Fun and addicting. I have this on a few platforms. They run great on them. This one it runs oh kay. One thing they should put in the settings is away to tone down the graphics. Low, Medium or High. It could make the experience bit smoother. Another is add a zoom function or allow us to scale the windows a bit big so it’s easier to read. Not going to give this a low star. I understand the reason for the changes and the lag performances. Wish the DLC was free. But it’s away they make money.

No fun and very tedious. This game is so confusing and wasn't any fun at all. There's way too much to learn, the screen is very cluttered and it was so tedious. Also, you can't stack units to attack so if there's a coastal city it's nearly impossible to capture a city, from my experience. I sat there for 15 min trying to take a city, turn after turn, bombarding, shooting, while referencing strategy guides on how to do it, but I never could. Why do devs think more complex is better? I guess I just wish for the original Civ 1 or 2 game to get remade with no changes to come out on the iPad.

Completely Broken on iOS 17.4. The game has always had its quirks and definitely feels like it isn’t given a lot of love compared to the desktop experience, but it’s fun being able to play on the iPad and sometimes a lot easier to pick up than sitting down at my computer. That all changed when I updated to iPadOS 17.4. Now the game won’t even start. This is what developer betas of the operating systems are for… so you can find the bugs and fix them before the general release. Would love to bump my rating up, but the game has to at least launch instead of crashing on the loading screen.

Non-functioning multiplayer. Don’t buy this game unless you plan to only play single player. Download POLYTOPIA instead. At least those developers care about providing an enjoyable experience. If you DO choose to download Civ 6, know that in order to play by cloud, you HAVE to be signed in to 2K servers, but 95% of the time their servers won’t allow you to connect. The solution? Turn off your VPN. Go to your phone settings. Sign out of Gamecenter. Stop syncing cloud drive. Then turn off Civ 6 sync. Open game. Close out of game. Go back to settings and enable gamecenter. Enable cloud drive. Enable Civ 6 sync. If you did all of that, you have an ~25% chance of connecting to 2K… Think that’s annoying? They completely abandoned the app on the Google Play Store and charge even more for it. It’s advertised that you can play by cloud cross platform with other mobile users, except that’s a complete lie. Excited to play DLC from your computer? Too bad! You have to repurchase all of that DLC for mobile. The ONLY reason I’m giving this two stars is because single player is functional. That’s it. This whole ordeal has been extremely disappointing. I beg you. Save your money.

Best Game on iPad. Civ VI is hands down my favorite game to play on iPad. I prefer it to the desktop version due to the smart interface provided by using your fingers to direct units and the ability to play anywhere - plane, bed, car, etc. I would not recommend playing this on an iPhone. This game is designed for play on a larger screen - iPad. I’d love to see how this game works on the new Apple Vision Pro headset.

Kind of turns you off of the series. I paid the $7.99 for the base game but won’t be buying any additional content. I will say it is a very good port of the game and IS a lot of fun but… I have been playing Civilization games since the early 90’s (I still remember the big book you had to used to verify your right to rule every so often in the first version) and on Steam, I have somewhere around 1000 hours of just Civ 6, across all DLC and base game. When I wrote a rough draft of this review, you could get Civ 6 and all DLC from the Steam Summer Sale for less than $50. You couldn’t do that with the mobile version. As much as I’d love to be able to play the full game (which apparently the developers couldn’t be bothered to release at once, instead making this one of the single most expensive games in history, and probably the most expensive outside of The Sims) after paying for virtually every single game in this series for more than 30 years, I cannot imagine any scenario where I buy a game and all of its “expansions” more than once. No matter how well the game actually plays, predatory business practices will always taint the experience. Point in fact, I doubt I’ll buy Civ 7 when it comes out. Why would I? They’ll just release dozens of other “expansions” for $20-$40 a piece. I thought I aged out of gaming when really I just aged out of wasting money.

Does not run reliably. When the app loads and works properly the game is fantastic. There’s even a way to run some light mods by placing them in the games install folder. The problem is that the game just straight up won’t launch 90% of the time. If reinstalling it could fix the issue it wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but to reinstall it you end up losing your saves most of the time. DLC purchases get lost and have to be restored regularly as well. All in all this iOS port is a buggy mess that you should probably stay away from. It’s a shame, because when it works it has all the great Civilization gameplay we are used to on pc with fairly impressive graphics as well. The problem is it doesn’t work. iPhone Xs Max and iPhone 15 Pro Max for reference.

Really poor support. The game is pretty well implemented, and a joy to play with touch controls on a tablet when it’s working. It’s a shame it is so poorly supported though. It’s currently unplayable due to the recent iOS update, and this is far from the first time this has happened. Aspyr is incredibly slow to address these issues, and their communication on when to expect a fix is non-existent. For the price this game demands, I would really hope for much better support. I really wish this game could be handed over to a company that actually cares.

Display bug of top-left status bar on iPad. Sometimes, the top-left status bar (where tech tree and culture tree set) show in wrong place, a little higher than usual, which will shade the other upper most status bar. Besides, please consider support show help document when click on any tech/culture tree item using iPad, like iPhone. Device: iPad Air 5 OS: iPadOS 17.2

Most bugs fixed, but most recent update made a new one. The game has been improved dramatically since it’s initial release all those years ago. I remember back when it felt like the devs took Civ 5, changed the graphics, removed a bunch of units, and called it a new game. Since then, man at arms, trebuchets, courser, cuirassers, line infantry, and other units have been added making the game feel like a new game rather than a not as good version of 5. I remember when the game would crash constantly. That got fixed a while back. I remember the ridiculous pace at which the AI used to advance through the tech tree, even on settler difficulty. They seem to have been toned down. While the game does still crash and occasionally will not load a previous save, that is quite rare. However, the latest update seems to have created a bug that has muted the music of any Civ that got a new leader/persona in this new update. England, no music. Germany, completely silent. Norway, all quiet. Mali, also silent. Absolutely no music plays for these nations no matter which leader/persona you play as. While it’s not game breaking, it’s jarring. The music is what draws me into the game and keeps me playing for longer.

Abnormal exit bug. After spending $60 upon release and generally championing this game, I can no longer do so. An “abnormal exit bug” displays upon startup rendering the game unplayable. It is a well known bug and apparently the dev’s don’t seem to care. Similarly, I’m having an issue with Bloodstained:ROTN where the dev’s have completely abandoned the game making it unplayable for the last 2 years. If this is how developers are going to treat AAA titles on iOS, than I think I would rather invest in NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and have access to almost my entire Steam library, streaming to my iPad, as opposed to developers making a cash grab with iOS and then not supporting their app several years later.

Good but needs an update. The game is very good but I think there should be some updates. First of all there should be the ability to change the amount of turns after you have begun playing. The same should apply to changing the civ. But most importantly ROMANIA SHOULD BE A NEW CIV. It’s leader would be Mihai or Michael the brave. The special unit would be the Stone troops as well as the boyar corp. Mihai’s ability would be + 15 combat strength when fighting civs in a different era. The stone troops ability would be +10 strength when fighting a liberation war. Overall though Civ six is a very good game.

Most bugs fixed! Thank you devs. Game is flowing great now after the last update with none of the weird UI bugs that were there previously. Sometimes the game does slow down in the later game when there’s a lot going on, and getting to the next turn takes a while. The app also still crashes and closes sometimes, but it’s rare and not a huge deal thanks to auto save. I’m using an iPhone 11 so maybe performance is better on a newer device. ONE FIX that I would appreciate as someone that loves to use map tacks… currently if you put more than three or so down the tacks tab gets too crowded to hit the “add tack” button. I don’t know exactly how you would fix this with the small interface but it would be a great improvement. Thanks!

Fixed for now. App started loading for now. Hope they keep up with new device and OS updates. BELOW IS A PREVIOUS REVIEW THAT NO LONGER APPLIES. KEPT FOR TRANSPARENCY. The game does not load on iPhone 15/pro/pro max devices. You can’t even get past the loading still screen. No animations. No music. Nothing about the app works besides that it takes up space on the device. DO NOT PURCHASE until Reddit confirms a fix.

AAA, but not working on iPhone 15 Pro max. A fantastic game. I like to set the civilizations to where they historically come from on the giant earth map. That way I get more history knowledge of each countries, advantages, and disadvantages in the past. I particularly love that it can save to the cloud so I can hop back-and-forth between my iPhone and my iPad. Unfortunately, It cannot play an iPhone 15 Pro max. Please fix this bug where it freezes on the opening screen. It’s been too long.

Worth every penny only people that play PC don't like it. This game is perfect especially for being on a phone games are kind of just beginning to start to get played on phones that are of this magnitude and unless you've played the PC version from what you will love it most the hate comes from people that played PC and are expecting this game in your pocket to be able to be the exact same or better

Wish it was less expensive :(. I looove being able to play this game on my ipad. It’s legit amazing. The game itself? 10/10 all the way. However I’ve bought these expansions on my computer already and it just feels like soooo much money to have to buy them again. It would be better if some of them were bundled or just a LITTLe less expensive. The only other issue I have is that sometimes clicks with the apple pencil don’t register or aren’t accurate.

Too many BIG bugs as of December update. EDIT: does this update fix the Loyalty Screen issue? Because why bother to get halfway into a game with Eleanor for it to stop working? Reported over and over. It’s not mentioned. Civ 6 is buggy on all platforms, but I was playing it happily on iPad until the last update in mid December. As others have noted, computer parameter language is shot all through the game, blocking needed information. Even more frustrating than that, before turn 200 my Loyalty lens stops working, making it impossible to play a loyalty flipping game. I love this game, but I’m skeptical of giving Firaxis more money for Civ 7 when they can’t be arsed to fix Civ 6 (some bugs have been ongoing for years) which I’ve bought every DLC for.

Paid for gathering storm but it won’t load and support won’t help. Bought this base app years ago, and was pleasantly surprised how well it worked on iPhone. Bought the gathering storm expansion as well. At some point I hadn’t played the game in 30 days so my phone off loaded it for the space. I cleared space, re-downloaded it, but it won’t re-download the G&S expansion I paid for. It gets stuck on either 0% downloaded or download pending. I’ve reached out to support multiple times and they just give me the same FAQ steps that do not work and they don’t actually troubleshoot to help me and have rejected my requests for a refund Highly discourage anyone to buy from this company

DEV’S LISTEN PLEASE!. I have an iPhone 14 Pro and I really think this game would get better with the implementation of a few new things such as a battery life saving mode that changes graphics setting as low as possible (and other settings), and the exact opposite for newer devices allowing us to upgrade graphics and draw battery as we please. Please just unlock the whole thing I have paid over 100$ on just this version and platform much less my pc anthology. Please I don’t really care about the strategic view and stuff but if you’re not gonna do that just at least let do ultra performance mode and a power saving mode please and maybe custom too just unlock the thing please. Some devices will handle and others won’t it’s simple.

Epic game that you can’t play at all. (Update 03JAN24) they finally fixed the game so that it is now playable, but I can’t help wonder how much longer before something else happens that renders the game unplayable yet again. Updated to give it 3 of 5 stars just because of the hassle. On 05OCT2023 Aspyr acknowledged on their website that the game was unable to proceed past the loading screen for iPhones. It’s nearly Christmas and there has been no change to the website or the playability of the game. Prior to that I’d give it 5/5 stars, but now I won’t spend a dime on any other civilization games until this is fixed.

The king is no longer dead!. Well after several months of this game not working (freezing on the intro screen) for me on the new iPhone, the update released today fixed it and again - the greatest iOS strategy game by a mile is back up and running. You can list all its faults, but you can not list me something better. The best portable strategy experience.

A Few Bugs, Good Game!. I Honestly Dont Get The One Stars. To Be Honest, The Most Major Issue I Have Had So Far Is This: When I Routed DLC Through My Father, (Or He Bought The Same DLC Pack Again, I Really Dont Know) Some In The Pack Didnt Make It Over To My Account, So We Cant Play Together. Or So I Thought, But Thankfully Theres A Free DLC For That. More Issues, I Really Dont Know. The Game Is Overall Great! The One Star Guys Are Most Likely People Annoyed By The Fact That Theres 100 Seprate DLC’s, DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE FULL GAME? Wow. I Mean, I Get It, But The Only Thing I Bought Is The Gathering Storm Expansion. Worked Fine, And It Has Rise And Fall And Civ Packs In It. I Have Not Bought Anything Else And Its Great! Whats With All The One Stars? Isolated Incidents People Think Isnt?

5 star game but…. Amazing game and translates very well from the PC variant. Not many bugs and visuals are great however… DLC IS TOO EXPENSIVE THIS IS NOT THE PC VERSION. If you own a computer that can run the Civ just buy that version with the DLC. The mobile version is still great without it, but seeing that the pocket edition does go everywhere with you it would be nice to have the DLC. But $20 and $30 is criminal and needs to be reduced. Also idk why you cant link your 2K account (on iPhone), but apparently this has been an issue for a long time.

It’s a port…but a good one. All the haters…why? It’s ON AN IPAD. As far as ports go, it’s dang good. It lacks the player tweaks that the pc version has but it still provides endless hours of fun gameplay. Do I love it like the pc original? Of course not. But it is a fine substitute when you don’t have access to the original. The add-ons are way too pricey but considering the devs I’m not shocked. All-in-all, it’s worth it for the base game. Paying for the extras at the current prices, probably not.

Good, but no strategic view. Civ 6 is a really fun game if you ask me, and if you don’t own any other devices to play it on this one can be good, but it isn’t great. Many features seem to be very difficult to view compared to the PC version, it doesn’t run great, but my biggest gripe is with no strategic view. This feature seem to be made for mobile and yet it isn’t even a present feature on most mobile devices, i have an iphone 13 and i still don’t have access to strategic view. It was how i imagined myself playing on mobile and a large reason of why i purchased it in the first place, so imagine my confusion and disappointment when i discovered that it was one of the only features that was completely absent. It just makes no sense, did the devs just get tired of updating it? Strategic view should have been an absolute win for the mobile version of the game, but instead i am forced to watch my troops lag every time i move them.

Must love strategy!!!. This is my favorite game!!! It is not for everyone though. I would recommend trying CivRev2 before this one. If after playing this you think to your self “cool game but I wish it could be 10X more complicated and take way longer to finish a game” then this game is for you. If so there are a few things to know. For one you need to play on a tablet or the best phone it is a BIG game and takes a lot of processing power. I have the newest iPhone and can only play tiny or small maps, anything bigger and it crashes. It is really meant for a tablet or computer. For another it usually takes me a week or more to play through one game. If you don’t like huge maps with a million different pieces to pay attention to and an infinite number of paths to victory or defeat then move along. However if you thin I wish Chess, Go, Risk, Pandemic, the Sims, Age of Empires and Warcraft (the first 3 non of that MMO stuff) would have a test tube supper baby then this game is for you.

Failure To Launch. I have been a civilization fan since the 90’s, but I am really frustrated with the companies approach to civilization on Apple. Mainly that it is EXTREMELY expensive. It is a high quality game with a lot of features and complexity, but they still charge too much. Especially when I have paid $60 to play it on my iPad and have not been able to open it for months due to a start up error. They know about it, but just aren’t doing anything about it. If you are going to charge premium prices for a game you need to have frequent updates to keep it running smoothly, like other premium games. It has been 3 months since the last iOS update. That is unacceptable. Even free games have more frequent updates than that. At this rate I may be done paying for Civilization games.

Don’t believe the bad reviews. I’ve had this game for years on multiple devices. Its just so large and has so many variables that occasionally you accidentally trick the system into not being able to make a move, its happened twice to me on this platform (IPad). Other than this, I’ve had very little trouble with this app other than having to reinstall it today when I went to play it again. I think the Civ crew does a great job of maintaining such a massive game. Not sure why this has 2.4 stars

Heartbroken edited review. Review edit: march/2022 I enjoyed the game but I can no longer recommend. Tried to download frontier pass & it stalls on download at 80% if it even starts to download. Restore purchase or any other button doesn’t help. Other DLCs downloaded fine when I purchased them. Tried the developers methods of fixes. None worked. Finally very reluctantly tried their final fix of deleting & redownloading. Instead I lost ALL downloads & they all stall. Hoping for a fix soon but I may demand a refund at this point.

Have faith, they’ll fix it in their own time. Game works better than I ever expected on a PHONE. The only thing I need fixed is the music player. When I first played over a year ago, I was amazed at the constant and surprisingly good cultural music that developed throughout a play through. More recently, I mostly hear wind in game. I’ve literally created games just to hear certain songs together… favorites are Shaka, Māori, Poundmaker, Congo, Ethiopia, and I sometimes just hook it up in the car to listen as I drive 🤷🏻‍♂️

Over a month and still unplayable. I love this game and play primarily on my PC, but it’s nice to play in the phone for portability. I finally paid the big bucks for the pass even though I’ve poured over 150 into the iOS version already. That same night I updated to iOS 17.4. It immediately broke the game. Every other app works. I opened a ticket and followed forums for the last month. I finally gave up and got a refund on the dlc I just bought. I’m really considering checking with Apple for a refund for everything since it is all unplayable. Sad that such a fun cash cow doesn’t have the backing of a developer team.

Great Game; Embarrassing Bugs. I love this game, and mobile is the most convenient way for me to play by far. On iPhone 13, the game can last quite awhile after switching to a new tab. I appreciate the pricing model of playing what is essentially a demo of the game before buying it, and for the content I think it is worth it. Having one if the greatest and most expansive 4X games so easily accessible is nothing short of amazing.

Not understanding the 1 Stars. I was really hesitant on downloading because of the low reviews. Got a apple gift card a month ago and paid the $10. And all I have to say What on earth do y’all expect?!?? This game is literally the same thing as on Console/PC. Having this on my phone is even better because I can save a game to the cloud and pick back up on console if I wanted to. Playing this the last few weeks has been a blast. Phone does get hot and slows down in late turns, but it does that on more powerful devices as well sometimes. Highly recommend if you like Civ and just wanting something while away from home.

All of civilization, on an iPad. NOTE: THE GAME DOES NOT WORK WITH iPadOS 17.4. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNTIL AN UPDATE IS RELEASED. Look, either you like Civilization or you don’t: maybe you think it peaked with Civ IV, maybe V was your game, but either way: this is the real deal, the full on game, nothing held back, all on an iPad. If you want to be Julius Caesar and beat up on Queen Victoria, here is your chance! It’s big, and takes a while to load, but it has everything you want, all on a portable device. Sure, the AI is not the best and some of the game can be frustrating, but it’s Civ, you already knew that.

Literally unplayable. I cannot play the game. I have an iPad Pro, 12.9 inch, 6th generation, fully updated software, all sooped up with the highest specs, so that I can play Civilization 6 with ease…. And it literally does not allow me to play. I have all the DLCs. They are thieves and I hope more customers give these people one star. What a disgrace to the franchise. Criminal behavior by upper management who make the hiring decisions that affect product development so adversely that a well established franchise like Sid’s gets caught with their pants down on the iPad version of the game. How is this unplayable? I paid over a 100 dollars for the iPad version with all the DLCs. Unacceptable!!!!!

Frustrating waste of time & money (bug or ux?? IDK). I have been a fan ever since the very first version of this game. But Civ 6 is the death of this franchise. I regularly play Civ 6 on Deity (the highest difficulty level). I tolerate the fact that they have enough to buy used it for the iPhone because at least it’s better than the previous (embarrassingly childish) iPhone version of this game. I have researched the rules regarding unit upgrades at length. And I have had success in many cases, but not this one. After all of my effort, I still have no idea whether the inability to upgrade from Swordsman to Berserker is a bug or a feature. Yes, I have more iron than I need to accomplish this upgrade. Yes, I am in friendly territory. Yes, I have encampments and barracks. Yes, I have plenty of gold. If this is a feature and not a bug, they need to make it obvious why upgrading isn’t possible. Make the upgrade button visible (grayed-out) with a message telling us why we can’t do what we want. If this is a bug, then it’s a sad day for Civ fans. I have loved this game for my entire adult life. But I am sadly deleting it — I have lost all faith in this franchise.

Why is ANY Sid Mier Civ. Game not rated 5 stars. I saw that this was only rated 2.7, and I had to say something. I first discovered civilization 4, when a friend gave me a desktop computer with it on there. Then 5, the one where you colonize a planet, and now, number six. although much like destiny two they took a perfect thing and added a bit too much. if I were to have any complaints at all.

(FIXED) Won’t load on IPhone 15 Pro. It just hangs at the title loading screen. Phone gets very warm after a few minutes and followed by the app crashing. Please fix, was very much looking forward to playing on the new phones. Edit: Why is an unplayable game still even listed on the AppStore? It’s been broke for a few weeks now. EDIT 11/29: STILL UNPLAYABLE. Devs have FAILED at supporting & maintaining the players/community that spent hard earned money loving this game. Not even a simple message to indicate this is even being worked on. UPDATE: the new patch has finally allowed the 15 to get past the loading screen! While it was frustrating I definitely appreciate the devs working towards a fix, thank you!

Good port. I’ve been a fan of the Civ series for years and loved this game as well. I bought the iPadOS port for when I’m on the go. Yes the PC version is easier to use but on the go this works great. I bought both gathering storm and rise and fall. The game plays exactly like on a PC. There are a few difficult things like clicking a ranged attack for city defense but it’s hard to fit so much info on a screen this size. Overall I think this is a great port and definitely worth the money if you’re an avid Civ player.

Amazing Game. I think all of you are just comparing this game to the P.C. version. I must ask why? This game, if you do not compare it to other versions of it, is amazing. It is very addictive and for me it does not have any bugs, which I feel is good for a 6 year old iPad. This game is so fun and everyone should play it. It is great for airplane flights where you will get sucked in the game. Thank you for taking the time to read this review for a ten-year-old boy!

Not being updated. Had the iPhone 12 Pro and enjoyed playing Civ 6 .I recently bought the iPhone 15 pro max and tried to play the game and it will not load it sits on load screen until It shuts its self down. Notified Aspyr over a month ago so they are aware of it and they are not talking about it. If apple wants to get into gaming arena as they talked about in there iPhone 15 presentation they are going to have to do better then what they have been on the gaming side because right now they can’t compete and if this shows anything they never will.

Terribly Design. The AI in this game are so unpredictably random. Civilizations that you appear to have good relations with will abruptly declare a war against you. They also receive advancements that aren’t given to human players (i.e., wonder construction, barbarian overpopulation) - the game appears to be programmed for players to not do anything but engage in combat. There is no historical value included in this game. If you’d like to attempt historical gameplay, good luck. You cannot complete several wonders in their historic Civ, even on the True Start Map (i.e., England) I could continue this rant but I’ve wasted too much time on this game already. Overall, the programming of this game isn’t worth the purchasing cost or frustration.

Tragically buggy. I took a stab at playing this game and had to quit. Could not save to my device so just exited the game. Now I cannot get past the splash screen at the beginning of the game which reads civilization VI. Nothing happens after this screen. It no longer plays on my device. It generally seemed to play ok initially apart from this except for when you want to build a district. Each district benefit from specific kinds of resources and you must zoom in to see if the land you are considering is adequate. When doing so, the game will wantonly throw down your district in a location you did not request against your consent. This is sadly irreversible, due to some unfortunate programming. Any game of this nature would require confirmation to establish if you want your district in a given location but this one will plow up your luxury resources of its own accord, ostensibly because you looked at the game askance. As well you should, dear gamer. As well you should.

Great port, but. Update: Game crashes on launch. Please update! So glad this is the real deal, I’ve been playing since the original and this is already my favorite iPad game ever (good bye free time!) BUT! I like to play long games with huge maps, and this game is almost unplayable on large maps. I have high hopes it will get there but only the die hard players will play on these maps. I’m talking 2 - 5 minutes per turn, after you’ve moved. And there are 1500 turns! I guess they really want you to feel like millenniums are dragging by!

Not Working?. LOVE this game… PC and iOS versions. (Long time Sid Meier & Civ fanatic.) But, ever since I downloaded iOS 17, I haven’t been able to play. Anyone else having these issues? Will definitely change my rating to a five star once I am able to play again. But, right now it’s just an icon that opens up to a beautiful splash screen of Atlas that I paid $30 for back in the day, so I have to rate it as a one star. 😕

Overpriced considering lack of care in this platform.. This game runs at a ridiculously low frame rate and looks very bad compared to the console/PC versions. Basically they built it for a very old iPad at the time of release and never bothered to update assets or even unlock the pitiful frame rate. This is absolutely not worth the money until they put the bare minimum quality of life into it. I am saying this as someone who loves the game in PC and has played countless hours. Very disappointing for me.

It works great, until not at all. Right now there is a bug floating around called abnormal exit, this stops your game from launching functionally making the game completely unplayable. There is currently no fix for this bug on iOS 17.4, and the bug persists through re-downloads and system restarts. If your devices copy of civ happens to get this bug, you essentially loose the ability to run civ on that device. There is currently no roadmap or eta on when this problem will be fixed, however they are aware of its existence. Civ is a great game and worth downloading, I might even do it if I knew I was gunna get the bug, money would be worth it. I’m just sad I don’t get to play civ.

Great Game but some serious bugs - Updated. In the past several months my 2k account keeps getting disconnected and several of my hall of fame achievements keep disappearing. Since the latest DLC the game is broken with lots of serious bugs. Some modern units don’t heal. Can’t read the game during trade and voting b/c LOC file name issue all over the game. Game is a mess on ipad right now and nearly unplayable. I love this franchise so much but these glaring problems are making it game unplayable. It’s been long enough. Update the game and fix these bugs! UPDATE — Game was “fixed” but hall of fame achievements keep disappearing. This is about the third time I’ve lost half my achievements. Seems like every time there is any update you’ll loose your achievements, which makes trying to earn them pointless. I’ve loved this franchise for years. It’s disappointing this port to iPad is so buggy lately.

Honest review Keeping it short.. I love civ 6 On IOS it’s very nice, if your looking to buy this game in 2023 I think it’s worth it. The DLC is expensive but gives you more opportunity and hours of play. This game does have some issues with Purchasing The downloadable context sometimes it doesn’t even install. You can try to reinstall but it doesn’t work, say goodbye to whatever DLC you had. Overall it does play smooth sometimes it crashes when playing long but it always loads up fast and every gameplay feels fresh and brand new.

Startup Glitch Causing Game to Not Work. Unfortunately it seems if you swipe apps during start up it creates an unfixable glitch. Over and over I have tried deleting the app and redownloading restarting my phone but nothing works. Many people have this same issue.

Disappearing features. The game and game play is beautiful and runs just as smooth on my iPad as my i9 desktop. But … multiplayer has disappeared…. Red death scenario … leader/nations have disappeared from earlier releases. I paid for features that have gone. Love it. I absolutely love this game and think its terrific, the only thing I wish I could configure are the graphics, I wish I could play with more clarity. At least not I have not figured out how to. If I have to plug it in to charge it, I don’t mind doing so for the extra clarity.

LAN multiplayer broken. When attempting to start a multiplayer LAN game, nothing happens when you push the ‘Create Game’ button - so there is no way to start a lobby. Looking at the forums and reddit, it looks like this bug has been known about for at least a year, and affects all users on IOS. The developers are still advertising the game as having LAN multiplayer, when it in fact does not on this platform.

Fun game with flaws. From the first stirrings……. God my eyes roll whenever this stupid diatribe starts every time I start or load a game. Most games let you skip this, but know you have a super clunky game that has a super long load time even on an M1 iPad. Seriously you need to change this up, The last thing I want to hear is the same poorly written text repeated over ad nauseam. The interface is cluttered and awful. I use a 15 inch iPad and still there are overlaps of information, pop-ups that block, you name it. Did you pay a preschool UI designer?? It would be really nice to be able to scale the maps, I like things small. Strategy games such as Panzer General can do this, why the clunky scale when you know it is not just 8 year olds playing your games. Good game mechanics, terrible interface. Worth the money, yeh if you squint your eyes and turn down the volume.

Unplayable. Seriously? Still haven’t fixed the map tacks issue. It must be over 2 years if no longer. Map tacks list is no longer fixed in place and bleeds off screen so you can add more than 3 tacks. Unplayable as you are unable to plan out your strategy for the various tiles.

Don’t buy today. iOS 17.4 has broken it.. I’m updating an old review. Civ on mobile is pretty good. I’ve run it on two prior iPads, at least in the early game eras. One was a bog standard iPad around the time Civ was released. Here we are seven or so years later, and the devs have probably moved on to the next Civ iteration. I have bought a new M2 iPad Pro (don’t tell anyone) in part to run this puppy and bang… won’t even load. When they do fix it (I assume they will, right?) I would heartily recommend given your mobile device is reasonably tricked out.

EXACTLY like the pc game. People say the company is money hungry when in fact on PC it 60AUD. It’s a bargain and although the text is a bit small you can play the game anywhere and the performance is good. One thing is moving troops across the map is a bit difficult as it sometimes deselects the units.

Was great, getting less reliable - currently unplayable on 17.4. There is a great effort by the producers to turn out new content with interesting gameplay, and that is fantastic, but there are so many bugs turning up. The fact that iOS broke the game both in beta and in GA version of 17.4 makes me think they're Aspyr are not prepared to support their games for the long haul.

Great convert from PC. Game works great on iPhone, they recently added some interface improvements which made it better. Pretty hefty drain on the battery and of course I’d like to only pay for the game once on PC but it’s still awesome having it available on my iPhone

Non functional. Game is completely nonfunctional on current iOS version. Four requests for support have been met with no response whatsoever. This has been going on for months now.

Good Game, ruinously expensive. I enjoy Civ6 a lot. It’s the full game and it’s quite an engaging and fun experience . It is however marred by its ridiculous expansion pricing model that makes it almost impossible to justify continued investment. The base game while enjoyable does feel barebones in terms of mechanics and despite being recommended Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm I can’t justify the more than $100 it would take to purchase these. Severe need for repricing as these DLC costs make no sense.

Saves don’t sync between iPhone and iPad. Great game but sadly save games don’t sync across iCloud or the 2k account linking so you can’t play the same saves between your iPhone and iPad. Aspyr not fixing long standing bug.. Game is unplayable on iOS 17.4. The bug has been outstanding for a few months and it doesn’t seem to be prioritized at Aspyr. Otherwise a great turn-based strategy game.

Doesn’t work on iPhone 15. Multiple users reported that it was stuck on loading screen. Over a month later with no fix.

Developer Seems to Not Care. The app has been broken on iOS 17.4 for over a month now. Aspyr has posted about it on their support website, but there have been no updates. When you spend quite a bit on an iOS app, you expect it to work. I'm very disappointed in the lack of support for their app.

Fix the issue. I have been excited to play Civ 6 on my iPhone 15 pro max, I have hundreds of hours playing on my MacBook Pro. I download this game over a month ago and yet it is still not working. Its freezing at the may splash screen and then after a few minutes force quits itself. I have written several reports regarding this as well as many others who are in the same boat as myself. How long do we need to wait before it will be corrected. Will change my review once I can actually play the game on my phone.

CIV VI lost the plot. Districts are lame. Game mechanics just aren’t that great for military strategies. It too tedious without more automation options. I don’t want to command every builder and constantly be babysitting each city. Finding resources. Researching tech. Deploying attack strategies.

Just One Bug. Probably the best gaming experience I’ve ever had on iPhone, or from any mobile game at all. It’s beautiful, it’s easy to navigate, it’s responsive and it’s well worth every penny. I love the long stand offs against my opponent, fending off every battle and making temporary peace just so I can work my way up to thermonuclear weapons and...well it’s all hell fire from there. One thing though...one very important fix that NEEDS to be made. As I said, I enjoy using the nuclear option. It’s just that it also nukes my game in the process. I of course want to witness the destructive power of the atom in all its classic civilization style glory. But if my camera is aimed at the event, it freezes. And boom, done, that’s it. Game frozen and I have to close the entire app and go back to the save, use the nuke again except this time I can’t watch the city burn to a crisp. This also happens when attack enemy units that carry nuclear weapons, and at that point there isn’t enough time between pressing attack and it actually happening for me to move the camera so as not to crash the game. Please please PLEASE fix this. This is a game breaking bug for me, this ruins the whole experience of the game, and this is probably my favorite strategy game of all time. Please fix this :(((((

Now more mobile friendly. I recently tried this game again and it now seems to remember that I was actually playing and doesn’t go through the load screen every single time I switch to another app. I managed to complete the 40+ turns of the demo and made the leap to purchase for $10. I’m still skeptical about the builders but now that I can actually read about how they work on the web and switch back to the app I’ll give it a try. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I’ve owned every civilization 1-5, this was my first foray into VI. I am playing on an iPhone. I’m only 5 turns in and I just don’t want to play anymore. This may be a fine game on a computer with a large screen and mouse but it’s just not a good concept for mobile. One of the first issues is that the game takes 60+ seconds to boot up. I quickly swapped over to a web browser to look something up and when I switched back, it initiated the boot up sequence again - with no way to skip it. The next is that for some weird reason they changed workers (for no good reason) and they are no longer automatable. This means mega micromanaging. Poor design choice overall, but especially painful on an iPhone. Not going to pay for this one for the phone, my time is more valuable than that.

Good game, bad port. I love Civ games and this is a fine way to play it if you don’t have a lot of time to play civ at home(and is leagues better than any mobile edition other than laptop gaming) but it’s simply better to buy another version. Of course this game is cheaper but civ is a strategic game meme to be played for long periods of time and have a lot of thought put into it and I just can’t see myself doing that on my phone. I personally have the ps5 version of which is far better and very worth the $20 more (I mainly recommend steam if you have it). The main problem though is the absurdly high pricing for the game, you get the games tutorial and 60 free turns (of which I’d recommend playing duel on online speed so you can get the most out of the time via a military victory) but then slaps a $10 lock in the rest of the game and a whopping $30(or was it 40?) lock on the dlc, spending as much as a 3 year old triple A title for a mobile game is huge (yes I’m aware micro transactions exist) and if your spending that much you might as well at least buy it on a laptop. If you actually ready this huge review thanks, please head my warning and buy another version of this honestly great game, the only reason I’d get it is to burn the 60 free turns on a quick domination victory and see if you like the game.

Gathering Storm and other expansions don’t work. Have also tried to contact support on 2k games and civ6 support and neither have even responded, basically ripped off in my opinion because I bought the game twice, and the expansions. Game doesn’t even work on my computer through steam because of requirement issues I was unaware of and then I re purchased it on Nintendo switch and purchased the full expansion which supposedly includes the new frontier pass and gathering storm and rise and fall or whatever the 3rd one is called and both of those say they aren’t included in my dlc page, but the frontier pass, the one I’m least interested or excited about is, so I don’t know what’s going on but really loved this game and this franchise until these recent purchases and lack of help from the support, really there is no support and they seem to care very little about the loyal followers who have been playing civilization since the some of the original versions, I have been playing since civ 2 and all the way through til now and civ 6 was the best new version I still think, aside from once you increase to a certain level of difficulty it’s almost impossible to defeat all tye barbarian raids and get anywhere past level 6-7 or whatever emperor is and deity… good luck haha. Hoping for some better results and that they fix the expansions issues w not being there even when you have paid for them (twice for me 🤦‍♂️) and no refunds ever offered they just take your money w no remorse and no sympathy. Pretty lame

Best strategy game on iPad.. The people saying that the price is too much, please consider what you’re getting. The full Civilization 6 experience. They pulled no punches in porting over the experience, the only compromise that there is, concerns the visuals. The models are a lower setting than the computer game and it’s a minor thing. The resolution is downgraded as well but that isn’t the purpose of the game. It is meant to be a top of the line strategy game. It definitely delivers on that point. Whether you are fighting for a religious victory or going for world domination... there are so many aspects to consider. So many options to choose. Also, concerning the price. There have been sales on the game and they say to watch out for sales in the future. I just bought it on sale for about $25 after tax. Over 50% off in total. It’s amazing that they even decided to do so. I’m happy to take advantage of it. There is even local multiplayer. The “hot seat,” a mode that lets you share an iPad for each turn, so it’s basically a board game for your entire family at that point. At least if they are as nerdy as you. Great investment for the entire family. I can’t wait to get the DLC.

I’ve been playing on a 12.9” original iPad since it came out and the only issues I’ve had were with a couple of mod’s. Developers, with your next update could you possibly have as a game option, a setting to turn on the “ui scale 1” option so I don’t have to turn on my Bluetooth keyboard for that every time? Looking forward to R&F.

Not Free Even Though it Says Get. Deceptive

Do not buy the game!. For a year now I have not been able to download the DLC that I purchased. I’m getting a refund for the entire purchase, this is too disrespectful to the gamers. I’ll never play a civilization game again.

Not great for iOS. I love the genre, but this game is highly prone to crashing on iPhone/iPad play. It’s horribly frustrating.

Beautiful single player, multiplayer needs work.. Absolutely the greatest phone game a person could ever get their hands on. Single player works flawlessly, and is the full game like you’re playing on PC. IF YOURE LOOKING FOR GREAT SINGLE PLAYER ACTION THIS IS IT. Multiplayer is kind of disappointing due to there only RECENTLY (as of 1 day ago) been multiplayer where you could play with others outside of your own local WiFi. They have added cloud play, meaning you can have a set game saved on their servers, and you can play with others, but the system is VERY buggy as of now. It’s VERY hard to get into a game due to unknown errors because all it tells you is “Error joining Multiplayer Session”. But when you DO get into a game, you have to wait days sometimes a week before it is your turn again. But it’s a step in the right direction, and great for people who enjoy that sort of play. (because there are many who do) However, I still feel since there is a massive civilization community, there needs to be LIVE play options and servers. Where you play live with people without the need for waiting days and weeks. But I know it’s a work in progress, and these things take time. I’m simply saying you would find your player base growing on this app with that feature. Great work otherwise guys! 👌🏽

Edit: Amazing game!!. Edit: I was able to finally complete a full game without crashing. This legitimately feels like a full port of the game. Even has the hypocritical War weariness and Gandhi the warmongering “pacifist”: I love it!!!. Hopefully they will release some of the expansions from the main game in the future, but otherwise this is the game I was expecting when I first downloaded the app. Thank you to the developers for fixing the game! Keep up the good work. Old review: When this game works it’s amazing, but it crashes so often that it’s more frustrating then worthwhile. Originally I tried running a standard game. Crashes started around turn 50 at 150 I was crashing every other turn. Looked at the reviews figured I would try a smaller map my device is only 2 years old but whatever. Get to turn 250 with 3 crashes. Annoying but playable. Now that map is is once again crashing every couple of turns. What is the point of a game you can’t even play properly let alone play to its full potential. I have other full AAA games ported over that play fine. Appears I’ll have to stick with them and maybe one day they will fix the this app to work properly until then maybe try to convince Apple to give your money back. Side note 3-4 minute wait times to load a map are ridiculous particularly with the crashing.

No era end selection. Still lacking a way to only play certain eras and play completely without time limits.

OMG Only 1 landscape mode supported. Now I remember why I deleted it. Deleted again. Checkers is about the best thing on the App Store these days.

When is it compatible with the iPad Pro2022？. I CAN ONLY play it in 30FPS😭

Disappointing Game. Doesn’t matter how many times you uninstall, reinstall, log in and out of your account… game just never installs fully. Can’t even prioritize which packs you want. Just a constant disappointment.

As good as the desktop. As far as I can tell this is pretty much the full Civ 6 base game. Amazingly good port, I’m surprised at how well it works on the iPad. Smaller screen but not much of an issue with pinch and zoom. Basically the full desktop version with some modifications to make windows work better in the form factor. Surprising to see niceties such as key shortcuts (if you use a keyboard with it) and even DLC mods! Civ can be a mouse heavy game if you let it, but here it’s not an issue with the touch screen and the port. I do use the minimap more than I do on the desktop because it’s so easy to touch and pan. Some trimming has occurred, such as leader animations and I’m not sure what else (not much as far as I can tell). But no loss, it’s the same game essentially. Overall worth every penny I think, Civ is a classical pinnacle game and to have this level of play in this format is worth the price of admission, giving hours of game after wonderful game play. I’ve wanted to play at night but didn’t want a laptop or desktop, this fits the bill perfectly. The only thing I can hope for is to see Rise and Fall and other DLC ported to the iPad, completing the port.

Broken- don’t buy DLC. Completely impossible to play. Purchases sit at 0% forever, which means I’ve wasted serious money on this game. Tried downloading multiple times, but it doesn’t matter. Do not buy this game.

Dlc is a scam. So I paid for all the dlc and didn’t get any of it i recommend you just pay for the base game

Waste of money. Way too clunky, feeling like a stutter step every time I move. Wasted $10 🤦🏾‍♂️

What could have been. Let me start by saying I know this is a pc port, not a game made originally for mobile play. However, if you are going to make it available for an iPad, at least make it so it is playable. I have the full game and purchased all of the DLC. After the update, the game is completely unplayable. The mini map no longer works at all. The map options are non responsive. You can no longer see tile yields or wonder names. If you continue to play anyway, when you get to the first world Congress, the game completely crashes and you can no longer play. I have tried to reach out to customer support but there is no in game option. I have created a bug report on their website but as of today, it has been 5 days, there has been no response. As near as I can tell, they pushed out a bug filled update, took my money for the DLC and checked out, never to be heard from again. Pre-update, the game was great. I play civ 6 on pc but wanted a game that was easier to get to than on my laptop. It was pretty close to that version. However, it now completely is broken. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNTIL THE BUGS ARE FIXED. It took them over a year to release New Frontier DLC as compared to PC, Xbox and PlayStation versions, I would not hold my breath on a patch to fix these issues. We are clearly not their priority.

Fix your game. I love Civ but if you get into the game, the dlc WILL bug out. I bought three DLC‘s and only one downloads. I have the memory space for it.

I need a refund. My dlcs won’t download ! And I need a refund on everything the game isn’t even playable . I can’t play my dlc and every time I try to redownload it it says it cannot connect to the Apple Store I need a refund asap!!!

Price Gouging DLCs. The game is great and runs great, but the fact that the two major DLCs cost 1.5x to 2x the price of the base game is absolutely ridiculous. This is clear price gouging.

Can’t start multiplayer game. Even though the store listing says it supports multiplayer, it’s become so buggy that none of the buttons for launching a new game actually work. Ridiculous.

Perfect Game to Port For IPad. I was very skeptical about this release, especially after the “revolution” attempts. I was expecting a watered down experience from the PC game. However the only difference in this IPad version and the PC/MAC version is quality of graphics. Seriously, that’s it. Every feature is identical. And you will quickly come to have blinders on to this singular defect as you delve into games intricacies. Now there is a downside to the game that is simply the fault of the device you’re playing it on. The technical limitations of my IPad Pro compared to my heavily modded PC does show in games with Standard map size, 7+ other civilizations, and an assortment of City-States. I found the game to get bogged down in the time waiting between turns with those aforementioned settings by turn 200. While I would love to play on the Earth map, it simply isn’t worth waiting 5-10 minutes per turn in the end game. I found that Tiny map, 3 AI players, and no city states are the settings in which the game can be enjoyed to the fullest. Also, the game has support for mods, as seen in the menu, but I have yet to find a way to actually get them on the IPad. I’m also eagerly awaiting the IOS release of the Rise & Fall expansion. With all this said, get the game for free and try the 60 turn limit trial before deciding if the somewhat steep price of $60 is worth it to you. As a Civ fanatic, it certainly was worth it to me.

Achievements don’t save. Great game but my achievements don’t save

Base game works perfectly for me. This is my situation. I have Civ 6 at home on my PC with all expansions and I love it. I wanted to just grab the base game on mobile so I had something to do in my downtime out in the world. This plan has worked out great for me. Base game works great on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. No crashes or issues. None. Ever. I don’t plan on getting any of the expansions for the phone because I have them all already on PC. So if your like me and just need something to pull out and mess around with on your downtime or waiting for something you will love this game and it will work great for you. I love that it never harasses you with ads or trying to get you to buy more packs or upgrade. It never bothers you ever. Pay ten bucks and have unfettered fun. I have never found a mobile game I have enjoyed. I knew I already loved Civ decided to try it and it turned out wonderful. So if your situation is like mine and you just need someone quick fun. You love Civ and I can’t speak for expansions packs on mobile but if you don’t want any like me this will be a great choice.

Great port but has it’s issues. If you want civ at the touch of your hands at any moment then go ahead and get this. It’s a great port of the beloved series of Sid Meier’s Civilization but, of course, it does come with it’s own drawbacks being limited by the mobile platform. As many would know most civ games can take up many hours, even days, which can lead to a warmer phone and sometimes crashes. With multiple A.I, later turns could end up taking 5 to 10 minutes depend on how many you have. Regardless of these issues I can still have an enjoyable game with 4 or 5 A.I and 6 city states. It’s only after intense play(2-3 hrs) that you actually start experiencing these problems. I have to say is pretty mind blowing that at one point I was play civ 3 on a dinosaur to playing it on a smartphone. Great buy if you wanna blow time away like old days, two reasons I give it a 4 are the gameplay issues at times but also how the game support is handled verses pc. It’s very lacking when it comes to dlc or patches coming out for the game. I’m sure this comes down a small staff for the game and my support goes out to you guys. Guess I’m too used to weekly updates for games.

Payment method broken. I bet you’d get a lot more people to purchase the full game if the payment update section actually worked…

If you know Civ games you know this. This is the full game of civilization 6 as you would play it on Mac or pc (without the expansions). I bought it for the $30 price (before Jan 2018) and if you are thinking it sounds like a steep price for an iPad game, just remember you’re getting a full game that’s also at least at time of release $60. I’ve always loved the civ games as to me it’s one of those games you can relax really relax with. But I don’t like playing games on my Mac and always thought games like this would be perfect on an iPad with touch screen and voila they did it and it works wonderfully with touch gestures. Love I can chill on the couch with my iPad with this game. Graphics are great, haven’t played on Mac but from what I hear it looks liked if you put it on low setting. It has only crashed on me twice (it auto saves every turn) so no lost game time. I will say I’m playing on iPad Pro and it runs perfect. I really hope this will be the forefront for more big games to start develop on iPad, games like Cities Skylines would be perfect too. Bottom line I’m impressed and not regretting coughing up $30 for this games as I’ve already put in countless of hours and many more to come.

My favorite game but… so buggy and won’t run on my new iPhone. I have been a loyal Civ player since 1990, when I started playing on my Mac SE, and it has earned a higher percentage on my screen time in the past 30 years than any other game. That’s definitely true of this version on my phone which has provided infinite hours of entertainment for me and I’m addicted to it even though the game is so, so slow; crashes all the time; requires additional purchases to maximize the experience; has all sorts of bugs and loopholes in the AI. The point is, despite this, I love it and spend hours playing - but now that I have a new iPhone it won’t load. Top of the line iPhone 14 Pro Max, current iOS which has been in beta testing for months but… it’s been 11 months since this app was updated. This must be the most incredible cash cow, delivering solid revenue month after month from a decade old PC game poorly ported to iOS. So, let this be a lesson, don’t buy this expecting any support or updates. You might fall in love, like me, only to be continually disappointed or left high and dry when an iPhone or iOS update renders you unable to play. Caveat emptor.

Why make something “free” to charge people in app. Game Is “free” to download yet the moment the app opens your prompted with “buy our game for $10” lol i immediately uninstalled don’t waste your time.
