Good but be careful of misidentification. I am a professional in insect and invert care and keeping. I’ve owned many tarantulas, spiders, roaches, scorpions and many others. I’m always seeing new spiders in the wild I didn’t know of but lots of insects can be easily misidentified, especially by an app that goes on one picture alone. I got curious and decided to test it with my own inverts. My curly hair was misidentified as a rose hair by no fault of the app. It’s common to mistake the two due to their markings being so similar. I also tested it on my Mexican Redknee, a more identifiable species. While the app did get it right, I noticed a picture that was not a Mexican redknee on the insect page. This app is mostly accurate but still be aware that it’s AI May misidentify a big as harmless but could actually contain powerful venom! Be safe and use the app wisely!

Why I would NOT recommend this app. Okay okay, I really love bugs and animals and I wanted an app that would help identify them so I got this one because the other one was not free (it is called insect identification) and it worked very well, but I could only use it one time (because it lets you used it one time before if makes you buy it) so I went back on the App Store and got this one so I could identify bugs for free. I was looking forward to it, so I tested it by going through my camera roll and choosing a flea, it did it’s thing and when it loaded it said it was a— Lesser Stripedtail scorpion??!!!! ( look up what they are if you don’t know, they are called Lesser Stripedtail scorpion and a flea) So then I tested different bugs and — it was all wrong. The only one it got right was the crane fly (Mosquito hawk). So that is why I thing you should NOT get this app, and thanks for reading till the end I really needed to talk/rant about this app.

Good but not all the way there yet. Being someone who grows a lot of food and is a student of environmental science I was excited for this app. Pros: -Easy and aesthetic interface had me identifying insects in no time. -The first choice they gave me was right 100% of my pictures submitted. They even give a few extra choices just in case. -Complete scientific name and familiar classification. Cons: -Doesn’t really tell you much “regular” information. A lot of my pictures were pest species and no info was given on how to deal with them. Sure I can google it but isn’t that what paying is for? -Some of the explanations seemed like they came from someone who’s not entirely mastered English. Which isn’t a negative cause they haven’t mastered English. I can infer and figure out what they’re saying. But it’s a scientific app. Kinda something you wanna be exact in your descriptions. Overall this app is cool on the surface and helped me ID a lot of different insects. But it lacks real substance with regards to dealing with pests or giving any detailed info on species. I understand it’s difficult given the sheer amount of insects out there. I might keep this till the seven day mark but unsure. Thanks for listening to me blab.

Very helpful. As someone with SEVERE arachnophobia, this app basically helps me determine which spiders are venomous, and living in the south there are more than enough to go around. This app has been super helpful at helping identify different kinds of spiders, and even helped alert us to several brown recluse in our house. The ONLY thing I would suggest is maybe having a toggle option that would allow you to read the info about the identification, without seeing the pictures. I obviously understand why there are pictures, but it definitely makes my experience that much more anxiety inducing.

Treacherous advertising. The vendor offers this application through the Apple Store stating that it is free during an one-week trial period when you can cancel the subscription. I did not like the application and spent several hours trying to find a way to cancel the subscription before I get charged ~$30. My account at Apple or iTunes finds the subscription as “free for one week”, but does no offer any option to cancel. Instead, it offers many options to subscribe! Even if I accept the minimum one-week period, I am not sure whether that subscription will remain for one week and will not be extended automatically: it is described as “weekly”. To me, this process appears to be intentionally conceived to deceive. I apologize and withdraw this bad review if there is a clear way to cancel the subscription without any automatic renewal and billing.

Rip off. I got this app thinking it was the same company as PictureThis but no, it's not. Even though it has the SAME HOMESCREEN and similar names. It tried to get me to do a subscription in order to continue. #1 red flag is similar name to popular app but different company. Also, I tried testing the app and took pictures of less common insect that I knew what they were ex: hornet, moth, and waterbeetle. Two of three were wrong, me personally I wouldn't trust those odds. To developer/editorial group: Please let us use it for longer, if your going to copy PictureThis, at least use add-ons but let us use it more then 2 days. Go big or go home, am I right? Yeah, I know I am. Other then that app had nice format, keep that up, copycat.

Needs to improve. Please make your app more specific for each insect. It doesn’t do much good to have generic information for every insect. I want to recommend this app to my customers and people I teach. Right now it’s disappointing, it’s too generic. Every insect identification has the same information, I understand you have to CYA but people who are using the app want to know what they’re looking at and what it’s going to do in the garden. I use PictureThis and recommend picture of this all the time to my customers and people I teach. I want to be able to do the same with the insect app, but it’s got to have more specific information. Thanks.

Quick ID. Has identified several bugs I found around in my yard (Nashville, TN). It’ll ID very tiny aphids, paper wasps, bug nymphs, big brown recluse spiders. I rather use the built it camera app in my iPhone 13 to take a pic, bc the user interface (of the camera app) is friendlier. The in-app camera controls are not as user friendly - I have issues with the zooming controls placement and the screen-tap to focus control is removed. Other than the camera controls the app gives you a good amount of info. I like it.

Must Have. If you are an insect lover or if you have critters that have decided to make themselves at home in your house and/or yard, and are curious as to what they are, this app will certainly let you know. Not only does this app identify the critter within seconds, but it also gives you a complete breakdown of the insect and inform you if it’s harmless or not. I find myself on outdoor adventures quite a bit and constantly find “new” critters that I am curious about. If it wasn’t for this app, I would never know what they are. This app has come in handy way more than expected and quickly became one of my favorite apps; definitely in the top 3.

Can’t get much better. As far as making an app to identify a bug just by taking a picture of it.. does it get anymore convenient? I HATE spiders but I just moved to an area that’s by a forest and see these big spiders marching around the house. Pretty much just wanting to see what is or isn’t poisonous and the fact this app can pretty much identify most insect even by uploading a pic is...5 stars worthy. It gives a lot of info but there are specific answers I want to know and it would be nice if it provided a little bit more info about the insects, if they can harm your animals or family/friends, and/or how common they are, what attracts them, how to handle them, etc. That would make it more interesting and provide more than sufficient information that I think most people would be curious to know. I’m using the free trial and may try the full version to see if it provides more features. Brilliant!

“Not sure”. Can you put back the option “not sure” or “I don’t know” for when it asks if you identified the correct insect. I’m using the app to identify the insect. Usually I feel like I know what it is so when something comes up and it wasn’t the insect I was thinking of then I clearly can’t answer “yes” or “no” bc I don’t know. I dunno, if you don’t want to do that then at least make it so you opt not to answer without having to close the app completely out. 9 times out of 10 when I get this question it’s when I’m trying to take a picture of the next insect and I don’t want to say it is or isn’t the correct insect if I’m not sure bc then I’m giving possibly false feedback. However you are forcing us to answer one or the other bc we can’t X out of the question without answering. By the time I close the app out to get rid of the question, the insect I wanted to photo is long gone. Its frustrating. Otherwise the app is excellent. I use it several times a day in the Spring and Summer.

Its amazing! ❤️. This app has been a game changer, it literally has never been wrong before! When I found a random weird bug I thought was a big mosquito it turned out to be a certain type of wasp and it was identical! It also saved me from a case of bed bugs, one day in a cabin I get seeing beetles but then I saw a strange bug so I scanned it and it was a beetle. Of course you may have to take a few pictures before you get a accurate one, but otherwise its amazing

Must have for bug and spider lovers!. I discovered this app a year ago, and have used pretty frequently! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been bitten, stung, or just wanted to know what bug is crawling on my window! What I can say, however, is that picture insect has been there every single time. I have loved everything about insects and arachnids since I was little, when I discovered this app it was a must have. Even without buying the subscription, this app deserves every single one of those 5 stars!

Helped my identify fruit flies. I had a bunch of small flying bugs in the kitchen & bathrooms and didn't know what they were. I thought fruit flies but I've searched the house high and low and haven't found any rotten fruit or anything so I have no idea where they're spawning from. Seems like from thin air because when I kill one two or three more appear. I thought maybe I was wrong about what it was so I downloaded this app and was able to scan one after killing one. The app did identify it as a fruit fly but most importantly it gave some helpful information on what the cause is and several options for treating them other than the fruit fly traps I've been using. This app is great.

Too cool. This is by far one of the coolest apps I’ve ever downloaded. My husband and I like to travel and we’re always seeing cool and new spiders and insects we’ve never seen before. We’re usually pretty fascinated by them and time permitting can spend hours pouring over Google search results to find a match. We were on a retreat in Virginia when we found a spider we couldn’t quite find a match to on Google and I downloaded this app. It found it immediately and I’ve used it multiple times since then! The yearly rate is very affordable and I feel that I’ll be using this app regularly!

Does not work well. I chose this app because I have its “sister” app for identifying plants and couldn’t be more impressed with that one! This bug one, on the other hand, is basically useless. I’ve tried identifying many types of bugs, many attempts each, and each attempt it gives me a different result and almost every time that result is incorrect and usually not even close. On top of that, the data they have on each bug they identify is extremely minimalistic and basically useless. Again, their plant app excels greatly in this area with tons of accurate and useful information so I expected better from the same creator. 2 stars because it does identify some insects and that’s kind of cool, but really doesn’t do anything “well”…

Good identification but not informed. This app is good at identifying insects, but it does not tell you about the benefits of these insects to the ecosystem. For example I found a goal wasp on my oak. It doesn’t tell you whether this is a harmful past or beneficial to the ecosystem. All it says is that it’s parasitic to plants which could sound bad to a lot of people. From another source on the Internet I found this: Oak gall wasps are part of the biodiversity that a healthy oak tree supports. They little or no impact on the tree's health and growth is minimal, therefore to attempt to control them is undesirable. The app would be better if it included information about whether the insect was an important part of the ecosystem versus whether it is invasive or dangerous.

Excellent App!!. We live in a somewhat wooded area and I use this app weekly and sometimes daily. Not only does it provide the necessary information to keep our family safe, but it’s also been a wonderful tool to teach my girls about nature. Instead of screaming and running away from some of the crazy bugs we see, they now go to the app and want to see what it is. I’m so grateful that it’s taken some of their fear away. I recommend this app all the time!!

Needs Work. An ok app. Like many ID apps, it will often try to identify to a level not possible from the photo, resulting in misinformation. For example, if I post a photo that is only identifiable to family level, it will always attempt a species ID anyway. As far as accuracy goes, it is hit or miss. I was pleasantly surprised with the accuracy of some ID’s such as a least skipper photo I posted, but it also gets other obvious and distinctive insects such as the Coral hairstreak wrong (I study butterflies so that is largely what I tested). For many insects this probably isn’t a big deal, but it would be best to leave ID’s at a higher taxon level like family or genus if it is just going to make inaccurate species ID’s. It would also be good to have a comment system of sorts since correcting the ID is confusing if the photo isn’t identifiable to species and the app put the insect in the wrong family or order. Information about the insects themselves is usually fine but some entries are about the wrong organism (Ex: Mormon fritillary description talks about Tortoiseshell butterflies which are in a different genus). I can’t see a reason to use it over other ID apps unless accuracy improves.

Very accurate!. I’ve used this app for a little over a year now and identified whatever happens to spark my curiosity. The results are usually very close to an actual species, and it’s 99% guaranteed for an accurate genus classification from the 3 options it gives you. I have an older iPhone, so my camera is not all that great and I take a lot of fuzzy-ish photos of small spiders, but the accuracy is still very spot on for what the image can convey! It’s amazing how this app can pick up small details like tiny dots or spines that are barely visible from an image. The brief overview of the insect is also very insightful, although most times general about toxins or venoms (lower risk, higher risk, aggressive vs. passive, etc.). I like how it gives you a map of where the insect is commonly found and for what time of year, as well as photos from other members or sourced from online to further identify your specimen. My only criticism is the pop up every time I open the app asking me to upgrade to premium, but other than that, there are no ads whatsoever and the free version works great for me. Overall, fantastic app for the free experience! I’m no scientist so I’m not sure I would recommend this for academic studies (even though I bet it’d be a good head start to identifying a genus/family if you’re not sure), but it sure is a helpful tool for anyone curious about a bug! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Digger Wasp Identification. OK so this is the first time I have used this app and I found that at first it did not identify the picture of the insect that I was trying to identify; this maybe because my picture was too blurry ; so be careful that your picture is a little bit more precise. Once I made my picture a little clearer and I went through a selection because it gave me an option of what the insect variety’could be ‘ to clarify my choice. I was able to identify the culprit of a nasty sting to my right toe yesterday. I look forward to using this app. As I live in a place where there are lots of their interesting and six beneficial And occasionally annoying.

Awesome!. I found a bug that looked like a spider I’d never seen before making a home on the trampoline net. I didn’t want to disturb it, but wanted to make sure it wasn’t poisonous. I searched the internet with a description of the bug but couldn’t get results with a picture that matched. Then I found this app. I took a picture, submitted it, and in seconds the app accurately provided a picture and information about the bug. Turns out it’s an assassin bug. After a google search of the name I found that the bug isn’t as dangerous as the name sounds; well, at least to humans.

Great Insect Identifier. This is a great app for bug identifying. I am always in my backyard & come across all types of insects. Most of the time I would not know what I would be looking at until I found this app. Now if I see something I do not immediately recognize, I just take a pic & almost 98% of the time (I would estimate) I get the type of insect I am looking at. It’s not 100% because I would venture to say ‘user error’. Some times pics just aren’t as clear as one would like. Bugs aren’t the most cooperative when photographing. They move, jump, fly away…etc. It will provide info on what insect you input telling you what you need to know about it. Overall it is a very good app to have.

Great app with accurate identification!. Not only does this app accurately identify clear pictures of large bugs with good lighting and plain backgrounds, but it also accurately identifies teeny tiny little bugs that my camera couldn’t possibly focus on, and it even managed to identify a spider that blended in with the background! I love this and use it all the time, mostly because it’s so fun to identify all the random bugs I see 😂 I love this app and highly recommend it for all your bug identifying needs 👍

7 day free trial. So sure I’ll try before you buy. So the app is great. Took the picture and received an instant answer. Wow! Now back to the free trial. Says if you don’t like it, don’t pay for it. When I agreed to the free trial I was charged. Most apps what the 7 days before charging you for the year. Just thought you would like to know. I double checked it was a hold and then a payment. Again the app looks real nice but when you offer a free trial it should be an actual “ Free Trial”. I would have given 5 stars but because of the not an actual 7 day free trial I gave it “4 stars”.

It actually works!!!!! Highly recommend!. I’ve never written a review before but I had to for this one. My mother saw a mystery bug on her bathroom countertops at 3am. She texted me a picture of it and asked me what it was. I of course had no idea because I’m not a big expert. Then she told me to Google it and we had a whole argument about that. Then I said screw it and tried to see if there was a bug identifier app. I downloaded this one. I uploaded the picture and assumed it wouldn’t work because the bug was almost completely camouflaged by the grain in the countertop but whatever, it was 3am and my mom wouldn’t let me sleep. So I started the app thinking it would fail and in an instant it told me exactly what bug it was! It even showed me other similar images of it to make sure it got it right! Perfect! Bang on! Genius AI app!!! Shocked that it actually identified this camouflaged bug! Highly recommend!!

Like Microsoft Help, Provides much information, little of it useful. I purchased this product to help identify bugs in the garden. When it identifies the bug correctly (which is about 80% of the time) the information given is of little use. It rarely says whether the bug is “Beneficial” or a “Pest”. Mainly gives general information. I usually have to go to a different source to find this out. The App’s camera feature is not good. It is usually out of focus and always out of focus when image is zoomed in. If I use the Camera on the phone it is sometimes better but in the time it takes to go to Camera, many times the bug is gone. I will not be renewing my subscription

Super interesting. This is a super cool app with just one picture you can know what kind of bug is in or out side of your house. I use this app all the time. Just today I found a spider in my bathroom and found out that is was a black widow! Which I had never seen before, but thanks to the app I was about to tell what it was. But the only thing that I will say is I do not have unlimited identifications and it asks all the time for me to purchase it. But other than that I love the app!

Almost Perfect. I think it’s great for finding somewhat rare bugs. We have fun identifying everything we find and it’s good that it saves it because now I know I have Chagas’ disease from a bug it identified! To be perfect, we need to see photos of every bug it identifies, every stage of that bug, and the truth if it’s parasitic, not just that a worm can always turn on you. Many say they aren’t harmful when they can be. If they can hurt even one person they should be classified as potentially harmful. Better to be safe than sorry. I love reading the history, too. It even identifies most bites correctly!

Good IDs, bad species information. As an entomologist, I take my hat off to this app for surprisingly accurate & reliable identification. However, the hysteria & fear-driven (or pesticide-driven?) misinformation it spreads it pretty damned reprehensible. For instance, while it acknowledges that Harvestmen (one of two species known as “daddy long legs”) are not toxic to humans, it doesn’t acknowledge that they are literally incapable of biting humans, and goes on to say that they are, in regards to pets, a “bite animal”. As though these beneficial aphid-eating non-spider arachnids were a potential threat to your dog. Unless your “pet” is a white fly, your pets are 100% safe from these guys. And this is just one of numerous examples where the app is very out of touch with reality & potentially even destructive to the environment & horticulture as it spreads ignorance on one hand & informs in terms of basic identification with the other, making it seem more credible than it is. Because of this, I will never subscribe to premium, even though I find the app useful. Take the IDs, but always do your own research - preferably on sites that aren’t “pest management” companies with an agenda to sell their overzealous “services” a la Dale Gribble. 🙄

Loving it so far!. I have had this app for a few months now and as an aspiring entomologist, I've gotta say I have very few complaints! Most of the time it works properly and gives me accurate identifications while also providing options and opening the possibility of it being wrong. after i've been using the app for some time (and learned more about spiders 😃) I've noticed one or two out of hundreds of IDs have been incorrect. That being said, I love that it doesn't just spit out a species name and that it gives you full descriptions and comparison photos so that you can verify the accuracy of the identification yourself. my only complaints are that the pop-ups are annoying and that the built in camera isn't fantastic, so i normally default to using my device's camera and then importing a photo. Overall, great app that I plan to continue using throughout my studies! 4/5 😀

Some great pros but a secret price tag. This is a very quick, simple to use app with basic information. It is great for a fast identification of an odd creepy crawly, or in my case to have on hand since moving to a semi-tropical island where everything is venomous, poisonous, or straight up trying to scare you to death. (Huntsman spider, I am side eyeing you) This would also be a great resource for a bug crazed kiddo, and keep them entertained for hours. That said, this is one of those “free” apps that REALLY wants you to sign up for their 20$ a year subscription. Personally I just pushed the X in the corner and I could still use the app, but maybe the paid for version has more info, better features or other bug stuff. For me, I just need the ‘Is this going to kill me?’ Question answered quickly, and this does the trick.

Great service this is. I live in an old building, beautiful as it is I have found that myself and my husband and kitty are not alone in this wooden wonder. I am not a smart phone fanatic but my husband included to his a plant and tree identifier for our walks and a light went off in my little bean brain if only one to identify the tiny little less than friends I keep finding in my casa …. And then I found you! vERY helpful for me-and now my hubby doesn’t think I have a screw loose anymore. Thank you so much and don’t change a thing please it works perfect as is. Sincerely Amy

Awesome!. Really fast and accurate identification of insects, truly amazing to me. I just moved to Arkansas, where I’ve come across many different species of insects that are unfamiliar to me. Because of this app, it’s become a hobby of mine to keep a collection of all the different spiders I come across. Whenever I see one I haven’t seen before, I get excited and pull up the app! Would highly recommend, for people who love bugs, or to anybody trying to figure out what crawled up into their house. 🙂

THANK YOU SO MUCH. When I was younger, I was playing with my friends in a field behind our houses, and at the edge of this field was a forest. It was late at night, and it was really dark. Then one of us noticed a huge moth on a leaf. One of my friends, who had brought along a camera, took a picture of the moth. It was pretty blurry, but you could tell it was a moth. We all had no idea what kind of moth it was, and I just recently found the picture again. I decided to find out what kind of moth it was, so I downloaded this app to see if it would work. I thought it might not recognize the moth, since it was so blurry. But to my surprise, the first result was the exact moth in the picture! Thank you so much, I definitely recommend this app!

Sometimes right…. I understand that it’s an app, and it’s not going to be 100% right, and sometimes it’s right. Other times it’s not even close, and I feel like that can be incredibly dangerous for a user. I wanted to be really thoughtful with my review. One thing that really bothers me with the app is the misuse of basic terminology. Example: monarch butterflies. You have them listed as venomous— indicating that they have venom gland and are able to bite and inject venom. Monarchs are considered toxic/poisonous if ingested. Monarchs are not venomous, they are poisonous. They lack the mouth parts capable of biting, and lack venom to be considered venomous. The words cannot be used interchangeably, and do not mean the same thing. I appreciate the correct IDs on many bugs, and I appreciate that you offer the use of the app for free— but I also hope some updates are made.

Amazing app! Have used for years!!. This is overall an amazing app! I’ve used it for about 2 years now on and off to categorize my entomological endeavors! Im 19 and all off my friends poke fun at me for loving insects but this app makes me happy! The information is not very in-depth but it is not hard to just look up the insect after it’s identified! Not that the info is incorrect or out-of-date it’s just there are millions of species of insects and it would take years to input all of the data about each! Though, there is a feature that allows you (the user) to add there own findings and information when you identify the specific species like location, age, sex, etc. which I think with time will get much better! Highly recommend!

Great app. I am not an insect lover lol. I am rather terrified of insects. I am from the city and moved to the country. I have encountered insects I have never seen before. To me, every insect is deathly poisonous lol. This app has helped ease some of my anxieties. I have been able to identify insects that I thought were harmful and some species that actually protect me from some of the more harmful insects and spiders. The app provides a good amount of information. For what it could not provide, it is nothing to go do more research using other sources. I have identified over 30 types of moths that I thought were butterflies and other kinds of insects. Trying to describe some of the insects is difficult but being able to take a picture, though not 100%, is very helpful and usually more accurate than not.

Very good with subscription, could use more info. We went ahead and immediately paid the $20 a year subscription for the app. My son is really into bugs, and having some thing that immediately tells you what a bug is while you are out at the park or in the backyard was invaluable. Plus he has a blog where we like to write about the bugs we see every day. So as far is the actual identification part, this app is very quick and very accurate. It has easily identified every picture we have taken. If I had a criticism, it would be that it doesn’t give you clear useful information about the bug once the bug is identified. It would be nice to have a symbol that shows up immediately indicating whether the bug is dangerous, venomous, etc. Having the scientific name and diet is nice, but not the most useful information when you’re outside.

Amazing. As a bug lover, I live near some dangerous bugs and when I take a pic of them I know whether they are harmless or not and other facts about them like there name and science name, o recommends this to all my friends and it’s such a great app with very accurate results I also love the creators other apps but there is one thing I would recommend, mabye you could add if the bug is endangered or not or how long they’ve been around for and also if they could be a good pet, Tysm and I’m so grateful for your apps!!!

Incredible!!!!!!!!!. I love this this app! I love studying bugs and this app makes it even better! If you like bugs, you’ll love this app! And you still get a wonderful experience even if you don’t pay for it! Just love it! Use it everyday! It’s really nice to know what kind of bugs are around you, what bugs may look dangerous, but are actually completely harmless, and bugs that look like they couldn’t do anything to you if they tried, are actually really dangerous! Love it! 100,000,000/5 stars!

Amazing Insect Identifier. This app sparked a new passion for me, every time I go outside with my friends and family I’ll soon be running off through the woods like a madman chasing a bug, and it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve experienced. The joy of hunting down a new bug every time I see one, which is often considering they’re everywhere, and having a free, easy, and accurate method of Identifying them is incomparable. I love this app and I can’t recommend it enough to everyone I know!

Couldn’t have asked for a better app!. I never realized anyone had made such a great app before, but when I saw this in the App Store I was like, “no way!”. So I tried it out and have used it every week since getting it because often times I’ll find a bug and I’ll wonder what it is, or a spider and will want to know if it’s harmful to me or my pets. It even has a bug bite identifier!!! How cool is that!? The developers also have some other apps that come in handy too like plant identifying tools and even animal identifiers. I can’t wait for them to release more great stuff for sure.

This is harder to rate than I thought…. … what I mean is, I try reserving 5 stars for apps that are close to flawless in providing the service I bought it for.. this came very close, I like the concept, the app is user friendly however it lacks a glossy of bugs I tried to identify. Without knowing just how tough if not impossible it is to acquire everything! You may want to rate it with less! However, the fact that this app knows this, explaining this and other great facts inside, helps you realize this app just hasn’t been finished! It’s constantly asking for new material or correct what you believe it is.. (if you don’t know, don’t add it. There is this place called a library which hold so much information, I’m sure if your a true hobbyists, you’ll find your answer there, then add it!) So basically this app needs our help to fill this apps glossy up! If this app is globally placed, we may even find a new species of arachnid or insect if we’re lucky! So that is why I want to give it a 5 but maybe as we add more constant, it’ll change.

Completely inaccurate. I tried this on a spider 1/2 inch in diameter. It gave me everything from a wood tick (I know what those look like) to several varieties of moth, to a brown rat. Not kidding. A brown rat. I also had to get within a foot of the spider to take a decent photo; zoom wouldn’t work well enough from any further away, even 2 feet, on my iPhone that tends to have excellent zoom capabilities. I tried reporting the inaccurate reading (seriously. Not a rat of any color. Wrong phylum entirely), but that wasn’t an option. I tried putting “spider,” but it wanted me to pick which one. Feeling that to be somewhat defeative of the purpose of downloading the app to begin with… I gave up. Less than 10 attempts on the same creature, and I’ve blown through my free tries. No reason to think the paid version is any better. No thank you.

Very great app even without subscription!. Although without buying a subscription, you get many popups, you can easily press “continue with limited version”. I’m considering buying a subscription because I use this app so often as a gardener! For example, today I was able to identify some green lacewing larvae that were helping my garden rid of aphids. I’ve successfully identified many insects on this app and it even helped me realize that the butterflies I was finding weren’t painted ladies, but a different species. I really love using this and learning more and more about bugs. I’ve been able to identify so many spiders including crab spiders, orb weavers and a species of harvestmen I didn’t even know existed! This app also has all ladybug identifications and has helped me identify many different species. I cannot recommend this app enough. For those saying this app doesn’t give enough information about species- you can always look them up and learn more as well as how to deal with pests. (It’s what I do!) I use this app to get my identifications and then do further research. I also love how you can look back on all your identifications and pictures you have. It really feels like you have your own little collection made by you.

Great app, works quickly. Came across a large spider. Usually with a few keywords I can get close on Google, but I just couldn’t identify it. I opened this app, uploaded my photo, and it identified the spider correctly within a few seconds. It also made some other similar suggestions if I disagreed, so that was cool. Anything you scan gets put in your collection, so it’s a fun way to keep track of what you find. I like that you can see photos that other people have submitted too, but I wish there was some way to rate them or something so the best pic is shown. Some are far better than others, but it’s a good starting point.

Used twice and it worked well. I have only used the app twice but it worked well both times. I even verified the results with a local extension service website. My only issue is with the information given in the “Learn More” section. In giving the hierarchy of the Burrowing Peanut Bug that was identified it listed this under phylum: ”Arthropoda - Arthropods, Crustaceans, Indris, sifakas, and woolly lemurs.” The last three are not Arthropods but Chordates. A typo? Or maybe this was added to see if anyone was actually reading the information?! Update to review: I was contacted by the developer and given a better way to correct typos etc. I’m very glad they care enough to look at their reviews! Thanks for a good app and the feedback.

Such a quality app. I was heading into bed and noticed a small bug crawling on my sheets (technically my shorts that were on my sheets). HORRIFIED I picked up my shorts, took them into the bathroom and snapped a picture of the alien-looking bug. Then after freaking out a bunch and debating sleeping in a different room, I had the idea to check if I could submit my picture anywhere to identify the bug. That’s how I came upon this app. Now my picture was sorta blurry, but to my surprise it scanned my picture and pulled up a bug that looked EXACTLY what I saw in my bed. (A Fire-Brat if y’all wanna look it up) Now, not only did I know the identity of the bug, but loads of interesting things about it; like the fact that it isn’t harmful and doesn’t bite, what may have caused it to be there, and how I can prevent it. I wasn’t expecting much since it’s the free version but WOW. Can’t go to sleep until I leave a review like this app is a game changer. Definitely recommend it for anyone who is either creeped out by bugs, interested in them, or lives with a bunch. You won’t regret it!

Wildly Inconsistent. I was initially excited about this app. I have a large plumeria collection, so want to identify friends and foes, since there are many destructive critters out there. But, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I found that pictures of the same insect were identified as different creatures. In one photo, it is named a citrus white fly, the next picture, taken seconds later, it’s called a carpet beetle. This was not an isolated event, but happened multiple times. So, sadly, this app cannot be relied on for any kind of accurate identification. Hope those who’ve previously reviewed how safe they feel, because they think they can correctly ID venomous spiders and insects realize that this is no more than a random “intelligent” guess.

Lol. I first tried this app out to see if it’s liggit but I scanned my croc (shoe) and it said it was isabbela tiger moth LoL funny and best app ever😸😹

Good but not great. I’ve used the app a couple times and I have not once gotten the right result right off the bat. What would be awesome is if you could set your region or country to give results to match; as I’m getting results that look almost identical to what Im trying to identify but they are from the wrong side of the world. There’s very limited informations if not none about the bugs I am finding which has kind of sucked the excitement out of using the app or any need for it at all because I’m having to still go and find it myself online. It only really helps me identify the order/family of the bug.

Amazing app. Without this app I’ll be lost .. it helps me identifying any type of insects ..

Can’t cancel free trial. I downloaded this App to try it out, and in the process of downloading it, it said I could cancel at any time in the settings. I couldn’t find where to cancel anywhere within the App, but upon review of the joining email I received, the process was very clear and simple. As for the App’s function, I used it to identify a spider, and it was spot on. Came up with lots of information. If I was going to use it regularly, I would have keep the subscription but for a one off, a bit to expensive. May be better off with a one off by fee?

Won’t let you cancel. I followed your instructions to cancel before trial ends and you can’t cancel this. It took me to AppStore and subscription and your app does not even appear to cancel

Awesome app. I really love this app. I am so curious, and when I see a spider or insect, I NEED to find out what species it is. This app has solved my problems!!!

Effective app with no clear cancellation policy when no longer needed or used. The app is effective but has no clear cancellation policy when it’s no longer needed or used

Butterflies. App is just brilliant. Easy access at any time & instant information.

5years olds dream app. Awesome app, just make sure you get correct focus, and do it twice. My 5 year old ran away with my phone!

Won’t let you cancel !!!. Tried this for 1 day of the 7 day trial but decided not to use it. Have tried to cancel and followed instructions but isn’t working. Have seen other people have this issue as well!!! Not happy!!!

Only 7 days then have to pay. Had no idea this was only free trial and then paid subscription. Would not have download it if I had realised Downloaded app and then it said. It says to cancel subscription in iTunes if don’t want it but it’s not in iTunes subscription section so could not do this - therefore deleted App. Don’t know if this is sufficient. Still no idea if it’ll try to charge me. Not happy.

Fantastic app. I’ve found this app very helpful in my gardening job and also in my fly fishing

Can’t unsubscribe. Please update this, I just downloaded so my kids could find the name of an insect and now I seem to be locked into a subscription.. there’s no free trial like what was advertised

Blind leading the blind. I pay so you can tell me what it is and then you say you don’t know ask someone else well gone ! And you actually wanted me to pay for premium membership what does that include a game of guess who!!

Picture insect. Great info but unfortunately this app is not relevant enough for Australia as mostly applicable to America .

Arben-Benny Tairi. App found the insect for free We didn’t agree to the free trial we won’t pay for the app we won’t risk agreeing to the free trial in case we forget to cancel within free trial period 7 days

ZERO STARs. This is the most inaccurate app I’ve ever used I didn’t want to sign up for the year but your intelligent way of scamming users interested in trialling this app seems to be working. I would like a refund for this app. I am extremely disappointed every so often when I actually do use this app, after taking 5 images the app still cannot accurately and consistently identify or determine the species.

Tracy. I would like to cancel this subscription it was put on by mistake please refund, I have gone through the steps but want to make sure it is cancelled, after seeing other reviewer comments.

How do I know if you've try to sign me up to a subscription without my knowledge????. Where do I find the subscription list to see if you joined me without my knowledge.... I didn't even use it as it said to tap my side button twice if I wanted to go ahead and I didn't tap it and tried to flick the app out of my way and so I want to check to make sure you haven't tricked me into something I don't want as I don't use it and there's no money in my account anyway ... but just wanted to make sure that you didn't try to sign me up without my knowledge as I'm too old to understand how you work things... If all is ok, then thank you for your time & would appreciate s reply..,

Can’t cancel trial. I tried canceling it so many times but it doesn’t work So I don’t really like the app

Very useful and improving by the day. This software is improving by the day and it can recognise a lot of insects. Insects are inherently harder to identify then plants, but it does a good job if you don’t have too much clutter in the background of the photo. I’m sure this will also improve as they develop this app further. It’s an extremely useful tool to figure out what insect you are dealing with exactly, with just your phone. So it’s very handy.

Not very accurate but it’s ok. This app looks pretty professional but a few answers were not very accurate for example, I took a photo of my African twig mantis (I’m 100% sure it’s a mantis.) but it gave me some sort of beetle.

Misleading Information!!!. Downloaded app but did not continue with 7 day trial. Information about the subscription process was not clear in the description and the reviews have been more helpful in understanding the process. I do not want this subscription and better not get charged when I have not proceeded with the trial.

Subscription deducted immediately. Downloaded to try and immediately got an email receipt for the subscription. I DO NOT want to be subscribed to this app

The ‘Bug’ encyclopaedia. I downloaded this app as I was working seasonally on a farm, and it allowed me to check whether something I’d come across was safe or dangerous. And, with just a snap, I knew almost immediately too. I cannot wait to see the development of this app.

Agtrend. I enjoy the App but I would like to be able to indicate where I have seen insects that the distribution map does not indicate their occurrence.

Fantastic tool. We own a Pest Management business and this app is a great assist to our trainees and less experienced technicians. Even the guys with more experience are finding this helpful. If you get a clear image of the insect you wish to identify we have found the app very accurate. Happy to rate it 5 stars

This is a SCAM developer. The “free trial” charges for the app immediately and the platform repeatedly tries to charge you multiple subscription fees. Even after reporting the unauthorised billing to Apple, cancelling the “free trial”, and getting a refund... the platform just invoiced me for the subscription again. I’m now up to my 3rd refund request to Apple.

Definitely NOT!. I normally like this app but when I accidentally took a picture of my child, it turned out to be a Common Fruit Fly. I would be happy to delete this immediately!

Disappointing. Out of my first two photos, one could be right. The other said a beetle was a type of spider.........

App not opening. Great app but it isn’t opening on my phone, just saying the title and loads into a no internet screen when I am connected with wifi and data.

Unexpected fee. I also had no idea I would be charged $32 after one week of free trial, wouldn’t have downloaded if I knew that. I just need to know if that payment is weekly or monthly which will decide if I delete the app today or in a couple weeks.

Can’t cancel. Have tried to cancel app as per instructions without success, can you please advise as to why, do not wish to continue with after the 7 day trial.

Misleading. This is not a free App. I did not learn that it required a subscription (with a one week free trial) until I downloaded it. Why is this not clearly stated up front?

Accurate half the time. This App is a bit of fun but it’s very hit and miss with accuracy. It definitely identifies spiders better than worms.

Cancel app please.. Hi, I used this app to identify a bug and it worked perfectly but I would like to cancel the app/subscription please I no longer need it. Thank you.

Can’t cancel yearly subscription. I purchased this app but have since realised that it doesn’t have the features I require. I can’t find anywhere in the settings to cancel my subscription however before I purchased the app it said this would be a option. Disappointed.

Terrible app. I purchased the annual subscription hoping that this app will help to identify bugs in my garden. But I’m really disappointed by the inaccuracy of this app. I took six pictures from this bug in my garden and the app identified a different bug every time. I did not find any contact info to contact the developers but here I ask them to refund the subscription money. The app is rubbish.

Very useful. Have used this app to identify quite a few insects so far. Works very well and is trouble free.

Brilliant. This has been so much fun and educational. Really good for the whole family, kids love going out and finding new insects to scan for our collection. It’s a massive data base and very well put together

I want to cancel!. I downloaded this thinking it was ‘free’ but now I find it will cost me if I don’t cancel after the free trial. There is nowhere in the app to cancel it and I haven’t added my email to it so how can I cancel? Is deleting the app enough?

DON’T DOWNLOAD APP IS NOT FREE. Don’t download this app, you can’t cancel the subscription and then they start billing you for a yearly subscription. Then you have the joy of trying to find the right apple department to resolve. Seriously DON’T!!!

Choices. Great choice of app when it comes to knowing what insects are lurking around :)

Cannot cancel. The app itself is great and would be a lot of fun for someone passionate about insects, however after having used it twice during my trail I wished to cancel. The instructions given on how to do this do not work and I am unable to get in touch with anyone for more assistance.

Spot on. Very accurate

Can’t cancel. I downloaded to search for a specific insect which we were unable to locate on your app. The app looks great if we were planning to continually use it, however, using it only once and within the 7 day free trial, we’d like to cancel please. It clearly says in settings how to cancel, although, following these directions doesn’t allow it to occur. Please contact.

Picture insect. For the first time I actually know what a bug is 🤣🤣🤣

Unable to cancel. I downloaded the app to find an insect for a student (which I was unable to find), and at no point initially was there a mention of a fee until it was downloaded. I do not want a free trial or to subscribe for a year. Please cancel.

Very fun and useful. I was at camping with my family and found a little spider, I tested it and it ACTUALLY worked! Amazing app, 10/10 %100.

Quick and easy to use. Couldn’t find the pest I was looking for on google. Found it on this app within 30 seconds. The picture identifier was accurate too. 10/10

So far, right on point. I’ve only tried to identify two insects, so far, and I’m pretty sure that they were both identified to my satisfaction

Best app. The best most helpful app ever

No regional location. It gave me an identification in Europe when I’m in Canada. I didn’t see a way to change it.

Yup. Lost of answers are right but some are actually wrong it’s very difficult to get a good quality photo so maybe tweak the camera other than that is a rly good app definitely recommend it

Pretty good. It’s a good app but I wish it would let you zoom in your self. I've tried and it has not let me zoom in.

Very helpful app!!. I love this app! We live in the country now and have lots of different moths, spiders and other insects and this app has identified all of the ones I’ve managed to get a photo of. We really enjoy learning about the many insects in our area.

Approved. This app is helpful, useful, user friendly and a fabulous idea. I Have used it many times and recommend it to all those wanting to identify creatures in the wild!

Not accurate. In theory this is a great app, but using it has been disappointing. So far, the insects that it’s identified are totally wrong identifying them as one that is native to a totally different continent & climate. You’d think when identifying, it would identify based on a users location as well since the environment is so important to knowing which insect it could be.

Unnecessary. I tried it and it was okay, but realized after that Iphones can already do the same thing without any extra apps. All you need to do is take a picture of the bug with your normal camera app, go to the picture and hit the send options button, scroll to the bottom and touch “scan with google lens” and it will have the same/better results, cheers 🍻

Gotta catch them all!!. I love this My Pokédex is getting bigger

Love this app!. I love investigating to see if insects are native or introduced, pest or friends. Highly recommend this app.

Great app. Good app to discover what insects are

Awesome. Very nice app

Unknown fee. Doesn’t say anything about cost until you install then feee for 7 days then you will be charged. Won’t allow me to uninstall right away. Don’t get it unless you want to be charged

Good. It is a good appp

Application vraiment bien faite!. À chaque fois elle reconnaît les insectes

awesome app. Tells me everything about the insect that I take a picture of

Wants payment info before you can do ANYTHING. There doesn’t seem to be any way to try this app without giving them your credit card/payment info and agreeing to pay $40 for the year after the “free” trial ends. Since I’m not willing to pay FOURTY DOLLARS a year for an insect ID app when there are countless other available, why would I even bother testing this?

Great for the kids. Picture insect has been great for identifying various insects around the house and on nature walks.

I was trying to find the species of my beetle and it was perfect!!!. 😄

H. Love this app

Very cool. But it would also be cool if the app told me if the bugs bite. Can i pick up this beetle and put it outside with my bare hands? Thats what i want to know.

Good but needs improvement. If it had the option to identify eggs and nests I’d rate it 5 stars

Awesome!. Love this app so much just take a picture of an insect or spider and it tells you all about it!

❤️. I love this app

Great little app. Super handy app to have in your back pocket!!

Ok for bug ID but not sure if creators know it's not 1920. It is ok so far for insect ID but the "harmful to human" section of the Hairy Rove beetle contains the following statement regarding them being found in some meat in kitchens: Containing irritant substances, it has certain risks and is troublesome for housewives. ??

Ok. It works but it sometimes gives you the wrong insect or only a scientific name for the insect. It also gives you a scientific classification on the insect.

Says it’s free but it’s not. Sa

AWESOME !. Absolutely love this app !! I take pictures of bugs now out of pure curiosity and have learned so much just from using this app. Super quick, great results, very accurate!

Super accurate. I love this app

Vraiment cool 😊. Cette application est très pratique et très intéressante 😊

Another good app. Nice app, another snap a pic to figure out what this mystery thing infront of you is. Has a nice little feature when ur lining up ur shot, it’ll highlight and zoom in on the bug ur looking at.

It’s the best. It’s super helpful I was able to heal my bites by asking Luna!

Love It!!!!. Really awesome app for scanning and identifying insects. I use this app so much these days and have scanned over 100 species so far! Keep up the good work and keep updating this app to make everyone’s experience better!

Could be better. Lots of the time it don’t work would be a lot better if you guys didn’t make it so you had to pay for other than that is good, but there is some stuff that needs fixing

Review. Sometimes it doesn’t work for the real insect but sometimes it helps me

Quite a reliable & useful App. This App is pretty great to have on hand on one’s phone or device when needed. It’s results are pretty accurate & very informative. Spending much time outdoors & having three kids it’s very helpful to know exactly what we’ve brought or have welcomed into the home & what threat they possess to our safety - if any?!! ;) I strongly recommend this App for identifying insects/bugs which you come across & are unsure of it’s name. However, I do NOT recommend using this App from if you have a bug bite & need or want to know the name of the bug/insect that bit you. On a few occasions I was told I’d gotten bit by a tick when this was not the case.

Was better never accurate at all. Was once okay at identifying insects now it’s not even remotely close. Like not even the right type of insects whatsoever- hey said a spider was a wasp like no. So bad get it together. I even tried correcting some and it won’t update. Don’t waste time anymore

Amazing. I have a daycare, and the children are so fascinated by insects, and always ask me to identify which bugs they have found!

Cool apps I want to make different kinds of insects. This app is so cool

Great app. I love it

Fiabilité. Fiable jusqu’au genre et parfois la famille. Facile à utiliser.

👌. Application assez informative et les photo prises trouves tres facilement l’insecte en question

Great app!. I have several of these ‘PictureThis’ apps, and swear by them. I’m one of those people who googles every question that ever enters my brain, and I LOVE having these apps handy to identify insects, plants, mushrooms, etc. when I’m out and about.

Scam app. Such a stupid app, you need to pay to see what kind of insect you’re identifying 😂

No free trial. I downloaded the app, tried it for 3 hours, and cancelled. But I was charged 45$CAD on my latest credit card report.

Best bug app. Obviously it will never get every single identification correct but it’s spot on almost every time and when it’s not it’s close enough where you can figure out the right species by yourself. I’ve had so much fun over the past couple months collecting and photographing different bug species. Haven’t needed to subscribe yet and have been getting a full experience without it but I definitely plan on getting it soon as I’d like the extra features and want to support this app. My favorite app on my phone other than Spotify

Never steered me wrong. I am so impressed with the accuracy of this bug identifier! It’s never been so simple for me to click a picture and get the answer to all my curiosities, as well as important information on how each insect could be harmful to me, my pets or my plants! It’s educational and very fun!

Great for insect findings!. I love to figure out more about our bug world and this app helps a lot, like giving info on the family group, where it can be found, and other species like it. However, it does keep asking for a free trial every once in a while and it doesn’t tell you the full life cycle of an insect (at least not where I could find it). Overall, pretty good at an okay price (can be $70 a year though).

Identification Lacking Critical Information. This app works well and is extremely helpful to identify the bug. Unfortunately once you identify it, it doesn’t tell you if it is poisonous, or bites or stings. It simply gives you the name and some habitat information. For example, I was trying to identify a spider on our patio that I thought might be dangerous to my children. It was indeed a wolf spider but the entry said nothing about it biting or being poisonous - which of course it is. So you have to look up the insect elsewhere once the app identifies it in order to gain critical information. This kind of info should be included in the app.

Place to go. This app is so easy to use and 100% helped me cure my curiosity. I kept finding these bugs all over and being that I have pets and children I wanted to know 1st what it was and 2ndly is it harmful . This app helped figure out that it’s just another type of ant I have . But I also learned a few things about the average ant I didn’t know :) I’ll be keeping this app for sure

Very Helpful! 😄. I had to do a big project for my science class and I had to identify the types of bugs we find. I couldn’t find what they were so I tried this app and they showed me the exact match to the big I took a picture of! I am very happy with this app and recommended it to all my friends! Very helpful but please make it free or a free option. I only needed it for a week but I still would like to use it in the future! Hope this helps! 🦗🦟🐜🐝

Wikipedia for bugs. This app is trash...there is no real database for matching the bugs you take pictures of with whatever they have on file...and what they have on file is either Super basic or someone else that has this app took a picture...you can literally put in your own definitions of the bug...like you discovered some new species...which let’s be honest..not entirely likely....this app is literally having you pay them for you to give them whatever “knowledge” of bugs you have that they don’t have in their database...which is an alarming amount...this app is not worth buying...just go look it up on google, that’s free...and probably more accurate

Good app, could be great. Update- the app doesn’t work anymore. It says “reconnected” and then goes right to a white screen. I’ve tried to delete it and redownload and it still doesn’t work. For 20$ a year, it’s disappointing. This app is pretty good. It makes accurate identifications most of the time, and has a lot of great info about the ID’d insect. It also gives several options of IDs in case the first is not spot on. This is a great feature. The reason is gets 3 out of 5 stars is for two reasons. 1) When you upload a picture from your library to ID- you have no control over where the scanner will look when it scans it. This is frustrating because it makes it impossible to identify certain t bugs, and often gives you several wrong identifications. This could be remedied by being able to zoom out on the picture in order to get the full insect into the scanning zone. 2) This is a paid subscription app. It costs 20$ a year- so it is not free as advertised. If the scanner picture issue is resolved, this is well worth the 20$ a year.

Amazingly PERFECT!!!. The app is perfect! It used the photo I took and not only gave me a list of species that look similar to my photo, but also gave me the correct specie right at the top!! Tho there are a lot of photos missing, it limits the suggestions to just a few so it makes looking them up easier! The only thing I would suggest for this app to be absolutely perfect is to allow users to add the correct photo of the insect where photos are unavailable. 😇

Wonderful. I love this app. I use it regularly, it has became vital since being transferred to a new (to us) part of the country. We had just gotten the bugs of AZ figured out when we had to move to WY. Believe me when I say WY has some bugs! I am grateful that I found this app. We also use the app for identifying plants. Both are a must for us, especially when there are always transfers looming. A must have!

died. We almost died thank you for making this up because if you don’t, then we might’ve died and we found a poisonous spider. That’s a very poisonous and it was in our church and if you guys weren’t here, we would’ve crawled up Austin better so we would’ve let it live, but thank goodness for you guys we stepped on it now if you see a wimpy spider step on it or you’ll get your you will die

Why you should choose this app.. I woke up to a bug on my arm crawling I freaked out and couldn’t identify the bug after 2 hours of searching google. I got this app and as soon as it installed I opened it pressed the button it immediately saw the bug that I had killed and self zoomed in on it and everything despite it even being in a shady area, and identified it in 6 seconds, as a false bombardier beetle. And even gave me facts about it too.

Perfect for what I needed.. I literally just downloaded this app to identify a bug that looked close to a tick, but had antennae so I knew it had to be something else. The photo I attached was incredibly blurry so I wasn’t entirely sure if they would be able to identify it. Took about 20 seconds and it was the exact bug. I only planned on using the free trial but now I think I’ll keep it!

Helps me ID bees. I’ve become a little obsessed with native bees over the past couple years, and got this app to help identify all the different kinds I’ve photographed. It’s not always right, but it gets at least the right genus 80-90% of the time, which is very good, considering the sheer number of bee and wasp species there are to choose from. I’ve only used it free, but am actually thinking about subscribing just to support them.

Bug identifier extensive information. This app is very cool, can immediately identify an insect and give you all the info you need to know and then some. I haven’t upgraded but I would if I could afford it. It’s not expensive, I’m on a old man budget but I’m very happy with what’s available already. I got the same app for plants it’s another must have app! 👏🏼

Cancellation Practice - dubious at best. When cancelling within the app, you receive a computer generated email that tells you HOW to cancel your subscription even though it looks like they cancelled it for you if you don’t read the entire diatribe about how amazing their app is. You have to cancel it through the App Store, just sending the email doesn’t cancel it. On the upside, the app is really well designed and I’ll get to use it for a year even if I didn’t intentionally subscribe.

Amazing!. I signed up on a whim, thinking I would cancel after my 7 day free trial. No way, I’m keeping this forever. It has already proven SO useful. I have identified a male western black widow in my home AND a brown recluse (as well as many other non-venomous and harmless spiders/insects). This app is very easy to use, the camera feature takes very decent and accurate photos, and the database of information available is excellent. I am telling everyone I know about this app.

Healthcare. Currently work in a busy emergency room, this app helps identify many of the common pests that patients unfortunately arrive to the department with. By knowing the species of insect, I can provide more rapid care, as well as directions for other health care team members on how best to deal with the room the patient was in, which in turn helps to prevent further infection and gets the room back open quickly and safely. I would totally recommend this app.

For Anyone Who Loves Animals, Exploration, & Pokémon. If you’re like me and you’ve always dreamed of having a real Pokédex with real animals in the world encouraging exploration then this app is a dream come true. Guys, I literally scanned an insect that I found, and very much like a Pokédex, it showed up information and images about it alongside tips and biological data. This app was made with animals nerds like myself in mind.

So useful!. This lady is scared and very creeped out by insects and having recently moved to a place where there is a way way more prevalent and varied population than where I come from I am really curious as to what is creeping in my yard. Dang!! Like Oriental cockroaches ( big! beetles), and Tiger Centipedes (7” long), forget the SPIDER varieties!!! This app has helped me identify and somewhat calm myself just knowing what to kill and what to leave alone.

Educational and useful app. I love this app! My kids love this app! Every time we come across a bug or spider we do not recognize my we open up the app and have our answers in seconds. The quick overview is always exciting to read, but also leads to my kids wanting to learn more. Highly recommend app, one of our family favorites!

Great app got me into a new hobby but there is one problem. Hello, this app is amazing and has been super fun, BUT you not being able to give your location for more accurate identifications is annoying. Getting recommended something from the other side of the world isn’t helpful. Maybe you could later add giving your vague location for better IDs

I love this app!. I’m a huge bug lover and connoisseur and when I found out about this app, it immediately peaked my interest. My friends and family come to me to find out what bug they found and all I have to do is upload a picture of the bug and the app will show you what it could be or what it’s similar to. This is the best app!

Location. I think that if you used location services the app could better define what species I am trying to identify. For instance, I just uploaded a rather clear image of a spider and the app identified it as a mouse spider, indigenous to Europe. I’m in western pa., USA. Also if it were truly a mouse spider, it should be reported to the proper authorities. We have enough invasive species already. It’s probably an eastern parson spider. Still venomous, still removed carefully and put outside.

Has worked for me. I’m an insect lover and decided to use this app to identify a little bug in our home. It wasn’t even a decent picture but the results were accurate (it was a long-necked seed bug)! I think it’s also nice that the developers are actively trying to make the app as good as it can be by listening to their reviews. Overall, I’m pretty happy with this app and I have a lot of faith in it.

Great app but wish there was one additional feature. I love this app! I’ve used it for years. My only wish and the reason I gave it for stars instead of five would be that in additional to humans and plants it would tell you if an insect is poisonous to dogs (or cats) and what the reaction would be. Right now, once I get the insect info and have to exit out and google search to see if it is.

Must have for renters and home owners. Too many times I've seen a bug in my house and wondered if it's something dangerous, sometimes even washing all my linens on high and putting them into sealed bags when I spotted a number of them on my bed. This app is amazing as instead of sending pictures to family and landlords I can just instantly know if I should be worried or not.

Fun and educational :). We just moved into a house on a lake with 3 acres. Needless to say there are a lot of bugs out here! A lot I’ve never seen. And, since most bugs freak me out this app has helped ease my nerves because the majority of the ones I’m finding are harmless. Add the fact that this makes “collecting” the bugs into a game and I now look forward to seeing new bugs and learning about them :)

Super Useful. This app is super useful and informative! My friends and family will now send me photos to identify bugs for them using this app. Not 5 stars because I have to refuse the paid version of the app every time I open it. Please remove that pop up ad. If I want to pay for extra stuff, features, information, etc. I will pay for it. In the mean time, let me use the app without bothering me every time I open it. It’s one extra step every time and it’s annoying.

Awesome!. I was searching up an insect online for at least one hour and thought of taking pictures for identification. I found this app and another that had higher ratings. The higher rating app had more users, but it could not identify the insect I found. This app, on the other hand, could. I felt extremely relieved when I finally found out what the insect was (Anisomorpha Buprestoides aka Southern two-striped walkingstick).

Impressive identification from photos!. I snapped a photo of a strange insect, and it immediately showed me an exact match with pictures, taxonomy, and FAQs about the insect species. It was extra impressive that it identified the bug despite the mess in the background of the photo. And this was on the free version without subscribing! I might opt for a subscription just to take a look at some other bugs I’ve been curious about.

Works even with a bad picture!. I couldn’t get a good close up picture of the insect and it wasn’t a good camera to begin with and it still identified the bug quickly and precisely. It gave me other stock pictures so I could tell that it was the right bug. Gave all the info I needed to decide not to kill it but rather relocate it. After many identified bugs, it has always been accurate.

Super fun, easy, and fast way to identify insects. I'm an entomology student, and am always finding new insects I want to identify. Not only is it faster than using the internet or a key, but it is also quite accurate and a lot of fun to use! I also love that it saves all the insects you've ID'd and keeps track of how many you've uploaded! It's truely a great, fun way to learn more about the most diverse group of animals on earth!

Insect identification app. This is another one of that make it easy to identify insects using photographs. This application and others like it are good for a quick identification. My only suggestion for improvement is to enhance the educational value of the app by using the scientific names and terms for parts of the insect. The way I use this application is to get a quick identification of the insect and then look it up in a field guide.

Amazingly accurate!. AI has come a long way in identification by photo. I am absolutely loving this app and how quickly and how well it does identification. I also have Picture This, which does the same for plants and has been incredibly helpful. A note for the creators, however: the app lists some unusual creatures under Arthropoda. I’m not sure about all of them, but I’m pretty sure wooly lemurs are not arthropods. 😂

Cool to identify all the bugs out here in the country. I live in something of a wooded, some would even say countryside area. I see various types of insects day today especially spiders and I often wonder whether the spiders are dangerous or not, because I am terribly afraid of spiders. This app is extremely helpful to identify cute bugs and disgusting ones. I would highly recommend it.

Bugs are cool!!. I like how easy and useful this app is to find the right bugs and define them! Has saved me a few times ngl ;) it has a subscription thing but the free version is so great that you don’t even need it to get what you want. I have the free version and it is so useful, it has a lot of descriptions and pictures and everything you’d need to know about it. ,from one bug lover to another.

Awesome app. Its good for hiking and i love that it tells you what bug it is with my love of bugs i want toknow what they are also love that im a house mouse! I also like that it tells you if they can hurt u or stuff its a good app to have when hiking so u know just in case (also good if someone has a pic of a bug on their phine u can scan ans tell em) anyway why does it take rats and mice? Probably cuz they are bug like lol anyway bye bye thank u for reading the review have a nice day!!!

Don’t know what I would do without this app!!. I live out in the country, in florida. So I come across a lot of bugs! This app is so critical for me to be able to identify which of the bugs / spiders / whatever , are poisonous, and which ones just look scary. This app is super quick in identifying all of the bugs, I’ve never had it not know what I was looking at! Worth the money for my peace of mind! Thank you!

Please include toxicity and/or danger level!!!!. I’ve identified SO many spiders and weird flying bugs. Even some toxic millipedes. Even with fairly terrible pictures sometimes it somehow manages to identify the bugs. Very impressive. I moved to the south and want to know what it is that I’m encountering. I only wish it did a better job explaining the toxicity of bugs/danger level and a level of pain and/or damage inflicted it bitten, stung, etc. I’d really like a better idea of how bothered I need to be about certain bugs.

Great! ❤️🐞. This deserves a 5-stars! It doesn’t require a subscription, and it always gets the insect correct! We found 2 poisonous spiders and other beautiful insects! I would definitely consider downloading this!! A gardener would absolutely die for this app! It will be great for you and your family ( Or just you! ) to just roam around to find and learn new insects!! This app is amazing and I would definitely consider downloading it! ❤️❤️🕷🐞

I’ve learned a lot!. This app has really helped me identify insects and learn more about them (scientific name, where they’re native from, dangerous or not, etc.) I also like how easy it is to use. I just take a picture, the app processes it, and shows results for that insect with all the relevant information. Highly recommend to anyone who’s just curious and open to learning more about our bug community!

Too many tries. I get the best photos possible, granted the little gnat-looking house plant pests are very hard to photograph but holy geez they are far from this app’s identifications. I finally killed one and got a decent pic. Your app tells me it’s everything from a yellow fever mosquito to some kind of horned backed spider when clearly it’s a tiny black insect with clear wings. I keep trying though ...

Not bad but can provide false information. I love these apps. However, when someone can’t match a picture description, they ask you to correct it. That is terrible when the person trying to identify has absolutely no idea what it is. There needs to be an option for simply “wrong” or “incorrect” because it looks nothing like the bug that’s picture was submitted. Again, I love these apps! But, the process of identification tactics is flawed. A review section amongst peers would be nice.

Very Informative. I started using this app to identify insects in or around my house. I had no idea there were so many different bugs living in my area and it gives me peace of mind to be able to tell which ones are harmful and which ones are not. My kids now ask to identify all the different bugs we come across and love learning about them. It’s educational, informative, and a great resource!

My house centipede.. I was petting one of my cats in bed when I noticed Tiger( my older female) had her eyes trained on something. I was prone on the bed but quickly rose to see what she was looking at. Just a house centipede. I quickly looked on my phone and found this site. Thank you bug identifier. I can relax and go back to petting tiger. He scurried up the wall and found a hiding place. No worries. I only kill roaches. We thankfully don’t have them in out Apt.

Camera Superior to Other ID Apps!. Only been using this app for a short period of time but I can tell you immediately the camera is far superior to other ID apps that I have used. I love the ability to save my bugs and all of the learning opportunities available through the app. This is wonderful! Well worth the money in my opinion.

It works but still on 7 day trial then $30 per year. Just tried it today because I saw this beautiful lime green caterpillar . I found out that it was a rustic moth and it gave me information that it wasn’t poisonous that it did feed on plants mainly tubular plants but didn’t really do any damage but still eating my plants is a no deal situation. I really appreciated getting the accurate results quickly.

Picture insect. I got this app as a free trial to figure out what kind of bug it was that I saw. I meant to cancel it & forgot. At first I was angry at myself since it’s expensive for an app, but the more I used it the happier I was that I accidentally bought it! It’s wonderful & has helped me so much. I’ve found so many insects to put on there already. What a wonderful app! You won’t be disappointed :)

Really enjoy this app!. I went on vacation recently and installed this app to check out the different insects I came across as we hiked the woods of the Ozark mountains in Arkansas. I had more fun identifying the many insects I came across in the woods and even the ones that managed to find their way into our RV. My husband and I learned so much about the insect world. At home I use this to identify what is on my plants and discover if it is beneficial for my plants or needs to leave!

App for people who don’t like insects. Unlike Picture This- the amazingly informative plant identification app whose interface this emulates- Picture Insects only cares whether or not the identified species is poisonous or eats holes in your plants. The developers genuinely don’t like insects! I’m thrilled when I see a gorgeous spicebush swallowtail butterfly in my garden. Picture Insects seems to consider them pests. Read their negative take on honeybees- which they lump in with killer bees - almost entirely ignoring their vital importance to worldwide agriculture. I hope they can improve their content in the future, since we need a good app for insects.

Very Useful. This app is very good because it has a wide variety of species that can be identified, and sometimes multiple different insects and or bugs to choose from of one doesn't look right. It's not the type of app that's basically useless if you don't have "premium" or other in app purchases. The layout reminds me a lot of another really good app called picture this, I recommend checking that out too. (It's for plant identification.) :-)
