Steam Link Comments & Reviews 2026
remote connection?!. so i had never used this app before but have had steam for a few months, installed it and set it up to work on my network, no issues, but didnt feel like playing at the time. a week or so later, i open it on my break at work (i work and live on the same street, but theyre not on the same network or even close enough to connect to either at the same time) and it just worked. rather flawlessly too. i was able to pull up 3DMark and did a benchmark on my system from my iphone while i was at work. interested to see the hit it was taking while streaming to a different location, and believe it or not my timespy score was higher than my last benchmark. we live in a strange world. steam link doesnt care. it just works, and if it doesnt work for you while youre two rooms away, then youre doing something wrong
Works great; input problems. This application is an amazing piece of work that turns your mobile devices into thin-clients for your gaming PC. It includes network diagnostics tools, and lots of customization and settings to help you get the optimal experience. The one major frustration that prevents me from giving this a 5/5 is that there are still major issues with games that require mouse input. I have two major gripes: To start with, in quite a few games, scrolling up and down on a magic mouse does nothing. I haven't tried it with a normal PC mouse that has a scroll wheel, but this should just work out of the box for an application on the App Store. Secondly In the Windows version of Unity games running through Proton, right-clicking anywhere on the screen to change the camera angle results in rapid spinning. The right-click seems to send mouse positions all over the game display, and it makes the games unplayable. I know emulation is tricky, but Valve's engineers work on both Steam Link and Proton, so this should have been caught by QA. Still, for the games where these aren't limitations, Steam Link is awesome. That's why I'm giving this 3 stars.
Steam Link Makes PC Gaming Couch Worthy!. Im an owner of the actual Steam Link hardware device and Steam Controller - but this app had just changed everything for my PC gaming habits. When I come from work (being in front a computer all day), the last thing I want to do is play in front of one. So enter this app. I’m now crushing through my library of unplanted games on my ipad like no ones business. Paired with the MiFi enable Steam Controller - it’s an absolute dream. It’s actually now made me pick up my Nintendo Switch less...but hey I’m all about playing those games at the resolution they were supposed to be played at!
Decent enough option for remote play (when it works at least). Steam Link would be great if valve actually put more work into polishing it. Upon connecting to your computer, they put steam into big picture mode on shows you your game library, which is done pretty well. However, it’s not always reliable if say, you have a game already open and you want to connect to your computer and keep playing remotely from your phone. At times it’ll just show you an infinite loading screen and when you can get the game on the screen, the controls will be unresponsive. When they work, Controls can be mediocre but at least you can fully customize them, although I think I have ran into issues with the control layout saving. However, if you have any type of wireless controller, you can connect it to your computer and just use the phone as a screen and audio. Speaking of audio sometimes, The sound doesn’t always switch the app, and stop on the computer Speakers which can be mildly annoying. Another thing that is mildly annoying is the STUPID “bootink!” Or “poo tink !” boop Sound effect for EVERY TIME hit a button in options menus. I mean seriously why do I need a sound? I already know what I’m pressing. Please give an option to MUTE this sound effect because I HATE annoying UI sound effects. If these kinks can be ironed out, this app would be pretty much PERFECT. Wishing the best. Cheers
This is Awesome!. I’ve played Black Ops 6 on through this app and it runs fine. I connected a 10th gen IPad to my desktop and connected my Xbox controller wirelessly to the iPad. Virtually 0 latency. I’d say 95% of the time it ran perfectly smooth. Sometimes my WiFi connection would weaken but literally it felt less than a second of a pause and then working perfectly fine once again. I had zero faith in the app because of the poor reviews but my experience is near perfect. I don’t know why people would want touch controllers on any steam game. Steam is not a mobile App Store. But I did try the touch controls on BO6 and it was just as fast as my controller in response time. I can hold of on a Steam deck for now because this is amazing enough.
Streams well, but controls are lacking.. The app streams games nearly perfectly in my experience, however, the controls are all over the place. In some places, like your desktop, you can choose to use direct mouse control. It is intuitive and just like using a normal touch screen. In many games however, it changes to a drag the cursor and tap to click mode. This makes it so point and click games become drag cursor to where you want, then click. This wouldn’t be so unbearable if it weren’t for the fact that you also click when you start dragging. Now if you are in a dialogue menu, you will always click the line where your cursor was last. Frustrating to say the least. The other needed feature is to allow all controls regardless of what you are currently doing. If you are on the desktop, you can customize to have common buttons like ctrl, shift, esc. However, in game they aren’t available anymore. Games that have their menu accessible through esc now require external input. Outside of those issues, streaming is great and if you have a controller gameplay is even better.
Great App, useless without an MFI. I am so happy this app exists, I love being able to take my entire Steam library wherever I go. The versatility is so great, and it’s so much fun being able to play wherever I want with my friends. My only complaints are that the connection can get kind of shifty, but that’s to be expected with a cloud streaming app, so i don’t really give much fault to that. The other, and more major, one is that unless you have an MFI or some kind of controller, this app is pretty much useless. The touch control registry for most of the games is nonexistent, and they only truly work with some sort of external controller. I have one and it works great for me, so I live using this app all the time, but unless you have some sort of controller or MFI, this app is useless.
Usually works well, needs some additional features. I have been using this to play a number of PC games on my iPhone. In general it works very well, occasionally requiring a reset that usually fixes things. My biggest issue with it is that there are a few commands hard coded into the app that sometimes conflict with certain games. Most notably, holding down the Y button on the controller brings up the session manager overlay. However some games require you to hold down Y for various things, and the app makes that input Impossible. Sea of thieves is a good example, where you have to hold down Y to interact with lots of things, but doing so is impossible while playing through this app. This function should be remappable, or at least moved to hold down start or something less commonly used in games.
Much worse after the latest update.. The latest update made the streaming performance much worse than before. The performance worsen not only on steam link ios app, but also on (steam-made) steam link device. Before they changed the interface, I had a constant 50-60 fps performance when streaming in 1080p. Now I only get around 20-25 fps. Another negative: After they changed the interface, now games with splash screen intro (skyrim, new tomb raider series, etc.) don't work anymore. Now it only shows endless loading screen with steam logo. I had to quit the game, physically go to my PC, quit the big picture (while streaming on my ios device), load the game again, click play on the game splash screen, and continue on my ios device. What a hassle...
Works well for what it's made for. If you're looking for a way to play your Steam games without sitting at your desktop, and you don't have a Steam deck, then this is probably one of the best options. It's free, it works well, and it's very easy to set up. I don't need anything fancy and I can deal with a bit of latency in movement since I mainly plays RPG games. With Steam Link, I can comfortably play my games in my bed by linking to either my phone or my laptop. Highly recommends that you check this out.
Good thing this isn’t perfect. So in the last year I have found myself hopelessly addicted to a little pc game called Kenshi, it quickly surpassed all other titles in total play hours. I came across the steam link app and thought “why not let this game run my life completely, even when I can’t be around my laptop? I surely have nothing better to do.” So I set out to get this working. For those who don’t know Kenshi is a game you can essentially play on pause so perfectly suited to this very high latency format. It was about two days of being impressed by how nicely their editor lets you set up a control scheme, triple checking that I had saved it in every way I could think, and finding my setup gone on returning to the app before… Some glorious serendipity of overlapping bugs allowed me to recall my settings! I was off! Also thrilled to find that it is workable even streaming across town over cell. In fact performance seems inconsistent no mater what network setup I've tried, even with a cable in the computer sitting next to the router. However, it has always worked well enough to get my fix in various levels of blurriness. Unfortunately the app also crashes when taken out of focus and sometimes randomly. But still, pretty wild the ways we can waste our time these days, this must be meta. .? Keep trying valve, you are somewhat appreciated. Ken heads check my layout, I think it’s the only one
Works most of the time. On average, this is an incredible app that lets you play on the go with your phone or mobile device. However, in a few cases it will just … not work. Considerable cases being weird green screen with only a mouse visible. You can still hear what’s going on, but nothing is visible. Other cases include crashing upon startup, and not recognizing computers running stream every so often. It could use a couple bug fixes here and there, but it’s not a problem as steam doesn’t charge anything for remote play like Microsoft does, which I see as a huge win.
Great. Works on Apple TV!!. Been wanting to play Elden ring on my couch for a while now and recently thought of searching the App Store on my Apple TV for the steam link app and truth behold, there it was. Connected my controller directly to my Apple tv and away I went. Runs perfectly. Feels like I’m playing on my pc but with the luxury of my own couch. I’ve never had a problem using the steam link to play games. Just gotta have the wifi for it tbh. Im running on 500 MBs and streaming games works fantastically
Amazing. The idea of being able to play my games on my phone or other devices is in itself amazing. I’m absolutely blown away at this. Not only does this allow me some freedom in regards to proximity and the like, it gives new life to games I’ve shelved. For example, Stardew Valley: great game, I love it, but I’ve always felt it would be better as a mobile game and when I saw it on my phone’s App Store, I knew it would be fun but I wasn’t willing to buy it twice. This allows me to not only play Stardew Valley on my mobile but also treat it like I have felt it should be, something I check in on and play in 20 minute or so increments rather than dedicate hours to at a time. Brilliant idea, and the fact that it’s possible.... I can’t sing your praises enough.
Was decent, now bad. Ok so I got this about a year ago to play Phasmophobia, and I remember the first day the touch screen worked, then it just froze. Now, about a year later, I decided to give it another try. I loaded it when I didn’t have access to my computer, and it said the tough screen was on, so then today I had to wait literally hours for it to update for some reason, and it wouldn’t let me do anything. The touch wasn’t even enabled, and O didn’t have a controller or anything connected. I don’t own a controller that works for computers either, only a PS3 DualShock3, so now I can’t play it at all. Everything is pretty simple too, so there wasn’t anything that could enable touch screen, not to mention the bad graphics. 2/5 because it could be good, but a bad experience for me.
ITS A GREAT START IN A GREAT DIRECTION. I gave it five stars because of what it makes possible never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I could play my pc games on a mobile device now I can do so on my phone that blows my mind it’s laggy sometimes when it works but it does work so I'm staying positive in hopes that the developers can fix the issues and they will I’m sure of it I’m playing with the backbone one gaming controller so I can’t and won’t put the blame solely on the developer of steam link but like I said I love the app and I love the direction it is taking us I’ve been a gamer for 35 years and I’ve seen gaming start and I’ve been lucky enough to see it get to where it is today I have faith in the gaming industry and the developers that make it happen keep up the great job with this app
Streaming works, controllers won’t. I tried using the virtual controller, and pairing a PS5 dual shock to my iPad Pro running iOS 15.4.1 and neither of those worked. No button presses were passed to the underlying game for the Dual Shock, and nothing showed up on screen for the virtual controller. What I do instead is that I will connect my controller to the PC through bluetooth, and just stream the video over. That worked well enough in my experience. Great job! There are definitely things to improve here, but the fact that this works at all is super sick.
Great But Please Fix Issues. Steamlink is by far my number 1 go to for remote streaming of my pc. Its better then Alot of competition and is by far the MOST easiest to set up again compared to others such as Moonlight. The only issues I had are the green screen which I fixed which I believe was due to resolution and video settings but most recently I had lost all audio in app it can pick up my mic but no sound can be heard BELIEVE ME yes I tried everything in steam, on pc, sound settings, audio inputs etc etc hours spent and I cant for the love of me fix this issue its not my pc because it works using other applications only steam-link I come to believe this is a actual bug which im not surprised too because yall do have issues when it comes to the microphone making audio sound distorted but this is a whole new issue please address yall issues and I hope to see Steamlink improve in the future for now I have a work around by opening up remote desktop to get audio while letting Steamlink capture my mic but please I hope to see this issue fixed in the future thank you so much for offering Steamlink again it is a life changer!
It’s playable. I tested this app out with really good connection speed and played right next to my pc. It turns out no matter how close you are (at least me in my case) will always have a mediocre experience. It’s cool for single player games that don’t take a lot of skill or games that are more peaceful. But any game (online or not) that requires you to have frame perfect timing is something you should avoid. I played forza horizon 5 and just driving around alone feels really bad and clunky but games like GTA, cyberpunk 2077, and dead island all felt playable but still not the best experience but that’s because streaming games are pretty bad right now. So basically just know going into this you will have a functioning game session with like 30-60 fps (on a good day) with mild input delay even with great connection
Please make an app for Cloud Gaming but keep this. Basically, I want to play steam games on my phone. But I can't when my computer is turned off, i'm still looking for a way to play my dreamcast games (SADX, SA2, and SA2B) that i've bought without my pc. I've found one way but got stuck because Geforce NOW doesn't let me use ANY of its subscriptions. Sorry i'm getting a little sidetracked, but the people that made Steam, please make a cloud gaming option so gamers that are suffering from this like me, can finally play any of their steam games on the go. P.S keep the stuff for the steam link, besides for the pc option
Great!. Works best with a controller as sometimes with simulated mouse you can click off a game that you run windowed and get out of steam, because you can’t tab back in it makes things awkward, also you need to be on the same WiFi which is limiting but given that it’s effectively remote access it makes sense, would love to see a way to lock it to steam only access and allow cellular, overall it’s a great app that does exactly as promised. A little more freedom with what controls you can place at any given time would be nice but again that problem is null with a controller. 9/10
Terrible most of the time.. So I only have one game right now that I care about and maybe the issue is just compatibility with that particular game but my experience has been awful. The game is Steins;Gate 0. When I start the majority of the time it will get stuck on “connecting”. Except it isn’t really. There is a pop up that appears on the PC. So I have to go over there and click the button with my mouse. Now the game will start on the iPad. But... half the time now the audio is on the PC and not on the iPad. And half the time the Steam controller stops working a few seconds in. If the game is full screen the it runs 10x faster than it should making it unplayable but only when using this app. If it isn’t full screen then half the time the streaming misses just slightly so I see part of the desktop and part of the game. There are other issues but I’m running out of space. But when it works it works great, just requires around 5 tries and 10 minutes to get there.
Finally-works very well. Just played 2 hours of Batman Arkham Knight in beautiful smooth hi-res on my iPad Pro. Used a MadCatz controller I dug out of a box; threw two triple A batteries in synced it to Bluetooth and steam auto installed a very small audio driver to my pc. No problems. I bet with a newer controller or maybe a Steam controller it would be even better. As it is, it’s beyond my highest expectations-I purposely chose that title because it’s a hog with lots of different controls and I had no issues. I’ll try some more games and come back and edit if I have any big issues but otherwise it’s great. Good job
Better than expected. It's not without its bugs but it can work very well. For the best experience, I recommend getting a backbone controller for your phone. It works without any configuration for some big titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy VII Remake. My PC is well equipped with an RTX 3080 TI and gig fiber internet so lag is never an issue. Not sure why this is getting such harsh reviews. It's pretty insane to be able to play real games on the go, even if it's not perfect every time. Really looking forward to this apps further development!
Negative reviews are missing the point. The majority of the negative reviews are from people who expected the app to do something it wasn't meant to. This app is for when you have a gaming PC at home, on the same network as your Mac, and you want to stream Steam games from the gaming PC to the Mac. It does a great job of this. I've been (re)playing Skyrim on my Mac from the convenience of my bed, with the Mac keyboard and a wired mouse. There's a very slight lag, but it isn't noticeable when using the mouse to aim and look around... it's only noticeable when using the mouse as a cursor, e.g., when navigating menus. There is also the occasional stutter, but it's not annoying. Overall it's not an absolutely perfect experience, but it's better than being tethered to my gaming PC. When you stop and think about how crazy it is that you're streaming a whole game from one computer to another with very low latency, this is a solid 5-star app.
amazing but just needs 2 things. Steam link is just absolutely great and i love it so much!! im able to play The Forest and Friday The 13th and its just so amazing but theres just one problem. i am unable to shift/Run when i play with my buttons on screen so it would be great if there was a button or maybe having to double tap and hold the joystick and is it possible for us to be able to play with our laptop offline and maybe being really really really far apart from our laptop because something like that would be really helpful when trying to play from another location on your phone instead of having to play while your at home 🏡 and okay now this will be the last thing i promise haha but um is there any possible way that the buttons on the controller can be customized in their size because if i have a small phone i wanna make sure i can see a lot of the screen and sometimes some buttons just cover most of the screen so if you guys could cover these things it would be amazing. Thank you so much for your time and you guys are doing amazing so keep at it
Best used as wireless audio.. I find the best use case for Steam link, is to use your phone and headphones of choice with steam link. It creates a makes for a great work around when you have no bluetooth port/ Headphones. Turn off Video and controls and it streams great depending on the internet/data each device is using, you could even use Googles Desktop sharing tool for a lighter weight version of this workaround. Otherwise used, Steam Link its a half decent showcase of Valve's streaming tech, is one downfall really is how bloated it is. That plus your bandwidth/data bottlenecking just slows everything down further...
Great when it works, but there are stability issues. I use this on my LAN (ethernet connection) with a headless gaming PC. When it works it is awesome and has no discernible lag and I’m playing at 4K. However, it has also crashed my PC many times. Usually I have to restart both machines and then it will work very well. If either machine has been on for a while, sleep, play, sleep, play etc. then there is a decent chance it will be too laggy to play or will crash my PC. I hope you continue to improve this app as it is a great idea and a real game changer for not needing multiple displays or having to connect displays when switching computers.
Lacks Native Support/ Touch Screen. For me the only controllers I own are some Xbox controllers. The problem is the lack of support for touch screen. I used to play a lot of touch screen games when I was younger. Now that I’m older; I’m fine playing them casually in another room. However, when trying to play games I found myself having no easy native controls. With me having to mingle with each game. This app works perfectly. If you have good internet and a good computer. The result is very visually appeasing with close to no lag. To me steam should have built some more features. Like remote using of the PC. Like being able to use mouse and keyboard mode on the computer with steam minimized. You are able to do this as I clicked out of the game and had remote access of the PC. Additionally PC remote controls like turn on from sleep or turn off. I’m aware that other programs have these capabilities; Integration of these services with steam link would be a very impressive way to get people using the app. Overall very satisfied. Would recommend to a friend. -Zack Felcyn
Stopped working after the new “Big picture mode”. I used to use this all the time as a way to check on the progress of some of my games, not to play them outright because I don’t have a good iOS controller. What I really used this for was Bluestacks. I had macros for some of my favorite mobile games. And it was also nice that locking my phone wouldn’t quit the games I was playing. Since the big picture mode changed to look like the steam deck, all the resolutions are wrong. It will show that I’m clicking on one thing but the mouse is in a totally different position. Also it seems like steam link stops other applications from opening. I try to open Bluestacks and it closes or stays on a black screen (if I open it while at/through my computer this doesn’t happen). Lastly this new update also doesn’t like it when I try to close big picture mode because it will sometimes freeze everything or exit and then immediately go back in on its own. Anyway, it doesn’t work anymore for me but if it will work for the game you like it’s good. That’s pretty much my review.
Nearly flawless. I tried this app a few months back and felt it just didn’t look or feel good enough to actually play games for an extended period of time on but today I tried again and was amazed what an incredible experience my wireless (no Ethernet) Apple TV was able to pull off. Was able to play the last 4 hours of resident evil 2 remake with no issues whatsoever today. No discernible input delay or major artifacting. Super clear font and all. I was seriously impressed. Not sure if they did something under the hood recently to make this much better or what but I plan on using this all the time now.
Amazing! But not for all games. Personally I think this is best for single player games that don’t require fast reaction times. Maybe turn based games, visual novels, extremely story rich games that have no combat, etc. The link is a little nuanced, and I mainly use it to connect to my computer from home in desktop mode so I can stream anime from it to my phone while at work. I personally believe this app is best for simply being able to fully access your computer from your phone. Playing any game that has combat will not be fun because there is quite a bit of input lag, and it’ll be a little frustrating to play.
An OK start. Streaming your games is definitely improving and becoming more of a viable option over time. After comparing various streaming services, from GeForce Now to AMD’s Link on the same network, I cant help but feel the impact of the quality of the steam link service. Granted, both aforementioned services rely on optimizations designed for their particular GPU’s as opposed to steam’s out of the box one size fits all approach. With that in mind I don’t feel like the experience is truly on par with the previously mentioned services from Nvidia or AMD. It’s not terrible, and it’s relatively smooth a lot of the time, but the hiccups and the recovery period of the stream during latency is kind of painful as opposed to being noticeably brief. That coupled with the poor touch controls and obvious biased towards non steam hardware like the controller, also contribute to my average review. Don’t get me wrong, I’d buy a steam controller in a heart beat if this service met the following standards: 1) improved streaming quality 2) remote access outside of your home network like the GeForce shield’s streaming setup I have. Otherwise, it’s a good start. I hope they continue to update it and improve it over time.
It works decent enough…. When it does work. It keeps defaulting to a drag and click method, which isn’t terrible, but also isn’t really that intuitive with a touch interface. You can change this in the settings (the icon with the touchpad/mouse buttons; there’s a couple different options in there) The real problems come when you try to play games with this. I’ve run into WAY to many where their virtual controller has the wrong key mapping for the game, yet there’s no options in their settings (and none for the game being played) to change it to the correct setup. Now, the controls CAN be moved around the screen, which helps slightly, but doesn’t change the fact that the key mapping is messed up. Your internet pretty much has to be really great for it to work (or you have to be like me and play pretty much only JRPGs or vns) because it lags CONSTANTLY. I have pretty decent internet and it still hits lag spots every time, even when I’m only doing basic stuff (not even playing video games, either. Just sitting on my computer’s desktop can cause lag somehow when there’s nothing else open or going on)
Blew my expectations. When I got this I expected it to be laggy and only support certain games that had the remote play tag. Boy was I wrong, you can run anything! Not only does it work while home away from the desktop, but I was able to play my ultra-modded skyrim during my break at work! It worked surprisiny well with no lag, but some big resolution dips over a bad internet connection in the break room. I use my Razer Kishi with this and strongly recommend it as the go-to controller for this!
Great for everything except “playing” a game. I use this app almost everyday. If I gotta hit the head while I’m in queue for a dota match, grab phone pop on steam link, never miss a queue. If I leave my satisfactory world running while I’m away from my pc and I wanted to see if everything was running smoothly, use the link to check in. If I want to remote download a game/purchase a game in desktop mode by the time I get home it’ll be waiting for me. The app does a lot of things really well including letting you shutdown and access basically your entire pc remotely in a lightweight response low latency package, however the one thing it doesn’t do well is gaming. That’s not the fault of the app but the device which it is on. The only thing I would add is better dynamic resolution support for multiple displays of different sizes or at least allow us to select a monitor as primary to avoid issues on the app. Been using this non stop for 4-5 years now and even had the actual physical link back in the day. Great product. Keep it free and keep it up
Still Pretty Terrible..... This has come a long way from what it was but for all intents and purposes its still a broken mess. Ive redownloaded this multiple times over the course of Valves devolopment becasue im a sucker for having things just be native (not having to use Parsec/moonlight and just stream games with one single app)...and I was excited to see how this performed with my new Steam Deck....and although it has made some improvements, this app is still basically unfinished. My host machine is a dedicated game streaming server with literally zero other processes running other than whats needed to run games. Connected to a gigabite wired network and streaming via wifi (less than 5 yards away from my router) to an M1 Macbook Pro. Even with resolution scaled way back (720p)games constantly drop frames, stutter lag and audio poping is horrible. Controller support (Xbox one series controller) will just stop working all together and will constantly hit me with "slow network speeds" despite its own network tool recommending 100mbs network speed. I suppose its worth mentioning that I tend to stream higher end "AAA" games and not indie games or smaller/lighter weight games, so maybe it will work better for that... Parsec and Moonlight both run flawlessly...save yourself some time and just use either one of those.
Apple Pencil works!. They " updated" the input method by completely bricking apple pen input, Edit: they updated the app but using the apple pen is still very broken, often time still not responsive, and even when it is, the “hover” function where you can move the mouse without clicking using the pen still doesn’t works so right now it’s still missing all the function that makes the apple pen special Edit 2: they fixed the issue, now Apple Pencil works th way it did before! Thanks for fixing!
iPad External Monitor Support with mouse malfunctioning. When using an iPad that connects to an external monitor, the steam link app launches a black screen on the iPad and outputs the stream on the external monitor. However when using a mouse, it is unusable on the external monitor as it is trapped within an invisible barrier of the iPad screen and not the entirety of the external monitor. Changing the resolution of the stream to match the iPad doesn’t solve the issue. In addition whether using stage manager or duplicating the iPad display, the result is always the same. There seems to be no way to get the mouse to properly use the external monitor without being locked in the iPad screen. I believe it’s an issue of scaling or a bug, if the mouse scales with the external display it should be fine. Please look into this valve. Otherwise app functions fine if it is in the iPad screen only. Has trouble lowering resolution on the fly if the network is bad.
Just what i’m looking for :3. The main reason I downloaded this was because I wanted to play this specific story game from the comfort of my bed since they unfortunately don’t offer a mobile version. It’s just so much more relaxing , and a better experience. It works decently for a story game I would say, since it doesn’t really require much movement, than a scroll and click. Of course it’s kinda iffy, not the best, but it pleases me enough.. I don’t really have plans on playing other games from my pc on mobile, honestly just the more cozy games since it makes sense :33 🤍🤍
Surprisingly Good. All things considered the fact that this allows you to remotely control and play your Steam games from your phone is pretty good. What surprised me the most was how actually decent the latency was. It’s still not something I’d recommend for all games, but the fact that I play actually fine in a fighting game (on single-player modes at least) is pretty remarkable. The only real problem I see with it is that there’s no touch controls. Touching your screen can only control your mouse. If you have a modern wireless controller then chances are it can be connected to your phone through Bluetooth. It’s a neat feature that wasn’t necessary for them to add, but it’s available anyway and actually works pretty well.
Controller problem. Now a lack of good touch controls makes enough sense but if I can’t use my controller then this app is kinda pointless.. My controller doesn’t work on this I’m using a PS5 controller and was able to use it on other apps to test it but for some reason it doesn’t work in this app despite it saying it’s connected. It won’t do anything during that start up screen for the app where it says controller settings then test controller. Even after my phone connects to the computer and is loading up steam or a game directly it won’t do nothing despite the fact I have the touch controls off. I can even test the controller by turning on and using the touch controls to go to steams controller setting press identify and the haptics confirm it’s connected. Is there a reason for this a way I’m supposed to connect outside of Bluetooth ?? So from my experience it’s great if you can use the touch controls but my controller ain’t connecting so no SpiderMan Miles Morales mobile for me….
Insanely laggy from my experience. So I downloaded this because I wanted to play Stardew Valley off of my phone, I wasn’t expecting me having to live stream from my computer just to play, I was certainly disappointed about that but I’m also not sure if they even said that you could do that in the the first place, so I’m not sure if I just was making up stuff or like they said it or not. Once I started the live stream, And it was extremely laggy on my phone there was like 2 frames per second. it asked me about the setting on how to move and all the buttons and what they do, once I customized my controls, the controls didn’t even work- I have to move around on my computer and the controls on my phone don’t even work. Those were my only complaints, I definitely think that this app is safe to put you’re email in and you’re account information. That’s all!
Look this is great software hampered by it's lack of following apple UI standards. Just basic things like taking focus without being "fullscreen" are against apple guidelines, the app doesn't play nice with MacOS in really any way. I get that this isn't the super high priority product since mac gaming is niche and game streaming on a mac is even more niche, but I truly believe that y'all in Bellvue can make a top tier Apple API based app. If Steam and Steam Link felt like real top tier MacOS apps, and not also rans, you would enable so many more people access to your storefront. But like the steam client still uses window chrome elements from before retina macbooks launched 10 years ago, so IDK if you will ever take this huge and growing platform seriously
Great product but some issues. When using a controller the software works great. It does have some strange issues going from full screen to creating a second desktop but that's here nor there. The thing does it's job. If you're a KB mouse user it's where the issue begins. When you hold a letter key, let's say E, you will able to call diacritic marks among other things. Well Steam Link pick up on this and it is very annoying holding the WASD and seeing that in the screen. Only reason I don't score it 5.
unfinished imo. great idea but if you gotta be on the same wifi, whats the point? to keep playing when you gotta use the bathroom maybe? overall id vote the point of using your phone for steam is to be away from home. essentially to use your phone as a steamdeck (granted you have a phone controller to use). and im also aware this would imply loading huge games on the minimal memory phones have but thats what SD cards are for. if this app could run games on steam separately id unquestionably give it 5 stars and go as far as promoting/encouraging the download of it, but considering it has as much use as the controller youd likely use for it, its no more than a wireless connector for pc controllers. saves money i guess but nothing to be hype about
Start/select doesn’t work with Rotor Riot MFi controller. So bought an Rotor Riot iOS (RR1850) MFi controller everyone recommended. Started up steam link and dark souls and everything worked well. But then tried to get into menu and the steam overlay kept popping up. Realized that the start/select button chords weren’t working. It’s like the menu button on the controller is hardwired to pop up the steam overlay. So tried turning the overlay off and than it’s like the menu button didn’t do anything in game. I know that the button works because it registers in iOS games and in the controller input check. This makes most games unplayable since the start and select button is quite important in most games and functions like an inventory and menu. So most games including dark souls is unplayable. I might try an Xbox controller but didn’t work with the recommended MFi controller. Hopefully this is just a easy software update fix.
Amazing but More Instruction Needed. This app is more amazing than advertized. Mouse & keyboard support. It works outside the local network. Lag is hardly noticable aside from intermittent slowdowns. Obviously worse than ethernet but fine for casual gaming when travelling, even first-person-shooters. Mic input is disabled by default, and it took me awhile to realize I could enable it in the escape menu. I had an issue where the mouse cursor wouldn't appear in-game that I fixed by enabling num key control in Windows to spoof a mouse.
A Stellar App for Gamers. Flawless Functionality: This app works seamlessly for its intended purpose, and I couldn't be happier with how well it performs. It's a testament to the developers' dedication and expertise. Free and Accessible: It's worth noting that this app is not only functional but also free to use. The generosity of the developers in providing such a valuable tool for free is commendable. Cons: None. Seriously, there's nothing to complain about here. Final Thoughts: I find it perplexing when I come across negative reviews from users who might not have fully grasped the capabilities and purpose of the Steam app. To the developers: Your work is exceptional, and your contribution to the gaming community is invaluable. Thank you for making this tool available to us. Don't be discouraged by the naysayers – your dedicated users appreciate your hard work. Keep it up!
Never consistent. Somehow this is the best and worst thing ever. When it works i absolutely love it. I can play my pc games while laying in my bed or on the go, but they have a TERRIBLE habit of breaking the app to where its pretty much unusable for me before they fix it after a long time to just turn around and break it again. Before this latest “Big” update I could play just about anything with my controller. Now I hardly can play any of my games with a controller without it freaking out. Example my layout is basic fps layout but when i stream to steam links A, B, RT and several other buttons will ALL be jump even if i redo my controller mapping. It honestly feels like they are pushing updates and not testing it before releasing it.

Worked for a bit but.... Then it just started crashing THE ENTIRE COMPUTER, seriously like how, why and WHAT
terrible. It barley ran sparking zero, with an okay internet connection with some modifications to the settings to make sure that the game ran smoothly, but it didn't and the game lagged a lot and it performed badly.
Great app, but..... ... I’ll put 5 stars when they fix it. It’s broken after the recent iOS update and it doesn’t work anymore for me.
Always crush once I open it 在我打开时总是闪退. Ben a while without using steam link Suddenly I decide try to play heroes 3 might and magic But I found that it always crush when I tap to open it. After I google about the reason I understand that it’s should be some error about the new update Normally I won’t give 1 date to any app but have to put it here because it’s been around 3 or 4 days since people start to report this problem but still not fixed. How come a leader in their own industry like Valve’s products like this???
Works great for portable gaming. Works exactly as it's meant to. Allows me to connect to my desktop PC and stream my games to my phone or laptop to allow me to play aywhere. Doesn't mater if i'm at work or travelling - i can still play my games. Interface allows touch control pad or mouse control, with capabilities to connect a controller. Love it, has saved me from boredom numerous times and no more gaming withdrawal. Works on minimal signal, although tends to get spotty and laggy when signal strength to phone is low (as is to be expected, no fault of the app)
Touch left click won’t work.. As title says, I can’t get any mouse games to work because it won’t Register a left or right click using touch screen. Please help!
*slow clap*. The only good Steam mobile app, shocking...
Interesting. It works well, only downside is that the bit rate makes the game not come through perfectly clearly, though that is expected as the streaming quality is comparable to that of the twitch app.
It works… 1 time out of 10. Sometimes it works, you get in and can play your game and it’s pretty good! But then sometimes the app just doesn’t work. If you’re in the app and you come out of it for ‘XYZ’ reason, maybe to respond to a message, when you go back into steamlink it will say offline. Then you close the app, try again a few minutes later, still offline. Then you close the app, try again and still offline.. then after trying 6 or 7 times you’ll get in and can play your game.. until you need to come out of the app to do anything.
Rubbish. So many issues with controller pass through, games switching to desktop, strange teleportation after 10min of play! Network tested to 100mbps and still issues everywhere. Avoid
Startup Issue (FIXED). The app works again thank goodness. Now I’ll never leave the toilet.
crash after open. Unable to start the app, worked fine last week, please fix it.
Quite simply does not work. All set up, activated on the host computer, and the app just hangs on the loading screen before you see anything 100% of the time. It’s broken currently, I would not bother unless there is an update.
New update crush when open. Was really good before but after new update the app has crush when trying to open. Hope they fix this soon.
Worked once for me. This app was great the first time I used it. There was no lag or glitches and it all worked fine, but then after I tried to use it again and my connection just breaks even though there’s nothing wrong with it...
Terrible quality over wifi. I'm really grateful this app exists, and I hope work will continue to improve the performance. I have a high spec gaming PC hard-wired to router, then a strong wifi connection to macbook air. The quality of the streamed game was awful with a lot of artefacts, even when there was no movement onscreen. The game and sound was choppy - basically unplayable.
Best app. I love this app it works perfectly
Was working great currently broken. After enjoying it for a week, The app has crashed every time I open
It works. Only useful if you have some need to stream from your PC, instead of just using your PC running Steam.
Fantastic experience. Using this app is like a dream come true. Over a 5Ghz network the controls respond instantly, and in my experience the graphics & audio have streamed without a problem. Paired with the Steam Controller it’s just a magical experience. Well worth the wait!
Play your way. Let's me play my saves etc without pants in any room in the house 🤷
Crashes every time. Just got it on my iPhone SE, running IOS 13.1 every time I try to open it, it just crashes again and again. If it just worked I’d give it a 4/5 thanks to remote play
Bad app. Do not buy you need a computer and it’s very annoying on first use.I am only putting one star because it won’t let me do zero!!!!☹️☹️☹️👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎🚫🚫🚫❌❌❌❌❎❎☹️☹️☹️😢😢😢
Works 90% of the time. Honestly surprised with the quality of the streamer gameplay, I don’t have greatest internet ever but I’m able to play my games with little to no latency with a (mostly) stable stream. It does stutter sometimes and it did crash on me once but I was able to get back into the game extremely quickly so it was no big deal.
Great app. Whats with all the dummies who don't understand what this app does or why it's necessay. a) There is a different steam app for direct steam use. Games are limited to titles with mac support. b) This app is to steam from a steam PC. Why would you want this? Well let's say I want to play a game on my TV, on in bed, our outside in a hammock - with this I can use a mac laptop intead of lugging a desktop around the house. Same reason steam link is already available for smart TVs, tablets, phones etc
When it works it’s ok, when it doesn’t it’s just annoying and dangerous. I play a lot of games on steam link and especially when I don’t have a wifi connection I can’t use PS remote play Some games work fine like hades but when I go to play destiny, it automatically presses alt tab and puts me on my computer’s desk top. I try clicking back into it and it just kicks me back out
Just not working for me. I don’t want to be that guy... but it no work for me. But if it did work I would be happy developers please fix please. I have waited a whole hour and it still hasn’t worked. Please fix.
This is actually good. I wanted to play my favourite game on my iOS,without jailbreaking it but since I had bought it on steam I tried to get a way to cast steam and this app actually works so you can cast steam to your iPhone or iPad but you need to be on the same wifi connection and you need a controller for the best gameplay
App doesn’t even open. I tried uninstalling and installing but still doesn’t work. I tap it and it opens but then crashes immediately
Great tech, some bugs. On-screen keyboard freezes the app and can’t be closed (tested on iPhone XR, iPhone 11 Pro) when controller is connected (tested with DualSense, Backbone One)
bad broke my laptop sound. i was streaming games from my laptop to my phone and now my laptop will not play any sound. I don't know how to fix this and i've looked everywhere and i have not found a solution to this.
Lag ruins it. I got this on my Apple TV and decided to try it out, even though I didn’t need it. Amazing concept, and I’m suprised it even worked at all, but there’s just too much latency, not unbearable, but certainly not ideal. If the lag was fixed I’d use it all the time.
Great. Works perfectly with Remote desktop and big picture mode 10/10
Good idea. It was a good idea since it would of been cool to use steam games on my phone or tv but unless you have really good wifi or connection to it it’s very laggy and has a lot of delay
It worked for a while. It worked for a while I had fun playing portal 2 on my iPad but right now It’s not letting me do it because whenever I click the app it crashes 😢
This app is almost perfect.. This app works really good before it would glitch but now it works amazing! It’s just that the graphics are not as good as what it would be on pc but that’s obvious that it probably won’t be fixable.
Full Version Prefered. give us the full steam version without another computer running Steam first. this is stupid having to have more than 1 computer runnning just to use Steam!!!
Amazing. I tried playing titanfall 2. Did not end well. 10/10
TV and Tablet problem. Somehow, the right joystick randomly goes upward while i had to use left and right stick to move like its a joystick which is very annoying to deal with. Please fix it
simply does not work. Everything is checked but just keep quitting after hitting play
Used to work. Normally works really well but the latest update broke the whole thing so it doesn’t launch anymore
Black bars. One complaint that I have is that there are black bars when using iPad, it does not run at native resolution
Thank you to valve and apple. It’s well know that this app has been a long time in the works. Firstly I thank the Valve team for their persistence in making this project happen, there isn’t a gamer on iOS that hasn’t been waiting for this and this app doesn’t disappoint. Secondly I thank apple, it’s completely understandable why you didn’t want this app to occur. We gamers truly appreciate your allowance of this app and look forward to many years of great gaming on your brilliant devices.
Doesn’t work properly on iPad Mini. FYI, this doesn’t work on iPad Mini. Only a quarter of the screen shows and there is no way to bring it all into view or move to the obscured regions. There is also no working way to fix it in settings. (The streaming display resolution settings should fix it, but only the defaults actually work, other settings show a black screen). Very disappointing. I didn’t have high expectations, I only wanted to play plain old point and clicks on the iPad, but I can’t even do that.
Not working.. Test screen works fine and says I have a stable connection at 100mbs. Then when I hit ‘start playing’ the phone screen just goes blank. Moonlight works perfectly so I’ll stick with that for now.
Great idea but doesn’t work well enough. I wanted this to work well but it seems my iPad Pro can only us a letter boxed version of the screen, I also have lag even though I get 100mbps on the test, used other streamers on my network without issue. Hopefully they can fix these issues so it becomes usable
Got potential. This could turn into something big but meeds a lot of work
Finally!. Been waiting about a year for this (since it got rejected). But today out of the blue, Steam Link for iOS lands!! Made my day. Performs really well too (streaming from a GTX 1080 to an iPad Pro). Steam Controller support is the cherry on top, and works around MFI limitations. Great job Valve :) Home-run
Cannot even launch. I tried to install steam link on iOS and TVOS But both crashes before reaching the launch screen. Will give better star if I can actually load to app
Connection speed. Great app! ! However I tried it on both my iPhoneX and iPad Pro in the same network. The connection on iPhone was great with speed of 100M/s while on iPad it’s only 15M/s.

Great. Works super well but it doesn’t activate my toaster or tuck me in at night 5/10 stars try harder next time valve
People!. The pc must be on because it needs the hardware to render and stream the game. Your steam games are not installed on a cloud that you can access when your pc is off. This is a great app. Don’t hold your breath for the ability to play with your pc off though. SMH 🤦🏻♂️
Crashes on Apple TV with tvOS16. Instantly crashes when trying to connect to a computer.
Play PC games from the couch. I am absolutely thrilled with Steam Link! This software has completely revolutionized my gaming experience. No longer am I limited to playing on my desktop computer - with Steam Link, I can easily stream my games to any device of my choice. The application is incredibly easy to use, and it works flawlessly almost every single time. Some tweaking required. It's simply the most reliable and convenient way to enjoy my PC games on the go. Excellent replacement for NVIDIA GameStream. But what really sets SteamLink apart is its versatility. I can stream my games to my phone, tablet, or even my smart TV. This has opened up so many new possibilities for me. I can play my favorite games while lounging on the couch, or even take them with me on the road. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with Steam Link and would highly recommend it to any gamer looking to expand their play options. It's my go-to solution for all my streaming needs, and I can't imagine going back to a world without it.
I’m all honesty. You deserve a medal, doc!
Doesn't recognize Linux system.. Doesn't recognize Linux system.
needs more compatibility. steam link is a great app don't get me wrong, but not forcing full screen resolution is kind of annoying. and also not having a touch input option for some games that support it.
The other reviews are idiot. It’s impossible to code it so your computer opens from the app since it’s closed and wouldn’t be able to run any programs
I love this app. I would highly recommend this app. I love it thanks to the developer that made this app.
Crashes instantly. Can’t even try to use it. :/
17+. Please make this app 12+ so it can be used if a 13 year old uses steam and wants to play on phone or tablet so please the owners of Steam please make it 12+ I'm begging you so please
Play without computer on. Amazing app. Please make the app usable even when the computer is off.
Performance issues. Hi this app is amazing but when I play it it’s always kinnda laggy and the audio is glitchy on my iPhone 10 but overall best app ever
Janky. Useful but rarely works without issue(s) if you can even get it working. Very infuriating. Support essentially non existent
Is it compatible with Xbox series s?. I don’t know if it is compatible with the series s and I want to know
Excellent Entertainment Tool. This is an awesome app if you’re entertaining guests and your desktop isn’t viewable on your main television or something like that. I see someone else commented that it’s not like PS app where you can stream while the system is offline. And obviously you can’t because it’s not a cloud server it’s literally your PC and your Mobile device LOCALLY not a remote device. With this and AMD Link together you’ve got the best of both worlds.
Great!. It works well, however it doesnt turn on your pc which is annoying. Add that and its 5 stars
new problem. app crashed when ds4 connected
Infinite loading nothing works.. Tittle says it all
Give us a real streaming option. This experience is terrible, only some games are optimized for remote play and even the ones that are bug out and the stream crashes.
Extremely slow latency. I don’t understand how this app works. I connect to my 5Ghz router, I do speed tests with 3ms latency and 300+ download speed, yet playing any games remotely, I get stuttering frame rates and slow connection. This app sucks. I’ve tried everything to no avail.
Phenomenal. So long as your home has the network to handle this; it’s nothing short of incredible. On a stable connection; 4k is near seamless with so few hiccups you’d think it was running native. I have a newborn at home and I’d hardly be able to play any PC games without this running on my iPad. (hardline Ethernet required; wifi 6(e) strongly encouraged)
Gyro is trash. Lucky if it work. Gyro is trash no option Lucky if it work, I need gyro when game don’t have aim assists
Doesn’t work all of the sudden. Can’t connect to my Steam Deck anymore after SteamOS 3.5.7. Please fix
Latest update crashes. The new update to the Steam client seems to no longer allow the link app to connect to it. It also makes the new big screen mode laggy and ultimately crashes, so that’s not great either. Other than that this app works great. I’ll be keeping an eye for that fix!
Oddly poor. The Internet connection and latency is bang on solid, which was my biggest concern. But I had no idea the UI is a nightmare and is unresponsive a lot of the times. It is unplayable tbh.
Stopped working. Mouse not responding anymore, useless app
Keyboard doesn’t work for iphone. I downloaded this app to play computer game via phone it works great with little to no lag, but and i mean but keyboard doesnt work well playing the game so you cant login or talk to friends online.... super sad also macros are a nice feature, hopefully they update keyboard issue for iphones
I play my games on here using the apple ipad!. Everything now works fine! Bugs and patches fixed
Valve: Making The Impossible Possible. I cannot believe it. I cannot believe that Valve made it possible...but they ACTUALLY DID IT. You can play Steam games ON YOUR PHONE, and it PLAYS LIKE A DREAM. Even better: I don't have a Steam controller, but I DO have a PS4 controller (the DualShock 4) AND IT'S 100% COMPATIBLE WITH THIS. Valve, take all 5 of those stars. You've earned 'em.
Wow. Blows my mind, I cannot comprehend the steam deck and be able to play steam games on your phone it’s actually mind blowing. Insane job steam.
Runs Smooth. Plays GREAT. Runs smooth. Runs better than Stadia too
Always crashes. Crashes instantly when you tab out. Terrible.
Great for streaming games to your phone. All the people asking to make the app work with your pc off don’t know how technology works, the point is not to run games off of your phone, but to provide a link that turns the phone into a computer monitor, along with controls. And this app does that perfectly, 5 stars from me. It’s entirely illogical to take off stars just because there is no impossible wake button, remember steam makes the game, they don’t make your computer, so to ask for a "wake button” is simply saying you are willing to personally modify your computer in order to turn it on with your phone; THE STEAM CLIENT DOESN’T HAVE THAT POWER OVER YOUR PC, and like all applications, it forcefully quits when you turn off your pc. And there, I’ve debunked the only reason this gets bad reviews for everyone. Good day.
I feel bad for some people but maybe next time don’t try to run it on an iMac.. From one that plays this just remember not all iPads phones laptops are designed for Steam mobile or whatever the hell it’s called I just want you to know that that’s why some people don’t like it that’s why some people like it because those people like it they have good hardware variable handle it but if you think it’s sucky your computer is a problem.
HIDE the home bar. I shouldn't have to enable Guided Access (which prevents me from adjusting the volume) to hide the bright white home bar while playing games using Steam Link. If every other app can hide the home bar, you can too Steam Link.
Best games. Valve is the best game company. Only people that could compare are RWS
Needs to have support when computer is off.. Hi Valve, Steam Link is a damn good app! The only problem I have is, you can’t play games while the PC is off, at least PS4 Remote Play let’s you do it! In Fact! You don’t even have to auto activate the PC! YOU COULD JUST PUT A BUTTON THAT SAYS WAKE! 4 stars only and will be 4 stars until this gets added
What a world we live in. Man I just played call of duty sitting in my car waiting for my shift to start at work. Although theres a pretty hefty input delay 10/10 would recommend. (Console or pc must be on for steamlink to work as it uses the hardware of that console/pc to run the game)
Seems solid. I think it seems like a good app, and the reviews are pretty good, but it makes my computer upset and confused. I don’t like that in an app.
Removes audio from you’re pc. When I closed it I couldn’t hear anything I had to reset my pc and it doesn’t have Rt and alt 3 stars also laggy and audio isn’t good
Major mouse issues. I am consistently delighted and disappointed by Valve. Something like Steam Link comes along and its 1000% what I need for my setup. The steam link performance and setup are simple and it works great! Except a VERY obvious issue which basically makes the entire effort a complete waste. The area your mouse can move is like 50% of the screen. On the host you'll see the mouse moving and it can't get to the bottom, left or right of the screen to select menu items. Also the top of my remote client display is cut off (black). So on the host you see your mouse moving in 50% of the available display, and on the client its the same but also maybe 10% of the top of the display is black. So what's the point? I'm using a 2020 16" MBP with retina scaling on. It's a feature I'm not turning off for you Valve so fix your app please! It has so much promise.
6 months later and still persistent issues. When accessing Windows 10 Steam from my MBP, if I have to drop to the desktop the mouse and keyboard work fine until I have to deal with some kind of dialog box that disables the remote controls. It doesn't freeze anything, I just can't control the mouse or keyboard. This happens when trying to select a sys tray icon to close, or install/uninstalling software where a installer/uninstaller dialog pops up. I have to walk over to the PC and control it. Once I get away from the offending dialog, I can control things again. REALLY annoying.
Please update for Big Sur. Steam won’t install additional drivers on Big Sur. App won’t work.
Not working after recent update. The steam link app used to work fine before the recent update. After the update, my PC always showing offline while it is actually online. Restarting steam on PC and closing the steamlink app fix the problem sometimes but not always. I am sure I do not have firewall or anything stopping it from working, so please address this issue.
Awesome but.... This app is really great but it only got the issue that the controler is impossible.. it keep changing and i cant change it back unless I press button to change it and make the game crash then relunch it.. it is really annoying..
Ok. It’s Alright, just a bit laggy, but that’s because it’s based on a connection of a phone and computer using Bluetooth
False Advertising!. How are you supposed to take your Steam games on the go if you can’t even turn off your pc or go outside the vicinity of the internet connection you’re connected to? At least let us play while the laptop is closed at least! Lame!
Amazing!. After figuring out I needed to match my IP address on my phone to the one my computer was using, this app works flawlessly. Highly recommend you use the steam controller or a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Best app ever, who would have thought I could play fallout 4 on my iPhone. Bravo steam.
Does not work with Big Sur. streaming from my imac is made impossible by the fact Im unable to install the prompted drivers on Big Sur. This app is completely useless. Please fix.

Doesn’t work with Apple computers!!!. Steam link the app installs fine on iOS devices and Apple TV, but you need to run steam on a full fledged computer to work with. Well on macOS computers, steam cannot update steam game pad drivers, and therefore, steam link for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV all won’t work unless your home computer is a windows PC. If you’re a Mac user like me, and I suspect many iPhone users may also be Mac users since they’re both made by Apple, this is extremely disappointing. As best as I can tell this has been a known problem for 4-5 months since time or writing this review. Steam, or Apple, one of you, fix this!!!
Very good just one problem. The only problem I have is that why can’t you just sign in to your steam account to play your games? Like it just seems like a weird choice to have to connect to your pc and be in the same Wi-Fi when you could just sign in and play them? This is a MOBILE APP not a next to your pc app. And yes I know you can connect to your TV but I think my argument still makes sense.
Cool that this exists, but not the best way to play. It's cool that this app exists and shows Steam's commitment to making gaming accessible. For Mac users who want to enjoy their Windows games, it's convenient... but only if you, idk, want to enjoy Windows games from your Mac-only office. It works fine, but the lag is the real killer. Streaming resolution is also pretty bad. Your keyboard and mouse won't work on the Steam Deck and I haven't found a workaround. You'll enjoy your games a lot more if you just play them on a dedicated machine. I think the real issue with the app is the technical limitations. I imagine it's not Steam's fault the lag is so great and the resolution so poor, that's just delay as info passes to and from your gaming machine. All in all, I'll stick to my Steam Deck/Windows PC for gaming. Maybe someday the new toolkit Apple released will bring a future with games that work on Mac, but I'm not holding my breath.
Love the idea, needs a bit of improvement.. Absolutely love the idea of using your phone to play games remotely, it just needs some implement when it comes down to controls as they can sometimes get fairly annoying to use. Maybe an unintended feature, but this app is basically a remote app that allows you to access all the functionalities of your PC by exiting out of the steam full screen launcher and browsing around on your PC as you wish.
Awesome app!. The ability to play games from outside my house has been amazing! Works for non steam games too. Highly recommend a remote access app like teamviewer to you can fix issues that pop up. For example any system message will freeze steam link, or if it doesnt grab the correct window to stream, or to relaunch steam. It has a few bugs but usually runs without issue.
Missing key features and resolutions. The app is fantastic for remotely playing your Steam library, but it’s missing some current iPad features. When playing a game, you can’t set it to the iPad Pro’s native 2160x1620 resolution, and isn’t able to utilize 120hz on any of the 4:3 resolutions. Finally, when loading certain non-Steam games (FFXIV Windows version), you have to Alt-Enter to gain controller support once the game loads. They should fix these launcher based games for remote play, as this isn’t easy on an AppleTV, iPhone, or iPad (sans keyboard).
Works amazing, especially with controller. Absolutely love this app. The fact that I can play all my rpg’s from my phone with or without controller is wonderful (Works great with my 8bitdo controller and phone adaptor). I’m a handheld gamer, and its so great to have a handheld option for the items in my steam library that arent on my Switch. Streaming is great and super clear, experiencing no lag, easy to use app…all in all I’m so happy and very impressed. Thank you!
Obsolete & Useless. Its sad that in 2024 Xbox players can play from the cloud but Steam can’t. Correction they can…well within their limits but they wont because it would compete with Steam Deck. So if we want to play on the go we have this terrible option with awful delay due to it being streamed from the PC versus a more optimized less delayed way of playing on the go from Streaming from the cloud. Will slowly start transitioning gameplay off steam since I can get most everything on the xbox store on PC and stream it from the cloud with Xbox game pass without the need to buy a 500 dollar portable system. Rather spend that money on a console since I already have a PC.
Good with PS4 controller but touch unreliable. Good So this works great with a controller. I’m able to play pretty much anything with controller support over Wi-Fi. It’s kind of amazing how clear and responsive it is, considering. Bad The touch controls overlay is often wonky. Sometimes it appears when I don’t want it, now it’s not appearing when I do want it. I’ve never been able to use the gyroscope, which would make first person shooters playable on an iPad.
Better have good home WiFi. Unless you’re paying for top-tier network services, this link will have super delayed response times. Also, I sometimes leave a rainstorm looping on my PC, and when I turn on the link, I can hear all sound coming from my PC including that rainstorm. Not sure if that can be turned off or not, but kinda bizarre. So basically you’re giving a remote link to your PC, and you can only play the games.
App doesn’t get the love it deserves. This app deserves 5 stars! Everyone who rates it a 1 star is technologically illiterate. It does require some set up but even with 50 mbs download and 9 MBs upload I get 0% input lag when I’m playing Elden Ring! Seems to work beautifully with solo player games. I’ve had issues with multiplayer games but it’s honestly my slower internet speeds.
SteamLink is good.. Valve has delivered decades of good software and has frequently extended support for their own and others' products. SteamLink lets you play remotely and even use controllers remotely on older games which don't normally have controller support (might just be with Valve games). Most of the reviewers having a tough time with it are probably trying to access their home PC over LTE/5G and they should look up Port Forwarding on their Modems as well as their Routers, sometimes those are the same device.
Does the Job but still Flawed. I needed it to stream from my steam deck without too much effort and this does the job. After a little bit of setup on this app, it can wirelessly detect your steam deck and allow you to stream it to your laptop. However, it always goes to full screen mode and there's no option to make it go into windowed mode... which is a problem when you want to stream an individual application to friends on discord. Please, add windowed mode to this app!
Could use some work. Tried some games with the app. Stream quality depends on your internet so your results may vary. Would like to bring up some things like not having Left stick click or right stick click. No d pad either. I could play fallout 4 on my iphone ( super impressed by that fact) but not being able to crouch, sprint, or access my quick slots really hurt the experience. The control layout is less than intuitive. Really works best when games already support and/or play better on an xbox controller. Otherwise not ideal for any other game.
This app is very hard to use and I think develoer should add tutorials when you join the app.. Do you have to use a computer connected to your net work which isn’t easy when you get your computer connected to your Network still doesn’t work so this can use a lot more updates Plus One of my biggest game dreams was in this app but it does not wanna work I cannot sign in show me to give this one star if I could add more stars negative. I’m not happy this is a skim once you buy the game for the first time you want you to do it for the second time so I prefer not to buy a game. Did you available or just making this game so you can just spend money on nothing.
Awesome. I see a lot of people who are disappointed that you have to be on the same network but that was the intent to be able to just chill like upstairs or in another room and access all the games from steam. This allows the buttery smooth connection and very low latency which makes the games playable as opposed to other streaming apps. Maybe in the future they will add the ability to not be on the same network but this is definitely a strong start.
Like Magic. I recently had back surgery and Steam Link gave me the ability to play the games I love while recovering. The streaming technology is truly magical, transporting me through an iPad to the games I love running on my PC. I was shocked several times at how well it worked with controllers, keyboards, and even the Magic Mouse. I can think of dozens of use cases that don’t involve major surgery to appreciate the tech. This is truly fantastic stuff. I pray Steam continues to invest in this life-changing app.
Needs better controller support than it would be perfect. Steam Link needs an option to map controls to controllers and the screen while in the mobile app and have better functioning controller support. Controllers will connect but they won’t work for steam link on mobile very well such as buttons not working or controllers not being able to be usable after showing they are paired with steam link. The biggest problem for me is controller support which is a buggy mess that doesn’t really even function. If it gets the controller support fixed with being able to map buttons in the mobile app this will be a 5 star streaming app for peer to peer.
Better than expected. Play on my 13” iPad Pro M4, 1gb internet. Still get lag every now and then but Ive played at least 30 hours of Ghost of Tsushima on it no problem. I have played outside of network but if the internet isn’t great on both ends the latency is pretty frustrating. Also only played with Xbox one controller which I’ve never had an issue with.
Works wonderfully with my 2020 MBP M1 with one small caveat unrelated to Steam!. This works great with a bluetooth Xbox One S controller. There's very little to no noticeable difference in graphics, rendering, frame rate, or latency. I had issues with this initially when my desktop was using wifi, once I connected it via ethernet all my problems went away. Finally, I can have the best of both worlds.
Great but a few issues. First of all, I am playing on a IPad I tried this on a phone but the screen was to small, they can’t do anything about that so I’m fine with it. This is a amazing app, I was playing Vibrant Venture and it felt like it was a mobile game. There is a bit of input lag but it’s easy to get used to it. It took awhile to get the controls that felt right but once I did I didn’t have to look at what buttons I was pressing. It could use a few improvements but I think it’s a great idea.
Finally.. For many months now, I’ve looked for a solid IOS streaming service. Some were awful quality. Some’s latency was unbearable (way over a second). Many couldn’t work outside of your house. Many couldn’t do many things. This hits just about everything I’d want. My only real complaint is that it doesn’t support connectable keyboards (Think zagg keyboards, for instance). Still an amazing service, with or without it.
Works well!. I was able to stream and play more cozy games onto my iPad with no issue using my strong Wi-Fi and use my pencil as a cursor. The only bug I had was when going into the menu to switch from controller or mouse I would get this awful yellow glitch bar at the top which was fixed when stopping streaming and starting again but if I wanted to change controls it would pop back up again.
Needs work. It needs to fix the lagging issue and have a simple set of buttons it still has some room for improvement a start would be to make a set of basic controls for a mobile game If it is something like gta having a dynamic thum stick or if it is civilization moving your camera with your fingers .tap to left click and double Tap for right click or the other way around those just some ideas And examples for the developers of this app to start they could do better
Steam link to tv. I really love the promise that this offers. I run steam link on my phone and my google tv all via wireless. There are some minor stutters here and there but for the most part it doesn’t impact gameplay that much. Steam will periodically crash on my host machine so not sure if it’s steam/ steam link or the game crashing it but it’ll happen every ten or 11 hours or so. Other than that I’ve had lots of fun playing my steam library throughout the house.
Please fix the iPad magic keyboard scrolling!. This works really well overall, but unfortunately a small but important piece of my setup is broken! I use the magic keyboard with the iPad Pro, and the keyboard and trackpad generally work great EXCEPT two finger scrolling on the trackpad does not translate to a scroll wheel up or down input on the host machine. As far as I can tell, there is no way to scroll with my setup, which is a big deal in many games that have lists, scroll based camera control, and so on. If I use a Bluetooth mouse on the iPad with a scroll wheel, I’m able to scroll… but I really just want my trackpad scrolling to work. Please fix valve!
A little disappointing. This should have been really awsome, i can play all of my steam games on the go?! That sure sounds cool except theres one small thing. You need to be on the network the computer is on a.k.a you can really only use this at your home except what is the point? Why not just use your computer if your already home? Oh and also its pretty buggy it usally just doesnt work and freezes. If i could use this while im on vacation this would be an easy five stars no matter how poorly it worked but beacuse of it only working at your house this thing is useless really just a mildly frustrating novelty.
Exceptional. The app has come a long way. As an owner of the Steam Link hardware, my expectations for the app were pretty high. Upon its launch, the app was ok. The experience, while playable, was not as smooth as the Steam Link, even when matching resolution, quality, encoding, etc. However, now that the app has been out for a while, and has received a few updates, it’s spectacular. Streaming at 4K Beautiful is flawless! I primarily use the app on the Apple TV 4K, and there is no difference in input lag across streaming resolutions, unlike when it first launched. The streaming quality is so good, I play FPS games without any lag issues. Now I only use my Steam Link for the rare occasion I want to use my Steam Controller. If you don’t need mouse/keyboard/Steam Controller support, the app is an awesome alternative. Couch gaming has never looked so good!
Another Way To Kill Time. The app itself functions as it should (at least with the games I’ve tried). Installation and connection process was smooth, simple, and intuitive. I already had my setup according to the “best performance” criteria so I can’t vouch for the stability and speed if a user weren’t to use that, but at the very least I would recommend having your pc connected to your router with an Ethernet cable. Overall, great app and added functionality to Steam. I don’t download much, if any, iPhone games anymore so this allows me to make use of my vast Steam library.
Expectations are the thief of joy. Let’s face it y’all, gaming over a WiFi connection will never be the same as actually sitting in front of your computer and using it. Meaning, you shouldn’t expect to be at your most accurate or most “twitchy” if you’re gaming over WiFi. But if you’re playing things like Crusader Kings 3, PC Building Simulator, or other non eSports games, you’re going to like the convenience of being able to game away from your desktop.
Great APP. It’s a five star APP for sure if you have the network/computer infrastructure. If you don’t, it’s not the fault of the APP you have crappy performance issues. I wish I would have known about this APP earlier. It’s convenient and has amazing performance. I haven’t even had a hiccup of latency with a three year old mesh connected to a five year old cable company modem. Cheers for the development team.
Really good but one small issue. So this app works really well for getting controller support from your apple device to your host machine running steam. I do have one bit of criticism though. When i use the new move and resize features for iPadOS 26 to move the window to the left or right side of the screen, it sends half the window off screen forcing me to have to drag it back, and there is almost no resizing options. I would appreciate being able to make the app smaller. Thank you
USB-C to HDMI output from iPad Pro stopped working. Until recently, I used to be able to mirror my iPad display to my 4K TV using an adapter. When I selected “start playing” it would display the content full screen on the TV. However recently, this just stopped working and when I select “start playing” I get a flicker, on both the iPad and TV and stays on the main Steam Link screen without the content streaming or displaying on the TV at all. Other apps that output video to the TV from IPad still works. Not sure what changed to make this not work all of the sudden.
Not really capable. To start with the app is pretty decent and super easy to set up but the main thing the app is for it doesn’t really do to great at, when you try to play games by streaming it to another device the delay in what your doing is unbearable, for example if your playing a shooter game your aim will be left or right and never centered accuracy wise. For the most part it works but if your playing something that requires you to look around your not going to be able to do much with it. Graphics wise from what your streaming also doesn’t come through as much as someone may like but I mean if you think about it, it’s basically what you’d expect. When streaming your going to get stream lag where it will stop and start again but it doesn’t last more than a second. Sorry this isn’t well written but just thought I’d say these few things Another thing I’ll apologize for is the stars I’m giving this app.
Unplayable. I tried playing on my iPhone, with my Mac hosting. The image quality is fine, but when I tried to play a game remotely it had some issues that made the game unplayable: 1. The on-screen keyboard doesn’t have an escape key, which is required for the game I tried (Finding Paradise). 2. I installed the required drivers on my Mac and rebooted, but it still *always* plays the sound on my Mac, and *never* plays sound on my iPhone. Checking or unchecking the “mute host” option doesn’t do anything for me. Without sound there’s little incentive to play. I can’t find a way to request that it uninstall or reinstall the drivers it installed, which is scary.
Very Thought Out. Got the app to see if I can control my PC with my iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard and it freaking worked! Steam allows my PC to read the keyboard’s inputs with, according to the app, a “fair connection” level. They even allow you to disable the video stream. They even enabled gyro controls with the iPad. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! This is very well thought out and I’m just scratching the surface with the features. The trackpad on the Magic Keyboard just shoots the mouse into the top left corner. A mouse connected directly to my PC did the trick. Thanks Valve!
Great when it works. Currently on IOS 13.3.1 and the lastest version of this app. When i go to open it, the splash screens appears for half second and then closes. I haven’t used the app in a few days. Also worth noting the app does not appear in my settings at all, do not know if it shouldn’t or not but just thought i’d mention. Idk if this is because of an update on IOS end or Valves end but if this could be resolved soon that would be great.
Love this so much. Makes all my favorite steam games mobile games. Got my iPad and my Bluetooth GameCube controller. I am so set. AND when you’re out of town, If you’re cool with leaving your PC running with steam open, you can play anywhere around the world all you need is WiFi. Now.. you do need a GOOOD connection otherwise the latency will make most games unplayable.
Excellent Application. Always been a big fan of Steam Link on all devices. I would actually do 4 stars, because Moonlight has a little less latency, but I feel like I need to do something to drown out all of the completely tech illiterate reviews on here. Most of the one start reviews are from people who have no idea what this is for or how it works. Why are you people leaving one star reviews if you don't know what you're talking about??
Huge disappointment. This is the least user friendly gaming platform we have ever encountered. The app is horrible. It should be so much more straight forward to log into our steam account and be able to play on mobile devices. Countless other platforms have mastered being a computer based program with app and mobile capability but steam's system is archaic. We're no longer using the app or the computer platform. The app itself needs so much prep and linking to computers, which completely defeats the purpose of using the app to begin with. Not worth the effort given the millions of games out there that allow for mobile usage in a much more streamline process.
Absolutely hopeless over wi-fi. The app recommends a wired connection, which is hilarious for iOS devices that have no Ethernet port. As it is, the input lag is so bad as to render all but the most simple, basic, turn-based games completely unplayable. In a more action-oriented game, there is almost a full second delay between pressing a button and anything happening, which is well outside of what I would consider acceptable, or even tolerable. BTW, it’s actually *worse* on the Steam Link device than it is on AppleTV. I really appreciate Steam’s efforts in giving us new ways to play our games, but this solution has come out of the oven well before it’s cooked.
Stream modded games, movies, scripting tools. Thanks to Valve I can not only play modded New Vegas anywhere in the world. I can also write my scripts for it. Go browse big boy browser mode on the internet. Maybe I’ll watch a good ol downloaded movie on my own private streaming service. You’ve single handily transformed my desktop into an AIO personal server with 1 app apiece (Steam PC, Steam Link). Finally a good reason to have fiber internet. A good productive use of modern technology. I’ve been attempting something using different apps since 2011. Steam link has its issues don’t get me wrong, but it’s by far the best out there even among some of the paid services I’ve tried. It’s good just get it already. Finally got around to saying thank you.
Finally!. Been wanting a Steam Link app for macOS for SO long and now it's finally here! If all I want to do is stream my gaming PC to my MBP, I don't really need to install the full blown Steam and that's where this lightweight and easily installed/uninstalled app fits in perfectly... it works just like the Steam Link app on iOS, tvOS, etc... simple and does the job. THANK YOU, VALVE! Now the icing on the cake is if they would put a version on the Microsoft Store for low powered Surface devices where you just want to Stream Steam and not install the whole client
Great idea. I love this idea the only thing that it’s lacking is most games you need a controller for and when your in the game on your phone the buttons go way and the there’s no joysticks when your trying to play I would really like to see that get added so you can actually play but other than that it’s a great idea
Use the right equipment. Hard wire your computer to your wireless router via Ethernet cable. Connect to your WiFi’s 5 GHz band. (Get a powerful enough wireless router that your other devices/traffic won’t slow it down.) Use a newer iPhone or iPad. (3+ yrs old is a gamble.) Use an Xbox One S controller. (Get an Xbox phone mount if you like.) 9 times out of 10, the issue is going to be your equipment and not the app. You’re welcome :-)
Great, but a major glitch. This is fantastic, you can play most likely anything from your PC (Including non-mobile games) but there is a caveat: Controls keep resetting to Default. This is Really annoying to me when i have the controls in another action set and action layer and don’t want to put it all in default. This started to happen when i was using two streaming devices at once, and still continued to happen. If valve or anyone has a fix please let me know.
It’s Steam link not Computer link. Annoyed because this says this is “Steam” link, yet it’s basically your entire computer screen itself being streamed to your device. Could be cool in some cases, however it’s less cool when someone else is trying to play a game on the computer that isn’t related to and doesn’t need Steam to run whatsoever while you’re trying to play using this app and it streams their game to your device instead of just the Steam window. Incredibly annoying.
