I sigh. It's a circular failure: Plant Light needs Camera access. Have at, says I. Here's your settings, says Plant Light. Ok, where do I find the permission? ask I I'm not telling, answers Settings. I dunno, shrugs Plant Light. Allow plant light app camera access? I ask Google Light meter for plants, responds Google More apps? 🔽 asks Google It worked before, I sigh. I don't know.

Plant saver!. People tend to give me plants that I know very little about simply because I love plants. This app is awesome to figure out good placement and give a good basic overview of a variety of plants. It’s SUPER easy to suggest additions too! I sent in a request at the contact email for a couple of tricky plants to be added and got a response the next day. The plants were added by the next update.

I don’t think it’s accurate. I love my plants so I went to get this app to see how much light they are getting so far it registers low light on all of them in spite of different location and time of the day I had been checking. It keeps registering low light. What a waste of money!!

It isn’t working. I paid for this app and no matter how much light I point my phone at it gives me “very low.” Even when I was outside on a sunny day! 👎🏼

Everything is too low. I’m confused, every single reading in my house is reading too low, even in the brightest rooms in my house. This seems like a waste of money, considering I have plants all over and nothing has died due to inappropriate light.

Almost there. I like it, but a numerable value would be nice, and it would be nice to be able to flip the camera.

Amazing FREE Plant Light App!!. I’m always on the search for a truly FREE plant app. This one is awesome and I’d say pretty accurate for lighting. Wish it had a few more options for indoor plants. Like orchids.

Excellent Meter. This is a simple, easy to use and straightforward tool for measuring light. It has a very attractive interface and updates to various light levels automatically. I’ve used another meter where you have to push a button to take a reading, but this does it on the fly, which is what I particularly like about it. My only suggestion is that it would be nice if one could use either the front or rear cameras.

It should use the front camera to measure the light. The fact that it only uses the back camera to measure light it makes no sense - how you read the light when you have to turn your phone down to use it - seems like they didn’t put much thought on the user experience or even use their product themselves

Feature request. PLEASE make this usable on FRONT FACING CAMERA!!!!! fixed! thanks!!! 🙏

Wish I hadn’t paid before trying. It’s a cool concept, but it’s got a limited list of plants to check from and half of mine aren’t on it. This was recommended online as a free app, I wish I’d have tried it before paying.

Not accurate. I pointed the camera at the leaves of all of the plants in my very bright southwest sunroom. It read anywhere from too low-medium which is by no means accurate. When I hold my phone in front of the leaves but point the camera out towards the light I finally get a reading of bright, which I know the room to be. The room is full of cacti, succulents, and palms- all of which love bright light- and they are all thriving. Clearly there is more than enough light for the room to be considered bright but the app doesn’t read as such. I’m glad it was only $.99 to find out but still a rip off. Save your money.

Handy App. As a newby plant mom, I use this app all the time to find the best locations in the house for my plant babies. Definitely worth the couple of bucks I spent for it.

[Insert word for terrible]. This is light meter is severely inaccurate. The light level dramatically changes from “very low” to “high” with incredibly small changes to the phones angle despite being in the exact same spot in the room. Don’t waste your money.

The best plant app. On of the best light measurements for plants. Good job guys

HATE THE UPDATE. Go back to the old version, it worked so much better. This one is entirely not accurate!! BOOOOOOOO I would not have paid for it had I known they would entirely change it.

Don’t waste your money. Bought this to help me figure out if certain places in my home were good for particular plants, and even in a bright window, it tells me “too low”....doesn’t make sense. Wish I didn’t buy.

Totally inaccurate. I’ve had a kitchen full of flourishing plants for the past year - golden pothos, philodendrons, monsteras and quite a few others. Typically these like medium - low indirect light. Per this app, my lighting in my kitchen is “very low” where “no planes can survive for long.” Obviously, this is totally wrong. I also pointed the app directly at my full spectrum grow lights and also got the reading “very low.” Don’t waste your dollar this is app is a joke.

At least it was only $1. Reads as very low even when pointing out the window on a sunny day.

Missing common plant!. Cannabis plant is not one of the available options. 😕

Definitely Inacurrate. To get an idea of accuracy, I tested this on a few of my plants in a very sunny, bright south-facing window. The app read all as being in low light. Definitely won’t be using this further!

Don’t waste your money. Bought this because it has decent reviews. Should have read more carefully, as it seems like it was better before an update. In any case, it’s useless. How can a plant right next to a west facing window get a reading of low?? Makes no sense. Don’t bother getting this app.

Beware. Bought it and it doesn’t tell exact numbers, way off from normal meters you regularly buy

New version extremely inaccurate. **Do not buy the update broke it.** The original version was a bit tricky position, but it worked. In the new version the app attempts to take a reflective light reading instead of an ambient one, but it’s wildly inaccurate. Plants sitting on the window sill in direct sun often read as if they had lower light then plants 4-6 feet away from the nearest window. Plants with darker coloration read as if they have less light then plants directly next to them. The app also no longer supports plants with variegated or colorful leaves.

Too simple. Only gives 4 light levels with fc in fine print. No help on how to select front or back camera. Much better and free Lux meter apps available.

Doesn’t work. I wish I would have read the reviews before wasting my money. Shows low or very low even when pointed straight toward a grow light lamp ...

Skeptical at first but life saver for newbies. My house only has north and south facing windows with trees or house structures blocking window light. I found it a struggle finding the best place to put plants but this app helps a ton. All my plants have been doing well and I credit this app in helping me along my plant hobby journey.

Pretty awesome!. I usually randomly test plants to make sure they’re getting enough light. I live in a basement apartment and they only rely on grow lights. This is pretty accurate and so helpful. My plants are thriving in my conditions. People complain that there’s some plants missing but all you have to do is use the all plants feature and see how many fc there is and look up how much your plants need.

Such a cool idea!. Love this app, super nice to be able to get different light readings using my phone! I would request support for trees commonly used for bonsai, like Chinese elm and juniper!

Not compatible with new iPhones. This app worked on my iPhone 6s but not on th iPhone 11. They need to update access to the camera in the new iPhone protocols. Don’t Buy!

App works great. Even without putting it on leaves, it works great. Worth the money

Plants need light. I am very glad for this app I love how easier it is to know The right lighting thank you

New phone, no app. Don’t we love it when we can buy an application, and not have it work?? Well, that’s what happened to me. Yeah, I was just able to waste my money😾 This worked on my old iPhone 7plus, but not my new iPhone X. Gave this one star, since it works on older phones.

Update is trash. New update broke this app completely garbage now not accurate at all

This is a compass. This is stupid. I have a compass on my phone. This is no different than a compass. I want my dollar back It does not actually measure light intensity (wanted to test it on the LED lights I got for my hydroponics)

Doubtful. In direct sunlight it goes back and forth between medium and high. DIRECT. SUNLIGHT. It’s very easy to use but I don’t feel it’s very accurate

Doesn’t work. Worthless if you’re going to spend money get lux pro

New version suxs. Everything reads low light .. it makes no sense.. if I point it at the plants foliage is it telling what light is best for the plant or what light it is getting. I liked when you point it at the light source it made more sense.

Doesn’t work.. Always says low light even when in direct sunlight.

Measures the color of your leaves, not the amount of light.. I have 2 plants in the exact same location. One is a light green and one is dark green. The app says the dark green one is in medium light & the lighter green one is high light. This app is obviously just measuring the darkness of the plant’s color, not the actual amount of light it is receiving.

so helpful. now I know why!

Update fixed the issues. Thank you for updating the app. I had given it one star based upon the inaccuracies the update had caused but it’s back to working fine now. I tried it on natural light and two different grow lights and it provided readings that seemed to be more in line with what I would expect.

Knowing. I love being able to monitor my plants’needs by repositioning them for their best light needs!

Doesn’t work. Doesn’t work don’t waste the money

Loved it before the update. It was so helpful before the recent update. When I moved into my new place a year ago it helped me figure out my lighting and where my plants, new and old, could thrive. And it worked! This new update is—and I don’t say this lightly—trash. It reads low or too low for every one of my plants, many of which the app told me before (and I know is true) are in bright or medium light. Pretty bummed to not have this tool at my disposal anymore!

Don’t waste your Money. I should have read reviews rather than rely of star ratings which is artificially inflated by fake reviews. Every thing is low or barely medium. Even in bright sunlight outside!!!

Happy to be Wrong!. Thought I wasn’t going to like this app, but I was wrong. No more guessing, no more trying to figure out lumens, lux, candle 😝 Takes all the guesswork out! Only complaint, not enough plants!! PLEASE add more. Even if it’s as a paid add on, it would be worth it!!

Works great. I almost didn’t download after reading the reviews. I’m so glad I did. Although this utility uses a back-facing camera, it doesn't take much effort to get a reading. Just point in the general direction — I had no problem seeing the screen at the same time I was checking light quality. If you aren’t getting a reading you expect, tilt the camera a bit one way or the other to grab the light. Easy! Also, there is a numerical meter that will give more detail than ‘very low’, ‘low’, etc. I have about 150 plants in my home at any given time (for the Farmers Market) and this helps cut out the guesswork.

Idk what app everyone else is using. My room gets I would personally say medium light and I tested it out and it said “very low.” I decided to really put it to the test by going to the brightest south facing window in my house and it said “low” still. Then I put it directly at the sun and it said “medium.” To me it seems off and it’s a waste of money just use your eyeballs to tell

Not compatible with iPhone Xs. Upgraded from an iPhone 7plus and I can’t allow this app access to my camera. The app doesn’t even show in Apple settings. Please fix this issue bc the app works great...or at least it used to

Great but could b better. This is a great easy to use app. However when u’re in the light detection mode, it only lists plants by common name and u have to scroll through everything. I have to go into the Guide to look for the scientific name and then return to the meter and re-scroll through the 70 odd names. The database doesn’t keep up with all the latest varieties and it can be difficult to check. Eg peperomia is a very diverse genus and more variegated varieties require more light than green ones. But nonetheless the app saves me downloading another light meter and googling to determine the appropriate light range.

Plant light. Very useful in the green house

Pretty rubbish. Save your $

Great app, but I wish it used the front camera. Beautiful app, but it uses the rear camera to measure light levels, not the front facing (selfie) camera! The rear camera might be useful if the light were coming from the ground, but usually it comes from above. The front camera would make using the app much more intuitive, because you could just hold the phone near the plant and see what it says on the screen — the phone would get the same light as a leaf. At present though, using the rear camera, you have to point the back of phone up towards the light and then try to read the screen, which now faces down, from underneath. A simple change would make this app a perfect five stars.

Simple. Does exactly what I need it to do easily, effectively and elegantly. 👌

Works well if you use it right!. I was worried that I had very low light levels in all my rooms, then realised I need to point the camera at the light, not the screen 🤦‍♀️. Works well.

Easy to use, but room for improvement.. I really like this app. It’s very simple to use. The list of plants available for selection is limited however, and should be expanded. The ‘All Plants’ option is too generic and not useful. I’d expect this limited degree of functionality from a free app, not a paid one.

Waste of money. Shows everything inside as too low light, followed directions exactly still doesn’t work.

Great app, however.... Great app, however I definitely found it more useful and easier to use before the most recent update. It would be great if there was a setting that allowed you to choose between the old and the new way of using it.

Love it. Easy to use and good information to find the best location for my plants to thrive.

I don’t like the update. I don’t like the update! Now you have to take individual shots of foliage and there is no information without it. Before it was easier to move around and see where/what position provided what light strength. I am deleting this app because there isn’t even an option to go back to this or remove this version! So disappointing! I loved it before!

So cute. Love it

Not happy. App add shows light levels measured in footcandles but when I downloaded its in lux? No link to show how to change this.

Settings. Unable to chance from Lux to FC. No setting option

Glad I found it - love it! Simple and helpful.. I had been considering purchasing a light meter. Then found this. This simple app is very helpful for the indoor plant lover - even if it confirms what you already knew! Good educative tool to see how light levels change in the same position throughout the day and throughout the year as well. The accompanying table of plants suitable for different light levels is useful too.

Love it!. Very easy to use and helpful! I wish the lux numbers were explained!

Awesome. This app helped me a lot for my lighting situation for indoor or outdoor plants great app keep it up.

I d les plantes!. Faudrait aussi identifier les plantes

Direction not correct. Directions off by a degree

Très utile!. C'est parfait pour savoir quelle luminosité reçoivent mes plantes et leur donner la même quand je déménage!

Great tool. I have marked all my plants as favourites, but I have 2 plants that were not in the list of plants on the app. That’s why 4 stars. Also the app doesn’t talk about watering, it only talks about sunlight. Watering and a few more plants would be a good upgrade, but the app helps me to remember the name of my plants and I’ve moved some around to help them get the light that’s meant for each individual plant. If I’ve learned anything, you have to treat their needs individually.

Haven’t been able to use it. It needs access to my camera and I haven’t been able to allow it?

Worked originally now cannot access camera. Every time I try to use this it says it needs access to my iphone camera, and Allow or Cancel pops up. Choosing settings takes me to my phone settings, but does not specify where to go. Just brings up the main settings page. So silly me, I assume I should go into the camera settings, and allow access to the plant light app. Wrong! There is no option for this. Okay dummy, clearly I should have opened Plant Light in the phone settings menu and looked there, right? Wrong! The app in not listed in the settings list at all. Yes, I have turned it off and back on. Yes, my phone and all apps are up to date. Please for the love all that is holy, fix this bug. I would love to give you five stars. *update 3/4/21* After the update that came in today, the light meter actually works!! Thank you for the fix. 5 stars! PS: A split leave philo is not the same as a monstera. 😉

Surprisingly Almost fun. Works Quick and easy will surprise you.

Doesn’t work for me at all. It just reads “very low” no matter what the light level is. Even in full sun.

Not as pictured. The app preview shows the light measurement in fc, but my version only uses lux. It’s very basic with no settings function etc. If you’re looking for lux this could work.

Useful. Quick and easy to use, if you’re looking to gauge foot-candles this is definitely more than enough. You can learn a great deal about how to use light efficiently for your plants.

Too simplistic. ... and useless

Inaccurate. This app is EXTREMELY inaccurate. Now I know why I deleted the app.

Worthless. Shows only/always low light even when I point it to a light source (LED light bulb)

Not accurate. I am in the brightest spot in my house where plants get BURNED and it barely says “medium.”
