Used to be a valued source. Computer Music used to be a valuable reference source for music producers that are focused on production from their computer, however in recent years it has taken a turn from that path to more of a pop culture style magazine. Not to mention the app needs a major overhaul. You can not minimize it and return to the app without it freezing and needing to be restarted, thus leaving you only one choice; scroll all the way down the huge back catalogue list to find the magazine you were reading. I know with the resources that CM has they can do much better and I sincerely hope they do.

Computer Music is to magazines what Moog is to Synthesizers. I love Computer Music Mag - it's got great articles for all levels of knowledge and experience with great free sound packs and plugins, easy to understand tutorials, additional videos, gear and software reviews for all kinds of equipment and industry features that keep me in the loop (no pun intended) - and of course great profile articles on artists working in many diverse genres I love or will grow to love via CM exposure. I actually subscribe to the print and digital mag so that I can have the hard copies to refer back to - I have read and learned from them since I was just cutting my (sawtooth) teeth (lol) back in the 2000s. Now as a studio owner an company founder, as well as a music producer and audio engineer, I still look forward to getting my digital and eventually print copy of CM every month (my only complaint is that as someone who lives in LA, I end up getting the print mag a few weeks after the digital has been out and is already read through on my iPad and iPhone - but that's okay because I still get to anticipate its arrival like a school kid waiting on NatGeo or Highlights...thanks CM staff...and see u at NAMM at the end of the month! Cheers!

What no more video? !. I read this on my iPad. For a while they were doing more and more videos that I could watch directly from the digital edition on my iPad. This latest issue. There were 2 as opposed to an issue a couple of months ago where there were more than twenty. This was my favorite, but if there’s not going to be how to videos that can be easily accessed on my iPad, I may cancel my subscription. For a moment I thought CM looked like the future of digital magazines - that is no longer true.

Crashing videos. I’m very frustrated with how often this app crashes when trying to either play an embedded video or click a link. I’m using an iPad Pro, and running iOS 11. I have had the app crash no less than 20 times while trying to read one article tonight. I am finding myself regretting paying for files that cannot be opened in any other player but this buggy one, one that appears not to have been updated in over a year.

Amazing value. Each issue is packed with content, tutorials for all skill levels, and some seriously excellent bonus digital content including samples and plugins. Definitely recommend.

To Haukur & Memphidelity. UPDATE Sept. 6, 2015: First of all the quality of the content hasn't changed - editorially the magazine is the same. What has changed is the app. It's getting slower, fatter, more bloated, and frankly just worse with each and every update. It feels like it's due to just sloppy programming and development. It's just slow now and kind of leaves you feeling like a crash is always just around the corner, always. There is also the "New Issue" indicator dot which is permanent now and annoying. Yes, even if every issue has been read, it displays the indicator. OLD REVIEW: "To Haukur & Memphidelity" You're both absolute morons. The app IS free, were you charged anything for downloading it? More importantly, did you even bother to read what you were downloading? No, you obviously didn't. Why on earth would CM be completely free to read? The app you downloaded is just the vessel to deliver the content. It clearly explains everything in the description. Yet you give a perfectly good and perfectly functioning app 1 star because of YOUR STUPIDITY. Next time you're in a bookstore, please raise heII because you can't have the mag for free. Idiots. Quit being so "rate happy".

Well worth it. It's got it all to help you through almost any situation regarding home recording. Text, video and pics are all combined to make the learning process less painless. Glad I found this

Updates removing downloads - fixed. The last update removed all of my downloaded issues. The current update just crashes on launch (I've completely powered off, etc., but nothing works.). It looks like I'll have to download everything yet again, which is a pain, since it is extremely slow even with DSL. The magazine itself is great, but the digital version of it needs work. Update: Tech support from Future Publishing took the time to actually respond to my problems and not send boilerplate text. I had also been unable to download purchased issues and they fixed that, too. Sending tech support the diagnostic log from the app helped them figure out what was going on. Kudos to their responsiveness - many places never respond personally. I've bumped my rating back up to five stars.

double charging me. love the magazine but I have a subscription to this and future music magazine and I keep having to buy each issue individually again just to get it

Wow!. Amazing material, but as of the past few months there have been numerous updates resulting in the redownloading of all my 31 issues. This takes an additional 30-40 minutes of download time. And now 2 of the issues arent showing up most likel because they were free when the app was originally released. Also the issues are jumbled in the app and not in any order. The browse issue feature has made browsing cery difficult because when you click on a page while browsing then go back to browsing, you have to restart browsing at page 1, even if you're on page 115! The search feature is awesome. But I can't even access any issues as of right now, so until that changes, this app recieves 1 star. The second this changes, I will give another 5 star review... I gave it 5 stars months ago because this app has turned me from a novice to a semi-pro!!!!! These magazines are gold!!!!!!!!!!

Defective app fails to restore my purchases. After updating to IOS6, the app failed to restore my purchases. Magazine said to speak to Apple. I sent Apple copies of my receipts showing purchases. Apple said they can't explain why my magazines disappeared but they can't restore because magazines are treated like buying ammo in a game---once you use it, its gone. Don't buy magazine's through in-app purchases until they get their act together. No guarantees that your purchases will be secure.

Excellent .. With one gripe... Love it. Great resource for musicians. My only gripe is that often times there is very little contrast between copy and image background and it's super hard to ready. If you use dark background, you must use white font. If you light background, use black font. As a rule, please stop using really busy background graphics that make it hard to read. It's about the copy, not the images.

Great magazine, great content, blah app. The main issue with the app is that I've had to delete and reinstall it every time iOS updates, even small versions like 8.0.1 to 8.0.2. Otherwise it crashes as soon as it launches. Something is wrong for this to happen even with minor changes. The only other issue I run into is that when I want to show/hide the page thumbnails and top nav bar, it can be hard to find a place on the page that's not also a link to another section, such as with cover and index pages. So in addition to showing the nav, it's also jumped the read point to a random location. Kind of annoying!

Great mag - app not so much on iOS 8.. I love Computer Music and the digital version was great until iOS 8. Now it crashes all the time. I can uninstall/reinstall but that deletes the downloaded mags and I have to start over every time. I can't get through an entire issue without it crashing and I have to reinstall and redownload the magazine I want to read again. Power cycling iOS (which fixes some app crashes) does nothing to help. Please fix the app. So frustrating but worth it for the amazing content. 5 stars once it gets fixed.

Do not buy until they allow transfer to new iPhone!. I purchased a yearly subscription on my iPhone 4, then when I upgraded to my iPhone 4s it would not allow me to transfer my subscription. I have been searching online for a way to contact them but as of yet I have had no luck. I suggest you do not purchase this magazine until we are certain that they will allow you to transfer your subscription to a new phone.

The best way to learn music production.. I've been reading Computer Music for over a decade and it's the best way to learn new techniques for songwriting and music production. Including tutorials, product reviews, and a helpful Q&A section. I recommend musicians new and skilled to read Computer Music every month. And thanks to the ipad version, I now have access to hundreds of issues without taking up space in my apartment.

Just a great magazine. Really can't wait for each new issue, great tips and reviews, you can learn a lot by reading it especially if you're a newb.....only glitch is sometimes restoring purchases is a bit wonky, but they keep updating it so fingers crossed they'll get it sorted.

Can’t see magazine cover unless connected to internet. I download the mags after purchase. Once i disconnect from the internet i can no longer see the magazine covers. Wasn’t like this before the revamp. Could you all fix this? I hat hunting for the issue i may want to read just because i can’t see the cover.

The Best. Computer Music magazine has always been the best! Great tips and instructions for making and mixing music! Love having my magazines digital now so that I do not have to worry about wearing out the pages of my favorite issues!

Constant issues with losing purchases. Extremely slow or not existent support. Suddenly app will say cannot connect to store and all you have is an empty shell with news. Support turn around is days. Do not expect it to be available when you need it or are working on something. All future publishing apps have the same issue

Great plugins, even better content. I’ve been a reader for a few years now and it has truly been a joy to read. The plugins are worth the subscription alone, but their explanations are simple, concise, and tailored around helping you apply the techniques you learn to your own music.

CM Where Have You Been All My Life?. I've had these songs rattling around in my brain for years and my life's desire has been to have them make that trip into my ears (and into everybody else's, of course!) Since the public only knows professional production and the environment is unforgiving, discovering CM has given me hope that I can actually pull this off! Thanks CM!!!

Ripped off! Don't buy it!. I purchased the current fall issue. Expecting to read it, each time I open my magazine stand, the issue does not show up. When I go to the purchased apps to restore it, I get an Installed message. I have gone to the original App page, and I am prompted to buy the magazine again. I have found this App to be totally buggy, and the publishers to be completely unresponsive when contacted.

Indispensable Studio Companion. I've been reading Computer Music for many years. There's always more to learn in any discipline and Computer Music is always reliable as a compendium of tried & true techniques and the cutting edge of technological advances. Much preferred over its American counterparts (and if you've taken the time to read this, you likely know which magazines I mean). Five stars well earned.

Great magazine. I used to subscribe to future music magazine. But after my subscription ran out I couldn't find it on any newsstand it's incredible that they have Computer Music and Future Music available on the iPhone.

So what's wrong with showing a proper sized preview?. Check out the Cooking Light app, now! While not perfect, there one thing that sets this app millions of miles above the rest. FULL PAGE SAMPLES!!! Because it doesn't have the micro-view offered by Zino and other Newsstand apps you can actually SEE what an issue offers. You almost want to buy every issue, matter of fact I'm getting a subscription! Imagine-FX, Guitar Techniques, Official Xbox Magazine, Zino and Future Publishing, pay attention and see how it's done right. Bravo Cookling Light Magazine! Great mag in the stores, but the jury is still out with the app. The previews for issues you can get are way to small to see what is being offered. The least they could do is make the cover and the tale of contents bigger. Come on, do you want me to buy more or not? So what's wrong with showing a proper sized preview?

Superb Magazine, Superb App. I've been a devotee of Computer Music since I first discovered it in 2005, and, up until last year, I shelled out $16/month at the local Barnes & Noble for the print edition. Well, for the price of two or three of those print editions, I've got an entire *year's* worth of virtual interactive issues packed with videos, audio examples, interviews, and all manner of content accessible with a tap of the finger. Superb app for a superb publication, and, really, the price CANNOT be beat!

Good magazine. Not sure why the other two reviewers gave up so fast. All one had to do was scroll thru all their magazines to find the one issue that they did give for FREE and it was a full magazine ( unlike others who remove pages in their free downloads) This magazine has a lot of content and after reading the free sample i purchased a subscription, lots of good reviews Only drawback is that its geared more for the UK reader than the US reader so all the ADs represent that

Great content. I have been reading CM for years. I love getting some great info, some useful samples and interesting plugins to add to the toolbox. I am on an older iPad and it does crash and take a bit to load, otherwise I love getting to read it! Thanks!

Getting slow, crashy, and buggy. I love Computer Music magazine on the iPad, particularly for the embedded video player. Watching music production tutorials easily inside the magazine instead of only reading them is a huge deal. However, this app is starting to hang while turning pages, takes a really long time to load the startup screen's current magazine details, etc... on my ipad 3. According to recent tablet sales figures, most people, myself included, do not plan to update their tablets anytime soon. Please make sure the latest app updates work well with older iPads. It's a magazine: page loading should be snappy and responsive to make for a leisurely experience.

Works as advertised. iPad 2, works great - the videos in the pages would be nice to play in place w/o opening a new window, but all in all I have no complaints. MUCH cheaper than paying for shipping from England to America!!

Easily the best.. 1- Quality instruction. This mag has the most educational resources I've ever seen from a magazine. There are tutorials, downloadable DAW files, and detailed videos that ensure you've got a grasp of the concept. 2- Free monthly downloadable effects and instruments. Just go to their site and punch in the information to receive monthly goodies. 3- Advanced content. I was certainly expecting to see articles about how the filter works or compression... Did not expect stereo imaging. Wow! Grab it now. It's worth it.

Mag's AWESOME -- app = Not So Much. I live in the relative boondocks of Maine, USA in the reaches of northern New England where "magazine stands" are 100's of miles apart ...and they don't carry fancy imported stuff! I'm in 7th heaven being able to subscribe and even easily purchase all previously published issues and specials. My only negative is the Apple Newsstand app which has to be fully restored just about every time I open it to read a previously downloaded issue. I'm wondering if, when my subscription comes up for renewal I'll be able try the non-Apple subscription

Decent app all in all. Most of this app works well. And it is a great way to store your magazines. But the video portions of all of the computer music videos take forever to start, and if you try to fast foreword it'll free entirely and the app will crash.

Excellent content and great support. I find the all the content, from basic info, to tutorials to reviews to the downloadables excellent. The support is also excellent. When I had a problem with a corrupted credentials file that meant I couldn't download some editions after migrating to a new iPad, Future app support researched my purchases and got back to me within 24 hours with the steps to fix the issue. Highly recommended.

Nice work!!. Pretty simple. This app is everything it wants to be. Completely functional, and conveys the content in a very useful and well thought out fashion. It's the only mag I subscribe to on a monthly basis through the newsstand, which is due to both the excellent content and the excellent way it is presented by the app.

You dont own issues outside of app.. I bought the entire collection of magazines but cannot access them outside of the IOS app. I bought a Samsung and there is no corresponding app. As far as i can tell there isn’t any indication or warning. I would have purchased them through an app that offers more options to access your issues.

Nice mag.... This is def a nice magazine but on the iPhone it's hard to read and I end up just waiting money. Wish I could at least read it through iTunes but I haven't figured out a way to do it. I guess its time to get them sent to the door. I give the iphone app 3 stars but the mag gets a full five!

Feature request. This is an awesome magazine. The ability to download content is great. Something I would like to see in the future is the ability to save certain sections of the magazine for future reference. We all find articles from time to time that we really would like to save or be able to reference easily in the future. Unfortunately it gets lost in the shuffle of so many magazines.

Cant buy the content. Dont bother with this, it wont let you purchase any content. Every magazine i attempt to buy ends in an error. Didnt try a subscription, maybe there will be better luck that way

App needs update. Great magazine, but the application is laborious

Crashing regularly on ipad 4. Ios 11.1 is causing this to crash when backing out of magazine or exiting a video from or scrobbing a video.

Inspiration. Always a great source of inspiration to get something going and learn and practice. The muses don’t always visit, but when they do, they better catch you working. And the lessons and tutorials here are great starting points. Super glad the app is here. The filo site to download accompanying material is pretty slow though....

Great mag, bad app. The app stopped updating my subscription, and attempts to contact customer service result in an auto-reply FAQ that does nothing to help or even acknowledge the problem. I have no idea if they are even aware there is a bug that needs to be fixed, as I have written them twice and received the same form response. New issues show up as available, but the app gets stuck on "updating subsription details" or "failed to connect to store, try again later" type message.

Amazing App! Incredible magazine!!!. My production skills have improved so much since I started reading this magazine! I would say this magazine would be the next best thing to a college education in music production!!!! I would be lost without all three of Futures music apps / magazines!!!!

Can’t even log in!. First I had problems with this app on iPhone. Now with my iPad Air I can’t even log in anymore. Have barely used this sub. Freezes up and ghosts password input. I see others with similar problems. If this continues past today, I’m demanding my $ back from Future Publishing, CM 🤨

Crashes Constantly. On my iPad Mini 3 with iOS 11.2, this app is crashing every 20 minutes, and videos are not playing. With a paid subscription to this publication, I feel that I am not getting my money's worth any longer. Please CM, fix your app and make it useable!!!

Dirty underhanded app. It wont let me read mags Ive purchased in my library that I downloaded. Instead I always get a pop-up asking me to subscribe or buy more. Why woukd I buy more issues if I cant read the ones i already bought? And no, I dont need the monthly subscription...

Blessed resources. The best thing about this magazine is the free software. I have a few staples in my collection that I got fork the mag. 2nd, the articles help a lot, 3rd would be the samples that are provided. Amazing value, couldn't recommend it enough for anyone that uses a computer to make music.

Subscription but no magazine. Yesterday I paid for a digital subscription where the issue was “available immediately”. Still being asked to pay for the cut tent issue download. Very frustrating and unsatisfactory.

Stick to the hard copy.. I bought six months sub with this mag, and havn't recieved one copy. No support, no nothin. Not that happy.

Needs cover cd. Without the cover cd there is no reason to get this. All the tutorials require the cd, and you miss out on lots of content...disappointing

Try’s to charge me again for back issues. I’ve recently downloaded the app again after a break of a few years. The back issues I previously purchase show no price just download. I press download and it tries to charge me for issue rather than be fee.

Knuckle dragging obstacle course dubious software. The worst interface I've ever encountered. The most absurdly cryptic, barrier ridden, money trapping, obstacle course of coding to what should be a straight ahead, ordinary, magazine reader. This software has it's hand out asking for money on nearly ever button. I must have refreshed my iTunes subscription 4 times by now. It is happy to play ads for other stuff but to just download and read? Nada, zilch, try another button... Where is my one button that says: "You are recognised as a Subscriber. Press this button to download and read the magazine."???!!! The amount of price tags everywhere meant I cannot know what is mine and what is still theirs. The software did not recognise I'm already an iTunes paid subscriber multiple times and I'm pretty sure I'll need to go to iTunes to check my account hasn't been double dipped by the equally cryptic duplicate level of password protection offered by this coding carbuncle. It's been 8 hours and I still haven't read any of the subscription issues I've paid for. Convenience factor? Nil Anger value? High to Critical You might be better off buying it at the newsagent rack if you want to read the magazine. But if you want to get bored with ancient outdated payment/delivery methods then this is your best avenue. And you'd think, it being about "Computer Music" it might be ok... LOL REFUND PLEASE!

Very no. No interview video No Movies No Sound No Samples Nothing new. just like PDF on iPad. I want my money back.

Just a PDF. I've only got the free back-issue, but it's enough to tell me not to buy any more. This should be so much better, but it's just like a non-interactive PDF on your iPad. There's not even any navigation for the table of contents. Future, please take this a bit more seriously and make something modern, not in the past.

Excellent. The app is excellent!!! Navigating the mag is extremely easy with a variety in of tools provided; resizing the pages just works - even in my old iPad. I haven't experienced a magazine app that contains videos, links, pics etc that is so easy to navigate without freezing or hanging. The only complaint is that I can't readily see how to remove auditioned mags from my library. Oh, and that's another good thing - we can really audition mags by re-sizing pages so we can actually read them - unlike some other music tech style mags.

Essential. Great mag. I find myself going back to old articles multiple times. The videos are clear and being able to download them is great for long flights

Review from a true reader. I think some have judged this unfairly. Cm are among the greatest innovators in the world! I love it and have for years. I used to buy hard copies but now I love the digital I read on a big iPad Pro and I love it! The videos are great especially being able to watch them kinda in the magazine. Only thing is the downloading of samplesEtc is a bit painful-having to search for words in the magazine to use as the password but it’s a small complaint. All in all very happy

Its good but... It could be great. The CD content can be downloaded so don't give it a miss just because of that. Makes a great companion to the real magazine but possibly not an ideal replacement.

great app. the value for money is ridiculous for the amount of content you get with every mag, i dont know how Future makes a profit. well laid out, easy to read and very good content. my only real gripe is lack of navigation, but you can flick through the pages pretty quickly anyway.

Computer music mag.. I'm not very happy. Since IOS 8,I can buy mag but can't read unless I delete app.,re-download edition everytime I want to refer to something,very frustrating.Computer music special mag.,no problems

Must read. Ive learned so much just following their tutorials and the amount of video content and samples that come with the magazine are well worth the money.

Worth the subscription. Only ding it a star because I would like it to be more flexible, allowing for highlighting and maybe even searching terms throughout your entire back catalogue.

Long time fan.. Used to get the physical copies shipped overseas, but reading them on my iPad and downloading the free content to my computer from the CM Vault is convenient and way cheaper. $3.99/month is a really good deal for the content and overall service you get.

Excellent magazine; great articles, terrific software plug-ins. The hard copy version of this magazine typically runs for around $21 CDN with the cover mount CD (w/. collected software and audio/video tutorial files typically running in at 10+ GB), and at that price for the articles and tutorials and software goodies it is still a bargain. So to have a digital download of the mag freely available from the AppStore for $3.99 the day of issue, with the included multimedia content easily accessible from the Future Media Vault Website, it is steal of a deal! Especially when you consider that you can get every issue going back to 2009 for around $70 CDN then this is an offer too great to refuse! If you are/ are seeking to be an electronic musician, you would be doing yourself a huge favour by investing in and reading Computer Music Magazine! (BTW I still get the hard copy versions once in a while but the digital editions have embedded videos on the page, so the digital versions remain sure winners)!

Best 40$ I've Invested. I'm a composer and am frequently looking for unique sounds and ideas for my works. Computer music never fails to deliver. I'd pay twice the price. They offer the tools AND step by step tutorials on how to use them. I swear to you they did not pay me to write this hahaha take it easy.

Content is good. The interactive content is great and the and the effort put behind bringing the magazine to a new medium is appreciated. The app framework they are using needs a kick in the behind. Random crashes and other issues bring down the good quality of the mag.

Just an ad for a subscription.. Just a teaser, not an app. No functions, just a link to pay too much for info you find on google.

Not as much an update as a downgrade. Gotta love how a magazine I've kept up with for some time has completely ruined the experience for their readers. Now an entire library of issues is rendered worthless because the app refuses to download them. I see them putting a LOT of promo into buying their back catalog. But that is entirely useless if you can't read them...

Does not download new issues. I've always enjoyed the content of this mag, but I feel ripped off by this app. New issues appear in the Newsstand rack, but clicking to open or download just takes you back to the originally purchased issue. So, for your subscription fee, you get to read the same issue over and over; what gives?

Ah... finally.. A fantastic resource for those interested in digital music. Was a print subscriber for years in the USA, and had intermittent deliveries. Now, hopefully, no breaks in my subscription.

Computer Music. Great content, lousy App, paid for and downloaded magazines keep vanishing and will not allow reading. Thinking of abandoning it. I killed the magazine subscription as the credit card purchasing system stopped working for me. I cannot be bothered with waste of time applications.

False advertising?. The app store shows an image of a particular issue of a magazine with the word FREE. Once downloaded you find out that nothing at all is free. This app is just a tool to try to get you to buy their magazine. This is not the way to get me to spend my money.

One of the best magazines on music tools & creation. If your a musician who enjoys recording self or others, or who creates electronic based music... This magazine is in top 5 best musician magazines ever... In my humble opinion of course

Not interactive. Basically a bunch of pics. Not using links or focusing on article. Even PDF are better.

New issues are not downloading. Something is not correct on the Newstand. New issues are not being downloaded. I have a subscription.

Fix please. Some videos won't play if they play there's no audio .... THE VIDEOS ARE THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS MAGAZINE

Worth it. Content is great, sample packs are great, free software is awesome.

Best I've Read!. The content in CM is always great and now they've given us access to the videos and software that comes with the print editions. That just rounds it all up. Great magazine!

Mag is great, app is so so. No book marks. Double tap zooms but doesn't center the page.

Stay Away. Newsstand does not supply issues as you buy them, app seems to be confused and broken. Decent idea, but bugs need to be ironed out.

doesn't work. Not only did it not retrieve my old purchases, it didn't work for new ones as well. There goes $4.99 down the drain. Suggestions: Buy the magazine at your local bookstore or buy their subscription online.

Great magazine. Love reading CM. The content is alway superb. My only request is to see if you can include the videos that come with the hard copy of the magazine in the app.

It's not actually free. It's just an app designed to buy the actual digital copies of the magazine. This is not a free issue.

Back issues????? What did I pay for??. Save your money simply said. Back issues that are not part of subscription I am so disappointed. I tried to cancel 3 times NOT EVEN ONE RESPONSE RECOGNIZING MY COMPLAINTS! If someone is reading this now, plz email me and refund me fully and ill have something good to say about this app.

Ripoff App, bought Year Sub, no refund. i bought a year subscription in July, and by September, they deleted the 2 mags i downloaded, and their App freezes on my Ipad. Both Itunes and Future Publishing will Not Refund you in any way, they just say ' well your one of those cases that it doesnt work, but theres nothing we can do' !!! ..hows that for customer service! Horrific......DO NOT BUY,...RIPOFF

Phenomenal magazine, stellar app. If you make music with a computer, do not hesitate to get a subscription to this publication. The app is fantastic, and the issues are chock full of great info.
