It’s fine. Please read.. This app is for people who have their 401ks through their employers. That’s why I was able to get in. The app itself seems functional so far. No issues. I suggest you read a bit before downloading an app that’s not meant for you (referencing all the negative reviews).

Can’t log in.. American Funds - think about this from the perspective of the customer (account holders not companies) - it’s 2019 and users expect app-based access to their finances. This should be a standard feature for all your accounts - not just a premiere feature employers pay extra for.

Crash !. App keeps crashing when I try and load my statement . Can you add a spot under account where we can see our account number ???

Obscene fees but still not enough to use the app. The 401(k) plan has the worst investment options and fees either my wife or I have had in a combined 55 years of work history, and it’s apparently still not enough to earn to the privilege of using their app.

Impossible to log in.. I can log in to my AmericanFunds account on a PC or browser on my phone, but my user name and password are not recognized by the app. Thinking that I had to register, I tried. The app won’t even let me register.

Force closes when reviewing balance. When checking balance over time and changing to a different time range (YTD or 1-year, for example), the app force closes. Otherwise, the app works well.

Keep having to delete and download again. I have had to delete the app and download it again 3 times in about 3 weeks now. It seems that every update they make I have to do this process to be able to log into the app again. App is useful and would give it 4 or 5 stars if not for this issue as it is becoming frustrating.

Unable to update. I can’t update it

Keeps crashing. I can’t get past the log in before the app closes out on me.

The widget is not working by design. Before you guys upgraded it to the latest update the widget was working. Not it’s doesn’t even work anymore like it use to. I went to the app to turn the widget and I check it would show the information. But when refresh it it’s gone and it tells you to rest it up again. Please fix this issue.

Impossible to login. Not recognizing my web password, not recognizing my confidential information, locking me out, and all around bad experience to log in or get help to log in

App broken. I can no longer edit my contribution or see an account details. It’s like I’m not able to actually login anymore but it’s still showing me all of my account information

Log in problems. I can’t ever log in on the app but I can on the computer with the EXACT same information. It is very frustrating that such a prominent company doesn’t take the time to fix the app. It is another way the company can exchange money very quickly. It would be very helpful if they fixed it simply for profit’s sake, but really fix it for customer satisfaction!!

Loan Payments. I wish you could make extra loan payments from the app from your bank account.

Can’t access my account.. I’ve tried to use this to access my employer-sponsored 401k info. It doesn’t recognize credentials that work fine on the web and it can’t find my profile when I enter my personal info. It’s not worth it to sit on the phone with someone to fix.

Can’t log in. My login works fine on a computer but will not work on the app. I gave up and deleted.

Out of Service App. Same as most of the other reviews. When I login on the browser, everything works fine. But when it comes to this app, it doesn’t recognize my account, so when I try to prompt it with other info like my birthday, social, etc, it ends up locking me out of my account for a day. Can’t ever use the app.

Easy to use. Simple, and easy to make corrections. One of the better sites I’ve used. Most are overly complicated - unnecessarily so.

Login button not working. For the last few months I have significant issues with the log in button not working on the app. This is very frustrating. It won’t let me “click” it…..just acts like nothing ever happened. Can this please be corrected??

Can’t find my account. As simple as that. Have a few investment accounts with them. When typing in my social, login you name it. It can’t find my account. Online in web browser I have no issues to login.

Lots of issues. Touch authentication works after 3-4 attempts, after updating new version touch authentication stopped working, tried 7-10 times. App just allows to see balance, can’t do much what’s possible in website. Needs lots of improvements.

Not good. This app won’t let me log on at all. Then it tells me that it can’t even find my account. Makes no sense. I can log onto the website no problem.

I’m already enrolled so why can’t I see my funds?. I am enrolled. But every time I open the app it asks me to enroll. I can’t see any of my funds in the app. It’s really frustrating.

WARNING: possible phishing scam. Can not login. I can't login. It makes me wonder if this app is a phishing scam posing as american funds. Other people can't login either. I deleted from phone and changed my password and made sure my email and address weren't changed on my account.

Amazing app. So much easier than always logging into the website. Can print forms etc straight from the app

The web interface is easier to use than the App.. Before the App became available for iPad and iPhone, access was available through a web interface. Actually the web interface was better and now the App interface is clunky and more difficult to use. Additionally, within the App, in the area for Statements & Notices, certain document types will not open and the App doesn’t show the document type nor the type of error. For now, I just access the account on a Mac through the web interface. Much better. The App needs a lot of work.

Won’t let me create account. I cannot get pass the password part when creating an account. The security part won’t allow me to create my own but won’t allow me to use the auto-generated password

Widget does not work. I have an iPhone 8 with latest iOS and the widget does not appear on the Home Screen even though I have it adddf

Read Developer Responses here before downloading App. For whatever reason the app doesn’t disclose up front that it won’t work for many American Funds and Capital Group portfolios. So you type in a lot of personal information then get “locked out”. But you can still log into your account on a desktop. Disappointed that this isn’t disclosed up front.

This is a really good app. All the info you need at your fingertips

Never works. This app almost always says “error occurred, please contact representative” when trying to sign in. Incredibly frustrating. I’ve tried deleting the app and redownloading, nothing works.

Updates took a step backwards. Old version of app was easier to navigate and to read. This version is bland and not intuitive so very difficult to find things and to make changes. It also did something to account aggregation where my other site asks for my credentials for this account upon every login.

Too much red tape!!. When I saw that there was a mobile app so I could check my Trader Joe’s retirement account on my phone, I was naturally pleased. What I wasn’t expecting was this nonsense about asset allocation (or whatever it was the app was trying to get me to do)! All I want is a simple app that let’s me check on my retirement account and see its current value. That’s all. Nothing more. The app was deleted within a few minutes. If it’s fixed, I MIGHT download it again and give it another try.

Login doesn’t work.. Broken app - login fails and locks me out. I’m autofilling directly from Passwords with the same credentials used on the website.

Cannot log into app. The app will not let me log into it. I have gone onto my computer and change the password so I know the information is correct every time. This is the second time it has happened to me but will not verify my account information to log me in and change my password through the app on my iPhone. It would be nice to be able to utilize this app while I am out and about.

Mohan. American funds mobile app works well and has decent app features. But only problem I had is , it stops allowing me go to login after few weeks of use and give error message as contact plan admin. After I delete app and re-install it works well for few more weeks again. I request you to fix this issue, other than that good for me.

Doesn’t work after recent update. Face ID doesn’t work now and when I’m able to login with my password the app doesn’t work beyond the overview screen.

Great until update. App worked great until ios15.1 update. The login page is unresponsive after entering ID and password. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no luck.

User friendly. This app is very user friendly.

Very basic. Take a peek at vanguard's app. Its way better! Vanguard doesn't charge anywhere near the fees American Funds does and are able to develop an amazing app. Maybe AF doesn't prioritize UX?

Somewhat Functional Is The Best I Can Say. Not user friendly, UI is counterintuitive. It’s not easy to add or edit additional income streams (if you have a Roth IRA outside of American Funds and want to track your contributions they have a manual option, but how do I go back and edit it if I decide to contribute more?) As it stands, I’ve scaled my 401k contributions back dramatically and increased my Roth IRA contributions on the assumption that taxes will be much higher when I retire in 30 years. What’s the point of allowing me to track outside income if I can’t edit it easily so that the math reflects my current situation? To be fair, the tool is free. But the functions leaves much to be desired. If my employer did not use American Funds for our retirement, I would never ever utilize their services. It seems as if their app is designed to be opaque and difficult to use for more than the most superficial tasks, like a retirement calculator. There’s like 9000 of those online for free. I would expect more from American Funds. It never fails to boggle my mind that these companies that handle TRILLIONS of dollars a year have the most basic, bare-bones apps possible (also looking at you, Vanguard).

Don’t waste your time.. Capital Group, look at these reviews! No one can log in, myself included. Yeah yeah, I know, you’d like to speak with us and all we need to do is call your phone number. Here’s another idea, fix your app so your customers can log in to their accounts. Crazy talk, I know.

Login issues. I tried same credentials for web client, no problem logging in.

Contributions on App. I updated my contribution percentage and split it between my Roth and Regular IRA. It the proceeded to read 4% and $8. Isn’t there a proof reader?

Can no longer login. Just started receiving the following message at login: “an error has occurred. Please contact a Participant Service Representitive.” This error occurs whether using Face ID or old fashioned username and password. I’ve deleted and reinstalled app...nothing. No problem logging in via the web. ANNOYING!!

Total phishing scam. You can’t log in. They want you to call them at 800-204-3731 and they want your social security number right away!!! Big red flag!!! If you call American Funds 800-421-4224 they don’t ask for your Social Security number they ask you for your account number as it should be.

Did not work. I was unable to log on to this app. My log in worked on my computer so I think the app does not work.

This app is horrible. Every time I open the app it tries to Face ID me. It fails, not sure why. So I type in my username and password and it fails. If I try it a third time it locks me out of the app for 24 hrs. The third try is about 75% locked out and 25% allowed to see my money. Pretty sure a lawsuit will be coming because people should be allowed to manage their money.

Awful!!. I don’t understand how this app is rated above 2 stars. If you are even able to get past the login screen chances are you will delete the app within a week because it’s not worth the 2.2 mb of storage it occupies. Worthless. No access to account during down markets. The further the markets dropped, the less I was able to access my account with this app. It just spins the little logging in icon until it times out and provides to notification “For your security, your session has timed out due to inactivity.” Have not been able to login since 3/10/20. Totally denied access to MY investments as they plummet in value.

Okay but could be much better. Unlike others who can’t read that this app is only for specific plans, this app does work for me. However, its full of annoyances. The widget is the primary reason I got the app. Normally I don’t download apps for things I can just do in a web browser, but I wanted a widget to track my 401k to add to my homescreen alongside my other asset tracking widgets. The widget has never worked for me. Furthermore, the app always requires logging in even if I select remember device. I suspect this is why the widget doesn’t work. The process of logging in does not support password managers, making me have to switch apps twice to manually copy/paste username and password. Once logged in, the app works, but does not have 100% functionality of the website. Considering that the widget does not work, I will probably uninstall and go back to just using a web browser.
