it. I love the capabilities of this app and it saves me so much time, but not for double what I was previously paying. I will be looking for an alternative that is priced more fairly.

Support option?. Update 12/5/20: I received an email in response to this review with a support email address and website. I’m leaving my review as a 4 star because that information is not available in the app and the website does not show support on the menu; it shows FAQ even though the knowledge base is there. When the information is made visibly available in both places, I will change my rating. I’m new to lidar and am very impressed by the app. I don’t see any help/support info in the app. I did a scan and had a failure to upload. The scan had the cloud icon but url always said trouble loading. I could not re-upload that I could see. I tried going to Dropbox. That also went nowhere. I had to delete the scan and will retry. Would really like to see some support info. Even a forum or something?

Very promising app but lacking. The app is really cool and great for detailed views of a room. Sometimes the scanning ends early before you’re complete. It would be great if you can take an existing scan and update it. So you can fill in the details and bits missed instead of having to start a whole new scan.

Only scans one room. This app has the ability to only scan one room and not the whole home as presented on the website. Also only one point can be taken, so the other side of the couch that isn’t in the view wouldn’t be included. Otherwise the concept is awesome and the scanning is much faster than any other application.

Scans great but huge charge >$20 to save to a usable cad drawing. Kinda neat example of the LiDAR hardware, but it’s aimed at lazy professionals who don’t want to take the time to draw their inherited projects out. It cost a min of $20, per room, to export a usable cad file. Scan is free, but file is not - very Gillette razor approach to their business model lol. So it’s great tech wise but falls on its face audience wise. Very niche and more tease then anything. No way that I can see to edit scan to add parts of room you missed (didn’t distinguish white walls from corners). Very much a toy app at this point.

Great Organization. The folks at Canvas were more amazing of a resource than I would have thought possible. Knowledge, integrity and respect were my main takeaways of our interactions and that's considering the fact that I was trying to utilize their app in a somewhat experimental manner. After our numerous conversations over email and video I was left requesting that they keep my contacts on file should the needs I have ever align with their business plans. I'm left satisfied with their product, help & goals and look forward to the next opportunity we have to work together. Such a great product and team.

Junky seems. Looks like our room was assembled in a nightmare after using the app. Look at the graphic before you buy it.

Why it they discontinued the iPhone 7?. I got this app a while ago I wanted to use it again but when I opened it it needs an iPhone 8 or above why did they drop support for the iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 is basically the same thing as the iPhone 7.

Brilliant. This app is amazingly brilliant. Thank you!!

Best LiDAR app I could find. Not only is the app a perfect way to demo LiDAR on the iPhone 12 Pro, but once scanned in, the ability to walk a room in AR feels like the future. Can’t wait to see the auto CAD work done. Huge congrats on making this so slick and so easy to use with a nice, simple interface.

Unbelievably cool!. Scanned my room in about a minute. Result is amazing.

Good app, deserves better rating.. I’m not sure why the app has a low rating. It’s possible that it has changed since those reviews. The app does exactly what it claims to do. As of this review date, I have not been charged anything and have successfully scanned my bedroom. The app is not perfect, but no app is. I’ve only used the 360 degree scan (not cad) and the results were good. Definitely worth trying the scan itself, not sure about the cad render yet.

Its not good quality. Its curvey and unacceptable

Game Changer!!. This app makes scanning spaces so easy. The additional features like taking measurements and adding notes are great!

AMAZING!. This works great! Their customer service is top notch! Highly recommended.

FIX IT I WILL NOT GIVE YOU FIVE STARS UNTIL YOU FIX IT. the App Store says that it supported the iPhone 6s but when I open the app it says that it doesn’t support the iPhone 6s

Where was this app before??. This app is a game changer. I’m in the middle of a garage remodel and it’s been a huge pain trying to get everything just right. I’m trying to show my contractor what I have in mind, and this app made it super simple to do that. Definitely using this when it’s time to remodel other parts of the house!

Privacy nightmare. By using this app you are allowing the the company that owns this app the intellectual property rights to anything you upload. They are allowed to distribute or sell the content you upload without your consent.

Best app one can have in this digital age. The intricate details it can generate in fraction of minutes is just amazing. What technology can do is just proven in this app. Grateful to all the people who created it👏🏾

Don't waste your time. They let you waste your time doing a whole room scan, and then hold the output hostage until you pay. Disingenuous and deceptive. Don't waste your time with this junk.

They don’t write you have to spend money upfront.. I hate companies that hide the fact that you have to pay money. You scan the room then they say you have to pay to keep your data.

Broken on iPhone 13. The app worked great with iPhone 12 and IOS15 but is broken on iPhone 13. You can scan a room but the output is jumbled and fragmented.

Overpriced just to a model. The quality is great but why charge people for a cleaned up professional scan? There’s people who know how to use mesh room or whatever application you prefer to clean your scans. I don’t need some other professional to do it, and other free or small subscription based apps that can give you the same result with practice exist, and you can output to .obj for free.

Amazing. This app just works, I was shocked how accurate the scan was. So simple too just like creating a panoramic photo on the iPhone

Perfect for our new home!. This is a great app! It scanned our rooms in minutes and was super easy to use! Wish we had found the app sooner it would’ve saved us a ton of time. Highly recommend.

Keeps saying tracking lost. I have the iPhone XS THIS WAS A WASTE OF MY TIME😡

Good idea - bad execution. Common, scans are really bad, other soft makes way better scans Stitching are terrible. Dimensions are not accurate! I’m using latest iPad Scan to CAD not available unlike video shows!

Great App but I have a suggestion. Hi! This app is amazing! But I was wondering if we can have capability of scanning an object and having a 3D version of it to see if it will look good in the room.
